01:26A reading from the Acts of the Apostles
01:31The High Priest intervened with all the supporters from the party of the Sadducees.
01:36Prompted by jealousy, they arrested the apostles and had them put on in the common jail.
01:42But at night, the angel of the Lord opened the prison gates and said as he let them out,
01:49Go and stand in the temple and tell the people all about this new life.
01:55They did as they had been told.
01:58They went into the temple at dawn and began to preach.
02:03When the High Priest arrived, he and his supporters convened the Sanhedrin, which was the full Senate
02:11of Israel, and sent to the jail for them to be brought.
02:15But when the officials arrived at the prison, they found they were not inside.
02:20So they went back and reported, We found the jail securely locked, and the warders on duty
02:27at the gate.
02:28But when we unlocked the door, we found no one inside.
02:33When the captain of the temple and the chief priest heard this news, they wondered what this
02:38could mean.
02:39Then the men arrived with fresh news.
02:41At this very moment, he said, The men you imprisoned are in the temple.
02:46They are standing there, preaching to the people.
02:49The captain went with his men and fetched them.
02:53They were afraid to use force in case the people stormed them.

04:13Jesus said to Nicodemus,
04:15God loved the world so much
04:16that he gave us his only son.
04:19So everyone who believes in him
04:21may not be lost.
04:24But may have eternal life.
04:27For God sent his son into the world
04:30not to condemn the world
04:32but so that through him
04:33the world might be saved.
04:36No one who believes in him
04:38will be condemned.
04:39But whoever refuses to believe
04:41is condemned already
04:42because they have refused to believe
04:45in the name of God's only son.
04:48On these grounds is sentence pronounced
04:51that though the light has come into the world
04:54people have shown
04:56they prefer darkness to the light
04:58because their deeds were evil.
05:02And indeed everyone who does wrong
05:03hates the light and avoids it
05:05for fear their actions should be exposed.
05:09But the one who lives by the truth
05:11comes out into the light
05:13so that may be plainly seen
05:15that what they do is done in God.

05:22Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
05:26The light of Christ is bigger than any darkness
05:29and we are part of that light.
05:31And we need to keep remembering that

05:34as a sign of hope
05:35that the darkness does not overpower us.

05:44this time of hope
05:45calls us to contemplate
05:47the amazing gift that we have
