00:00Take me back to 1973 here. I understand New York was a Mets town. You had the 69 Miracle Mets.
00:05In 73, they lost in the World Series and 7 to the A's.
00:10How much did the boss here attempt to win back the city through the tabloids in the back pages of
00:16the Post?
00:16Well, that was his intention from day one. He realized that what he wanted was for the Yankees to be
00:21in the headlines 365 days a year if possible.
00:24And, you know, he almost got maybe a 90% rating there because he was on the back page in
00:29January as often as he was in September.
00:31And that was his point. His point was to he knew the Yankees were a huge brand that had fallen
00:36on hard times.
00:37But, look, the interlocking NY logo was one of the most famous logos in the entire world.
00:42And even it wasn't 1973, even when it was when the Yankees were the number two team in town.
00:47And, you know, he committed right away. He said two interesting things on the day he was that he bought
00:52the team.
00:52The first one is ironic. He said he was going to be an absentee owner.
00:55And we've laughed about that for 50 years now.
00:57But the second one is he promised that the Yankees would be back in the playoffs in three years.
01:01And they were. And they won the World Series in his fourth year.
01:04And they were back-to-back champions by year five.
01:06So what he set out to do, he was able to do very quickly.
