00:01From its barren beauty to lush landscapes.
00:08The Australian countryside is as beautiful as it is breathtaking.
00:14Many Australians are discovering rural life and making the move.
00:20So I'm on the hunt to help everyday Australians find their perfect country house.
00:31Welcome to Ballarat, a region absolutely infused with history and heritage.
00:38It made its fortune during the gold rush days.
00:40I will come back to where we are right now.
00:43I do have to go and get changed so we can meet today's buyers.
00:47Today could be interesting. This could be a little bit hard on their heart.
00:50They're leaving somewhere they love so they can be closer to their grandchildren.
00:54Let's see if we can find them a country home to fall in love with.
00:57Let's go meet them.
01:05Hello there. Hello, Katrina.
01:08I'm amongst the roses here in Ballarat.
01:11Beautiful.
01:12Thank you for bringing me to Ballarat. I adore this area.
01:16I love the wide streets. I love the heritage homes.
01:19Why are you looking for a home in Ballarat?
01:24Well, we met at a party. Alan offered me the seat that he was sitting on and I politely refused.
01:33And then I had to chase her for another nine months until she finally came around.
01:42So we're currently in Inverlee and our family who has provided us with grandchildren, they've moved to Ballarat.
01:50We want to be near them. So we're happy to say goodbye to the beautiful place that we have.
01:56Yeah.
01:57And move on to the next stage of our lives.
02:00Yeah.
02:01Well, I summed that up pretty well.
02:03Absolutely. Fantastic.
02:06Ballarat is just over an hour's drive northwest of Melbourne and was a booming mining town in the 1850s gold
02:13rush.
02:14These days, Ballarat is popular for its Victorian architecture, beautiful wide streets while still being close to the state's capital.
02:22Now, let's see if we can find our couple's perfect home in this beautiful part of Victoria.
02:29I know that you're moving from an area that I also adore. Is that right that you're currently in Inverlee?
02:35Inverlee.
02:35That's correct.
02:36We filmed there. I love it. Is it going to break your heart leaving there?
02:40Absolutely, we break our heart. Yeah, we love our place. Yeah.
02:44But you're needed as a grandmother and grandfather.
02:48Time is short and we want to be with our family for as long as possible.
02:52Yes.
02:53And when you're a working dad, you miss out a little bit on your children because you're at work all
03:00day.
03:00With the grandchildren, you can experience that. So it's fantastic.
03:07You've got a budget of around 900 grand to 1.3, is that right?
03:14Yeah, 1.3, 1.4 at the stretch.
03:17Nice. Yeah.
03:18Okay then. And what exactly is a must-have for you?
03:22Minimum of three bedrooms.
03:24Got it.
03:24And two living rooms.
03:25An art studio for you.
03:27Yeah.
03:27So you're an artist?
03:28Yes, I am.
03:29Oh, lovely.
03:29Yes.
03:30And you like a home that is move-in ready and you don't mind a little bit of history, a
03:35little bit of character with the home.
03:36Absolutely, yeah.
03:37The high ceilings.
03:37Why is that important to you?
03:39Well, it gives you a sense of space.
03:41Yes.
03:42Having the high ceilings and enjoying the character of the place.
03:47And all of this is working beautifully for our first character field home.
03:51We are right in the heart of town here.
03:53You might hear a little bit of traffic noise.
03:55It is move-in ready.
03:57Would you like to check it out?
03:58Absolutely.
03:59Fantastic.
04:00Look at these roses.
04:01I've got rose envy.
04:02Come on through.
04:16Down a step into the heart of the home.
04:21So when we first came in and saw that living space there with the kitchen, that's ideal.
04:27Yeah, it's got the modern and it's got the historical.
04:30It takes so many boxes.
04:31It's lovely, isn't it?
04:31Oh my gosh.
04:32This all opens up, of course, out to the back.
04:36I can't wait to get out there.
04:38It's beautiful.
04:39I will let you have a look in just a moment, but why don't you just check out the bedrooms
04:43and when you're ready I'll meet you out underneath the vines.
04:47Alright, check it out.
04:48See you soon.
04:57That's a nice big room and ceilings.
05:00Ceiling Heights beautiful.
05:02Yeah.
05:02Oh, an en suite.
05:03Fantastic.
05:04Cute little en suite.
05:05Yeah.
05:06You can view the garden.
05:07Yeah.
05:08From those windows there.
05:10Very well thought out.
05:10Look well appointed.
05:12Yeah.
05:12Everything in there.
05:15Yeah.
05:15Let's go and find Katrina and see what the property value is.
05:34Come and join me amongst the vines.
05:36I'm here with the Boston Ivy.
05:38We've got a grapevine going over the back and this conceals a four bay garage.
05:45You could have a studio in there if you wanted to.
05:47And we've just got the birds out here.
05:49Yes.
05:49Just beautiful.
05:50It was interesting because at the front I was a little bit worried about the hospital traffic
05:55so to speak.
05:56But now that you come out to the back it's just lorikeet central.
06:00Yes.
06:00You can't hear any traffic.
06:01You're right.
06:02I know.
06:03I was worried at the front.
06:04I'm calmed at the back.
06:07It's only just hit the market.
06:09Yeah.
06:09So what do you think it's for sale for?
06:13Probably around the 1.25 to 1.3.
06:18Boom.
06:19You're bang on.
06:23Well the price is in our budget.
06:25Yeah.
06:25So that's worth considering.
06:27Yeah.
06:28Give it a lot of thought.
06:28Give it a lot of thought.
06:29Yeah.
06:32Would you like to follow down this back way and I'll take you to house number two?
06:36Sure.
06:36Oh I love it.
06:36Come on through.
06:48I'm with Laurendana and Alan who are looking to move to Ballarat to be closer to their grandchildren.
06:53Now we've toured one home so far which is still in the running.
06:57But it's time now to show them something a little bit different.
07:00Come on through to house number two.
07:03This home is over a hundred years old.
07:06I think the way it's been renovated is really schmick.
07:09I really like the way they've done it.
07:11We've got this beautiful light coming on through.
07:14What do you think of this area, this street?
07:16Is it kind of in the vicinity of where you'd like to be?
07:19Yes.
07:19It's a pretty little street.
07:20Yeah.
07:20It's lovely homes.
07:22I will say this property is probably the smallest of the three that I'll show you so
07:27I'm not quite sure how you feel about that.
07:29I know that you're leaving a few acres from Inverley and I know that you love your garden.
07:34There is a little bit of a garden, easy out the front, equally out the back.
07:39May I show you inside the house?
07:41Absolutely.
07:42Yes, please.
07:42Go on through.
07:54Look at these massive floor to ceiling windows going right across the back.
07:59It's a bit of a gamble to have the dark floors.
08:03A lot of people love trading off the original timber floors.
08:06What do you think?
08:07Is it your kind of style?
08:08Not really, but they've done it well.
08:10How would you describe your style?
08:12Probably more period.
08:13Okay.
08:13More period style.
08:15But I do love the very large glass doors and windows.
08:20It brings the outside straight in.
08:21Yeah.
08:22Absolutely.
08:23And it's so compact and warm.
08:26We've got fireplaces throughout the house.
08:28I think that's a big plus is the two separate living spaces.
08:32We really want that, don't we?
08:34Yes.
08:34And it's a good sized room, the front room.
08:36Yeah, it is.
08:36The wish list.
08:37How does the size of this house work for you?
08:41The dining area is an issue for us.
08:44It's too small for our family.
08:45So we'd have to think about extending perhaps.
08:51Check out the ensuite that's off the main bedroom.
08:53And I'll meet you outside by the veggie patch in the garden.
08:56Great.
08:56Okay.
08:56It's small, but it's cute.
08:58It's doable.
08:58Okay, let's go.
08:59I'll see you soon.
09:07It's a fairly good sized room.
09:09Yeah.
09:10They're nice and bright.
09:11Big windows.
09:12Looking out to the front garden.
09:13It's quite strange.
09:15You haven't got the noise.
09:17Yeah.
09:29I'd say the walking road was tight.
09:32Yeah, there wasn't much room in there.
09:35That looked a bit limiting.
10:01Come and join me out the back.
10:03Walking down the hallway like it's your own runway.
10:07I have to say Alan, you are the most stylish man I think that has ever been on Find My
10:12Country
10:13Home.
10:13Where did you find this jacket by the way?
10:15I love it.
10:17Tasmania.
10:17Tasmania.
10:18One of our trips.
10:19Really?
10:19There you go.
10:22There's a fire pit.
10:23It's a beautiful little sun cat.
10:25And it's private again too.
10:26You don't feel like you're on top of your neighbours.
10:32It's got everything on the wish list, but it is a little on the small side.
10:35What do you think it's on the market for?
10:401,050,000.
10:42Okay.
10:42It's 1.1 to 1.2, but I will look into a discount if you give me your jacket.
10:56We're going to show you one more house and I think you will love it as well.
11:00A little bit bigger.
11:01Okay.
11:01Let's go check it out.
11:02Back through that big white hallway.
11:03You can lead the way.
11:23Well, let me tell you about house number three.
11:27This one is a double brick federation home.
11:29Over a hundred years old.
11:31Little bit of an extension out the back.
11:34Glorious sunshine coming in all around us.
11:38What do you think of this space?
11:40This is really nice, isn't it?
11:42It's just quiet.
11:43You've got privacy all around you.
11:48There is a cat.
11:49Hello.
11:51I will find out the name by the time I show you the rest of this house, but he could
11:56be making an appearance.
11:58So let me take you inside and I want you to keep your mind open as to where artist spaces
12:03could be because we've got loads of bedrooms.
12:05Come on through.
12:06Okay.
12:26Come to the heart of the home.
12:28Wow.
12:28You can see from the walls there and the little stained glass window, this is a mini extension.
12:37I really like that back area of the kitchen, that whole aspect of the backyard.
12:42Yeah.
12:42But it had a lovely feel with all those windows.
12:45Yeah.
12:45You felt as though you had plenty of room to move.
12:48It felt warm.
12:49Yeah.
12:49Being in there.
12:50Yeah.
12:52You could open this up more as French doors if you wanted to, just walk straight out.
12:57Just this really lovely feel in here.
12:59I'd be saying, can I keep that and can I keep that?
13:03It's just really quirky.
13:05Yeah, very quirky.
13:06Yeah.
13:06Not something that I would normally say is me, is my style, but I like it.
13:11There's something of that I really like.
13:12I think it has a really lovely feel to it.
13:15Now, to have a first little wander, I would actually like you to have a look upstairs.
13:21It's currently used as a playroom for the children who live here.
13:26But you may want to use it as an artist studio or keep it as a playroom.
13:31How about you take a look and when you're ready, I will meet you along the side.
13:34Apparently it's a nice little rose garden down by the side.
13:37Okay.
13:38So take a little look and I'll see you soon.
13:47It's a lovely space, isn't it?
13:49Yeah.
13:50This could be for the girls or...
13:51Girls would love it.
13:52Yeah.
13:53Well, I could have my studio here with lots of light coming.
13:56That's what you need.
13:57Through here.
13:58It's really different, isn't it?
14:00It's not what I expected.
14:02No.
14:02It's from the front.
14:03You've got another room over there.
14:04Over on the other side, there's a bedroom too.
14:06So that's more space as well.
14:08It's got a lot of positives about it.
14:30Come and join me in the garden.
14:35What do you think of this space out here?
14:39A lot of scope with the garden, wasn't there?
14:41Yeah, a lot of potential to do a lot of things.
14:43Yeah, little nooks that you could have sitting areas or areas for a veggie patch.
14:51This is yet to hit the market.
14:53So, you know, they're still sort of pottering a little bit.
14:57Yeah.
14:57But also, the price, I think, is pretty darn good considering they haven't tested interest.
15:02So what do you think they are considering?
15:05Probably 900 to 960, 70.
15:11It's just over.
15:12It's 1.1.
15:141.1.
15:14It's 1.1.
15:16As I mentioned, it hasn't hit the market.
15:18So everything is up for negotiation.
15:22It's within our budget.
15:23Yes, it is.
15:24OK.
15:24So we've got some money that we could make some changes.
15:28Yeah.
15:28Opening up those glass windows into doors.
15:31Yeah.
15:31French doors, maybe.
15:32Why don't you have a think about the three homes that we've seen?
15:35And then let's catch up when you're ready and you can let me know what you'd like to do.
15:55While Lauren, Donna and Alan think through their options, I took a moment to have a chat
16:00with Alyssa from Ivory Pavilion to learn about what life is like as a Ballarat small business owner.
16:06I do have to say, Alyssa, I wore an ivory dress for you.
16:11I know you're in theme.
16:13Well, I tried.
16:13I really did try.
16:14But I didn't know how bang on I was going to be until I actually arrived.
16:18Yeah.
16:18And obviously, Ivory in Black is the go.
16:21Yes.
16:22How did you come up with the name and the concept?
16:23Well, Ivory was obvious because we've got such a white space.
16:27But the word building wasn't going to cut it for a wedding venue or an event space.
16:31So I started Googling and I was like, what other word explains building?
16:35And then I found pavilion.
16:36And I was like, that sounds really luxe and really beautiful.
16:39So I went with that.
16:40And it is a beautiful pavilion.
16:42Did it always look like this?
16:43No, it actually didn't.
16:45When we first walked in, it was a very different space.
16:47So we actually had purple carpet.
16:49Lovely.
16:50Terracotta walls.
16:51Beautiful.
16:51We had pink beams, but I could see the potential.
16:55I had a real eye for what I wanted our venue to be.
16:58But I could never imagine it would be on a golf course and that we would have all this lush
17:01greenery around us.
17:06I know that Ballarat has such a successful history.
17:11I love that they embrace their heritage, but it's very forward thinking as well.
17:18And there's a lot of people moving here now.
17:20Why is that?
17:21Yeah, I mean, I think it's just up and coming.
17:24It's growing all the time.
17:25People just want to be here.
17:26They want that sort of serene country life, but they've also got a bit of bustle and a bit of
17:31vibe as well.
17:31So you get the best of both worlds.
17:37Hello, Iggy.
17:38Hi there.
17:39Trina.
17:39Thanks for turning on the weather.
17:43This is a real life change for you, isn't it?
17:46Yes, it is.
17:47It is.
17:48Big change.
17:49Yes.
17:50And our family that has given us the grandchildren and we don't want to miss that.
17:56You know, I grew up with my grandmother.
18:00My grandmother was my best friend and my parents kept having children and they moved in with my grandmother.
18:09We had the most beautiful relationship, exactly what you said.
18:14It wasn't the big events.
18:16It wasn't the family barbecues.
18:18It was the tiny quiet moments that you really do treasure.
18:23So I'm in awe that you're making that big decision and I'm really tender to the fact that it's a
18:29big deal for you.
18:30It is.
18:30This was going to be a challenge and we just wanted to have a sticky beak.
18:34Probably my favourite is number one.
18:37Really?
18:38The first one.
18:39Yes.
18:40Yeah, there were lots of positives about that.
18:42It was beautifully kept, beautifully renovated, landscaped beautifully.
18:46You'd never have known that from the front either, would you?
18:49It's such a bustle out the front.
18:50That's right.
18:51That's right.
18:51That busy street near the hospital.
18:53But, you know, the parking situation is a concern.
18:57That was the one handbrake.
18:59Yeah, that was the one thing.
19:02And I know that the second one you thought maybe that was a little bit too small.
19:07Yes.
19:07Yes.
19:08So there would have to be a fair bit of work with renovating if we were to add a room
19:12to the back.
19:13The walk-in row was very small.
19:15I could fit my shoes in there, but...
19:17That's not, that's just, that's not going to fly.
19:19No.
19:21What about house number three?
19:22That was the Red Brick Federation.
19:24Really interesting.
19:25Really interesting little place.
19:27Yeah.
19:28And...
19:29Had a lot.
19:30Yeah, go on.
19:30A lot of options.
19:31To take all the furniture out, then you can have a really good look at it and then work from
19:35there, I think.
19:36It definitely had a style to it.
19:38Once their furniture is gone, then you could really style it up and see, can my personality adapt to this?
19:43It had a few options.
19:44There's a bit of land there.
19:46Yeah.
19:48What do you think you'll do?
19:50Well, we sort of thought, well, we might venture back to number three to have another look.
19:56Okay, great.
19:57Go from there.
19:58Absolutely.
19:58Yeah.
19:59That's all you can do.
20:00And I just wish you all the very best for your future.
20:02And I really think you're doing the right thing.
20:03Make the most of every moment and opportunity.
20:06I appreciate that.
20:07So thank you for spending the day with us.
20:09Good luck.
20:10Let us know what happens, okay?
20:11Thank you very much.
20:14After checking in with our couple, the latest news is that they're actually still on the hunt for their perfect
20:20Ballarat home.
20:20We wish you all the very best of luck as you continue your journey in Ballarat.
20:25We'll see you next time.
20:27You are welcome.
20:29Bye.
20:30Bye.
20:30Bye.
20:32Bye.
