01:51So, you know, somewhere nice just to be, I suppose, while we work out what we're doing next.
01:58We had bought and sold a couple of homes.
02:02We'd moved to Melbourne for work and moved back to Warrnambool.
02:05And then Adam likes to make spare of the moment choices and decisions.

02:12Yeah, threw out the idea and it just happened to stick with me at the time.
02:17We left to travel in the caravan.
02:20We'd never travelled in a caravan before.
02:23We just took off.

02:32After travelling a bit of Australia, I think we've realised how good Warrnambool is.
02:37You've got beautiful beaches.
02:39You've got family nearby.
02:40You've got all facilities.
02:41Home is where the heart is.
02:42Yeah.
02:43As much as I didn't like to used to think that was true,
02:45but being away for so long and then coming back, it makes you realise home is where the heart is.

02:52On the rugged south-west coast of Victoria, Warrnambool is a coastal gem round about three hours from Melbourne.
03:00It's the western gateway to the Great Ocean Road, where rolling hills meet the Southern Ocean.
03:06And as the town steadily expands, welcoming new families and businesses, it's only growing stronger while still holding onto the
03:13charm that makes it so special.
03:15I know Jarrah and Adam cannot wait to find a new home right where it all began for them.
03:22We're going to throw the term forever home out because life isn't really about that anymore, is it?

03:31It almost takes the pressure off thinking that it's not going to be forever so it doesn't have to fit

04:05This used to be the first display home for this area.
04:09So we're walking into a space that is top notch.

08:23used to the size and the price may not be quite what they bargained for so next

08:41will title as a lifestyle property feel funny actually telling people who are
08:45from you know that we're in walking distance to everything here so I don't
08:49know how would you describe this area this is like an ideal spot in town I
08:54suppose yeah where we are like you can't beat it like we're currently living
08:59with Jarrah's grandparents and they're pretty central we love it there it's
09:03being able to walk down to the beach be beautiful or into town it's just great

09:21so as you come in here what do you think of this space I'm a sucker for floorboards
09:26yeah your eyes go straight to that yes and then I can always work with that so
09:30so a lot smaller uh in this one but nice and cozy and less space to make mess it was

09:39overwhelming I think it makes a home feel nice when it's cozy and snug what would
09:44you alter do you look around or you like actually it's kind of moving ready it
09:47definitely it's definitely livable it's better than what we've lived in
09:51previously I'd start with the bathroom why is the bathroom important to you what
09:56would you do I really like a bathroom to feel nice and clean and crisp and
10:01everything so it'd be nice to freshen it up a bit do you need a bath I think long
10:06term it's nice to just have it but it also takes up a lot of space yeah here's
10:11a little bucket or something that's what we did on the road for a year and a half
10:14yeah well get ye to the main bedroom and when you're ready I'll meet you
10:19outside and I'll see what the garden's like no worries great see you soon yeah
10:31all right thoughts look it's um different compared to the other one so you gotta kind of
10:38separate that out of your head it's small but I don't mind small all this bed fits okay you're
10:44not trying to squeeze in behind there to get past it needs a little bit of love but we could

10:49and be fine yeah I think the location adds a lot to the value so a little bit I mean

11:13well come on out I think they've added the deck and I think they must have subdivided in the past
11:19because the other blocks appear a little bit bigger underneath the house there is a separate living
11:24quarter down there there's a bathroom another bedroom you could maybe have your gym down there
11:29or your office yeah that's nice to have it a bit separate from the house that's nice I really liked
11:36that decking area how closed in it was especially when it gets into winter to have that more sheltered
11:43space so you can still be outside that's a real plus good little entertaining area we know we love
11:48the area and we know that we're sacrificing the land size because we are so central what do you think
11:54it's on the market for well given where it is it would have to be at least eight I'd say

12:00is always a bit higher well it's actually underneath okay at the moment it's around 780
12:07interesting nice to know something to think about yeah yeah lower end of the budget for this one which
12:13is a plus for this location I think compared to some other houses that you see around that price
12:21it's a lot cleaner and fresher you could walk straight in and live there and I think yeah
12:26being in this area is just so nice yeah it kind of outweighs a lot of other things all right

12:53contender for jarrah and adam so for the final property I'm showing them something that it's a
12:59little bit out of the ordinary one that might pick their interest in a whole new way all right then

13:14actually a husband and wife team he's a builder and she's an architect and this was their passion
13:19project how do you feel as you come up this side entrance and you see what is actually considered one
13:26of the best airbnbs in the area I don't think I've ever seen it before like it's quite well hidden

13:52tell an architect has had fun here the massive cathedral windows that light that comes through

16:59I have finished showing Jarrah and Adam all three options each of them quite different from each other and
17:15certainly from life in a caravan so while they take the time to think things over I'm heading to a
17:21place that is a step up in a whole different way one of the region's most remarkable makeovers do I

17:29it an abbey a church what so this convent this convent is in a religious print precinct it is the
17:37most
17:37extraordinary history the building which was built in 1906 was built by a local architect this is really
17:45modeled on more of an Irish convent time between 1840 and 1851 the population just absolutely exploded
17:54here with people from Ireland Scotland wherever and they had large families 10 13 children and so they
18:00needed schools and they needed churches the stone is sandstone from Mount Gambia and Portland and the
18:07stained-glass windows they were actually carted from Melbourne can you imagine a horse and car coming with
18:14these on the back of it it really says everything yeah about the people yeah that had that strength and
18:19courage and conviction yeah to create a space like this here and now cut to today and anyone can stay

18:28it's now a hotel and we get some really really interesting people coming here we get international
18:34tourists we get people who are coming from Melbourne to do the Great Ocean Road across to Adelaide and then
18:39we get local people who want a special night out no two days have been the same no two days
18:44the same and
18:45no two people the same we do have a resident ghost sister Doris who lives under the stairs my
18:52understanding of her is that she came about because we had a lot of little boys and a lot of
18:57little
18:57girls they were all sleeping in the dormitories up here if they started to go out of their rooms at
19:03night
19:04then sister Doris might come up the stairs and and and uh tell them off I'm not quite sure I'll
19:10take that story
19:13it's an amazing place to call home and and you know I think anyone moving into this area there's just
19:18so much
19:18here to offer and of course we're at the end of the Great Ocean Road and the Great Ocean Road
19:23has got to be one of the best places in the world
19:25this is a great place to raise kids and it's a great place to grow old and it's a great
19:29place to be
19:31it's clear to see from this humble convent turned luxury retreat Warrnambool certainly knows how to turn
19:37history into something truly special but for now it is time to hear from Jarrah and Adam about their
19:44future right here in the town that they hold so close well hello hello isn't this gorgeous beautiful yeah I
19:54don't believe that this place is just moments from the homes that you're looking at in the heart of
19:59Warrnambool we've driven past it before but never come in well I'll stop my travel report now and I
20:05should really ask you about the homes that we had a look at the first one they were going to
20:11throw in
20:11all of the furniture to fill the five living spaces yeah I thought that was interesting it's definitely
20:18interesting it was nice to see it too I think it probably was a bit too big for us in
20:22that sense
20:23like so many different spaces whereas we probably prefer one open area and on the corner probably
20:29didn't help that intersection is very busy yes yes so what did you think of house number two
20:37it's nice it definitely obviously falls within the budget a bit nicer does need those few touches
20:43um you would have to work yeah which and I'd have to work after hours sorry sorry you'd have to

20:50yeah exactly it's hard because in comparison it probably doesn't like pop as much as the others
20:57but it's still got its own the opportunity to make it pop good qualities and things like that so

21:13absolutely yeah that took us by surprise it really did it was really unexpected knowing that we could
21:19hold on to it and not necessarily have to sell it or rent it a little bit more flexibility in

21:26it's already sort of set up yeah for an airbnb well that's really exciting so what do you think you'll

21:31in reality is definitely over our budget but if we can see ourselves there then who knows could
