00:00Propaganda. It's a big word.
00:03Yeah, it is. It's propaganda, and I think the implication was we in the media are complicit.
00:09We're partners with the warriors and all the rest of it, and I don't know.
00:15Propaganda is essentially spreading falsehoods and passing them off as facts.
00:22In order to get people to believe you.
00:27It's misleading. It's misleading.
00:29Intentionally misleading, though.
00:30Absolutely. Absolutely.
00:32That's, yeah, I mean, propaganda versus promotion, they're related, but they're not the same.
00:39Propaganda is much more nefarious.
00:41All right, so a couple of things.
00:43An 888-957-9570.
00:47Like, I know that this question will get a lot of you to nod your head,
00:50but I'd love to hear some of you actually call us and talk to us about it.
00:53It sounds to me like, on some level, this is the nicer way to say it,
00:57rather than just being like, bleep pods.
01:01Some of you feel like he's being jammed down your throat.
01:06Okay?
01:07And that's, I want to get into that a little bit.
01:10Because, yeah, so last caller, and actually some of our texters are using the word propaganda.
01:14Now, there were three examples he used.
01:16One of them was Joe Lacob, he said, calling him a future all-star before he had ever played a
01:22game.
01:23Fact check.
01:24He actually called him a future all-star after a full season in which he came in fifth in rookie
01:30of the year voting.
01:32So, is that actually such a jerk thing for Joe Lacob to do?
01:38Again, go to the moment and think about what was true in that moment.
01:45Is that so awful that the owner of the basketball team referred to the man who was fifth in rookie
01:53of the year voting
01:54as a future all-star for the organization?
01:57Is that so awful?
01:59It's not that outlandish when you just look at his draft class, and they all had played one year,
02:05although I don't know if Cade Cunningham played at all, and he was fifth in rookie of the year voting.
02:11So, just on that one year, he was seen by some, maybe it's we propaganda-spewing media who vote on
02:18those awards.
02:18We'll get to us.
02:19He was fifth.
02:21Yeah, he was fifth.
02:21So, his rookie year was good enough to be in that class,
02:24so it's not that outrageous to think that he might be a future all-star.
02:29And by the way, future all-star doesn't mean perennial all-star.
02:32No.
02:33He might catch an all-star game.
02:35Elliot Ramos made the all-star team.
02:36Right.
02:37How are we doing?
02:38I mean, we've had a lot of those in all kinds of different sports.
02:41Camilla Duvall made the all-star team.
02:54Which is actually not run by the people who make decisions about who gets into the game,
03:02and, you know, like Mike Dunleavy is not laying things out at the team store.
03:07Is that so bad?
03:08Like, he took offense to the fact that Pods' jersey was next to Curry and Draymond.
03:15Yeah.
03:16And I, like, I...
03:16Don't belong in that rack.
03:17Well, I get the sentiment, but are you suggesting that there should be basically a kiddie room
03:24at the team store where you put the jerseys of the people who only average 11 points a game
03:31as opposed to those who, well, Draymond also averaged...
03:34You get what I'm saying.
03:35Like the kid's table.
03:36Right.
03:37Like, that...
03:38My brain has never even thought of that.
03:41It's an interesting thought.
03:43But, like, if I walked into the...
03:45I'm going tonight.
03:45If I go to the team store tonight, and right next to Draymond's jersey is Guy Santos's
03:51because he also signed a contract, am I supposed to be offended?
03:56Am I taking from that that the organization is jamming Guy Santos down my throat?
04:04I don't...
04:05I've never even thought of that.
04:06I wouldn't take it that way, but I've never run a retail shop, but I've been in a bunch of
04:10them,
04:10and I know this, they are going to prominently display the items that sell really well,
04:17and they're going to put certain things out.
04:19Like, if you want to go to the team store today and do an inventory on just jerseys
04:24and count up which player has the most jerseys for sale,
04:28Steph will have probably 60% of all jerseys available because it's the number one seller.
04:34Hello.
04:35And if Pod's jerseys are selling really well, they're going to put them in a spot
04:39where people are going to be able to buy them.
04:41And I would imagine you can't get a Dennis Schroeder right now.
04:46So...
04:47Well, how many jerseys on the Warriors can you even sell?
04:51Everybody's got one year left on their deal.
04:53Like, right now...
04:54You can get a Gi.
04:54You can get a Gi.
04:55You can get a Moody.
04:56You can get a Moody.
04:57You can get a Will Richard.
04:58Yep.
04:59You...
04:59I mean, I guess...
05:01Can we still sell Steph Couragers?
05:03Is Raymond for sure.
05:04Okay.
05:05I mean, they have a year left, but...
05:06I don't know if it's too late in the contract or whatever.
05:08No, I mean, you're still going to have Will Richard and all the other guys who are going to be
05:11here,
05:11and even, like, Jimmy Butler.
05:13You can probably still get a Jimmy Butler.
05:15I mean, I don't know what year it was that this gentleman went to the team store,
05:18but it's like, okay, so two years ago, he's your first-round draft pick.
05:22He comes fifth in Rookie of the Year.
05:25The team store is supposed to not have the jersey?
05:28I actually think that that is kind of offensive.
05:31If I were Pods, I'd be like, I'm out here like, who was my man, the Cardinals quarterback, for a
05:38second?
05:38Was that Josh...
05:40Josh Dobbs.
05:41Josh Rosen.
05:41No, Josh Dobbs.
05:42Oh, he was too.
05:43Remember when he went to the Cardinals, and he got named the starter, and then he had to go to
05:47the team store,
05:48and they did not have his jersey, and he had to type his name into that little iPad,
05:53and they're just like, yeah, we don't have this.
05:55He's like, I'm the starting quarterback for this football team.
05:57I don't have a jersey in here.
05:59How would you feel if you were the first-round draft pick, and you come in fifth in Rookie of
06:04the Year,
06:04I don't get a jersey in the team store?
06:07It's not even an option?
06:08The caller wasn't saying, you don't get a jersey, but certainly, you can't have that jersey rubbing shoulders with the
06:14Steph Curry jersey.
06:15We're going to go put it next to the onesies.
06:16We're going to go put it next to the Dennis Schroeder 60% off rack, and the Patty Spencers that,
06:23man, we had those in the front of the store for about a week, and then those got shuttled into
06:28the corner,
06:28and I bet you can probably get a Porzingis now, even though he won't be here necessarily for that long.
06:34I don't know if that's coming, in the world of product, that's coming together really quick.
06:40You get it in February, and you know he's a free agent.
06:43Are you investing, if you're the Warrior team store in the marketing department, are we investing in Porzingis jerseys?
06:49You are.
06:49I don't think you're going to invest heavily.
06:51You're not going to get 10,000 of them in, but there are certain people who, and we know one
06:56very well,
06:56Dr. Nirav Pandya, he likes to collect jerseys.
06:59His thing is jersey in the cart, and so...
07:01Jersey in the cart, I don't think means that he actually walks to the team store with a cart.
07:05No.
07:06I think he's online.
07:07Correct.
07:07I think he's on, like, Fanatics.
07:09The idea is some people like to have a variety of jerseys.
07:14Your homework tonight is count the pods.
07:17I want you to just keep...
07:19At the game?
07:19Yes.
07:19Okay.
07:20Not if you don't want me to go to the team store.
07:22If you want.
07:23I'd rather not.
07:24If there's a pod...
07:25Yes.
07:26I want you to pretend that the Steph jersey has a restraining order on the pods jersey.
07:31You got to make sure that thing's at least 50 feet away from the Steph jersey.
07:35Your real homework, though, is just count how many pods jerseys you see on people.
07:40Okay.
07:42And I want adults only, because if a kid has a jersey and it's a pods and he's 11...
07:46Adults only?
07:47Yes, because...
07:48If it's a kid, some adult bought it.
07:50Right.
07:51And if he put the kid in it at the game, that's child abuse.
07:55I don't want CPS involved.
07:58Sir?
07:59Is that your child in a pods jersey?
08:00Yeah.
08:01Yeah.
08:01What's wrong?
08:02Sir?
08:03I don't know if you listen to the echo chamber, but it's considered misdemeanor child abuse.
08:09Put your kid in a pods.
08:10You're coming with me.
08:11You get a call from the teacher.
08:13Yeah.
08:14We just wanted to check in.
08:16Everything's fine.
08:16A well check.
08:17Everything's fine.
08:17But we noticed that you sent little Billy to school today in a pods jersey, and we just
08:27wanted to just bring it up and let you know that there are some dynamics here at the school
08:34that you want to make sure that we're being very careful with our wardrobes.
08:38Yeah.
08:38I get it.
08:39All right.
08:40I just want you to...
08:41I'll look around.
08:41I'm not asking you to do an accurate count, but just have eyes.
08:44I'm usually not, you know, paying attention, but I'll try.
08:47I'll try to pay attention.
08:48Just as you're looking around, if you happen to see one, you know, I'm just curious what
08:53the numbers are.
08:54And that, to me, is reflective of this whole echo chamber.
08:57Okay.
08:58The last one that our most recent caller, and we're going to go back to the phone.
09:01So if you want to get...
09:02If there's something you want to say, get it off your chest.
09:05Or what is your experience, again, out in the real world with the Pajemski situation?
09:12What do people actually say?
09:15Not on Twitter, not on Instagram, not on TikTok.
09:19Okay.
09:20But the last thing he said, and this is where I do feel like he was at least loosely talking
09:28to our world, and I get this one a lot.
09:33I know that I make some of you feel this way, so I thought this was an opportunity to address
09:38it.
09:38You don't like it when media members tell you how to think.
09:45And my response to that is, what the hell is any opinion about anything?
09:53You don't have to listen to it, you don't have to do it, but you damn well better believe
09:59I and others around here are going to share exactly what we think and what we think of what
10:06we see you do, the same way you let us know what you think about what we do.
10:12So if I see you booing Brandon Pajemski, a homegrown, play every game, hardworking,
10:20getting better every year, imperfect player, if I see you or I hear you boo him, I'm going
10:28to tell you you're wrong.
10:29And if that resonates to you as I'm telling you how to feel, then go ahead and label it
10:37that.
10:38But I think I'm actually telling you how I feel.
10:40Well, the important context is you're booing him in a Giants game.
10:43If you want to boo him in a Warrior game, and the caller made a good point about, you know,
10:47hard-earned money, and you spend it for tickets, and they sell you food, and you spend it for
10:52that, and beverages, and all the rest, and I'm not saying you don't have the right to
10:56boo a guy at a Giants game who happens to not be a Giant.
10:59You can do that.
11:00It is not outside of fan behavior rules and regulations.
11:04I just think that it's a little bit odd and undeserved.
11:08Completely.
11:08No, it's not against the rules.
11:10You're allowed to.
11:11Guess what?
11:11If there's three four-year-olds in a big family sitting right behind you, and you want to
11:17stand up and completely cuss out the umpire with every awful word in the book, with saliva
11:23flying out of both sides of your mouth and mustard all over your shirt, it's allowed.
11:27That actually is not.
11:29No, but you're not going to.
11:31I mean, it happens, but that actually is probably not allowed, but.
11:36I've seen it all the time.
11:37Oh, of course.
11:38Yes, and your point is well taken.
11:40And I'm going to sit here and think that you're off.
11:43You got a problem.
11:45And now you can text 57384 and somebody comes over.
11:49So, like, just with the whole, like, this fan base doesn't want to be told how to think,
11:56that doesn't exist.
11:58You're sharing an opinion.
12:00We're sharing an opinion.
12:01The Warriors are sharing an opinion.
12:03By the way, stop telling the Warriors that they're not a business.
12:06That's how I sort of react to that call.
12:09Wait a minute.
12:10You're offended that the Warriors are, A, promoting their own players, B, putting their
12:15players' jerseys in their team store, and C, telling you that a player that was drafted
12:23number 19 overall and would be redrafted in the top eight, and they're telling you he's
12:28good, and his points per game have gone up every single year, and they're telling you
12:34he's good, and you're like, this is propaganda.
12:36It's actually, by definition, not propaganda.
12:39If they're telling you that he's a superstar, okay, but I don't hear that.
12:45I actually don't hear anybody tell you with words that Pods is a star.
12:52I've never heard anyone say that.
12:54I just listen to what Steve Kerr says on this show and after games, and of late, it's been
12:59he's a great secondary initiator, and when he has to step up into that other role, he
13:04has a lot of things that he still is trying to work on, and we have this famous soundbite
13:09where he cannot be that guy.
13:10He's talking about Pods, so as much as you want to hear-
13:14He cannot be that guy.
13:15I love that.
13:16He's talking about Brandon Pajemski, but then the propaganda people will say, oh, all
13:22of the praise, and I'm looking at the three-man combos right now, the best three-man combos
13:26for the Warriors, Pods is in the first one, Pods is in the second one, Pods is in the third
13:32one, and it's him.
13:34When he's with a lot of other players, they tend to score more points than the other team,
13:39and so if you want to call that propaganda, you can, but it's a stat.
13:44It's funny, that Steve Kerr sound clip, what people don't know is that-
13:49That's a stat.
13:50Well, the reporter, the reporter actually was getting really upset and said to Steve,
13:57we here in this room are done with the propaganda, and we believe that Brandon Pajemski should
14:02be a benchwarmer.
14:03We do not believe he should play, and that's when Steve was like-
14:07He cannot be that guy.
14:09So-
14:09There you go.
14:10Yeah, you're all right.
14:11Let me tell you something, this guy is a ball player.
14:14You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station
14:19in the home of the Golden State Warriors and Valkyries, always live on the free Odyssey app.
14:22Coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
14:29Oh, there are all caps texts coming in.
14:32Ooh, people are liars.
14:39I mean, can you read them?
14:40Well, I'm just kind of, let's see.
14:46Let's see.
14:46925 and Mark, get ready for a big F you as a response.
14:52Let's see.
14:53I have to make sure.
14:54This is a multi-text text.
14:55So I have to get it in the writer order.
14:58925.
15:00Like, see, really?
15:01Do you want me to read this?
15:02I don't know what's going on over there.
15:03Kerr is a liar.
15:05Pods does not contribute.
15:07This is all caps.
15:08Does not contribute to winning.
15:09What have we won since he came?
15:13Of course he gets better.
15:16Little as it may be.
15:18He can do no wrong.
15:20He gets consistent mins.
15:22Ah, that's the one.
15:23Plays with mostly Steph.
15:26Duh.
15:27He looked like he producing.
15:29Where was this fight for JK and Moody?
15:32L-M-A-O-O-O-O-O.
15:34Y'all kill me.
15:36How does Pods have almost more minutes than JK and Moody two years after they started?
15:43And this is, honestly.
15:45I shouldn't have read that.
15:46No, that is.
15:47I know, but that's so.
15:48But that's what the essence of.
15:49But it's so played out.
15:50No, it's not.
15:51It is.
15:52Because that's what people believe.
15:53And that's why I was saying before, if you want to look at the people who are passionate
15:57about not liking Pods, it's Kaminga, it's Moody, they get screwed, Pods gets to play through
16:04mistakes.
16:05But that's not Pods.
16:06But that's, it's not the point.
16:08It is the point.
16:09No, the point is, this is what people are feeling.
16:12But you booed someone that didn't do that.
16:15It's, it's resentment towards Steve Kerr because Steve Kerr gives Pods a pass.
16:21I'm sorry.
16:22And he doesn't give Kaminga the leash.
16:24I'm sorry.
16:25I'm just telling you that that is what the prevailing notion is of the people who don't
16:29like Pods.
16:30Then you, sir, all caps, man, if that's what you believe.
16:33Or lady.
16:33And you boo.
16:34I know that's a dude.
16:36And you go to the Giants game and boo Pods.
16:40That's no different than your wife makes you mad and you go take it out on the kids.
16:44That's, that's exactly what you're doing.
16:48Exact.
16:50Sometimes you don't want to confront the wife.
16:52Well.
16:53So go to your room.
16:54So that's all.
16:55Little Timmy.
16:57That's all.
16:58I mean, 888-957-957.
17:02Four man combinations.
17:04Pods is in the first, third, fourth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh.
17:10Like, yeah, he's in the combos that actually have a better plus minus than a lot of other
17:16players.
17:17But again, I don't, I don't want to do the, that rabbit hole because I know that's what
17:21I know.
17:22We know that what you just said, you're right.
17:25That's how a lot of people feel.
17:26But though I know because that is the very loud social media text board, YouTube sports
17:35radio thing.
17:36And I don't think that our job is full real life.
17:40We are not a great place to get a random sample of the world's opinion.
17:45We're not because the people who are inspired to call us and inspired to text us and inspired
17:51to watch on YouTube every single day, all day long, those people, we love the living
17:58daylights out of you, but you skew a certain way.
18:03You're not inspired to call to be like, you know what?
18:06Pods has been kind of nice lately.
18:09It's like, you know, he's inconsistent, but the last five, six, seven games, pretty good.
18:14That's my parents.
18:15That's what they said last night after the Pazimski question.
18:19I don't know because he's playing pretty well.
18:21I like him, Mark.
18:23How come everybody hates him?
18:25Well, because like we're not getting the full, and I always try, I try for that.
18:33So it's sort of an invitation for people who don't usually reach out to a radio show to
18:38reach out because maybe you do feel that way too, but maybe you don't.
18:43Well, let's get the tone in the water.
18:44We got a decent sample up here on the big board.
18:46I can only see the comments, but looks like we got some mild, we've got some medium, and
18:51we got some spicy.
18:52Pick a flavor.
18:55Well, let's start with Austin in San Jose.
18:57Why not come out hot?
18:59Let's do it.
18:59You know what I'm saying?
19:00Austin, thank you for calling.
19:01What's up?
19:02What's up, fellas?
19:03Always love to.
19:04Listen, Willard, you're talking about, you act like this stuff's rational.
19:08The fandom is not rational.
19:09You know that.
19:10It's irrational, right?
19:11So whether someone's being booed or someone's being booed at the arena, at someone else's
19:16arena, it doesn't really matter.
19:18It's irrational.
19:19And you were talking about stats and dibs.
19:22I think it'd be a better show if you didn't agree with Willard so much.
19:25But that's a different discussion.
19:27But seriously, I mean, you guys, you guys, and dibs, dibs used to be that guy, too.
19:33I don't know what's going on with dibs, but he used to be that guy.
19:36So, but seriously, I mean, you guys live in the penthouse of sports.
19:40We're not those guys.
19:41Fans don't get to live like you guys.
19:43I mean, as Fitz would say, that's your family.
19:45You love those people.
19:46You love Pods and those guys.
19:48We don't love them.
19:49We just watch them play.
19:51Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
19:52Austin, Austin, Pods is our family?
19:54Like, he comes on the air with us sometimes.
19:57I don't know Pods.
19:59And I've got absolutely no skin in this game.
20:03And if you feel like dibs agrees too much, it's because he actually agrees with what I'm saying.
20:09Yeah, I agree with you, too, Austin.
20:10I agree too much.
20:12No, like, for real, it's authentic, man.
20:15That's, like, I'd love to take that opportunity to squash that.
20:20Nobody's paying us to say this.
20:22Steve Kerr is coming on the show every week, no matter what the hell we say, provided that we are
20:28fair.
20:29Like, that's it.
20:31There's no – this is not our family.
20:33This is how we see this one, Austin.
20:37Well, okay, so let's go back to the booing thing.
20:40I think that, yeah, what I agree, what I think, when I go to the arena and if Pods popped
20:45up on the screen, would I boo him?
20:46No, but I do know that the people – when he's at the game, he's a representative of the Warriors,
20:52whether he's – whether you like it or not.
20:53He's a celebrity in the context of his job with the Warriors.
20:56So when his face flashes on the scoreboard, people are going to react one way or the other.
21:02And maybe it should be all cheering.
21:04But in the case of Pods, maybe there's enough toxicity, right or wrong, around this gentleman that people are just
21:11reacting.
21:11And I'm not saying it's right.
21:13I'm just saying that's just being real, man.
21:16And I think I'm a little bit surprised that the media – and to go back to the media, I
21:20think the previous caller was saying it kind of feels like sometimes we're being force-fed pods.
21:26And whether that's true or not, it feels that way, Willard.
21:30And I think that's what people are sort of objecting to.
21:33Let us come to the conclusion about the athletes we like or don't like.
21:37And it's mostly irrational.
21:38You guys know that the Warriors fans have liked athletes that weren't even as good maybe as Pods.
21:44But it had nothing to do with their stats.
21:45It had more to do with the intangibles around the athlete.
21:49You guys know that.
21:50It's not just that.
21:51We do.
21:52But, Austin, allow me to respond.
21:53And thank you.
21:54Thank you always for calling and listening, Austin.
21:56Let us respond to that.
21:58So two things.
21:59First of all, if you're going to sit there and admit that it's not rational,
22:04it almost sounds to me like you're asking us to just sit here and listen to and view irrationality and
22:12not comment on it.
22:14And that's not our job.
22:15So we are going to comment on it.
22:17And if I find it to be irrational and if I find it to be rude or if I find
22:22it to be what I think is an incorrect opinion, we're going to say so.
22:25And if that feels like something's getting forced down your throat, then, you know, sorry, that's just kind of a
22:32that's what happens in this situation.
22:35But what I'd also love to point out is I wonder if the fans that Austin is talking about, if
22:41you realize that you're complicit in this, like it very much is chicken and the egg.
22:48Why do you feel like the media is forcing pods down your throat?
22:52We don't get anything for that.
22:53So I'd argue that right now, many of you are the ones who have turned pods into a sympathetic figure.
22:58Because it's a topic.
22:59Because you're coming after him for no flipping good reason.
23:03Because you're booing him in the Giants game.
23:04And that is so unusual that it becomes a part of the tableau now.
