00:00The great Mark Grandy has pulled six phone calls to this radio station from yesterday.
00:06Why?
00:06Because I want everybody to hear what a fan base sounds like after a loss,
00:13and then what happens after one win.
00:19One win, one day later.
00:22How do you feel differently after one win
00:27versus the way many of us sounded yesterday,
00:30which was, okay, once again, old, slow, poorly constructed.
00:39Disinterested.
00:40Disinterested, not committed to winning.
00:43Why don't y'all just sit with the fact that the Warriors are not good anymore.
00:48Every time they lose a couple games in a row, someone calls and wants to trade Steph Curry.
00:52And then he scores 46 points, and they hand the Spurs their first home loss of the year.
00:59And now we're going to be championship, and back and forth and back and forth.
01:04Right.
01:04The rigors of an NBA season.
01:07But look, there's stuff to get into about last night, and it has a trickle-down effect.
01:12It's another thing that we will address with Steve at 3 o'clock.
01:15Bottom line, Steph doesn't get to do in the second half what he did
01:19if Moses Moody doesn't do what he did in the first half.
01:22Bottom line.
01:22Yeah, kept him in.
01:23Moses Moody has become the most important piece off the bench,
01:29and I guess we should probably update that because he didn't come off the bench last night,
01:33and I think for a while now going forward, he's not going to come off of the bench.
01:38And so that's probably, at least for right now, that's the way that needs to be
01:44because Moses Moody has been the most consistent player on the Warriors,
01:50not named the guys that we obviously kind of put over in a different category.
01:55Yeah, and that was his second start, and they're 1-1 in those starts.
01:58The other game he started was against Denver on the road, and they lost.
02:01But last night, you looked at that starting lineup, and they did things that you need that lineup to do,
02:07which is defend and have some spacing, and that's not what you had when you had Kaminga in there.
02:12And all roads lead there, but we're trying not to go down that road
02:16because today it's about basking in a win, and it was a good win.
02:20It was a gutsy win.
02:22You were on the brink of maybe getting blown out again.
02:25Yeah, that felt that way.
02:25And then in that second quarter, you kind of shored things up.
02:28The third quarter, you did what you've done for the entirety of Steph Curry's career,
02:32and he got hot.
02:33And then once they got the lead in the fourth quarter,
02:36it never felt like they were in jeopardy of losing.
02:39But San Antonio did what they did, and then the Warriors closed it out.
02:43Well, San Antonio, I know it's early.
02:45I think they're a good team.
02:46You know what I mean?
02:47They have the makings of a good team.
02:49They're still a young team,
02:51but we know that they've got people at different points on the floor
02:57that do different things on the floor,
02:59and so they have a lot of answers.
03:01We all know who De'Aaron Fox is and what he can do.
03:04I think he's still getting his legs.
03:06He started the year injured.
03:08Stephon Castle was the rookie of the year last year.
03:10I think he is ticketed for stardom.
03:13The only question about him being a one someday
03:15is if he's not going to get a chance to be a one
03:18because the Spurs already have a one.
03:20And then Victor Wembenyama is a cyborg.
03:23I mean, one of the more enjoyable parts of last night,
03:28and forget basketball for a second,
03:30this is on a human level,
03:32is just watching what a Warrior would do
03:34when they would drive by their man and get into the paint,
03:40but they knew that Victor was on the floor.
03:43And watching them kind of look,
03:45I mean, they look like teenagers at a party
03:48when the cops do show up.
03:50Everybody's like, look over your right shoulder, left shoulder.
03:53Where is he?
03:55And am I going to get embarrassed if I try to throw this one up?
03:59I know two-thirds, do I have this right, Grandy?
04:01Two-thirds of their shots last night were from behind the three-point arc.
04:05Is that true for the Golden State Warriors?
04:06I think two-thirds of their shot attempts were from behind the three-point arc.
04:15And the point that I didn't hear was I think Victor had a lot to do with that
04:19because there were a number of moments where the Warriors I know
04:22would have tried to finish at the Cup.
04:25And they didn't do that because they're like, there's no point.
04:29I couldn't even try to score on this guy.
04:31Well, they had a few, and one was late.
04:33GP2 goes up for a teardrop, and he sees that Victor's there,
04:37and so he throws it up about 13 feet in the air, and it doesn't go in.
04:41And Victor either got a piece or he changed it.
04:44And the other one, which Steve Kerr, I probably won't ask him about this specifically,
04:48but you had Pods drive in, and he had a clear line to the hoop,
04:52and he gets down there, and he sees that Victor's there,
04:55and instead of keeping the dribble alive, he like froze,
04:58and then he tried to throw it out, and he turned it over.
04:59But that guy at 7'5", and I don't know what his wingspan is,
05:03but it's got to be eight feet or more.
05:06He is an unbelievable force on defense, and then on offense,
05:10he is a bucket no matter where you try to guard him.
05:12So here's one question I have.
05:15I'd love to throw this out and see what people think.
05:19Was Draymond right?
05:22Does that all, like, does it kind of resonate differently that he did what he did,
05:28but then they came out the next night, and then they did what they did?
05:33Because I know they tried.
05:35Well, I don't know that I ever have watched a Warrior game and be like,
05:40I don't think they're trying.
05:41But obviously, like, they're talking about tightening some screws.
05:45They're talking, you know, Steve said even in the first quarter last night,
05:48they're trailing by 14, but he liked some of the things he saw in terms of the hustle,
05:54in terms of the closing out, in terms of what the team was doing.
05:57Their shots weren't falling.
05:59Okay, fine.
06:00But he liked some of the on-court analytics, if you will, the ball movement, the hustle.
06:06Okay.
06:08I'm just always interested in how something lands.
06:11And I don't think when Draymond spoke two nights ago,
06:14I don't think that that landed horribly with everyone,
06:16but I do think it landed horribly with a lot of fans for two reasons.
06:20One, it's like we're 12 games into a season, and you're already calling your team out.
06:25I don't love that.
06:26And then for a lot of Warrior fans, as we've noticed and we talked a little bit about yesterday,
06:31they've had it up to here with Draymond, period.
06:34If he opens his mouth, he's a loud mouth.
06:37And that's how some Warrior fans feel.
06:41And I don't have that feeling because I look at Draymond,
06:45and I'm not saying everything always lands perfectly, but I'm like,
06:48I sort of feel like if I'm going to trust a group of people to have a finger on a pulse
06:53of what a team needs, especially off the court,
06:57I'm going to trust the Steph Currys, the Steve Currys, and the Draymond Greens of the world
07:01because they've done it and done it so well for so long.
07:04So I look at that and I go, well, he must have had a reason.
07:08I don't think Draymond's doing that for no reason.
07:10And then the next night, you have a really strong road effort,
07:16quite frankly, the best road half of the year.
07:19Does that solidify what Draymond did as correct?
07:24For a night, sure.
07:26Okay.
07:26So like on a one-night Saturday.
07:28That's all we got right now.
07:29Right.
07:29And if you want to like really go deep inside the game,
07:32they got an unbelievably generous whistle where you shot 36 free throws and the Spurs shot 16.
07:38So that to me was a big part of why you won the game.
07:41You got a lot of foul calls that went your way and you got a lot of free throws that you don't normally get.
07:47So the effort, yeah, it was good.
07:49Steve Kerr also tightened the rotation way, way down.
07:53You didn't have TJD.
07:54You didn't have Guy.
07:54You didn't have Pat.
07:56You played basically 10 guys and nine.
07:59If you want to look at, you know, when JK went out at halftime,
08:02you didn't play anybody else in the second half.
08:05So it was partly what Draymond said, sure.
08:07The effort was there.
08:09And I think that pods played a little bit more like pods normally does,
08:13which is focused and not as careless, although he had three turnovers.
08:17And the real headline, though, is your best player was unbelievable.
08:22So if Steph goes for 46, well, that's not so much a Draymond Green speech game.
08:27It's a Steph Curry game.
08:29Sure.
08:29Yeah, absolutely.
08:30I mean, look, I don't think we need to hide from the fact that this team is just a very ordinary team
08:37when Steph Curry's not there.
08:38We have plenty of evidence of that, both last year and this year.
08:42Do we not?
08:42We do.
08:43He's got to be good.
08:44And Jimmy Butler also showed an interest in actually trying to score, which was kind of cool.
08:49Yeah.
08:50Yeah.
08:50I mean, look, they barely even got their thing going two nights ago.
08:55They played 20 minutes, all those guys.
08:57It's part of the reason why they were able to play so well last night, I think.
09:00Yeah.
09:00Yeah.
