A devastating road accident in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district has claimed eight lives, including an 11-month-old infant, after a bus collided with a mini-van and a motorcycle.
Multiple Vehicles Involved
The accident occurred near Ariyanur when a Tamil Nadu RTC bus travelling from Coimbatore to Salem allegedly lost control due to high speed and rammed into a mini-van (tempo). A motorcycle following the vehicles also crashed in the aftermath.
The bus reportedly veered off the road after the collision, intensifying the impact.
Heavy Casualties
Eight people died on the spot, including the infant and several members of the same family. Among the victims were a mother and daughter travelling on the motorcycle. Five of the deceased reportedly belonged to one family.
Six others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals after locals alerted authorities.
Investigation Underway
Preliminary findings point to overspeeding by the bus as the likely cause of the accident. Police have taken the bus driver into custody and are examining CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact sequence of events.
The tragedy has left the region in deep shock and mourning.
