The conversation shifts to the Miami Dolphins and a new era of leadership, with Jeff Hafley bringing a tougher, more disciplined tone that feels like a needed change from the previous regime’s looser style. While the structure and accountability sound like what the organization has been missing, there’s an understanding that year one could come with growing pains as the new staff works to clean up lingering issues.

00:00and the message. Kim Bo Camper,
00:02Dave Hyde in with us. Bo, how
00:04you doing, man? I'm doing good. You know, a little better.
00:06I was surprised. I could hear Dave Hyde's on
00:07here, and always fun to come in with Dave Hyde.
00:10Yeah. I'm getting bored with being
00:12sitting here with you and making
00:13me say stupid stuff every... No, no.
00:17Bo's blown up
00:17a couple of times on social media with comments
00:20he's made. I've
00:21seen it. I've heard of a couple of them.
00:23One of them, it always seems to be
00:25gets back to your high school is all I
00:28know whenever... No, no. That one's not the one that blows
00:30up. That's not the one that blows up. When we get into
00:31lefty throwing the ball... Oh, yeah.
00:34Yeah. Like, you don't know about that
00:35yourself from stuff you've written. Yeah.
00:37Anyway, and we got all day
00:39Dan Day. Woody's got the day off.
00:42How many days is Woody getting off?
00:43It seems like every other week I come here,
00:45he's gone. He has been gone. Did you notice
00:47he's not here on the days you're here?
00:50Is that where you're getting that? No, no. He usually
00:51likes to be here when I come in. He likes to be here when Bo's
00:53here because he likes to be here. Because he knows, like I've said
00:55this, you know, like Joe and him, I think
00:57they conjure it up before I get here.
00:59What's going to set me off?
01:01Like I said last week, I said
01:03it's like throwing a piece of meat out there.
01:05They know I'm going to jump on it and eat it. And then the
01:07next thing you know, I'm in Barry Jackson's
01:09column.
01:12Barry just can't
01:13make the point on his own enough, which
01:15he does make... has strong takes on
01:17things. But he's got to throw Bo in to kind
01:19of support what he's saying, you know?
01:21And so anyway, yeah.
01:23So Woody's got another day off.
01:25And I don't know.
01:26Good for him.
01:27You get a lot of time off.
01:28Where was he? Is he up in Disney or somewhere?
01:30He did go to Dollywood.
01:32He did the Dollywood deal.
01:33You know, I tell you, he's a good dad.
01:35Oh, no.
01:35He's got time off.
01:36He takes those kids around, man.
01:37He is, and I got to say this,
01:39is a guy that didn't exactly get straight A's
01:41with the kids through marriage and
01:43divorce and children in the middle there and
01:45everything else. But I got...
01:46But besides all that, Woody is...
01:48Woody's A-plus stuff, man.
01:49Well, so he's got time off now because
01:51he's not...
01:53Basketball.
01:54The Canes are out of the...
01:55And Canes had a really nice run.
01:56That was a good story.
01:57By the way, that guy.
01:59What a story.
02:00Rising star, didn't he?
02:01He came from, you know, obviously good
02:04pedigree at Duke and his family and all
02:07that, but first time a head coach and
02:11you left that season okay.
02:13They're in good hands right now.
02:14Speaking about Duke, my God, man.
02:16Ooh, that game was, you know...
02:19Yeah.
02:19I was watching the game and it was,
02:24I don't know, I found it was, it was
02:26whatever it was in the first half.
02:28I got this thing, this game's over.
02:29Oh, no, that looked like...
02:30It was 20 points.
02:31It was 20, so it's funny because it
02:33was like 24 to 18 and then it was
02:37eight or 19, you know what I mean?
02:40So they won, but, and I turned it
02:43off.
02:43I turned it off and then I...
02:45Well, you missed a hell of a finish.
02:46Well, you know what?
02:47I actually watched, it was on last
02:49night, I watched the replay.
02:50Oh, yeah.
02:51Yeah.
02:51No, no, the last, listen, and, you
02:53know, again, I feel bad because one of
02:58the boozers made a pass, you know, and
03:01so everybody said, oh, he should have
03:02held on to it.
03:03He's a really good free throw shooter.
03:04He was six for six in the game and
03:06didn't get it up quite high enough and
03:08it set up for a game-winning 35-foot
03:12three-point shot.
03:13Anyway, hey, let's get into this other
03:15stuff.
03:16John Eric Sullivan, Jeff Halfley, we're
03:18just talking about this bowl a little
03:19bit, teasing it, the message.
03:22I find these two guys, again, got to
03:26bring up history a little bit here, but
03:28it's just refreshing to have two guys.
03:30Because you just can't let it go.
03:31Because they're straight shooters.
03:33Yeah, I agree with that.
03:35That's all.
03:36I wasn't getting into anything.
03:38They get out in front.
03:39No, you two are looking.
03:40I'm not trying to stir it up today.
03:42I'm just saying, it's refreshing.
03:44By the way, they're on the same page.
03:46One's clearly going to be the coach, and
03:48the other one's going to have final
03:49decision and put this thing together
03:51and understand.
03:52So you talk about the comment that I
03:54think was Halfley made.
03:56He said, look, guys, if it's 110
03:59outside or whatever it is, we're going
04:02to be out there sweating.
04:03And if you don't want to do it, he
04:04says, look, you got an air-conditioning
04:08building in there that you can recover.
04:10Whatever, meaning that, hey, the way I
04:14took it is, get ready, because we're
04:15going to have a tough training camp, and
04:18we're going to work hard.
04:19And, you know, I mean, you can say that.
04:22He says that can be for everybody.
04:23But I tend to believe, I tend to believe,
04:25you know, I've said this about both of
04:28them.
04:29Anybody that says they know what's going
04:32to happen with them doesn't know what
04:34they're talking about.
04:35You know, they're both, they've got a
04:37first-time general manager.
04:38You've got a first-time head coach.
04:40They could go sideways.
04:42They could be a Hall of Fame tandem down
04:46the road.
04:47But no one knows until they get out and
04:49you start to see the product.
04:51But the way that they're talking, the way
04:53that they came out, you feel like this is
04:58going to be a little bit of an old-school,
05:03more disciplined type of football team.
05:05And not just saying so, you know.
05:08You know, the conversation when Mike was
05:10here was like, oh, yeah, we're a tough
05:12football team.
05:12And then you find out, no, you weren't a
05:14very tough football team.
05:15You can say you're a good tough football
05:17team.
05:18You can imagine you're a good football
05:19team, a tough football team.
05:21But when you got players that, you know,
05:24that are half in, half out, and, you know,
05:26kind of trying to set their own rules,
05:28that doesn't work.
05:29And I don't think these guys are going
05:31to be that kind of tandem.
05:34No, no, hell no.
05:35Jeff Halfley made it clear.
05:37I don't know who asked the question, but
05:39he went on about being late ain't
05:41happening.
05:42Yeah, yeah.
05:43He goes, that being late, I don't know.
05:45He didn't want to get into the past.
05:47We do that.
05:47But they made that point.
05:49The other thing I thought was interesting,
05:51guys, and listen, I've been telling
05:54people, hey, it ain't going to happen
05:55this year.
05:56But at least we can see if our
05:58quarterback can play.
05:59We can get some good young players.
06:00You can feel good going into the next
06:02year.
06:02We're going to have a lot of money.
06:04But, hey, man, I don't have high
06:07expectations if you're asking me on how
06:08many wins we're going to have.
06:10Yeah.
06:11You know what?
06:11For me, I don't care how many wins
06:14they get.
06:15I don't.
06:16This year, look, you're sitting here
06:18with, what, like 40-some-odd.
06:20If they have one win, you'll care,
06:21right?
06:22Well, yeah.
06:23You know what?
06:23You know what?
06:24Look, I don't want it to be a trap.
06:25I don't want it to be a dumpster
06:26fire.
06:27But the point being, you know,
06:30you're going in with, you're going
06:31in in a situation where you've got a
06:35quarterback that they believe if it
06:38could, because, look, no one knows
06:40them like, no one knows like Malik
06:42Willis like those two guys do,
06:44and especially half of it.
06:45So, if they're in, but look, it's not
06:47like they're paying him, you know,
06:49for, you know, the top 10 quarterback
06:51money.
06:52He's down in the bottom quarter
06:54from a money standpoint, but
06:56obviously they believe they're, if
06:57they're staking their, here's what
06:59I think we all like about them.
07:01They're strong and convicted and
07:04aggressive in a refreshing way, right?
07:07This is all different, and it's the
07:10way, it sounds like the way it should
07:12be.
07:12But there's two things that they've
07:14got, you know, that's the coach.
07:15And then when you go to the general
07:17manager, you said, you know, you're
07:19getting, you got all these guys on,
07:20on minimum contracts, like 40 some
07:23odd guys, whatever that number is.
07:25And so you can see what they're
07:26doing.
07:26They're flushing out all the
07:27deadwood, trying to flush out all
07:29those contracts, get as much draft
07:32capital as they can over the next
07:33couple of years and build it from the
07:34ground up, hoping that maybe the guys
07:37that they drafted last year, the top
07:39four guys are those, you know, the,
07:42the, the, the guard, the two, two
07:45defensive tackles and, and the guy you
07:48drafted two years ago to be an edge
07:49rusher, hope that they come into their
07:51own and become the players you
07:52expect them to be to give you at least
07:54a base where you can win some of
07:56those, you know, some, some games.
07:58But I don't think, look, the goal is
08:00always going to be winning when you
08:01step on the field, but I don't think
08:02that's the end, end goal for this.
08:05I think their goal is let's build this
08:07and build it the right way.
08:09And they've said time and time again,
08:11I've heard them say, you know what, we
08:13believe in building the, the, building a
08:15team from the, from the line of
08:16scrimmage out.
08:17And, and, and I, I fully believe in
08:19that.
08:20Well, it's a, it's a, cause they get
08:22asked and, and we'll look at our
08:24roster right now and go, Hey, I, I
08:26understand the roster right now is
08:27not, but we got to find out number
08:29one, if Malik Willis can play, they
08:31got to get some players around them.
08:32They know that they're going to
08:34contain, I think they're going to
08:35draft a top guy on the offensive line.
08:38I do.
08:39I think probably going to be two, maybe
08:40three guys in this draft that they
08:43draft on the offensive line.
08:44And they got to go get a receiver.
08:46And that wide receiver is going to
08:47be an important one early in the
08:50draft.
08:50I don't know how early he got two
08:51first round picks.
08:52And of course a 43rd pick in the
08:54second round as well.
08:55And then I thought it was
08:56interesting to chop Robinson stuff.
08:59Um, and Bo, I thought of you
09:00cause he said, uh, I can't wait to
09:02work with him.
09:03Look at it.
09:04It's no secret.
09:05He didn't have a great year in his
09:0615 games with.
09:08I think 10 or 11 solo tackles and a
09:11four sacks.
09:12But he said, I want to work with
09:13them.
09:14I look at those guys probably
09:15worked them out and know about
09:17them from when they were at green
09:18Bay, got that for the, and he
09:20brought how fast he is off the
09:21ball.
09:22And I said, I told, I said this on
09:24air.
09:24I said, yeah, we know he's fast
09:26off the ball.
09:27It's what, what he does.
09:28Yeah.
09:28It always reminds you.
09:30Look, I did the book with Jimmy
09:32Johnson.
09:32He would talk about, there was a
09:34guy wants that one to draft.
09:36And Jimmy said, we aren't taking
09:37them.
09:38I look at his speed.
09:39Look at it.
09:39No production, no production.
09:41And that's, that's, you know,
09:43those guys are going to try to get
09:45something, a guy's going to try to
09:46get something out of them.
09:47I, this, I know, look at, he's
09:50there and then he's not going to
09:52your three.
09:53So got guaranteed.
09:53So the best thing you can do is get
09:54the best guy you can to go in and
09:56help him.
09:57I think there's things he can do in
10:00the, you know, it's funny because
10:01when he had, when he was playing his
10:04best, you know, that Calais was there
10:07and then Tron Armstead were there
10:08and both of those guys got him to
10:11widen out a little bit and put more
10:13pressure on that tackle.
10:14And then as a last year, he was kind
10:17of creeping in, you know, yeah, he
10:19must've been coached to stay.
10:20I don't think he did that on his own.
10:22Because, you know, like, like when he
10:23widened out, he made those tackles
10:25come out to him and that gave him a
10:28two-way go.
10:29You know, if you keep, if you keep,
10:30if you're tight and he's, and he's
10:32got to get better with it, the run,
10:33but look, what about his hands?
10:35I think chop.
10:36What about his hands?
10:37I think chop is a person, knows he
10:40has to get better.
10:41And I think he's going to work
10:41really hard.
10:42Well, he hears everything.
10:44Cause apparently I was, Omar, Omar
10:46knows who follows everybody on
10:47everything.
10:48And he was saying, Oh no, he he's
10:50he's not happy.
10:51A lot of stuff.
10:51Hey man, if you don't like it, I
10:53agree.
10:53Go out and let it motivate you, man.
10:55Produce man.
10:56Let it absolutely motivate you.
10:57And I don't know what it is.
10:59I don't know if he falls in the
11:00Reuben Bain short, you know, arms
11:03are too short.
11:04I don't know if I haven't heard
11:05that I don't know what his arm
11:06length is, but, but, but he is a
11:08little in from the run game.
11:09I think, I think the passing, I
11:12think the past rushing game, you
11:13could probably make him better.
11:16It's going to be, you know, the
11:18other, the other side, the
11:19learning game side is, is, is a
11:21little bit different because you
11:22get these big 300 pounders
11:24pushing you down the field.
11:25And if you're an outside guy trying
11:28to come in and play the inside
11:30run, you know, you're, you're not
11:32playing against a 230 pound, 240
11:34pound tight end.
11:35Now, now you're in with the big
11:36boys.
11:37Maybe we should be talking about
11:38Reuben Bain's arm length, arm
11:40length, and maybe he'll, he'd fall,
11:41you know, this is, you know,
11:43creating a, by the way, you know
11:44what, you know, Reuben Bain, what
11:45they rave about, Reuben Bain's
11:47really good against the run.
11:48He actually played a lot of
11:49defense.
11:49Good against everything, right?
11:51I mean, he's a record.
11:53He's a, he puts on numbers.
11:54They have numbers to work off
11:56of him.
11:57And by the way, in all the
11:58biggest games, he was at his
12:00best, right?
12:01We've, uh, we got to go to break
12:02here real quickly here.
12:04When I got you guys, we'll, I do
12:05it on my own.
12:06We run a little bit late here,
12:07but our boss not up for two
12:09hours.
12:09We're good.
12:10Hey, I got to tell you right
12:11now, man, we got a lot of stuff
12:12going on.
12:12Marlins baseball five and one
12:14start for the Marlins.
12:15How about that man?
12:1610, nothing win Sandy Alcantara
12:18getting it going.
12:19They're on their way up today.
12:21They're off and we'll be
12:22playing the Yankees in a three
12:23game series in New York.
12:25And then they're going to be
12:25coming home, the fight and
12:27fish, uh, man.
