00:12nfl owners meetings perk is watching from afar with the rest of us in south florida and we saw
00:20perk friday at gulfstream park he was hosting the uh youtube and radio show with mike mayo
00:25and uh he was feeling you were filling in for defo perk yeah yeah yeah you know um i love
00:33food and
00:33me and mayo go back a long way we worked at the sun sentinel together uh when i got here
00:38in 97 so we
00:39were actually our little claim to fame together is that we were in the car together the night that
00:46princess died died we were coming back from covering the um baylor season opener in 97 driving up north
00:54i-95 from waco to dallas and it came on the radio so yeah wow what a weird memory to

01:01mayo i love that show about food i love talking about food was it interesting to flip the script
01:07on me and you were the interviewer and i'm the interviewee yeah yeah no that was good i was good
01:13we we had we had some good food discussions too man so that that was good uh you're i i'm
01:18not down
01:19with your thing about the the last nachos those flimsy nachos all cheese soaked and and all that
01:25but uh no we had some good food discussions on there i had to i had to tell park about
01:29uh the way
01:31that i prefer a ballpark nacho you know they got the little side cup of cheese i like to store
01:36the
01:36chips in there so they get soggy and flimsy yeah yeah perk you don't like that i mean that's that's
01:42an
01:42expert no no no no i like crispy crunchy and you know what so the the funny thing is that
01:49is my
01:49absolute favorite way to eat nachos is you you do come in the plastic tray and you stick just stick
01:56them in the cheese and you stick one pickled jalapeno on top and you eat it i don't need all
02:01the you know the ground beef and the and the refried beans and the sour cream and all that stuff
02:07on my
02:07nachos a chip some cheese and a pickled jalapeno that's it now crowder was shocked you know you
02:14guys had a plate of wings in front of you at gulfstream oh yeah and i had a couple of
02:18the wings
02:19and i was like wow these wings are really good if you remember during one of our commercial breaks i
02:22came back i stole another one you came back yep you did you did now yeah yeah that was my
02:28first time
02:28ever having lemon pepper wings i'd never had one before i didn't realize how good they were
02:36excellent and everything everything at uh 10 poems there is top notch man they they have some excellent
02:42uh shrimp tacos we have some beef carpaccio uh the burger is top notch but yeah those those wings man
02:49those wings are not to be missed man they are they are they are some of the best you're going
02:54to have
02:54in south florida surprisingly served at gulf stream not a place you would think it has really good wings
03:01but those lemon pepper wings are money yeah really good i was surprised anyway seems like um the
03:08dolphins from what i've read today and seen what uh john eric sullivan halfley have said seems like
03:14they have hosted ty simpson and carson beck on visits would you be surprised if they drafted a
03:21quarterback after signing malik willis i wouldn't be surprised if they drafted a quarterback in the first
03:29round because look only one quarterback can play right and you've already got a lot of uh money tied
03:37up in in the two of you want to tie up more money and either a first round pick or
03:42malik willis
03:43uh no and and so or again or money and resources i should say resources more with a first round
03:49pick
03:49than money uh but so yeah you know if you draft somebody fifth or sixth round to compete with
03:55quinn ewers for the backup job all right that's that's cool but no not not not somebody to compete
04:01with malik willis especially when you have so many other needs on the team i'd be absolutely shocked
04:07and to that point perk would you be surprised if the dolphins moved up in the first round they have
04:14two first round picks they have like i don't know 84 second round and third round picks i forgot what
04:19the
04:19actual number is but they just have a bunch of day two picks would you be surprised if the dolphins
04:24moved up in the first round with some of that draft capital or or is the expectation here that there's
04:31just so many holes to fill that the the amount of picks they have on day two and day three
04:36are going
04:37to be necessary to fill out this roster yeah that's what it is a lot of they you know what
04:42if if if they
04:43only needed like one or two positions to kind of get them over the hump if this was a situation
04:49like
04:50what denver did trading for jaylen waddle if the dolphins thought we're a wide receiver away i could
04:57see them trading up but yeah they have so many holes to fill i you know to me i i
05:02still think their dream
05:03scenario would be if ty simpson does so well and somebody wants him so badly that they want to get
05:10up to number 11 and the dolphins can can trade back and get more picks it really really sounds like
05:17uh sullivan and hasley are really excited about getting all these draft picks and building the team
05:24testing their drafting ability testing that develop ability um you know look they have seven picks seven
05:31of the top 94 picks uh two in the first round one in the second four in the third so
05:37pretty much that's
05:39starter territory right um i'm not saying they're going to draft seven starters but if you draft somebody in
05:45the top three rounds that's that's starter territory so it really seems to me that sully and half are
05:52very very excited about putting their draft and develop skills to work so uh i i would i would think
05:59they would accumulate picks as opposed to trading up and and you know maybe shedding a few picks that
06:05that's what i thought when they start talking about hey we might draft a quarterback i was kind of
06:10feeling like because one thing i think they did the old okie doke on malik willis they kind of uh
06:16made people believe that they may have a lukewarm interest when we know now that that was their laser
06:22focus i kind of feel like they might be trying to juice the market for carson beck or ty simpson
06:28where
06:28you're getting people who are teams that are saying oh you know what let's let's trade up and get higher
06:34and maybe the dolphins can cash in on that but after i say i don't trust what they're saying because
06:40i think
06:40they're adept at the okie doke i do believe them when they seem to imply that they want to extend
06:47devon hn and not move him uh would that be good news for dolphins fans i think it is i
06:54hope devon
06:55hn's part of this team for a long time uh it seems like they have no interest in moving on

07:01yeah no i i think they really want hn to be a part of the to be a part of
07:05the core a pillar
07:06as john eric sullivan called him yesterday at the at the annual meeting out there in phoenix
07:12and look that's smart because you see what devon hn has done in the previous three seasons he's a guy
07:19who at 191 pounds that that durability has improved it it hasn't gone the other way it's improved he's a
07:27guy who falls forward when he gets tackled he's a guy who can catch the ball now i will say
07:32this as
07:33much as i love hn he's 191 pound running back you better get some help for him back there he
07:40can't
07:40carry a big load especially between the tackles for the next two or three years they've got to hope
07:47that jalen wright or ollie gordon emerges so that they can kind of share that workload kind of the way
07:52that that detroit did it um you know a couple of running backs to to kind of to kind of
07:58share the
07:58load because you know there's as good as hn is and as much as i like them at 191 pound
08:06running back
08:07is probably not going to be effective for a five six seven year stretch i mean i you know guys
08:14have
08:14but i i wouldn't count on it so i would i i trust hn i like hn but the game
08:20says you got to get that guy
08:22some help because his his body physically probably can't maintain carrying a big rushing and receiving
08:29load it's funny that you say that perk because they've kind of done the opposite so far and i
08:34know there there's still a lot to to do in terms of roster construction and i did see that sully
08:40he
08:41didn't flat out say that he told malik willis on pro football talk today or maybe it was yesterday
08:46that they they told them that they were going to trade jaylen waddle but he said like connect the
08:51dots you know i'm a new new gm coming in and i signed a guy there's mutual respect there so

08:57basically said like we told him what our plan was but what's your gut feeling there did malik willis
09:05know that a teardown was coming when he signed with the dolphins like what what does your gut tell
09:09you about that situation um you know what what sully told the the uh media yesterday that the print
09:17media was that he talked to uh malik willis after the deal was done and he said you know i'm
09:24not
09:24gonna go consult guys and and ask their opinion before i do a deal that's not the way it works
09:29so uh my understanding is that they talked to malik after the deal was done to let them know you
09:37know we don't plan on leaving you high and dry we got a great offer uh we weren't trying to
09:43to you
09:43know trade jaylen waddle denver are they're the ones that called us and kind of breaking it down to
09:49them and i think that's a good way to operate because i'm sure malik willis was like wait a
09:54minute who are my receivers now and so i'm sure they told them look you know you got the draft
10:00we have
10:01four third round picks that we can possibly trade for starting receivers so we're gonna get you some
10:08assistance we'll get you a tight end you'll be able to throw to to uh you know the bond a
10:13-chan and
10:14we'll get you a number one receiver just hang with us i i think it was something more along that
10:19vibe
10:19as opposed to before it happened hey we're gonna do this so uh and again that that's a good way
10:26because you know look that trade caught us all by surprise and and i think that that uh malik
10:33willis probably felt it harder than any of us hey park now that we're seeing the new regime in
10:39action and i understand first of all hindsight's 2020 i get it man we haven't seen a single game on
10:45the field let alone a single season but as you're seeing the new regime in action at the nfl owners
10:51meetings and what their style is do you say now in hindsight stephen ross held on to mike mcdaniel
10:58and chris greer one season too long all this should have begun last season heck yeah heck yeah you
11:05you know and i and i have written this that if i would have investigated getting rid of them after
11:13the 2024 season just because you can't have that much talent and not win a playoff game i don't know
11:21if i would have done it but i but i definitely wrote about it and i definitely would have thought
11:26about it if i was steve ross um it's the difference in these two regimes at this point is just
11:32night and
11:33day and look i i was all for the greer mcdaniel plan of of going for it and let's try
11:39to win now
11:40i think that was smart i i really do i was against the playing style i was against the
11:46the beat pass offense i i think they should have done something closer to what philly does or seattle
11:53does or denver does or san francisco does i mean you don't need some superstar quarterback you have a
12:00good quarterback a good run game and a good defense and you can beat teams in two or three ways
12:06the the mcdaniel tour dolphins could only beat you one way that was with the deep pass they couldn't
12:11beat you with the run they couldn't beat you with with um you know the the past rushers they couldn't
12:17beat you with the the secondary it was it was just such a one-trick pony and that was my
12:22big objection
12:23that's why i think steve ross should have made the change this team is not going to be so malik
12:30willis dependent i think this is going to be a more complete team i'm really really really liking what
12:36they're saying and what they're doing obviously the talent is not allowed to be there because of
12:42financial reasons but i i like what they're saying and doing i i think this team these teams are going
12:48to come way closer to reaching their full potential than the previous thing i don't think that the
12:54previous four years there's not a single dolphins team that reached its full potential all of them
