In rural Japan near the end of WWII, villagers capture a Black American pilot whose plane has crashed. He’s kept in a shed as a “prize,” and the community oscillates between fear, curiosity, and cruelty. The boy Takashi (Ishidō) becomes the pilot’s guard and forms a tentative bond, but the village’s paranoia and violence escalate. The pilot’s attempt to escape ends in his death, and Takashi is left to reckon with the village’s brutality.
