After a botched robbery, Dickey pushes a broken-down car across the rising tidal causeway to Lindisfarne with his mortally wounded accomplice Albie bleeding inside. Cut off by the tide, they invade the isolated castle home of George and Teresa. Dickey disconnects the phone, holds the couple hostage, and waits for his underworld boss Katelbach to arrive and pick them up.

Albie dies; Dickey forces George and Teresa to bury him on the beach, then a grotesque “wake” follows—Dickey and George get drunk together while Teresa swims nude in the sea. The power dynamic keeps shifting: Dickey humiliates George (emasculating games, role-play), Teresa taunts both men and flirts with Dickey, and George vacillates between servility and petulant rage.

The next day a car finally approaches—but it’s not Katelbach; it’s George’s obnoxious friends (Cecil and family) arriving unannounced for a visit. Dickey pretends to be the servant to avoid suspicion; Teresa flirts with Cecil. A child finds Cecil’s shotgun and blasts a stained-glass window; the gun is hidden. George snaps, orders everyone out. The guests leave—Cecil forgets his shotgun.

Dickey retrieves a Tommy gun from the chicken coop, tries to force George to drive him off the island, but collapses; he fires wildly, sets George’s car ablaze, and dies. Cecil returns for his shotgun and offers Teresa a ride; she leaves with him, abandoning George. George smashes his studio, runs to the beach, and as dawn breaks sits on a rock in a fetal position, weeping and shouting the name of his first wife as the tide rises around him.
