Ed, Jeremy, and Rob are not buying Sashi Brown's "slow news cycle" description regarding why the Maxx Crosby scenario is getting so much attention league-wide.
Transcript
00:00Ravens team president Sashi Brown yesterday pushed back on the notion that the Baltimore Ravens reputation is tarnished.
00:10This is what he had to say.
00:11One, I think it's a slow news cycle.
00:13I don't want to at all downplay the experience that Max had coming, that we all had.
00:20Raiders, Ravens, Max, our locker room.
00:24As Eric said, we were incredibly excited and just as equally, if not more, disappointed that we weren't able to
00:32pull off that transaction and bring Max to Baltimore.
00:36I'm not going to go too much deeper into that.
00:39To answer your specific question, we've got strong, long relationships across the league.
00:45We have emphasized the importance of doing things the right way.
00:50We'll continue to do that.
00:51And we understand that it is a headline story because of its profile and significance.
01:00We believe our relationships, to the extent that you need time to repair them, people understand who we are and
01:06what we're about.
01:07Our locker room understands that as well.
01:09But when you have high-profile transactions like this and opportunities like this, it's unfortunate, but sometimes these things do
01:17happen.
01:17No fault of Max, it certainly ours or the Raiders.
01:21He said a lot there and nothing.
01:23Again, that's Ravens team president, Sashi Brown.
01:25He said a lot there.
01:27What is going on, though?
01:28Because SpyTech for the Raiders had also made comments like, you would be perfectly in your own right to have
01:36a little mudslinging.
01:37Like, I don't know what was going on over there.
01:38It's like, I don't want to get into it.
01:39Nobody wants to get into it.
01:40Why?
01:41Why don't you want to get into it?
01:42Because who's actually in the wrong if all this is going on?
01:46And I don't...
01:47Maybe nobody's in the wrong.
01:49Listen, the Raiders knew he was injured.
01:51The Ravens knew he had surgery, obviously.
01:53They were excited.
01:54But I heard accounts that they were actually very excited when he got to the facility.
01:58But they decided, you know, this is the calculus I think you would have to do.
02:03If they get him and they take a chance and they get him for only one year, because that's all
02:09he's got left in his knees, you gave up two first-round picks.
02:12So that probably deterred them.
02:14He won't play past your second pick that you gave up.
02:16Right.
02:17So, I mean, you're not going to make that kind of move.
02:19And I don't believe...
02:21I don't know why Sashi's backpedaling this to say, well, it's no big deal, slow news cycle.
02:25That's not true at all.
02:26That's a huge story.
02:28It is.
02:28It was the biggest story in sports.
02:29Max Crosby is not a small figure in the National Football League.
02:32And he's better than Trey Hendrickson.
02:34He's given a deal.
02:35There's nothing to see here.
02:36Yes, there is.
02:37Yes, there is.
02:37Something happened.
02:38You are the Baltimore Ravens.
02:40Yeah.
02:40Let's start there.
02:41You are the Baltimore Ravens.
02:43You're not small potatoes.
02:45Right.
02:45You have arguably the best quarterback in the game, the best weapon at quarterback in the game,
02:52who many people feel like the Super Bowl window is closing for.
02:56You know, that's number one.
02:58You just got rid of your coach that was here for almost two decades.
03:02Yeah.
03:02You have a new head coach.
03:04On the other side, it's the Raiders.
03:06Now, while they haven't been anything over the last 10, 15 years, they're still the Raiders.
03:12They're still a brand.
03:13And then, oh, by the way, you have one of the game's top three or four pass rushers.
03:20Not just best pass rushers, which he is, best edge defenders.
03:24Yes.
03:24Because he's better against the run than Hendrickson, and probably the rest of them.
03:27Because other than, you know, our buddy in Cleveland, who's also outstanding in both aspects,
03:33I think the only person Crosby was second to was him in tackles for loss.
03:40So, that's it.
03:41The both of them are great edge defenders and great pass rushers.
03:45Hendrickson is a pure pass rusher, and I'm happy he's here.
03:48And I'm fine by that.
03:49Get to the quarterback.
03:50Yeah, I'm fine with it, too.
03:51But, I mean, Max Crosby is not an insignificant player.
03:54He's a household name in this league.
03:56All of those elements combined make this a tremendous news story.
04:02And the fan base was crushed.
04:03I was, like, crestfallen.
04:06Like, oh, because when I heard they got him, like, I can't believe they actually did it.
04:09And then to hear the story that, well, no, it's not happening now.
04:12I thought it was a joke.
04:13We can't have nice things.
04:15It just, yeah.
04:16We can't have nice things.
04:18Listen, first of all, let me say this.
04:20I can't say it enough.
04:22I'm not upset with the Ravens for backing out of the deal.
04:25No.
04:25Because just backing out of the deal for cold feet does not make sense to me.
04:29You already gave up the draft picks.
04:31I don't think it was cold feet.
04:33I think it was.
04:33No.
04:34They've got some information.
04:37Listen, you don't have to agree with their decision.
04:39No.
04:40If they got information that makes them feel uncomfortable, they have to write the back out of it.
04:46That's why you do these deals days before the league year begins.
04:50Now you're locked into it.
04:51Yeah.
04:52That's why you do all your homework before.
04:54Yeah, and I don't fault people because these are hard decisions to make.
04:59And if you think about it, just personalize it.
05:01You make these decisions in your own lives, everybody.
05:04When you have a medical diagnosis, do I need surgery?
05:07Am I going to do this?
05:08Do I want to try to heal holistically?
05:10Do I want to take medicine?
05:11Do I want to go through chemo?
05:13These are all decisions you have to make.
05:16And they're hard.
05:17And people disagree with you and your own family very often.
05:19That's when you have to ask yourself, what would Aaron Rodgers do?
05:22And they'll do the opposite.
05:24I'm going to go to a...
05:26Do you remember the guy we sat next to who looked like Aaron Rodgers in Sarasota?
05:29Yes, he looked just like him.
05:31We have a cigar.
05:32Finally, did you say it too?
05:33Yes.
05:33Yeah.
05:34He did.
05:35He looked just like him.
05:36He said he hears it a lot.
05:37Didn't he pretend to be Aaron Rodgers somewhere?
05:40He said he did sometimes.
05:41I wanted to be the guy that anytime I go on vacation and I see somebody that kind of looks
05:45like somebody,
05:45to take a picture and just keep posting it on social media.
05:48Met Denzel Washington and somebody.
05:50That's just a random black dude.
05:51Oh, look at this.
05:52Jim Carrey.
05:53No, that's actually a woman.
05:54What are you talking about?
05:55I took a picture of the Stanley Cup as Brian Leach.
05:58I did.
06:00Because I looked like him at the time and I was guarding it.
06:02I told this story a thousand times.
06:04My favorite one is my dad when he went to the Bahamas and he told me he met...
06:07I used to watch Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Mark Curry.
06:09And he's like, oh, I met that guy on the show you watch, Mr. Cooper.
06:13And I'm like, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper?
06:15You met Mark Curry?
06:16He goes, yeah.
06:16And he can't wait to show me the picture.
06:18And I look at it and I went, what the hell's wrong with you?
06:22You just took a picture of the black dude at the airport.
06:25Come on, man.
06:26This man made him think he was Mark Curry.
06:28Guy's never even had Curry.
06:29What are you talking about?
06:30You just took a picture of the black dude at the airport.
06:30You just took a picture of the black dude at the airport.
06:30You just took a picture of the black dude at the airport.
06:30You just took a picture of the black dude at the airport.
06:30I'll see you next time.
