00:00It was. It was a team win.
00:01And again, Kramer last night, I think when you first started watching the game,
00:05you're going, oh, this isn't it.
00:06Oh, no. First pitch, bang.
00:08Oh, what did Kevin Brown say?
00:10He said, first pitch was, I'm making this up, 7-0-7.
00:13First run scored was 7-0-8.
00:15He crossed home plate at 7-0-8.
00:17One of those things where it's just like, oof.
00:20And then, of course, Corbin Carroll, get him down two strikes,
00:22and then he gets on, and you're wondering what's going to happen,
00:24and then Jeremiah Jackson makes a great play at second.
00:27Dean Kramer settles down.
00:28He gets a ton of strikeouts last night.
00:31But I think the story mainly was the offense coming back from a deficit like that
00:36and all the guys that contributed from Gunner.
00:39I mean, that might have been one of the hardest hit balls I've ever seen
00:42in the gap from Gunner that he tripled on.
00:44You're watching the outfit. Who was it? Corbin?
00:46No, it was Alex Thomas.
00:48They both have similar hairstyles.
00:49So when he was running over, he tried to play the ball,
00:52and it was just moving so fast he didn't even get to it that he thought.
00:54But, yeah, so I think that, Jeremiah Jackson,
00:58obviously you can talk about the bomb, the Grand Slam,
01:00and then, of course, Pete Alonzo really setting it up
01:03and getting them the lead and not looking back.
01:05So it was a cool team effort.
01:06They outscored them 8-0 in their final three at-bats.
01:118-0.
01:14This was after the same inning.
01:16This was the same inning Arizona put the game out of reach
01:19with a three-run bomb to make it 7-1.
01:23But, I mean, that's, yeah, impressive.
01:27You go back and look at it, and it's, somebody else said it,
01:30that this team feels a little bit different than last year.
01:32Everybody tried to label them after a couple of games.
01:34And I don't even know if it's fair to sit here and say,
01:36because of one win and the comeback win,
01:38that everything is different.
01:39But I've felt that way since the beginning of the season.
01:42I felt like adding a Pete Alonzo,
01:44the rotation you had where you go from your number one starter last year
01:48being your number five starter this year
01:50and then sending the guy that pitched the most innings for you last year
01:53down to the minors because you had too much pitching.
01:55And then now nobody wanted Cade Povich,
01:57and now they all want Cade Povich to stay because he had a good start.
02:00And maybe Povich has turned the corner,
02:02but one start is not deciding that.
02:04The same way it's not deciding anything for any of these guys at this point.
02:08I don't know, man.
02:09I look at this and seeing the fact that they've had all these injuries.
02:13Last year we had these injuries and they were losing games.
02:15We keep having injuries and they're finding ways to win now
02:18and then they're tied for first.
02:19I don't want to keep having injuries,
02:20but it's good that you have more depth than you had last year.
02:25Blaze Alexander, not hitting particularly well right now,
02:28but he's still worth it to me because he does so many things for you.
02:32Yeah, I mean, look, play so many different positions.
02:34Talked to him.
02:36Talked about it last night with the goofy play where he hit it down the line.
02:39Corbin Carroll drops the fly ball.
02:41It looked like Carroll was in fair territory.
02:43I don't know what they saw.
02:45They didn't change it.
02:45Then he gets on base from catcher's interference, but I like plays.
02:49I think at worst you're getting someone that's going to provide top-notch defense
02:53wherever he plays.
02:55I think he's got a plus arm, but also early on in the season,
02:59he's made some – he had some nice hits early on.
03:02I think he's just scuffled here as of recent.
03:04Yeah, he does.
03:05He'll get it together.
03:07You know, I'm wondering how many – well, I can't say he's not used to playing this
03:12much in a row because he did back in the last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
03:18Your thoughts on Leody Tavares?
03:21Well, I mean, he's the best defensive center fielder they had.
03:24I had – my buddy Phil just sent me a text saying he thinks Enrique Bradfield's going
03:27to be the guy before the end of the year.
03:28Only issue with Enrique, and he's hitting right now, is he's got to hit.
03:31He's got to hit.
03:32And if you have a lineup – so if you have a lineup like this that's scoring runs,
03:38and I'm not saying like last night.
03:39I know that's a lot to score.
03:40But if you're averaging your four or five runs a game and you're doing what you're
03:45supposed to do on offense, I think you can have a – if you want to deem it a hole
03:49at the bottom of your lineup if you're getting plus defense in center field.
03:52I think teams have done that for years with shortstop and second base right before
03:55these big power hitters come along at those positions where you've got these guys
04:00that are punch-and-judy type players that play great defense.
04:04And I don't know what Enrique Bradfield's bat's going to play at the Major League
04:07level.
04:08I know his glove's going to play.
04:10They scored 21 runs in the last three games.
04:14Yeah.
04:14I mean, look, they've – the offense has woken up.
04:17It's a wake.
04:18And, again, it's not just one singular person.
04:21It started off with Gunnar and Taylor – Tito Ward being hot as fire.
04:26Oh, my gosh.
04:27I didn't know what you were going to say there.
04:29Yeah, that too.
04:31And then now watching Alonzo get that base hit.
04:34That's dangerous.
04:35Basayo hitting a piss missile the other day.
04:37I mean, that thing – there's this new thing on, like, FanDuel and DraftKings you can bet
04:42on.
04:43Is it – was this a missile that was hit, a line drive or something?
04:46I guess you can bet on how fast the baseball is coming off the bat, you know, the exit velocity.
04:52There's all kinds of weird nonsense these days.
04:54But, again, going back to the offense, it's been a bunch of different people that have helped out.
05:00Jeremiah Jackson yesterday.
05:01Pete Alonzo.
05:01Those are two guys who are like, hey, Jeremiah Jackson had a nice weekend, but they step up.
05:06And I told you, I was happier for Pete Alonzo once I saw him.
05:11The interview he did when he was struggling, I watched that.
05:13And you can – I don't think he's BSing.
05:15You know, I think he's being sincere in the fact that he's upset about some of this, how
05:20he's been performing.
05:21But getting that home run last night, knowing that he's always hitting April and it's down,
05:25as soon as it heats up, I think you're going to see a lot of balls leaving the yard from
05:28his bat.
05:28Donna hit one straightaway center, not the triple, that was hovering right at the center
05:34field.
05:35He was a little bit upset.
05:36Basayo did, too.
05:37Hit a hard one to the outfield.
05:40A little upset over that.
05:41But they're hitting – they're making good contact on these things.
05:43And you can't say, well, it doesn't matter.
05:45It's all about results.
05:46Well, it matters when you're going to hit hard contact in between the outfielders.
05:50You don't get those hits unless you have hard contact.
05:53Yeah.
05:54I mean, look, the basis of what you want to see, and you're talking about hard hits,
05:58you could hit the ball hard right at somebody.
06:00But if you're looking at over the course of the period of, you know, a season, a month,
06:05whatever, you can start to see you'd rather have a hard hit rate than duck snorts going
06:09out the right and left field off the end of the bat.
06:11It's telling you that you're making contact, that if you want to look at barrels – excuse
06:15me, barrels is another big thing that you could look at with baseball.
06:19And I feel like we've got a lot of guys that can definitely barrel up the baseball, even
06:22though up until this point they really haven't as much as you'd liked.
06:26The hard hit's been up there, but the barrels haven't quite been there just yet.
06:30Hans and Alberto, what got him out of baseball?
06:33Duck snorts.
06:34Mm-hmm.
06:34When the outfielders or the analytics people said, well, we know if you pitch him here,
06:41he's going to hit it there, so pitch him there.
06:43Well, we're hearing this again.
06:45Are you watching what's going on in Tampa?
06:46Chandler Simpson, who's going to lead the league in stolen bases at some point, the guy's just
06:51too fast.
06:52They're talking about him in the leadoff spot going back and doing what Louisa Rize was
06:57doing.
06:57Remember when everybody's like, oh, I wish we had a Louisa Rize until you watch him and
07:00go, hey, his on-base percentage is 330, and he's hitting 318.
07:04I don't know if that's going to work.
07:07But with Chandler Simpson, right now he's hitting almost 400.
07:09I think he's hitting over 400 going back to the last game they played.
07:14And he's just unbelievably fast.
07:16This is a guy that could steal you 60 to 70 bases if he's getting on.
07:18And so you'll find guys like that where it's like, hey, I like him, but you have to add
07:23something of significance if you're going to be that type of player.
07:26Don't get up there and strike out.
07:27Now, you have some info on that loud out by Samuel Basayo, Joe?
07:32That was the tied for the hardest hit ball of the night with Marte's game opening homer.
07:37What was it?
07:38108.6.
07:40There you go.
07:40Almost 109.
07:42Yeah, and it was the ninth fastest bat speed of the night, too.
07:50So, a lot of swinging.
07:52That was top 10.
07:54Expecting batting average on that was 740.
08:00That's hitting it to battle up.
08:02Joe LaCroix's article at 945, but on the other side is Jeremy Carr's daily line.
08:06Yeah, mixed bag last night.
08:08Went 3-3 in baseball.
08:10Split in the NHL as well.
08:13So, it was really a full-on kiss your sister night.
08:15Did call a bunch of home runs.
08:17Even Pete Alonzo's homer said it's not cute, but I thought Aaron Judge was in one of the best spots
08:21to hit a home run.
08:23Had quite a few calls.
08:24And there were a bunch of guys.
08:25I think there were five guys last night that hit multiple homers in games, like Schwarber, Cattell Marte, Aaron Judge.
08:31You can go at it.
08:32But I've got my home run plays for today.
08:34I've got the baseball plays, and we have two of the play-in games in the NBA playoffs.
08:38I'll give you my thoughts when we come back.
08:39I'll give you my thoughts when we come back.
