00:00the nfl draft first round is eight days from today kind enough to give us a few minutes of
00:06his time our longtime friend from cbssports.com on the window nation guest hotline ryan wilson
00:12ryan what's happening hey bob how you doing doing all right man and when you put together this big
00:17board as you did a couple of days ago at cbssports.com what was the most difficult position
00:23to kind of separate players from here almost like i guess a recruiting rankings for basketball and
00:29football here yeah and it's interesting because this draft class as we've been told repeatedly isn't
00:35very deep after you talk about the quarterback but i think it actually is interesting so i think it
00:40then it becomes what are you looking for for your specific needs as a team because do you like
00:46arbel reese or david bailey for example at number two for the jets david bailey is going to be a
00:50more
00:50ready-made edge rusher where arbel reese is a you know potential top-end talent he's going to need
00:55to fill that role if you will i think he could have actually into being a fred warner 2.0
01:01type
01:01who has also the versatility to to blitz off the edge but if you're aaron glenn understanding that
01:06you may have only months left of your job do you have time to help that player develop into what
01:12you expect him to be or do you roll with the david bailey so that was one of the conversations
01:17you have to have the other thing and this is not unique to this draft class how do you rank
01:21these
01:22guys given their injury history but also understanding how talented they could be
01:25caleb thanks for example is a obvious one for me the deepest alum out of florida who struggled to
01:31stay healthy last year uh who got hurt at the combine and who's also by the way 6'6 330
01:3835 inch
01:39arms and insanely uh disruptive when he is healthy is he a first round pick or does he slip a
01:46little
01:46bit because of it that's a question jordan tyson's another question the wide receiver at arizona state
01:50who's had injury throughout his career and what does that look like so those were sort of the
01:55the touch points for me what i've learned in doing this for so long is that uh bob nobody knows
02:01what
02:01they're doing whether you have tens of millions of dollars invested in scouting these players or
02:05whether you work for a media company because there's so much variability and you know we got
02:09to wait a couple years to figure out together if these guys are good or not jeremiah love is a
02:13guy
02:13that's a bit at the top of some you know uh you know uh big boards ryan as you know
02:19notre dame
02:19running back what's the risk taking a guy like him in the first round because i saw something this
02:25morning on one of the uh networks where the last first round top five pick to get drafted as a
02:31rookie and help his team win the super bowl and rush for over a thousand yards was jamal lewis
02:36back in 2000 for the ravens who wasn't even starting for the ravens at the beginning of the season
02:41that was priest holmes love there's no denying the talent but i've seen some mocks where he doesn't
02:47get past four maybe he drops later into the uh eight or nine range where do you stand with him
02:53and no denying the talent but the instant impact that he might bring into state yeah i think he
03:00brings the instant impact but the question to your larger point there bob is that does that impact
03:05translate into deep playoff runs consistently and ultimately a sewer bowl because when you're taking
03:10someone that high that's that's obviously the plan i love jeremiah love but where i come down on him
03:15in recent drafts with running backs that have been taken high uh i like saquon barkley better and i'm
03:20talking about coming out of college not what they've since done i like bijon and jameer gibbs better
03:24and i like ashen janty a little better too and i know that's tainted by what happened last year in
03:28las vegas but if you can remove yourself from that he was that team at boise state um and you
03:34might say
03:34well they didn't play anyone he ran all over oregon and oregon is someone last time i checked
03:38so can jeremiah love come in and change the complexion of a tennessee titans team at four
03:43no but i think he's a he'll be a huge help for cam board obviously i think he has a
03:48better chance to
03:48get that offense going with someone like jayden daniels just because there are other pieces around
03:53and that team was actually pretty good a couple years ago before jayden got hurt but i think you're
03:57right maybe you have to look at it in the same way you look at saquon he had to leave
04:01the team
04:01to draft him to go in a through bowl with a team that had been good consistently over the last
04:05seven eight nine years which again begs the question is a running back going to be the
04:09final piece to a puzzle for a team that has eight nine ten different needs for the ravens at 14
04:15and
04:15we've talked about this over the last couple of months as a matter of fact i know vinnie likes
04:19finneau and sadique finneau the uh offensive tackle could move inside and sadique could come in and be
04:26you know athletic tight end replacing uh likely maybe even ultimately being a better version
04:31could they go cornerback what do you think baltimore's most prudent move would be if they
04:36stay at 14 and they have a quality lineman tight end etc etc sitting on the board wide receiver perhaps
04:44yeah i think i want to stand up in the face of 14 and that's an easy pick the guard
04:48out of penn state i
04:49know vinnie and you and i talked about that in previous weeks i keep hearing bob that he might be
04:55a top
04:5510 guy not necessarily because the position is sexy the guard isn't necessarily a sexy one that
05:01goes high but because he is the cleanest prospect in this class and sometimes instead of overthinking
05:07it with a you know talk about the chair my love situation just take this guy and he's gonna play
05:11for 10 years final makes sense as well because he plays right tackle at utah but he has a chance
05:16to
05:16move inside he's really athletic he moves well in space kenyan sadique i get that makes sense but
05:22also remember isaiah likely was what a fourth round pick and is there that big a chasm between
05:27sadique and isaiah likely in terms of what they can do i don't think so and again i like him
05:32i just
05:32don't know if i would take him that high but uh cornerback makes sense and then i still think
05:37the line makes a lot of sense there peter woods might slip which i doesn't make sense to me but
05:42that
05:42could be an option too as they try to figure out matt of vk's future coming off that injury last
05:46year
05:47all right last thing for you ryan what do you think happens with ty simpson here the polarizing now
05:51quarterback out of alabama polarizing bob only because we have so much time between
05:58the end of the season and the draft otherwise everyone seemed to like him back in january
06:01i think he's a good player man i know he's a little undersized at 6-1
06:05on a good day and i know he struggles with injuries which is a large part of why he struggled
06:09down the
06:09stretch but when he's healthy he's he's a first round pick and then the question becomes are the
06:14jets going to take him at 16 that feels a little rich especially there's a wide receiver there they like
06:19and then the steelers like him i know they do i don't know if they like him 21 like him
06:23uh and
06:24then the question becomes does the team trade back into the first round whether it's the cardinals or
06:28the jets who have high second round picks or even the steelers trying to get their way back into it
06:32but i think ultimately fit's going to matter and that's not any sort of grand revelation we saw that
06:38with mac jones last year in san francisco when he looked like the worst player on planet earth with
06:42the jaguars the year before uh obviously going to the rams would make a lot of sense in terms of
06:46him going
06:46being in a post stafford qb situation but i think he finds his way into the first round and honestly
06:52i don't know how you feel i think he's better than jackson dart coming out jackson dart ended up
06:56obviously going 25 last year when they just traded by the giants excuse me traded back up to get him
