00:00At the owners meeting, Jimmy Haslam has said it's possible for Deshaun to go from a swing
00:06and a miss to a home run if he starts this year.
00:09And so, like for anybody that has thought the entire time that the Browns are not taking
00:14this Deshaun Watson thing serious, first off, actions had to have shown you that they were
00:18already lining themselves up for Deshaun versus Shador.
00:21That was reality.
00:22But when he comes out and makes some of the comments that he's just made and has told
00:26a group of local reporters at the league meetings that Watson has a great chance and a fresh
00:30start with head coach Todd Munkin, it's led to believe that, yeah, Deshaun Watson is being
00:34taken very seriously in this race.
00:36Yeah, he is.
00:37And it is scary to think about, but that's where they're at.
00:42They're paying him $46 million for a final time.
00:45At least we hope it's going to be a final time, even though Andrew Barry yesterday floated
00:48the idea of a potential extension for Deshaun if he obviously plays well this season, which
00:54by the way, I have no expectation that is going to happen every time Deshaun has come
00:58back from suspension or injury.
01:00He has looked awful, and I'm expecting that he's going to look awful again.
01:04So I'm reading these quotes coming out from the owners' meetings from Mary Kay and Chris
01:12and Spencer, and I'm just sitting here thinking, I don't know, we got any liquor in here?
01:18Because that's just how I feel about it.
01:21I don't think we do.
01:21If it was 1985, we'd have liquor everywhere in a radio station.
01:25We don't have any around here.
01:26Or can I start smoking a cigarette or something?
01:28If you want to.
01:29I feel like I need a pick-me-up reading this stuff.
01:31Are you Don Draper all of a sudden?
01:33Is that what this turns you into?
01:36Just the thought of investing more time in the Deshaun Watson experience.
01:43I mean, they're investing.
01:45This is it.
01:45This is what they're doing.
01:46They're going full steam ahead, and there's nothing that's really going to throw them off this
01:49course at this point because we're too deep into this.
01:52Like a month and a half ago, you wanted to have this conversation.
01:54No, we're not too deep into it.
01:54We have an off-ramp.
01:56Take the off-ramp.
01:57It's there.
01:58The off-ramp always exists to just throw Shador out there and not have it be a competition.
02:02Right.
02:02But they don't want to do that.
02:03They clearly don't want to do that.
02:04And so now we're stuck in a situation where it's going to be the two of them versus if they
02:08end up drafting somebody, then okay, great.
02:10We can add them into the equation.
02:12But the convos we were having a month and a half ago about this situation are not the
02:16same convos we're having now.
02:17Here's how this is going to play out.
02:18The marketplace has dried up.
02:19Here's how this is going to play out exactly how last year played out with Joe Flacco, right?
02:24Joe Flacco started the season.
02:25It was unwatchable.
02:27Offense unable to do anything.
02:29And then they were like, well, okay, let's go ahead and trade Joe Flacco to force Kevin to
02:33play the kids.
02:34That's what's going to happen this year.
02:36Deshaun will probably win the starting job, okay, because he's going to look good in practice.
02:40You're not getting hit and chased around in practice, okay?
02:43There's no fear of any kind in practice.
02:48So Deshaun will, you know, he'll do the Instagram thing and look like the Instagram model and
02:54everyone's going to ooh and ah and get excited and all that, whatever.
02:56I'm not because I know how this movie ends and they're going to start him.
03:01The offense is going to do what the offense has done the last couple of years.
03:05And then they're going to hit the Popeye moment where they hit the eject button and say,
03:08okay, Shador Sanders, the rest of the season is yours.
03:10Let's see what you can do.
03:12Like that's, that's how this is going to play out.
03:14And, and, and the Browns are going to win four, five, maybe six games.
03:18Fans are going to be grumpy.
03:19I'm going to be grumpy.
03:20You'll probably be grumpy.
03:21Everett will be grumpy.
03:22And, and, and miles will be grumpy.
03:25And like, this is, yeah, this is what it's going to be.
03:29Like I, I, I can see how, and we'll see if Todd gets to see a second year.
03:34Like, I, I mean, I could tell you exactly how this is going to go.
03:37And the reason why is because Deshaun Watson hasn't looked like an NFL quarterback since
03:42the 2020 season.
03:43He chose to sit out 2021, got himself suspended for 11 games in 2022 after signing his contract
03:49with the Browns, uh, broke his shoulder, ruptured his Achilles twice at missed an entire
03:54year, last year.
03:56Okay.
03:56Like in what universe should I realistically, and I'm speaking for, this isn't about throwing
04:02shade at Deshaun or hating on Deshaun.
04:04I'm trying to speak from a very practical place right now, Jonathan.
04:07Yeah, I'm with you.
04:08How on earth am I supposed to sit in this chair and tell Flans?
04:13Yeah.
04:13You should be excited about Deshaun Watson starting for your football team this fall, because
04:18he's going to be back to what he was with the Houston Texans, even though we're six
04:22years removed from this guy looking like anything resembling an NFL quarterback.
04:27And we're almost another 700 days from the last time he's actually taken the field, which
04:31is the second time we've had to go through him being almost 700 days away and removed
04:35from taking the field.
04:36No, it's impossible.
04:37And we're less than 365 days away from the announcement that the Browns have terminated
04:41Deshaun Watson's contract and he will be a post-June 1st designation.
04:45The off-ramp is staring you in the face.
04:49Take it.
04:50Why are you selling people on Deshaun?
04:53What is this about?
04:54Why are they selling?
04:54If you're mad about it, I'm mad about it.
04:56We're all angry about it.
04:57Why do they continue to try to sell us this?
04:59And listen, even in some of the, more of the quotes that are coming out here, like Daniel
05:03Ofusi just has, where asked if he regrets last year's comments or how they came off.
05:08Haslam said, things could always be articulated differently, but it's not for lack of effort
05:12with Watson.
05:13Said he recently spoke with Deshaun, who said he weighs the least he has in several years and
05:17is in apparently good shape, whatever that means.
05:20When was effort ever an issue with Deshaun Watson?
05:22When did that conversation ever occur since he signed that contract?
05:27When did anyone criticize Deshaun Watson for effort?
05:31When?
05:31No, he just, he gets injured too often for my liking.
05:33And he wasn't very good when he was on the field.
05:35He was comically bad at certain spots.
05:37And like, and it looked, it looked night and day from when he was in Houston.
05:40And so like going back to it is, it's a very befuddling thing, but I, if you're not trying
05:45to win this next year, and I don't know how many different ways they can tell you they're
05:49not trying to win, then they're not going to invest any capital in anybody else.
05:52They're going to make it Deshaun versus Shador there.
05:55I guess they're giving Todd Monk in the leeway to make that decision on his own.
05:57We'll find out if that's actually true or not.
05:59And if you know how the Browns run, it's not going to be Todd Monk's decision.
06:03He will be told which quarterback wins the competition.
06:05I agree with you.
06:06I think Andrew Barry just, I think he just flat out lied yesterday when he said it was
06:09Todd Monk's decision, but that's the different story for a different time.
06:12And ultimately they're going to get there three, four, five, six wins, whatever that is,
06:15and set themselves up for the 2027 draft.
06:17Like, I don't think they're even trying to hide what their intentions are for next year.
06:22And so if you don't really care about next year in any serious way, then this is how you
06:26get there.
06:27And then you have competitions where it's Deshaun versus Shador.
06:30Now what I hope happens is I should do, I hope Shador just waxes the floor with Deshaun.
06:35And then all of a sudden can showcase something and maybe give us something to root for and
06:39something to get excited about.
06:40That's what I hope for.
06:41But with it, with this regime and where they are right now, if failing in 2026 is truly
06:46their objective and not being competitive, then who's to say Shador looks a million times
06:51better and they give it to Deshaun anyway.
06:53So I just checked my mentions to one of my posts.
06:55And so when a Browns fan posted, I'm going to go root for Buffalo, take Phil Savage's advice.
07:01Well, that's the other side of this though.
07:03Some fan bases, you would think that they would have to, they would care about what you think
07:07in this regard.
07:08They would care about your feelings and your opinions and how much, what he's put you through
07:11for a half of a decade.
07:13The Browns do not care, Daryl.
07:15They haven't cared the entire time.
07:17It's as if they make every move with the idea of how can we piss off the fans the most?
07:22That's why we brought up Miles Garrett and that trade earlier on in the show.
07:25Right.
07:25Add it to the list.
07:27You trade Miles, you start Deshaun Watson, you piss off every fan in Maria.
07:31They don't really care.
07:32They don't care.
07:33At least they've given me no impression to believe that they care.
07:37Yeah.
07:37They say a lot of things about a lot of things, but their actions are the exact opposite.
07:44Yeah.
07:44And you got to follow the actions with all this stuff.
07:46You got to follow the actions.
07:47Don't listen to what they say.
07:48Watch what they do.
07:49I say that.
07:50I hate to sound like the broken record here.
07:52Okay.
07:52But I say that all the time as well, in addition to about the press conference statements are
07:58not sworn testimony.
08:00It's the same.
08:00Watch what they do, not what they say.
08:06This whole thing, again, I'm just being realistic about the situation.
08:11You're asking a lot of the, and listen, I'm not going to have any sympathy for Deshaun.
08:15He's been paid a lot of money to do a whole lot of just, you know, rehab work behind the
08:22scenes.
08:22Like, Jimmy Haslam talking about effort.
08:25Like, again, I don't understand where you're coming from that.
08:27Nobody on this planet has criticized Deshaun Watson's effort.
08:32Nobody.
08:33No, I don't recall anyone saying, oh, Deshaun Watson's lazy.
08:37Deshaun Watson doesn't have the work ethic.
08:39Deshaun Watson, I've never heard that.
08:41And the reason why I haven't heard it is because it's not true.
08:43He does put it in the work.
08:44And Haslam is trying to back that up today in some of these comments.
08:47Like, he says specifically, like, it's not for lack of effort with Deshaun.
08:50I don't know why you need to bring that up.
08:52But lack of effort doesn't take, I don't care about your effort or if you're a tryhard
08:55or not.
08:56There's a lot of people that try really, really hard and fail.
08:59I don't, don't raise your hand at that, Daryl.
09:01Exhibit A.
09:01Daryl, don't raise your hand at that.
09:03But, like, I don't care.
09:04You're not Evel Knievel.
09:05You don't get paid for the attempt.
09:06You get paid for results in this business.
09:08And you've got to give results.
09:09And so, but again, anybody that thinks that this is whole,
09:12one big farce, and they're not serious about Deshaun.
09:15No, they are.
09:16And that's what scares me.
09:17I would add this to the million different ways that they've tried to tell you this offseason
09:20that they're taking the Deshaun Watson thing seriously.
09:23They're not just moving it aside, brushing it off, and saying,
09:27we're done with this.
09:28This isn't lip service.
09:29It's all an act.
09:30And this is all to try to make it seem like we're giving them a chance.
09:33But ultimately, we won't.
09:34No, this seems like they're really going to give this one a go.
09:38And enjoy your offseason.
09:39I'm, I'm, yeah, I'm going to need, I'm going to need a beverage or two or three.
09:44We can say all this.
09:45And Tony Pauline is going to join us in like seven minutes or so.
09:47But I will, I mean, I'm going to be interested in Shador versus Deshaun.
09:51I'm going to be, that's the camp battle.
09:53And it seems like we've been trending towards that direction for a while.
09:56I am going to be interested in how this is laid out.
09:58And I, there's not a, there's not a bone in my body that thinks he'll play better football
10:02than Shador, which means like last year, when Dylan Gabriel beat out Shador Sanders in
10:07many ways, all I kept telling everybody was something's smelly, something's off here.
10:12I don't like this.
10:13And I'm, I got a feeling I'm going to have that same antenna raised up this offseason.
10:16He will look better in practice than Shador.
10:18He's a practice field All-American.
