00:01Major League Baseball welcomes you to the following presentation of the Miami Marlins.
00:31We had so much fun last night here in Miami, Florida.
00:34We figured we'd come back one more time and join you today.
00:37Beautiful Saturday afternoon here at Lone Depot Park in Miami.
00:41Game two Marlins Rockies right here on Marlins.tv powered by Major League Baseball.
00:47I get everybody in a very pleasant good afternoon.
00:50Tommy Hunt and Kyle Seeloff back with you.
00:52A little chance of rain today, so the roof will be closed for game two.
00:55Last night, opening night, about as good as it gets.
00:58It's really crisp and a well-played ballgame.
01:00Yeah, baseball is the kind of game you have to put together neatly,
01:03kind of the way Kyle and I put together our outfits every day.
01:06But it's also a numbers game, and I'm going to go with, how about 6-3, 9-2, 2-4?
01:11The numbers last night, I'll explain.
01:14A 2-1 victory for the Marlins a night ago.
01:17Plenty of contributors.
01:18You know what was really cool, though?
01:19Guys that are new this year contributing.
01:22Well, it was great to see Owen Casey come up with a big hit.
01:25Last-minute replacement in the lineup, but stayed back on a slider.
01:29Drilled the ball, a second Major League double, put the Marlins up quickly.
01:34And how about the job that Austin Slater did in right field?
01:39That's his 35th Major League assist.
01:41He fired a strike to the plate, a great tag by Augustine Ramirez.
01:46And Pete Fairbanks saved the game, his 91st career save.
01:50He did that a lot with Tampa Bay.
01:51I expect to see him do the same as the Marlins, but let's get back quickly.
01:566-3, great double play.
01:576-3, 9-2, the 9-2 throw, and 2-4, the caught stealing by Augustine Ramirez.
02:03I'll tell you what, to start to finish, it was really, really good.
02:06It all starts and stops with pitching.
02:08Sandy Alcantara was brilliant in his first start of the season last night.
02:11It's an embarrassment of riches, because here comes a Yuri Perez this afternoon,
02:15making his 40th career start.
02:18Return last June, cut it off a Tommy John surgery, almost 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings in his career.
02:25Here he comes.
02:26Yeah, I think it's good.
02:27It puts a little pressure on Yuri following Sandy Alcantara and having to pitch after he pitches.
02:33How about his final two starts?
02:35Four innings at Texas had nine strikeouts in that game.
02:38And then against the Mets, five and a third.
02:40Gave up just three hits, had 11 strikeouts against the Mets.
02:44The number that really stood out to me last year, against his changeup, hitters were one for 15.
02:51That's just one for 15 against his changeup last year.
02:54Well, and I'll tell you what, we'll have more on that later, but I mean, this is really special stuff.
02:59Sandy Alcantara and Yuri Perez going back-to-back in this rotation all of 2026.
03:05All right, it was a terrific win last night.
03:07We've got to turn the page.
03:08First pitch coming up shortly, but first, when we come back, the Gold Glove winner, Javier Sonoha,
03:13will join our very own Telly Sacco.
03:25We'll join our very own Telly Sacco.
05:19I'm back here at Lone Depot Park in Miami getting a set for the middle game this weekend
05:23between the Marlins and the Colorado Rockies.
05:25Let's go downstairs.
05:26Kelly Sacco is with Javier Sonoha.
05:30Thanks so much, Kyle.
05:31Javi, moments ago the Marlins surprised you with a base from the WBC championship game.
05:37What were the emotions when they handed you the base?
05:40What were your emotions when they handed you the base?
05:43Look, I'm very happy.
05:45I remember the memories that I brought to my home and I'm happy with the organization.
05:49It's a tremendous gesture.
05:51It's going to be a very special place because it's something very beautiful for me and the
05:56most beautiful I've ever had in my career.
06:01And the gesture was such a beautiful one as well.
06:03He's so happy with it that he's going to make sure that he puts it in a really nice place
06:07in his house.
06:08They also celebrated your Gold Glove Award season.
06:12How much pride do you take in your defense?
06:15What pride do you take in your defense?
06:19He takes a lot of pride in his defense, guys, especially when guys are coming out of the
06:38bullpen and doing his best to make sure that he has their back.
06:41And, of course, he recognized his teammates as well.
06:442026 has begun.
06:45What's the goal?
06:46What's your goal?
06:47Look, I've never had a goal, but what I want and I want is that my team compete and we
06:52can
06:52experiment the playoffs.
06:55We're a very young team, but we're a lot of hunger for the playoffs.
06:58He says he never has a goal for himself, but he says the goal for the team remains the
07:02same to continue to complete and hopefully compete in the playoffs.
07:05Javi, thank you so much for the time.
07:06Congratulations.
07:07Gracias, gracias.
07:08Back to you, Kyle.
07:09All right, Kelly, thank you very much.
07:10The goal on this Saturday afternoon at Lone Depot Park.
07:13Pick up another win.
07:15It would be a series victory to open up the season.
07:18Game two from the Magic City.
07:20Sit back and relax.
07:21Let's have some fun.
07:22Marlins baseball is coming your way next.
07:30We're going to go.
07:37All right.
07:40All right.
07:41will be our last
07:47.
07:47.
07:47.
07:47.
07:48and his goal will be known for his 7th and full skills
07:52with just a 12-year-old first-year-old
07:54and his mother-in-the-old career.
07:57Game 63 years this season, losing the eights in 347,
08:02which runs 3rd in the international league.
08:05And with the two of them losing the confidence
08:07in 11 of the 16-year-old,
08:09with a slush line of 23-year-old, 400 and 435.
08:14And a little break now,
08:1630-year-old,
08:16this ball is here,
08:18and he is strong,
08:20and it was the idea of the second eight season
08:22in the third round of draw.
09:03Well, back here at Lone Depot Park.
09:05Marlins shooting for a series victory over the Colorado Rockies.
09:09Happy Saturday.
09:10Thank you for joining us.
09:112-1.
09:11Marlins winners over the Rockies last night.
09:14Let's take a look at the Game 2 middle game starting lineup
09:17for Warren Schaefer's Colorado Rockies here this evening.
09:21It'll be McCarthy, Goodman, and Castro,
09:24followed by Tovar, Rumfield, and Troy Johnston makes his first start.
09:28Brenton Doyle, Kyle Karros, and Edward Julien
09:31will round out the starting nine for Colorado.
09:34On the mound for the Marlins.
09:36It is Yuri Perez.
09:38The 22-year-old won't turn 23 until April 15th in last season.
09:43Had a 425 ERA.
09:45Those numbers are very deceiving because he had a really strong finish.
09:48Yeah, and it's really amazing when you say he's still just 22 years old.
09:53He's had a little history against the Rockies.
09:55A couple of starts at ERA of 289.
09:58Had a good start last September in Colorado.
10:02Went five innings, gave up one hit, and no runs.
10:05Had six strikeouts.
10:07So when you pitch that well at Denver, you're doing something.
10:10Here's a look at his arsenal.
10:12We'll take a look at the four-seamer,
10:14which he'll throw probably over 50% of the time.
10:18Sliders, curves, working on a change-up.
10:21Look to see a few more of those today.
10:23Arsenal, brought to you by Stackcast 3D, powered by Google Cloud.
10:27And Uri powers a fastball by Jake McCarthy to start things off here today.
10:33McCarthy was one for three last night.
10:36One of the bigger moments in the game is when Austin Slater threw him out at the plate
10:40as he waves and misses at 99.
10:42There's a chance, and sometimes Uri can get away with this.
10:48If he just stays with his fastball early on, he can get hitters out.
10:52He doesn't have to throw the kitchen sink at him, so to speak, early in the game.
10:57Sandy blew McCarthy's front doors in to start the ball game last night.
11:02Perez has got him 0-2.
11:04See ya.
11:06That's the old good morning, good afternoon, and good night, and all on heaters.
11:13Sandy's pleased at that.
11:16When you got it going, stay with it.
11:19Locate it.
11:20It's the toughest pitch to hit when you have his kind of velocity.
11:24He was underneath that ball by about a ball and a half.
11:28And McCarthy turned around and said, what on earth did I just see?
11:35Quickly one out for Uri here in the first.
11:38Here is Hunter Goodman.
11:39Had 31 homers for the Rockies last season.
11:44He was 2-4 last night, but just 0-2 lifetime against Uri Perez is Hunter Goodman.
11:55Not a lot of these Rockies have had success against Perez as Goodman lifts a fly ball.
12:02High in the air to left field for Griffin Conine who gets a start out there today.
12:06Two up and two down.
12:07Same with that fastball.
12:09That was triple digits on that last heater.
12:12Let's take a look at the defense today for the Marlins behind Uri Perez.
12:15There's Griffin Conine, Jacob Barsi, and Owen Casey.
12:20All left-handed hitters in the outfield.
12:22Grant Pawley gets the start.
12:23He's at third.
12:24Otto and X up the middle.
12:26Connor Norby.
12:27Back-to-back starts at first.
12:28And Liam Hicks behind the plate.
12:30Here is Willie Castro.
12:33You mentioned Liam Hicks.
12:35He caught seven of Uri's 20 starts last season.
12:38Augustine Ramirez caught half of him.
12:41I love the fact that he is staying with that fastball.
12:44He's thrown one changeup.
12:45Other than that, all fastballs.
12:48He has come out to play with bad intentions.
12:51And you noticed on that last one, the target was set high by Liam Hicks.
12:58And that's exactly where Uri Perez put it.
13:01So he can climb the ladder now.
13:03He can go up a little higher with the next fastball.
13:1139 career big league starts for Uri.
13:1512 career wins, 12 career losses, and a lifetime ERA of .371.
13:20He has, throughout his career, been much better at home than he has on the road.
13:25That should bode well today.
13:27In 17 career home starts, he's got a .244 ERA.
13:32And another fastball from Perez de Castro.
13:39He became the youngest pitcher in team history to debut with the Marlins at 20 years and 27 days old.
13:46A couple of years ago.
13:48Remember, Uri missed all of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
13:54Resurfaced last June.
13:56Finished strong.
13:58He's got a strong top of the first inning going as he kicks and fires an 0-2 changeup that
14:03just missed low.
14:04Just missed, but just perfect location.
14:10There's those home road splits for Uri throughout his career.
14:13A noticeable difference for whatever reason.
14:16Some guys are just more comfortable at home.
14:19On the 1-2, a swing and a miss by Willie Castro.
14:23A pair of strikeouts for a Uri in a perfect top of the first.
14:32Here, he is from the first two in the 80's this is .
14:52Here it is.
14:54A lot of work is up between 2.
14:55Metro Temple.
16:25For the Marlins as we take a look at Clayton McCullough's starting lineup.
16:28Marcy Edwards, Ramirez, Hicks Lopez, Casey, Conine Norby, and Pauly.
16:34Jacob Marcy, one for four with a double.
16:38In the opener last night, a 2-1 victory for Miami.
16:42And the Marlins today facing the veteran right-hander of 12 Major League seasons, Michael Lorenzen.
16:48Had a pretty good year last season with Kansas City.
16:50Mentioned in the top of the first, Uri Paris has been much better at home than he has on the
16:54road in his career.
16:55That same thing applied to Michael Lorenzen last year, who was awesome at Kauffman Stadium, but struggled away from it.
17:04And Kauffman Stadium, a much better park to pitch in than Coors Field.
17:09So he'll have a challenge this year at home.
17:13His first start as a Rocky in his 12th season of the Major Leagues, facing Jacob Marcy here in the
17:17bottom of the first.
17:22Let's take a look at Lorenzen's arsenal, powered by Snapcast 3D, powered by Google Cloud.
17:28And we might run out of room with all the pitches he has.
17:31He'll throw about seven different pitches as you check out the arsenal.
17:35Let's see, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
17:37There it is.
17:38He'll even use a sweeper.
17:40Strike three called on Jacob Marcy.
17:42And you could tell he thought about challenging, but he didn't pull the trigger.
17:46There's that arsenal again.
17:47Four seamer a little bit, then the sinker, but then he'll use the chains, the slider, the curve cutter, and
17:51sweeper,
17:52and strikes out his Italian teammate, Jacob Marcy, on that last pitch.
17:58How dare he?
18:00How about the scouting on Michael Lorenzen?
18:03He's versatile.
18:05He's been so over his career because he's been used as a starter and a reliever in his career.
18:12395 games, 119 starts.
18:15We'll talk a little bit about the no-hitter he pitched for the Phillies.
18:19And, yes, he was a member of Team Italy in the WBC.
18:23If you subscribe to spring training numbers, he had a 1097 ERA in the Cactus League,
18:30but he was much better when the lights were brighter.
18:33There's a look at his numbers while pitching with Team Italy in the most recent World Baseball Classic.
18:40You know, the one thing he'll remember, though, he did take the loss to Venezuela.
18:45Yeah, he gave up consecutive hits to Churio, Acuna Jr., Garcia, and Luisa Rice.
18:52See Jackson Churio broke his hand.
18:55Wow.
18:55Yeah, he's out to start the season for the Milwaukee Brewers.
19:00So, here's Xavier Edwards with nobody on and one out in the bottom of the first.
19:04X was one for four last night.
19:05He hit seventh last night, batting second today.
19:09I think you'll see that quite a bit.
19:12When the Marlins are facing lefties, he'll hit at the bottom.
19:15When facing righties, he'll hit near the top.
19:17In fact, remember last night, before the sudden departure of Christopher Murrell,
19:23who ends up on the injured list today,
19:24Edwards was actually going to be batting eighth just in front of Javier Sonoha,
19:29who went three for three.
19:32He got himself a snock last night as he waits on the 2-2,
19:37and he yanks it to first and run field.
19:39The rookies got it two away.
19:42Well, that ball was stung by Xavier.
19:44Here's the defense for the Rockies in this one today.
19:48In the outfield from left to right, Jake McCarthy.
19:51Brenton Doyle, we've talked about the two-time gold glover out there.
19:55Former Marlins, Troy Johnson starting in right.
19:58Karos, Tovar, Castro, and Rumfield around the infield,
20:01and Hunter Goodman behind the plate again.
20:05Here is Augustine Ramirez,
20:08the 21-homer man for the Marlins last year.
20:12Was 0 for 3 with a walk last night,
20:16but he had a fabulous opening night for Miami.
20:22He was really good behind the plate.
20:24Successfully challenged a couple of calls that were overturned.
20:28Threw a runner out, excuse me.
20:30And in addition, he actually put some good plate appearances
20:34and the bats together as well.
20:38Augustine waits on the 0-2,
20:40and he flies that deep down the left field line.
20:43You know, and you and I were told today,
20:46and I remember reading about it,
20:48he's put in a lot of work, too, with his defense.
20:51Put in a lot of time in the Dominican in the offseason.
20:54Quick pop time and release,
20:57and just a perfect throw.
21:00That was a big out to get Jordan Beck.
21:03Clayton McCullough, I asked him earlier today,
21:06and he said, look, it's just one game.
21:08But for all the criticism that Augustine took last year,
21:13you can absolutely believe why last night
21:16would be a nice boost for the young man.
21:18Especially behind the plate.
21:22You know he's going to hit.
21:23He had the 21-homers last year as he waits on a 1-2.
21:28Just got a piece of the Lorenzen sweeper to stay alive.
21:31Yeah, sweeper was up a little bit.
21:33He just missed it.
21:38Couple sinkers, couple change-ups,
21:40and a sweeper to Augustine from Lorenzen.
21:46And another 1-2.
21:49That'll reach the seats.
21:51Early souvenir.
21:56Even right now, right, that's six pitches.
21:59Last season, this could have been an at-bat.
22:00That lasted three or four for Augustine.
22:03But making Michael Lorenzen, the veteran right-hander,
22:07throw a few more pitches here in the first.
22:11Now 1-2.
22:12Misses low.
22:13Good eye.
22:14Talked about it last night in his first at-bat
22:17against the left-hander, Kyle Freeland.
22:20He took a 3-2 pitch to draw a walk in the first inning.
22:23Just showed some patience at the plate.
22:2918th pitch of the first inning coming here from Lorenzen.
22:35It'll require a 19th.
22:38That one, Cliff Goodman,
22:40who made 97 starts behind home plate
22:43last year for Colorado,
22:46became the first-ever Rocky to win a Silver Slugger Award.
22:55So now the 19th pitch of the first inning from Lorenzen
23:00is low.
23:01Ball three.
23:02The ninth pitch of the at-bat
23:04to Augustine.
23:06So here comes number 10.
23:12This is already, you can tell, two games in,
23:14a more mature Augustine Ramirez.
23:17He doesn't have these type of at-bats last year,
23:19and he yanks that to third.
23:21Karros has got it.
23:23Throws him out at first.
23:24And a perfect first inning for Michael Lorenzen.
23:27New Coler guard.
25:14A 10-pitch top of the first inning for Ayori Perez and a 20-pitch bottom of the first
25:21for Michael Lorenzen.
25:21Over his last two starts, Ayori's punched out 20.
25:25And notice all of the swing and miss out of the zone.
25:28Yeah, look at the changeup, the green.
25:29That's where he gets the swing and miss out of the zone.
25:33Also with the slider, the yellow, but a lot of the four seamers in the zone that he's
25:38able just to blow by hitters.
25:404-5-6, Tovar, Rumfield, and Johnston for the Rockies here in the second.
25:47And there's a sweeper from Ayori, a pitch he's trying to become more confident in.
25:51You know, I think this is interesting, Hunt, and I would love to get your take.
25:55Third season, why has he had more success against lefties than he has righties as Tovar powers
26:03one deep to left field.
26:04Conine's going back on the track, and he's got just enough room to reel it in.
26:09A righty almost punched it out, and there's one away.
26:12You know, I think to answer that, we saw the success of a sweeper, which he hasn't had.
26:18And I think if he has that sweeper working for him, he'll have much more success against
26:23right-handed hitters, where in the past he hasn't had that pitch.
26:26Kind of similar to who he would refer to as his big brother in Sandy Alcantara, who he
26:31had a front row seat to watch last night, just rifle through the Rockies on 73 pitches
26:38and seven innings of work.
26:39Yeah, and Sandy will talk about Uri that way.
26:42He'll say, he's not like a friend.
26:44He's like my little brother.
26:47And like Nelly said on the pregame show, his little brother's about three inches taller.
26:51Here's the 0-1 to T.J.
26:53Rumfield, who made his Major League debut last night, becoming the first Rocky to debut
26:58on opening day since Trevor Story.
27:00We told you that since 2016.
27:03Really an amazing note that for as young as this ball club has been and for all their
27:07struggles, they haven't had a young guy debut on opening day until T.J.
27:12Rumfield since Trevor Story last night.
27:15Big shoes to fill.
27:17All the great years Todd Helton had at first base for the Rockies.
27:24Their future is contingent upon a lot of young guys.
27:28Rumfield in the air, deep right center field.
27:31You can forget about this one.
27:33T.J.
27:33Rumfield has given the Rockies their first lead of the season.
27:37And he's got his first big league homer.
27:43And that was his calling card.
27:45Yeah, you don't always equate spring training numbers with what's going to happen, but he
27:49had five home runs in in the spring.
27:51He led the Rockies.
27:52That's one of the things they like about this big left-handed hitter.
27:55And I think you saw it right there on that fastball.
27:59He was not fooled and it didn't get by him at all.
28:06Head on the ball, solid swing, good extension.
28:12Challenged him with a 98-mile-an-hour heater.
28:16Troy Johnston yanks one foul.
28:21It's a swing he'll never forget.
28:26It's a big boy.
28:27Kind of towers over everybody in that dugout.
28:29He has first hit last night.
28:31His first home run.
28:35Here's an 0-1 from A. Uri to Troy Johnston.
28:38He lifts this deep down the right field line, hooking towards the pole and foul.
28:43By a matter of a couple of feet.
28:47Troy looking out towards left field, but as soon as that ball went foul,
28:52he kind of glanced over towards that Marlins dugout.
28:54You can be sure he's thinking about a little bit of revenge this weekend.
29:02Nice to see Troy yesterday catch up.
29:04He and his family and his baby are doing well.
29:07Made his Major League debut on July 29th in St. Louis last year.
29:11Collected a hit.
29:12Marlins fans might recall it.
29:14His first Major League at-bat.
29:16Was it against Sonny Gray?
29:18I believe it was.
29:19Yeah.
29:20Into right field.
29:23It was a long time coming.
29:25Troy spent a long, long time in the minor leagues.
29:31He was one of four Marlins last year to record a hit in their Major League debut.
29:37And now time is called by Liam Hicks.
29:41That'll waste a mound visit.
29:42He'll chat with Uri with more on Uri.
29:44Let's go down to Kelly.
29:45Hey, Kyle.
29:46While I was talking to Marlins pitching coach Daniel Moskis,
29:48I asked him what he wants Uri to focus on this season.
29:52He said it's three main things.
29:53One, execution.
29:54Two, his changeup.
29:55He loves the confidence he's seeing in that pitch.
29:57And three, is throwing his breaking balls harder.
29:59He said over spring, each of his breaking balls are up to almost two miles per hours
30:04higher than it was last spring.
30:07He credits that to several different variables.
30:09One, including this offseason was targeted towards training
30:13opposed to getting healthy like last year.
30:14He also focused specifically on throwing those breaking balls harder.
30:19And lastly, it's the confidence and trust he now has in his elbow and his arm again.
30:24All right, Kelly.
30:26Organizationally, top to bottom, it's bigger, faster, stronger.
30:30Swing and a miss.
30:32Uri gets Johnson with a curveball.
30:34He's got his third strikeout of the afternoon.
30:38See, now's the time.
30:39We talked about it in the first inning, all the fastballs.
30:41But when you see some hitters locked in and have swings on the fastball,
30:47now you start to mix it up.
30:51By Uri to get the strikeout.
30:53Have a nice bounce back after the rumfield homer.
30:56Here is Bretton Doyle.
30:58That was a hard sweeper.
31:00That looked more like a cutter.
31:03Sweeper at 86 miles an hour had a little bit more bite than some of the other ones we've seen.
31:11So here is Doyle, who hit .233 last year.
31:14He is a terrific center fielder.
31:16He can really go get it.
31:18Really the kind of guy the Rockies need in center field, at Coors Field in particular.
31:23And he was really good in the second half.
31:26He hit .202 in the first half last year and hit .282 in the second half.
31:31Can't catch up to that slider.
31:32I think the last time the Rockies had a center fielder that covered that kind of ground, his name was
31:38Juan Pierre.
31:39I think you're right.
31:47He's going to fire on the 2-1, and Doyle went around.
31:49It's 2-2.
31:53This was Doyle's bugaboo last year.
31:56He really struggled against righties, and he tormented lefties.
32:00And he's getting one of the more nasty righties in baseball here today.
32:02Yeah, they had a couple of guys in their lineup with a lot of swing and miss, a lot of
32:06strikeouts.
32:082-2.
32:09Comet missed low.
32:11Liam Hicks tried to frame that puppy.
32:13That was down near his shoelaces.
32:16It's habitual now with catchers, but you can't frame it into ABS.
32:23He's got to catch it.
32:26From 1-2 to 3-2.
32:29And that misses.
32:31And again, Liam Hicks tried to stick the landing.
32:33No challenge in a two-out walk.

32:55I can tell you we will have 157 of the 162 broadcasts for you this season.
33:01Doyle takes off.
33:02Here's the throw to second from Hicks.
33:04It's not in time.
33:05Doyle can really burn.
33:07He was 18 for 20 in stolen base attempts, and he is now 71 for 83 lifetime in his career.
33:13Well, we saw a couple of attempts, one throw out last night in the game against Sandy.
33:18They'll do the same against Uri.
33:20You know, when you're 6'8", it's hard to unwind.
33:25And so that base stolen off Uri.
33:30ABS challenge powered by T-Mobile.
33:32This is a caveat we can talk about.
33:35I know there's two outs.
33:36He had a stolen base, and at the same time, Liam Hicks challenged the call.
33:41Let's say the Rockies wanted to challenge that call at second base.
33:46ABS takes priority.
33:48Nothing can happen until after there is a successful or non-successful ABS challenge.
33:53And I think that's really a good part of the ABS system because so many times when a catcher comes
33:59up to try to get a pitch and throw a runner out, he blocks the umpire.
34:07So, instead of it being 1-1, now it's 0-2.
34:10Liam Hicks trying to flip the script here in the second.
34:12That misses.
34:15A couple crucial moments last night.
34:18Again, mentioned Augustine Ramirez catching.
34:20Flipped a couple of calls.
34:21Huge.
34:22Really, really big.
34:23Very important times of the game.
34:28And Liam Hicks stealing a strike here in the second.
34:31Did Karros lay off?
34:33He did.
34:36Your umpiring crew today, Rob Drake, is the home plate umpire.
34:40Jordan Baker was fabulous behind the plate last night.
34:44Junior Valentine is at second.
34:46Stu Sherwater is at first.
34:49Saw this morning, Jordan Baker was really good.
34:52He called a great game.
34:53A couple of calls overturned, but in large part, just terrific.
35:01Now a 2-2.
35:03Misses low.
35:07That one was low.
35:08And by the way, I guarantee those umpires go to that site, too.
35:12100%.
35:14That is such a hard job.
35:16They do such a good job.
35:17And ABS is going to help them just a little bit more.
35:20Jordan Baker last night, for all intents and purposes,
35:22when it was all said and done, and with a couple of overturns,
35:25nearly called the perfect game.
35:273-2 right there.
35:29Called strike.
35:30A couple of more strikeouts for Uri.
35:32Rockies are on the board.
35:46year間 evoluted.
35:46A couple of times to add a hundred times to that game enough to go on.
35:47There's another game.
35:51Lapisi will build up football in elite race.
35:52You won't learn, and you will be all playing again.
35:52Way to win, you will not mind.
35:52You won't win, you haven't survived.
35:52You can do whatever you want for allstate shit or you areد' us.
35:53You rice.
35:54All at all times, you got four laps.
35:55You're good.
36:01You have to know what I mean.
37:17Presented by Werner Hoffman Gregg and Garcia.
37:21Now, there's a little chance of rain, so we couldn't pop the top again at Lone Depot Park today, but
37:27it's pretty nice out there on the beach.
37:30Liam Hicks, Otto Lopez, and Owen Casey will bat for Miami in the second.
37:37A T.J. Rumfield homer has staked the Rockies to an early 1-0 lead.
37:42Liam Hicks, one of five true lefties, as he bounces that wide at first.
37:49And then you've got the switch hitting Edwards in the starting lineup today.
37:53So Clayton McCullough deploying all of his lefties and his switch hitter, leaving four righties on the bench.
37:59You know, Liam Hicks quietly filled a lot of roles last year.
38:05He started 49 times behind the plate.
38:08He started 23 games at first base, and he started 20 games as the D.H.
38:14He waits on an 0-1 offering here from Lorenzen, and that hit him.
38:20Caught him on that right elbow guard, I believe.
38:23And the Marlins have the leadoff man aboard.
38:25They've got their first base runner of the game.
38:27Well, Christopher Murrell is sidelined for four to six weeks.
38:31That's unfortunate.
38:32Folks were excited to see him.
38:33So Davison De Los Santos has been recalled from AAA Jacksonville.
38:39This young man led all the minor league baseball a couple of years ago with 40 homers.
38:43He's got prodigious power, but he strikes out a lot.
38:46It sounds like, and maybe as early as tomorrow, Davison is going to start and make his major league debut
38:53at first base.
38:55You know, when you think about it, he's the only real true first baseman on the ball club.
39:03Yeah.
39:05You've got Liam Hicks who can play over there, Connor Norby, Graham Pauley, Griffin Conine,
39:10but Davison is the only true first baseman.
39:12You're right.
39:13This is a high chopper.
39:15Tough play for Karros.
39:16He'll go down to second, and they'll get one there, but that's all.
39:21Hicks is out.
39:22On a fielder's choice force out that goes 5-4.
39:26Yeah, we talked about Michael Lorenzen throwing the no-hitter with the Phillies.
39:29It's really interesting because he'd been traded from the Tigers to the Phillies.
39:34His first start for Philadelphia was right here against the Barlins.
39:39He went eight innings, gave up six hits in just two runs.
39:42His second start in Philly threw a no-hitter against Washington.
39:48He, at times, has been a tough egg to crack in his career.
39:52You know, when you were talking about his arsenal, and he has, indeed, seven different pitches,
39:57and there's a look at some of those home road splits in his career versus Miami,
40:00he utilized those seven pitches at least 150 times apiece last year.
40:06That's hard.
40:07You just don't know what's coming.
40:08Yeah, and every once in a while, he can get to 94, 95.
40:13The tough part for Lorenzen as a Philly, though, after that no-hitter,
40:18his next nine games, his ERA was over eight.
40:20Yeah.
40:21That is tough.
40:23There is Owen Casey.
40:25And there is Ball, too.
40:27And as someone told me, most Philly fans won't remember the no-hitter.
40:31They'll remember the eight ERA.
40:32I think you're probably right.
40:34Here's what he's thrown so far today.
40:35He has already used seven different pitches against Miami.
40:40Number four to Owen Casey.
40:42Hits the knees for a strike.
40:43It's two and two.
40:44That was a change-up that time.
40:46A hard guy to prepare for as a hitter.
40:48Oh, no question.
40:49Because you don't know when he's going to throw a particular pitch.
40:55And in addition to throwing seven different pitches,
40:58he's been at this for 12 years now.
41:00He knows what to do.
41:03On the 2-2, Casey yanks that into right field.
41:07Troy Johnston is over.
41:08He's not going to get there.
41:09Bounces right off the Baja blast side.
41:11Stopping at third is Otto Lopez.
41:13Owen Casey's got his second double in as many games for Miami.
41:22Well, we mentioned the big double for Owen Casey last night was his second Major League double.
41:27There's a little spinner that lays out over the plate.
41:31It didn't have that sharp break.
41:33Owen Casey head down on the ball and just rakes it into right field.
41:37You know, in other circumstances, if the ball's not hit so hard,
41:42Otto Lopez might have a chance to score, but that ball was hit very hard.
41:45Bolden opportunity for Griffin Conine, who waves and misses at a curveball.
41:50I was looking on Twitter after the ball game last night.
41:53Major League Baseball posted a highlight of Owen Casey's.
41:57Peter Bendix doesn't need any validation, but Cubs fans were going nuts.
42:02Why do we get rid of him?
42:04There's ball one to Griffin.
42:09Griffin came off the bench late last night, got a pinch hit opportunity,
42:12and then they used his strong arm in the outfield down the stretch.
42:17Opening night, 2-1 victory for the Marlins, capped off by a Pete Fairbanks save.
42:22Griffin has a very good eye as that changeup missed outside.
42:25Yeah, we saw that ever since Griffin Conine has put on a Marlins uniform.
42:32Very good plate discipline.
42:35He's got reverse splits.
42:36He has in his career been better against lefties than righties,
42:40and he can't catch up to that changeup.
42:42He was floating too far away from him.
42:44Now it's 3-2, or 2-2.
42:45What gets Griffin in trouble a little bit, and he knows it, he works on it,
42:49is that sometimes that swing gets a little long.
42:55Second and third, one out.
42:571-0 Rockies in the second.
42:59What a block by Goodman.
43:00The count is full.
43:04He is some kind of catcher behind the plate for Colorado.
43:07Made 97 starts back there last year.
43:14Curve ball going at the feet of Griffin, then it bounces back the other way.
43:20This will be the sixth pitch that Conine will see
43:24as he waits on the 3-2.
43:28Swing and a miss.
43:29He went back to the well and went right back to the changeup.
43:35Let's step aside, get you a quick word here from FPL.
43:39At FPL, our teams are working every day
43:41because reliability isn't an option, it's a commitment.
43:45FDL, working for you every single day.
43:49It was a strong opening night for Connor Norby.
43:52He was 2-4-3 with a double, played a good first base, and he got hit.
43:57That's the second hit batter of the inning for Lorenzen.
44:00That'll load him for Graham Pauley.
44:06Changeup got away from him.
44:07Yeah, it did, and once it got away, all Connor does is just kind of turn.
44:12Catches him up in the hip area.
44:16Good place to get it.
44:22So, a good changeup to strike out Griffin Conine, a bad changeup to hit Connor Norby.
44:28So, bases loaded for Graham Pauley, who hit 2-24 last year.
44:33Changeup missed outside.
44:34Ball one on Graham, who did come on as a defensive replacement last night in the ninth inning.
44:4062 games for Graham last year.
44:43Dealt with some injuries.
44:45Batting for the first time this season.
44:47Base is loaded.
44:48There's strike one.
44:54Marlins making Michael Lorenzen work.
44:57His next offering will be his 39th.
45:04Graham Pauley's in his third season.
45:06Ground ball, right side.
45:07Rumfield has got it.
45:09Throws it to Lorenzen.
45:10He's got it.
45:10The inning is over.
45:11Marlins leave him loaded.
45:13Still 1-0, Rockies.
45:43How many games are called?
47:20Congratulations to Mike Trout as Edward Julian bounces one into shallow right throw to first Edwards nicely done one away.
47:29But Mike Trout though hot we've forgotten about baseball needs I think Mike Mike Trout to come back and have
47:37a tremendous year.
47:39He's he's back playing center field too if you've noticed yeah so home runs in each of his first two
47:45games and how about the Angels 2-0 against the Astros.
47:50Back to the top of the top of the order.
47:52Here's Jake McCarthy.
47:56I've got one more note for you couldn't believe it told you earlier would love to share it with the
47:59audience it pertains to the Seattle Mariners who won last night they're one and one to start the year.
48:05That's ripped towards first.
48:07Oh yeah.
48:07Right now Connor Norby is saying you know they say third base is the hot corner.
48:15That's because you have to play in a little bit more that's because you have to play in a little
48:18bit more.
48:18Look at the expression.
48:19Look at the reaction.
48:22Pick it.
48:23Got his feet set.
48:24That's what you have to do as an infielder.
48:26Always a little hop.
48:28Always describe it as a tennis player receiving a serve get yourself ready he's ready and picks it.
48:36This is more important really interesting note from Connor Norby last night.
48:41He he's the one hard time for him at first is you know how much range does he need to
48:46have.
48:46He got some really good advice from Xavier Edwards who's never even played first for but he said hey just
48:52play first base like you're playing second.
48:54I thought that was very interesting yeah a lot of guys do different things look at they're both hopping at
49:00the same time they're in sequence they could go to Radio City they'll be close next weekend yes.
49:12Auditioning Connor also told me before the game the range that he has at first the way he's looking at
49:17it if he knows if he dove and he couldn't get it don't go after it he said get back
49:22to the bag that's how he's looking at it over there.
49:24Well it'll take good communication too between him and Xavier second baseman has to let you know.
49:31And he also acknowledged he has a second baseman here in Miami and Xavier Edwards who has some of the
49:36best range in baseball.
49:41It's a toolsy infield Graham Pauley could win a gold glove at third you know Lopez and Edwards are strong
49:46up the middle and now Connor Norby all of a sudden apparently very shorthanded at first.
49:51He's equated himself quite well you know there'll be some plays that he'll struggle with because a lot of times
50:03you're not sure where to go cutoff plays maybe footwork around the bag on throws throw from the catcher.
50:11He did receive a throw pretty well last night from Augustine three balls and two strikes the count on Hunter
50:22Goodman got him filthy eater at ninety nine and a perfect third for you Yuri.
50:41Allen⁴
50:41Damn Damn
50:41Damn
50:58Damn
51:00Damn
51:02Damn
52:08Welcome back to Lone Depot Park.
52:11The Rockies lead the Marlins here in the bottom of the third.
52:13I am joined by one of the newest members of this 2026 roster.
52:17It's Austin Slayer who was thrown right into the fire on opening day, getting the start
52:21in right field and also leading off.
52:24Just what were your first impressions on your new team?
52:25I mean, guys came out with great energy.
52:29Sandy was unbelievable.
52:30And it's always good to get the first one under the belt the first game.
52:35So, you know, you got to keep it rolling here.
52:38You showed off the cannon in the fourth inning, gunning down a guy at the plate.
52:43Take us through that play.
52:44Yeah.
52:46The batter hit it pretty hard.
52:48I was a little surprised that McCarthy went.
52:52But luckily, I was able to have a throw on target.
52:56And I'm glad they sent him.
52:58I'm able to get a free out.
52:59Not starting today.
53:00So tell us, just when you're on the bench, how do you stay prepared for when you get called?
53:04Yeah.
53:05I think it's just building a routine.
53:06You know, for me, this is something I've done quite a bit in my career.
53:10And usually go down, start getting loose in the fourth, depending on the pitch count.
53:14And then start working on the machines and be ready for whatever spot they need me in.
53:20Austin, before we let you go, joining a team so late, how do you go about getting accustomed
53:25and getting to know your new teammates?
53:27Yeah.
53:27I think it's usually something that takes a little time.
53:29But, you know, we've got a great young group, a lot of energy, a lot of jokes.
53:36So it's been pretty easy so far.
53:38And I'm looking forward to continuing it.
53:40Austin, thanks so much for the time.
53:41Welcome to Miami.
53:42Of course.
53:43Back up to you, Kyle, Tommy.
53:44All right, Kelly, thank you very much.
53:46Very nice young man, Austin Slater.
53:48He's been in the big leagues for a long time.
53:50It's a ball and two strikes.
53:53Jacob Marcy.
53:55Austin Slater said he was surprised McCarthy ran.
53:58Oh, man, apparently we need a permit for this gun in right field.
54:01Yeah, how about that?
54:02He has a license to carry, though.
54:04I know that.
54:04It's a perfect throw.
54:07And a great catch and tag, too, by Augustine Ramirez.
54:11Don't forget about that.
54:13Chopper to the right side.
54:14Runfield's got it.
54:15The feed to Lorenzen is true.
54:17There's one away.
54:18The one thing about Michael Lorenzen, he's a terrific athlete.
54:22His junior year at Cal State Fullerton, where he was drafted in the first round by the Reds out of
54:29Cal State Fullerton.
54:30His junior year, he hit .335, had seven home runs, 54 RBIs, oh, and 19 saves and an ERA under
54:40two.
54:44Terrific athlete.
54:48He's also the only pitcher in Major League Baseball that has taken skateboarding shoes and attached the metal spikes to
54:55the bottom of them.
54:57He wears Vans when he pitches.
54:59Just Southern California guy.
55:01You know, if you're SoCal, you got the Vans.
55:04Look at those.
55:05Come on now.
55:10It's pretty sweet.
55:11He's got them custom made, so there's a little bit more cushion on the bottom.
55:25It's a unique look.
55:27The jersey fits him well, too.
55:28It's a little tight up top.
55:29He does not miss any days in the weight room.
55:34Yeah, he has, he has not missed arm day in a while.
55:471.30, Jose Quintana versus Mac.
55:50That jet is richtig along, you see, so he's at a backline.
55:501.30, Jose Quintana versus Mac.
