00:00Tobias tough shot.
00:01Mrs. Durin had to get it up with the clock.
00:04Just short.
00:0597 one.
00:06It's opening day for the Tigers are on the road against the Padres or talk a lot of baseball
00:10today.
00:11Ballpark food.
00:12McGonagall, the team expectations.
00:14We had the Tigers offensive line or the Lions offensive line move that we wanted to hit
00:18on here.
00:19Yeah, and it is Ben Bartsch who was with San Francisco last year.
00:26He's a guard.
00:26He's played both left and right guard, and basically the statement was it creates more
00:33competition with Mahogany, Scruggs, Miles Frazier, and now Ben Bartsch, and it creates some more
00:41depth in case, God forbid, something were to happen to Rattledge.
00:46You could talk more about his play.
00:48I want to talk about his nickname.
00:50Yeah.
00:52Because apparently there's a backstory to it.
00:55So his nickname is Smoothie King.
00:57Smoothie King.
00:58Okay.
00:58And not like the popular restaurant.
01:00Is he an investor?
01:02Right.
01:02No, apparently, and this is a tale as old as time, he needed to gain some weight as a
01:07young offensive lineman, originally a tight end.
01:10Oh, okay.
01:10Yeah.
01:11Uh-huh.
01:11I followed that process.
01:12And he has a famous smoothie recipe where he gained damn near 80 pounds.
01:19Oh, wow.
01:19The smoothie consisted of seven scrambled eggs to avoid salmonella, a tub of cottage cheese,
01:26grits, peanut butter, bananas, and red Gatorade.
01:31Famous for his smoothies.
01:33So you've got the scrambled eggs and a cottage cheese.
01:40All right.
01:41I'm all in.
01:42And what else was in there?
01:43Banana.
01:44Banana, peanut butter, grits, and red Gatorade.
01:47God, that sounds amazing, actually.
01:49I don't know that I'm all in on the red Gatorade being in there.
01:53I would need a little chocolate flavor.
01:57Oh, with the bananas and peanut butter?
01:59Sure.
01:59Yeah.
02:00We've got the, what do they call that, the chocolate monkey?
02:03I have no idea.
02:04It's banana.
02:05You do like chocolate milk instead of red Gatorade.
02:08I would.
02:08Yes, I would.
02:09Or just some chocolate syrup.
02:11Okay.
02:13But I understand putting the red Gatorade.
02:15I'd try that.
02:15That sounds actually pretty good.
02:17Did you have something like this when you bulked up from tight end to tackle?
02:22So nutrition has taken a turn for the better.
02:27Because I came in at tight end.
02:28I reported a 240 as a freshman.
02:31He was 240.
02:32He got up to 308.
02:33Yeah.
02:34And so by the time Christmas rolled around, spring ball, I went from 240 in August to January and February
02:44before spring balls to around 300 pounds.
02:47So I put on 60 pounds.
02:48But mine was, you know, they talk about the freshman 15.
02:52Mine was obviously the freshman 60.
02:54And it was pretty much all cottage in pizza.
02:59Chicken wings.
03:00Some pizza bobs in there as well.
03:04And I would call their shakes smoothies.
03:06Right?
03:06Why not?
03:08Chocolate, chocolate chip smoothie.
03:10Every once in a while, throw a banana in there for nutritional value.
03:14That's where, because nutrition at that time, we weren't sitting there talking about, well, you've got to have this many
03:20grams of protein.
03:21You've got to have this.
03:22You can't have complex carbs.
03:24John, what were your macros on that diet?
03:25Well, I would go with Budweiser versus Bud Light.
03:33That was my macros.
03:35There you go.
03:38Hey, we said someone likes this Lions Free Agent class.
03:42Yeah.
03:43And I was curious, because I did see this as well.
03:47Ben Solak, who writes for ESPN.
03:52And I'll just let you know, I'm going to read this, and I'll tell you right away.
03:56All right.
03:56He ranks them as the third best free agent class.
04:01And we have been talking for weeks how we've been a little disappointed, a little underwhelmed with this free agent
04:07class.
04:07And here's what he has to say in regards to, here's what he loved.
04:11The dart throws.
04:13Detroit has more needs than it has money to throw around, but it did extremely well to take high upside
04:18swings in the margins.
04:20Which we've identified that.
04:22Pacheco can't be 100% of what David Montgomery was for them, but the Lions don't want that anymore.
04:26They want a capable short yardage pass protecting back to relieve Jameer Gibbs, and they got that for near the
04:32veteran minimum.
04:33They also talk about Cade Mays, $8 million per year in a season that the center market was exploding.
04:38Wanham, ideally a number three edge, which we've talked about as well, instead of a number two option.
04:43But opposite Aiden Hutchins, he can fill Alquadeen's shoes.
04:49And then a corner where he talks about McQuarrie, can start the season if he's healthy as well.
04:54And then what he didn't love, and I agree with this as well, left tackle.
04:59Larry Borum is a good swing backup, which I'm sure you've got to love.
05:02He's a swinger.
05:03But the Lions don't want to live in a world where he starts 17 games on Jared Goff's blind side.
05:09Correct.
05:10Now, I think if that's the case, if they don't get the tackle that they want in free agency,
05:15Penny Sewell goes to left, Larry Borum goes to right.
05:18And we talked more about that as well.
05:20So those are the pros, the cons of how he views this.
05:25But he viewed it as the third best, and it was only behind the San Francisco 49ers,
05:31who obviously got Mike Evans on a team-friendly deal, and Pittsburgh, who ended up signing
05:38Michael Pittman Jr., Rico Dowdle, Jamal Dean, Jaquan Brisker, Sebastian Joseph Day, and Asante
05:45Samuel Jr.
05:47And they have yet to figure out who their quarterback's going to be.
05:52Everything he said is true.
05:55Correct.
05:56How he got them up to number three is where I disagree.
06:00But it all comes down to what you thought the objectives of this offseason are.
06:03If the objective is, we're broke.
06:06We've got to get value.
06:08We've got to get guys with upside.
06:09We have to win on the margins.
06:11Did a damn good job.
06:12But it's the financial constraints that are handcuffs you put on yourself.
06:18Then, yeah, sure, you did great.
06:20Because you handcuffed yourself, and this was the only way to move forward.
06:22And they absolutely nailed the margins.
06:26Our objective was, hey, you missed the playoffs last year.
06:30Even if you get in, are you good enough to win a Super Bowl?
06:32Did you do enough in free agency to get starting caliber, not just bodies, impact guys?
06:39And they didn't.
06:39So I have a hard time feeling like this is a good offseason.
06:43A good free agency, anyway.
06:44We'll see how the rest of it goes.
06:46Right, yeah.
06:46Yeah, the offseason grade won't come until we get to fall camp.
06:50Where did he have, like, I thought the Rams were aggressive in addressing their biggest need.
06:54He has them 12th.
06:55They added McDuffie and Watson.
06:57They added Cam Curl at safety.
06:59He said he loved the fearlessness.
07:01The one thing he didn't love is they didn't do anything at receiver.
07:03They have Puka and Devontae Adams.
07:06If Puka is available.
07:08Oh, okay.
07:08Well, at least he'll be available.
07:10He's not being charged.
07:12He's being sued.
07:13But it's two different philosophies, right?
07:14He likes the Lions because of value.
07:17Well, you've got to love that.
07:18But I think the Rams did a better job getting impactful players to close the gap and win a championship.
07:24I would agree with that.
07:26And obviously McCreary was a trade.
07:28But he's using, he's a key acquisitions along with returning players.
07:33Actually, the team I thought did the best.
07:35Now, I don't know that they take a huge jump is the Raiders.
07:39Obviously, signing Tyler Linderbaum.
07:40And they did this all thinking that they were going to have this, all this cap space because Max Crosby
07:46was gone.
07:47They added those players.
07:48And now they got Max Crosby back.
07:50They found a way to manage the cap.
07:51And I don't think they go from worst to first.
07:55I think they are going to be much improved depending on how well their rookie quarterback will play.
