Lions are going 14-3?
Transcript
00:00All right, so did you happen to catch Connor Orr on Sports Illustrated's entire NFL season
00:09prediction game by game?
00:11I did not.
00:12Okay.
00:14He goes through the entire schedule and predicts every game.
00:18Don't look it up.
00:19I'm not.
00:20Okay, good.
00:2217-game schedule, what do you think he had the Lions at?
00:3011-6.
00:3111-6.
00:33Kang, what about you?
00:34What do you think he had the Lions at?
00:36I will agree with that, Gator.
00:3711-6.
00:39Okay.
00:39I'm going to work my way through it game by game.
00:43Are you ready, my friend?
00:45Here we go.
00:46Well, give me a second.
00:52I just lost the page.
00:53One moment, please.
00:54He's quite an undertaking doing absolutely every game of the season,
00:59but you figure somebody's got to do it.
01:03And Connor Orr, Sports Illustrated, was the one who did it.
01:06And all right, you ready?
01:07Here we go.
01:08Detroit Lions, 11 games, game by game.
01:15Opener against New Orleans, win.
01:17At Buffalo, week two, loss.
01:20Home against the Jets, win.
01:22At Carolina, win.
01:24At Arizona, win.
01:27Stop me when you want to make a comment.
01:30Yeah, no.
01:30You too, Kang.
01:31Sounds about right.
01:32Week six is the bye.
01:33Week seven, Green Bay at home, win.
01:37We'll see.
01:37I think so.
01:38Week eight, Minnesota at home, loss.
01:42At home, they're going to lose to Minnesota.
01:43Okay.
01:44Week nine, at Miami, win.
01:46Week 10, New England at home, win.
01:49Week 11, Tampa at home.
01:51I'm sorry.
01:51Go back to that.
01:52Was that New England?
01:52New England at home, win.
01:54Okay.
01:56Week 11, Tampa at home, win.
01:58Week 12, Chicago at home, win.
02:00Week 13, at Atlanta, win.
02:02Week 14.
02:03Slow down.
02:04Yep.
02:05So, he has them with two losses at this point.
02:07Is that correct?
02:08At this point, he's got them at 10 and 2.
02:10Okay.
02:12Week 14, Tennessee at home, win.
02:14Week 15, at Minnesota, win.
02:16Week 16, the Giants, win.
02:18Week 17, at Chicago, win.
02:21Week 18, at Green Bay, loss.
02:24With arresting everyone at that point.
02:26Right.
02:26I mean, they ran away with the NFC.
02:28Exactly.
02:28They don't have to.
02:29I mean, you're 14 and 2 going into that last week of the season.
02:32You don't need to play anybody.
02:33Well, let me just take a look because, I mean, yeah.
02:41Yeah.
02:42That's just why I went to see.
02:43What is it, the Rams finishing?
02:44Here's why.
02:45I went to see if they had clinched the top seed in the NFC.
02:49By the time they got to the last game, he's got the Rams going into the last week at 12
02:55and 4.
02:56So they will have clinched the NFC.
02:59Here are your NFC seeds.
03:01Otherwise, it'd be 15 and 2.
03:04All right.
03:06The number one seed is the Lions at 14 and 3.
03:10The number two seed is the Rams at 13 and 4.
03:13The number three seed is the Cowboys at 12 and 5.
03:16The number four seed, and this is important because it aligns potentially with Detroit
03:21at their first playoff game.
03:23The number four seed is the Panthers at 10 and 7.
03:27The number five seed, the first wildcard team is Seattle at 11 and 6.
03:32The number six seed is the Packers at 10 and 7.
03:35And the number seven seed is the 49ers also at 10 and 7.
03:38So here's my question.
03:44Connor Orr has them at 14 and 3.
03:48Is this more fantasy or more fact?
03:53If you think about what you think they're going to be.
03:57Right.
03:58So in order for me to do that, I'm looking.
04:00Okay, it's three wins over my total.
04:01So do I think it's more possible for them to go 14 and 3,
04:05or is it more possible for them to go 8 and 9?
04:08Yeah.
04:08I guess is the way I'd look at it.
04:11Three wins or three over?
04:12Three wins over or three wins less?
04:15I mean, to get to three wins less,
04:17there'd be an injury to the quarterback, I think.
04:22So you don't want to think about that,
04:24but that's how they get to three wins less.
04:26Otherwise, I don't think they get to three wins less.
04:29Three wins more than 11?
04:31My God, lots of things have to go right for them.
04:33I mean, that's...
04:35The people who are...
04:36I'm sure there's people who are going to scream,
04:38no way with this defense.
04:39Like, no way with this defense.
04:40Yeah, I mean, it's a big thing, right?
04:42The secondary is completely unproven.
04:45We don't know how healthy they're going to be or stay.
04:49You know, the good report about Brian Branch, I guess,
04:52is he's cutting and he's running,
04:54but we don't know when he's going to come back.
04:56But that's good news.
05:01I think that's more...
05:04It feels like every game you win over, like...
05:08I think 11's a good total.
05:09Everything you win over that is almost like compounded.
05:11Like, that's really...
05:13That's really...
05:1412 wins?
05:15That's saying a lot.
05:1613 wins?
05:17That's saying a lot.
05:1814 wins?
05:19In a 17-game schedule, it just seems unrealistic
05:22because of the injury factor.
05:25Everybody gets hurt.
05:26Be able to stay that...
05:27To win 14 games, you've got to stay healthy.
05:30And I have questions on the defense.
05:32I think it's more fantasy than reality.
05:34Kang, what do you think?
05:36Yeah, I think it's more fantasy than...
05:38What was the other word you used?
05:39Fact.
05:40Yeah, more than fact.
05:41There's just too many things that have to go right.
05:43Even with this, quote-unquote, soft schedule they have.
05:46Obviously, the injuries is the ultimate X factor in all this.
05:50But the other stuff is,
05:51we don't know how the offensive line is going to gel.
05:54Just like last year on paper,
05:56it looks like it could be okay.
05:57But you don't know.
05:58You mentioned the secondary already with two new starters,
06:01probably week one with the safeties.
06:03We don't know who's going to start opposite.
06:05DJ Reed, the other corner.
06:07Brand new offensive coordinator.
06:09If things go very well,
06:11I think 14-3 could happen.
06:13I just find it highly unlikely
06:14if I had to pick between 14-3 and 8-9.
06:168-9 is more likely.
06:18You know, the thing about this is
06:21it's one man's opinion.
06:23Take it for what it's worth.
06:26So much is predicated on thinking they have a soft schedule.
06:29Yep.
06:30Which is a dangerous trap.
06:32I think that there is probably three or four teams in the NFC alone
06:36that if they had the Lions schedule,
06:39people would be saying that about them.
06:40Rams, Cowboys, Seahawks, maybe the Packers.
06:45I think what's interesting about this is
06:47he doesn't have the Bears making the postseason.
06:50And, you know, he's got Chicago finishing 10-7
06:54and missing out on the playoffs.
06:56Tiebreakers with Green Bay and San Francisco.
07:00You don't think Ben Johnson saw this, do you?
07:05He's going to have more fuel for that chip on the shoulder there in Chicago?
07:09Maybe.
07:10We do want to hear from the people, though.
07:11Is anybody with Connor Orr?
07:13Is anybody this chesty?
07:16And what would you base it on?
07:1914-3 with losses coming to at Buffalo in week two,
07:25which we could totally see.
07:27Minnesota at home in week eight, which is interesting.
07:31And a meaningless game at Green Bay in week 18.
07:36Why would he have Minnesota?
07:37Why would he have them losing at home
07:38but winning on the road against Minnesota?
07:43Seems kind of weird.
07:44It's kind of weird.
07:44You're going to split the game.
07:45You think that you're going to lose the game on the road
07:48and win the game at home.
07:49Yeah, but, I mean, you know,
07:50things happen in the course of a season that don't make sense.
07:54Maybe there's a quarterback change in Minnesota.
07:57Maybe Brosmore's starting.
07:58They can't beat him.
07:59That's true.
07:59Okay, so he didn't do this without some sort of validation.
08:02He gives his reasons why.
08:05So, coming up, we'll get into those.
08:07There's something about the Lions that knew
08:09that he absolutely loves.
08:11He says, don't doubt this guy.
08:14Oh.
08:14And says, Dan Campbell will have this about the team,
08:18believing.
08:19So, we'll get into his reasoning.
08:21Lions go 14-3, according to Connor Orr,
08:23Sports Illustrated.
08:24We'll tell you why he believes that next on 97.1.
