00:00got some co-workers
00:01we got to talk about and not Mike and Rico.
00:04We did the whole Michigan quarterback
00:05drama earlier, but some behavior
00:07in the office dealing with the fridge
00:10email sent out.
00:11We'll sort through it. In
00:13the meantime,
00:15can you help me understand? I'm not worked up.
00:18I'm not angry.
00:19What's going on with the Lions return
00:21spot part return kick return?
00:23Because I thought, well, they're going to get
00:25Dorch back. Now he's in Buffalo,
00:27right?
00:29I don't know what the answer
00:31is. The game is not
00:33this weekend. They have time to
00:35sort it out, figure it out. I would anticipate
00:37that Brad Holmes
00:39has his eye on
00:40three or four different candidates
00:43to fill that job. I don't
00:45think that individual is on the roster
00:47currently and
00:49it's going to be
00:50you know, if when the
00:53dominoes start falling of, hey, we're going to
00:55release these couple of quarterbacks. We're going to release
00:57this extra tight end that we have
00:58and then somebody else picks them up. Somebody else
01:01gets released like there's going to be a domino effect
01:03that happens over the course of this week
01:04until you get to about Saturday
01:06or Sunday. That's when things really
01:08start to slow down. So I think by
01:10the end of the week, they have signed
01:12somebody that is going to come
01:14in and be their return specialist
01:16because return specialist
01:18it matters. Look, this team
01:20has emphasized special teams. The
01:22return game has become more important with this
01:24new kickoff. The hidden yardage
01:26on part returns all this stuff matters
01:28and
01:30John, they don't have anybody who's returned
01:32to punt on the roster. No
01:34which is why I don't think
01:36it's not it's not a stretch to say
01:38that the returner for
01:40this team is not currently on the roster because
01:42they don't have one. Yeah, I think I think the stat
01:44was seven players returned kicks
01:46and punts in the preseason
01:49the only player
01:50player who is still here
01:52is Jabari small. He returned
01:54one kickoff, right? So it's clearly
01:56a position they're going to have to address and you've
01:58got teams hoarding for quarterbacks
02:00like there's always roster gymnastics. I am
02:03still confused and puzzled
02:04though that they didn't just keep
02:05Dorch and let one of the
02:08five running backs hit the streets
02:10because I think Dorch or whoever
02:12the part returner is is going
02:14to make a bigger impact in the games
02:15than the fifth running back, right? I
02:18I guess that's what I'm just missing. Why not keep Dorch?
02:20You brought him in. You paid him a million bucks
02:21and say sorry our fifth running back
02:23you can go on the scrap heap and if we need someone
02:25we'll call you and maybe small
02:27is their kickoff returner
02:29and it could you don't have to have the same
02:31guy returning kicks as you do returning
02:33punts, right? That can be two individuals.
02:36I just don't think that whoever that
02:37individual is is currently
02:40on another roster
02:42and they are anticipating
02:43and if a if plan a
02:47is is retained
02:48by their current team
02:49then they move to plan B
02:50plan C plan D
02:51I've got to imagine that there is
02:53a list that Brad Holmes has
02:55that says as soon as one of these guys
02:57is available
02:58that's who we're going after.
03:00Why wouldn't Dorch have been plan A?
03:02You paid him a million bucks.
03:03He was in camp
03:05special teams coach liked him, right?
03:07We talked to to Dave about him.
03:09Why wasn't he just plan A?
03:10Who did
03:13So the question is
03:14why
03:15why wasn't plan A
03:16in place
03:17until plan B
03:18became available?
03:20I think is
03:20maybe the best way to put it.
03:22Because you can't plan
03:23for a guy
03:24to get
03:25released on another team.
03:26You don't have a control
03:27of that situation.
03:28No, you don't.
03:28That's why you have to have a list
03:29of five, six, seven guys
03:31and as soon as somebody
03:32comes off that list
03:33but they got five, six, seven guys
03:34that aren't even necessarily available
03:36that are all better than Greg Dorch.
03:37That had to be
03:37Well, if they're currently on a roster
03:38then you would anticipate
03:39that they might be better.
03:41And that's the gamble.
03:42They got to get somebody.
03:42There's a little bit of a gamble in this.
03:44This is far from
03:46like something I want to
03:48hyperventilate about
03:49make a big deal about.
03:51You had a question about
03:53a different offseason blunder
03:54and whether or not
03:55it's the biggest offseason blunder
03:56of Brad Holmes.
03:57Well, and we have talked
03:59ad nauseum
04:01about the secondary
04:02in Kirby Joseph
04:04and we talked yesterday
04:05about the protocol in place
04:06for an Achilles injury.
04:07We do believe Brian Branch
04:09will be back at some point.
04:10We just don't know
04:11what it looks like
04:12for Brian Branch
04:13when he returns.
04:14Kirby Joseph
04:15on the other hand
04:16if there is this great mystery
04:18and maybe they know something
04:20that they're just simply
04:21not sharing.
04:22I don't know.
04:24I don't really see that
04:25as the case with
04:26Dan's pretty straightforward
04:28about things.
04:29And we know
04:31with NFL coaches
04:32college coaches
04:32there's always this mystery
04:34about what
04:34how big of an injury it is
04:36and until they go on IR
04:38you don't really know
04:39but he is on the pup.
04:41He's unavailable
04:42for the first four games
04:43and we have
04:44absolutely no idea
04:46if he ever plays
04:48for the Detroit Lions again.
04:50And with that in mind
04:51if he never does
04:53did they do enough
04:55in the offseason
04:56knowing this
04:57like it's not like
04:58Frank Ragnall
04:58who all of a sudden retires.
05:00Like this is an issue
05:01that they had
05:02at the end of last season.
05:03It was an issue
05:04at the beginning
05:04of the offseason.
05:05There is an unknown
05:06quantity
05:07in regards to
05:09how severe
05:11is this injury?
05:12How degenerative
05:13is it?
05:14Is it going to get
05:15any better?
05:15And then you don't
05:18you don't address
05:18the position
05:19with much substance.
05:22Now I'm not going
05:23to sit there
05:23and say Chuck Clark
05:24Thomas Harper
05:25they can't be good
05:26but can they
05:27yeah can they be great?
05:29I don't think
05:30we're looking at
05:31anybody that
05:31surprisingly jumps up
05:33and all of a sudden
05:33they're great.
05:34Well I think
05:35that would be
05:36their response
05:36would be
05:38we weren't going
05:39to add a great
05:40safety and free agency
05:42and pay up
05:43but did they add
05:43somebody good enough
05:45knowing that they
05:46were going to start
05:46the season
05:47without both of them.
05:48So I think
05:48their argument
05:49would be Chuck Clark
05:49is a body
05:50of Ante Maddox
05:51played in games.
05:52We also feel like
05:54Izzy and can play
05:55some safety right?
05:55Wasn't that part
05:56of the selling point
05:56when they brought him
05:57and their thought
05:57would have been
05:58we added like
05:58three or four bodies
05:59we're just going to
06:00have to piecemeal
06:01until we get
06:02these guys back
06:02and Branch
06:03should be back
06:03at some point.
06:04The Joseph one
06:05is just so finicky
06:06because they've
06:07paid him
06:07he's on the team
06:09they have to hold
06:09out some hope
06:10he's going to play
06:11but that dwindles
06:11by the day.
06:12It does
06:13and I just
06:14I'm
06:16when you hear
06:17anybody talk
06:18about this team
06:19right?
06:20They've shored up
06:20the offensive line
06:21they got Laporta
06:22back
06:23you know
06:24and you could
06:25you could say
06:25hey well maybe
06:25they didn't do
06:26enough for RB2
06:28you know
06:29in case something
06:30happens to
06:30Jameer Gibbs
06:31but I'm willing
06:33to take that gamble
06:34because I think
06:34Jameer Gibbs
06:35is just going to
06:36be that good
06:36right
06:38defensively
06:38okay they've
06:39addressed
06:39you know
06:40they finally
06:40drafted an edge
06:42they went out
06:43and got DJ
06:43Wanham
06:44I think
06:45deep up front
06:46they've done enough
06:46the biggest
06:47question mark
06:48is have they
06:49done enough
06:50in the secondary
06:51and for me
06:52the biggest
06:53one is
06:54if you
06:55if you at all
06:56feel like
06:57Kirby Joseph
06:58isn't going
06:59to contribute
07:01then did you
07:02do enough
07:02at that position
07:03you could also
07:04sit there
07:05and say
07:05well maybe
07:05it's
07:06you know
07:07it's CB2
07:08that's me
07:08that's the
07:09that's the guy
07:09I would
07:10if you want
07:10to label
07:10the biggest
07:11blunder
07:11of this offseason
07:12you can make
07:13the case
07:13for Kirby
07:13Joseph
07:14given the fact
07:14that there's
07:15no confidence
07:15he's going
07:16to play
07:16to me
07:17the bigger
07:17blunder
07:17was CB2
07:18because in
07:19February
07:20you knew
07:20Terryon
07:21was getting
07:21involved
07:22in this
07:23right
07:23and Terryon
07:25Arnold
07:25wasn't a
07:25good football
07:26player
07:26at least
07:26with Kirby
07:27Joseph
07:27if he's
07:28healthy
07:28that guy
07:28was an
07:29all pro
07:30Terryon
07:31Arnold
07:31wasn't worth
07:32the headache
07:32and they
07:33eventually
07:33reached that
07:34conclusion
07:34John
07:34but what
07:35did they
07:36do
07:36in the
07:37weeks
07:37leading up
07:38to and
07:38since
07:39they haven't
07:40added anybody
07:40to that
07:41position
07:41right
07:42no
07:43so I
07:43would think
07:44that's the
07:44bigger blunder
07:45is CB2
07:46as opposed
07:46to Kirby
07:47Joseph
07:47but we
07:48could leave
07:48it up to
07:48people if
07:49they want
07:49to make
07:50the case
07:51for Kirby
07:51I'm certainly
07:52not happy
07:53with the
07:53developments
07:53there
07:54right
07:54and this
07:55is all
07:55with the
07:56perspective
07:56of we
07:57have not
07:57seen them
07:57play a
07:58regular season
07:58game yet
07:59we don't
07:59know what
08:00Chuck
08:00Clark
08:00Thomas
08:01Harper
08:01Christian
08:01is we
08:02don't know
08:02what any
08:02of these
08:02guys are
08:03going to
08:03look like
08:03in any
08:04of those
08:05positions
08:05and I
08:07would
08:07anticipate
08:08and expect
08:09that they
08:10would
08:11that they
08:12would be
08:13making the
08:13decisions
08:13they feel
08:14best for
08:15their
08:15defense
08:16248-539-9797
08:18we want to
08:19hear from you
08:19guys this
08:20morning the
08:20biggest off
08:21season blunder
08:21for the
08:22Lions
08:22and John
08:24you've got
08:24three Lions
08:25bets we'll
08:25get to that
08:26next
08:2697-1
08:27have
08:27you
