National mock drafts have Jermod McCoy as the top pick for the Dallas Cowboys at 26%... but the guys at GBAG Nation aren't buying it.
Transcript
00:00I got a consensus mock draft here for the Cowboys at 12.
00:06The most consistently mocked player to the Cowboys right now is Jermon McCoy.
00:13He is the pick in 26% of the mock drafts, followed by Dylan Thienemann at 11%.
00:21And then Caleb Downs is the third most common mocked player to the Cowboys at 8.2%.
00:29That would be the one that I think a lot of folks would be celebrating.
00:33The likelihood of McCoy from Tennessee going to the Cowboys right now, Brian,
00:38after this week or the last couple of weeks going back to his pro day,
00:41it seems like that's much closer to 0% than 26.
00:45Yeah, I would say, Zach, are you going to concur with that one on McCoy?
00:48Probably 0% on that one?
00:50For the Cowboys? Yeah.
00:51The Cowboys are not taking him in the first round.
00:54Bobby's been adamant. Bobby's been all over this, too.
00:57Would be an all-time smokescreen if they take him.
00:58If they take him, man, great job on their part.
01:01I'd be happy with him myself.
01:03Do we trust the Cowboys' evaluations of injured players?
01:06I think for the most part I do, but yeah, I do.
01:10I do.
01:10I think that they've gambled before, and I don't think,
01:15and really in the first round they don't.
01:17The first round they don't, it's a second-round gamble.
01:19It's the Blue Star Special that they'll do this.
01:21So like with Revel was in the third.
01:23If for some reason, maybe McCoy slid to the second,
01:27do they like him enough to say, you know what, we'll move up for him?
01:29Possibly.
01:30But I don't think in the first round they don't really gamble with the hurt project guys.
01:33And there might be another team, maybe Kansas City at nine.
01:36Maybe they're medically, he's cleared.
01:38He's good to go.
01:39And they're saying we'll take him.
01:40But it's not just Dallas.
01:41I know there's other teams in the league that have removed him.
01:45And Dane Brugler's been on this too because of the knee.
01:48The medical rechecks of this weekend, we get something with Mal and Noah.
01:53They bring all the guys in who've been kind of struggling with injury.
01:57So I'm sure he went back in.
02:00I mean, after he ran the 4-3-9, there's some people that maybe are saying,
02:05maybe thinking that he might need a redone maybe.
02:09Yeah, he might have to go in there and get another surgery.
02:11Wow.
02:13So I need to circle back with my trainer guys and gals.
02:17That would be very interesting information.
02:19How could you go sub 4-4 and need a redo on your ACL?
02:22That's crazy.
02:23I don't know.
02:24I don't know.
02:24Yeah, I don't understand it either.
02:26But the whispers are that something might not have been right.
02:30Okay.
02:30Now, is Dylan Thienemann a likely pick at 12?
02:33What do you think about all the mocks presented at Thienemann?
02:35I mean, I have not heard one bit of information.
02:39No 30 visit, no combine visit.
02:41But they did that with Ware, didn't they?
02:43Okay.
02:44You tell me.
02:45Well, yeah, that's a good point.
02:46I was there.
02:48I don't remember.
02:49I just remembered that it wasn't a 30 visit.
02:52There was not a lot of...
02:53I think Morris Claiborne was like that.
02:55Yeah.
02:55And then they moved up for him.
02:56Yeah.
02:56I don't think they had a lot of contact with him.
02:58They might like Dylan Thienemann.
03:00And they're just keeping it a hush.
03:02And we might just not know about it.
03:03But to this point, I know they've met with Emmanuel McNeil-Loren, your guy, Eric.
03:06And they've met with Caleb Downs.
03:08And Stooks, they've met with the Arizona guy.
03:11But I don't believe that they have visited with Dylan Thienemann, to my knowledge.
03:14But out of these first two names here on the consensus picks at each spot, I would say
03:20the biggest takeaway here is that a lot of mocks suck, because they don't know enough.
03:25See, that's the problem, is that the locals know the Cowboys' situation on McCoy.
03:31Yeah.
03:32If you're paying attention to Love of the Star, you're paying attention to all the various
03:36platforms that we're on, including our own show.
03:39I know our morning show talks about it quite a bit.
03:42Yeah.
03:43Bobby's been on that one.
03:44Yeah, so to me, if you're kind of following along with the people who live with the team
03:48every single day, you would know that, hey, Dallas does not really fancy taking McCoy
03:55because of the knee.
03:56It's just too difficult to cover all 32.
03:59As one person, you need a team of people, I think, to accurately put something like this
04:04together.
04:05And I would say it's between four and eight people, somewhere in there.
04:09It would just be a massive undertaking to learn the team on this intimate of a level.
04:14Okay.
04:15At 20, you got Mesidor, the most consistently mocked player to the Cowboys, but only 15%
04:23of the mocks.
04:24CJ Allen is the second most with 11% of the mocks.
04:27I just really need to lean on my medical staff here.
04:31But I do wonder if the Cowboys have taken too many injury risk players over the years,
04:37and like Revel was the straw that broke the camel's back.
04:41And now they're saying, we're going to swing it the other way and not do any injury risk
04:45players.
04:46Very well could be, Dawson.
04:48Very well could be.
04:49I'd be okay with that.
04:50You know?
04:51Yes.
04:51If you spend decades drafting injury risk players thinking you're going to get ahead, and then
04:57you look back on the last 20 years and say, man, injuries keep holding us back from hitting
05:02our potential.
05:03And I would say there's a strong argument to be made that that has happened over the last
05:07six years.
05:08If you look at all the players that have been injured for this Cowboys team, some of them
05:12beyond their control, which just goes to say, you're going to have a bunch of dudes get
05:17hurt.
05:17Don't take guys who you know coming from college are going to make that problem worse.
05:22You got to be playing defense against injured dudes on draft night.
05:26Like it is the most important thing in the world.
05:29You're coming into that draft room, slapping the floor saying, we're not taking any medical
05:34red flag dudes today.
05:35We're not falling for that BS trap.
05:37Yeah, because there's so many guys.
05:39Like it's not like you're pigeonholed and it's free agency.
05:42It's like, man, there's only one good player at this position.
05:43He's got some more.
05:44It's like, we're just going to go for it.
05:46It's like, dude, you are in a draft that is littered with tons of different players
05:49at each position.
05:50And especially when you talk about CJ Allen, it's like some people would argue he's not
05:54even better than Rodriguez or Anthony Hill.
05:57And if he is, it's by a hair.
05:59It's not like he's so much far and away better than the other linebackers that you're like,
06:03no, we got to just take this guy.
06:04That knee swelling at his pro day really has me hung up.
06:09I don't even know.
06:10I might end up having Josiah Trotter out of his head.
06:13Really?
06:14Wow.
06:14Yeah.
06:14And I loved watching him play.
06:16Okay.
06:16I was a huge CJ Allen fan.
06:18He's a fun player.
06:19I don't mind a guy that's not the smoothest of athletes.
06:21If I can tell that you have the physicality and the instincts and you can overcome the
06:27lack of physical quickness with your processing speed and you're a leader and you're a communicator
06:31at middle linebacker.
06:32I love CJ Allen.
06:33Okay.
06:34Colts and Kenny Moore mutually agreeing to seek a trade and a new home for the veteran
06:39corner.
06:40He is entering the last year of his contract.
06:43Both sides feel it's a time to explore a trade.
06:46Had a few TFLs last year.
06:48A couple of sacks.
06:50A disruptive player.
06:52A couple of takeaways there.
06:53Slot corner for 72.4% of his snaps last year.
06:59This is true.
06:59This is Kenny Moore.
07:00He actually played 75 plays at linebacker.
07:04Used in some hybrid box roles.
07:08Outside corner about 4.5% of the time.
07:10Very occasional.
07:12Did play on the edge as a bit of a rusher about 3% of the time in pass rush
07:17situations.
07:18Four plays as a free safety and just two plays as a strong safety.
07:22So this is pretty clearly a slot corner candidate that's got some ability to tackle.
07:27What is this?
07:28Nearly 60 tackles last year out of a corner.
07:30That's pretty dang good, Brian.
07:32Yeah, just kind of watch him.
07:33I have a report for you about him.
07:35But yeah, we'll talk a little bit about that.
07:38There's some things when you're saying about the tackling that's actually pretty good in
07:42space.
07:43But man, there are some Olay plays too you're going to have to worry about as well.
07:47Probably could have had maybe 70 tackles from some of the ones I've seen him miss here
07:51so far.
07:52Okay.
07:52He's missing tackles.
07:53This is Colton Kenny Moore II, if you're wondering again on that name.
08:00Cowboys just last week, the league meeting's talking about finding an inside player that
08:05would allow Deron Bland to stay on the outside.
08:08But pretty significant contract when you're looking at it.
08:11So I don't know if they're looking financially at that caliber of a player.
08:17They're trying to get this done on a budget.
08:20But if you want to win, you want to get the general on 105 through the fan excited about
08:24you winning, about me believing through the summer going into training camp.
08:27Go get Kenny Moore.
08:28I'll change my tune.
08:29Yeah.
08:29I mean, that's the type of aggressive move you want to see.
08:31You want to see them go out there.
08:33And I don't think it would cost a ton to get a guy like that.
08:35Maybe pick 112, that fourth rounder.
08:37Or could you even give up one of the fives?
08:39I mean, in a perfect world, I'd give up one of the fives for him.
08:41Yeah.
08:42Yeah.
08:42I'd be all on board with that.
08:44Yeah, sure.
08:45I would do that.
08:46Now, I mean, as we get closer to the draft, I just wonder now if teams are like, we got
08:50our boards, but we want to keep these picks now.
08:53Then we're going to let the first round play out for the Cowboys, then we'll circle back
08:56and maybe on day three we make a move.
08:58So I don't know how aggressive teams would be to go and make a move like that.
09:03But if you're talking about a day three pick and you can get a player that has no guaranteed
09:07money remaining on the deal, it's a $9.5 million base salary, maybe the Colts can help
09:13you out with some of that stuff.
09:14It's a $13 million salary cap hit.
09:16I mean, yeah, it's a ready, proven veteran player.
09:18I guess to them, they'd have to decide, is he better than what we have in-house?
09:22Because I do think they like Kobe Durant as a nickel player more than we did when they
09:26first signed him.
09:27I think they think that he's got the skill set to do that.
09:30And he did do it early in his career.
09:31But yeah, I'm interested in Kenny Moore.
09:34I'm interested in what Brian has to say about him coming up next.
09:37All righty.
09:37A lot going on here in the world of sports on a proper draft countdown football Friday
09:44with you here in the GBAC Nation.
