00:00What up, though, y'all?
00:01The Fly's vlogger on the planet, man.
00:03We are inside.
00:04Mic check.
00:04I go by the name of Showtime, the czar.
00:07Got a special guest in studio with me today.
00:10Rising R&B superstar.
00:12Okay, I can say that right now because he's still on the rise,
00:15doing his thing, still grinding, steady, hustling.
00:17He goes by the name of Legend.
00:18What up, though, man?
00:19What's the deal, Detroit?
00:20What's poppin'?
00:21Welcome to the show, brother.
00:22Thank you for having me, man.
00:22How are you, first off?
00:24Thank you for having me.
00:25I'm good, man.
00:26Just celebrated my 29th birthday.
00:28Oh, man, happy birthday, man.
00:29What'd you do?
00:29Man, I dropped the album, worked on a project.
00:32See, I'm saying, steady working, brother.
00:34Always working.
00:34You know what I'm saying?
00:34Steady working.
00:34We outside, man.
00:35We outside on 26th.
00:37That's what's up.
00:38But I just dropped the album, dropped a music video,
00:41you know what I'm saying?
00:42Celebrating some little wins, trying to, you know,
00:44do something monumental, man.
00:45Something legendary.
00:46Nice, nice.
00:47You said you dropped the album.
00:48That's the only thing you did for your birthday.
00:50You ain't going to no club, no party, no nothing like that.
00:52I was at Love and Tequila the night.
00:54There it go, there it go.
00:55Okay.
00:57We got right.
00:58We had us a good time.
00:59How you doing?
00:59Glad to hear that, man.
01:00You got to celebrate.
01:01Like you said, you got to celebrate the wins.
01:03Before we get into your project, Dreamers Don't Die,
01:06that's the album you just dropped, correct?
01:07Yes, sir.
01:08Before we get into that, man,
01:09people might not know the backstory of Legend, man.
01:11So give people a little bit of who you are
01:14and, you know what I'm saying,
01:15your musical background and all that good stuff.
01:17Yeah, man.
01:17I'm an R&B artist from Inkster, Michigan.
01:19You know, I love to Detroit, but I am from Inkster.
01:22Shout out to the town.
01:23Shout out to the town.
01:24So, yeah, man, I got my roots.
01:26I started in church.
01:28My father's a pastor.
01:30You know, my uncle was Bishop Wayne T. Jackson,
01:32Apostle Wayne T. Jackson.
01:34So I come from a long line of men of God,
01:37and I was raised in church my whole life.
01:41You know what I'm saying?
01:41So my father actually started his ministry in 97,
01:44the year I was born.
01:46Nice.
01:47Just being around production my whole life,
01:49I was always infatuated, working sound
01:51or on a praise and worship team,
01:54some type doing a skit or just acting
01:56or, you know, just using the gifts
01:57that I felt like God gave me.
01:59So that's kind of where I got my start.
02:01From there, you know, I played football.
02:04I left college at Adrian College.
02:07I left from there and went to Eastern,
02:10and that's where I met my brother,
02:11Sokka the Renegade.
02:12Shout out to Sokka.
02:13Yeah, yeah.
02:14He's my guy.
02:14And that's where I met them at Tribe.
02:17He had an org called Tribe,
02:19and that was where I kind of got my start.
02:21I was already rapping and stuff at Adrian
02:24and, like, developing myself as an artist,
02:25but that was where I could go to have, like,
02:28you know, iron sharpens iron.
02:29You know what I'm saying?
02:30One of those situations.
02:31So there I made the conscious decision
02:34to, like, drop out of school entirely
02:36and focus on music.
02:37And I did that in 2017,
02:40and I never looked back.
02:41Or, yeah, 2017, and I never looked back.
02:44Years later, I would open up a studio.
02:48My brother, I'm inside.
02:49Shout out, Side.
02:51Locked in studios, locked in entertainment.
02:53If you ain't locked in, you locked out.
02:55You know what I'm saying?
02:55We opened that up in 2020 during a pandemic.
02:58And, you know, a hard time where the world was going through a lot.
03:02We decided to show some grit, you know what I'm saying,
03:05and bite down and fight through it and burst something new.
03:09So from there, you know, the last five years,
03:12we've been rocking and gliding, shooting,
03:14going to different countries, different states,
03:18you know what I'm saying, doing our thing,
03:19trying to develop as artists and business owners as well.
03:23We've done things for the community, you know what I'm saying,
03:26shoe drives, backpack giveaways, you know what I'm saying,
03:30also giving away times to different schools and, you know what I'm saying,
03:33providing opportunity for the youth.
03:35Nice.
03:36Ultimately.
03:37And then from there is just where we at now.
03:39And right now we in the era of a dreamer's world, you know what I'm saying.
03:43And that's like more than just fashion.
03:45It's more than just music.
03:46It's a way of life, you know what I'm saying.
03:48It's like knowing that your dreams aren't far-fetched,
03:52knowing that you can attain the things that people would tell you are unattainable,
03:55you know what I'm saying.
03:56Nice.
03:57You said you had a church background.
03:59Your father is a pastor.
04:00Yes, yes, sir.
04:01How does that shape your music, man?
04:03Do you ever feel like, ah, can't really talk about this,
04:05my dad might hear it, or my mom might hear it?
04:07What's that like, bro?
04:09Honestly, man, I had support from my parents since I was a little kid.
04:13That's very important.
04:14Like, they bought me studio equipment.
04:16I had studio equipment in my basement at like 12 years old,
04:19me and my twin brother, you know what I'm saying?
04:21Your brother do music too?
04:22Yeah, yeah, he does.
04:23He's on my album.
04:24Okay.
04:25Shout out L3.
04:26But yeah, yeah, man.
04:29So it's never been like a thing where I had to like hide it,
04:32or like I could always come to them and show them my music,
04:35you know what I'm saying?
04:36It's always been free.
04:38Granted, the message, you know,
04:41that kind of shit is older you get, you know what I'm saying?
04:43But at the same time, like, I've always been true to R&B
04:46and true to the essence of hip-hop as well.
04:49So it's like I've never tried to hide my creativity
04:51or even dialed back and tried to be sanctified
04:54or nothing like that, you know what I'm saying?
04:56Like, this is art at the end of the day.
04:58Right.
04:58So I feel like there's no rules in art, you know what I'm saying?
05:01When you show up to color your picture,
05:03you color it however you want to.
05:05Facts.
05:05You said you went to a few different countries.
05:08No, I'm just saying, we've been out the country,
05:11you know what I'm saying?
05:11Out in Canada, you know what I'm saying?
05:13Just pursuing different opportunities, shooting content,
05:17you know what I'm saying?
05:17Going out there, trying to find a different network
05:21of clientele as well.
05:22But outside of that, you know what I'm saying,
05:24really just going out there, shooting content,
05:26trying to get on the performance scene as well out there,
05:28you know, diversify.
05:30But we've been to Atlanta, L.A.
05:34Man, we've been around.
05:35What do you think the cultural differences is
05:36when you go to those different cities,
05:38like the Atlantas or the L.A.s, man?
05:40I don't know.
05:41Especially when it comes to R&B.
05:43Culturally, I think that Atlanta is more like,
05:47okay, we looking for something like this.
05:49I think that L.A. is more rooted in its culture,
05:54and that's fine, but it's like,
05:56it's still respect for art at the end of the day.
05:59So it's like a sense of being embraced as well out there,
06:04just running into the locals and telling them,
06:06oh, yeah, I do music.
06:06Like, you know, it's a lot of people out there doing music.
06:09So, like, as a scene that's oversaturated,
06:11I would feel like the response that I've gotten
06:14while being out there was always love.
06:16But, you know what I'm saying,
06:17I would say being from Detroit is like,
06:20you can make it here or make it from Inkster.
06:22You can make it anywhere, bro.
06:24Like, you got to have that sense of resilience
06:26and being for it tough, you know what I'm saying?
06:29Not to be how cliche, but that's really the reality.
06:31Like, where you going to go where it can snow in April?
06:34You know what I'm saying?
06:35Yeah, not too many places, bro.
06:37What we doing for real?
06:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:39So you're from the town, man.
06:42Talk about how that shaped your musical background, man.
06:45I mean, man, we come from greatness.
06:47And not a lot of people know this,
06:48but one of the first platinum records to come out of Motown
06:52was coming out of Inkster with The Marvelettes,
06:55Mr. Postman.
06:55Yeah, yeah.
06:56You know what I'm saying?
06:57So it's just like, I look at that
06:59and I look at where the origins of greatness
07:04has gotten us today.
07:06And not to say that I'm disappointed,
07:09but it's a little bit disheartening
07:11to see how far we have fell from the sense of just showmanship.
07:15We ain't got to talk about the messaging
07:16because I'm not no better than nobody
07:19or no preacher or none of that.
07:20You know, I'm not here to cast judgment.
07:22But I just think that we owe it to the people
07:25that came before us.
07:26This is Motown, bro.
07:27The Jackson 5.
07:29What are we saying?
07:30Smokey Robinson.
07:31You know what I'm saying?
07:32Right, right.
07:33Stevie Wonder.
07:33Come on, man.
07:34Yeah, yeah.
07:34Anita Baker.
07:36Gladys Knight in the Pittsburgh.
07:37Yeah, yeah.
07:37You know what I'm saying?
07:37We could really keep going.
07:39Yeah, yeah.
07:39This is a city of real greatness and showmanship.
07:42So that's why when you see legend,
07:43you're going to see a band.
07:45You're going to see dancers.
07:46You're going to see showmanship.
07:48You know what I'm saying?
07:49It's not going to just be a music video
07:51or just, you know what I'm saying?
07:53A bunch of provocative things
07:56that I can't say on the radio.
07:57That's right, right, right.
07:57You know what I'm saying?
07:58I want people to feel entertained
07:59at the end of the day.
08:00Mm-hmm.
08:01Since you brought it up,
08:02state of R&B.
08:03How you feel about it, man?
08:05I feel like it's a,
08:06I'm going to call it a dying art,
08:07but I don't feel like people,
08:10the newer R&B artists,
08:12put their heart and soul into it.
08:13It's kind of like, you know,
08:15rappers that just found a niche of singing.
08:17I think that that's music now.
08:19Like, so I think people are more
08:24just trying to get rich quick.
08:26You know what I'm saying?
08:27So it's like, you can hear that in the music.
08:28It's like, it's not no real essence of soul.
08:31And that's what we're used to.
08:32When we think of R&B,
08:34we think of that essence of soul,
08:36that thing that speaks to our spirit.
08:39You know what I'm saying?
08:40Those songs that give us those butterflies
08:42and those goosebumps.
08:44And some of it's in vocal delivery.
08:46And I think that there are a lot of
08:48great vocally talented artists
08:50that are still doing their thing
08:51and that are arising as well.
08:53So I think that it's not dying.
08:55I think that it's emerging from the ashes
08:57like a phoenix, honestly.
08:58Because it's something,
09:00it's something that's like
09:02never going to be able to die
09:03because people are going to always fight
09:06to get it in its truest essence.
09:07The problem is that hip hop
09:08is like a sub genre now
09:10where like it's auto-tuned out
09:12where hip hop wasn't always
09:15what it is now.
09:16But it, I mean, that's music.
09:18It's going to always change.
09:19You know what I'm saying?
09:21So you talked about the history
09:23of just, you know,
09:25both Inkster and Detroit
09:27and just like R&B.
09:28And to me, Detroit is an R&B city.
09:33You know what I'm saying?
09:33To its core.
09:34You know, no matter how hard
09:35we tried to put,
09:36and nothing against the rappers,
09:37but it's just, to me,
09:38it's just R&B city.
09:41How do we get back to,
09:42like you said, that essence,
09:44that love of what we're doing
09:46in terms of R&B, man?
09:47How do we get back to that?
09:49I got to be so honest.
09:51Like, I don't mean this
09:52in no like way.
09:54So if I say something,
09:55I'm not casting judgment,
09:56but it's like,
09:57it's on all of us
09:58to do our part.
10:00Like you go into the club
10:02and the DJ spin a new record.
10:04What do the people do?
10:05They stop.
10:06Why?
10:07Because it's not the song
10:08they heard on TikTok.
10:09It's not the song
10:09that they know.
10:10So what does that make the DJ do?
10:13The DJ doesn't play
10:14that song anymore.
10:15The DJs aren't trying
10:16to break new artists.
10:16Or how many DJs
10:18are trying to break new artists?
10:19They don't do it no more.
10:20You know what I'm saying?
10:21But what is the interest in it?
10:22It's because everything
10:23is about monetary gain.
10:25It's either you want clout
10:25or you want some money.
10:27You know what I'm saying?
10:27Everything ain't always about money.
10:30Everything.
10:30And that's the thing.
10:32Our art form
10:33is taking the sacrifice
10:35and paying the penalty
10:36of everybody
10:37just being able to compensate.
10:39You could buy a number one.
10:40What does it mean
10:41to be in the studio
10:41making a great album?
10:43What does Michael Jackson's
10:44thriller mean
10:44if you can just go buy
10:45the number one?
10:46Facts.
10:47Yeah, yeah.
10:48So you feel like money
10:49is killing the R&B game
10:50or is it?
10:51It isn't.
10:53It's a bunch of things.
10:54We could be here all day.
10:55It's not just money.
10:57But I think that it's
10:59it's the sense of
11:01everybody has a play.
11:02Like this is a chain.
11:04And as soon as you find
11:05a weak link,
11:06it's over.
11:07That's just pretty much
11:08what it is.
11:09That's what I think.
11:09That's not like the easiest
11:10way to explain it.
11:11It's like everybody
11:12has their role in it.
11:14And I think that we all
11:15have to be the change
11:16that we want to see.
11:17If we want to see music
11:17get better,
11:18we got to stop playing
11:19Wax music.
11:20You know what I'm saying?
11:21If you want music
11:21to really get better,
11:22you can't play
11:23what's hot all the time.
11:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:25You got to be looking.
11:26So DJs,
11:26look for those artists
11:28that's taking this thing
11:29serious.
11:30Don't go just get
11:30Joe Blow
11:31because he hot
11:32on TikTok right now.
11:33Go figure out
11:34the guy that's working
11:35or the girl that's working
11:36for this thing
11:37day and night.
11:38And I ain't even
11:39talking about me.
11:40You know what I'm saying?
11:41I'll go pay to get
11:42my song on the radio,
11:43whatever.
11:44I'll go pay to get it done,
11:45whatever it takes.
11:46So money ain't all
11:47of the problem.
11:47You know what I'm saying?
11:49Talk about some
11:49of your musical influence,
11:50man.
11:50Who'd you listen to
11:51growing up
11:51that made you want
11:53to get into this R&B game?
11:55Ronald Isley
11:56and the Isley Brothers,
11:57Michael Jackson
11:58and the Jackson 5.
11:59OGs, for real, for real.
12:00You know what I'm saying?
12:01Man, that's like
12:01some of my earliest
12:02memories and earliest
12:04Who'd you hit to them?
12:05Like your mom,
12:05your dad?
12:06Got you.
12:06My dad.
12:06My mom and my dad.
12:07Road trips to Mississippi
12:08going to see my grandparents.
12:12Steffin' music, wasn't it?
12:13You know what I'm saying?
12:14Come on,
12:15I'll wake up in my sleep.
12:16I'll be going, yeah.
12:17You feel me?
12:17Wake up in my sleep
12:18when that hit on.
12:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:20So, you know,
12:21those are just some
12:22of the few.
12:22Luther Vandross,
12:24Kanye West,
12:25Chris Brown,
12:26you know what I'm saying?
12:26Many more,
12:27many more greats.
12:28Right.
12:28Do you try to emulate
12:29any of them
12:30and incorporate
12:30some of their sounds
12:31or some of their talents
12:33into your music at all
12:34or you're just like,
12:34I don't want to mess with that?
12:35So, like,
12:36I try my hardest, bro,
12:38to just be my own artist.
12:39Got you.
12:40I'm not going to shy away
12:42from my inspiration, though.
12:43Yeah, yeah.
12:44I got Michael Jackson
12:44in my studio
12:45looking at me recording
12:47and it's like,
12:49it's three different pictures
12:50of him on one picture.
12:51Get it go, man.
12:52And those pictures
12:53is three different stages.
12:54It's like,
12:55either he's pleased with me,
12:56he's upset,
12:57and he's like,
12:58okay, you all right.
13:00You know what I'm saying?
13:01So, like,
13:01I'm always in the studio
13:02like, man,
13:03I got to hit this run.
13:04Mike in here looking at me
13:05like, is he going to be proud?
13:06You know what I'm saying?
13:07So, definitely,
13:07the sense of the inspiration
13:09of what I grew up with,
13:11that's something
13:11that is just in me.
13:12Like, I get a lot of comparisons
13:13to a lot of artists
13:14that I listen to
13:15or that I have listened to
13:17because when I'm working,
13:17I don't listen to nobody.
13:19I really just listen to myself.
13:20Gotcha.
13:21And that's not like
13:21on some, like,
13:22I make the best music.
13:23That's just like,
13:23I'm really trying
13:25to do my best
13:26and not taking from people
13:27because we do it subconsciously
13:29Yeah, especially when you
13:30listen to them a lot.
13:31Yeah, I've heard that.
13:31Yeah, yeah.
13:33Let's talk about
13:34your project out right now,
13:36Dreamers Don't Die.
13:36Where'd you come up
13:37with that title from, bro?
13:38Oh, man.
13:38Just like I said,
13:39it's a dreamers world, man.
13:40It's tattered on my hand.
13:41It's a way of life, man.
13:42For real.
13:43And I believe that,
13:45you know,
13:45we all got an expiration date,
13:46but as a dreamer,
13:48it's like, man,
13:50my dreams don't die.
13:51You know what I'm saying?
13:52What are we in right now?
13:53We in somebody's dream right now.
13:54We in somebody's building.
13:55This was just somebody's idea
13:56that they had.
13:57And they had the moxie
13:59to go the extra mile
14:00to make sure,
14:01okay, this is going to be
14:02bigger than just a dream.
14:03I'm going to leave
14:04this world behind
14:04for my kids
14:05and my kids' kids.
14:06And that's what
14:06this thing is about.
14:07You know what I'm saying?
14:08I got kids.
14:08I'm a father of two.
14:10You know what I'm saying?
14:10Shout out my sons.
14:12And I believe wholeheartedly
14:14like if you're not doing it
14:16for the people behind you
14:17beyond just the kids,
14:18like I want the kids
14:19that's coming up in the hood
14:21or coming up in the suburbs
14:22who don't believe in themselves
14:23because I've been to the schools.
14:25I've talked to the kids
14:26who love music
14:27or have a different experience
14:29in loving art
14:30and want to express themselves
14:31through that.
14:32And the response
14:33that they get
14:34from their parents
14:35is not always supported.
14:37You know what I'm saying?
14:38So this album
14:39and my message alone
14:41to all people
14:42is really just
14:43to follow your dreams.
14:44Follow your gut.
14:45You know what I'm saying?
14:45If it's something in this life
14:46that you like
14:47got a really good idea about,
14:49man, go with that.
14:49God is not putting that
14:50on your heart for nothing.
14:51And that's what
14:52Dreamers Don't Die
14:53is about for real.
14:54You got a song
14:54on a project
14:55with my guy
14:55Sokka the Renegade.
14:56You brought him up earlier.
14:57Yes, sir.
14:58SOS.
14:59How did that collab
14:59come about with you
15:00on Asaka, man?
15:01I know you said
15:01you went to school
15:02with Asaka.
15:03I did too.
15:04We both went to Eastern.
15:04Shout out to Eastern.
15:05But how did that collab
15:06come about?
15:07Man, that's a
15:08like I said
15:08that's my brother
15:09right there, man.
15:10That's one guy
15:11I know if I call on
15:12he gonna
15:12whatever it is
15:13he gonna pick up.
15:14He gonna pull through
15:15for me.
15:16So it was one of those
15:17situations where
15:18I had a song.
15:19I was really
15:20the song was really
15:21just me by myself
15:21at first.
15:22And then I was just like
15:23someone was like
15:24man hit up Asaka
15:24and see if he can do something.
15:26Because it was just like
15:26I heard him on it.
15:29And realistically, man
15:30it just
15:30I called my brother
15:31man he pulled through
15:32for me like always, man.
15:34Nice.
15:34It was expected.
15:35Same old tribe connection.
15:36Shout out to everybody
15:37in the tribe regime, man.
15:38Fire.
15:40You do a lot of
15:41community events, man.
15:42You love
15:42you know
15:43I've seen you do the
15:44you post about
15:45the backpack drives
15:46and you know
15:47just wanting to
15:48give back
15:48you even spoke about
15:49just giving back
15:50to the community.
15:51Why is that important
15:51to you as an artist, man?
15:53Well, number one
15:54is something that
15:54I've seen my mother
15:55and my father do
15:56in ministry
15:57throughout years.
15:58Like I said
15:59they've been
16:00in ministry since 97
16:01and since 97
16:02they've been
16:03given back
16:04to communities
16:05whether it was
16:05Inkster
16:06or whether it was
16:07the west side of Detroit
16:08or the east side of Detroit
16:09wherever our ministry
16:10has crossed over
16:11we have went
16:12in the community
16:12and tried to impact
16:13people's lives
16:14and that
16:14it's not always
16:15with something monetary
16:17we've went through
16:18and just cleaned
16:19the community
16:20beautified
16:20you know what I'm saying
16:21went and cut the grass
16:23and pulled weeds
16:23and picked up the trash
16:25around the neighborhood
16:25you know what I'm saying
16:26so
16:28just
16:28really just
16:29it's in me
16:30it's in my roots
16:31my father and my
16:32my people have always
16:33taught me to
16:34you know serve others
16:35you know what I'm saying
16:35and be a blessing to others
16:37so
16:37just
16:38it was the same thing
16:39it was time for me
16:41to start my own business
16:42and
16:43share
16:45the platform
16:46of creativity
16:47because in that
16:48we still open up doors
16:49for other artists
16:49to perform as well
16:50but
16:51it's just a full circle moment
16:53man
16:53it's like
16:54I want to be able to
16:55show the kids
16:57is that
16:57there's somebody
16:59it's somebody that looks like you
17:00that comes where you come from
17:02and they are doing
17:03the unthinkable
17:04because that's the response
17:06that I get when I go
17:07and I do the things
17:07that I do
17:08humbly
17:08thank God
17:09all praise be to God
17:11but when I do these things
17:12people look at me like
17:14are you signed
17:15how did you do
17:16no I have a plan
17:17I made a plan
17:17and I put my mind to it
17:19and I made it happen
17:19and you can do it too
17:21your brand
17:22Locked In E&T
17:23yes
17:23how'd you come up with the name
17:25what made you want to
17:26because you have a studio
17:27correct
17:27yeah
17:28okay talk about all that man
17:29the studio
17:30the brand Locked In E&T
17:32the label
17:33talk about creating
17:34all of that man
17:34yeah man
17:35so like I said
17:36we started in 2020
17:38honestly
17:39it was a time
17:40where it was just like
17:41I was about to build
17:42a studio
17:43in my mom's basement
17:46because that's where
17:46I was recording
17:47all of my sessions
17:48so I was like
17:48I had some money
17:49saved up
17:50I'm like man
17:51I'm about to build a booth
17:51down here
17:52I went and bought some paint
17:54and then
17:55she was like
17:55got on me like
17:56you ain't about to paint my walls
17:58black boy
17:58you ain't about to die
17:59got on me
18:00you know what I'm saying
18:00shout out to my mom
18:01you know what I'm saying
18:01everything happened for a reason
18:03that ended up
18:04like pushing me
18:05to like
18:06okay I need to find somewhere
18:08there's a gentleman
18:08who actually had the space
18:10prior to us
18:11that I knew about
18:12and you know what I'm saying
18:13you know you see somebody
18:14do something
18:15and there ain't no hate
18:15but it be like
18:16dang
18:17I let dog come do this
18:19before me in my city
18:20like you know what I'm saying
18:21there wasn't no hate
18:21like
18:22yeah do you
18:23but I gotta do that too
18:24shout out bro
18:25shout out bro
18:26cause he lit the fire
18:27under me to be like
18:27okay
18:28I gotta get my own
18:30I gotta make it happen
18:31so ironically
18:32kind of like
18:33went past
18:33and he ended up
18:35like leaving the space
18:35moving to LA
18:36and you know
18:37following his career
18:38prospering in music as well
18:39shout out to them
18:41and me and bro
18:42had linked back up
18:43me and my brother
18:44had linked back up
18:46and probably hadn't
18:47talked to each other
18:47since we was like 13
18:48I had just dropped
18:50like a music video
18:50or something
18:51one of my homies
18:52was working with him
18:53from school
18:53and she had like
18:55she had seen the video
18:57shared it
18:57and he seen it
18:58and shared it
18:59ended up following me
19:00on his page
19:01and like
19:02I seen he was doing music
19:03and that was
19:04you know
19:05that was a shocker to me
19:06I'm like
19:06my business partner
19:08is Lebanese
19:08you know what I'm saying
19:09he's making hip hop music
19:10and R&B
19:11I'm like
19:11so I'm not no fake guy
19:13I'm gonna really go listen
19:14I really want to listen
19:15and I like what I heard
19:16I'm like
19:16okay I can help you here
19:17like I want to help you grow
19:18and that's kind of
19:19how it started
19:20it just was like
19:21me reaching out to him
19:22like he had already
19:24showed love to me
19:24and from there
19:25I just reached out
19:27and everything that we had did
19:28was genuine
19:29so we talked
19:30and like
19:31oh yeah man
19:31let's get in the stool
19:32we got in the stool
19:33later on that week
19:34everything we did
19:34we just
19:35we said we was gonna do it
19:36and we did it
19:37we went to the stool
19:38knocked out a session
19:40after that
19:41his engineer
19:41just so happened
19:42to be leaving
19:43and moving to Arizona
19:44so it was like
19:45he needed an engineer
19:46I'm like bro
19:47let's open up a studio together
19:49I'll be an engineer
19:50we gonna hire engineers
19:51we gonna
19:52and so on and so forth
19:54we end up going
19:55to look out of space
19:55later on that week
19:56two weeks later
19:57we was moved in
19:58building a studio
19:59that's dope man
20:00off of a month

20:06wow that's crazy
20:08you know what I mean
20:09yeah
20:10okay so
20:11I wanna back up

20:22and me
20:23oh man
20:24shout out Kendra Denise
20:26I get butterflies
20:27just thinking about
20:27how good that song is
20:28it's called
20:29Graveyard Shift
20:30and I say that
20:31this is the most
20:32true to R&B song
20:33on that album
20:35like
20:36oh my goodness
20:37Stevie Wonder
20:39all the greats
20:40would be proud
20:40if they heard
20:41you know what I'm saying

20:42that's what's up
20:43that's my one
20:44that's my number
20:44every time I get
20:45that's track nine
20:46by the way
20:46every time I get to it
20:47I get stuck there
20:48what was it about
20:49the track
20:49when you heard it
20:50you was like
20:50yeah this is one
20:51of them ones
20:53really the beat
20:54number one
20:54but more than anything
20:55like I know
20:56I did my thing
20:57pen was penning
20:59got you
21:00man Kendra Denise
21:01that voice
21:02she went crazy

21:04all my own music
21:04she came to the studio
21:05and recorded
21:06with me
21:06and I got to see it
21:08live in person
21:09and I just was
21:09blown away
21:10she almost made me
21:11walk out the stool bro
21:12like I almost did a lap
21:13I'm like bro
21:14she hit one high note
21:15I'm like bro
21:16I gotta leave
21:16I gotta go home
21:19alright
21:19a couple more things man
21:21and I'm gonna let you
21:21get up out of here
21:22you spoke about
21:24the support from your parents
21:25when you decided
21:26to leave school
21:28and pursue music full time
21:30well
21:31the support
21:32started young
21:33it wasn't like
21:34so look
21:35I had more of a support
21:36when I was
21:38coming up
21:39you know what I'm saying
21:4012 years old
21:41I still had the support
21:42chasing my music dream
21:44as an adult
21:44but you know
21:45my parents reacted
21:46how any parent would
21:47when you tell them
21:48you're dropping out of school
21:49to make music
21:51you know what I'm saying
21:51it looked at me
21:52like I was crazy
21:52you know what I'm saying
21:53rightfully so
21:54you know what I'm saying
21:55I was 19 years old
21:56so what they say
21:57like what was
21:58what was the conversation like
22:00and then after that conversation
22:01did you feel like
22:02okay I made the right decision
22:04yeah I felt like I did
22:06but the conversation
22:07just was more like
22:08are you sure
22:08like you sure
22:09this is what you
22:10because one thing I love
22:11about my parents
22:12they know I'm a man
22:13like they know
22:14that this is my life
22:15I gotta live it
22:15you know what I'm saying
22:16so they always gave me
22:17that respect
22:18they definitely like
22:20looked at me like
22:21is this dog okay
22:22you know what I'm saying
22:23but
22:24and there was some
22:25growing pains
22:25throughout all that
22:26like I said
22:26I was 19
22:27my parents was divorced as well
22:29I came back home
22:30I'm holding down
22:31a whole house by myself
22:32you know what I'm saying
22:3319 years old
22:34you know what I'm saying
22:34I had my cousins
22:35as my roommates
22:36shout out Juan
22:37shout out Money
22:39so you know what I mean
22:40like
22:40it was
22:41it was
22:42we was all going through
22:43something in that moment
22:44but regardless
22:45how I was being looked at
22:47for sure
22:48was more so like
22:49I remember having
22:51conversations with my father
22:52even after
22:53he was just like
22:54what you doing bro
22:55like you gotta get back in school
22:56and I was like
22:56looking at him like
22:57you still don't get it
22:58you know you gotta be
22:59delusional for your dreams
23:00you gotta be delusional
23:01for your dreams
23:02I'm sitting there
23:02looking at him like
23:04mind you
23:04I ain't really got
23:05much going on in life
23:06like I got a decent job
23:08but I'm consistent
23:09with my music
23:09that was the only thing
23:10I was really
23:10like going hard for
23:12and he like
23:13you gotta get back in school
23:14you need to do this
23:14and do that
23:15I'm like you still don't
23:16I'm looking at him
23:16like you still don't get it
23:17you still don't see it
23:19this is it
23:20when did your dad
23:21finally be like
23:21okay I see you
23:22when I opened up my studio
23:23and started having business
23:24and you know what I'm saying
23:25once that seed
23:27flourished into something
23:29you know
23:30a little bit more understandable
23:31and like I said
23:32that's even understandable
23:33on my side
23:34as a father
23:35like
23:35what you mean
23:36you gonna drop out of school
23:37to just go
23:37you know what I'm saying
23:38but at the same time
23:39I think that it's
23:40like a testament
23:41to them
23:42and like raising me
23:43like showing me that
23:45you know what I'm saying
23:46I've always had this in me
23:47you know what I'm saying
23:48I've wanted this
23:49since I was nine years old
23:50so it's like
23:51them having the
23:53ability to know
23:54like okay
23:54this kid
23:55he's a little crazy
23:57he want what he want
23:58he gonna go and get it
23:59I had a job at 15 bro
24:01like you know
24:01I was paying my own bills
24:02at like 15 years old
24:03so like
24:04I done always figured out
24:06how to get it
24:07you know what I'm saying
24:07so that's one thing
24:08they know
24:08I'm gonna get it done
24:09if I say I'm gonna do something
24:10it's gonna get done
24:11nice
24:12last thing man
24:13you like I said
