00:04what's up Mets fans it is opening week opening day so close right around the corner just a few
00:10days away Dexter Henry your boy here also my guy the great Warty joining me here Warty I know you're
00:18excited because I am you can feel it baseball is right here we're so close how excited are you my
00:23guy oh I'm amped up Dex I mean the fact that opening day is just a couple days away at
00:28the
00:28time I was talking right now is insane to me uh the offseason flew it kind of it was a
00:32slow buildup
00:33then it flew spring trainings to my surprise actually wasn't a drag this year it's usually
00:39drag for me personally as a fan but it didn't feel that way I think a key factoring that was
00:44how
00:44entertaining it was to watch all these new Mets now and their new uniforms you know so now seeing
00:50them all get set for opening day I'm pumped up I'm amped up you know I'll be there obviously here
00:55for the post so we're gonna have a lot of fun with it yeah it's gonna be a lot of
00:59fun unfortunately
00:59let the fans know I'm going to miss opening day uh some of you may know uh had an Achilles
01:05injury
01:05I'm having surgery actually on opening day it'll be after the Mets game so I will get to watch that
01:09hopefully it'll be after a Mets win um but soon I'll be back with Warty both in studio at games
01:15all that good stuff just gonna get healthy and ready before that so we can handle everything we need
01:19to handle for the rest of the season but speaking of the season Warty we thought we're gonna have
01:25it's prediction time so what we're gonna do today is we are going to give you our boldest predictions
01:30for the Mets season we are also going to give you what we are predicting for our season win total
01:34as well I know you've been waiting for that I'm intrigued to see what Warty has to say I don't
01:38know
01:38what his predictions are we are going to find this out together in real time it's going to be good
01:43so Warty's got three bold predictions I've got three bold predictions then we will do our win
01:47totals here all right Warty you lead things off here what do you have what's your first bold prediction
01:53for the Mets for 2026 my first bold prediction for the Amazons in 2026 is that their newly acquired
01:59ace caliber pitcher and Freddie Peralta is going to do something that he hasn't typically done and
02:04that's not only become a Cy Young finalist for the Mets and his first year with them in a walk
02:09year
02:09but because it's a walk year and knowing that added pressure knowing he needs to get his bag regardless
02:15if he's going to stay in Queens or not Freddie Peralta is going to be a Cy Young finalist and
02:19in fact
02:20pitched 200 plus innings for the New York Mets this season now this might come as a surprise to
02:25you Dex may come as a surprise to some of you guys but at the same time it has to
02:29be a bold prediction
02:30right so even though Freddie Peralta is not a starter that's been known to go terribly deep in a game
02:35stride his career he has been one of the most consistent and he's only one of nine starters over
02:40the past three years or so that's average the amount of starts that he has had each and every year
02:45so
02:45durability has been consistent with the young more so veteran right-hander now for the Amazons
02:50he's amped up I don't think he has broken his smile since he's been traded the New York Mets deck
02:55so
02:55I know that he's locked in and ready to give the Mets his all here in 2026 and the Mets
03:00need innings
03:01he can provide that but let's finally get a 200 plus inning pitcher for this amazing Mets rotation
03:07something that we have not seen in quite a while yeah we haven't seen that in quite a while okay
03:11I like
03:12that I think the 200 plus innings is the surprise there but you make a good point the thing about
03:17Freddie is he's generally available right he's recent recent history for him he's generally available
03:22that's been a good thing for the Mets and listen if he's going to do that it's going to be
03:26a Cy Young
03:27finalist has 200 plus innings it would feel like things are going pretty right for the Mets okay so
03:32here's my first one it also has to do with pitching Wardy but I think it's interesting because you
03:37went with Peralta I'm going with a different picture pitcher I call this guy the most important
03:41Mets for their season this year and I'm going with Kodai Senka Kodai Senka leads the team in ERA
03:48and here's the most important part for me folks he makes 30 starts lead the team in ERA and makes
03:5530
03:55starts Kodai Senka makes 30 starts I think you're feeling good about this season now look we all know
04:00he's got the good stuff we know that he can get guys with a swing and miss stuff he looked
04:05really good
04:06in spring training I understand it's a small sample size and in spring training we'd like to pump the
04:11brakes on that but he looked really good Peralta as Wardy just mentioned is expected to headline
04:17this rotation and should and then I think Nolan McClain which a lot of Mets fans are excited about
04:22will get a lot of attention but we all know the x-factor here is Senka while I'm saying he
04:27could
04:27lead the team in ERA I actually think while it's a bold move because we haven't seen him on the
04:31mound
04:31that often it's also not that shocking he's got the stuff to do this this could happen and the key
04:36to
04:36that is if he can make 30 starts I think this could happen if Senka's right as we talked about
04:41this rotation changes right it's not just a good rotation it becomes a very dangerous rotation this is
04:48assuming you get what Wardy just said from Freddy Peralta and Nolan McClain takes that next step that
04:53we'd like to see in his career if that happens it's really good so look I think there's a world
04:57in which
04:58Peralta can have the season that you just said Wardy but you can look at Senka and say he actually
05:03might be the most effective arm and the maybe the most key arm to this rotation so I'm banking on
05:09Freddy Peralta to do his thing but I also think Kodai Senka be a little bit bold I think he
05:14bounces
05:14back in a major way this year so I'm rocking with Kodai Senka here you know if you mention this
05:18after
05:19the 2023 season there wouldn't be a single Mets fan that would say this is a bold take they would
05:23say
05:23oh this is very on brand another year right of Kodai Senka but when Kodai goes MIA due to injury
05:29each of
05:29the past two years and when he is around pitches like a shove himself this is why it's such a
05:35bold
05:35prediction now because we saw how brilliant he looked this spring and my biggest takeaway not
05:39that you should really take anything more than a grain of salt with spring results but I always say
05:43decks it comes down to two key factors it comes down to players competing for a roster spot is where
05:48you
05:49want to look at those numbers and you also want to look at guys are coming off of down season
05:52see what
05:53they're doing to change to tweak and Kodai Senka touching 99 setting 97 and 99 consistently is a big
06:00deal because he has not done this since the 2023 season for the New York Mets when he was both
06:04a
06:05Cy Young and rookie of the year finalist so that alone should instill level of confidence behind your
06:10bold claim and I love it because listen the Mets get that kind of Kodai Senka this year I will
06:16retract
06:16every single remark I made all offseason long advocating as to why the Mets should part ways with him
06:21absolutely I would love nothing more than for Senga to carve you up by not only throwing you 99 up
06:27but
06:27then getting you the ghost fork out of the zone and you didn't even know what hit you and sayonara
06:30it's striking out the side that's what I want X between that Freddie and oh yeah who knows no
06:36McLean still might be the best of the bunch here so the Mets do have some major upside in this
06:41rotation
06:42no doubt and this gets into my next pick here when we talk about major upside for bull predictions who
06:48has
06:48some of the most major upside and magical for the Mets but also you could argue has potentially the
06:53lowest four that's Luis Robert and followers might know how much I've been an advocate of Roberts for
06:59years well before he's been in New York Met and now that he's finally here now that he's in a
07:03change
07:03of scenery not only what we've seen so far this spring but what Carlos Mendoza's raved about with
07:08him there's no doubt in my mind that Luis Robert's going to have his best offensive season a number of
07:12years and while I don't think he will necessarily put up the same numbers that he did in 2023
07:17interesting connection with Kodai there as well I do think that this will be the second time in
07:21his career where he gives his team a 30 plus homer season Robert each the past two years has sat
07:27right
07:27around 14 home runs or so and a bit less of a sample size due to injury but a healthy
07:32Luis Robert
07:33giving the Mets 500 and north of 600 play appearances this year could do wonders for a Mets outfield that
07:39simply has not have that power in center really since Brandon Nemo going back to when he was in
07:45that position even when Nemo was there he wasn't even known for the home run of hitting yet that
07:49was when he was more established as that true on base Kane bolting down to first and thanking Christ
07:54for being here like that was the usual thing with Brandon but for someone like Luis Robert being as
07:59deep in this Mets lap as he may be and knowing that he may start the season batting his highest
08:04fifth
08:04for the Mets because that's what we're seeing him do in these late spring training games for the Mets
08:07you do have to think this could very well be the year that Robert finally starts to put it together
08:12again that we haven't seen it north of three seasons so here's why I like this one a lot of
08:17people are going to hear that Wardy and they're going to say look man I got to see it I
08:20got to see
08:21it to believe it and I understand that with Luis Robert but that's the same thing like you were
08:24telling me with Kodai Senga right like if this was after 2023 you'd be like yeah I can see that
08:31same thing for Luis Robert Jr right you would probably say the same thing three years ago okay I can
08:36see this
08:36but the talents there I think the reason why I actually like this for you and why I think it's
08:41possible I can't remember exactly where you had him ranked in your most important Mets for the season
08:47but you had him pretty high I remember that you had him as one of these x factors and if
08:52he's in 30 home
08:53runs and he's fifth in the lineup and I think you and I both believe this Mets lineup is going
08:59to be
08:59more dynamic than it was last season but I think so much of that starts when we could talk about
09:03Bo Bichette and we can get in all that but I think a lot of that starts with him with
09:07with this guy
09:08if he's able to do that and then the base dealing too it's good 30 homers from him I like
09:13that number
09:13Wardy I like that number and that number of 30 gets right into my next bold prediction I got 30
09:22home runs for somebody else and hey we talked about 30 home runs and we didn't even bring up the
09:27guy
09:27that used to hit a lot of home runs for the Mets at all whatsoever we didn't we didn't bring
09:30him up so
09:31we're thinking the power is coming from other places I'm going with my guy Francisco Alvarez
09:36I think he finishes with 30 home runs maybe even more and I think he's going to finish as a
09:41top
09:42three offensive catcher in baseball now look we know the guys in baseball who are really dope behind
09:47the plate obviously Kyle Rowley having a fantastic season last year you can talk about Wilson Contreras
09:52as well too up there some of the best catchers in baseball but Francisco Alvarez we heard about the
09:59bat when he came up we saw it from him early on the key for me and I talked about
10:04this the last time
10:04we talked about the most important Mets Wardy I think there was so much and this is why I'm going
10:10to this bold prediction if you want to call it bold because he's another guy you know we need to
10:15see it
10:15we need to see a little bit more with him we we get all that but I liked how he
10:19bounced back last
10:20year he had some tough injury luck but when he went down to Syracuse and came back I like the
10:25focus I like the
10:26attention to detail at the plate and I think now that he's healthy and he's gone through a spring
10:31training knock on wood hopefully he's going to be okay I think that he's going to be comfortable
10:37I think he also has a respect of obviously handling the pitching staff which he's done a fantastic job
10:41of doing but I really think he's going to be comfortable at the plate and look he's not going
10:45to be asked to do too much and I think he could be a surprise guy maybe hitting behind Luis
10:49Robert
10:49and being able to have a lot of opportunities to cash in and we know the power we saw this
10:54from him
10:55when he came up as a rookie why can't he give you some more home runs we projected this guy
11:00could be
11:00a 30 home run guy this is the year he gets it done for me I think this is the
11:04year he's most comfortable
11:05I think it's also a prove it year for him and I think some guys need to just get comfortable
11:09know what they have to do know it has to be done and I just think Alvarez is in a
11:14good space right now
11:15and there's not a lot of pressure on him in this lineup that we think is going to be more
11:19dynamic
11:19so I like him to have a 30 home run season I also think he can hit for a decently
11:23good average
11:24and have a pretty good OPS this season I really think that can happen too for Alvarez we know the
11:29talent is there I think he'll cut down on the strikeouts which I think is going to be huge for
11:33him
11:33huge for him I think he's going to cut down on the strikeouts I think he'll put the ball in
11:37play more
11:37and I think he's going to find the ball over the wall multiple times so 30 home runs for Alvarez
11:43you got 30 for Luis Robert Jr I like that look at both these guys get 30 some of y
11:48'all are going to be
11:49saying Pete Alonso who you're not going to worry about that anymore just saying
11:52Dex this so seamlessly goes into my next prediction but before we get there we're flowing here we're
11:58flowing before I get there let me share the two cents there are two individuals that highlight
12:03what will likely be a very successful season for Alvarez as long as and again you could say this not
12:08only for Robert but for basically any New York Mets as long as they can stay healthy there are two
12:13key
12:13factors for Alvarez this year one is Jeff Albert and the other is JPR at CBA let's start with Jeff
12:19and for
12:20those that don't know Jeff Albert he has been the Mets hitting director as we know in their
12:23organization is going to be impacting them more at the major league level than previous years
12:26and the most important thing about his role is that he was instrumental in Francisco Alvarez making his
12:33proper adjustments when he was sent back down last summer when the Mets said we just got to get you
12:38right because you have not looked the same since returning from your handmaid bone injury the same
12:42one that we know Lindor sustained earlier this spring and should be ready to go for opening day
12:47thankfully now Alvarez when he went down and made his adjustments something was very notable
12:51he went back to being the power pole header that he's supposed to be quite the contrary from former
12:57Mets hitting coaches of that being in Eric Chavez and to a degree in Barnes who steered him at times
13:02in
13:02a different direction away from exactly why he was such a coveted prospect of the age of 16 out of
13:08Venezuela when Mets fans were so hyped about him from the start like you are not a 21 year old
13:14to hit 20 plus home runs at the major league level casually without you clearly having like star
13:20potential as a catcher from an offensive standpoint fast forward a couple years later the injury bug
13:25has hurt him in more ways than one its impact is inconsistencies obviously and when you have so
13:30many different opinions going in and out your ear it makes it hard to decipher what is really best for
13:35him and his offensive approach at the plate pair that with the defensive issues Alvarez a struggle
13:40with overall now is a perfect pairing when we look at Jeff helping on the offensive end and obviously
13:46Troy Snetker who is the newly appointed Mets heading coach this year who's had an abundance of levels of
13:51success where he's won championships of the Houston Astros he just finished being their coach last season
13:56so that's a great relationship to build and then you bring in JPR and Cebia he doesn't help as much
14:01with
14:02your bold claim on offense but he does just about the well-roundedness of a catcher JP is a major
14:07league
14:07veteran that is now the newly appointed Mets catching coach that was there in Syracuse last year
14:12so these kind of minds are going to do wonders for a guy like Alvarez we've already seen the quick
14:17adjustments this spring at the time of us talking right now Alvarez took a Shamanai meatball deep for
14:22a three-run home run today so he's looking fantastic doing his thing and here's the thing if Alvarez is
14:29heading 30 tanks this year if Robert is hitting 30 tanks this year what does that mean it means my
14:35bold
14:35prediction is going to be true for my third and final one the New York Mets are going to hit
14:39more
14:39home runs in 2026 than they did in 2025 and that's notable because the New York Mets were a top
14:46five
14:46team in Major League Baseball last year in home runs they were fifth with 223 so that means no Pete
14:52Alonso no Brandon Nimmo no problem how could this be well we just put it together if our bold claims
14:59become true or get close to becoming true by the season's end the Mets haven't had that production
15:05center field at all during David Stearns's tenure nor have they had that catching production from an
15:09offensive standpoint then you add in oh yeah Jorge Polanco is probably going to hit at least 20 home
15:14runs for you this year oh yeah Brett Beatty if he gets 500 play appearances probably going to hit 20
15:18plus home runs for you this year oh yeah Juan Soto is easily going to hit 40 plus again oh
15:23yeah
15:23Francisco Indoor is going to mess around between 25 to hopefully 30 you look at every position that the
15:28Mets have and of course and Benj plays a full season and gives you north of 20 home runs before
15:34you know what you realize that you just have one of the most balanced lineups in all Major League
15:38Baseball Boba shit's quietly sitting there ready to hit your 20 plus if not more maybe it'll be a
15:43career year for him we'll just have to wait and see but when you look at the depth one through
15:47nine
15:47this lap and a potential bounce back and a Marcus Simien who could get back to being that 20 plus
15:52home run hitter again deeper in this Mets lab not a guy that needs to be the guy just one
15:57of many guys
15:58in this one through nine that's why I'm so bullish and confident where you know maybe if you asked me
16:03a couple months ago I would have said there's no chance in heck that the Mets would actually hit
16:06more home runs but when you look at how they're distributing their offense how they're spreading it
16:11out now there's all the makings and potential for this team to easily be the best offense that we've
16:17ever seen in the Steve Cohen era what's your thoughts about that Dex oh yeah
16:21yeah at first I didn't know where you were going when you said best offense you've ever seen
16:24and then you qualified it with the Steve Cohen era I agree I like I agree I think I know
16:32it's
16:32good here's my thoughts on it people are going to hear you say that Wardy and they're going to say
16:38no that can't be that can't be better than you know teams where you still had Lindor and you still
16:45had Alonzo and no but when you have a Soto you got a Bichette who's a professional hitter we both
16:49have called him that yes there are question marks around certain guys I'm not going to act like
16:54Luis Robert Jr. doesn't have a question mark around him and that Francisco Alvarez who we just went
16:59bold and bullish on doesn't have a question mark I thought about making one of my bold predictions
17:04the same as you I really thought about it that they would hit more home runs than last year
17:08I just think this lineup's a better lineup and I get it take your attach this is what I'll say
17:14to
17:14people please please try take your attachment away from how you feel about homegrown players
17:20like Pete Alonzo or Brandon Nimmo just look at this team and ask yourself do you see this team not
17:26necessarily even I'll even take the power out I know we're talking about power just want to just
17:31take that to the side for a second do you see this team is getting but being better at getting
17:36on base
17:36I do do you see this team possibly being better at just driving balls to the gaps I can see
17:42this team
17:42forget power hitting and home runs I can see them having more doubles than they did last year I
17:47think something like that is something you can see with this lineup so I I'm inclined to agree with
17:51you and I just think the way this lineup is set up I think you're talking about Marcus Simeon down
17:57in
17:57the lineup possibly hitting 20 homers and bouncing back and that would be amazing if that happens I
18:03think the Mets are in a position where they don't need that to happen but it'd be really dope if
18:07it did
18:08and so when you're talking about a lineup like that that's so good because there's so many guys
18:13in front of him that you think have even higher potential to do so much more right and you casually
18:18mentioned Juan Soto in there be like yeah he's good to hit another 40 plus homers again and I agree
18:24which that'll transition to my last point in a second but yeah man I I think that this Mets lineup
18:31can be
18:31really good really dynamic I think they're going to get on base I don't think they're a team that's
18:36going to be gunning for home runs I want to be very clear about that but I think they can
18:40come
18:40in bunches and they have guys that can deliver power when needed and I think some of those hits
18:44are sometimes going to be big and open up games in big ways but I really like this lineup I'm
18:50a big
18:50fan of this lineup and it's just the way David Stearns has built this lineup is a little bit more
18:55of
18:55the way I personally like baseball to be played I still would probably like if there was a little bit
19:01more small ball we're probably not going to see that but I just think more better situational
19:05hitting more balls hit to the gaps guys who can get on base have good eyes and have good at
19:10bats
19:10quality bats and make pitches work that's what I like Wardy I love that too and listen if the Mets
19:15end up not being better than what they were last year in home runs that's okay because as you
19:20mentioned I think that they will supplement that perfectly fine by going gap to gap as good as
19:25they're going to do again Boba Shett was one of the best hitters in all major league baseball last
19:28year when it came to doubles so like that should be a very common and reoccurring thing with the Mets
19:32where you're seeing them not only put the bat on the ball but they're getting these extra base
19:36hits pretty consistently either way they're perfectly primed in position like I said to be
19:41deeper more balanced than they ever have been before and while this is a bold prediction show
19:46I don't think that's a at all an irrational take from a rational Mets fan point of view and I
19:51hope
19:51that you Mets fans watching this let me know in the comments down below how you feel about this
19:55specifically because again even for bold predictions these are not the most outlandish things
20:00imaginable these are all things very much in the realm of possibility and I'm not saying possibility
20:04like you know we're talking about a needle in a haystack possibility right it's actually logical
20:09like Robert had 38 home runs in the 2023 season right Freddie Peralta has been a scion caliber pitcher
20:15each of the past couple years Kodai Senga was a scion finalist around 30 starts in 2023 you know
20:21the Mets hit a boatload of home runs last year and they have a really good lineup why can't they
20:26do it
20:26again so you know I'm with you Dex I'm feeling pretty confident about these can I ask you a quick
20:31question because probably I'm just curious to know from you because I don't know this from you
20:34what do you believe is the best which year do you think the Mets had the best lineup that you've
20:39seen
20:39in your lifetime as a Mets fan the best lineup the Mets have had that I've seen as a Mets
20:45fan that's a
20:46great question because you know I as much as that magical run was in 2015 they were horrendous and up
20:54until basically this was acquired and even then you know they were they really didn't get things in
21:00unison the way you wanted until playoffs which is not a bad thing it was great but I don't know
21:05if I
21:05view that as the best lineup I've ever seen I would probably have to venture to guess and say that
21:10currently the best Mets live I've seen to this point has a lot to do with what we saw in
21:162024 I can't
21:18get over the type of run the Mets had in 2024 the balance that they had in 2024 was really
21:26fantastic to me
21:27and you know there were obviously times where you had your peaks and valleys I understand that but from
21:32my fandom point of view that's why like for example I'm not going to sit here and say 06 because
21:37I was
21:376 and 06 I wasn't locked in me that's the best I've seen that's and that's completely valid and if
21:42I was
21:43more locked in at the age of 6 I would 100% agree with you right I'm just sharing from
21:47my personal
21:47experience right that's why I asked I would say 2024 because it was the most electric the most
21:52entertaining and the most never say die lineup it wasn't just the fact that they had so many different
21:57ways to beat you it was the fact that even if that life was struggling throughout the first eight
22:02innings you knew they were going to show up in the ninth inning that was the difference making this
22:06team was as clutch as they could get and that's what I desperately miss and I'm wanting to see again
22:11from this Mets team because the clutch factor has not been there since the end of the 2024 playoff run
22:17so we're waiting what we are most certainly in a waiting period when it comes to this no that's a
22:21good answer and that's why I framed it that way because like what have you seen you know because
22:25all depends on what you've seen as a Mets fan I think for me it's definitely 2006 um but 2024
22:30is
22:31right there now 2024 I don't think it's as talented as 2006 you might even argue it's not as
22:37talented a lineup as 2015 but I do agree with your point with 2015 a lot of the turnaround didn't
22:42start till late didn't start till Cespedes got there so you didn't really see that change and
22:47then even then that stretch was a little shaky at times some games you didn't hit um you're right
22:51with Daniel Murphy's emergence in that season right which was amazing which is a playoff run for the
22:57ages um in terms of hitting so yeah that was good I just was curious about that but for my
23:02last
23:03bowl take before we get to win totals I joked about how Wardy casually mentioned Juan Soto
23:10hitting over 40 home runs and so here's the thing Juan Soto had a bunch of career highs
23:15in his first season with the Mets right 43 home runs he had 38 stolen bases which was
23:21maybe the thing I didn't see coming right no one saw coming nobody saw that coming the first person
23:27that predicted that I need to know what their lotto numbers are because there's no way that makes sense
23:30at all yeah please please let us know right had 127 walks and this was a year that a good
23:38amount
23:38of the fan base was like started off slow there was the rumors I don't know if he wants to
23:44be here
23:45all this other stuff from the time Wardy has joined the shows as the co-host of me we were
23:52doing these
23:52episodes we talked about comfortability we've talked about things in the clubhouse and I think we both
23:57believe that Juan Soto is going to be more comfortable this year you saw how comfortable
24:01he looked with the Dominican national team I mean that whole team looked comfortable to play right
24:05they just all looked comfortable but here's the thing folks I'm going with a bold prediction I think
24:11Juan Soto was so comfortable he is going to be chilling and flushing he is going to have even a
24:17better season than we saw last year and last season was pretty dope even though some of you guys wanted
24:22to
24:22say it was okay no it wasn't okay 43 home runs and 38 stolen bases it's great 127 walks amazing
24:29but
24:30here's what I'm going to say everybody's saying hey this year why can Soto not get to the 40-40
24:35club
24:35man forget the 40-40 club we're not even talking about the 40-40 club we're moving to the 50
24:40-50 club
24:41Juan Soto has a season for the ages he's going to reach the 50-50 club Wardy forget the 40
24:47-40 we are
24:48passing that we're going past it I said it with my chest Juan Soto 50-50 club in 2026
24:55Dex if Juan Soto has a 50-50 season I'm going to have to gift you something Juan Soto related
25:01by
25:01the year's end I think that's pretty fitting okay granted Juan would have given me more than a
25:06greater gift that I could ever ask for with that kind of thing so I won't be able to be
25:10as good as
25:10that but most certainly we'll get you something Juan Soto related because if Juan Soto has a 50-50
25:15season one the Mets have to be making playoffs right that's what you would hope and secondly
25:21why wouldn't they have a monster run if you're having a player that dynamic realistically like
25:26if you have a guy that essentially is going up there averaging a home run at that kind of rate
25:31and when he's not averaging a home run he's getting on base the rate the rate that he is with
25:35north of
25:36130 walks and then you add in the stolen bases like it's it's so it's so hard to fathom but
25:43at the
25:43same time it really isn't it really isn't that bold what do you think about it he just needs
25:48just under 10 more home runs which means he just needs to be steady basically all throughout the
25:53year or he needs like one month where he's ridiculous like where he's had the best month
25:58of his entire career that kind of thing power wise and then the base running again just need
26:02over 10 stolen bags you know Antoine Richardson who we got Gilbert Gomez we'll be fine nothing to worry
26:09about and that's we'll figure it out and listen if it doesn't happen it's okay but I think that's
26:13a very valuable take that again stays true to what we talked about Dex it isn't completely out of the
26:19realm of possibility and I think if you said to Mets fans a bold prediction heading into last season
26:26that Soda would have 40 plus home runs and just under 40 stolen bases they would have called you the
26:32most heinous things imagined they would have said Dexter you have no clue what you're taught even for a
26:36bold take this is ridiculous his career high is 12 stolen bases and you think he's going to get
26:41north of 40 sure buddy sure go ahead I got some bridges to sell you but now after seeing this
26:46I
26:46don't think this is as bold as people are making out to be I had my reaction but I love
26:50it the more
26:51that I'm talking about and thinking about Dex great call yeah I had to go on one that was a
26:54little bit
26:55bolder but I think all I'm glad you said this then we'll get to our predict season predictions real
27:01quick absolutely get out of here these are all rooted in things we've either seen or close to
27:06have seen right so it's not that wild for us to say this so those are our bold predictions uh
27:12there
27:12for the season now we've got a little bit of time left so win total that is the big thing
27:18for everybody
27:18how many games will the Mets win this season Wardy I'm gonna let you kick it off first I don't
27:24know
27:24what you think and we have not talked about this at all even off camera Wardy and I and our
27:29phone
27:29conversation stuff we haven't even talked about this so I'm very curious as how many games you
27:33think the Mets could win this season what are you saying so there's a couple different ways to look
27:38at approaching this Mets season because you obviously know that so much went wrong last
27:43year and even then they didn't make playoffs until the final day of the season right that's something
27:47to bear in mind then you think of okay the Philadelphia Phillies were pretty much abysmal and were
27:53you know below 500 for the entire like the entire second half last year and they still finished
27:59with 96 wins so if the Phillies can have the run that they had at times and I could be
28:04getting
28:05them flip-flop from the season prior they just they've had a tendency to start off a season really
28:09hot and then just kind of cruise at best for the entire second half if the Phillies can get 96
28:15wins
28:15last year with the pitching that they had I don't look at this Mets pitching staff right now I say
28:19to
28:19myself it's as good on paper as what the Phillies were to begin last season but I do think they're
28:24very good and far more deep than they were a year prior between the offense the pitching and the
28:29bullpen I think this is going to be a 93 win team for the New York Mets this year which
28:34will either
28:34have them just winning the division or most certainly making playoffs there in the wild card I think
28:39that's a realistic number I think they'll get past that 91 column I think they'll have enough stability
28:44enough steadiness with their lineup one through nine throughout the year obviously injuries are
28:48inevitable I understand that but God willing not everything goes wrong at the same time the way it did
28:53with the pitching staff last year that's really the bar that we're dealing with in order for this to
28:57be a better season so I think that this team has all the makings to be not only a playoff
29:02team but a
29:03team that 93 maybe it doesn't win it in this division because you know how much of a gauntlet will
29:08be with
29:09the Phillies but when you have a team like the Atlanta Braves with so much uncertainty entering the
29:13season again with all their rotation issues at the time of talking Spencer Strider's out long term
29:18with an oblique injury again Schwellenbach isn't coming back anytime soon like outside of Chris
29:23Sale a lot of their horses in that rotation are not going to be there for a bit and that's
29:27going
29:27to be to their detriment naturally I mean that's what you would think of course heading into the
29:31season and then you look at the Marlins as talented as they are while they'll be pesky you know the
29:36Marlins are still going to be the Marlins and the Nationals are the Nationals more stolen more of a
29:40rebuild retool than what they were even last season so I look at how the Mets can take advantage of
29:46playing against teams not only the NL East but the rest of the National League and I think they
29:50are most certainly positioned to find themselves around that 93 win column how do you feel about
29:55that Dex and how does that compare contrast with your respective pick we are very close in terms of
30:01our win total a lot of the for a lot of the reasons you said I believe in this this
30:06lineup's balance I
30:08think the pitching is going to just have a lot maybe I'm stronger on the pitching than maybe some other
30:12people will be and even if some guys do not bounce back in the way you think listen I'm a
30:19little bit
30:19concerned about shamanized velocity being down obviously he's not going to be in the starting
30:24five for the rotation as we start the season uh here but I do like what the Mets the decision
30:30they
30:30made on that I will say that to be clear I'm like how the Mets are handling that um I
30:35think it's
30:36pitching bounce back and I think there's guys that maybe aren't even up here now with the big club
30:40that are going to really impact this team as we go through the season we just I won't go into
30:46it
30:46too much more we wax poetic about the lineup I am just a win off of Wardy here and I
30:51had a win below
30:51I was at 92 wins here um but I also think there's a world in which 92 wins or 93
30:57if Wardy is correct
30:58can win the division for them I think it's going to be a dogfight with the Phillies um I think
31:05the
31:05Mets could win this yes the Braves I will always respect the Braves and we know going down Atlanta is
31:10a
31:10house of horrors for the Mets it doesn't matter who they have down there it's a problem for the
31:14Mets when they go down there I don't have to tell that to the fan base you guys know that
31:17very well
31:18um but I the bottom of the division except Marlins will be pesky they'll win some games against the
31:22Mets the Mets probably should not lose to them but they will um the Nats or the Nats they got
31:27to
31:27clean up against those teams I just think the Mets are one of the more balanced teams in the in
31:31the
31:32National League um I think the key for me is will they be getting better in August September as they
31:37get
31:37late into the season that'll be the key but I think this is definitely a 90 plus win team
31:40if you would have asked me probably two three months ago I would have said to you 88 89 wins
31:46but I just have more confidence in the plan is what's what's going on and Freddie Peralta is a
31:49huge part of why I feel more confident in the pitching so yeah 92 wins for me so you got
31:5492 for
31:55me 93 we're a win apart we hadn't talked about this look like I did 6-7 but I wasn't
31:59trying to do that
32:00but yeah there you go 93 wins for Wardy 92 wins for Dex um division I'm not gonna predict that
32:09but I
32:10will say I think they make the playoffs for sure I think they will be in as a playoff team
32:13I think the
32:14Mets go to playoffs I will save my prediction of how far I think they will go till later um
32:21I'm just
32:22gonna say I think they're a playoff team I need to see a little bit more if I get to
32:25that but I'll say
32:25their playoff team that's valid and I I don't think you can look at them right now and like
32:30fully confidently say that they're gonna win the division you know and like anything else this is
32:34a prediction show I understand that but we'll let some time marinate a little bit before coming to
32:38that kind of conclusion you know we got a long year so we'll circle back on this no doubt but
32:42Dex as
32:43always always a tremendous conversation and uh do you have any final words that you would like to share
32:48with the people before we get out of here no man just hey man the season's gonna be a long
