00:00We continue best off seasons.
00:01People see it live here on YouTube.
00:04We see the flag in Ryan's background.
00:07It's the New York Mets.
00:08And how could it not be the New York Mets?
00:12Now, two weeks ago, Mets fans were concerned.
00:17And I understood.
00:18But Ryan here said, pump the brakes.
00:22Let Stearns cook.
00:24And that's exactly what he did.
00:25Bringing in Bo Bichette.
00:27Bringing in Freddie Peralta.
00:28Signing Devin Williams.
00:30Signing Jorge Polanco.
00:32Trading for Luis Robert.
00:33He brought in Luis Robert, Freddie Peralta, and Bo Bichette in a matter of five days.
00:39But he also traded away Brandon Nimmo for Marcus Semien.
00:42Brought in Luke Weaver in the bullpen.
00:44And Ryan, make sure I don't forget every time.
00:47They also brought in Luis Garcia.
00:50They brought in Luis Garcia.
00:53I haven't even asked you this question yet.
00:55What's your favorite move that the Mets have made so far?
00:58Because now you have a Rolodex of options.
01:01You know you needed a starter.
01:02But you also needed a bat.
01:04You needed to improve the bullpen.
01:06You've filled a lot of needs.
01:08But what is your personal favorite so far?
01:11I had to include Luis Garcia.
01:13Because it's my...
01:13No.
01:14For me, I think my favorite move...
01:18It's tough.
01:19I would say the Freddie Peralta move was the one that I think this team needed the most.
01:25And really just put a stamp on this offseason.
01:28The one that I'm most excited to see play out is Bo Bichette.
01:31Like, I can't...
01:32That's the one for me that allowed Mets fans to sort of turn the page on Pete Alonso.
01:38And all of the talk about, you know, moving on from the past core.
01:42And the fans that were upset about that.
01:44Once you've got Bo Bichette, it's like, oh, okay.
01:46Now this lineup looks a lot of fun.
01:48It looks like a team that fans can get behind.
01:52And yeah, that one through three of Lindor, Soto, Bichette, that's what I'm looking forward
01:56to watching the most.
01:58I'm totally on board with the contract where, you know, he is so incentivized to have a monster
02:05season and prove he can play third base.
02:07Because if he can do that, if Bo Bichette just repeats his offensive season and has zero
02:13outs above average at third base, just proves that he can play the position, he is going
02:16to make so much money in free agency next year as the best bat available.
02:21And so I just like the bet on guys who have something to play for too.
02:26Bo Bichette, Luis Robert.
02:28These are guys who are in their physical prime, who are playing for their next deal.
02:33I really like the upside that the Mets have added this offseason.
02:37And they've gotten a hell of a lot better defensively too.
02:40I want to stick on Bo Bichette.
02:42Also a good comment here.
02:43Don't forget about Craig Kimbrell signed to a minor league deal.
02:46But I want to stick on Bichette for a second.
02:48Because Stearns came out this offseason and said that run prevention was going to be very
02:54important.
02:55And when he made the trade for Marcus Semien, trading away Brandon Immo, who I think we
03:00both can agree right now is the better bat, but Semien is the better defender.
03:04You thought you're buying into, you know, a run prevention based offseason.
03:09Luis Robert, I think, answers that exact question as well.
03:12Bo Bichette doesn't.
03:14Because his first year playing third base and one of the concerns for Bichette defensively
03:20is his arm.
03:22It's not a very good arm over there.
03:25And now you're moving him over to third base.
03:27So the more you've sat with it, the more you've dove in to Bo Bichette's profile.
03:32How do you think he adjusts to year one at third base?
03:35Because I think of Alex Rodriguez moving over to third base when the Yankees brought him
03:40in.
03:41You know, of course, he's not going to play shortstop because you got Jeter there.
03:44And he was one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball.
03:46And he even had growing pains in his first season.
03:50So how do you think Bichette will be in year one?
03:54So I think for me, the context is important because the Mets, they were trying to get Kyle
03:59Tucker.
04:00And defensively, that would have been a much more seamless fit and would have led into
04:04the run prevention.
04:05Having Kyle Tucker in the outfield, you keep Brett Beatty at third.
04:08It would have been a better defensive team.
04:10But when you couldn't get Tucker, you needed the bat.
04:12So yes, that was a signing where it turned into more about run production than run prevention.
04:17But still, it's going to be an easier position for him to play at third than short.
04:22I think if you think about those plays in the hole that Bo Bichette had to make, that's
04:27a longer throw than the throw from third base.
04:30So I think I'm not as worried about it.
04:33I don't think he has to be outstanding for the Mets defense to be better.
04:36Remember, there was a lot of games last year in the last couple of years where Mark Vientos
04:41is over at third base.
04:42And that is a low bar for Bo Bichette to get over.
04:45So I think overall, yes.
04:47Is that potentially an issue?
04:48I think the Mets have some concerns in their corner infield spots.
04:52And obviously, there's the Juan Soto part of right field that's always going to kind
04:56of ding your defense.
04:58But I think run prevention-wise, having Simeon at second and Luis Robert in center, you've
05:03got better up the middle.
05:05And having Carson Benjen left, which is eventually what's going to happen, even if he doesn't break
05:10camp, that's going to be a significant upgrade defensively over Brandon Nemo.
05:15So I think overall, they got better defensively.
05:18At third base and first base, they had to just get the best bat that they could.
05:22But both with Jorge Polanco and Bo Bichette, you have former shortstops.
05:26And I do think that Davis Derns kind of likes the range that those guys have at those positions.
05:32And I think it's going to be all right.
05:33But yes, it couldn't be a run prevention move at every spot because you still had to replace
05:39all that run production that you were losing by moving off of Alonzo.
