00:02What we're doing is we are about to hopefully upgrade.
00:08We've got a preview of the new Xbox 360 Dashboard
00:14that will be coming out generally available in November.
00:19There's the update notification right there as you can see
00:23letting us know that we have an update.
00:24We're going to go ahead and say yes, update now.
00:28And that starts the update process.
00:31And yeah, like I said, so this is going to be the new
00:34there you see it's downloading the update from Xbox Live.
00:36It already has a newer look and feel to it.
00:40Different than pretty much any other update that they've done in the past.
00:57This update brings a bunch of things to the Xbox 360.
01:02Netflix gets a search, which isn't a huge feature,
01:05but it's something that we are definitely going to appreciate.
01:07Zoom is going to be a part of this.
01:10ESPN is going to be a part of this.
01:13And quite a bit more, so let's just get started.
01:15There's the new boot up sequence.
01:23Updates being applied now.
01:28So some other features, like I said, ESPN,
01:31which is going to be bringing live games as well as games on demand.
01:38Zune.
01:39Zune's already been a part of the Xbox experience,
01:41but that's only been for TV and movies.
01:43Zune is now going to do music,
01:46which is really what Zune is known for
01:48as opposed to video content.
01:50So you're going to be able to use your Zune Pass,
01:52stream content,
01:54get social features there.
01:56Netflix search, like I said.
01:59The avatars look a little more,
02:01I guess, human in a way.
02:05Which actually was done to make them
02:07work better with some games for Kinect
02:10because the avatar sometimes stands in your place
02:12and if they don't look exactly right
02:14as far as their body type is concerned,
02:18you as a player kind of get tricked out
02:22in your movements and how you should be moving around.

02:32There's a new dashboard.
02:35You kind of hear the new sounds that they have.
02:44And it looks like,

02:54as far as setting up your Xbox Live passcode.

03:26which even that's been changed a little bit.
03:29As you can see,
03:29when you scroll over to a friend,
03:31they kind of jump out at you.
03:39Again, everything's a little more square.
03:47There's the welcome.
03:50And here's a Xbox Beta area,
03:54which probably just gives us a look at
03:57what's new, what's changed.
04:01Of course, also a big part of this is Kinect.
04:06We do not have a Kinect demo unit yet, though,
04:09so we can't show any of that kind of stuff.

04:15So let's go into one of the new things here.
04:18Let's go into music.
04:26So there's Zune.
04:28It says it's basically you have to update the Zune app.
04:30We'll do that right now.
04:31I personally liked the more rounded dynamic look
04:38for the Xbox 360 dashboard than this one,
04:42but with the Kinect hand movements and everything
04:44and navigation,
04:45this one does make a little more sense
04:47as far as just being able to reach into the air
04:50and kind of move around.
04:54So there's Zune.
04:55It already has my,
04:57since my gamertag is also my Zune username,
04:59I should be able to just get logged right in,
05:00I'm assuming.
05:04All right, so there's movies,
05:07TV, music videos.
05:10So I am really not quite sure
05:15where the Zune music is.
05:20So let's just jump back out to the dashboard
05:23because I'm kind of confused right now.
05:29All right, I'm in the music marketplace here.
05:33Back into Zune.
05:34Let's see what happens.
05:36What I'm looking to do is get into my Zune pass
05:40and play some tracks.
05:43There we go.
05:44So now it says Zune music.

05:52They've got the smart DJ feature here.
05:54Basically, it's kind of like Pandora
05:55where you just put in an artist or song that you like.
05:59Or I guess here it's just artists
06:00and it'll kind of play music
06:01that it thinks you'll enjoy based on that artist.

06:09This will just pretty much probably show me

09:43voice chat with up to seven other friends while watching a game
09:47and you can even customize it so you can basically have a reminder of events you want to see and
09:52things like that
09:53so it's finally getting started here

13:18so I don't know that I'd ever really go into there much

13:33I'm assuming there might be an update here
13:35interesting that the Netflix boot up screen still has the older look
13:39and feel of the Xbox 360
13:42and yeah actually there it is

13:46they didn't really update this

13:54one thing about Netflix
13:55is there's supposed to be
13:57a search now

16:04rather than the controller

16:11but you know I don't know that too many people use

16:16most people I know don't
16:19even if they have kids

16:24this is actually being recorded a few days after
16:28the video you just watched
16:29only because
16:30Netflix wasn't actually working
16:34Netflix wasn't working correctly
16:36I couldn't get any of the new features to work
16:39and it turns out
16:40it's just because the new version of Netflix
16:42hadn't been available to download
16:44so we've got that updated now
16:47six days later
16:48let's jump into Netflix
16:49and show you what's changed
16:56because you can see the splash screen
16:58already a little different
17:00the loading icon
17:11all right there we go
17:12there's Netflix
17:17so if we just go to
17:20as we just scroll through
17:21you'll see
17:23things look fairly different
17:27we can scroll through
17:29and you see it's just
17:30again side to side
17:31same kind of changes we've seen elsewhere
17:35um...
17:36but one difference is usually the X button
17:38would be an add to Q
17:40um... but now what you can see
17:42X is search
17:44so if I hit X
17:47brings up search
17:48and then you just choose letters
17:49to start typing in a search
17:51so if I say D
17:54immediately as you see it updates
17:56with content that it thinks you're looking for
17:59let's go to E
18:02so if I'm looking for Dexter
18:04as you can see I've got
18:06two seasons right there
18:07Dear John, first
18:10Defiance, Dead Like Me, Dead Man Walking
18:12etc
18:14if we throw in
18:17the X
18:21there's Dexter
18:22and then as you see as we scroll over
18:27um...
18:28here
18:29if you hit Y it'll start playing those
18:31because they're instant streaming
18:32but here on these where it says DVD only
18:35if you hit X you'll actually add it to your DVD queue
18:37rather than your instant queue
18:39which is pretty cool because now you're able to add things directly
18:44to your Netflix
18:46DVD queue
18:48which was never possible before
18:52so...
18:53definitely very nice
18:54and if you want to play something you could use Dexter
18:57there you see it says play season
18:59or play episode 5
19:02reason for that is because I'm up to episode 4
19:05so this will update every time you watch an episode
19:10so you don't have to go and find the one that you're up to
19:12or try to remember your spot
19:13it'll kind of do that for you
19:16again very nice
19:18let's jump back out
19:20that's search
19:20again if you want to ever go into search
19:23you just hit the X button
19:24so if you want to add something to your instant queue
19:26you actually have to go into it
19:28and there you go add to instant queue
19:30and it'll take you right in
19:33so there's the info screen as well
19:36again they've revamped that
19:38it seems like there's a lot of wasted space on the sides
19:41but...
19:41still I think it looks a lot better than it did
19:45previously
19:54and then if you want to play something
19:57let's see if we can find something that would actually look good

20:43so it's a visual makeover
20:45they've added search
20:47tweaked things a little bit
20:48but it's really the same Netflix that you're accustomed to
20:52so we'll jump back out

20:54I mean it's pretty much the same Xbox 360
20:56but the main features again ESPN is here
20:58Zune Music is here
21:00this is really their way of trying to get people to use
21:02or buy a Zune Pass
21:04this plus Windows Phone 7 launching
21:06around the same time that this dashboard is going to be launching
21:09is their, I guess their renewed push for Zune
21:13ESPN like we just said
21:14Netflix which picks up a search feature
21:16which I know a ton of people have been asking for
21:18that's really it
