00:50Wow, so you guys are not only doing what people want, but you're kind of taking a little bit further.
00:53There's also some, one of the areas where you guys have been working hard on is parties and party chat.
00:59You're doing some really neat stuff with party chats this update, correct?
01:02Party chat is a fundamental experience on Xbox Live, and there are some scenarios where our customers aren't able to
01:07chat with each other for a variety of different reasons.
01:09If you're having connectivity issues or something like that.
01:11Connectivity or privacy settings or things that are not obvious why they can't just chat with their friends.
01:17Right.
01:18And so we're making it easier for them to identify those issues and troubleshoot them.
01:21So what does that mean?
01:23So you're going to get a little pop-up on the screen that tells you, hey, we're having a problem,
01:25or what does that mean?
01:26Well, so it's all going to be in the party chat experience.
01:29Okay.
01:29So the Snap app, and so let's just take it scenario by scenario.
01:34One of the most common scenarios is you actually have your headset disconnected, or you have your Connect microphone disabled
01:44for chat.
01:45We're just going to give you a little message saying that your microphone is not enabled for chat.
01:49Right.
01:49You'll be able to click through to that into the appropriate area of settings and change it.
01:54Right.
01:54And then because that'll minimize some of the, can you hear me?
01:56Is this thing on?
01:57Hello?
01:57Hello?
01:57A lot of that, as the party, you know, as you join a party, some people may have, to your
02:01point, they may not have their headset or Connect plugged in, or your privacy settings as well, right?
02:06That's right.
02:07So the next common scenario that we encounter is a lot of people have their privacy settings set to only
02:13chat with friends.
02:14Right.
02:15And so, but we don't share the same friends necessarily.
02:18Sure.
02:18So I invite you to a party, and you invite one of your friends to a party, and I may
02:22not, if my privacy settings are set, so I only talk to my friends.
02:26You're not going to hear the other people in the party.
02:28That's right.
02:28Right.
02:28And so when that occurs, we'll let you know, and then you'll be able to click through that into your
02:32privacy settings and adjust it.
02:34Right.
02:34Or you can just add them as a friend.
02:36Right.
02:36And solve the problem that way.
02:37Awesome.
02:38So cool stuff coming for party chat, those great improvements.
02:40Now, in addition to everything else, Richard, I understand you're adding dedicated chat servers to help out in certain situations.
02:46Yeah.
02:46So in the other scenario has to do with network configuration.
02:51And so the best experience for multiplayer and for party chat is going to be on an open or a
02:58moderate NAT configuration.
03:00Sure.
03:00It's not possible for every customer to go in and manipulate their router settings to give them the perfect settings.
03:06And so when the party chat encounters problems because of a strict NAT, we're going to start to route that
03:13user's chat experience through a dedicated server that makes it possible for the entire party to chat together without having
03:21to reconfigure your NAT.
03:22Richard, in the February Xbox One update, you added this feature called Game Hubs, but now you're extending that in
03:27the latest update.
03:28Tell us about that.
03:29With the April update, we're making Game Hubs easier for you to discover.
03:33And so now in your activity feed, let's say I'm looking at my activity feed and I see you've unlocked
03:39an achievement from Ori and the Blind Forest.
03:42When I go through the details on that, there's going to be a link back to the Game Hub so
03:47that I can really immerse myself in the world of that game, the game DVR clips, the activity feed for
03:53that game, other things that the Game Hub has to offer in talking about the game.
03:58Richard, one of the most important parts of the Xbox platform is achievements. You guys have tweaked the achievements notification
04:03a little bit on Xbox One.
04:04That's right. So now with the April update, when you unlock an achievement, you're going to see all the relevant
04:10details about the achievement without leaving your game.
04:12You're going to see the gamer score. You're going to see the name of the achievement. And what we are
04:16adding is the description of the achievement.
04:18So you can get it all right there. Of course, you can still press and hold the Xbox button. It'll
04:21open up the achievement section and you can go right in there.
04:23That's right. I want to talk about What's On. This is a feature that was delivered a few months ago
04:27in preview program, but you guys are tweaking it a little bit.
04:29So we're continuing our preview of What's On to to get it just right before we release it to the
04:35rest of the world.
04:35And we're adding some personalization to What's On, where the staff picks content is going to be targeted based on
04:44games that you have recently played.
04:47And so you're going to see a slightly more personalized view when you view What's On.
04:52Great work this month. That's the Xbox One April system update. Richard Irvin from the engineering team, thank you for
04:57stopping by.
04:57Always great to be here. Thank you.
