00:00:00one down two to go IBF champ Steve
00:00:02Forbes the latest entry in the
00:00:03junior lightweight sweepstakes the
00:00:05new kid on the block but before he
00:00:07can count himself in with the 130
00:00:09pound in crowd or hope for
00:00:10inclusion in any kind of
00:00:12unification series he needs to
00:00:14score a convincing victory over
00:00:15his opponent tonight John Brown
00:00:17will be beat in controversial
00:00:18fashion when an ear injury halted
00:00:21the fight for the first fight was
00:00:25very rough fight you know it was
00:00:28one of them fights that has to be
00:00:31continued you know I didn't know at
00:00:33first but I seen him kind of grimace
00:00:35and kind of grabbed me and and then I
00:00:38you know I looked and I seen a lot of
00:00:39blood coming from you know it's on his
00:00:42shoulder and then right then I knew
00:00:43there was something wrong I think a
00:00:46couple judges had him ahead and one
00:00:48judge had me ahead by one point it was
00:00:49such a close fight that I think it
00:00:53deserves a rematch just because I want
00:00:55to get it straight you know as well I
00:00:58think you're gonna see a good boxing
00:01:00lesson this fight the way I train for
00:01:04this and the game plan that I have for
00:01:07this is gonna be it's gonna be a good
00:01:10fight for me in my career I was never
00:01:12built up to be a world champion I just
00:01:14kept winning you know I was never had a
00:01:18stage where you're gonna build this guy
00:01:19up I just kept winning and kind of snuck
00:01:21up on a championship when people don't
00:01:23expect a lot from you it leaves a bigger
00:01:26stage to show you know what you're made
00:01:28of and here comes the champion Steve
00:01:33Forbes behind one of the officials
00:01:35there he is who brought back Floyd
00:01:37Mayweather senior to train him
00:01:39replacing Miguel Diaz said even though
00:01:41he won he fought the wrong fight the
00:01:42original beating was lured into a
00:01:44machismo thing he should fight less on
00:01:47the inside box more use more movement
00:01:49and jabber said he hasn't fought since
00:01:52December because of an injured lower
00:01:54back Bobby he still has to prove he's a
00:01:56championship caliber 130 pounder
00:01:58what's your take on this guy you know
00:02:00Forbes is a very good boxer with some
00:02:02pretty good defense nice speed but not
00:02:03a lot of power only a few knockouts
00:02:05in his wins and he hasn't really been
00:02:07truly tested against top quality
00:02:08opposition the last time he was really
00:02:10tested was in the first fight with
00:02:11John Brown and two of the three
00:02:12judges when the fight came to its
00:02:14untimely end had Brown ahead so I think
00:02:17the jury's still out on him after
00:02:18tonight we should have a much better
00:02:19idea he's only lost March 2000 a
00:02:21decision to Alejandro Gonzalez he's
00:02:23five and 0 cents and the challenger
00:02:265-2 John Brown this is one angry
00:02:28outspoken man in a rage that the
00:02:31first fight with Forbes here at this
00:02:33venue was stopped under the
00:02:34circumstances contending the cut and
00:02:37bleeding was on the outside of the
00:02:38year not the inside he claimed the
00:02:40IVF in essence stopped it not the
00:02:42doctor serious charges he was ahead on
00:02:45two of the three cards when the so
00:02:47ball punctured eardrum ended it in
00:02:48the eighth he's been in there with
00:02:49Shane Mosley Diego Corrales Hazer
00:02:52Chavez he took Chavez and Corrales
00:02:54the distance this is one driven
00:02:55hungry fighter Bobby you know what
00:02:57this guy John Brown has a fighter's
00:02:59mindset a warrior's mindset I like
00:03:01the way he thinks he came to fight
00:03:03that's all he wants to know about
00:03:04he's short he has to be
00:03:05aggressive get on the inside he is
00:03:07intense and very very focused I've
00:03:10never seen anything quite like this
00:03:11recently he will try to get into
00:03:14the chest of Steve Forbes from the
00:03:16start let's check the numbers as we
00:03:18go to the tail of the tape and they
00:03:19favor Forbes nine years younger than
00:03:21Brown five inches taller a three and a
00:03:24half inch reach advantage and
00:03:25yesterday's weigh-in both at 130
00:03:27tonight Forbes 134 Brown 133 and a
00:03:30half and the key rules for this IVF
00:03:33title fight no standing eight count no
00:03:36three knockdown rule a fighter cannot
00:03:37be saved by the bell in any round if an
00:03:39accidental headbutt occurs before the
00:03:41end of the fourth round the fighters
00:03:42ruled a technical draw if it occurs
00:03:45after the end of round four they go to
00:03:46the scorecard so here at mickasuke
00:03:49getting ready for Steve Forbes and
00:03:50John Brown for the IVF junior

00:04:54fight fans 12 rounds of boxing for the
00:04:57IVF lightweight championship of the
00:05:00world presenting first the challenger in
00:05:03the blue corner wearing the gold trunks

00:05:23ranked IVF junior lightweight contender
00:05:25john brown his opponent across the ring in the red corner is wearing the black trunks with white and gold

00:05:46pounds his record an outstanding one 19 wins one loss with five knockouts please welcome the defending
00:05:55indian ibf junior lightweight champion of the world steve for
00:06:01indian ib иск
00:06:20indian ibof squishy
00:06:32He's got a big one.
00:06:32He's got a big one.
00:06:34He's got a big one.
00:06:34Final instructions from Frank
00:06:35Santori out of Orlando Florida.
00:06:38They call him two pound Steve
00:06:39Ford because at birth he was two
00:06:41pounds.
00:06:41He's increased by about one hundred
00:06:43twenty eight.
00:06:44He's clever tricky not a big
00:06:46banger mostly a counter puncher
00:06:47looks to out box and not much of
00:06:50a mover.
00:06:51Brown his fourth shot at a world
00:06:52title is mentioned only five two
00:06:54short even for this weight.
00:06:55So he normally has to tie Bobby
00:06:57put it work his way inside to
00:06:59overcome his opponent's height and
00:07:01reach advantages.
00:07:02He is not a big puncher but he
00:07:05does have some pop.
00:07:06He is very aggressive offensive
00:07:07minded awkward presses forward.
00:07:10And he keeps a fast pace.
00:07:15He's one of those tough little
00:07:16buzz saws that's always in your
00:07:18face always coming and it's hard
00:07:19to get more very annoying
00:07:21sometimes very resilient no
00:07:24quick good chin well conditioned
00:07:26discipline.
00:07:28You feel good at Steve.
00:07:31Forbes a well schooled boxer
00:07:33with good speed and skills
00:07:34Forbes in the black trunks.
00:07:37Brown of the gold trim with black.
00:07:42You have to wonder a little bit
00:07:43about the sharpness and
00:07:44conditioning of Forbes.
00:07:45This is first fight in two
00:07:47thousand and one.
00:07:48his last fight was with Brown
00:07:50about ten months ago.
00:07:51Brown fought about five months
00:07:52ago.
00:07:55Forbes raised in Portland Oregon
00:07:57by his grandmother moved in
00:07:59with his mother at seventeen in
00:08:01Tacoma and went to Las Vegas on
00:08:03his own to further his career at
00:08:05nineteen.
00:08:06Richard Steele the former referee
00:08:08pointed him in the right direction.
00:08:22John Brown the antithesis of
00:08:26Steve Forbes personality wise.
00:08:30Yeah I've never really seen
00:08:32anything quite like the interview
00:08:33we had with John Brown he was
00:08:35intense angry and very animated.
00:08:38Go on John.
00:08:39But we didn't take it personally.
00:08:42One former trainer of his named
00:08:44Malcolm Perkins a one-time
00:08:46Vietnam POW used odd methods on
00:08:49Brown which may be one of the
00:08:50reasons he is the way he is.
00:08:52He had Brown walk a tightrope
00:08:54while being poked at with a
00:08:55cattle prod.
00:08:56He had him fight blindfolded.
00:08:59Piggybacking 200 pound men while
00:09:01walking in the sand and he was
00:09:03tied to a heavy bag while the
00:09:04bag was being kicked and punched.
00:09:06That might make you angry.
00:09:07I don't know if that make me
00:09:09angry or beyond angry Steve.
00:09:11I don't understand how you equate
00:09:13that to boxing and how it helps
00:09:14him here but if it made his mind
00:09:17a little better okay but it
00:09:18certainly made him hostile.
00:09:19I would think it might toughen
00:09:20you up a little.
00:09:23As we approach the final 30
00:09:24seconds of a subdued first round.
00:09:27Quiet first round right now
00:09:28though.
00:09:29John Brown not getting close
00:09:30enough not throwing enough
00:09:31punches.
00:09:35Punch away out.
00:09:36Punch away out.
00:09:42Will Brown make like the last
00:09:45time and turn this into a trick
00:09:46battle eventually and be able to
00:09:48dictate the tempo.
00:09:49We shall see.
00:09:52A rather uneventful opening round
00:09:55scheduled.
00:09:56For twelve.
00:09:57Time.
00:09:58How about the keys to victory for
00:10:00Forbes versus Brown Bobby.
00:10:03Okay.
00:10:04Let's start.
00:10:05Steve Forbes.
00:10:07Use his speed and jab.
00:10:08It's his best way to set up
00:10:09the combination to get points.
00:10:11Also box smart from the outside.
00:10:13His height and reach.
00:10:13He's best served to be in this
00:10:15place.
00:10:15And lastly sharp counterpunching.
00:10:17Browns come and make him miss
00:10:19and make him pay.
00:10:20Make him pay off.
00:10:22For John Brown being that short.
00:10:24He wants to close the gap.
00:10:25Get to the inside.
00:10:26Once he gets in the inside.
00:10:27Work the bite.
00:10:27Try and take the legs out from
00:10:28under Steve Forbes.
00:10:30And lastly land his power shots.
00:10:31He's the better puncher.
00:10:32He can get two or three off in a
00:10:33combination in a row.
00:10:34He could score a knockout.
00:10:48He could score a knockout.
00:10:53A very quiet red corner of Steve
00:10:56Forbes.
00:10:57Floyd Mayweather senior is his new
00:11:00trainer.
00:11:01He could score a lot more
00:11:01intriguing since his son is the
00:11:03WBC 130 pound champ.
00:11:05But he left Floyd Junior and
00:11:07joined Forbes.
00:11:08How interesting if Mayweather
00:11:09ever fought Forbes.
00:11:11I think they've been very few
00:11:12times in the course of boxing
00:11:14history that father son teams
00:11:17with training and fighting
00:11:18actually worked out without
00:11:19there's being some serious
00:11:20hostility problems.
00:11:22It's a difficult and emotional
00:11:23bond between the two that
00:11:25could allow him to continue
00:11:26during this type of sport.
00:11:30Very rarely is it successful.
00:11:33Of course the first name that
00:11:36comes to mind these days is that
00:11:38of Trinidad.
00:11:40Father and son working well
00:11:42together.
00:11:44Well just a year ago Forbes was
00:11:46campaigning to weight classes
00:11:48higher at 140 stronger at 130
00:11:51than when he was fighting at the
00:11:53heavier weights.
00:11:56Tonight once again he goes up
00:11:58against an opponent who's just
00:11:59five foot two but like a pit
00:12:02ball as he gets inside.
00:12:06He lands with the right hand as
00:12:08John Brown and the gold the
00:12:10eastern beast from Atlantic
00:12:11City swing a little while
00:12:13though Steve not really throwing
00:12:14those punches with good form
00:12:15threw a lot inside that didn't
00:12:17land at all one or two landed
00:12:18but they're more like big smacks
00:12:20as opposed to good solid punches.
00:12:22Punches up Steve.
00:12:26Halfway through the second for the
00:12:30IBF Junior Lightweight Championship.
00:12:33It's a rematch.
00:12:34Forbes in the black winning the
00:12:36first fight with an eight round
00:12:38stoppage when the left ear of
00:12:40Brown was punctured.
00:12:44You notice Brown's not throwing a
00:12:45lot of jabs even though he's
00:12:46short he needs to be Tyson like
00:12:47he's bobbing move his head jab
00:12:49his way and go to the body then
00:12:50come up once you get in there
00:12:52back to the power shots but he
00:12:53can't leave with the power shot
00:12:54with those short arms and that
00:12:56not so good speed.
00:12:59John Brown has started out 10 and 0
00:13:0212 and 8 since though with one
00:13:03no contest.
00:13:05Both fighters have never been down.
00:13:10Forbes 19 and 1 with just 5
00:13:12knockouts.
00:13:141 and 0 in world title fights.
00:13:17John.
00:13:17John Brown 23 and 8 one no contest
00:13:2011 KOs.
00:13:210 and 3 in world championship fights.
00:13:24Brown rated number 2 by the IVF.
00:13:35Forbes an excellent amateur six
00:13:37time gold in gloves champ.
00:13:53final seconds of the second round
00:13:58let's get it over to Jim Gray with a report Jim
00:14:00all right thank you very much Steve I'm now back in the locker room of
00:14:03Ocelino Freitas and Oscar Suarez is here with us to translate
00:14:07Ocelino if we can see your hand he is broken we believe his hand the doctor
00:14:12here Stanley Simpson will oversee it here in a minute Oscar ask him what the
00:14:16problem is and is it broken well basically in the fifth round he felt it
00:14:20see but Ocelino don't don't like to bring no excuses you know he's a warrior and
00:14:24we believe it might be broken see he's right at the knuckle so basically the
00:14:28doctor is gonna check it he's not confirmed yet but it'd be ready for
00:14:32Casamayor so we're gonna have enough time to recuperate how much time would it
00:14:36take for an injury like this to recuperate Oscar basically about a month
00:14:39and a half we're gonna we're gonna have plenty
00:14:56we're gonna have enough time to recuperate the second hand he's right at the knuckle
00:14:57you see looks like both knuckles oh yeah yeah both knuckles the guy's head he
00:15:01was so hard you know I was trying to keep Ocelino away from the head but you know
00:15:06how it is the adrenaline and the fighter's instincts you know Ocelino we hope to
00:15:11feel better Oscar thank you for your time you're welcome Steve all right Jimmy which
00:15:15may explain in part why Freitas did not keep his perfect knockout record alive what may be a broken
00:15:23right hand sustained in round five for Ocelino Freitas and he would have possibly around four
00:15:32months with which to recover to fight Casamayor in early 2002 yeah he'd have plenty of time for that
00:15:38for January or February 2002 and I took a pretty good look at it I've had mine broken as you
00:15:42know
00:15:42more than once and the swelling on that particular hand didn't look near to be what it should be for
00:15:47a broken hand but you never can tell fractions happen all the time we heard what Oscar Suarez said
00:15:54how long about a month month and a half how long did it take you well mine had my one
00:15:58hand had to be
00:15:58rebuilt so it took nine months over but the other time I broke the energy just cracked a knuckle and
00:16:02it took three months all right the action picking up now here in round three between Forbes and the
00:16:07Black Brown and the gold a rematch for the IBF Junior Lightweight Championship one of the better
00:16:14exchanges so far in this fight but again the shorter man can't stay that far outside he's got to work
00:16:19in
00:16:19behind the jab he can't lead in with his big leaping shots he's gonna get time when Forbes won the
00:16:26title
00:16:26over Brown back in December the the title was vacant vacated by Diego Corrales past the halfway point of the
00:16:35third
00:16:40well Freitas wanted to make a statement earlier perhaps held back by that possible broken right hand as Forbes
00:16:50Forbes looking to make a statement tonight in front of both Casamayor and Freitas fighting this fight better than he
00:16:55fought the first
00:16:56first wins fighting smarter his defense is sharp he's moving stepping around Brown better landing better cleaner
00:17:01shots Forbes calls himself the Forgotten Champion everybody talks about Floyd Mayweather Jr. Joe Casamayor and
00:17:09Ocelino Freitas but Steve Forbes looking to prove he belongs in that very impressive group maybe a phrase
00:17:16better suited for Steve Forbes is not necessarily forgotten but not yet established can't stop your time
00:17:21way through he's going to break the break break break top back no one's a double punch
00:17:27there
00:17:28do
00:17:28yeah
00:17:29Keep moving.
00:17:29Keep moving.
00:17:30Keep moving.
00:17:32Keep moving.
00:17:33Keep moving.
00:17:33Keep moving.
00:17:33Keep moving.
00:17:34Keep moving.
00:17:35Keep moving.
00:17:46Watch your head and slide, John.
00:17:53Final seconds of round three.
00:17:55We're going to go back to our
00:17:56time for Jim Gray to
00:17:58give us some more information
00:18:00about Ocelino Freitas in the hand.
00:18:02Jim.
00:18:02Well, he was just examined by Dr. Mark Gordon,
00:18:05the attending ring physician here.
00:18:08And Dr. Gordon believes
00:18:10that it is just some heavy swelling
00:18:12that has taken place above his second
00:18:14his ring finger knuckle
00:18:16and his second finger knuckle.
00:18:18He thinks there possibly possibly
00:18:20could be a hairline fracture,
00:18:22but he doesn't think it's too serious.
00:18:23He has recommended to Ocelino that he go
00:18:25get an x-ray tomorrow.
00:18:27He did not tell him to go to the hospital
00:18:28tonight.
00:18:28He does not think it is that serious.
00:18:30He wants him to ice it tonight.
00:18:31Take a couple of anti-inflammatories.
00:18:33Let it see how it is.
00:18:34But he does not believe that it is
00:18:35serious at all.
00:18:37Steve.
00:18:37Thank you, Jim.
00:18:39More encouraging than what was first thought.
00:18:41Don't stop there.
00:18:43Keep your left hand busy.
00:18:44Ray Robinson catching around the
00:18:45side when he's doing a little slow jam.
00:18:47All right.
00:18:48Okay, gentlemen.
00:18:48Seconds out.
00:18:49Let's go.
00:18:49Let's go.
00:18:50Let's go.
00:18:50Let's go.
00:18:50Make it quick, guys.
00:18:51Let's go.
00:18:51Come on.
00:18:52Let's go.
00:18:56Here's Steve Forbes.
00:18:57John Brown, who has Mike Hall
00:18:59replaced Eddie Mustafa Muhammad
00:19:01in his corner.
00:19:03Plus the ubiquitous Cassius Green
00:19:06with the trademark captain's hat
00:19:07as his cut man.
00:19:14Very quiet here at the
00:19:15Miccosukee break.
00:19:16No points.
00:19:17Arena.
00:19:21This particular fight thus far
00:19:23doesn't have quite the intensity
00:19:26that the.
00:19:27The freighters coach a fight had,
00:19:29although that wasn't exactly what
00:19:30you would call a barn burner.
00:19:31There's a nice swift left hook to
00:19:33the head by a four.
00:19:35I think a lot of the real
00:19:36reason why the intensity is lesser
00:19:37here is that Forbes fighting a
00:19:38smarter fight, tying Brown up on
00:19:40the inside, not letting him walk
00:19:41in and throw punches at will.
00:19:43He's counter punching him pretty
00:19:45well and then tying him up,
00:19:46which makes a less intense fight
00:19:48all around.
00:19:49Forbes telling us that he was
00:19:50lured into an inside brawl in
00:19:52the first fight and his strategy
00:19:53is to stay and box on the outside
00:19:55more and jab and move more.
00:19:57And he's adhering to that policy
00:19:59thus far.
00:20:03Forbes fighting a smart fight
00:20:05against the infighter, five foot two
00:20:08John Brown of the gold.
00:20:11Forbes looking to maintain the
00:20:15championship.
00:20:15He is the IVF junior lightweight champion.
00:20:18His first defense.
00:20:20Nineteen to one, five knockouts.
00:20:22He's wearing the black trunks.
00:20:24Originally out of Portland, Oregon,
00:20:26now living in Las Vegas.
00:20:28John Brown of the gold with the
00:20:30black trim.
00:20:31Twenty three and eight.
00:20:33One no contest.
00:20:34Eleven KOs out of Atlantic City,
00:20:37New Jersey.
00:20:38From a very violent beginning.
00:20:42There you go, John.
00:20:44As mentioned, twelve different
00:20:45foster homes.
00:20:47Brother was murdered.
00:20:49He's been shot at.
00:20:53So many times Brown works his way
00:20:55inside.
00:20:55And then they go.
00:20:56Gets tied up.
00:20:57But doesn't land well and gets
00:20:58spin off.
00:20:59And he has to work his way back in.
00:21:00So he takes more energy.
00:21:01Stop.
00:21:02And usually he's a bigger man.
00:21:04Forbes can hit him first.
00:21:05He has to absorb on the way in.
00:21:06So he's getting out boxed right now.
00:21:09Forbes goes five seven.
00:21:10He's got a five inch height advantage
00:21:13on Brown.
00:21:18Overhand right by Brown.
00:21:20Got a little help from a push with
00:21:22his left shoulder.
00:21:33Brown, although short, very well
00:21:36built defined.
00:21:38See, one of the one of the
00:21:40problems for stop the well
00:21:43He's not leaping in.
00:21:44Excuse me.
00:21:45He is leaping in with left hooks
00:21:46and wild right hand.
00:21:47He's not working on a simple jab
00:21:48to get himself there.
00:21:49And then work the power shots.
00:21:51He's getting timed a few times
00:21:52and countered like there.
00:21:53But he can't get in with a hook
00:21:55without opening himself up.
00:21:56Especially being so short.
00:21:57And such a lack of reach.
00:21:59Bad strategy.
00:22:00I need no idea.
00:22:00They've got a walk with
00:22:01Krishna.
00:22:03I need noəs.
00:22:06They are all the way
00:22:08to work is looking good.
00:22:09Now we're not in the next.
00:22:10Ground five coming up now.
00:22:11I'll have five starting now.
00:22:12Okay, good.
00:22:14Good work.
00:22:15Keep going.
00:22:16The crunch count is going
00:22:18good, doing everything.
00:22:19Get it down.
00:22:21Keep going.
00:22:22Relax, okay.
00:22:33Bees, make him miss, make him pay, even if you walk away from him, right?
00:22:36And he swings while I'll actually stop on the dime to catch him.
00:22:39Right.
00:22:39All right?
00:22:40Right.
00:22:41From either side.
00:22:42You can get him.
00:22:43Mm-hmm.
00:22:44All right?
00:22:45Chill fight.
00:22:46Come on.
00:22:47All right.
00:22:48Okay, gentlemen.
00:22:49Seconds out.
00:22:49Let's make it quick this time.
00:22:50Go.
00:22:54It is round number five of the IVF Junior Lightweight Championship.
00:22:58Steve Forbes in the black, the champion.
00:23:01John Brown of the gold with the black trim, the challenger.
00:23:03This is a rematch of a fight that took place back in December.
00:23:07Won in controversial fashion by Steve Forbes.
00:23:12Stopped on the eighth round.
00:23:14Although Brown was ahead on two of the three scorecards, Forbes was ruled the winner.
00:23:20Because of a punctured left eardrum on Brown.
00:23:24You know, it's kind of funny, but I watched the fight and I didn't see a doctor using the light.
00:23:28And I have fought and sparred with punctured eardrums.
00:23:31It's not really a big deal.
00:23:32Step back.
00:23:32I don't understand the stoppage there.
00:23:34And Brown was upset because he claimed that the cut and the bleeding was on the outside of the ear
00:23:40and not the inside of the ear.
00:23:42Of course, it can be serious if it is a punctured eardrum by affecting your equilibrium.
00:23:47Well, I said I've broken them both, Steve, in sparring.
00:23:51I've never had a problem with it.
00:23:56With a minute gone by in the fifth, let's check out the press row scoring.
00:24:02Through four, our press row judges have not agreed on any one single round.
00:24:07You know, it's amazing because one of the judges has a 40 to 39.
00:24:11That means he has three rounds even in one round, one round for Forbes.
00:24:15That's kind of amazing.
00:24:17Let me give these guys a plug.
00:24:18Manolo Alvarez of Diario Los Americas, Santos Perez from the Miami Herald, and Jesus Suarez from the El Nuevo Herald.
00:24:27Well, we're in round five.
00:24:28Forbes averages six and a half rounds per fight.
00:24:32Brown a little over seven.
00:24:34Work your hand.
00:24:35Work free.
00:24:36Work free.
00:24:37Come on, Beast.
00:24:38Let's go.
00:24:39Let's go.
00:24:41Brown with the better quality of opposition.
00:24:44He's been in there with guys like Calvin Grove, Gabriel, Shane Mosley, Diego Corrales, and, of course, Forbes.
00:24:54The only champion Forbes has fought, Alejandro Gonzalez, and he lost by decision.
00:24:59His only defeat.
00:25:00He's won five straight since.
00:25:02Take a step back.
00:25:03Take a step back.
00:25:04Take a step back.
00:25:07Take a step back.
00:25:08Take a step back.
00:25:10Take a step back.
00:25:11Take a step back.
00:25:11Take a step back.
00:25:12So, Brown with 28 championship rounds and Forbes, even though he's the champion, with
00:25:16only the eight championship rounds against, uh, Brown.
00:25:21Certainly, Brown has had the experience.
00:25:23He's fought with better fighters.
00:25:24But Styles still make fights.
00:25:26And right now, I think that Forbes and Styles dominating the boxing department.
00:25:31Well, he is fighting a smart fight.
00:25:32Not particularly a, uh, electrifying fight, but it's the, uh, intelligent fight.
00:25:41Brown still needs to work.
00:25:42He's still leaping in.
00:25:43Big right hands to the body.
00:25:44Big right hands over the top.
00:25:46Left hooks.
00:25:47You not only see them coming so much more readily, but you open yourself up to walk in,
00:25:50to getting hit on the way in.
00:25:52All right.
00:25:53Stop.
00:25:54Let him go.
00:25:54Come on.
00:25:55Step back now.
00:25:56Watch it.
00:25:57Step back.
00:25:58Time.
00:26:02Talked about the level of competition for John Brown.
00:26:06Eight losses in 32 fights, but he has lost only twice inside the distance.
00:26:11Yeah.
00:26:12All right.
00:26:13He's against Shane Mosley and Steve Forge.
00:26:16He's also been in there with Diego Corrales losing by a decision.
00:26:21He's pushing you.
00:26:22Some of the notable opponents for John Brown.
00:26:24Keep dropping.
00:26:25Keep sticking down.
00:26:26Bring him back over the top.
00:26:27All right.
00:26:30All right.
00:26:31All right, B.
00:26:34Keep digging him in the body.
00:26:35Digging him in the body.
00:26:36Digging him in the body.
00:26:36We're not trying to complain.
00:26:37But can you really stop pushing him?
00:26:39All right.
00:26:40Now do it again.
00:26:41They are real slow.
00:26:42All right.
00:26:43All right.
00:26:43All right.
00:26:44All right.
00:26:46All right.
00:26:48All right.
00:26:48All right.
00:26:51All right.
00:26:54Mayweather senior who replaced Miguel Diaz.
00:26:57Also the very colorful cut man Chuck Bodak.
00:27:00You might have gotten a glimpse of him.
00:27:03As we had around six.
00:27:06Which way out.
00:27:07Mayweather senior has a reputation to be the type of trainer.
00:27:10He's an expert on defense.
00:27:12He's a defensive expert.
00:27:13He can not be hit.
00:27:14He can get out of the way.
00:27:15Hit and move.
00:27:16Good speed.
00:27:17Good combinations.
00:27:18But at all times.
00:27:19Sharp defense.
00:27:21You're going in.
00:27:22You wonder what kind of difference will.
00:27:24Mayweather senior make.
00:27:31Smacking.
00:27:32Shot there by John Brown.
00:27:34Made a lot of noise.
00:27:35Work inside.
00:27:38I'm not sure exactly what effect it had.
00:27:40It was again a little bit of a slap too.
00:27:42Slap sounds a lot harder than a solid punch.
00:27:44Don't grab him.
00:27:45Let him go.
00:27:45A lot more glove hitting.
00:27:47Should be just as knuckle area.
00:27:49Right hand there.
00:27:50Stuck in on the break by Brown.
00:27:56Don't grab.
00:27:56Let him go.
00:27:56Punch you out.
00:27:57Find your hands free.
00:27:58Third man of the ring.
00:27:59Frank Centauri.
00:27:59Let him go.
00:28:00Let him go.
00:28:01Let him go.
00:28:02Let him go.
00:28:03Let him go.
00:28:03Let him go.
00:28:06Let him go.
00:28:09Let him go.
00:28:11Forbes does not have a lot of power.
00:28:12Five knockouts in his 19 wings.
00:28:15Don't grab him.
00:28:15Don't grab him.
00:28:16So he's got a box and move and jab and counter.
00:28:24Brown trying to get in the chest of Forbes.
00:28:29Forbes trying to deny him that opportunity.
00:28:33Don't you have no wrestle?
00:28:35It was a very difficult inside fight.
00:28:37They get their hands tangled up a lot.
00:28:38Their feet tangled a lot.
00:28:40A lot of clenching.
00:28:40A lot of holding.
00:28:41A lot of wrestling.
00:28:42Don't punch.
00:28:42Not a good clean type fight.
00:28:44Fox.
00:28:45Good.
00:28:46Let's go.
00:28:46Let's go.
00:28:47Brown trying to unleash that short, crisp inside punch, which he is good at.
00:28:51Trying to hit you anywhere he can.
00:28:54In the arms.
00:28:55Make the opponent's arms heavy.
00:28:57Don't push his head down.
00:29:07There's a pretty left uppercut in the double.
00:29:10Left uppercut underneath and a hook to the head.
00:29:11Nice move.
00:29:12It's a beautiful counter hook that Forbes has developed in this fight.
00:29:15Punch your way out.
00:29:16Let him go.
00:29:17All right.
00:29:18Break.
00:29:18Tight up.
00:29:19Stop.
00:29:19Don't punch.
00:29:19Stop.
00:29:20I say break.
00:29:21Take a step back.
00:29:22There you go, Ralph.
00:29:23Good job, Ralph.
00:29:24Good job.
00:29:24Step up.
00:29:25Step up.
00:29:26Step up.
00:29:27Step up.
00:29:29Step up.
00:29:31Left side.
00:29:32Don't pull him back.
00:29:35Don't push his head down, Steve.
00:29:37Your hands are free.
00:29:38Work your way out.
00:29:39Punch your way out.
00:29:41There you go, John.
00:29:42Punch your way out.
00:29:44Stay down here.
00:29:44Stay down here.
00:29:45Stay down here.
00:29:47Right there.
00:29:47Post.
00:29:48Two hands.
00:29:49Don't reach in.
00:29:50Punch your way out.
00:29:50Final ten seconds.
00:29:51Seconds of the sixth round.
00:29:54As we come to the halfway point.
00:29:57Of this IBF due to lightweight
00:29:59championship.
00:30:01Come on.
00:30:02Come on.
00:30:03Come on.
00:30:04Come on.
00:30:05Come on.
00:30:06Come on.
00:30:07Come on.
00:30:09Come on.
00:30:21Come on.
00:30:23Steve Forbes on the right here in the black trunks.
00:30:26You see him slipping, dodging, not letting Brown be too effective on the way in.
00:30:30And then on the way out, try to land some shots, tie him up.
00:30:33But there's showing some good defense, good defensive move.
00:30:36Slipping the punches, working some stuff on the inside.
00:30:39And it counts.
00:30:41Later in the round, he's working that left hook.
00:30:43He's countering John's wild right hand a lot.
00:30:45There's a left underneath.
00:30:46He turns another left hand up top.
00:30:49Probably the best punch in the round is one of those left hooks.
00:30:53John Brown just not getting enough clean punching done on the inside.
00:30:57Just like the first fight back on December 3rd, this is a very close fight.
00:31:03Through seven rounds of the first fight.
00:31:06Break.
00:31:06Don't punch.
00:31:09Two of the three judges had it for Brown by a couple of points.
00:31:15And then the third judge had it for Forbes by just one point.
00:31:19And you've got to believe that we've got a similar situation here.
00:31:23This is a one or a two-point fight for somebody.
00:31:26Probably Forbes at this point.
00:31:28I think Forbes is ahead.
00:31:29I've actually only given one clean round to John.
00:31:32One even.
00:31:33One and one after six, which is a three-point lead for Forbes.
00:31:37Might even be closer than that, according to the ringside judges officially.
00:31:42Let's go to work.
00:31:49We're into round seven, scheduled for 12.
00:31:53John the Eastern Beast crown out of Atlantic City, wearing the gold with the black trimmies.
00:32:00The challenger, 23-8, one-note contest, 11 KOs.
00:32:03He barrels his way in on the champion, wearing the black.
00:32:0719-1 Steve Forbes, five knockouts.
00:32:09All the time.
00:32:14He's got the gold.
00:32:24John Brown, Bobby, who appeared to us like a man possessed, a man on a mission.
00:32:31In the days and hours leading up to this fight,
00:32:35really wanted redemption
00:32:37because of the circumstances by which he lost that first fight.
00:32:40But do you think that he's actually living up to his word right now?
00:32:44Well, I think he's living up to his word and effort, Steve.
00:32:47And by that, I mean this.
00:32:48I think he's still obsessed, if not possessed,
00:32:51about winning this title, about getting Steve Forbes out,
00:32:54but he's going about it the wrong way.
00:32:56I think he's allowed his over-intensity or his over-focus
00:32:59to be misguided because he's not focusing on making the adjustments.
00:33:03He's not making any adjustments,
00:33:05and Steve Forbes has to do the first fight.
00:33:08John Brown has not.
00:33:09A wise old man in boxing once told me,
00:33:12you can't really fight on emotion.
00:33:14It often detracts from your mission.
00:33:17Is that valid?
00:33:18Some people can do it better than others.
00:33:20I use emotion to fight myself to try to use smarts
00:33:23and listen to my trainer because he can see because I can't.
00:33:26And it's hard to keep it level playing field in all those areas.
00:33:29When it comes to emotion, intelligence, your trainer, your trust.
00:33:31And sometimes fighters' emotions do clearly get the better of him.
00:33:37Well, Steve Forbes, obviously, the more relaxed, calm, cool,
00:33:41and collected going into this fight.
00:33:42That's just his demeanor generally.
00:33:47While...
00:33:47Stop.
00:33:49Stop.
00:33:49John Brown is much more intense.
00:33:51Box.
00:33:53And driven.
00:34:01Well, coming up next, our main event,
00:34:04it's the WBA Super Featherweight Championship.
00:34:09Joel Casemiro versus Joe Morales.
00:34:13Let's go back into the dressing room once again
00:34:15and take a peek in on Joel Casemiro.
00:34:18He's actually outside the dressing room doors.
00:34:22Here he is doing a little shadow boxing.
00:34:25You get a glimpse there on the left of Joe Goosen,
00:34:27his trainer.
00:34:29From nearby Miami Lakes is Joel Casemiro,
00:34:31originally from Guantanamo, Cuba.
00:34:36So he'll have the crowd behind him here.
00:34:39The Cuban population, of course,
00:34:43fighting here at his own backyard.
00:34:4525-0, 15 knockouts, won the gold medal at the 92 Barcelona Olympics.
00:34:51Probably would have won it again in Atlanta in 96,
00:34:53but he decided to leave his native Cuba,
00:34:57leave his family, very difficult,
00:34:59and come here and defect to the United States.
00:35:04He's next.
00:35:05Right now, we're entering round number eight
00:35:07of the IVF version of the 130-pound championship.
00:35:11One of those rare nights when all three champions
00:35:14in the same division are performing on the same card.
00:35:17We had Ocelino Freitas, although a non-title affair,
00:35:20winning unusually in a decision over Alfred Cote.
00:35:25His first non-knockout in 30 fights.
00:35:29Now, this is the IVF championship
00:35:31to be followed by the WBA.
00:35:41No knockdowns thus far.
00:35:43Again, a very, very tight fight.
00:35:46But from this vantage point,
00:35:48looks like Forbes is ahead.
00:35:50One, two, three points.
00:35:52It's pretty close.
00:35:54One, two, three points.
00:36:03One wrap up now.
00:36:04Let's go.
00:36:04Work your way out.
00:36:05Work your way out.
00:36:07Once again, you've got to point out, Steve,
00:36:08that Styles make fights.
00:36:09John Brown, short, little cannonball,
00:36:12awkward style.
00:36:13Forrestmore, the stand-up boxer, boxer mover.
00:36:15Not so much a boxer puncher.
00:36:17He's not going to win that many fights by knockout.
00:36:19And at the top game, top of the game,
00:36:21the better fighters are not going to get knocked out
00:36:23by Steve Forbes.
00:36:24They're all going to be decisions should he win.
00:36:27Bobby, not to be redundant,
00:36:28but Steve Forbes, a well-schooled boxer,
00:36:31pretty good speed and skills.
00:36:33But where does he figure into the configuration
00:36:39of the 130-pound champions?
00:36:41We see a little blood there over the left eye
00:36:43of Forbes' development.
00:36:45Yeah, I saw that little cut,
00:36:47and I'm not sure if it was something
00:36:48ahead or a wild right hand.
00:36:49Oh, now it's really opened up
00:36:50around the left eye of Steve Forbes,
00:36:52and a right hand.
00:36:53It's now target practice for the little guy,
00:36:565'2", John Brown.
00:36:57He's aiming right directly for it.
00:36:59Well, I'll tell you,
00:37:00as for your previous question,
00:37:01I think that right now,
00:37:03Fredas might hit too hard.
00:37:05He lands the right hand with some of the frequency
00:37:07that Brown has.
00:37:08It's a different right hand.
00:37:10It's a better left hook.
00:37:11Don't wrestle, let him go.
00:37:12Better applied pressure, sharper jab.
00:37:14Right now, Steve Forbes has a bit to go to prove to him.
00:37:17Well, this is interesting.
00:37:19John Brown lost the fight controversially
00:37:21on a punctured left eardrum
00:37:23in the first fight when he was ahead.
00:37:25He now has opened up a cut
00:37:28along the left eye of Steve Forbes.
00:37:30So now a possible injury
00:37:32will affect the balance of this fight.
00:37:36But it's on the champion this time,
00:37:38not the challenger, John Brown.
00:37:40Now, it's sort of around the eye.
00:37:44I'm not sure.
00:37:45I can't see if the blood is getting into the eye,
00:37:46but it looks wicked right now.
00:37:48It's really, it's really spreading around, Bobby.
00:37:55It's almost to the side of the left line of the eyebrow.
00:37:58Step back.
00:37:59But we can only wonder
00:38:00if it's actually clouding his vision.
00:38:04We'll get a better look here, perhaps.
00:38:09Lean back.
00:38:10Let him take the end of the window.
00:38:13But you know what, Evan?
00:38:15Steve, huh?
00:38:16That's why we be telling you, man,
00:38:18you can avoid that, man.
00:38:19Stay outside some.
00:38:21That's what we be telling you, man.
00:38:22Stay outside.
00:38:23You ain't got to have that.
00:38:25Box, man.
00:38:26You out pocket them good.
00:38:27Good job, all right?
00:38:28The head's not a punch.
00:38:30Let me see it.
00:38:32You can see right here,
00:38:33you can see the cut right here around the eye.
00:38:35John Brown looking to hit it,
00:38:37winds up front right in,
00:38:38oh, it to the back of the head
00:38:39of the champion, Steve Forbes.
00:38:40He can see that blood stream down the eye,
00:38:43and he is swinging for it.
00:38:44He winds up hitting him in the back of the neck,
00:38:45but he is gumming for that eye.
00:38:52All of a sudden, a sense of urgency.
00:38:55Dr. Stanley Simpson in there,
00:38:57checking the left eye area of Forbes between rounds.
00:39:02We enter round nine, and once again,
00:39:05coming out winging for that target is John Brown.
00:39:10All right, don't wrestle.
00:39:11Don't wrestle.
00:39:12Come on, guys.
00:39:12Don't wrestle.
00:39:14Let's see if the eye injury becomes
00:39:16a major factor here from this point on.
00:39:32We'll see what kind of job Chuck Bodak did
00:39:34as we throw it over to Jim Gray
00:39:36with a report on the eye.
00:39:37Jim?
00:39:39All right, Steve.
00:39:39In between rounds, Frank Santori,
00:39:41the referee came over, took a look at the eye.
00:39:43It is not a deep gash.
00:39:44It is just above the eyebrow.
00:39:46He had motioned for Dr. Simpson to come over,
00:39:48and then when Santori saw it, he said,
00:39:50no, you don't need to come over, Dr. Simpson.
00:39:51He does not believe right now
00:39:53that there is any threat to this fight being stopped
00:39:55because of the cut over his left eye,
00:39:57nor is it bleeding into his eye at this time.
00:40:00Steve?
00:40:00All right, Jim.
00:40:01Thanks very much.
00:40:02Go, punch your way out.
00:40:03That is definitely good news for Steve Ford.
00:40:05And the next time you get a chance to ask the referee,
00:40:08was it declared a hit, clean hit, or a butt?
00:40:10Actually, no headbutt.
00:40:12That's also big, should this fight ever stop on the cut.
00:40:14You're leading with your head now.
00:40:15Watch your head.
00:40:16Watch your head.
00:40:17Watch your head.
00:40:18Well, after the end of the fourth round,
00:40:20they do go to the scorecards.
00:40:22And right now, we have to believe that Forbes is ahead
00:40:27if the fight is stopped by an accidental headbutt.
00:40:31Midway through the ninth,
00:40:32let's take a check of the press row scoring
00:40:35looking to this point.
00:40:37Alvarez has browned up 78-75.
00:40:40Look at this disparity.
00:40:43Perez has Forbes up by two points,
00:40:45and Suarez has it even.
00:40:47So all three members of press row have it differently.
00:40:52Stop!
00:40:52I have Steve Forbes with a slight lead,
00:40:54but I'm not sure if they give those big winging slaps
00:40:59on the back of the shoulder just to make a loud thudder
00:41:01if they're giving them credit for points.
00:41:02As we just watched in replay, one of those big right hands
00:41:04swung clear over the shoulder around the head,
00:41:06made a lot of noise, didn't hit anything.
00:41:09I believe through eight rounds,
00:41:11our press row judges have not agreed on any one single round.
00:41:16That would be interesting.
00:41:21Forbes' fights have gone the distance
00:41:23in 10 of his last 11.
00:41:25The one exception is last fight
00:41:27versus the man in front of him right here, John Brown.
00:41:30You realize the judge that has an 80-78
00:41:32has scored six of the eight rounds even?
00:41:35Yeah.
00:41:35That's amazing.
00:41:36I don't think I've ever in my entire life
00:41:39seen six rounds even in a fight,
00:41:41an entire fight, never mind, three quarters of one.
00:41:48As we approach the final 10 seconds of the ninth round,
00:41:52scheduled for 12, IVF 130-pound championship,
00:41:55a lot at stake here.
00:41:57Thank you, Bucks.
00:41:58And the revived...
00:42:00Time, time.
00:42:01...junior lightweight-slash-super featherweight division.
00:42:25John, you can't pull out on these guys.
00:42:27A little bit on this set.
00:42:34How do you feel, man?
00:42:35Feel good.
00:42:36All right.
00:42:36Round 10.
00:42:37Good, good.
00:42:3810.
00:42:40Need a rinse?
00:42:41Yeah.
00:42:41Need a rinse.
00:42:44Steve, when you're touching with two punches, man,
00:42:46you got to come back with two more.
00:42:48All right?
00:42:49Right hand, left foot.
00:42:50Give me some under.
00:42:51Second's out.
00:42:51Come back straight and stay on the jab.
00:43:00Again, Chuck Bodak doing a nice job on that eye.
00:43:03The referee, Frank Santori, indicating that it was the result of a clean shot
00:43:07as we enter into round number 10.
00:43:10And I feel that...
00:43:12It's at a break.
00:43:12Break.
00:43:13Step back.
00:43:13...raining champion Steve Forbes and the Black Trunks
00:43:16is doing a good job in that he is sticking to his original game plan
00:43:21of boxing from the outside, not being lured into an inside fight
00:43:24by a five-foot-two John Brown.
00:43:27I think he's winning the fight by one or two points.
00:43:30Let him go.
00:43:30Come on.
00:43:30Work your way out.
00:43:31I clearly have him hit by a couple of rounds, Steve.
00:43:32Let's go, guys.
00:43:33I think he's done the job.
00:43:34I think there are times when John Brown closed the gap,
00:43:36got inside, was more effective on the inside,
00:43:38and outscored Steve.
00:43:39But Steve Forbes, for the most part,
00:43:42is boxing the way he said he would.
00:43:43Move your head.
00:43:43Move your head.
00:43:44Move your head.
00:43:45Move your head.
00:43:45Move your head.
00:43:46Move your head.
00:43:46Get your head.
00:43:48Get your head.
00:43:48Get your head.
00:43:51Get your head down, has to be a bit on the frustrated side.
00:43:53He just can't get inside.
00:43:54He could stop.
00:43:56Get a right hand in there.
00:43:57Steve, don't push his head down.
00:43:58Once again, I can't understand why this jab is double, triple,
00:44:01quick jabs, get their body, get to the head,
00:44:03then unload with the power.
00:44:05Leaping with the big shots has made it awfully awkward
00:44:08and difficult for him to be effective.
00:44:18It is, uh, indeed, the bull versus the matador,
00:44:23an old boxing cliche, but, uh, it often does make sense.
00:44:28Don't grab him, John.
00:44:29Come on, punch you out, let it go, Steve.
00:44:30Punch the way out, guys.
00:44:31But the matador is ahead, apparently.
00:44:39Step back, no punch.
00:44:41Step back, no punch.
00:44:41Step back, no punch.
00:44:41Two pounds, Steve Forbes with the finesse.
00:44:44Get the body, John.
00:44:45Come on, man.
00:44:48Nice combination to the head there by Forbes.
00:44:50A quick one-two.
00:44:55No retaliation by Brown.
00:44:57Brown not digging to the body.
00:44:59Come on, punch you out, now let's go.
00:45:01And Forbes clings to him.
00:45:03Lingo, Steve.
00:45:03Lingo, you're home.
00:45:04Right there.
00:45:04He keeps punching.
00:45:05Cut opening up a little bit now on Forbes.
00:45:10But it's not going into the eye.
00:45:14Lingo, Steve.
00:45:18Lingo, you're home.
00:45:18Right there.
00:45:19Cut opening up a little bit now on Forbes,
00:45:20What slaps?
00:45:21Lingo, John.
00:45:22Break.
00:45:22Lingo.
00:45:23Big step back now, John.
00:45:24Bucks.
00:45:25He's on the other.
00:45:27He's on the other.
00:45:28He's on the other.
00:45:29How's that, John?
00:45:31How's that, John?
00:45:31No grabbing from him.
00:45:33He's on the other.
00:45:35He's on the other.
00:45:35The punches of John Brown.
00:45:36He only has 11 knockouts in 23 fights.
00:45:39Put a punch in, don't punch in.
00:45:40Break.
00:45:41Locks.
00:45:55All right, stop. Don't punch. Don't punch. You're tied up.
00:45:59And that'll do it for round 10.
00:46:01Tie, tie.
00:46:20You have to remember the key here is effective aggression. You'll see John Brown. He is coming at, coming at,
00:46:27and coming at Steve Forbes. What Forbes will do is wrap his arms around, tie him up, then spin off,
00:46:32and hit him with a right hand, and watch it. Pretty nice. He comes in. He doesn't really land much.
00:46:38Their hands are all tied up.
00:46:39He spins him around, and there he comes right here, right hand, and he lands clean, winning the exchange even
00:46:46because it's just one good, clean shot, and there was a hook on the inside to follow it up.
00:46:50Even though John Brown's being the aggressor in a big way, he's not the effective aggressor most of the time.
00:46:56I have it six rounds, three, one, even for Steve Forbes.
00:47:03They almost forgot the mouthpiece, able to apply it at the last second there to begin round 11.
00:47:08Don't start. Stop. Stop. Don't start wrestling already.
00:47:10As we get into the championship round, so to speak.
00:47:18But John Brown will have to step it up and be more effective here.
00:47:22And right there, you saw him stepping up. Everything was punching on the inside, not just leaping in.
00:47:30But Forbes continues to do a fine job of staying up on his toes and boxing from the outside.
00:47:36Frustrating Brown.
00:47:37No time up.
00:47:37No pass behind the head now.
00:47:39Work your way out.
00:47:40Punch your way out.
00:47:42Frank Santori doing a nice job.
00:47:45Doing a lot of talking tonight.
00:47:53A lot of those punches just winging into air by Brown.
00:47:57A lot of them landing behind his neck, behind his shoulder blades.
00:48:00He's missing completely.
00:48:02Not very effective sometimes, but better this round than he was in the last round.
00:48:05I think a lot of people coming into this night thinking that this middle fight would be the
00:48:13most competitive and intense.
00:48:15Don't grab your head, Forbes.
00:48:16Don't use that word more.
00:48:17Intense.
00:48:18A bunch of way out, guys.
00:48:18Than all the other fights on this card.
00:48:20John, watch your head, John.
00:48:21I think a lot of that was based on the first fight where Steve Forbes got out of his game
00:48:24plan and made it more of a street fight, which was conducive to not only a good fight,
00:48:27but also conducive to John Brown getting the edge.
00:48:29Yeah, the first fight was a much better fight in terms of how the fans enjoyed it, the entertainment
00:48:37value of it.
00:48:38The action was much better.
00:48:42This is more of a chess match, at least from the Steve Forbes point of view.
00:48:53Fighting a much more intelligent fight and sticking to his game plan.
00:48:56Not letting go, John.
00:48:58Because he thought he was sucked into a machismo situation in the first fight, got out of his game.
00:49:07And he's sticking to his plan here tonight.
00:49:09That left eye starting to bleed a little bit again.
00:49:12Pretty quiet in the last round.
00:49:27But Brown just looks like he's running out of gas here.
00:49:30Let him go, John.
00:49:31You're tying him up.
00:49:32Tying him up.
00:49:33Tying Forbes up.
00:49:33There's a lot of bobbing and weaving up and down, up and down.
00:49:36That it takes a toll on your back.
00:49:37A couple of good shots there in that sequence by Forbes.
00:49:40Best combination by Forbes in quite some time.
00:49:42And stop.
00:49:43Jumping all over Brown now and pushing him away.
00:49:46He's upset.
00:49:51And Brown continues to miss with that overhand right.
00:49:55By an exchange on the inside again.
00:49:58Step back.
00:50:00More for Forbes' favor.
00:50:01And that's it.
00:50:04For that round.
00:50:06One to go.
00:50:10All you got to do is be standing.
00:50:13It's over.
00:50:14Last round.
00:50:18You already did your job, man.
00:50:23Terrific exchange here.
00:50:25Forbes coming in, blocking shots.
00:50:27Nice, right uppercut.
00:50:28Beautifully timed counterpunch.
00:50:30And working up on the inside.
00:50:31Really playing it smooth.
00:50:33Slip and bang.
00:50:34Motherfucker.
00:50:55Last round of this championship bout, Steve Forbes on the left, 14 and 1.
00:50:59And fights that have gone to the judges' scorecard.
00:51:01John Brown to the right, 12 and 6.
00:51:04Under those circumstances, they will touch gloves.
00:51:07And here it is.
00:51:08Round 12 for the IBF junior lightweight title.
00:51:11You would think that right here, John Brown's got to let it all hang out.
00:51:14You just wouldn't think there'd be a whole lot.
00:51:16Last round now.
00:51:17All else to do.
00:51:18Got to swing.
00:51:21The cut, unfortunately, for Forbes has not been a factor.
00:51:25Don't grab him.
00:51:26Come on.
00:51:26Let's go.
00:51:27Your hands are free.
00:51:31Well, Brown's just walking into a shot.
00:51:34All right, stop.
00:51:35Break.
00:51:36Break.
00:51:37Forbes looks to be in the better condition of the two, even though he has been out of the
00:51:43ring for 10 months.
00:51:44Stop.
00:51:45Don't push him off.
00:51:45I know.
00:51:46I know.
00:51:46And Brown, five months.
00:51:53Forbes winning the first fight because Brown had a punctured eardrum in the eighth.
00:52:01Back in December, something that enraged John Brown and made him very upset and angry going
00:52:11into this rematch, but unable to make it translate into his fists tonight.
00:52:16You know, the same way we just watched Arsino Freitas fight a very awkward style in Albert
00:52:20Cote.
00:52:21Both is hard to look good against, hard to knock out.
00:52:23Let it go.
00:52:24John Brown is even more difficult to look good against.
00:52:27I was incredibly impressed with his way of getting to the inside, John Brown, tonight.
00:52:31I thought he could have worked his way in better, threw his combinations cleaner, more
00:52:35inside, more straight to the points that surround him.
00:52:38You're wrestling, right?
00:52:39Let it go.
00:52:39You're wrestling, guys.
00:52:40Boxing.
00:52:40Again, he doesn't have much power, Steve Forth, but I thought he could have sat on his
00:52:42punch a little better and a little more effective with the jab.
00:52:45John Brown on the way in.
00:52:47Brown, an awkward offensive-minded fighter, presses forward, but just not getting the job
00:52:52done here tonight, mostly because of Steve Forth.
00:52:56As the action picks up, Forth's digging in with a left to the body.
00:52:59Stop!
00:53:00Break!
00:53:00Let him go!
00:53:01Come on!
00:53:01Step back!
00:53:01Step back!
00:53:02Box!
00:53:03A minute to go in the fight.
00:53:06Punch your way out!
00:53:07Punch your way out!
00:53:08Let him go!
00:53:09Most fights that get to a decision, you just almost automatically think that the smaller
00:53:14man landed less punches, was less effective getting any inside, which is why he's lost so
00:53:18many decisions.
00:53:19Let him go.
00:53:19Come on, let him go, John.
00:53:21Steve, step back.
00:53:22Yeah, Brown, 23 and 8 with one-dope contest.
00:53:25Don't grab his head.
00:53:26Come on, punch your way out now, guys.
00:53:27Your hands are free.
00:53:28Just lay in there.
00:53:32Break!
00:53:32He's lost two of those eight by TKO.
00:53:34Step back!
00:53:35The rest of the decisions.
00:53:40Brown's fourth shot at a world title, first title defense for Forbes.
00:53:44Forbes in the black, Brown on the gold.
00:53:46Final seconds of the fight.
00:53:49And again, it heats up.
00:53:52John Brown getting some wax in there.
00:53:54Oh, he got nailed!
00:53:55John Brown almost went down, Steve.
00:53:57Brown almost went down.
00:53:59He got staggered.
00:54:00And almost went down for the first time in his career.
00:54:03That's it.
00:54:06And he wobbles to his corner.
00:54:10And yes, we have to believe Steve Forbes has reason to celebrate.
00:54:16As Cassius Green spritzes down, a very, very tired John Brown.
00:54:28And now, finally, Brown able to break out a very, very quick smile.
00:54:32I want to say, DLVCC, get it again.
00:54:37America presents him.
00:54:39As Steve Forbes holds on to hold on to his IBF Junior Lightweight Championship.
00:54:43See the results.
00:54:45Lay it up the scorecards.
00:54:46You see the cut.
00:54:47Hands up for the camera.
00:54:48Show me the champ.
00:54:49And he really has no major effect on the fight.
00:54:53There's Chuck Bowdoin.
00:54:55All right, what's the difference when it's time to last fight with him?
00:54:58Hey, well, let's see you.
00:54:59They're training.
00:55:04They're training.
00:55:04Come on, Parker.
00:55:05Probably the most exciting round was his last round.
00:55:08Desperate John Brown.
00:55:09But Forbes, look, waiting on him, back up, stepping off on him before the counter.
00:55:13Now, this is right after he had heard him.
00:55:15John Brown trying to hold on.
00:55:17But Steve Forbes, I think, I just think he stayed with his gay plan
00:55:22and stepped to it better.
00:55:25Late in the fight.
00:55:26Again, he'd hurt Brown a little bit.
00:55:28Brown just trying to rush in and stop him.
00:55:30Watch him off the ropes.
00:55:31You're tying Brown on the way in.
00:55:33You'll see.
00:55:33You'll see Brown's head snap.
00:55:35He gets hit with a beautiful shot.
00:55:38There it is.
00:55:39Right hand.
00:55:39Times him coming in.
00:55:40Got his head up.
00:55:41His arms again wide open.
00:55:42I thought he should have fought cleaner.
00:55:44Much tighter on the inside.
00:55:45He left his arms open.
00:55:46That hit far too much, I think, to win this fight, Steve.
00:55:49Well, certainly not as action-packed as the first getting together with these guys.
00:55:53But Forbes will accept it if he has the W, for sure.
00:56:00Very concerned.
00:56:01John Brown waiting for the scores to be read.
00:56:03Tommy Parks, my trainer, said, don't worry about looking good this time.
00:56:06We'll look good next time.
00:56:07I know this is what Steve Forbes want to do.
00:56:09You see what I'm saying?
00:56:10He knew he was going to do that.
00:56:11Mental games there.
00:56:12Yeah, it was like the first round.
00:56:12He did a first fight.
00:56:14Well, Steve Forbes, who calls himself the forgotten champion, looking to retain the IVF junior lightweight title in his first
00:56:22defense and make it two for two over Brown.
00:56:24He didn't mean that we will be ready for Brown.
00:56:27Certainly taught the good game going into this fight, just not living up to the words.
00:56:33Here's Floyd Mayweather, Sr., left of your screen.
00:56:38And Ronnie Duncan now, our ring announcer, has the numbers.
00:56:41John Brown.
00:56:44Ladies and gentlemen, our judges have come to a decision.
00:56:47Judge Mark Streisand scores the fight, 117-111.
00:56:52Judge Peter Trimatera scores the fight, 115-113.
00:56:57And Judge Michael Pernick scores the fight, 115-113.
00:57:01The winner, and still IVF junior lightweight champion, Steve Forbes!
00:57:16So there it is, the unanimous decision for Steve Forbes.
00:57:21He hangs on to the belt, ups his record to 20-1.
00:57:25Brown, meanwhile, unable to exact revenge, falls to 23-9 with the one no contest.
00:57:31So the championship landscape remains the same, at 130 pounds.
00:57:38Coming up next, our main event, undefeated local favorite, Joel Casamayor versus Texan Joe Morales for the WBA 130-pound
00:57:46championship.
00:57:47Into the dressing room of the champion, Joel Casamayor, Cuban defector now residing in nearby Miami Lakes.
00:57:54There he is with the WBA belt, really seems to have it together, helps his family back in Cuba when
00:58:00possible.
00:58:00Careful with his money, unlike so many in this game.
00:58:03Just bought his first house, nothing too elaborate, but comfortable, married with three sons.
00:58:08Trains in California, so really often missing his family.
00:58:12And just the other day, he learned from his wife that his two-year-old, Joel Jr., is a left
00:58:17-hander just like him.
00:58:19Now, assuming Casamayor wins tonight in this safe tune-up fight, a WBA-WBO unification fight with Ocelino Freitas, who
00:58:26won earlier tonight, appears inevitable.
00:58:30We're set for post-fight reaction.
00:58:31Let's get it up to Jim Gray.
00:58:32Jim?
00:58:34All right, thank you very much, Steve.
00:58:36Steve, congratulations to you.
00:58:38Are you pleased that it was a convincing win based on the way that the last fight ended?
00:58:43Yes, I was, because a lot of critics were saying, oh, Forbes is going to lose.
00:58:46And it was a very tough fight, but, you know, I got a new guy.
00:58:49Well, I worked with him before when I went to USBA, and that's Floyd Mayweather Sr., and we got everything
00:58:53worked out, and it's just uphill from now on.
00:58:56Any concern when your eye was cut?
00:58:58No, because I got a control corner.
00:59:00Chuck Bodex, one of the best cut men out there, or the best cut man, so I wasn't concerned at
00:59:05all.
00:59:06Mr. Mayweather Sr., your son won any part of this young man?
00:59:10Well, that's on my son, that's on Stevie, what they want to do.
00:59:14I really don't want to comment on that.
00:59:15What would you like to do?
00:59:16Well, I would like to fight, you know, Freitas is playing games or whatever.
00:59:20If he won't fight Casemiro, I'll fight Casemiro.
00:59:22I respect Casemiro, but, you know, this is boxing, and you want to test yourself against other champions.
00:59:26It appears that those two will fight.
00:59:27What will you do then?
00:59:28Will you move up and wait?
00:59:29No, hopefully I can fight on the undercard of that and just stay busy.
00:59:34Talk to America Presents.
00:59:35We got a good team, and they're going to keep me real busy.
00:59:37All right, congratulations.
00:59:38John, let me ask you right here, the emotion that you came out with.
00:59:42Was there a different type of intensity that you had for this fight compared to the first one?
00:59:47Well, yeah, I mean, it was a good fight.
00:59:48Like, we're going to come out fighting this, you know, as we did, I was going to turn it up
00:59:51a little bit more.
00:59:52And, like I say, Stevie came out, you know, he fell a little bit.
00:59:55But, like I say, I think I went in there and hurt him a lot.
00:59:57Like I say, I probably could have tried to turn it up even more.
01:00:00But, like I say, he moved a lot.
01:00:02So, I moved a lot with him.
01:00:03Seemed as though you were able to get inside.
01:00:05Was that the case?
01:00:05You were unable.
01:00:07Well, yeah, but then again, I did get inside and hurt him sometimes.
01:00:09But, like I say, he's been around, threw a lot of shots over the head, underneath, you know, and around.
01:00:14And he kept moving around, so it was like, you know, a different motion, you know.
01:00:17You're 33 years old.
01:00:18It's your ninth loss.
01:00:19What do you want to do next?
01:00:21Well, I mean, I'm still all right, you know what I'm saying.
01:00:24Like I said, it was a great fight, you know.
01:00:26Anybody get hurt in a fight, but it was like, you know, we traded big shots, and either one of
01:00:29them would get hurt.
01:00:30I rocked him a couple of times.
01:00:31He threw a good shot, you know, at the end, and I threw a big left foot.
01:00:36I think I hit him with a good uppercut, and he threw a lot.
01:00:38But, you know, most of the opponents are mostly hurt.
01:00:41They're more dangerous than they are, because they're going to wing something.
01:00:43But they hurt, or they're not going to stay there, freeze them, but fall down.
01:00:45John, thank you for your time.
01:00:46We appreciate it.
01:00:47No doubt.
01:00:47You're real good.
01:00:48Thank you for my time.
01:00:48Okay.
01:00:49Steve, back to you.
01:00:51All right, Jim, thank you so much.
01:00:53Let's see how the scoring went for this fight, Forrest versus Brown.
01:00:57And first, we'll compare it with the first fight on December the 3rd.
01:01:01When two of the three had it in favor of Brown, and one had it in favor of Forbes, and
01:01:08now we see what happens tonight.
01:01:11Michael Pernick had Forbes winning by a point.
01:01:14Mark Streisand had it 117, 111.
01:01:16Quite a disparity there for Forbes.
01:01:18And Peter Tremeterra had Forbes winning 115 to 113.
01:01:24So a unanimous decision for the ringside judges officially.
01:01:27Here's how the press row guys saw it.
01:01:29Manolo Alvarez had Brown winning 115, 114.
01:01:32Santos Perez had Forbes up.
01:01:34Look at this score.
01:01:35By a 120, 114 whopping margin.
01:01:38And then Jesus Suarez had Forbes very close, 115 to 114.
01:01:44And how about the fans at home?
01:01:46Talk about a difference of opinion.
01:01:47Check this out.
01:01:49They had John Brown winning it, not closely, but convincingly, 9 to 3.
01:01:54I don't know, Steve.
01:01:55If that's not a disparity, there isn't one.
01:01:58That's amazing.
01:01:59My scoring was along the lines of Steve Forbes, 118, 112.
01:02:04That's how I thought I saw it.
01:02:05That's how he was.
01:02:06He was effective.
01:02:06He did the punches.
01:02:08He landed the punches.
01:02:09He tied them up on the inside.
01:02:10He was effective.
01:02:11John Brown did not get on the inside the way he was supposed to.
01:02:14Yeah, Forbes just fought a smart fight.
