00:00with 29 knockouts and this mighty might has held a 105 pound title longer than anyone
00:05in the division's history.
00:10Tonight's featured world championship fights are about to start here in Monterey.
00:15The WBA middleweight championship is next.
00:18WBA title holder Argentina's Jorge Castro is the owner of one of boxing's most impressive records.
00:25His 90 plus victories place him in some very exclusive company.
00:29Tonight's title defense is a significant showcase for Castro because most of his fights have been in his homeland.
00:37The upcoming bout should be an interesting confrontation.
00:40Now because of the politics of boxing, John David Jackson lost his title outside of the ring.
00:46Tonight, he has the opportunity to win it back between the ropes.
00:49Castro wants to prove tonight that he is as good as his impressive record
00:52and that he truly deserves to wear the crown.
00:58, like I said,,
00:59there's a lot of ways that he is doing it and doing it.
01:04No.
01:07Caught him!
02:51I think he is a good fighter I think he is one of those Argentine guys it comes
02:55to fight the old adage styles make fights how about Castro style just like
03:00everybody from Argentina that comes out of there swarming aggressive throwing
03:03punches from all angles and fierce aggressiveness is their style and
03:08that's what I think we'll see tonight and a prediction I think it's too much
03:11Castro's is a champion has got that kind of power that goes right through you I
03:16think it's Castro's fight and what advantage by John David Jackson have
03:21being an undefeated fighter he's 33 and 0 with much more championship
03:25experience Bobby your thoughts well a fighter that's undefeated has that aura
03:28of invincibility he thinks that he can't be beat because he's never been beat
03:31he's never tasted in fighters tend to think that way anyway he's faced better
03:35competition and therefore his experience even though it doesn't have more fights
03:38it's quality experience I think gives him a big mental edge your take on
03:41Jackson's style well Jackson's a southpaw always awkward the fight because
03:44everything comes from a different angle than we're normally accustomed to he's
03:47quick he's not a big puncher but a nice combination puncher fast hard to
03:51hit two or three times consecutively very difficult style to face and a
03:54prediction I think Jackson by decision in a long hard fight all right thanks
03:58very much Bobby and right now let's take our first look at the challenger that
04:02being John David Jackson born in Denver lives in Seattle the 31 year old Jackson
04:0733 at 0 19 KOs former WBA middleweight champ and WBO junior middleweight champ he's the
04:14mandatory challenger off a seventh round TKO of Dan Garcia he's never lost a
04:18championship fight having been stripped of the WBA middleweight belt earlier this
04:22year for fighting a non title bout by the way Jackson harbors great resentment
04:28towards Castro's camp because Jackson was stripped for taking that non title fight
04:33without permission and Castro won that very same title in a vacancy fight and now
04:40here is the champion Jorge Castro out of Caleta Olivia Argentina the 27 year old is a staggering 95 4 and 266 KOs he has the most fights of any active world champion 101 tonight his 11th fight already this year he sometimes fights 19 times a year this is second title defense off a second round knockout of Alex Ramos he won the vacant WBA 160 pound title with a decision over Reggie Johnson this past August
05:06August let's see how they stack up on paper as we go to the tail of the tape Castro at 27 four years younger than Jackson Jackson has a three inch height advantage Castro and Jackson both checking in at 160 and a four inch reach advantage for Jackson and the WBA rules for this championship fight ten point must system in effect three scoring judges no standing eight count the three knockdown rule is in effect only the referee can stop the fight a fighter cannot be saved by the bell except in the last round

08:42Introducing the WBA middleweight champion of the world
08:46Demos la bienvenida al campeón Jorge Locomotora Castro
08:53Here is the referee Stanley Christodoulou
09:00What you put at the rules, shake hands, good luck to you both, shake hands
09:16Good luck to you both, shake hands
09:18Okay.
09:24Quick instructions from the referee, Stanley Christodoulou from Johannesburg, South Africa.
09:29There is the champion, Jorge Castro, and the challenger, John David Jackson, a natural southpaw.
09:37He told us he intends to start out right-handed.
09:39Jorge Castro in the white with the powder blue trim, and he comes right in on John David
09:47Jackson wearing the sequin trunks, and this is a matchup of boxer versus puncher, the
09:53puncher being the champion, Castro, the boxer, the defensive technician, is the challenger,
09:58Jackson.
09:59Well, Jackson appeared to walk out orthodox, but as soon as they got in the clinch, he
10:01came back out of southpaw.
10:04Well, he told us he switched back and forth while we were talking to him yesterday, but
10:08he said he's going to put a little bit more pressure on Castro than he thinks he's going
10:12to get.
10:12Well, Castro's all ready for pressure.
10:14That's what he likes.
10:15Yeah, Castro had mentioned that he wanted to force the fight from the beginning, but also
10:18felt that he's the champion.
10:20He's going to make Jackson come to him if he wants to win the championship.
10:23Jackson puts his combinations together.
10:25He does it basically with smarts and boxing skill.
10:29Pretty good combination there by the challenger.
10:33Jackson utilizes a jab and run style, makes his opponents chase him, tries to frustrate his
10:38opponent with lots of movement.
10:39Pretty good jab there by the challenger, Jackson.
10:42Yeah, surprising aggressiveness on Jackson's part.
10:46If you notice, right under Jackson's left eye, there's a sequin that's dislodged off his
10:51rover, his trunk is wedged right underneath his eye.
10:53I hate when that happens.
10:55They're all over his body, but the referee should really take one off of his under his
10:59eye.
10:59It would be such a dangerous place.
11:01Yeah, it flicks into his eye.
11:02You know, you've got some problems.
11:03Maybe he's planning a night out of the town, wearing the sparkle.
11:06Okay.
11:07Very well.
11:07He's doing very well as Jackson.
11:09He's bopping things right off with both hands, right off the champion's head.
11:14Jorge Castro always comes forward.
11:18At 27, he's in the prime of his career, wants to leave the game healthy, says he'll fight
11:23only another couple of years.
11:25He'd love to unify the middleweight title though before stepping away.
11:29Jackson and his trainer said that the only way Castro's punches can be effective is if
11:33Jackson's going backwards and he gets caught in the tail end of those looping shots.
11:36Said he wants to press the fight because Castro cannot fight backwards, but it's going to
11:40be difficult because I think he only knows one gear and that is forward.
11:43All right.
11:44Now, it's Jackson taking a play.
11:45He, he's certainly surprising everybody at ringside.
11:48I'd expected him to run around, make this a dull fight.
11:50Anything but dull this first round.
11:53John David Jackson told us he watched the tape of Castro Norris and felt that Castro wasn't
11:57as tough as he's made out to be and he's showing that right here.
12:01He says, come on in, inviting Castro in and that may be dangerous.
12:06Well, it's only what Castro wants.
12:07Certainly.
12:08Well, this is the type of, this is the type of fight that Castro wants.
12:11He wants a man's war.
12:12This is what he does best.
12:14Jackson told us that he thought Castro was ordinary, amateurish, particularly with the
12:20Javs.
12:20And he said, I'll put the pressure on him.
12:24I'll force the action and he's living up to his word.
12:27He thinks he's a better boxer.
12:29He said, he'll see what he's really made of.
12:31Talking about the champion Castro.
12:34Jackson said, I'll stop him.
12:35I'm not worried about his power.
12:36And there, the power of Castro as the bell sounds.
12:39And that did rock Jackson.
12:42He hit Jackson off the top of the head.
12:43And I'll tell you what, that did hurt him.
12:45That was a very strong punch.
12:47Just as you were saying about his power, he landed his first.
12:50I had the feeling he was setting up Jackson.
12:53He was letting him come in, letting him come in.
12:54And when he finally let go, he really let go of a fire punch.
12:57And it did have a terrific effect.
13:00Let's take a look at what happened and watch particularly Jackson's reaction once he gets hit.
13:06Jackson's going bippin' and boppin' thinking he's got everything going his day.
13:10Now watch the little trap he lays.
13:12Now he missed with that.
13:13Comes the top of his head.
13:14Now look, look, look at what happened to Jackson.
13:16Right off the top of his head, Bobby.
13:18Well, you know as well as I do, and I've said it many times,
13:20when people get hit on top of that, especially guys that go down low,
13:23if you watch it again, he gets hit right there on top of the head.
13:26And that's a soft spot.
13:27There's a soft spot up there that will wobble you
13:29and it'll make your legs do some funny things.
13:31And there you saw it.
13:35Well, John David Jackson had better start worrying about Jorge Castro's power.
13:39He shakes his head as if to indicate he's okay.
13:41But it's usually just the opposite when you see that.
13:44Well, it's only the second round, and he was having everything his way.
13:47It certainly came as a sudden realization.
13:49He's in here with a guy who's got a big record of knockouts for some reason,
13:53and that reason is he's got a punch.
13:55Well, we can sum up round one by saying lots of action, lots of Jackson until the end.
14:00So round two, scheduled for 12 for the WBA Middle Eastern Championship.
14:05Here goes Castro again.
14:07And Castro punches, it looks like he's trying to break down a door or something.
14:11He really gets into it when he's punching hard.
14:16Castro has those looping shots, too.
14:18He wings his whole body behind his punches.
14:20So when they land, they're going to be difficult shots to just shake off.
14:23Here's a good looping left hand by Castro.
14:26He's never been KO'd in 101 pro fights, 229 fights overall.
14:31He's been knocked down only once.
14:33That was eight years ago.
14:34He got up and won that fight.
14:36You're watching when Jackson jabs.
14:37He jabs and he kind of has half his body going backwards.
14:40It's an awkward moment.
14:41He can't punch hard, but it also leaves an empty space for Castro to throw at.
14:45It's like leaving a calling card.
14:48You left it as a, here, I'm gone.
14:49You know, he's not going to stay there and see what happens from it.
14:52You're right, and he's not doing a lot of damage with it.
14:57Nice punching by Jackson, then setting him up for a nice body shot.
15:01Little hooks to the body.
15:02Good by Jackson.
15:04Jackson revived after ending that the first round in troublesome fashion.
15:08Jackson very confidently doing his thing halfway through round two.
15:12Oh, there's a good straight left by Jackson.
15:16I think Jackson realized that he's not going to have to go in there
15:19and take the fight to him in a warring fashion.
15:21He can win this fight boxing and still hurt Castro and do what he has to do.
15:28Castro told us he's fought a lot of southpaws.
15:31He's not concerned.
15:34If Jackson comes to fight, which he has, he says,
15:36I'll have no problems with him being a left-hander.
15:39If not, I'll stand there in the middle of the ring, make Jackson come to me.
15:42I have lots of patience, but John David Jackson is initiating the attack.
15:48Castro has the type of style we used to call in the gym a junk fighter,
15:51and we didn't mean it in a condescending fashion,
15:53but he doesn't throw any textbook horn tunes,
15:55nothing down the middle or straight.
15:56Comes from every angle, his feet cross over each other,
15:59and when you think he can't hit you, bang,
16:00he's hitting you on top of the head behind the ear,
16:02and it's just sometimes a very difficult style to combat.
16:05And the other thing, Bobby, is he's picking up all these jabs on those gloves on the front.
16:08Hardly anything is going through.
16:10It looks good, all that jabbing, but it's hitting nothing.
16:12It's hitting gloves.
16:13Look at the way he holds his gloves up.
16:14Body shots by Jackson Castro trying to counter,
16:22but he's hitting air.
16:25Now, good head movement by Jackson.
16:27Good boxing by Jackson.
16:29Early in his career, Jackson under the tutelage of Georgie Benton,
16:33then later he fought for the Kronk team.
16:35Earlier on, he was looking to plant his feet more for leverage,
16:38but a defensive fighter all along.
17:02He's on picking off the jabs,
17:04and this is exactly what they're talking about.
17:05Look at the way his hands are up.
17:06He's hitting all those red gloves,
17:08nothing sitting, getting through the skin.
17:12Yeah, he's keeping his hands high.
17:13He's got to worry about the jab.
17:14He doesn't have the speed.
17:15Jackson has the speed,
17:16and he's got to block the shot.
17:17But what he's got to do,
17:18instead of just blocking him there,
17:19he's got to counter him back.
17:21I just get the feeling he keeps setting that little trap
17:24and waiting for him to come in.
17:25Let's listen.
17:30All right.
17:31At the end, they were saying,
17:32we're all right, we're all right,
17:33but let's start stepping up the action,
17:34meaning just don't pick off punches.
17:36Let's start punching after you pick off the bunch.
17:40Round three schedule for 12.
17:41Jorge Castro in the white trunks,
17:4395-4-2, 66 knockouts.
17:46He is the champion.
17:48John David Jackson in the sequined trunks,
17:5033-0 with 19 knockouts.
17:52The challenger, former WBA middleweight champ
17:55and WBO junior middleweight, Tyler Holden.
17:58Castro said when we were interviewing him
17:59that he knows how to beat this style
18:01because it's the same style as Reggie Johnson.
18:03He took care of Reggie Johnson.
18:04He's going to do the same here.
18:06Uppercut by Jorge Castro to the body.
18:08Didn't have much effect on Jackson,
18:10who is moving back.
18:12Castro has lost to Terry Norris,
18:14and Roy Jones Jr. is pretty indicated earlier.
18:18Both fast and slick,
18:19somewhat similar to Jackson.
18:22There's that jab again by John David.
18:26It's pushing Castro back.
18:28Castro looking for an opening.
18:31John David said he wanted Terry Norris
18:32to come up to 116 and fight him,
18:34but he doesn't believe Terry will do it.
18:35And Jackson having his way here
18:40in this round, round three.
18:41He did very, very well in round two,
18:43and he's picked it up in round three.
18:45He's outboxing him.
18:45I see no reason for him
18:47to get in a shootout with this guy.
18:49I mean, he can outbox him like this
18:50all the way to the title.
18:54Oh, there's a good looping right hand
18:55by John David Jackson.
18:57See, as he starts to bank these rounds
18:58and not only get a lead,
18:59he'll start to have the cues of deck take place
19:01on Castro, and all of a sudden,
19:03one of the shots will just drop him.
19:04I think he's doing it already, Bob.
19:06He's breathing very hard,
19:08and he seems to be willing.
19:09He certainly doesn't have
19:10any more offense coming out of him.
19:13Jackson going to the body of Castro.
19:15Castro just looking to protect himself,
19:18and he is really getting hit.
19:20He's opening up no offense here.
19:22He's just sitting in the corner.
19:25A stationary target is the champion,
19:27Jorge Castro, not answering back.
19:30He is in trouble.
19:31He looks like a beaten fighter.
19:32He looks like a guy that's quick.
19:34Like a guy's decided,
19:35I'm not going to take any more of this.
19:37And Jackson just running away.
19:39Several unanswered punches.
19:42Castro says, yeah, keep it coming.
19:45Well, if he doesn't do something,
19:47the referee's going to step in.
19:49I'll tell you what,
19:49I don't know what he's doing,
19:50but he's about to get himself stopped.
19:52I'll tell you what he's doing.
19:53It starts with a cue.
19:55It's quick.
19:56Castro continues to invite John David Jackson in.
20:01Is he playing possum,
20:03or is he getting destroyed here?
20:05Now he tried to come out.
20:07Well, I can't wait to see what this corner's going to say to him,
20:10because that was the height of stupidity.
20:12If you're going to quit,
20:13that's the way to do it.
20:15Less than 30 seconds remaining in round three.
20:17Here comes Castro back,
20:19digging to the ribs.
20:20But Jackson too quick,
20:22getting out of the way.
20:23He's looking for one big punch.
20:25Castro opening up now.
20:26He comes back,
20:27and he is pushing Jackson back into the corner.
20:30Well, I'll tell you what,
20:31he laid a little bit of a trap,
20:32but he still has plenty left.
20:34Those punches are not soft.
20:35They all have bad intentions.
20:37And what a finish for Castro.
20:40And Jackson is shocked and surprised by that finish.
20:44Just when he looked like he was quitting and going out,
20:46that was some kind of acting there.
20:48Bertie, I'll tell you what,
20:49he was looking very bad in that corner,
20:52but I do not think for a minute
20:53that he did enough to win the round,
20:55but boy, did he close the gap.
20:56He tried to come on the last few minutes
20:58by their round.
20:58Well, he closed the gap in Jackson's mind.
21:00I'll tell you what, let's listen.
21:03He's trying to still around for me, buddy.
21:05He's trying to kill every fucking man.
21:07Don't let the Vince do that, Jack.
21:08Keep your heart in the ground.
21:09All right, let's watch this
21:10complete pummeling by Jackson.
21:13There's no defense,
21:14I mean, no offense at all
21:16on the part of Castro.
21:18He's just willing to take those shots.
21:19True, he's not taking a lot of them,
21:21but when he came back, Bobby.
21:23Well, you see, here's something.
21:25You have a good chin,
21:25you can lay in a corner, wait,
21:27and then he comes out.
21:27He set a little bit of a trap,
21:29let Jackson waste himself,
21:30and now he's laying in big shots,
21:31and you can see there's power.
21:32He's not weak, he's not hurt.
21:34He is laying into them with those shots,
21:35and we have a fight on our hands, man.
21:37Jorge Castro, let's see if he picks up where he left off.
21:41He gave us some rope-a-dope for two and a half minutes,
21:44then finishes with a flurry.
21:47And he comes right at John David Jackson,
21:49round four for the WBA Winnaway Championship.
21:52And here goes Castro to the head of Jackson,
21:55and Jackson backpedaling in retreat.
21:57And now a left hand by Jackson.
21:59Castro's also digging a reasonable left hook
22:01to the body inside.
22:02Right hand by Castro, a glancing blow.
22:05And now Jackson jawed away,
22:08saying, come on, bring it on.
22:10Or uppercut by Castro,
22:12and Stanley Cristodoulos has got up those punches.
22:15I know what he was talking about,
22:16that was a great uppercut.
22:18Oh, Jackson ran into a left hook there.
22:21He ran into a left hook there
22:22that stunned him a little bit.
22:24He's going to need his defensive wiles now
22:26to get out of that trouble.
22:27That's twice he's been wobbled,
22:28and that time he almost caved in.
22:31So, Jorge Castro was late
22:33for John David Jackson.
22:35He was playing Pasha.
22:37Well, he sure fooled me.
22:38He looked like he was going home.
22:40Oh, good left hand there by Jackson.
22:44Oh, uppercut by Castro.
22:47And a left hand by Jackson.
22:49Some exchanges here in round four.
22:51This pace is too quick.
22:53The rate of attrition will be unbelievable.
22:57Jackson can't afford to take all that action.
23:00He's got to come back with something,
23:01and he's doing it right now.
23:02He's got to hold him off by fighting.
23:04That's what he's doing now.
23:05There's the jab of John David Jackson
23:08going back to the boxing skills.
23:11But Castro is blocking most of those punches
23:13with his glitz.
23:14And he had a big lead
23:15at the opening of this round.
23:17Good lefts here by Jackson.
23:22See, something you always have to be fearful of
23:24with a guy who has a great chin
23:25and is in good condition.
23:26He doesn't mind taking a little bit of beating early on
23:28because he knows he can weather the storm.
23:30He knows he can last,
23:30and if he's in good shape,
23:31he could be hell in the later rounds.
23:33And he goes to punching ball with his opponent.
23:35Here comes Castro again,
23:36looking to pour it on
23:37with Jackson against the ropes.
23:40And right off the cut just missed by Castro.
23:42Right off the chin.
23:43But he's landing those thundering hooks.
23:45Oh, a wild right miss there by Jackson.
23:48But Castro unable to take it.
23:49Oh, what a shot by Castro!
23:52Castro is finding the range,
23:53and he's got the bigger cannon.
23:55That was flush on the face by Castro.
23:58Very active round here.
24:01Urias exchanging.
24:03You can see Jackson's bleeding from the mouth now, too.
24:05Some of those shots are landing square in the mouth,
24:07and they are showing their results.
24:09Less than 30 seconds round four
24:11in non-stop action.
24:16Sean David Jackson
24:17living up to his nickname, Action,
24:19as they go toe-to-toe
24:22in the center of the ring.
24:24This pace cannot continue.
24:26If this fight continues like this,
24:27we cannot have a decision, Ferdy.
24:29Jackson looks like he's wearing out.
24:30He's the one that looks like
24:31he's wearing out under these punches.
24:33And Castro just keeps coming forward.
24:38And that's it for round four.
24:43Coming up next,
24:44the WBA Junior Wilderweight Championship
24:46as we go behind the scenes
24:47goes into the dressing room
24:48with the champion, Frankie Rattle,
24:49who fights on Mexican soil for the first time.
24:52There's the surgeon.
24:53It'll be interesting to hear
24:54the crowd reaction
24:55as most of the Mexican fans
24:56will be seeing him in person
24:58for the first time.
24:59The only man to beat their idol,
25:01Julio Cesar Chavez.
25:03A very vocal dressing room.
25:05The non-stop punching of Castro.
25:19This is what I mean by this aggressiveness
25:21of the Argentinian fighters.
25:23They're willing to take a shot,
25:24but when they come back,
25:25they come back with punches,
25:26like Bobby said,
25:27junk punches from all ends.
25:29Bobby.
25:29Well, you watch this fight.
25:32No matter what you do,
25:34Jackson's going to take his quick punch.
25:35He's going to work.
25:36He's going to score shots.
25:37But this Castro is going to come back with bombs.
25:39He's going to wing that right hand over the top,
25:40and they're going to land
25:41if Jackson keeps staying there.
25:42All right, here we go.
25:43And to round number five,
25:44scheduled for 12.
25:47Now, they just told Jackson in the corner,
25:48you just must keep...
25:49you must keep punching.
25:51You must keep punching.
25:53Don King just came...
25:54is so excited.
25:55He crept up to...
25:56I've never seen punching like this
25:57this early.
25:59It is round five.
26:00The fourth round,
26:01a good one for Castro,
26:02and Castro doing it again.
26:04Jackson has to stay off the ropes.
26:06He has to use that speed,
26:07use that southpaw awkwardness,
26:08and move around,
26:09step around,
26:10and keep those big right-hands
26:11and landings for play.
26:16You can hear Don King
26:18in the background.
26:19He's enjoying it.
26:21I have never seen him fight
26:23this in the right.
26:25This is a fight, fans, fight,
26:27and he is a fight fan
26:27besides being a promoter,
26:29and it's a great action fight.
26:31The fans here in Monterey
26:32are enjoying it.
26:33There's a swift combination
26:35by Jackson.
26:36There's a good left hand
26:37by John David.
26:39He both...
26:39Castro has never been knocked out.
26:42Excuse me.
26:42Both fighters look like
26:43they're slowing down a bit.
26:44They can't keep the space.
26:45As Bobby said,
26:46you can't keep a pace up like this.
26:48There it goes.
26:49That's a slip.
26:49That looked like a slip.
26:50That was an off-bound slip,
26:53but all that'll do
26:54is put an extra fire
26:55under Castro's behind.
26:56He'll be coming through there
26:57and trying to take his head off.
27:00Yeah, whatever caused it
27:02that makes the other fighter
27:03feel like, uh-oh,
27:04he's losing his legs.
27:06Now Castro coming in
27:08with those wide,
27:09looping right hands,
27:10but they are effective.
27:13See, Jackson is trying
27:14to do some of the moving,
27:15but once again,
27:15that awkward style,
27:16the looping shots,
27:17the big roundhouse shot,
27:18sometimes he moves
27:19right into that wild right
27:20or left hand,
27:20and that's something
27:21that I always say
27:23a fighter becomes effective
27:24in his awkwardness,
27:25and that's what we mean
27:26by a junk fighter in the gym.
27:27It's like a guy
27:29is trying to put
27:29some kind of semblance
27:30of order to it.
27:31Jackson's trying to get down
27:33to some kind of boxing,
27:34and the other guy
27:34is just coming from all angles.
27:36You can't put any order to it.
27:37You can't reason it out.
27:39Now he's being more effective.
27:41He's using a jab,
27:41and he's stepping around.
27:42He's pivoting combinations,
27:43and he's keeping out of the way
27:45of, uh, that big looping right.
27:47Now right up above us,
27:49Castro continues to chase
27:50Jackson missing
27:53with most of that.
27:57This has been wild
27:58from the opening bell.
27:59Oh, a good left hand
28:00by Jackson that pushed
28:02Castro's head back.
28:04Watch your head back.
28:05Castro doesn't even try
28:06to defend himself
28:07like he was before
28:08with his gloves up.
28:09He's just coming in.
28:10He doesn't care what hits him
28:11so long as he gets a shot back.
28:13Well, he's got a mindset.
28:14He wanted to shoot out.
28:15He's got it.
28:16Sometimes you shouldn't wish
28:17for certain things.
28:17You might get what you want.
28:18But coming from the nose
28:20of Castro, again,
28:21Castro getting tagged
28:22with some shots here.
28:26Well, his corner man
28:27told me this is the kind
28:28of fight he loves.
28:29Just to get in,
28:29just when you think
28:30this guy's running
28:31running out of gas,
28:32he comes on.
28:33This Castro has some chin.
28:35And there's the bell
28:37ending round five.
28:38the bifurc!
28:46They got to put him
28:47in the bifurc!
28:48Great!
28:48Here you go.
28:49Hey, I've never seen this!
28:50Here you go.
28:52Look at him out.
28:52Very good.
28:55I'm going to put him in the
28:56city.
28:57What are you doing about?
28:58The town?
28:58We're going to the town.
29:00You need the town.
29:00You need the town.
29:01Him and the town.
29:01Look out the cup.
29:02one more.
29:02Look out the cup.
29:03One more.
29:04Look out the cup.
29:04and see whether it's legitimate slip there's just absolutely nothing to it
29:19see i mean there was he was even throwing the punch when he slipped his foot came up he just
29:23kind of hit his heel and it came out from under him it's a straight slip nothing to it well this
29:28is a very close fight bobby up to this point i got him ahead by one point i'm talking about jackson
29:33it could be the other way i don't know because this is some kind of a rough tough action fight i have
29:39jackson ahead by a little more than that birdie but it is a fight that is very close and again you
29:43swing one round it swings two points and that changes big things well round five was a slightly
29:48slower pace but still plenty of good punches we are into round six for the wba middleweight
29:54championship scheduled for 12. and it has been virtually non-stop action
30:03here's a looping right hand by jackson that's getting in and here we go back to
30:07castro's favorite corner this is where he played posham in the early going and then came out
30:13with abandon he's not getting hit as flush he gets hit with some of those poking shots but he's not
30:19getting hit the flush with bombs and there it is again almost like deja vu as castro comes
30:24bolting out of that corner and a hard right hand by castro but jackson answers back and jackson showing
30:29a good chin oh there's no quitting either man they're both here to fight they're both here
30:35to keep her keep work get that championship what a start to this quadruple oh all right and answering
30:42back again is jack jackson with another straight left hand and another that was three straight boy can
30:49this guy take it castro whoa i mean jackson shows me that he wants this more than anything just when
30:57you think he gets red knocked he comes right back two three four punches he is fighting with more
31:02determination i think i've ever seen him fight castro we can see why he's only been knocked down once in 101
31:08fight and that was eight years ago he has a great chin he's also in good condition and those two
31:14things will keep a man in front of you a good long time actually maybe starting to wonder what do i have
31:22to do to put this guy down he said he'd watch the films of him and norris he said he knew norris he
31:31knows norris can punch he's a good crisp puncher he so he expected this fight to really go a long way
31:37he thought if he was going to be effective he had to get him to back up if he was going to stop him
31:40but he wasn't counting well jackson told us he tries to frustrate his opponent with lots of movement
31:46but castro's hanging right in there
31:50i'm doing all the fight all of the fighting right now you're expecting that explosion from
31:55castro hadn't come yet he's blowing around jackson almost tripped there but maintains his footing
32:01wild miss by castro there's a right hand that did not miss by castro and now castro airing it out
32:08he always fights in bursts and this is another one of those bursts
32:13low blow there by castro but christodoulou right there
32:20now jackson operating to the head but those were pitter-cut
32:22jackson's legs don't look so great well you know it takes a lot to move like that you got a guy right
32:32in front of pressure here those body shots are healthy they don't look that bad to me but
32:37overall there's got to be a debilitating effect from this pace
32:48come on
32:50i feel like they're losing by points the first half of the fight is over we're going into the second
33:14interesting to see they think they're losing the fight and they are
33:20they want to go bear so don't stand up to the hill of bell stay down as long as you can
33:38well the mercury may be steadily dropping but the action continues to heat up more great action
33:44around six this is round number seven we've seen some great activity we still have three more world
33:49title fights on the horizon on this particular pay-per-view broadcast oh good left hand there by jackson
33:56you see oh the perspiration flying on castro's head castro's in some trouble and jackson sensing it
34:03wants to end it right here i think castro got hit in the eye with one of those shots
34:09it looked like he had some blood around it but it looks like a thumb went in his eye because he really
34:13really fell back like that yeah it looked like he got hit directly in the eye that you hardly ever
34:19see a guy grab his eye and fall back unless he's been thumped see look at all the blood of the face of
34:24castro coming from the eye like every time i've seen a guy grab his eye like that and fall back as
34:30the thumb went in boy there's a big cut or something he's bleeding greatly there i mean it looks like
34:36it's on his right eye but you can't tell him so much blood and uh jackson taking a looking to take
34:43advantage of this situation a lot of blood over the right eye of castro it's also carrying over to the
34:51left side of his face yeah i can't see where the cut is but it doesn't look like it's in a good place
34:55because there's blood all around the eye and someone's got to be getting inside and there's
34:59some on his mouth and he is puffing up so jackson his his attack is beginning to show on the face
35:07and it's a battered face of castro castro is a bloody mess halfway through round seven
35:12scheduled for 12. wild misses there by castro and he may have problems seeing out of that right eye
35:20well if he survives this and he goes back to the corner the corner's gonna tell him you got one
35:26more run you better do it well actually almost toying with castro now moving side to side you can
35:31find out the worth of a cut man especially in the world championship fight i've seen many a cut man
35:34save the title he has his work cut out for him here jackson continues to take aim at that damaged eye
35:40but castro showing tremendous heart fighting back well we don't know who's ahead bobby and i both have
35:47jackson ahead so all jackson has to do is be clever here and he might have himself a world championship
35:53you can see all the blood on the referee's arm and there is plenty of blood
36:00apparently castro senses that and he is mounting a heavy attack
36:05and there is no range on castro's punches they are missing as jackson just has his way
36:12throwing combinations to the head of the champion castro jackson is just out boxing him beautifully now
36:22pretty duck under both by jackson spinning castro around final seconds of round seven
36:28now jackson's in a beautiful position here all he's got to do is do what he does best box he's doing
36:33exactly what he wanted to do and it's getting the job done castro showing a lot of courage despite being
36:38hurt still came forward well here's where the good cut men come in let's see how they do it let's go to
36:44that corner and let's listen to him
36:52that remarkably unexcited look at the size of that cut right on the lid
37:05louis spotted the cut man they're not they're not excited here
37:10that's wrong or something like that all right you're asking real carefully please look at the size of
37:16that whoa
37:23and here goes what looked like a thumb see right there now watch him grab his eye there it is
37:30you see he's falling back grabbing his eyes you can't see when you get thumb like that it hurts like
37:33you know and you can't see and he's just trying to survive the battle till his eyes clear up
37:39a lot of guts he did that very cool and composed have been through so many fights
37:46they're just cool and composed in that particular corner
37:51well being as close as we are fellas you might want to check your cup guard with all the blood
37:56that's running out of the ring it's one of those nights we had a bloody night in mexico city last month
38:04and it seems like we're picking up where we left off right hand there by castor there is no quit in
38:10this club watch those low blows says stanley christodoulou who has blood all over his left sleeve
38:15he was grabbing him behind the head and uppercutting hitting and holding is not good and that's a sign
38:20of desperation he's trying to hold the target straight so he can hit it and you can't do that
38:24yeah a little desperation and frustration because on the inside jackson ties him up very well
38:29and on the outside he gets out speeded jackson's boxing masterfully here
38:35jackson very resentful toward louis spotter who is also the promoter and manager
38:40aside from being the cut man of the champion castro they
38:44the people of jackson feel it was a conspiracy by spotty and company look out to take away the title
38:54and jackson now looking to get it back yeah he's actually uh his corner and his people are
39:00informing that he's actually fighting this under protest because one of the judges was slipped in
39:04last minute and uh he's taking care of it right now he's judge jury and for all effective purposes
39:10executioner here so a late substitute at guadaluna mexico city is the man in question bobby and yes
39:15indeed john david jackson is taking it all out on castro john is playing cat and mouse there he's
39:22jabbing when he wants to he's popping that eye when he wants to he's fighting a masterful fight
39:31you see that jab is just so accurate it's right there it's right in castro's face it's causing all
39:36kinds of problems and then the straight left comes right behind it and then jackson basically is
39:40doing what he wants now because at the beginning castro held his gloves up that jab was nothing
39:45now castro can't hold his hands up and that jab is something of a destroyer this is only castro's
39:52second defense of this title the last one november the fifth a second round knockout of alex ramos
39:59but certainly a different story here against the undefeated john david jackson 33-0 19 knockout
40:06watch your head you know it's amazing to me alex ramos and i were friends many years ago and he
40:10retired and automatically he got back into a title fight already amazing
40:19well this is settling into uh repeat rounds now it's settling into i don't know what he can do to win
40:26rounds because it doesn't look like jackson's gonna get caught by any of those crazy shots and he is
40:31doing a masterful job of it tattooing the face of castro's getting to be a big ugly mess as we head for
40:38the bell
40:55well coming up next the wba junior well away championship as we duck in backstage to the
41:00dressing with the challenger rocking rodney moore on the threshold of his second world title shot losing
41:06his only previous try to charles murray last may for the ibf junior welterweight crowd he'll be
41:11taking on frankie rental that's coming up next
41:14the doctor has come in in the meantime and let him continue
41:30almost no reason to let that go on but this is a championship fight and you've got to give the
41:35champion a chance at least and he's got four more rounds to do it i doubt this fight will go the whole
41:40four rounds if they have the quality of mercy is not strained here in monterey that may be stopped on
41:45a cup gaping hole over the right eye of jorge castro uh-oh uh-oh is right and low blow connects
41:55and uh stanley chris villa says let's go on yeah don't they usually give you more time there yeah
42:00jackson said it's nothing it's nothing the problem was really something that didn't do anything and
42:05jackson continues to land connecting with those combinations casserole could have got a little
42:09more rest but i think he was uh not really hurt just uh just a bit surprised or stunned yeah
42:15he went right back to the freight seventh round when castro sustained that wicked cut 20 seconds
42:21into the round castro still getting hit in the eye in the round number eight
42:27straight left hand is finding a home
42:36now it looks like jackson's almost having fun he's got the heavy bag in front of him he's popping it
42:40everywhere he wants
42:45right on the mark he's looking real hard at that eye i wouldn't be surprised
42:51he's really looking at that eye now you know you've got to think about stopping a fight like this it's a
42:55run-way route going on here and the damage is being done to the eye it's opening it up more and more and
43:00more no real big punches getting through clean right now it's kind of a pitter pat and a playing
43:05section and because of his pattern of laying in the weight so to speak and taking some abuse to
43:11then go into an onslaught the referee may give him the benefit of the doubt for now i think he did
43:16in the championship fight he is the champion he's given him the benefit of the doubt i'm not sure
43:21you know at this point he's still got a chance if he if he can connect
43:27dim chance yeah he needs to hit a home run uh real soon
43:32well john david jackson who's also a part-time model and has his eye on a broadcasting career
43:38it's a good thing now castro doesn't have the career of a model the way his face looks right now
43:44castro's in trouble too right now we're we're closing in on the end yeah if he applies himself
43:48now he can stop oh goes jackson out of nowhere a big left hook unbelievable he staggers to his feet can
43:59he continue oh he is out of it this could be it castro comes racing in and out he goes again
44:07for the second time unbelievable steve it was one big left hook he walked into it can he survive less
44:15than 30 seconds in round nine that is now the question three knockdown rule in effect and that
44:21is it the third knockdown here in this round it's all over what an unbelievable turnaround and comeback for
44:28jorge castro who remains champion steve i could see into his eyes he fell right in front of me for
44:34the last time he does not have his mental faculties intact right now it was a big left hand he walked
44:40right into it just a winging shot once again he got a little confident a little too careful careless
44:46that right hand and jabbing right hand down by his hip laying on his side whoo right into the hook
44:51as we said when you say you have a dim chance but there is a chance and you got to punch it like this
44:57this is why he let him continue so you got to give the referee credit he let him continue and the
45:03champion is still the champion of the world what an incredible scene as jorge castro is hoisted up
45:11he was down he was out he had that cut eye he was a bloody mess and out of nowhere here in round nine
45:19john david jackson put on the canvas three times and all he needed to do all he needed to do was be
45:28careful be safe and he had this fight in his pocket and then the the champion castro did exactly what
45:35he'd done two or three times before bobby he just lulled him into something and then came back fighting
45:40real hard where does he get the heart to do that bobby well that's part of his style it's what he needed to
45:45do here he's been doing it all night laying laying laying and he comes out with the left hook every
45:50time he did it earlier he did in the previous rounds he did it again here and it landed home and now
45:54there's a medical concern of course for jackson let's take a look as the doctors look at jackson let's
45:59us look at this miracle in monterey this is something i did not expect to see i could not
46:06now castro looks like all he's got to do jackson is finish him off castro is definitely in big trouble
46:12let's watch the one punch that keeps him keeps his title for him there's a winging shot now now
46:18castro's thinking miss hit and down he goes not only that but when he hit the deck you watch that
46:24knock down again he hits the deck and his head slams into the canvas now let's look bobby this is the
46:30same thing you take you take a look at it again you watch jackson's doing his thing he's coming forward
46:33he's doing what he wants using the jab to be effective setting up boom that straight left hand that one once
46:38again hit him and i heard him but here he has his hands down he's a little sloppy it's late in the
46:43fight he's a little tired but he's staring watch now he'll stop and he'll stare he's just staring at him
46:48a little while and he doesn't look and he walks in comes in with that right hand down he's looking he's
46:53looking not watching the punches just watching the fighter's eyes and let's take it one more time
46:58because this is so astounding you just got to see it by now you're used to what you're looking at so
47:03really focus on the punch that does it one punch and it's the same thing that bobby talked about
47:08junk fighters that throw punches from nowhere look at this bobby well you know what he does he
47:13he has a left hook that he always jumps out off the ropes with he's done it two or three rounds
47:18previous and he does it again here he misses with right boom he just wings he wings one side he misses
47:24the right hand and just takes all that weight and swing it again and it landed and you saw what the
47:30results were and by the way jackson is still down unlike the disaster we had uh a few weeks ago this
47:37time he's being well attended by doctors and everybody's still around him
47:43john david jackson who was up on all three judges cards he gives the thumbs up sign to indicate that
47:50he's okay thank goodness for that what a gutsy effort though by the champion jorge castro
47:55who seemed to be out of it and then he unleashes that riveting left hook that sent jackson sprawling to
48:03the canvas he went down two more times after that of course the three knockdown rule in the world boxing
48:08association and it was all over in round nine what a great feeling for jorge castro
48:15jorge castro let's get the official call right now from our ring announcer jimmy lennon jr

50:37excited and the only one that isn't excited as a fighter did you think you were going to win at the
50:45end he said he thought he could knock him out twice but then he knew he was losing he knew he had a cut
51:11he knew he was way behind on points he knew he had to do something dramatic he was glad that they
51:15didn't stop the fight and that he could good finish esto te recuerda de galindes y richard gates
51:20he said i knew i knew i could do it i felt his punches i knew i was getting dizzy but i could do it
51:50it i knew i could do it i missed him with one but i hit him with the next he said it was a very hard
51:59punch i didn't think he could get up but when he got up i thought it was over
52:04completely he feels once the first punch landed he was going to knock him out the rest was just
52:18window dressing he didn't think he could get up luisa espada you took very good care of the cut
52:23did you think it was going to stop well we was asking to the doctor to give a few more rounds
52:29because we was lucky that was not bleeding the cut that was a very bad cut and we was confident
52:36that the heart and the guts of jorge castro can make the two eras tú eres el campeón y ganaste del

53:15no i was getting up with reference to stay down i'm sorry last knockdown i was getting up with the
53:19reference to stay down i see did you think you could have gotten up and fought a more well i

53:28i got careless let's take one more look at it we looked at it before here here is where you almost
53:33have finished the fight you talk hey you see i'm controlling the fight but um you know you're driving
53:39him to the ropes right see watch this i got i got i got careless you see my hands are down when he's
53:45going to come out of nowhere i'm careless i'm digging your head is wide open right that's the
53:50problem boom boom miss hit and there you go when you went down did you feel anything would you
53:56think you you lost no well yeah i felt that i was hurt because he threw a good punch um my only
54:01intent at that time was to get back up and try to finish the round you know but those things
54:05happen i was going to fight handling he was busted up but um you know he stayed in and they didn't
54:09stop the fight why i don't know but um he's champion now and i got to give him his credit what credit's due
54:14hopefully uh medica uh we can get together maybe and uh work we're going to rematch all right
