00:01Hi, it's Larry Herb, Xbox Live's Major Nelson, here with Albert Piniello from the Xbox product team.
00:05Albert, great to see you.
00:06How are you, my friend?
00:07I'm doing great.
00:08Awesome stuff coming out of Gamescom in Germany, especially a brand new feature coming to Xbox One owners.
00:13Let's talk about that.
00:14Yes, yes, we announced probably one of the most requested features we've seen on the user feedback site,
00:20something I know that both you and I get a lot of feedback directly on from fans, which is our
00:24local media player.
00:25Not only that supports local files off of your USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 thumbsticks or hard drives,
00:32but also supports network media players through DLNA.
00:36Albert, for those that may not know what DLNA is, can you explain that?
00:39Sure. DLNA is basically a protocol that allows video, photos, and music to be streamed off of network devices and
00:48consumed on other devices.
00:49Basically, there's a lot of people that have home servers where there are photos, their movies, their music is stored
00:56centrally
00:56and then streamed out to different devices in their home, and now Xbox One will be a DLNA client.
01:01We talked about it briefly on stage, but let's talk about some of the formats that the media player will
01:06support.
01:06We basically support all of the standard codecs that you would come to expect for images, for audio, MP3s, and
01:14WMAs, for video, H.264, MPEG, WMVs.
01:19But we have also added a bunch of new enthusiast codecs, things like WMA Lossless, AVI Divix, and XVID, as
01:28well as MKVs.
01:29Wow, that's a lot. I mean, if memory serves correctly, that's actually more than the Xbox 360.
01:33Yeah, we support a lot more codecs on this version of media player than we did before.
01:38We should have the full list, way more than I can remember, and we should have the full list available
01:42online.
01:43Yeah, and also make sure I post it on the blog.
01:45Of course.
01:45Albert, when can we get the media player for Xbox One?
01:47Coming this fall.
01:48Thank you very much.
