00:00:00My God, my God, my God, my God, my God
00:00:55Good evening, knockout football has arrived
00:00:58in this season's Champions League.
00:01:00First leg playoff action on the way
00:01:02with no shortage of goals and talking points.
00:01:05Across everything for us tonight,
00:01:07Thomas Hitzelsberger, Leon Osman
00:01:09and European football expert Guilherme Balaguet.
00:01:12We'll reflect on events at Benfica versus Real Madrid
00:01:15later tonight, but we begin with Newcastle's
00:01:185,000-mile round trip to Azerbaijan.
00:01:21Karabag, known as the Horseman,
00:01:23came through qualifying to make it to the Champions League
00:01:25for the first time in eight years,
00:01:26and they'd never won a main draw match
00:01:29in the competition before this season.
00:01:32On the edge of the Caspian Sea,
00:01:35something has been stirring.
00:01:37The Horsemen of Karabag ride again.
00:01:40Two down at Benfica in their league stage opener
00:01:42and then...
00:01:44history.
00:01:45A first Champions League victory for a side from Azerbaijan.
00:01:50Into their stride now
00:01:51and back on home soil against Copenhagen.
00:01:54One became two.
00:01:57Their next visitors were Chelsea.
00:01:59A goal down and again fearless in transition.
00:02:03A two-all draw, hard-earned.
00:02:07They trailed Frankfurt with ten to go.
00:02:11Tick followed top.
00:02:14Despite a heavy defeat at Anfield,
00:02:16they were through.
00:02:17Now Newcastle United stand between the Horsemen
00:02:21and the round of 16.
00:02:26And commentary on this one comes from Guy Mowbrie.
00:02:31Newcastle are a long way from home,
00:02:33but only two short games away
00:02:35from a place in the last 16.
00:02:38Whatever the outcome,
00:02:39this is an historic match and tie for both clubs.
00:02:42But for Eddie Howe's team,
00:02:44only one outcome is acceptable.
00:02:47For Karabag,
00:02:48it's the same side that started at Liverpool
00:02:50three weeks ago before losing 6-0.
00:02:52And in fact, nine of the team,
00:02:54all bar Marko Jankovic and Honi Montiel,
00:02:57have been in the line-up
00:02:58for every Champions League game this season.
00:03:01Newcastle's team shows four changes
00:03:03from Saturday's FA Cup win at Aston Villa
00:03:06with Nick Pope, Joe Willock,
00:03:08Anthony Langer and Anthony Gordon coming in.
00:03:11Joe Linton is back in the squad
00:03:12and on the bench after six games out.
00:03:15Johan Wisser has again been ruled out by injury.
00:03:19Eddie Howe's 215th match
00:03:22as Newcastle's boss,
00:03:25Dan Byrne, gets forward
00:03:26and looks for Gordon.
00:03:27And Anthony Gordon
00:03:29gives Newcastle a glorious start in Baku.
00:03:34Dan Byrne allowed to stride as far as he wanted.
00:03:37Got just the right way to pass for Gordon.
00:03:40And that's his Champions League form
00:03:42in one shot right there.
00:03:44His seventh goal in the competition.
00:03:48Off they go.
00:03:50Byrne.
00:03:58Willock on the run.
00:04:00Holds off the challenge,
00:04:01has help from Barnes now.
00:04:04Well saved by Kochelski.
00:04:07What a start to the game.
00:04:08It's end-to-end attack from both teams.
00:04:15Pan Byrne ready.
00:04:18Kieran Trippier pride.
00:04:21Something more orthodox now.
00:04:31And it's headed in for two.
00:04:32And it's headed in for two.
00:04:34Under eight minutes in.
00:04:37Malik Chow stands tall
00:04:40and Newcastle are soaring in Azerbaijan.
00:04:45Well worth every penny.
00:04:47All those hours.
00:04:48All that expense for the Newcastle fans.
00:04:51Hall heard the call from Tonali and left it.
00:04:55Back to Trippier who puts in a beauty.
00:04:58And Chow gets up off the floor.
00:05:01Climbs above Pedro Bicalio
00:05:03and makes it Carabag nil.
00:05:07Newcastle United two.
00:05:12Tonali.
00:05:13Gordon.
00:05:15Ilanga.
00:05:17Oh Gordon's through again.
00:05:18Anthony Gordon denied by Kochelski.
00:05:24He really ought to have been celebrating
00:05:26being 3-0 up.
00:05:27But credit
00:05:30Mateusz Kochelski with the save.
00:05:35Kravakuliev
00:05:36played it up to Zubier
00:05:38but he's been robbed by Willock.
00:05:40Looking for Barnes.
00:05:42Brilliant ball.
00:05:43Barnes still might have the chance.
00:05:44Gordon might now
00:05:45but Kochelski
00:05:46is off his line at the right time.
00:05:49It's only 2-0 at half time
00:05:50then
00:05:51I think everybody in that
00:05:52Carabag dressing room
00:05:53will be shaking the hands
00:05:54of their goalkeeper.
00:05:57Gordon.
00:05:59Hall.
00:06:01Barnes.
00:06:02Willock.
00:06:05It's not the keeper in the way
00:06:06it's defenders in the way.
00:06:10VAR springing into action again
00:06:12with a potential check for
00:06:13handball.
00:06:18The explanation has
00:06:20come up from
00:06:22the video assistant referee
00:06:24Mateusz Silva
00:06:25the number two
00:06:26touched the ball
00:06:26with his left arm
00:06:27which was in an unnatural position
00:06:29and away from the body.
00:06:32But what a chance
00:06:33for Newcastle
00:06:33to go 3-0 up.
00:06:35They've got a penalty.
00:06:37Everything
00:06:38is going their way.
00:06:46Gordon scores
00:06:49emphatically to
00:06:52how many of those
00:06:53Newcastle fans
00:06:54who made the
00:06:55two and a half
00:06:56thousand mile trip
00:06:58tobacco
00:06:59really thought
00:07:00it would go like this.

00:10:17but
00:10:17but

00:10:24takes it away
00:10:25from
00:10:25Java
00:10:26Kuliev
00:10:27and has
00:10:27a go
00:10:27and it's
00:10:28deflected in
00:10:31Newcastle United
00:10:32have hit
00:10:33Carabag
00:10:33for six
00:10:35and Jacob
00:10:36Murphy
00:10:37gets to
00:10:38celebrate his
00:10:39first ever goal
00:10:40in this competition
00:10:42and it flicked
00:10:43to Carabag
00:10:44head
00:10:44on its way
00:10:45past
00:10:46Kochelski
00:10:49but it is
00:10:50because it was
00:10:50on target
00:10:51Murphy's goal
00:10:52all right
00:10:54that's what it
00:10:54means to him
00:10:57Murphy to
00:10:58Tonali
00:10:58and returned
00:10:59quickly
00:11:01Sula out
00:11:02on the right
00:11:03Niamh
00:11:04is the player
00:11:04in the main
00:11:05striker's role
00:11:06now
00:11:08flag wave
00:11:09for a Newcastle
00:11:10pre-kick
00:11:10Osula
00:11:10the player
00:11:11who was
00:11:16impeded
00:11:22swung in by
00:11:23Murphy
00:11:24first of all
00:11:25saved
00:11:25or second of all
00:11:26saved
00:11:27brilliant
00:11:27Kochelski
00:11:30Neve
00:11:31keeps the attack
00:11:32going
00:11:32another attempt
00:11:34goes wide
00:11:35this time
00:11:36from Chow
00:11:38first burn
00:11:40then Osula
00:11:41who really
00:11:42should have
00:11:42put that away
00:11:44I don't think
00:11:45there's much doubt
00:11:45about Carabag
00:11:47man of the match
00:11:48goalkeeper
00:11:48Mateusz Kochelski
00:11:50has kept this
00:11:51in single figures
00:11:55when we're at
00:11:56our very best
00:11:56we can be a match
00:11:57for anybody
00:11:57the system
00:11:58that we're playing
00:11:59is the system
00:12:00that we've played
00:12:00really consistently
00:12:01for four years
00:12:02here
00:12:04but the personnel
00:12:05slightly different
00:12:05so we played
00:12:06Volta Mardy
00:12:07slightly lower
00:12:08and Anthony
00:12:08higher
00:12:09I think naturally
00:12:10you then see
00:12:11different strengths
00:12:12in the players
00:12:13Anthony's running
00:12:13ability
00:12:14and his pace
00:12:14I think shown
00:12:15that he wants
00:12:16to play there
00:12:16which is hugely
00:12:17important
00:12:17and then he's
00:12:17got the qualities
00:12:18to play
00:12:18that I thought
00:12:19his pressing
00:12:20today was
00:12:21incredible for us
00:12:22I think that gave
00:12:22us the platform
00:12:23to build
00:12:24off of the back
00:12:24of his work
00:12:25and a lot of
00:12:26high pressing
00:12:26regains
00:12:26a lot of
00:12:27counter-attack
00:12:27opportunities
00:12:28for us
00:12:28and of course
00:12:29he's taken
00:12:30the four goals
00:12:30and will get
00:12:31the headlines
00:12:31naturally
00:12:32but I thought
00:12:32his all-round game
00:12:33was really strong
00:12:34Eddie
00:12:34obviously the penalty
00:12:36situation
00:12:37has obviously
00:12:38got some headlines
00:12:39back home
00:12:40with the TV analysis
00:12:41but I guess you've
00:12:42had worse problems
00:12:43than two players
00:12:44wanting to take
00:12:44a penalty
00:12:46yeah I'm not quite
00:12:46100% sure what
00:12:48happened in that
00:12:48moment
00:12:48I think Anthony
00:12:50naturally wanted
00:12:50to take the second
00:12:51penalty and I
00:12:52understand why
00:12:52there's a debate
00:12:53over it sometimes
00:12:54that's not clear
00:12:55when there's two
00:12:56in one game
00:12:56but he took both
00:12:57penalties superbly
00:12:58I'm pleased with that
00:12:59and I think
00:13:00Kieran's only ever
00:13:00trying to help the
00:13:01team so I think
00:13:02it's as you said
00:13:03a positive situation
00:13:04rather than negative
00:13:05yeah we'll get on
00:13:06to that
00:13:07and we gave it
00:13:08the big build-up
00:13:09because Carabag
00:13:10was supposed to
00:13:10turn up and give
00:13:11Newcastle a real
00:13:12lesson weren't they
00:13:13tonight and show
00:13:14them how good
00:13:15they've been in the
00:13:15Champions League
00:13:16but look at that
00:13:16the first half
00:13:17stats I don't
00:13:18think you've ever
00:13:18seen anything
00:13:19quite so one-sided
00:13:21Thomas have you
00:13:22definitely not
00:13:23all I can see
00:13:23is zeros on
00:13:24Carabag's side
00:13:25and I think this
00:13:26is I'm not
00:13:27exaggerating the
00:13:27most one-sided
00:13:28first half I've
00:13:29seen in this
00:13:30competition and
00:13:31yes of course
00:13:31they're in this
00:13:32round now but
00:13:33credit to Eddie
00:13:34Howe and Newcastle
00:13:34side the way
00:13:35they went there
00:13:35they've been on
00:13:36the front foot
00:13:37from the first
00:13:37minute on they
00:13:38deserve you know
00:13:39this performance
00:13:39in the first half
00:13:40and then I think
00:13:41it's quite tricky
00:13:41to go into the
00:13:42second half are
00:13:42you going to go
00:13:43for more are
00:13:44you going to
00:13:44take the foot
00:13:45off the gas
00:13:45and how many
00:13:46times do we see
00:13:47that when a team
00:13:47scores four or
00:13:48five goals in the
00:13:49first half and
00:13:49sometimes scores
00:13:50nothing in the
00:13:53game plan and
00:13:54their two and a
00:13:55half thousand
00:13:55travelling fans
00:13:56were just thrilled
00:13:57as Thomas said
00:13:58to see them go
00:13:59at it from
00:13:59minute one
00:14:00yeah because
00:14:01Carabag have
00:14:02been good at
00:14:02home but
00:14:02Newcastle with
00:14:04their game plan
00:14:05absolutely blew
00:14:05them away it
00:14:06was a terrific
00:14:07start to the
00:14:07game I mean
00:14:08Eddie Howe says
00:14:09that the way
00:14:10they pressed
00:14:11Anthony Gordon
00:14:11in particular
00:14:12gave them a
00:14:13great platform
00:14:13to build but
00:14:14it was how
00:14:14organised they
00:14:15were behind
00:14:15them you see
00:14:16quite often you'd
00:14:17think going away
00:14:18in the Champions
00:14:18League first
00:14:19minute of the
00:14:19game will be
00:14:19secure will stay
00:14:21in spaces no
00:14:21look how quick
00:14:22Hall is up
00:14:23on the pitch
00:14:23Burn is across
00:14:24into left back
00:14:25to make sure
00:14:26that they're
00:14:26man-to-man
00:14:27everywhere on
00:14:27the pitch
00:14:28which gives
00:14:28Anthony Gordon
00:14:28the chance
00:14:29to go press
00:14:30the goalkeeper
00:14:30and they were
00:14:31so aggressive
00:14:32right from the
00:14:33very first
00:14:34whistle as I
00:14:35said that that
00:14:36just gave them
00:14:36the opportunity
00:14:37to then get
00:14:38further up the
00:14:39pitch get
00:14:39players into
00:14:40very dangerous
00:14:42attacking positions
00:14:42everybody getting
00:14:44into the penalty
00:14:44area and even
00:14:46with that
00:14:46Tonali quite
00:14:47organised on the
00:14:48edge of the
00:14:49penalty area in case
00:14:49anything come out
00:14:50but Anthony
00:14:51Gordon yes he
00:14:52may have scored
00:14:52four goals but
00:14:53he didn't stop
00:14:54working he didn't
00:14:54stop setting the
00:14:56tone and again
00:14:57Hall up from
00:14:57left back and I
00:14:59just think if you're
00:15:00going to go away
00:15:00from home and
00:15:01you're going to be
00:15:02this aggressive
00:15:03you're going to not
00:15:04risk things because
00:15:05you're certainly
00:15:06still leaving yourself
00:15:07man-to-man at the
00:15:08back but if you're
00:15:08prepared to be as
00:15:09brave as they were
00:15:10then you're going to
00:15:11be able to give
00:15:12these top players like
00:15:14Gordon like Barnes
00:15:15like Walter Marder
00:15:16an opportunity to go
00:15:17and show what they
00:15:18can do in real
00:15:19aggressive moments of
00:15:20the pitch and just
00:15:21to show again from
00:15:22the kick-off Thomas
00:15:23they go and get the
00:15:24goal he loved it and
00:15:26that's why as you
00:15:27just said sometimes
00:15:28when you take so
00:15:28much risk you play
00:15:29man-against-man you
00:15:30open up in the back
00:15:31but that never
00:15:31happened and they
00:15:32just didn't lose
00:15:33their appetite they
00:15:34kept going to that
00:15:35degree that Carabac
00:15:36some of these players
00:15:37you talk about
00:15:38established Champions
00:15:38League players they
00:15:39were actually frightened
00:15:40to get on the ball
00:15:41they lost the ball
00:15:42easily and the
00:15:43chances kept coming
00:15:44and every single
00:15:45player in this
00:15:45Newcastle United side
00:15:46in the first half
00:15:47they were so hungry
00:15:48to hunt the ball
00:15:49keep going and
00:15:50Eddie Howe said in
00:15:51the press conference
00:15:51that Nick
00:15:52Woltemar in this
00:15:53new position for him
00:15:54works really well
00:15:55it gives Anthony
00:15:56Gordon more space
00:15:57and there you go
00:15:58again in the
00:15:59opposition box so
00:16:00many bodies in there
00:16:01that's what you're
00:16:01asking for and they
00:16:03kept doing that and
00:16:04of course they were
00:16:04all smiles at
00:16:05half-time and they
00:16:06had a really good
00:16:07break at half-time
00:16:08Anthony Gordon's
00:16:09four goals see him
00:16:10eclipse by some way
00:16:11Alan Shearer's record
00:16:12in the Champions League
00:16:14and he now sits
00:16:15between have you heard
00:16:15of that guy at the top
00:16:16Kylian Mbappe
00:16:17yeah he's on 13
00:16:19another Englishman
00:16:20Harry Kane on 8
00:16:21behind him
00:16:22but of course Kane
00:16:22hasn't had a chance
00:16:23to score any goals
00:16:24in this round
00:16:24because Bayern Munich
00:16:25haven't had to go
00:16:25through this phase
00:16:26but it's so impressive
00:16:28his goal scoring
00:16:29in Europe
00:16:30you've worked with him
00:16:31you've known him
00:16:32from a very young age
00:16:33did you see this
00:16:34kind of goal scoring
00:16:35prowess
00:16:36you could see the talent
00:16:37there's absolutely
00:16:38no doubt you could
00:16:39see the talent
00:16:39whether I thought
00:16:40he'd be a goal scorer
00:16:41to this magnitude
00:16:42scoring goals regularly
00:16:43in the Champions League
00:16:45I'm not so sure
00:16:46but it's up to him
00:16:47and how he's developed
00:16:48and you know
00:16:48he's seen him
00:16:49on the left side
00:16:50we're seeing him
00:16:50now through the middle
00:16:51with Walter Marder
00:16:52in behind
00:16:53Eddie Howe talking
00:16:54about how the balance
00:16:55just seems right
00:16:56and seems to fit
00:16:57so if they do continue
00:16:58this and they do keep
00:16:59this sort of system
00:17:00and style
00:17:01which does suit them both
00:17:02then I actually see him
00:17:03scoring more
00:17:03I think he can progress
00:17:04from this as well
00:17:05yeah and he's really
00:17:06enjoying his European football
00:17:07how far
00:17:08how deep
00:17:09do you think Newcastle
00:17:09can go in this competition
00:17:10if they come through
00:17:11the second leg
00:17:12don't be presumptuous
00:17:13but you know
00:17:14should they come through
00:17:15next Tuesday
00:17:15probably well
00:17:17they come from
00:17:18the Premier League
00:17:19where every minute
00:17:19there is a battle
00:17:20where you have to fight
00:17:22every single ball
00:17:23where you have to run
00:17:24all the time
00:17:24I'm not sure players
00:17:25do you enjoy that
00:17:26that much
00:17:26and then you come to Europe
00:17:28there's a little bit
00:17:28more of space
00:17:29you can play well
00:17:30as you said
00:17:32they go in the front foot
00:17:34and you get results
00:17:35so doing the same thing
00:17:36that they do in the Premier League
00:17:37you get results
00:17:38so I feel that
00:17:38this is like the Aston Villa
00:17:39it's like they're enjoying it
00:17:41they're going to go for it
00:17:42he articulated that himself
00:17:43didn't he Gordon
00:17:44a few matches ago
00:17:45saying how much space
00:17:47he gets in Europe
00:17:48compared to the Premier League
00:17:49which he was a little bit
00:17:50scathing actually
00:17:51about kind of how
00:17:52you know
00:17:52Premier League football
00:17:53restricts him in a way
00:17:54which maybe
00:17:55you know
00:17:56he has a point
00:17:57yeah absolutely
00:17:57as Giam said
00:17:58the Premier League
00:17:59is so intense
00:18:00that sometimes
00:18:01when you go into Europe
00:18:02that you do get
00:18:04bits of space
00:18:05you do get moments in game
00:18:06five and ten minute periods
00:18:07where everything just seems to calm
00:18:09and there's a bit of
00:18:09a spell of possession
00:18:10and then you can burst into life
00:18:12and when you've got his pace
00:18:13and his ability
00:18:14and you've got people behind him
00:18:15who can see the passes
00:18:16and play them
00:18:17time them right
00:18:18then that's the results you get
00:18:20I tell you when he wasn't calm
00:18:21and that was over
00:18:22who would take the second penalty
00:18:23because
00:18:24Kieran Trippier thought that
00:18:26perhaps it was time
00:18:27to share the love maybe
00:18:28and Walter Marder
00:18:29might fancy a go
00:18:30but obviously
00:18:31Anthony Gordon
00:18:32I'm the penalty taker
00:18:33I'm absolutely not sharing these goals
00:18:35I love it as well
00:18:36I really do
00:18:37I know that the captain
00:18:38goes up and has the word
00:18:39Thomas
00:18:40but I want my goalscorer
00:18:41saying no go away
00:18:42I'm staying on pens
00:18:43yeah I partly agree with you
00:18:44but obviously
00:18:45me being German
00:18:45I would have loved to see
00:18:46Nico Wattemar
00:18:47stepping up
00:18:47he's done it before
00:18:48in the Premier League
00:18:49for Newcastle
00:18:50and he scored a wonderful penalty
00:18:51but I get it
00:18:52he's been in such fine form
00:18:53and he scores another goal
00:18:54so you can't really debate that
00:18:56he says I'm sorry mate
00:18:56well exactly
00:18:57Kieran Trippier
00:18:58doesn't even look
00:18:58and I think
00:18:59if you have that sort of problem
00:19:00after a Champions League night
00:19:02you're in a good position
00:19:03and Eddie Howe's done the right thing
00:19:04he didn't even start a big debate
00:19:06I think they've all sorted it out
00:19:08and I suppose
00:19:09it will give
00:19:10Eddie Howe
00:19:10the opportunity
00:19:11next Tuesday
00:19:12with this scoreline
00:19:13to make some changes
00:19:14bearing in mind
00:19:15that Newcastle
00:19:16have got a very intense
00:19:17run of fixtures
00:19:18coming up
00:19:20let's have a little look
00:19:20at what they've got
00:19:21because
00:19:22they play City a lot
00:19:23don't they
00:19:24this season
00:19:24they could end up
00:19:25playing Chelsea a lot
00:19:26as well
00:19:26because
00:19:26the next two Champions League games
00:19:29that they
00:19:30if they make it through
00:19:31will be against
00:19:32either Chelsea or Barcelona
00:19:32they have Chelsea in the league
00:19:33as well
00:19:34so they could have a run
00:19:34of three Chelsea matches there
00:19:36there's two City games
00:19:37within
00:19:38that run of matches
00:19:39as well
00:19:40but a lot of home games
00:19:41for them
00:19:41a chance to put together
00:19:42a good run of form
00:19:44at home
00:19:44which they could do with
00:19:46in the Premier League
00:19:46the first step was
00:19:47their away form
00:19:48so they've won
00:19:49the last three away games
00:19:50which is massive for them
00:19:51that's where they were
00:19:52struggling this season
00:19:53and I think
00:19:54when you look at the list
00:19:54Eddie Howe will not look
00:19:55at the entire list
00:19:56it's about the next game
00:19:57and I know they're big teams
00:19:58but Manchester City next
00:20:00how do we prepare
00:20:01for this game
00:20:01keep our run going
00:20:02keep the players happy
00:20:03now he said
00:20:04he found a good position
00:20:05for Nick Woltemar
00:20:06they've had a lot of money
00:20:07for him
00:20:07now they know the best position
00:20:08so they're making progress
00:20:09the fans will be looking
00:20:11at the pictures
00:20:11and they will be
00:20:12very excited about them
00:20:14fingers crossed
00:20:14for next Tuesday
00:20:15ok we head to the Arctic Circle
00:20:18next into Milan
00:20:19the visitors to surprise package
00:20:21Bodo Glimt
00:20:21the Norwegian side
00:20:22were winless
00:20:23in their first ever
00:20:24Champions League campaign
00:20:25after six games
00:20:26of the league stage
00:20:27needing six points
00:20:28and basically a miracle
00:20:29to qualify
00:20:30from their last two games
00:20:31with two of Europe's elite
00:20:33still to play
00:20:34then this happened
00:20:37this is Bodo Glimt's
00:20:39first ever season
00:20:40in the Champions League
00:20:41proper
00:20:43first ever win
00:20:44has proved elusive
00:20:47it's a decent cross
00:20:48the header is in
00:20:49in the back post
00:20:50and Bodo Glimt
00:20:51could be in again
00:20:52Blomberg
00:20:53picking out Hurg
00:20:53for number two
00:20:55Hauger
00:20:56wants it himself
00:20:57what a strike
00:21:00but it's so so congested
00:21:02Scherke has a go
00:21:03and Scherke scores
00:21:05it's 3-1
00:21:06there goes the final whistle
00:21:08victory for Bodo Glimt
00:21:09painful defeat
00:21:11for Manchester City
00:21:12Bodo Glimt
00:21:13would dearly love
00:21:14to make those playoffs
00:21:15and last week's
00:21:16historic win over
00:21:16Manchester City
00:21:17has at least
00:21:18given them a shot tonight
00:21:19Hansko's ball in
00:21:21towards Serlet
00:21:22rising
00:21:22and this time scoring
00:21:25Bjorkan in support
00:21:26provides the cross
00:21:27and the finish is there
00:21:28Bodo Glimt
00:21:29are level
00:21:31oh incredible
00:21:32they've turned it around
00:21:34and that is full time
00:21:36Simeone's side
00:21:37are beaten at home
00:21:39by Bodo Glimt
00:21:44the winners of this one
00:21:45over two legs
00:21:46face Manchester City
00:21:47or Sporting
00:21:48in the last 16
00:21:49commentary comes from
00:21:50Steve Wilson
00:21:51their domestic season
00:21:53finished in November
00:21:55Bodo Glimt

00:24:36Smash in Inter's equalizer.
00:24:38And they needed that.
00:24:46First attack of the second half is a,
00:24:48or looked like it might be a birdie-climbed attack,
00:24:50but actually cut out by Carlos Augusto.
00:24:52And here's Lautaro Martinez for Inter.
00:24:55Henrik Mkhitaryan ahead of him.
00:24:57His runners made some space.
00:24:59Nicolo Barella.
00:25:00Lovely flick.
00:25:01Esposito got that wrong.
00:25:03Lautaro Martinez.
00:25:04And it's bounced off the post.
00:25:06And Inter the width of the woodwork away from taking the lead.
00:25:13First minute of the second half.
00:25:20Given away rather carelessly that by Carlos Augusto.
00:25:24Kasper Hügg, Jens Pettahauka.
00:25:282-1.
00:25:31And the man who had a brief spell with AC Milan
00:25:36scores against Inter Milan.
00:25:39Birdie-climbed two.
00:25:41Inter one.
00:25:43Jens Pettahauka's fifth in the Champions League campaign.
00:25:46And they are back in front.
00:25:51And they are back in front.
00:25:59Jens Pettahauka score it of that second goal.
00:26:03That's a nice ball into Brunstadt.
00:26:05Score of the first.
00:26:06And Hügg!
00:26:09Incredible!
00:26:12Birdie-climbed three into one.
00:26:17Two goals in three minutes.
00:26:21And Birdie-climbed are tearing up the European established order here.
00:26:27Not just once but three times.
00:26:31With victories over Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
00:26:35And potentially against Inter Milan.
00:26:43Jens Pettahauka will take it up.
00:26:45And Jens Pettahauka touches it to Hakon Evjen.
00:26:48And Jens Pettahauka then plays a lovely ball out to the left-hand side.
00:26:52And it's a good save by Jens Sommer to deny Helmetson.
00:26:55The substitute has only been on the pitch for a minute.
00:27:00If they can win at the Metropolitano they can think.
00:27:04Then they can win at the San Siro.
00:27:06Truth is they don't need to win at the San Siro.
00:27:09They can lose and still progress as it stands.
00:27:14And the Norwegians have done it again.
00:27:17It is an extraordinary night for Birdie-climbed.
00:27:21Jens Pettahauka on the score sheet again.
00:27:23Kasper Hoog.
00:27:25Those two each scored in three second half minutes.
00:27:29And Inter have a huge job to do at the San Siro next week.
00:27:34Because this fairy tale continues as it finishes in the first leg.
00:27:39Birdie-climbed three.
00:27:41Inter Milan one.
00:27:44It was a very important start for us.
00:27:47But it's not finished.
00:27:50This will be decided next week.
00:27:52So we have to learn from this game.
00:27:54It was a very tough game.
00:27:55Inter is a very, very strong team with a lot of quality.
00:27:59So yeah, we have to now analyze well and prepare for San Siro.
00:28:05Everything is still open.
00:28:06It's only a two goals difference.
00:28:09We try to be our best, to do our best, to score, to do whatever we need to do in
00:28:15order for us to qualify.
00:28:16We are effective.
00:28:17We score three wonderful goals.
00:28:19But in total, I think we are a little bit lucky.
00:28:23So we know this is just first half.
00:28:25So we, of course, we're looking forward to the next game.
00:28:29But it will be a tough one.
00:28:31It will be tough.
00:28:32And it's not over yet.
00:28:33But they've given themselves a really good chance, Thomas.
00:28:36And in particular, we're going to have a closer look at the Hager and Höger show.
00:28:40It was indeed.
00:28:41I love this football club.
00:28:42I've been following their progress.
00:28:43And of course, these two players, they stood out tonight.
00:28:45But it's an all-around team performance.
00:28:47You can see the confidence they play with, the great structure that they have.
00:28:51But both of them were involved in the three goals.
00:28:53And you see that flick on in the box.
00:28:55Great finish by Brunstadt.
00:28:57And it just kept going.
00:28:58In the first half, I had the impression that Inter gave them a good game.
00:29:01It was all square.
00:29:02Inter, they were quite cautious, defended well.
00:29:04But in the second half, they just couldn't stop them anymore.
00:29:07And Borda just kept on pressing in possession.
00:29:10You see, quickly go to the front.
00:29:11Höger there has an eye for his teammate, Hager.
00:29:14Again, it's a great finish.
00:29:15We were discussing whether the keeper could have saved it.
00:29:18But let's just take it.
00:29:19It was a great strike.
00:29:20And then there again, Höger starts to play.
00:29:22And in the end, Höger gets the ball.
00:29:25Nice little team play.
00:29:26And it's 3-1.
00:29:27And there was no coming back for Inter.
00:29:28And I said, this team just, it shows what you can achieve with a clear strategy
00:29:33and with a very good culture.
00:29:34Because I think Kertel Knudsen must have had offers from every single club in top five divisions.
00:29:39He decides to stay there because there is something special happening in Borda
00:29:42and has been happening for many years.
00:29:44And Kasper Höger there, his goal involvements in the last six games, really impressive.
00:29:50He's obviously a player who's kind of come to life in the latter stages of this competition.
00:29:55And it's worth mentioning as well that, of course, they're not playing domestic football at the moment and won't until
00:29:59the 15th of March.
00:30:01Which is crazy when you see they're in pre-season and then they're in the biggest stage.
00:30:05The last three games, they beat Atletico Madrid, now Inter Milan and Manchester City.
00:30:09It's really hard for people to understand how much that means in a place in Norway where it's not easy
00:30:15to attract top talent.
00:30:16And yet they always, they come up with these big clubs and they defeat them.
00:30:19About 200 miles inside the Arctic Circle, days full of sunlight in the summer, dark days in the winter.
00:30:26You know, it's, it's, it's a tough life there.
00:30:2857,000 inhabitants in the place.
00:30:31And quite clearly, they created something special, as we're hearing, as Thomas said.
00:30:37This is a team that in 2017 was in the second division when the manager, Kerstel Nusson, became not, not,
00:30:44not just a system, but moved as a first team manager.
00:30:47Influenced by Bielsa, put together a formation 4-3-3 and they started looking for players that fitted there.
00:30:53But of course, they couldn't convince anybody.
00:30:54What did you just say? 200 miles into the Arctic Circle.
00:30:57So it was like, okay, we cannot give you money, but we can give you a little bit of a
00:31:02story, training that will improve you.
00:31:04And they've convinced Danish internationals, like Hoek, for instance, and they've got players through the ranks as well with a
00:31:11budget of 57 million pounds.
00:31:13Now, Kasper Hoek, for instance, their number nine, they got money.
00:31:18They are okay.
00:31:19They could have sold him.
00:31:20Norwich and Celtic came for him in January.
00:31:24They offered 6 million.
00:31:25They said, no, we won 15.
00:31:26But after what he's just done, what is it?
00:31:28Four goals, two assists.
00:31:30I think they'll be asking for half of the budget of the season for them and then continue the progression.
00:31:36That's why Nusson doesn't want to go anywhere because the team keeps improving.
00:31:41I'm crossing my fingers.
00:31:42I might get a trip there this season.
00:31:44I'm hoping.
00:31:45Okay.
00:31:46Let's dip into some of last night's action now, starting in Lisbon.
00:31:49Jose Mourinho's Benfica hosted 15-time winners, Real Madrid.
00:31:53The two sides, of course, were back at the Estadio de Luz, 20 days on from their league stage epic
00:31:59finale.
00:32:01Benfica are hoping that they can spring a surprise tonight.
00:32:05And mathematically, all goes well elsewhere.
00:32:08The deadly Kylian Mbappe.
00:32:13Sheldon up.
00:32:14They're back in it.
00:32:15Benfica have the lead.
00:32:19Sheldon up second.
00:32:22Gouleth cut you back.
00:32:23Mbappe.
00:32:24Jose Mourinho tells him to just go for it.
00:32:27Might as well send his goalkeeper up there.
00:32:28Oh, my goodness gracious me!
00:32:31This is unbelievable!
00:32:35Your commentary team is Sue Smith with Guy Novery.
00:32:40Hope you're settled and ready for the drama to commence once more.
00:32:44Between the two who gave us more of it than any others at the culmination of the league phase of
00:32:51this competition three weeks ago.
00:32:52And the two teams who were the pioneers in the competition as the European Cup when it all began 70
00:33:00years ago on show here.
00:33:02They won the first seven between them.
00:33:05Madrid the first five.
00:33:06Benfica the next two.
00:33:08Benfica the next two.
00:33:12Rudiger.
00:33:15Alexander-Arnold.
00:33:17Really clever ball.
00:33:18It's a beauty.
00:33:19Pulled back.
00:33:20It's arrived at Vinicius Junior's feet and he's put it just wide.
00:33:23What a ball through that was and Vinicius Junior will be disappointed.
00:33:27He couldn't hit the target there.
00:33:31Prestiani.
00:33:33Housen heads away as far as Frederik Aushnerts.
00:33:36Oh, he got all of that.
00:33:38Really smart start from Courtois.
00:33:41That's brilliant from Courtois.
00:33:42Takes a slight deflection but he gets down so well.
00:33:48Barrero in hot pursuit.
00:33:50Mbappe with the layoff for Carreras.
00:33:52Vinicius Junior.
00:33:53Mbappe.
00:33:55Misses the target.
00:33:56What a beautiful move.
00:33:58The most majestic move we've seen in the match so far.
00:34:01It's a lovely flick from Vinicius Junior.
00:34:04It's just the finish that's missing.
00:34:11Arda Gulat.
00:34:13Space made.
00:34:14Oh, it's another deflection behind for a corner.
00:34:18That's another really good save from Trubin.
00:34:28Yes, Mbappe.
00:34:32Filing Vinicius Junior.
00:34:34Oh, that is magnificent.
00:34:36Top corner, top draw, top class from Vinicius Junior.
00:34:41He has lit up the Estadio de Luz.
00:34:47What a strike this is.
00:34:49He takes it early.
00:34:50So once he cuts in onto that right foot, just takes it so early into that far corner.
00:34:55The goalkeeper Trubin has absolutely no chance.
00:35:01You can hear the reception he's getting from the crowd.
00:35:04He has been booked.
00:35:06And a little bit from Prestiani.
00:35:08And Vinicius Junior saying, what have I done?
00:35:14Prestiani still has a lot to say.
00:35:20Just the yellow car for Vinicius Junior, who's still not happy.
00:35:25And Prestiani is still going on.
00:35:28And the referee, I think, is calling a timeout here.
00:35:33We just have to hope here that what's not happened is any form of racial abuse.
00:35:39Because that is what this is pointing towards just at the moment.
00:35:45Vinicius Junior has left the pitch.
00:35:48With something said to him by Prestiani, we just don't know right now.
00:35:54Well, Vinicius Junior is in no mood to play on.
00:35:57Something has happened to push him over the edge.
00:36:02But look at that.
00:36:03The game's about to start again.
00:36:05It had all got back to some sort of level of equilibrium.
00:36:08And something clearly, in Vinicius Junior's mind, was said to him by Gianluca Prestiani.
00:36:17Vinicius Junior got the yellow card for the nature of his celebration.
00:36:21He is there explaining to Jose Mourinho exactly what it is he thinks has occurred.
00:36:33Well, the game is going to restart.
00:36:36Well, that's been ten minutes since Vinicius Junior scored that wonderful goal.
00:36:41This is where the players have to remain focused, don't they?
00:36:45And then deal with whatever's happened after the game.
00:37:00It's going to be a free kick to Benfica just outside the box.
00:37:04Now Jose Mourinho's getting more and more animated.
00:37:07He thinks that should be more than just the free kick.
00:37:10And he's already been booked, hasn't he?
00:37:11That's what he thinks.
00:37:13I don't know, does he get to the ball first?
00:37:15Then he kicks his leg.
00:37:16It's a yellow card for Jose Mourinho.
00:37:18Oh, is he the second one?
00:37:20Yeah, it's been quickly followed by another.
00:37:22Jose Mourinho sees red.
00:37:25Incredible.
00:37:30Here's Mbappe taking on Araujo and winning the corner.
00:37:35That was all he'd set out to do.
00:37:39And more happening down in the corner as Vinicius Junior goes across to take it.
00:37:43There's more things coming down.
00:37:46Benfica will face serious ramifications for this.
00:37:51It's disgusting, isn't it?
00:37:53You don't want to see that.
00:37:55It's over now.
00:37:57A dramatic night.
00:37:58Not in the ways we hoped for.
00:38:01It's finished Benfica nil.
00:38:02Real Madrid one.
00:38:04What's happened tonight is a disgrace to football.
00:38:08It's overshadowed the performance.
00:38:10Especially after such an amazing goal, Vinny.
00:38:14He's been subjected to this a few times throughout his career.
00:38:16And if it's happened tonight and ruin a night for us as a team is a disgrace.
00:38:22Like I said, it's a disgrace to football.
00:38:24There's no place in it in football or society.
00:38:27So, it's disgusting.
00:38:30When you score a goal like that, you celebrate in a respectful way.
00:38:35He incited, is that what you feel?
00:38:37He incited the crowd?
00:38:39He incited your players?
00:38:40Yeah.
00:38:41Yeah, I believe so.
00:38:42Has Prestiani said anything to you about what he's alleged to have said?
00:38:46They told me different things.
00:38:47He would deny it?
00:38:48Yeah.
00:38:49But I don't believe in one or another.
00:38:51I want to be independent.
00:38:52If it has happened, it's very sad.
00:38:54And obviously, Vinicius has been in this position before.
00:38:57And obviously, he feels so strongly about this.
00:39:00That he must speak out.
00:39:01But there is something wrong because it happens in every stadium.
00:39:04How do you mean?
00:39:06Stadium where Vinicius plays, something happens.
00:39:09Always.
00:39:11Are you saying that it might not be true?
00:39:16I'm saying that it was a good 50 minutes of football.
00:39:20I believe millions of people watching around the world.
00:39:26A crazy goal.
00:39:27Absolutely crazy goal.
00:39:29And then game over.
00:39:32Gabriel Clarke asking the questions there.
00:39:34And of course, over the last 24 hours, the key figures involved in this have issued statements,
00:39:39starting with Vinicius Jr. himself.
00:39:41Racists are above all cowards, he says.
00:39:44They need to put their shirts in their mouths to show how weak they are.
00:39:47Nothing that happened today is new in my life or in my team's life.
00:39:51And then Kylian Mbappe, this was after the match, said,
00:39:55I heard it.
00:39:55There are Benfica players that also heard it.
00:39:58This player, Prestiani, he means, doesn't deserve to play in this competition.
00:40:02We have to give the best example to youngsters.
00:40:05If we let this go, then the values of football serve for nothing.
00:40:08Everything we believe in is for nothing.
00:40:10We have to do something.
00:40:12And Prestiani himself, of course, denying the claim, says,
00:40:17I want to clarify that at no time did I direct racist insults to Vinny Jr.,
00:40:21who regrettably misunderstood what he thought he heard.
00:40:25I was never racist with anyone and I regret the threats I received from Real Madrid players.
00:40:30And Benfica then issued a statement.
00:40:32Benfica reiterates that it fully supports and believes in the version presented by the player Gianluca Prestiani,
00:40:38whose conduct while serving the club has always been guided by respect for opponents, institutions
00:40:43and the principles that define Benfica's identity.
00:40:47The club regrets the defamation campaign to which the player has been subjected.
00:40:51And finally, UEFA, their statement says,
00:40:55The official reports from the match played last night are currently being reviewed.
00:40:59Where matters are reported, proceedings are opened,
00:41:02and should they lead to disciplinary sanctions being imposed,
00:41:05they are announced on the UEFA disciplinary website.
00:41:09Well, we can now bring in Piara Power, executive director of the FAIR Network.
00:41:15Thank you for joining us.
00:41:17What did you make of the situation, the way it played out,
00:41:20and was enough done to support Vinicius?
00:41:24Hi, Gabby. Hi, everybody.
00:41:26I think what we saw last night really was something that Vinicius is very familiar with now.
00:41:32He's very familiar with seeing this in the Spanish League in particular.
00:41:36This is the 26th time that Vinicius has been racially abused in a high-profile incidence.
00:41:43There will be hundreds of other times where he's been abused.
00:41:46So in terms of the way it was treated, sadly, there is a feeling here now that Vinicius is making
00:41:54these things up,
00:41:55that somehow he is feigning his hurt,
00:41:58that he is somebody who deserves this sort of abuse because of the way that he plays.
00:42:04And all of that, I don't think, is acceptable in Europe in 2026.
00:42:09There's been enough work done to educate people.
00:42:13There's been enough work done to understand the impact of this sort of racism.
00:42:18I'm not sure that I agree with Mourinho, Jose Mourinho-Tool,
00:42:22who is an experienced coach around Europe.
00:42:24And the emphasis that he placed on defending his club and defending his player is one that we've seen before.
00:42:31But it's not correct. It's not right.
00:42:33It's not the way that we would want to see somebody of his standing in the game deal with this.
00:42:38Give us an idea then of the process.
00:42:40I read the UEFA statement there.
00:42:42But what happens next?
00:42:43And can we expect anything to be concluded by the time these sides meet again in less than a week?
00:42:50I think it would be a big ask for UEFA to conclude this within a week's time.
00:42:55That's a very quick process.
00:42:57And look, I think we saw what's going on.
00:43:00And many of us will have our sympathy and empathy with Vinicius.
00:43:04But there has to be a legal process.
00:43:06And that legal process revolves around evidence.
00:43:09And in a case like this, evidence is difficult.
00:43:12The player had his shirt over his mouth.
00:43:15So nobody can really see what was being said.
00:43:20So this is now then down to Vinicius, his teammates, Kylian Mbappe and others,
00:43:25who heard what was said.
00:43:27And their witness statements that should then now be given to UEFA.
00:43:32Normally, one would say, what is the objective evidence?
00:43:35But there is no objective evidence in this case.
00:43:37And I think the problem will be that we may well get diverted into what he said and he said.
00:43:44And it becomes divided by the color of the shirt that they're wearing.
00:43:48And that's not really what this should be about.
00:43:50So I'm hoping that Real Madrid understand that they also have a responsibility,
00:43:55which is to provide the witness statements of people who heard what was being said
00:43:59to aid the UEFA process.
00:44:01There has been now a precedent in 2021 where a Rangers-Slavia-Prague match
00:44:07resulted in a Rangers player being racially abused in his ear.
00:44:13Again, it's difficult to see the objective evidence around that.
00:44:17Difficult to find the objective evidence.
00:44:19But then it's then down to the witness statements,
00:44:23the impact statement that the player makes to UEFA.
00:44:25So Real Madrid really needs to take this on
00:44:28and understand the work that they need to do in order to get a legal process on their side.
00:44:34Otherwise, I fear that this will be another incident that is unresolved.
00:44:39Piara, thank you so much for joining us.
00:44:41And, you know, we will, of course, all hope that this comes to a conclusion
00:44:45as quickly as possible for everybody involved.
00:44:47But you do feel with these things that they take so long, don't they?
00:44:52We'll get into that in just a moment.
00:44:53But first of all, you were there last night.
00:44:54I was there last night.
00:44:56We were broadcasting next to each other.
00:44:57And you were very close to Vinicius Jr.
00:45:01when this all erupted and could see the interactions he was having with his players,
00:45:06his fellow Real Madrid players.
00:45:07Let's take it from the moment the referee crosses his arms
00:45:09and tells the whole world and the stadium that there's been a racist incident
00:45:14and there's a pause.
00:45:16At that moment, Vinicius goes to the bench on his own.
00:45:21And then a bunch of people starts coming to him, different people.
00:45:24He speaks to Mbappé.
00:45:25And according to Mbappé, they both agreed that they don't want to play anymore.
00:45:29Then Arbeloa comes in as well, the manager of Real Madrid.
00:45:32And then he says, we'll do whatever you want.
00:45:35Whatever you want, we'll do.
00:45:37Then he gets Mourinho.
00:45:40And Vinicius is explaining to Mourinho, as we saw earlier,
00:45:42that there was a racist incident.
00:45:44And Mourinho, according to Mourinho, told Vinicius a couple of things.
00:45:48One, that the biggest icon of Benfica is a black player, Eusebio,
00:45:52and that Benfica is not a racist club.
00:45:55And he also told him, why did you celebrate like this?
00:45:58You scored a super goal.
00:46:00Why didn't you go and hug your teammates?
00:46:02And that would have been it.
00:46:04Making straight away the link,
00:46:06and he did that in three interviews for television
00:46:09and also in the press conference,
00:46:10making the link between the reaction or the celebrations of Vinicius
00:46:14and the racist insult.
00:46:17You've got Chouameni, who heard from the Benfica players,
00:46:20that Prestiani, what he said wasn't racist,
00:46:24that he was homophobic, actually.
00:46:27And generally, it was all left to Vinicius
00:46:31to decide what happened next, to the victim.
00:46:35Alveroa goes back to him again and says,
00:46:37do you want to play?
00:46:38Yeah, let's play.
00:46:38I spoke to the players afterwards,
00:46:40and the players of Real Madrid,
00:46:42they didn't have the head in the game at all.
00:46:45Then at the end of the game,
00:46:46they all go through the tunnel,
00:46:48and there was verbal aggression.
00:46:51There was first Mbappé shouting things I couldn't understand.
00:46:56Vinny shouting,
00:46:57a la Madrid, a la Madrid.
00:46:58I'm sure he meant something else,
00:46:59meant to say something else,
00:47:00that that's what came out of him.
00:47:02And then there was a bit of a blockage
00:47:04on the way to the changing room of Real Madrid by security.
00:47:07So, like, 40, 50 people got together,
00:47:10including Rui Costa, the chairman of Enfica.
00:47:12And at that point,
00:47:13he was sometimes separating people,
00:47:15other times arguing with people,
00:47:17and then eventually things come down,
00:47:20and then the statements.
00:47:22So, that's the story of a game that,
00:47:24of course, we should be talking about the goal.
00:47:26But optimistic as I am,
00:47:28I just feel that because we all realise what has happened,
00:47:31because we all realise the wrong reaction
00:47:33of some of the people like Jose Mourinho,
00:47:35perhaps we will know now what's wrong and right.
00:47:38Get close to that.
00:47:39It's a, you know,
00:47:40fight against discrimination is forever going,
00:47:43and it's a daily thing.
00:47:45But did we learn something yesterday?
00:47:47We may have done.
00:47:48Well, we'll find out, won't we,
00:47:50if yesterday was a turning point in any way.
00:47:53You said something there, Guillem,
00:47:54which I think I'd like to pick up with you, Thomas,
00:47:56about, you know, the victim being the person
00:47:58that everything is kind of laid on.
00:47:59It was up to him to decide whether, you know,
00:48:01we play this game at all and it continues.
00:48:04Do we put too much onus, do you think, on the player?
00:48:07And I say this as somebody who was working
00:48:09with Clarence Seedorf last night
00:48:10and who managed to get onto the Real Madrid bus
00:48:12because he wanted to speak to Vinny.
00:48:13And he said to Vinny,
00:48:15this is not all down to you
00:48:17and you have to know that we are with you
00:48:18and that, you know,
00:48:20nobody wants this to happen in football.
00:48:21A very tiny minority are spoiling this.
00:48:23The beautiful game for so many others.
00:48:25They were his words to Vinny last night.
00:48:27Yeah, I think the most important thing in this case
00:48:29is Vinny Jr., his well-being.
00:48:31And everybody needs to make sure
00:48:33that he's in a good state of mind,
00:48:35as good as he can possibly be right now.
00:48:37You have to admire him
00:48:38because he keeps fighting this fight,
00:48:40which is so important.
00:48:41And of course, I think we all agree
00:48:42when I talk about football,
00:48:43but these things matter.
00:48:44They're so important
00:48:45because this is not just football,
00:48:47it's bigger.
00:48:48And Vinny keeps doing this.
00:48:49He gets exposed
00:48:50and he stands up to these people,
00:48:52people who want to bully him,
00:48:54discriminate him.
00:48:55And that's what I admire about him.
00:48:56But he needs support.
00:48:57And I think last night
00:48:58and even up until now,
00:49:00he can understand
00:49:01a lot of people do support him,
00:49:02but we don't live in a perfect world.
00:49:04Unfortunately, there is always people
00:49:06that got something to cover up.
00:49:08So Prestiani,
00:49:09he used his shirt.
00:49:10So he's had 24 hours now
00:49:12to say what he did say
00:49:13because he did say something
00:49:14that he didn't say anything racist.
00:49:16But what did you say?
00:49:17Why has he not told us what he said?
00:49:18So obviously,
00:49:19he's got something to hide.
00:49:20And that is so disappointing.
00:49:22I would hope
00:49:22a club like Real Madrid,
00:49:24a federation like UEFA,
00:49:25they're so big and powerful.
00:49:27Obviously,
00:49:28the deterrent
00:49:28hasn't been sufficient enough
00:49:29when it comes to discrimination.
00:49:31It was the first time
00:49:32in a match of this profile,
00:49:34there was an incident
00:49:35in the Club World Cup
00:49:35where we saw the referees
00:49:36use the symbol,
00:49:38which has been about two years now.
00:49:40This has been active,
00:49:41this protocol.
00:49:42And that's where the referee
00:49:43could stop the game
00:49:44because of a racist incident.
00:49:45And this can be instigated
00:49:46by a player,
00:49:47by a manager,
00:49:48by a fan.
00:49:49It could be,
00:49:50anybody can report this.
00:49:51So there is progress
00:49:53in as much as he knew Vinny.
00:49:55He ran to the referee
00:49:56knowing that the referee
00:49:57could stop the game
00:49:58using that symbol,
00:50:00which I think is great
00:50:02that Vinny realises
00:50:03he has that power.
00:50:04Yes.
00:50:05And we want to see progress.
00:50:07We want to see
00:50:09the game moving forward
00:50:10and the world moving forward
00:50:12in that way.
00:50:12But I still struggle
00:50:14to get my head around
00:50:15what anyone thinks
00:50:16that he actually did wrong.
00:50:17Because people,
00:50:18you know,
00:50:19Jose saying that,
00:50:20you know,
00:50:20he's incited the crowd.
00:50:21No, he didn't.
00:50:22I mean,
00:50:22he scored an amazing goal
00:50:23which has been lost.
00:50:24We've sort of not really
00:50:25discussing the goal.
00:50:26But in the aftermath of that,
00:50:29he ran to the corner flag.
00:50:30That's not a problem.
00:50:31He stayed on the pitch.
00:50:32He didn't leave
00:50:33the playing surface
00:50:33at any time.
00:50:34He just did a little dance.
00:50:36I mean,
00:50:36if I scored a goal like that,
00:50:37I wouldn't mind
00:50:38trying to do a bit of a dance.
00:50:40But even if he had
00:50:41done something
00:50:42to deserve the yellow card,
00:50:43that doesn't deserve
00:50:44a racist abuse
00:50:45or having things thrown at you.
00:50:47And he still didn't overreact.
00:50:48He just did a fist pump
00:50:49and then made his way
00:50:50back to the halfway line
00:50:52where he was then.
00:50:53The Benfica players
00:50:54came to sort of
00:50:55have a go
00:50:55and he didn't do
00:50:57anything wrong.
00:50:57And as you say,
00:50:58even if he did do
00:50:59something wrong,
00:51:00that does not justify
00:51:01the reaction that came.
00:51:02And it was,
00:51:03as many players
00:51:04have pointed out,
00:51:05it really was
00:51:05a disgraceful night.
00:51:07And as you say,
00:51:09unfortunately,
00:51:09we're not talking about
00:51:10an amazing goal
00:51:11that he scored
00:51:12and of course
00:51:13has put them ahead
00:51:14in that tie,
00:51:14which will be
00:51:15very interesting
00:51:16to see what happens
00:51:17next week.
00:51:18OK.
00:51:19Holders Paris Saint-Germain
00:51:21had to win
00:51:22the Champions League
00:51:22last season
00:51:23having come through
00:51:24this play-off stage
00:51:25after an underwhelming
00:51:27finish to the league phase.
00:51:28They're going to have
00:51:28to do it the hard way again.
00:51:30And like last season,
00:51:31they faced
00:51:31Ligue 1 opposition
00:51:33in the play-off round,
00:51:34making the trip to Monaco
00:51:35for the first leg.
00:51:36Mark Scott,
00:51:37watch this one.
00:51:40For the second season running,
00:51:43PSG have an all-French tie
00:51:45in the play-off round.
00:51:47They made light work
00:51:48of last year's one,
00:51:50brushing Brest aside
00:51:5110-0 on aggregate.
00:51:53But Monaco have already
00:51:55beaten the holders
00:51:55this season,
00:51:56winning 1-0 here
00:51:58in the league
00:51:59in November.
00:52:03Monaco's 1-0 win
00:52:04against Paris Saint-Germain
00:52:06here in November.
00:52:07ended a run of
00:52:08three straight defeats
00:52:10for them
00:52:10against PSG,
00:52:12which has seen them
00:52:13slip off the
00:52:15Liga Summit,
00:52:16replaced there
00:52:17by L'Anse.
00:52:21Colovine,
00:52:22they're queuing up
00:52:22in there,
00:52:23big chance!
00:52:24Oh, what a start!
00:52:25Balogun for Monaco!
00:52:29Less than a minute gone!
00:52:32And following Balogun
00:52:34has nodded Monaco
00:52:35in front against the holders.
00:52:39to double Monaco's lead.
00:52:40Sebastian Pocconnolli's side
00:52:42off to a flyer.
00:52:45Golovine, Balogun,
00:52:47and he could be in here.
00:52:49Big chance!
00:52:50It's two!
00:52:51And it's Balogun again!
00:52:54The holders in big trouble now!
00:52:58Following Balogun
00:53:00with a bullet-like strike
00:53:03to double Monaco's lead.
00:53:10Now, here's a chance for Kvarrat-Skelia.
00:53:13All risky!
00:53:15Penalty!
00:53:16Immediate way back into the game
00:53:17for PSG
00:53:18and a booking for Voutfast as well.
00:53:23Bettina scored against Newcastle
00:53:25in Paris' last Champions League game,
00:53:27but it's saved!
00:53:29Second game running,
00:53:30the PSG
00:53:31have had a penalty
00:53:33kept to pay
00:53:34by the keeper.
00:53:37An interesting change here.
00:53:39Midway through the first half,
00:53:42Ousmane Dembele
00:53:42is taken off
00:53:43and Desiree Douay
00:53:45comes on.
00:53:50Plenty to ponder
00:53:51for Luis Enrique.
00:53:53This side have been sluggished
00:53:55and they've been punished
00:53:56and they are 2-0 down.
00:54:02A kliush,
00:54:03bit of a heavy touch
00:54:03which allowed Nuno Mendes
00:54:05to step in.
00:54:06Nuno Mendes
00:54:07nearly got it back again.
00:54:11He's still
00:54:12until Manzano
00:54:12not buying that
00:54:14appeal for a free kick.
00:54:16Bacala.
00:54:18Cute pass.
00:54:19Douay!
00:54:20Oh yes!
00:54:22Talk about an impact sub!
00:54:25Desiree Douay
00:54:27drills in
00:54:28to bring Paris Saint-Germain
00:54:30back to within a goal.
00:54:39Michel Neves
00:54:40has room now for Douay.
00:54:42one, two, three, four, five, five, five, six.
00:54:45Desiree Douay
00:54:46has gone for another one
00:54:47and that's a decent stop.
00:54:49Oh, but the rebound's in!
00:54:51Ashraf Hakimi's levelled
00:54:53for PSG
00:54:54and Luis Enrique's side
00:54:56back on terms
00:54:58after two
00:54:59very nicely taken goals.
00:55:08golovin jumping in that's a foul for the challenge by golovin and that's a yellow
00:55:13card for him as well well they are just checking whether this might need to be upgraded
00:55:20and here it comes it's a red and the drama just keeps on coming in this one alexander golovin is
00:55:31off now to monaco approach the rest of the game
00:55:39zaya emery quickly on to kemarin skellia hakimi joining the attack zaya emery they're queuing up
00:55:47in there and it's in from douay and the holders have turned it around to lead they've been pushing
00:55:53they've been probing and finally the 10 man's resistance is broken and they have shown the
00:56:01class of champions to lead the game now and leave themselves in a very strong position
00:56:10yeah that was a comeback and a half wasn't it from paris san germain particularly a douay
00:56:15comeback super sub thomas was indeed and the thing is that he was man of match in the champions league
00:56:20this season hasn't been going so well for him but when he came on for dembele he definitely
00:56:25changed the game because he was involved in all three goals his all-round performance was just so
00:56:30brilliant and that's what i'm thinking because people haven't really talked about phe so much
00:56:34this season in the champions league but it was similar last season they this time of the year
00:56:38they they switched gears and then they ended up winning this this competition but again douay
00:56:43yesterday he has been criticized in recent weeks um uh but to come on like this and as i said
00:56:48from
00:56:482-0 down to to win the game and being so influential it makes me think that not only
00:56:53do it but this entire team is one to to look out for and uh we're all familiar with these
00:56:58players
00:56:58kravatskelia here again um and then as i said this was the 3-2 and uh monaco would have thought
00:57:04you
00:57:04know wasting this tunnel lead uh really makes the second leg injuries haven't they uh through the
00:57:10last few months kravatskelia is another of those players who's been in and out but there you go
00:57:13definitely in definitely on yesterday his celebration has a bit of a backstory and thomas alluded to a
00:57:20little bit there guillem yes remember he's 20 so he thinks he knows everything and then a recent game
00:57:26against uh olympique de marseille uh his captain then belay told him all three or four times
00:57:30probably didn't listen because after the defeat against rents uh 3-1 then belay goes to the press
00:57:36conference and actually has a go at him without mentioning him and ends up on the bench in this
00:57:42important game because he are now second in the table they needed to win here and of course when
00:57:47he comes on scores and just trying to say to the world i'm not listening to you i'm doing what
00:57:52i
00:57:52need to do which is yeah this but probably has to listen to him but hard not to pick him
00:57:57when he's
00:57:57doing stuff like that isn't it um if they are going to go on and replicate what they did last
00:58:01season
00:58:02they are going to have to tighten things up at the back yeah concerning actually i mean luis errique
00:58:07described it as a catastrophic start and and he wasn't wrong i mean there's nothing wrong with
00:58:11they're being really spread out when they're in possession of the ball i mean it's very unusual
00:58:14i mean mendez with that cross field pass give the ball away but in that moment you have to organize
00:58:20you have to get back into shape as quickly as possible and marquinhos jumps out of position
00:58:24they allow golovin into into the space behind and uh patchou makes the decision is he going across
00:58:30he does but he doesn't go soon enough to be able to stop the cross and because of that the
00:58:34knock-on
00:58:34effect is minutes into the one minute into the game outnumbered at the back post and they can see the
00:58:40goal
00:58:40okay maybe that happens sometimes you have mistakes but this was um only 80 after 18 minutes and they
00:58:46start by defending it with only eight men which means then you're out of position trying to cover
00:58:50akimi's too high up the pitch the defenders center half so one in front of the other in that moment
00:58:55and
00:58:55you're always going to find that difficult to be able to defend properly they try and recover they
00:59:00get six players around the ball no one could stop the pass and balogun gets in to make it two
00:59:05nil and
00:59:05they were they were half the cause of their own problems with really poor defending which i'm not
00:59:11used to seeing from them certainly last year in their run to the champions league final and this
00:59:15victory and i just think that that'll be a wake-up call for them to try and move on in
00:59:20the competition
00:59:20okay thank you for the moment uh plenty of goals in monaco then and there were even more in istanbul
00:59:26where galatasaray faced juventus the winner of this one over two legs would play liverpool or tottenham
00:59:32in the round of 16. stephen wyath is your commentator galatasaray faded after a strong
00:59:39league face start winless in their final four juventus won three in a row at one point but too
00:59:45many draws cost them a top eight finish so they play off for the right to face premier league
00:59:51opposition either liverpool or spurs are next
00:59:58indiazzo's throw or awkward one and here's a chance no alain couldn't get his feet sorted out but
01:00:05gabriel serra can
01:00:08well a combination of galatasaray pressure and juventus failure has seen the home side strike first
01:00:21what sort of response do we get from you mate
01:00:24can be ours up
01:00:28the response is immediate
01:00:30kalulu's effort dealt with but toon koopminers there to tap in the rebound
01:00:37urjan shakir's save was in vain because toon koopminers was brilliantly placed
01:00:50now he won the ball koopminers played a little one two koopminers is in
01:00:55and has thumped juventus in front sensational finish
01:01:02from one nil down juventus lead two one courtesy of a pair of toon koopminers goals
01:01:09the first a simple finish the second a truly spectacular one after the pass was exchanged with
01:01:17weston mckenny the italian side have turned it around they lead two one
01:01:24for barish away from cabal still has assistance from jaloy
01:01:30cross charge down by turam locatelli
01:01:34going to get to the ball barish across the face of goal and there's the equalizer
01:01:40galatasaray rewarded for a bright start to the second half
01:01:43noah lang has tapped in to level things up once again
01:01:48di gregorio could only palm the ball into the bath of noah lang
01:01:55and shakir here's yunice backwood
01:02:03barris we're going to get away from cabal
01:02:08and doing so until he was hauled down
01:02:11and it's a yellow card for one cabal
01:02:23gabriel serra fires it in and it's got all the way through
01:02:27with a little bit of assistance soft ahead of davidson sanchez
01:02:31this cup tie pendulum swings again a wonderful set piece
01:02:36and a committed dart towards the ball by davidson sanchez
01:02:42and the former top and defender gets his first goal in the champions league proper
01:02:53forward by virgin shakir
01:02:58oh now then
01:03:00this is further trouble for juventus because the card is out again
01:03:03and it's a second yellow for one cabal
01:03:07once again penalized for a foul on barris el for yilmaz
01:03:10his arm was high and dangling but he was being grappled from behind
01:03:15and things have unravelled and unravelled quickly for juventus in the second half
01:03:24balis with the layoff
01:03:26somehow it's find this mel jacobs
01:03:28he's pulled it back towards balis
01:03:32trying to juggle his way beyond juve defenders
01:03:36shoot out
01:03:38oh deary me
01:03:40catastrophic from juventus
01:03:43punished
01:03:44punished
01:03:45by lang for his second
01:03:47and galatasaray's fall
01:03:50churab initially
01:03:51misjudged
01:03:52and he gave lloyd kelly a whole heap of problems to deal with
01:03:57the support from noah lang
01:03:59just made the ball in the back of the juventus goal
01:04:03somewhat inevitable
01:04:08davidson sanchez
01:04:13sasha boy
01:04:14brought towards osi men
01:04:16sasha boy
01:04:17has a fifth for galatasaray
01:04:20it's a thumping finish
01:04:22and this is a night in the champions league
01:04:25that is as good as they've had it
01:04:27in a long time
01:04:29it is finished to the ali sami yen
01:04:32galatasaray five
01:04:34juventus two
01:04:36well unsurprisingly the reaction to juventus's loss was strong in italy on wednesday
01:04:43tuto sport went with juventus total alarm on their back page
01:04:46while coriore dello sport said juve were sunk by bremer's injury and withdrawal
01:04:53if we saw the sub that went right for psg then juventus two and up at half time the second
01:05:00half would definitely be the sub that went wrong
01:05:01yeah absolutely i mean luciano spalletti thinking he's making the right decision taking cambiasso off to make sure he doesn't
01:05:08get a second yellow card and get sent off brought on cabal who got nutmegged for this for this first
01:05:14goal certainly involved with poor defendant getting caught out and quite quickly kalatasaray were leveled back in the game but
01:05:23it just went from bad to worse he now gets a yellow card quite early after 59 minutes this free
01:05:29kick for this poor tackle now
01:05:31leads to to a goal more poor defendant from juventus in this moment yes they should have defended it better
01:05:37but for that substitute you're trying to get right 67 minutes he's not been on the pitch an awful lot
01:05:44of time he's picked up his second yellow card and get sent off and as you said talk about getting
01:05:50something wrong yes he's frustrated certainly not what he wanted to achieve he just didn't seem like he was ready
01:05:56for action but okay we've got 10 men let's see this game through but no i mean that is
01:06:00a dreadful mistake from tiram just get rid of the ball do not give it to lloyd kelly inside his
01:06:07own penalty area with players breathing down his neck and i mean juventus spalletti half time you're comfortable you're winning
01:06:15you're in a good position and suddenly at the end of the game after a really poor decision to make
01:06:20a substitution it's all gone wrong
01:06:21they do have a very impressive home record galatasaray obviously they've got a lot to do juventus in that second
01:06:26leg but saying they go through with that three goal lead they could face
01:06:30at liverpool or spurs so let's have a look from their perspective at the home record that galatasaray
01:06:36um have had of late and it shows that you know it's a bit of a fortress for them
01:06:42liverpool lost there of course um early in the champions league their opening game in fact so
01:06:46it's not somewhere that you go lightly no it can be quite intimidating i've been in eastern world twice
01:06:51one at finna bache and one galatasaray for the derby it really can be and i don't know cabal maybe
01:06:56that
01:06:57hurts him so much because you go in and their fans they're so emotional the atmosphere there
01:07:02is you know as a football fan i would recommend highly recommend to go there one day to experience it
01:07:06because it really they change games okay thank you three more games and ten more goals still to show
01:07:12you in a quirk of the way things are laid out in the draw one of liverpool or tottenham will
01:07:17face the
01:07:17winners between club bruges and atletico madrid the first leg in belgium was watched by stuart robson
01:07:23and jonathan pierce
01:07:27they've struck first in four of their last five champions league games atleti as a corner comes in
01:07:32underneath that was seis
01:07:36and they try to turn the ball back into the middle
01:07:41and the shot there blocked by mechale
01:07:44there's a big shout for handball by the atleti players
01:07:48comes off the arm of seis he didn't know too much about it did he
01:07:51you can see why they're looking at this
01:07:56atletico madrid have a penalty
01:08:00it will be milan alvarez who will take it
01:08:07and milan a stood richard to the spot and it's brugganil atletico madrid one inside eight minutes
01:08:12yeah i think milan was hoping he'd go down the middle so just did make a dive but it's a
01:08:18very good penalty
01:08:21alvarez in the last ten seconds of the half
01:08:25griezmann nicoke good movement rogeri came in
01:08:28it'll be a late corner here if they've got time
01:08:33alvarez with the corner
01:08:37second here could be deadly for the home side and atleti do get a second
01:08:41griezmann got the flick on up the near post
01:08:43look when was arriving
01:08:45griezmann will claim the goal i think
01:08:47two nil to atleti on the stroke of half time
01:08:49oh that's a real blow for bruggan
01:08:52well first things first it's a great delivery into the box into that near post area
01:08:57griezmann gets a flick
01:08:59lukman and the defender were very close to it
01:09:02i think lukman will get the goal
01:09:07sabbe
01:09:08good turn by solace looks a lively player stankovic
01:09:12and a fine piece of defensive recovery by mark poobel it's a corner
01:09:15to club bruggan
01:09:17now if he has the opportunity again i think he could have been better off
01:09:20shooting across the goalkeeper just hitting it with power
01:09:23out swings the corner kick
01:09:25it's headed goalwards and a brilliant save but it's it
01:09:28they have a goal back and it's rafael on yedeka
01:09:33five minutes into the second half
01:09:34bruggan one atleti two
01:09:37well the atleti players are all looking across to the assistants
01:09:40all got their hands up for offside
01:09:42there's a lovely save by oblak from solace
01:09:47look with the naked eye as if he was being played on
01:09:50goal give him
01:09:52bruggan one atleti two
01:09:59on yedeka again took up a good position
01:10:02now diakon
01:10:06goes again
01:10:07dead ball lining comes across it's 2-2
01:10:10nicolo trisoldi
01:10:12he's had a very good game and on the hour
01:10:14they've clawed back a two goal deficit
01:10:17what a start to the second half here
01:10:19here's the switch of play
01:10:24sardy works the defender
01:10:25starts to go back
01:10:26realises where it's going to go
01:10:28then just gets into that near post space
01:10:30brilliant
01:10:34wide is ruggieri
01:10:36and it continues the run
01:10:38now matteo ruggieri
01:10:42coque
01:10:44looking for solar
01:10:45big chance for the substitute
01:10:47get the frame of the goal
01:10:50well that's what he can do
01:10:51great ball from coque
01:10:53it's a very good attempt
01:10:57Alex Boehner
01:11:01strong ending by atleti
01:11:0212 to go
01:11:04Llorente early ball in
01:11:06saw an attack tick
01:11:07and scores
01:11:09and Ordonez
01:11:10switched off
01:11:11and it might have gone in off him
01:11:14but atleti who've been strong in the last two or three minutes
01:11:17in this topsy-turvy tie
01:11:19now lead 3-2
01:11:20an own goal by John Ordonez
01:11:23well that's a good ball played out wide
01:11:26there's the run from Llorente
01:11:28he plays it into a good area
01:11:29and he's trying to play it out for a corner
01:11:31and he passes it into his own net
01:11:33Ordonez
01:11:35big big moment for
01:11:38atleti
01:11:40one unique opportunity perhaps here for Solis
01:11:44they've done it again
01:11:46or have they
01:11:48or have they
01:11:49the arm goes up
01:11:50the flag goes up
01:11:52and hope turns to this bet
01:11:56very very tight this
01:11:58it's a good finish
01:11:59really good finish
01:12:02I think it was Molina that was
01:12:04the closest player to
01:12:06playing him on the side
01:12:09is this 3-3
01:12:12it's a goal
01:12:13it's a goal
01:12:14and it's 3-3
01:12:15what a fantastic game
01:12:17we've seen
01:12:18the second half has been brilliant
01:12:19particularly
01:12:20from Club Brugge
01:12:24Olympiacos won their last
01:12:25three league phase games
01:12:27to make the playoffs
01:12:28they faced
01:12:28Bayer Leverkusen
01:12:29currently 6th in the Bundesliga
01:12:33normally can bank on
01:12:35giving themselves a foothold
01:12:37and a tie by
01:12:38getting a result on home turf
01:12:40Olympiacos
01:12:41they've had 6
01:12:42of their
01:12:437
01:12:44home legs
01:12:47here is Schick
01:12:49who's through
01:12:49big chance
01:12:501-0
01:12:51clinical from Patrick Schick
01:12:53to put Bayer Leverkusen
01:12:55in front
01:12:58rapid counter
01:12:59from Leverkusen
01:13:00Schick with the
01:13:02intelligent run
01:13:02and Pocky's pass
01:13:04was made to measure
01:13:11it's another goal
01:13:12on the road

01:13:53to reach the last 16
01:13:54automatically
01:13:54before losing
01:13:55their last
01:13:56two league phase games
01:13:57the two sides
01:13:58met in front of
01:13:59the yellow wall
01:13:59for the first leg
01:14:04what a noise
01:14:05inside this
01:14:07wonderful stadium
01:14:09that's a super ball
01:14:11down the left hand side
01:14:12Brandt was hoping
01:14:14to get on the end
01:14:15of that
01:14:15chipped up by
01:14:16Bellingham
01:14:17looking for
01:14:17Bayer
01:14:18brought that down
01:14:20very nicely
01:14:21it's got
01:14:22Riessen
01:14:23available
01:14:25it's a lovely ball
01:14:27in
01:14:27oh what a start
01:14:28for Dortmund
01:14:29it's Girassi
01:14:32the home side lead
01:14:34with just two minutes
01:14:35on the watch

01:14:39for his fourth
01:14:40Champions League goal
01:14:42of the season
01:14:44towering leap
01:14:45towering leap
01:14:45by Girassi
01:14:46above Kisunu
01:14:47and the Guinea
01:14:49forward
01:14:49gives Dortmund
01:14:51an early lead
01:14:52here
01:14:53in the first
01:14:54leg of this
01:14:54playoff
01:14:55Girassi
01:14:56working the channels
01:14:58and he's in behind
01:14:59here Girassi
01:15:00can he find
01:15:02Bayer
01:15:03there he is
01:15:062-0 Dortmund

01:15:09grabs the second
01:15:11made by Girassi
01:15:13all he had to do
01:15:15was touch it
01:15:16over the line
01:15:17for his first
01:15:19Champions League
01:15:19goal of the season
01:15:21he's clearly
01:15:22onside
01:15:23and he nearly
01:15:24got his feet
01:15:25in a right
01:15:26muddle there
01:15:27but he did it up
01:15:31playing with a great
01:15:32deal of confidence
01:15:33now
01:15:34and Girassi
01:15:35is in again
01:15:36and a tangle
01:15:36with Kisunu
01:15:37but no foul
01:15:39the referee
01:15:40says get up
01:15:41and I think

01:15:47over the shoulder
01:15:47in time
01:15:49here it comes
01:15:50from

01:15:53and drilled
01:15:54over by
01:15:54Brandt
01:15:55the Dortmund
01:15:56captain
01:15:57with a big
01:15:58opportunity
01:15:58here
01:15:59but he just
01:16:00couldn't quite
01:16:01get his foot
01:16:01over the ball
01:16:02and it spins
01:16:03over the bar
01:16:06well it was
01:16:07a cracker
01:16:08in Bruges
01:16:09tonight
01:16:10but Atleti
01:16:11will be wondering
01:16:12how they threw
01:16:12that away
01:16:13let's put the
01:16:14context
01:16:14in the last
01:16:14five years
01:16:15they've spent
01:16:15150 million
01:16:17net
01:16:17pounds net
01:16:19and yet
01:16:20they're not
01:16:20winning anything
01:16:21they're 15 points
01:16:22away from
01:16:22Real Madrid
01:16:23they go 2-0
01:16:24up against Bruges
01:16:25they cannot
01:16:26keep that up
01:16:27they beat
01:16:28Betis
01:16:285-1
01:16:30away
01:16:30and then
01:16:31they lose
01:16:31against
01:16:31Betis
01:16:32at home
01:16:32in the league
01:16:32and then
01:16:33beat
01:16:34Barthona
01:16:344-0
01:16:35in the cup
01:16:35and then
01:16:36they lose
01:16:36against
01:16:36Rayo
01:16:373-0
01:16:37there's no
01:16:38consistency
01:16:38they don't
01:16:39defend well
01:16:40they don't
01:16:41attack
01:16:41in an
01:16:41organised
01:16:42attack
01:16:43and
01:16:44Simeone
01:16:44remains there
01:16:45but
01:16:46there's new
01:16:46ownership
01:16:47Apollo
01:16:47one of the
01:16:48biggest
01:16:48investment
01:16:49groups
01:16:49in the world
01:16:50for
01:16:51I think
01:16:51they've got
01:16:51£850 billion
01:16:52money available
01:16:54and they're
01:16:55going to put
01:16:55money into
01:16:55the club
01:16:56they bring
01:16:56a new CEO
01:16:57who is pushing
01:16:58with the idea
01:16:59that perhaps
01:16:59it's time
01:17:00for a change
01:17:01end of an era
01:17:02Simeone will go
01:17:03when he wants
01:17:03to
01:17:04but when you
01:17:05feel at the edge
01:17:06you perhaps
01:17:07go like
01:17:08yeah alright
01:17:08better go
01:17:09it just feels
01:17:10like something
01:17:10could happen
01:17:11something like that
01:17:11could happen
01:17:12ok
01:17:12thank you very much
01:17:13hasn't been a great
01:17:14week for the

01:17:15either
01:17:15in these
01:17:16first legs
01:17:16a reminder
01:17:17of the overall

01:17:26and the winners
01:17:26of that will face
01:17:27either Barcelona
01:17:28or Chelsea
01:17:29as will Newcastle
01:17:30barring a miracle
01:17:31from Carabac
01:17:32Juventus will need
01:17:34to overturn
01:17:34a three goal deficit
01:17:35in Turin
01:17:36against Galatasaray
01:17:37now Liverpool
01:17:37or Tottenham
01:17:38are next for the
01:17:39winner of that one
01:17:40Real Madrid

01:17:41lead back to the

01:17:42while Inter
01:17:43have it all to do
01:17:44at San Siro
