00:00:00In the air, in the air, in the air, the champions.
00:00:53Hello, welcome to Champions League Match of the Day on a night of European football mayhem.
00:00:5918 games taking place simultaneously and every one of them has something riding on it.
00:01:06With us tonight, in their flamboyant outfits, our Champions League analysts Stephen Warnock and Nader Manua,
00:01:13alongside European football expert Julien Laurent.
00:01:16Right, before we get going, here's the table at the start of the night.
00:01:20So remember, the top eight go through to the last 16 automatically, then the next 16 teams go into the
00:01:25playoffs.
00:01:26The bottom 12 are gone and eliminated altogether.
00:01:30So Arsenal and Bayern are the only teams already qualified for the last 16.
00:01:34For Real Madrid, Liverpool and Spurs, they know that a win tonight is enough to join them.
00:01:39And then there are eight teams on 13 points, so it's likely that they will fight it out for the
00:01:46remaining top eight spots.
00:01:47But not only will they want to win, they'll also want to make sure that their goal difference is good
00:01:51enough.
00:01:52And then at the other end of the table, only the bottom four are out.
00:01:56So it could get very interesting indeed, because three points separate Marseille in 19th, all the way down to Ajax
00:02:03in 32nd.
00:02:05Right, we're going to start with one of the teams on 13, and Chelsea, who went to Napoli with their
00:02:12goal difference of plus six,
00:02:13putting them in the final top eight spot at the start of play.
00:02:16The home side were in danger of going out completely.
00:02:20Steve Wilson is your commentator.
00:02:23Well, the margins tonight could hardly be tighter.
00:02:26Chelsea looking to avoid a playoff.
00:02:28Napoli hoping to secure one.
00:02:31So many Chelsea connections in Naples, not least Antonio Conte.
00:02:35But the only one of three former Chelsea players he can call on tonight is Romelu Lukaku.
00:02:41And that only is a substitute after seven months of injury.
00:02:44Liam Rossini's Chelsea side shows five changes to that which laboured past Paphos.
00:02:51Cole Palmer is on the bench.
00:02:53He hasn't played in this competition since match day one.
00:02:58Napoli haven't lost any of their last 25 home games.
00:03:03Going back to a defeat here against Lazio on the 8th of December of 2024.
00:03:11Is that a foul? It is.
00:03:15Joao Pedro was caught.
00:03:17And Alex Merritt is on his toes.
00:03:20It wasn't actually Joao Jesus who caught Joao Pedro.
00:03:22It was Antonio Vergara.
00:03:25It's touched to Rhys James and hit the wall.
00:03:28Chelsea say it was handball.
00:03:31I think he's given it.
00:03:34Clearly, Joao Jesus has handled this.
00:03:38And Chelsea have a penalty.
00:03:41Rhys James hits it.
00:03:43Joao Jesus clearly moves his arm towards the ball in mid-flight.
00:03:48They appeal for handball.
00:03:51Enzo Fernandes is going to take this.
00:03:54He's taken four and scored them all this season.
00:03:57This to strike first.
00:04:00And he does.
00:04:02That's a sensational penalty.
00:04:04It really is.
00:04:06Because Alex Merritt's guessed right.
00:04:08And anywhere but.
00:04:10Low and absolutely in the corner.
00:04:13I think the keeper would have saved that.
00:04:15Napoli 0, Chelsea 1.
00:04:19I hope you're really pleased.
00:04:21This is a tough assignment.
00:04:22Make no mistake.
00:04:23Napoli away.
00:04:26Rhys James.
00:04:28And Pedro Neto has got in behind Olivera.
00:04:31And it needed Alex Merritt.
00:04:33And the overhead kick from Joao Pedro then evaded.
00:04:36Pedro Neto.
00:04:37Who got in behind Matthias Olivera here.
00:04:40It's a great ball by Rhys James.
00:04:42Good pace by Pedro Neto.
00:04:45Matthias Olivera I think was dawdling.
00:04:49Locked into Rasmus Hoyland.
00:04:54Santos away.
00:04:57Mattias Olivera winning that Vergara here.
00:05:01Vergara away from Caicedo.
00:05:03And what a great goal.
00:05:06Antonio Vergara.
00:05:11Somehow pirouetting, turning and finishing.
00:05:16It's his first ever goal for Napoli.
00:05:20And they desperately needed it.
00:05:24Well there didn't seem to be any way through.
00:05:27But a bit of belief.
00:05:28A bit of persistence.
00:05:31And a bit of a pirouet.
00:05:33Suddenly got him through.
00:05:40McTominay.
00:05:41Vergara.
00:05:43Spinazzola overlapping beautifully actually.
00:05:45Wasn't the greatest ball in.
00:05:47Caicedo and Fofana.
00:05:49Had a moment.
00:05:50When they definitely weren't on the same wavelength.
00:05:53Here's La Botca.
00:05:55Tranjesus.
00:05:57Elmas.
00:06:01Mattias Olivera's run.
00:06:03Oh brilliant.
00:06:06Rasmus Hoyland scores for Napoli.
00:06:10And Antonio Conte's side.
00:06:13Have picked this game up.
00:06:15And turned it on its head.
00:06:17Two goals in ten minutes.
00:06:21Well it's an outstanding goal.
00:06:24Great movement in the penalty area.
00:06:27Napoli two.
00:06:29Chelsea one.
00:06:38Estavao for Parma.
00:06:39Neatly into João Pedro.
00:06:41Bit of promise here.
00:06:42Xiao Pedro.
00:06:43Great hit.
00:06:45And it's 2-2.
00:06:48It's an outstanding strike.
00:06:50We've seen some really good goals tonight.
00:06:54Estavao into Cole Palma.
00:06:56Onto João Pedro.
00:06:57Lovely little flick away from Di Lorenzo.
00:07:00And then hit it across.
00:07:02Juan Jesus.
00:07:03And beyond Alex Merritt.
00:07:06Be quite a feather in Liam Rossini's hat.
00:07:10To beat Antonio Conte.
00:07:12To beat Napoli on home turf.
00:07:16Not many do that.
00:07:18Now João Pedro.
00:07:20He's got Garnaccio to his left.
00:07:23He might not use him.
00:07:24He doesn't.
00:07:27Chelsea have the lead.
00:07:30João Pedro's double.
00:07:33Napoli two.
00:07:35Chelsea three.
00:07:36What a game of comebacks this is.
00:07:41Napoli turned it around from 1-0 down to lead 2-1.
00:07:46And Chelsea have turned it back.
00:07:48And lead 3-2.
00:07:50He got himself away from Miguel GutiƩrrez.
00:07:54And found the corner of the Napoli net.
00:08:03Miguel GutiƩrrez.
00:08:06Decent ball that.
00:08:07Chaliba got something on it.
00:08:09Garnaccio has lost it to Vergara.
00:08:11And here's an opportunity.
00:08:14Lukaku.
00:08:14And Sanchez makes the save.
00:08:17What a story that nearly was.
00:08:24Big save that.
00:08:26But Chelsea would have to wait and see if their goal difference was good enough.
00:08:29So next we'll go to Paris.
00:08:31Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle also both on 13 points.
00:08:34Victory would almost certainly seal a path straight through to the last 16.
00:08:39Defeat would almost certainly mean dropping into the playoffs.
00:08:42A draw and their fate would be out of their hands.
00:08:45Commentary on this one comes from Mark Scott.
00:08:49Eddie Howes called this the ultimate test in Europe.
00:08:53And while a trip to the Champions League holders would be tricky for anyone.
00:08:58Newcastle's ropey away form makes it even more of a challenge.
00:09:02Aside from a rare starting goal for Matt V Safonov.
00:09:06PSG are as expected.
00:09:09In contrast the Newcastle line-up has caught many by surprise.
00:09:13Gordon and Barnes who have 11 goals between them in the Champions League this season.
00:09:18Both begin on the bench.
00:09:19Captain Bruno Guimaraes, meanwhile, isn't risked because of injury.
00:09:28Nudo Mendes, that's clever.
00:09:30They could be in trouble early on here in Newcastle.
00:09:33Dembele was waiting.
00:09:34Bakula interested.
00:09:36And now Slavko Vincic is being lobbied for an early penalty.
00:09:41Inside of a minute the VAR does want to get involved here.
00:09:45Did it come off Bakula's arm first though?
00:09:48Before it went on to Miley's.
00:09:51Slavko Vincic hasn't needed long.
00:09:54Penalty.
00:09:55The worst possible start for Newcastle United.
00:10:02So Ousmane Dembele against Nick Pope to give Paris Saint-Germain an early lead.
00:10:10Dembele.
00:10:11Oh wonderful from Pope.
00:10:15What a superb save from the Newcastle keeper.
00:10:19To keep Dembele out.
00:10:21Don't think there's too much wrong with the penalty.
00:10:24It is just a top draw save from Pope.
00:10:30Newcastle haven't had a kick as of yet.
00:10:34Look about Ratskelia.
00:10:37Plenty of room to work with here.
00:10:40The Newcastle defence a bit unsure as to what to do.
00:10:43It opens up here.
00:10:44Pope isn't able to keep that one out.
00:10:48Paris in front.
00:10:51A superb strike yet again from Vitinha.
00:10:55It all started really but Newcastle being too passive here.
00:10:59Kovaratskelia able to advance.
00:11:01Look at the room for Vitinha.
00:11:03Such composure.
00:11:05Such technique.
00:11:06And such a swagger from the holders early on.
00:11:11It's been pretty relentless from Paris Saint-Germain.
00:11:17Dembele.
00:11:19And again, it's so easy.
00:11:22Pope with the save.
00:11:23To prevent it getting embarrassing for Newcastle early on.
00:11:28Lovely exchange there between Taya Emery and Dembele.
00:11:33Pope did well.
00:11:35How Newcastle could do with Bruno Kimarais in the middle tonight.
00:11:39Being overrun right now.
00:11:45Bruno Mendes looked like he was dragged back there.
00:11:47Play goes on.
00:11:50Oh!
00:11:50And over the top from Willian Pacho.
00:11:54It's a bit of a careless swipe over the top really.
00:11:57And yet another Paris Saint-Germain chance comes and goes.
00:12:07Free kick for Newcastle and you would have thought they'd be happy to take as long as possible to ensure
00:12:13they go in just the one down.
00:12:21That's Marquinhos' header.
00:12:22Burn back in.
00:12:231-1!
00:12:25Wouldn't you just know it?
00:12:28Newcastle under the pump.
00:12:30But back on terms at PSG.
00:12:33Courtesy of Joe Willock.
00:12:36Paris Saint-Germain have had a sack full of chances.
00:12:39But right at the end of the half.
00:12:41A long ball in.
00:12:43Nodded across by Byrne.
00:12:45And then headed home by Willock.
00:12:48PSG won.
00:12:50Newcastle won.
00:12:54Hope fans finding their voice again after.
00:12:57Being stunned into silence by that Willock goal.
00:13:04Bontemada turning.
00:13:05And laying off.
00:13:06And Hall was nearly in.
00:13:08Now it's Tonali.
00:13:11Oh!
00:13:13Ramsey's delivery is spilled and from out of nothing Newcastle nearly flashing a chance to incredibly take the lead.
00:13:23Had nowhere near the same kind of momentum that they built up in the first half.
00:13:28PSG.
00:13:30And credit to Newcastle.
00:13:31For the half-time tweaks that they've made to change the flow of the game.
00:13:37It's a useful ball.
00:13:39And Dembele.
00:13:40Has sent it wide.
00:13:42Clearest jumps that PSG have had since the break.
00:13:47They had to go through the knockout phase playoffs last season.
00:13:50Luis Enrique's side.
00:13:52This might mean that they have to do so again.
00:13:56Newcastle have suffered from real travel sickness this season.
00:13:59Might not be a win but if they hold on for a point here it would be one of their
00:14:04best on the road this season.
00:14:05Gordon going for goal!
00:14:07Safonov behind it.
00:14:11Newcastle not just holding on for a point.
00:14:17The cross from Nuno Mendes is deflected and then cleared.
00:14:21Valtemada.
00:14:22Tonali looking to use the pace of Gordon here.
00:14:26Hakimi's also fast though.
00:14:29Gordon.
00:14:30Barnes is here.
00:14:32Valtemada's up there.
00:14:34Ramsey!
00:14:36PSG were really stretched there.
00:14:39Excellent.
00:14:41Newcastle counter.
00:14:43Nearly finished off by Jacob Ramsey.
00:14:47It's going to be an in-stringer from Miley.
00:14:49With 15 minutes to go.
00:14:53Safonov struggling!
00:14:55Tonali!
00:14:57Couple of bites of the cherry for Newcastle there.
00:15:02Tonali just couldn't get over the ball.
00:15:06Saia Emery.
00:15:08Due.
00:15:10He's had a go.
00:15:12Chao behind it.
00:15:16Dembele.
00:15:19Vitinha!
00:15:22Patience stuff for PSG.
00:15:24And it's finished with a first-time whip from Vitinha.
00:15:28Both sides know that they need to push on to try and get a winner.
00:15:34Do a...
00:15:35Do a...
00:15:36With the poor touch.
00:15:37And Newcastle now will look to break at pace.
00:15:41Gordon.
00:15:43Speeding away here.
00:15:44Whistler's in the middle.
00:15:45Big chances for Newcastle.
00:15:48Gordon.
00:15:49Barnes!
00:15:50Safonov with a big save.
00:15:53Could have been a Newcastle winner.
00:15:56Which would have almost certainly taken them into the last 16.
00:16:02Gordon.
00:16:03Getting the wrong side of Marquinhos here.
00:16:06It's Anthony Gordon.
00:16:09Gordon deflected.
00:16:11Barnes!
00:16:13Wow.
00:16:15Newcastle's two top scorers in the Champions League this season.
00:16:20Nearly combining to give Newcastle an unforgettable Champions League result.
00:16:29Good result for Newcastle but still nothing confirmed for them or Paris Saint-Germain or remember Chelsea.
00:16:35However, Spurs knew that if they won at already eliminated Eidentracht Frankfurt, they would definitely finish in the top eight.
00:16:43Your commentator, Steve White.
00:16:46A night for Tottenham to disregard their scarcity of domestic wins and focus on a precious fifth in the Champions
00:16:53League.
00:16:54They'll hope Frankfurt's status as one of just four teams with nothing to play for makes them docile rather than
00:17:01dangerous.
00:17:01Frankfurt's six changes include a start for experienced Mario Goetze.
00:17:06But there's no Jan Uzan, a player linked with Premier League clubs, Spurs included.
00:17:12Five Tottenham changes including Randol Kolomowani who starts despite a minor car accident that delayed his journey.
00:17:19Dominic Solanke drops to an otherwise inexperienced bench.
00:17:24The 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last week.
00:17:27Extended Tottenham's unbeaten run against German sides to six games.
00:17:33Unbeaten isn't the objective though tonight.
00:17:37Udogi.
00:17:38A positive start is from Tottenham who are in early and have scored early.
00:17:50How welcome is that?
00:17:53Or how welcome would it have been?
00:17:57Xavi Simons finally looks over to discover the bad news.
00:18:02The whistle blew immediately for an offside there.
00:18:06But should it have been the case?
00:18:12But Udogi may have been impeding Amenda from an offside position.
00:18:19The on-field decision stands.
00:18:23Well, that will be controversial.
00:18:26If Tottenham don't find a way to score a legitimate goal tonight.
00:18:33Sval Polinia.
00:18:36Kolomowani.
00:18:38What a bet!
00:18:41So close to an outstanding goal.
00:18:45Well, this would have been glorious.
00:18:48Worked the side of the target quite splendidly.
00:18:51Did Tottenham for Wilson Odeber.
00:18:54Who must have thought that was creeping inside the post.
00:18:58Joao Paulinia.
00:19:02Brown.
00:19:04Oh, error.
00:19:05Xavi Simons pounces!
00:19:08But can't capitalise.
00:19:11Dangerous game.
00:19:12Being played at the back by Eintracht Frankfurt.
00:19:15This was a present that Tottenham really should have accepted.
00:19:23It's Elias Schiheri in the final minute of the first half.
00:19:28Larsen is in!
00:19:30And has clipped the top of the crossbar.
00:19:33Well, the Frankfurt goal would have been very unwelcome from a Tottenham point of view.
00:19:39Odeber.
00:19:42Udogi.
00:19:46Simons delivers.
00:19:47Romero!
00:19:48Yes!
00:19:49For Tottenham!
00:19:51Right at the start of the second half.
00:19:53The goal they have been striving for.
00:19:58Finally something to celebrate on a night when they had to have something to celebrate.
00:20:04And against his former club, Randol Kolomwani is taking the acclaim.
00:20:09Frankfurt nil.
00:20:10Tottenham one.
00:20:13Tieta.
00:20:15Tottenham have organised themselves.
00:20:20Showing good resolve.
00:20:21Skiri.
00:20:22What a ball that is!
00:20:25And Aurelia Buta has just fluffed.
00:20:28A glorious chance to make it 1-1.
00:20:33Spurs play three of the Premier League's top four over the course of the next month.
00:20:39Avoiding the need to play two extra games in the Champions League in that period would be very welcome indeed.
00:20:48Reach Siemens, but it's been helped on towards Solanke, who's in to settle the matter.
00:20:53The player who won the Europa League quarter-final for Tottenham here in April of last year might just have
00:21:01struck the critical goal for them to secure a top eight finish in the Champions League a season on.
00:21:09Premier League woes can be cast aside for the evening because Tottenham are on their way to yet another win
00:21:16in the Champions League, their fourth in the last five games.
00:21:23You know, it's a massive relief and something that we're really proud of to finish top four in the, you
00:21:27know, in the Champions League with the best teams in the world.
00:21:29It's, you know, it's where we want to be and like I said, it's a massive relief because in football
00:21:33there's just so many games nowadays and, you know, to have two less games in a season can be massive
00:21:37and especially with the tough fixtures that we've got coming up, it's nice to, you know, be able to prepare
00:21:41a little bit more for those games, so, yeah.
00:21:44So Spurs through. Now back to one of the other teams starting on 13 points, Manchester City who are looking
00:21:51to win and win big against Galatasaray.
00:21:54The Turkish champions were playing to stay in the top 24. Guy Mowbrie was at the Etihad.
00:22:02Erling Haaland returns to Pep Guardiola's starting line-up and City really could do with him ending a run of
00:22:08five games without a goal.
00:22:10Rodri suspended whilst neither Mark Gahey or Antoine Semenyo are eligible to play.
00:22:15Ilkay Gundogan is the captain of Galatasaray. On his return to the club he served for eight seasons and led
00:22:22to the travel in 2023.
00:22:24The main danger though is surely Victor Ossiman, who reached 50 goals from just 59 Galatasaray games at the weekend,
00:22:31a new club record.
00:22:35All that matters first is that Manchester City take care of what happens here and that might not be straightforward.
00:22:42Galatasaray have made a habit over the years of tripping up opponents from England who haven't taken care.
00:22:50Ait Nouri down the left-hand side, still finding his feet as a Manchester City player.
00:22:56Great ball for Haaland and he's missed it!
00:23:00Ait Nouri could not have put that in a better position for Manchester City's number nine.
00:23:07Just how he likes them usually.
00:23:11But that's the way he's been going for him lately.
00:23:18Dock him.
00:23:20A little shimmy past Gundogan and Haaland is in! Haaland's chip, City lead!
00:23:27He doesn't miss twice.
00:23:31Wonderfully timed, brilliantly found, superbly dispatched.
00:23:37And he keeps up his record of a goal a game average in the Champions League.
00:23:43What a good pass it is from Docku.
00:23:45Haaland is, as far as Abdul Karim, but actually is concerned, on the wrong side.
00:23:51And once he was in front, well we knew what was happening next.
00:23:56Manchester City won, Galatasaray nil.
00:24:01Here's Nico O'Reilly!
00:24:05Goodness, that had some force behind it!
00:24:07It's a good save by Urchin Shakir, because that was travelling.
00:24:20Dorku, faced by Sanchez.
00:24:23Plays it back, and it's finished by Cherky.
00:24:29City have a two-goal lead.
00:24:32Donnarumma has some instructions to take on from his boss.
00:24:36Galatasaray have problems to solve.
00:24:40Rean Cherky's third Champions League goal.
00:24:43Dorku played the pass at just the right time.
00:24:46Into just the right place, to just the right person.
00:24:50Nicely curled into the corner.
00:24:53Haaland and Cherky.
00:24:55City two, Galatasaray nil.
00:25:01Steps on the gas, and gets past Chalai.
00:25:05In towards Foden!
00:25:09Mamouche behind him, Haaland square of him.
00:25:13Foden's finish was found wanting.
00:25:19Sane runs into Bernardo Silva, but runs through him.
00:25:23Gundogan.
00:25:25Here's Jacobs.
00:25:27Plenty of Red and Ember shirts forward now.
00:25:31Gabriel Sara.
00:25:32Bounced back to him by Yilmaz.
00:25:34And then bounced behind by Kusanov for a corner.
00:25:41Gabriel Sara.
00:25:43Headed by Ossiman, it's on target.
00:25:46But it is straight at Donnarumma.
00:25:48Broke free of Bernardo Silva and Omar Mamouche.
00:25:52And he couldn't get the power.
00:25:58Haaland, gets it back from Sanchez.
00:26:01And storms down the middle, now he finds Mamouche.
00:26:05Spilled by goalkeeper Shakir, but he recovers.
00:26:09The game we point out to the fact that goal difference could be the deciding factor for a top eight
00:26:15finish or not.
00:26:16He knows it.
00:26:17That's probably why he's even more animated than usual.
00:26:21Here's Chalai getting as far forward as he's been all night.
00:26:24Great save, Donnarumma, to keep that Ossiman.
00:26:31Donnarumma down really smartly.
00:26:35Foden.
00:26:38Cherky.
00:26:39Swept his way by Ryan Aitnuri.
00:26:43Aitnuri, Cherky, they combine again.
00:26:47Here's Aitnuri!
00:26:49Blocked by Chakir.
00:26:52Ryan Aitnuri.
00:26:54Can see his eyes light up, even staring through the back of his head as it comes off Bardakshi.
00:27:00Had a really good, quick reaction from Urjan Chakir.
00:27:03Keeps it at two.
00:27:08And there's Aitnuri, and now it's Foden and Haaland's free!
00:27:12Foden couldn't pick him out.
00:27:15So many chances.
00:27:17If it does come down to goal difference, then City will be left thinking about the number of opportunities they've
00:27:23passed up this evening.
00:27:26Right, so now we have City, Chelsea, Newcastle and PSG all waiting to find out their fate.
00:27:33Real Madrid, though, knew a win would guarantee their top eight place, but draw or lose and it will be
00:27:39out of their hands.
00:27:41Benfica had to win and improve their goal difference to sneak into the playoffs.
00:27:46Rob Palmer watched this one.

00:29:33And he's done it again.
00:29:35Sheldon up second.
00:29:38Our Benfica going to create one of the great upsets on the final night.
00:29:47Goulaire cuts it back and Bappe!
00:29:50His second on this helter-skelter night.
00:29:53Goulaire cuts it back and he's done it.
00:30:00Prestiani.
00:30:02Right across the fence.
00:30:03They've got Courtois to the rescue yet again for Real Madrid.
00:30:07Doesn't matter how you keep them out, as long as you keep them out.
00:30:13Oh, that was a late and crazy challenge from Asensio.
00:30:19Please leave the field by the nearest available exit.
00:30:26I don't know if he's having none of that.
00:30:30The ball is stolen by Kylian Mbappe.
00:30:35Well, the law says if it's under control of the goalkeeper.
00:30:39There will be many out there that are disputing that.
00:30:42I'm thinking back to the famous goals in decades gone by,
00:30:46where that has been given.
00:30:48Oh my goodness, it goes from bad to worse to crazy.
00:30:53But Real Madrid, Rodrigo is the second player dismissed.
00:30:59Where do you start with this game?
00:31:01Where will this game end?
00:31:05Benfica have a two-man advantage.
00:31:10Now the onus is on them.
00:31:12If they can get a goal,
00:31:15they head into the top 24,
00:31:17and their season in Europe will be extended.
00:31:20Jose Mourinho tells them to just go for it.
00:31:23Might as well send his goalkeeper up there.
00:31:25They've got two extra players.
00:31:30Ornus hangs it up there.
00:31:31The goalkeeper's there!
00:31:32Oh my goodness gracious me!
00:31:35This is unbelievable!
00:31:37A diving header from Trubin!
00:31:41Jose Mourinho is back to haunt his former club!
00:31:46He's achieved some incredible things in his career,
00:31:50but even he hasn't seen anything like this!
00:31:58Wow, wow.
00:32:00Benfica remarkably gets into the playoffs.
00:32:03Real Madrid left hanging on 15 points.
00:32:06And there could be more Portuguese joy with Sporting.
00:32:09They had an impressive win
00:32:10against defending champions PSG last week,
00:32:13so had a chance to make the top eight
00:32:15if they won in Bilbao against Athletic Club.
00:32:20Well, it's come to the crunch.
00:32:22The final day of the league phase.
00:32:24A busy night.
00:32:25Permutations aplenty.
00:32:27Athletic with some typical intricate play
00:32:29and a wonderful start!
00:32:32Sunset!
00:32:33Just over two minutes gone!
00:32:35And you could not wish for a more ideal start than that!
00:32:42Oh, what an answer!
00:32:45That is a quite fabulous header
00:32:47from Ousmane Diamande.
00:32:49Absolutely brilliant from Diamande.
00:32:55And Tess Rice in trouble.
00:32:56Good as Zeta.
00:32:58Oh!
00:32:59He'll have another chance, which he takes!
00:33:02The man with the minus touch in the Champions League
00:33:05has got another crucial goal for Athletic Club.
00:33:09It's just, he's so unfortunate with that first one,
00:33:11but that's classy, isn't it?
00:33:16Trincao, beautiful work.
00:33:18Trincao again!
00:33:19That is a magnificent goal!
00:33:22Sporting show their quality.
00:33:25Oh, this is such a good team goal.
00:33:27He's onside.
00:33:28It's a lovely little ball through.
00:33:30It had to be him that was involved.
00:33:33The pressure taken right off by Rui Silva and maybe right on if they can get this right.
00:33:39It's a real opportunity for Luis Suarez perhaps to win it!
00:33:44There's touch let him down in there and Athletic Club escape thanks to their goalkeeper,
00:33:48but not now!
00:33:49Alisson Santos with a goal that means so much to Sporting!
00:33:55It's just such a quick break, isn't it?
00:33:57You think Suarez is going to score, he stumbles, whether he slightly slips, the ball's just behind him.
00:34:03But when it falls here, what a lovely finish that is!
00:34:13Great win for Sporting and we're getting closer to clarifying the top eight with Chelsea, Newcastle, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester
00:34:21City and Real Madrid still all hanging.
00:34:24But we aren't there yet, so we can't risk any of these three speaking until we do.
00:34:29You having fun?
00:34:30Loved it!
00:34:31Can't say anything!
00:34:32Right, simple for Liverpool, beat Carabaug and they'd be in the top eight.
00:34:36Steve Bauer, Wizard Hamfield.
00:34:40With three centre-backs all unavailable to him, honour slot opts for Ryan Gravenberg to fill in alongside Virgil van
00:34:47Dijk.
00:34:48As Viet, Salah, Gakpo and Akatike all start for Liverpool, who've won 17 of their last 20 Champions League group
00:34:55stage matches.
00:34:56Carabaug, who make only their second ever visit to England, made 11 changes last weekend.
00:35:02So all their first-choice players return tonight, including Colombian striker Camilo Duran, who has four goals already in the
00:35:10competition.
00:35:13The first ever meeting between these two teams.
00:35:18It's along from the central defender, Medina, to the captain, Soubirte, the Frenchman.
00:35:25Oh, no.
00:35:26Nowhere near anyone.
00:35:29Jeremy Fringpong there, and down he went.
00:35:32He's holding his groin.
00:35:35His night is over, and that is another one on the injury list for Arna Slott and Liverpool.
00:35:49And Brazilian Silva thought that was a goal kick, it's a Liverpool corner.
00:35:53And that's a signal from Sabaslai, who delivers.
00:36:00Akatike applying the flick, Van Dijk!
00:36:02Did that cross the line?
00:36:05It did!
00:36:09Alexis McAllister
00:36:11to give Liverpool the lead after a quarter of an hour.
00:36:21Akatike's touch and turn.
00:36:24and now subsequent run into Vietz

00:36:39after some very impressive work
00:36:41from Hugo Iketico
00:36:46Salah has it back
00:36:49and the return pass from Vietz
00:36:53Salah caught there, he was
00:36:57as the back-in referee took his time
00:37:00just clipped there
00:37:01the Carlo outside the penalty area
00:37:05it's touched to Salah
00:37:09and it is very much worth the wait
00:37:14it's a 49th career Champions League goal
00:37:18for Mo Salah
00:37:24that's for Iketico to get on the end of
00:37:28is this his moment?
00:37:29oh it is
00:37:32he's looked razor sharp all evening
00:37:35he's looked hungry to score all evening
00:37:38and he has Liverpool's fourth
00:37:42and the top scorer is up to 13
00:37:46for the season
00:37:49and this is turning into a confidence boosting
00:37:52routine evening
00:37:55this could be a long half an hour for Karabakh
00:37:58Vietz
00:38:03McAllister lets it go
00:38:04he'll get a go for his second
00:38:08and Liverpool's fifth
00:38:11and they are flying their way to a top four finish

00:38:34and he's found Chiesa
00:38:38Van Dijk with the assist
00:38:40Chiesa with the goal
00:38:436-0 Liverpool
00:38:57to be honest we know that maybe in Champions League
00:39:00we've been a little bit better than in the Premier League
00:39:02it's always important to score early
00:39:04especially if you score
00:39:06so that helps
00:39:07I think the team did a good job
00:39:10so now it's time to recover and go for the next one
00:39:13we're happy that we are going straight away to the last 16

00:43:12they
00:43:13won't have to go
00:43:14through the playoffs
00:43:16they're straight into
00:43:17the last 16
00:43:18so that does mean
00:43:20that despite
00:43:21Newcastle
00:43:21getting that
00:43:22very creditable
00:43:23point away
00:43:24to the European
00:43:26champions
00:43:26they will have to go
00:43:27into the playoffs
00:43:28as will Paris Saint-Germain
00:43:30themselves
00:43:31that was the route
00:43:33they did
00:43:33last year
00:43:34of course
00:43:35on their way
00:43:35to winning it
00:43:36and Benfica
00:43:38Benfica
00:43:39sneak into the playoffs
00:43:40and by doing so
00:43:42not Real Madrid
00:43:43into the playoffs
00:43:44as well
00:43:44Real Madrid
00:43:45drop out
00:43:46of the top 8
00:43:47and they will have
00:43:48to go
00:43:49into the playoffs
00:43:50let's just hear
00:43:51from some of the people
00:43:51involved tonight
00:43:55We are top 8
00:43:56we have
00:43:56you know
00:43:57have a long week
00:43:58don't play
00:43:59you know
00:43:59competition
00:43:59we have in the last 16
00:44:01and we see
00:44:01which opponent
00:44:02the second leg
00:44:03at home
00:44:03so really pleased
00:44:04for that
00:44:05I give the credit
00:44:07to the players
00:44:08I said when I came in
00:44:10they lost a manager
00:44:11that they really respected
00:44:13for reasons
00:44:14that are beyond
00:44:14my control
00:44:16or knowledge
00:44:17so when you go through
00:44:18that as a young group
00:44:19to come back
00:44:20and then to accept
00:44:20a new manager
00:44:21the way they have done
00:44:22and for them to work
00:44:23as hard as they have done
00:44:24for me
00:44:24is a credit to them
00:44:25and hopefully
00:44:26we can have more
00:44:27really good nights
00:44:27like this
00:44:28The first 15-20 minutes
00:44:30we struggled to handle them
00:44:31but after that
00:44:32I thought we grew into the game
00:44:33and I thought it was a very
00:44:35mature performance from us
00:44:36I think we've learnt a lot
00:44:37from the last Champions League
00:44:38campaign we had
00:44:39and to be honest
00:44:40I thought we had the better chance
00:44:41this second half
00:44:41and probably could have won it
00:44:42the first time that
00:44:43our club's been to the
00:44:44knockout stages of the
00:44:45Champions League
00:44:45and something we're
00:44:46very very proud of
00:44:48and yeah
00:44:49more games to add to the schedule
00:44:50but we're
00:44:51very up for the challenge
00:44:52What can you do?
00:44:54What can we do from now?
00:44:55Moan and complain
00:44:56or we found ourselves
00:44:57in this position now
00:44:58outside the top eight
00:44:59and we have to approach it
00:45:00with the same mentality
00:45:01as if we were playing
00:45:02the quarter final
00:45:04it doesn't matter to us
00:45:05now we have to carry on
00:45:06I did it
00:45:07and I don't know
00:45:08what to say actually
00:45:09I'm not
00:45:10I'm not probably
00:45:11used to score
00:45:13so for me
00:45:14it was something
00:45:14something completely new
00:45:15I don't know
00:45:16I'm 24 years old
00:45:17and for me
00:45:18it's first time
00:45:19so I don't know
00:45:20unbelievable
00:45:22so there you have it
00:45:24we'll focus on things
00:45:24at the other end
00:45:25of the table
00:45:26later on
00:45:27but we'll just show you
00:45:28how the top 12
00:45:29looks there
00:45:30look obviously
00:45:30there are some teams
00:45:31there we haven't shown you
00:45:32their goals yet
00:45:33for Arsenal for example
00:45:34who have won tonight
00:45:35and we'll show you
00:45:36those goals very shortly
00:45:37but we thought it
00:45:38important to show you
00:45:39the top 12
00:45:39so that you could see
00:45:41clarify the top eight
00:45:43but also
00:45:44Real Madrid
00:45:45and Inter Milan
00:45:46and Paris Saint-Germain
00:45:47and Newcastle
00:45:48how close they were
00:45:49to the top eight
00:45:50but they go
00:45:51into the playoffs
00:45:53and the draw
00:45:54for the two-legged playoffs
00:45:55is on Friday
00:45:58right then
00:45:58I hope you three
00:45:59are ready to deliver
00:46:00I've just had a sleep
00:46:04I know
00:46:04there are lots of
00:46:05really good stories
00:46:06involving the English clubs
00:46:07but we have to start
00:46:09with that
00:46:09I mean
00:46:10sometimes what you
00:46:11don't need
00:46:12when trying to get
00:46:13all 18 games
00:46:14into a show
00:46:15and work out
00:46:15a running order
00:46:16is a goalkeeper
00:46:17scoring
00:46:18an injury-time
00:46:20well not a winner
00:46:21but an injury-time
00:46:22fourth goal
00:46:22that takes Benfica
00:46:23through to the playoff
00:46:24yeah it was
00:46:25absolutely brilliant
00:46:26I mean we were all
00:46:27up celebrating
00:46:27watching it
00:46:28we were just
00:46:29really in shock
00:46:30to be honest with you
00:46:31but Real Madrid
00:46:32will feel a little bit
00:46:33aggrieved
00:46:34it's Orens here
00:46:35who gets upended
00:46:36by Bellingham
00:46:37or you think he does
00:46:38but when you see
00:46:39the replay here
00:46:40Bellingham actually
00:46:40pinches the ball
00:46:41and there's no foul
00:46:43but Mourinho
00:46:43he says to his
00:46:45goalkeeper Truban
00:46:45you go
00:46:46we'll let two players
00:46:47stay back
00:46:48the ball in from
00:46:49Orens is absolutely
00:46:51unbelievable
00:46:51but the header
00:46:52my words
00:46:54it's absolutely
00:46:55brilliant
00:46:56I mean
00:46:57this is phenomenal
00:46:58and you see the
00:46:59celebrations from everywhere
00:47:01but that is
00:47:01it's such a good header
00:47:03to get up beyond
00:47:04he actually gets above
00:47:06his own man
00:47:06and says like
00:47:07I'm winning this header
00:47:08I mean that picture
00:47:09that is incredible
00:47:10I mean
00:47:11it's not a flick
00:47:12is it
00:47:13it doesn't just
00:47:13hit him and bobble in
00:47:15it is a proper
00:47:17towering header
00:47:17I wish I had that
00:47:18I didn't have that
00:47:19considering the type
00:47:21of the ball
00:47:21that went into the box
00:47:22it's an incredible header
00:47:24and just the
00:47:25just the nature
00:47:26of that moment
00:47:26I think basically
00:47:27every other game
00:47:28had been finished
00:47:29and so you had to do
00:47:30something in this game
00:47:31Truban
00:47:31of course it was Truban
00:47:32Mourinho thought it up
00:47:33didn't he
00:47:34no but that actually is
00:47:35I mean that's a big moment
00:47:36for Mourinho
00:47:37massive
00:47:37going back to Benfica
00:47:39yeah because everything
00:47:40hasn't really worked out
00:47:41for him since he took
00:47:42over Bruno Large
00:47:43back in September
00:47:44they didn't win
00:47:44any of his first two games
00:47:46in the Champions League
00:47:47no wins in four
00:47:48and then
00:47:49to win it that way
00:47:50against Real Madrid
00:47:51the narrative was there
00:47:52against his former club
00:47:53Arbe Loa
00:47:54who he's very much
00:47:55the mentor of
00:47:55he considered him
00:47:56as his son
00:47:57on the other bench
00:47:57and you see here
00:47:59the results
00:48:00pretty incredible
00:48:01he lost at Chelsea
00:48:02yeah he lost against
00:48:04so he took over
00:48:05after the Carabag defeat
00:48:06so Chelsea Newcastle
00:48:07even Bayer Leverkusen
00:48:08at home was a really bad one
00:48:09and we thought that's it
00:48:09they're done
00:48:10losing to Juventus
00:48:11was bad enough
00:48:12but there still was
00:48:13a bit of life in them
00:48:14and we saw that today
00:48:15in that miracle
00:48:16and we will
00:48:18obviously
00:48:19knock Real Madrid
00:48:20into the past
00:48:21which we may have time
00:48:22to talk about
00:48:22a little bit later on
00:48:23and the Portuguese joy
00:48:26continued
00:48:26because Sporting scored
00:48:28with virtually the last
00:48:29kick of their game
00:48:30yeah these Portuguese
00:48:31sides are getting ready
00:48:31for these late goals
00:48:32haven't they
00:48:32deciding where
00:48:33they're going to finish
00:48:34and it was an absolutely
00:48:35brilliant moment for them
00:48:36as well
00:48:36to score so late
00:48:37and think you're defending
00:48:38a corner
00:48:39but the fact is
00:48:39they knew they needed
00:48:40to get a goal
00:48:41so here's the energy
00:48:42look at the sprinting
00:48:42from Suarez here
00:48:43you know this is the
00:48:4494th minute of the game
00:48:45and you're thinking
00:48:46okay can he finish
00:48:47can he finish
00:48:48this is your big moment
00:48:49it's what you've been
00:48:49waiting for
00:48:50well you kind of stumbled
00:48:51it wasn't necessarily
00:48:52the best thing you've ever seen
00:48:53but you follow up
00:48:54you commit all those
00:48:54bodies forward
00:48:55and bang
00:48:56there's your reward
00:48:57away from home
00:48:58scoring a goal like that
00:48:59all the benches
00:48:59run out onto the field
00:49:00and these things
00:49:01just remind you
00:49:02how exciting football can be
00:49:03you want to give the
00:49:04sporting goalkeeper
00:49:05some credit there
00:49:06as well
00:49:06because it was a
00:49:06perfectly thrown ball
00:49:08you don't have to give
00:49:08goalkeepers credit
00:49:09well
00:49:09a number of times
00:49:11you see throwouts
00:49:12and it bobbles out
00:49:13or it does it
00:49:13but that was perfect
00:49:15it's brilliant
00:49:15yeah I mean
00:49:16to have that vision
00:49:16and to have the execution
00:49:17and to make
00:49:18pull it off
00:49:19but then it's about
00:49:19the bodies going forward
00:49:21as well
00:49:21and making sure
00:49:22like Nerham says
00:49:23there at the end
00:49:23that you finish it
00:49:24it's a great finish as well
00:49:25because he actually
00:49:26stumbles himself there
00:49:27Santos
00:49:27as he goes to
00:49:28control the ball
00:49:29sort of sets himself
00:49:31and brilliance
00:49:32it's quite good
00:49:33I don't want to go down
00:49:35the route at the moment
00:49:36of how many English teams
00:49:37are in the top 8
00:49:38but it's quite good
00:49:38for the competition
00:49:39that a team like sporting
00:49:41are in the top 8
00:49:42isn't it
00:49:42yeah we were always
00:49:43looking at the start
00:49:43of the season
00:49:44who could be the
00:49:44support package
00:49:45who could be the
00:49:46underdogs doing well
00:49:47and I don't think
00:49:48any of us had them
00:49:49but they've done really well
00:49:50since Wuban Amorim
00:49:51left the club last year
00:49:52especially under this manager
00:49:53they've signed good players
00:49:55they beat PSG last week
00:49:56plus this win there
00:49:57those 6 points
00:49:58make the difference
00:49:59let's get on to
00:50:00the English teams then
00:50:01you were paying
00:50:02particular attention
00:50:03to Napoli
00:50:04against Chelsea
00:50:05they rode their luck
00:50:06a little bit at times
00:50:07did Chelsea
00:50:08but João Pedro
00:50:10had not carried them through
00:50:11but was instrumental
00:50:12yeah he had two
00:50:12very very big moments
00:50:13and I think it's no surprise
00:50:14that those moments
00:50:15came alongside
00:50:15Cole Palmer there as well
00:50:16and I think the way
00:50:18that Cole Palmer himself
00:50:19linked up in the second half
00:50:19was very good
00:50:20Palmer coming on at half time
00:50:21did make a difference
00:50:22like let's be honest
00:50:23the pass from Palmer
00:50:23isn't the best in the world there
00:50:25but for João Pedro himself
00:50:27his sort of unpredictability
00:50:28but then the quality
00:50:29and the finish
00:50:30that's on his weaker foot
00:50:31that's as good a strike
00:50:32as you'll see anywhere
00:50:33but he always fancies
00:50:34his chances with that
00:50:35and with this here
00:50:35it's a nice set
00:50:36and goal
00:50:37it's a great way
00:50:38to pass for João Pedro
00:50:39and now the defender's
00:50:40got to make a decision
00:50:41João Pedro understands that
00:50:42bides his time
00:50:43picks the right option
00:50:44and it's an incredible finish
00:50:45it's an important result
00:50:47isn't it
00:50:47for Liam Rossini
00:50:48yeah it's a huge result
00:50:50away from home
00:50:50Napoli
00:50:51I know they've got
00:50:51a lot of injuries
00:50:52they've not been great
00:50:54in Europe under Conte
00:50:55but to go to Napoli
00:50:56and get a result
00:50:57needing a result
00:50:59is huge for him
00:51:00and his confidence
00:51:00and probably the subs
00:51:02that he made as well
00:51:03were vitally important
00:51:04throughout the game
00:51:05and he's had this sort of
00:51:07strange start
00:51:07to his Chelsea career
00:51:08in the sense
00:51:09not in the sense
00:51:10of what he's achieved
00:51:11but just how varied
00:51:12his start has been
00:51:14in all the different competitions
00:51:16but he would have
00:51:16probably taken that
00:51:17at the start
00:51:18yeah I agree
00:51:19the only game really
00:51:20where they struggled
00:51:21against Arsenal at home
00:51:22where they could have
00:51:23considered five
00:51:23against Brentford
00:51:24but they're not out of it
00:51:25no no I have there
00:51:26before the second leg
00:51:27at the Emirates
00:51:27Brentford
00:51:28they were probably
00:51:29not the better team
00:51:30but they rode their luck
00:51:30and they won
00:51:31but he's rotating a lot
00:51:33he's building something
00:51:34I think he needs
00:51:35a bit more time
00:51:36but to start with
00:51:37four games
00:51:37in four different competitions
00:51:39like he did
00:51:39I don't think
00:51:40it's easy as well
00:51:41but he has to rotate
00:51:42doesn't he
00:51:42at the moment
00:51:43partly because of the number
00:51:44of different competitions
00:51:46they're in
00:51:46and partly
00:51:46as he tries to get
00:51:47an understanding
00:51:48of some of the players
00:51:49that he's got
00:51:50well what I would say
00:51:50is he doesn't necessarily
00:51:51have to
00:51:52I think we've seen
00:51:53some managers
00:51:53who come in and decide
00:51:54these are the bunch
00:51:55of players that I trust
00:51:56but it is good
00:51:57that he is doing that
00:51:58I think for some
00:51:58of those players now
00:51:59they'll probably think
00:51:59every time they play
00:52:00it's almost an audition
00:52:01and with those results
00:52:02in mind
00:52:03it seems like
00:52:03it's a strong start
00:52:04as well
00:52:05Speaking of strong
00:52:07performances
00:52:08Spurs
00:52:09never in doubt
00:52:11trust in Spurs
00:52:13they have done
00:52:14very well
00:52:15in this competition
00:52:16they've done brilliant
00:52:17I think there'll have been
00:52:18a little bit of a feeling
00:52:19of we've been here before
00:52:20in terms of going to
00:52:22Frankfurt
00:52:22and getting a result
00:52:23so there'd be a lot
00:52:24of confidence within that
00:52:25but we spoke about it
00:52:26on the show last week
00:52:27when Rory Smith was on
00:52:28and we were saying that
00:52:29it suits the English teams
00:52:31because all the teams
00:52:32want to have a go
00:52:33in the Champions League
00:52:34competition
00:52:34so in the Premier League
00:52:35Spurs struggle to beat
00:52:37teams that sit back
00:52:38Frankfurt as bad as they are
00:52:39they still have a go
00:52:41and they want to commit
00:52:42players forward
00:52:42So the way that
00:52:44Tottenham have been
00:52:45playing primarily
00:52:46of sitting
00:52:47defending
00:52:48and waiting to hit
00:52:49on the counter attack
00:52:50Yeah but also teams
00:52:51within the Premier League
00:52:52as well
00:52:53are sitting back
00:52:54and they find it
00:52:54difficult to break them down
00:52:56so they actually struggle
00:52:57in both sides of the game
00:52:58but when it opens up
00:53:00that actually suits them
00:53:01So what did you see
00:53:02today then
00:53:03in how they played
00:53:04and what they did?
00:53:05Well the clinical
00:53:06and that was the most
00:53:07important thing
00:53:07when you're looking
00:53:08to score goals
00:53:09away from home
00:53:09you've got to be clinical
00:53:10and Colin Mawani
00:53:12here does extremely well
00:53:14because what you do need
00:53:15is you need your striker
00:53:16in the middle of the
00:53:17the penalty area
00:53:18to get you goals
00:53:19and credit to Romero
00:53:20he is a threat
00:53:21from set pieces
00:53:22that back post header
00:53:24it's such a sensible header
00:53:25smart header
00:53:26not trying to score
00:53:27the goal himself
00:53:28but he's just trying
00:53:29to put it back in
00:53:29and hoping
00:53:30that's where his striker is
00:53:31it's a scruffy finish
00:53:32but it doesn't matter
00:53:33that's the type of finish
00:53:34that you want
00:53:35and then they get
00:53:36Dominic Solanke on
00:53:37this is a really poor header
00:53:39but Solanke shows
00:53:40that turn of pace
00:53:41against Robin Cock
00:53:42gets him behind
00:53:43it's a brilliant finish
00:53:44no thought process
00:53:46just wants to put
00:53:47his laces through it
00:53:47wants to go across
00:53:48the goalkeeper
00:53:49and I think he's
00:53:51the type of player
00:53:52that Thomas Frank
00:53:52needs in his team
00:53:53needs him fit
00:53:55on a more consistent basis
00:53:56and I think the results
00:53:58will pick up
00:53:58with Dominic Solanke
00:53:59in the team
00:54:00do you think
00:54:01I mean
00:54:02their performances
00:54:03in the Champions League
00:54:05and the teams
00:54:05that they have played
00:54:07and Paris Saint-Germain
00:54:08and Borussia Dortmund
00:54:09may be the two hardest
00:54:10that they have
00:54:11they were brilliant
00:54:12in that Paris Saint-Germain
00:54:13they were
00:54:13they were absolutely superb
00:54:15in that game as well
00:54:16which is odd to highlight
00:54:17because they've only
00:54:18conceded in two games
00:54:20and they've conceded
00:54:21five of them in that
00:54:22but it is odd
00:54:23because they gave
00:54:23as good as they got
00:54:24in that game
00:54:25absolutely
00:54:25and I mean
00:54:26we knew at the start
00:54:27after the draw
00:54:28that they had a good schedule
00:54:29and good fixtures
00:54:30to be fair
00:54:31but still
00:54:32to beat Dortmund
00:54:33like they did
00:54:33ok 11 against 10 men
00:54:35last week
00:54:35was a big win for him
00:54:36especially under the pressure
00:54:37that he was
00:54:38let's not forget
00:54:38they went through this
00:54:39fixture list
00:54:41under massive pressure
00:54:42for Thomas Frank
00:54:42that was at times
00:54:44very uncertain
00:54:44by his own future
00:54:45so to have managed
00:54:46that really well
00:54:47and finished top 8
00:54:47is a great achievement
00:54:49so they're through
00:54:50Newcastle drop into
00:54:51the players
00:54:52they fall out of the top 8
00:54:53as do Paris Saint-Germain
00:54:54and he changed things up
00:54:56a bit didn't he
00:54:57anyhow
00:54:57he changed his formation
00:54:58and yet
00:54:59after a sticky first half
00:55:01they had chances
00:55:02to win it
00:55:02yeah they really did
00:55:04he went to a 3-4-3
00:55:05and they struggled
00:55:06I'd say for the first
00:55:0715-20 minutes
00:55:08to adapt to the system
00:55:10but leaving Anthony Gordon
00:55:12and Harvey Barnes
00:55:13on the bench
00:55:13it almost felt like
00:55:14he was going to contain
00:55:15for as long as he could
00:55:17and then he was going to
00:55:18get these two guys on
00:55:19and when they came on
00:55:20that pacing behind
00:55:22he stretched the game
00:55:23this was an absolutely
00:55:24brilliant run
00:55:25from Anthony Gordon
00:55:25but watch this from
00:55:26Harvey Barnes
00:55:27the overlapping run
00:55:28just catches Paris Saint-Germain
00:55:30out
00:55:30lovely flick
00:55:31it's a really clever
00:55:32strike from Harvey Barnes
00:55:33he's just unfortunate
00:55:34that he can't cut across it
00:55:36quite enough
00:55:37to get it in that far corner
00:55:38but then
00:55:39this is the moment
00:55:40that he'll be thinking
00:55:41about all night
00:55:42Harvey Barnes
00:55:43he'll probably be thinking
00:55:44about it for weeks
00:55:45as it comes to him here
00:55:48Julian's saying
00:55:48that there's a lot
00:55:50of spin on the ball
00:55:51there is
00:55:51look at the ball
00:55:52yeah and listen
00:55:53there's spin on the ball
00:55:54but Harvey Barnes
00:55:54is a quality player
00:55:55he's good enough
00:55:56and he just loses
00:55:57his balance
00:55:58he doesn't read it
00:55:59quick enough
00:55:59that's a brilliant opportunity
00:56:01and Newcastle
00:56:02could have pinched it
00:56:03I say pinched it
00:56:04second half performance
00:56:05absolutely superb
00:56:07but they were grateful
00:56:09for a penalty save
00:56:10in the first half
00:56:11from Nip
00:56:11yeah they were
00:56:12I mean this was
00:56:13like what
00:56:14first couple of minutes
00:56:15first minute of the game
00:56:17Miley gets caught out
00:56:18here
00:56:19with Barcola
00:56:20in behind
00:56:21and then it just ricochets
00:56:22I think this is
00:56:23very very unfortunate
00:56:24the fact that it hits
00:56:25Barcola
00:56:25then Miley hits it
00:56:27I think it's just
00:56:28a natural
00:56:28he's out of control
00:56:30the way he's running
00:56:30and that's so unlucky
00:56:32but sometimes
00:56:33you need your goalkeeper
00:56:35to help you out
00:56:35get you out of jail
00:56:36a little bit
00:56:37this is a brilliant save
00:56:38from Nick Pope
00:56:39full stretch
00:56:41superb
00:56:41but then it gives
00:56:42a little bit of belief
00:56:43into the Newcastle team
00:56:44do you think
00:56:45because he sort of
00:56:46swiped it
00:56:47that makes it look
00:56:48as though it didn't
00:56:48just hit him
00:56:52honestly
00:56:52I don't think
00:56:53he's intended to do it
00:56:54but the fact is
00:56:55from when it hits him
00:56:55literally in the palm of his hand
00:56:57you're going to think
00:56:57to yourself
00:56:58it's a penalty
00:56:58that look you gave me
00:57:00then was very much
00:57:00no I don't think
00:57:01that Mark
00:57:02I completely
00:57:03and utterly
00:57:04disagree with you
00:57:05Paris Saint-Germain
00:57:06have found themselves
00:57:06in this same position
00:57:08that they did last year
00:57:09they worked last year
00:57:10so
00:57:10oh is that
00:57:11right
00:57:12okay
00:57:13incredible
00:57:14they'll be kicking
00:57:16themselves there
00:57:16two points
00:57:17in the last three games
00:57:18this is it
00:57:18a draw
00:57:19Bilbao 0-0
00:57:20the defeat
00:57:21against
00:57:21Sporting
00:57:22last weekend
00:57:22last week
00:57:23sorry
00:57:23and then this draw again
00:57:24it's just not good enough
00:57:25they had chances
00:57:26they didn't take them
00:57:27and after that
00:57:27it was very stale
00:57:28very sideways
00:57:30no perforation
00:57:31nothing to go into
00:57:32the very well organised
00:57:33defence from Newcastle
00:57:34and they didn't deserve
00:57:35to win tonight
00:57:36very comfortable
00:57:36for Liverpool
00:57:37tonight
00:57:37yeah
00:57:38I think there's
00:57:39still a little bit
00:57:40of pressure on Arnaz
00:57:41to get a good result
00:57:42and a convincing result
00:57:43tonight
00:57:44I think there was a feeling
00:57:45that it would be comfortable
00:57:46and it turned out that way
00:57:48and I think when you look
00:57:49at Eketike
00:57:49and what he's doing
00:57:50at Liverpool
00:57:51I mean he's the star
00:57:52signing this year
00:57:53isn't it
00:57:53I mean it's been incredible
00:57:55his start to life
00:57:56at Anfield
00:57:56and the way
00:57:57he's scoring goals
00:58:00at will
00:58:00he's not only scoring
00:58:02but he's also
00:58:02assisting as well
00:58:03I mean he's
00:58:04he's so direct
00:58:05but then it's the presence
00:58:07of mind to pit the right pass
00:58:08Florian Wirtz
00:58:09is obviously
00:58:10starting to show up now
00:58:11and starting to show
00:58:12his quality
00:58:13but this was the goal
00:58:13of the night
00:58:14for Eketike
00:58:15lovely touch
00:58:16round the defender
00:58:16then a little prod through
00:58:17and then the composure
00:58:19I don't think we saw this
00:58:21when Liverpool
00:58:22signed him
00:58:22I think when he was
00:58:23at Stuttgart
00:58:24it was a little bit
00:58:24a little bit raw
00:58:25from him
00:58:27but he suddenly found
00:58:28the composure
00:58:29a massive confidence
00:58:30within himself as well
00:58:31top performance
00:58:33Jules?
00:58:34Yeah
00:58:34outstanding the way
00:58:35he's adapted
00:58:35I know sometimes
00:58:36he's a little bit chaotic
00:58:37because he wants to go forward
00:58:39straight away
00:58:40and that will improve
00:58:41but he's been outstanding
00:58:42and should make the world come
00:58:44Do you think it helps
00:58:45that he knows
00:58:46in the main
00:58:46he's the man at the moment?
00:58:48I think there's a bit of that
00:58:49and also his relationship
00:58:50with Vietz
00:58:51I think he is very important
00:58:52I know Salah scored tonight
00:58:53but this is becoming
00:58:54very much
00:58:55the Eketike Vietz team
00:58:57And finally
00:58:58Manchester City
00:58:58who sort of
00:58:59did enough?
00:59:01Yeah
00:59:01I think that's fair to say
00:59:02I want to say more
00:59:04but what they did
00:59:05I think a game
00:59:06against Galatasaray
00:59:07which could have been
00:59:07quite tricky
00:59:08if they offered
00:59:08lots of errors
00:59:09instead it was the opposite
00:59:10because they managed
00:59:11to get that two goal
00:59:12lead into that first half
00:59:13and I think Doku today
00:59:14was like a big part of that
00:59:15and I think it's disappointing
00:59:16in some ways
00:59:16that he had to come off injured
00:59:17but what I liked in the game
00:59:19was the fact that
00:59:19sometimes he was narrow
00:59:20but what a great pass
00:59:22this is for Erling Haaland
00:59:23instead of him thinking
00:59:24I'm just going to need
00:59:25to take somebody on
00:59:25he plays that true ball
00:59:27on Haaland there
00:59:27looks like a guy
00:59:29that's scoring every single week
00:59:30instead of one
00:59:30that's not scored in turn
00:59:31so this was a big moment
00:59:33for the game
00:59:33big moment for City
00:59:34and I think it kind of
00:59:35forced Galatasaray back
00:59:36but again with Doku
00:59:37in this particular game
00:59:39he's finding different types
00:59:40of space
00:59:40but he's looking for the end product
00:59:41it's a great stop by Cherki
00:59:43to find the space
00:59:43such
00:59:44and did you ever doubt
00:59:45him in that position
00:59:46absolutely not
00:59:47so Doku was really clever
00:59:49in the day
00:59:49some of his dribbling
00:59:50his hard work
00:59:51and so on
00:59:51but best of all
00:59:52we always want to talk
00:59:53about our wingers
00:59:54with end product
00:59:55and in those two moments
00:59:56there
00:59:57they were massive
00:59:57for this game
00:59:58but unfortunately
00:59:59as I say
00:59:59he had to come off
01:00:00in the game
01:00:01and this was midway
01:00:02through the first half
01:00:02and when he starts
01:00:03to find his form
01:00:04after having been out
01:00:05not too long ago
01:00:06I think it's going
01:00:07to be disappointing
01:00:07because I think at times
01:00:08he can be the ex-factor
01:00:09for City
01:00:09his decision making
01:00:10has got so much better
01:00:11hasn't it
01:00:12and that's the big thing
01:00:13is he's always had
01:00:14that ability
01:00:14and that ability
01:00:15to beat players
01:00:16and sometimes
01:00:17as a full back
01:00:18you'd actually think
01:00:19sometimes I can let him
01:00:20get to the line
01:00:21because I know the quality
01:00:21is not going to quite be there
01:00:22but now that quality
01:00:24and that decision making
01:00:25has improved tenfold
01:00:26I know they have
01:00:27an awful lot of options
01:00:28don't they there
01:00:29in those players
01:00:30who could be behind Haaland
01:00:32whether it's Foden
01:00:33or Cherky
01:00:34or Semenyo
01:00:35or Marmouche
01:00:37but it still feels like
01:00:39if Doku is out for a bit
01:00:40that's a big blow
01:00:41because ideally
01:00:41what would you want
01:00:42Doku one side
01:00:43and Semenyo the other
01:00:44yeah I think so
01:00:44but as we've seen
01:00:45from today's game
01:00:47Semenyo and Gehi
01:00:48couldn't play
01:00:48so they couldn't necessarily
01:00:50continue to the ground
01:00:51running like they say
01:00:52Semenyo had done
01:00:53in recent weeks
01:00:54but going into the knockouts
01:00:55that does give them
01:00:56a different type of option
01:00:57but I think the dynamism
01:00:58that the manager might want
01:00:59if you can have Doku
01:01:00and Semenyo
01:01:02it does become
01:01:02a little bit lopsided
01:01:03but ultimately
01:01:04injuries happen
01:01:05you've got to find a way
01:01:06okay take a rest
01:01:07now that was a long chat
01:01:09all the drama
01:01:10lower down the table
01:01:11on the way
01:01:11first let's show you
01:01:12the goals from
01:01:13top of the table
01:01:13Arsenal against
01:01:14bottom of the table
01:01:15Cairo
01:01:22Tavac threads that one
01:01:23through beautifully
01:01:24and Jokeres takes it
01:01:25and he's striding
01:01:26gets the shot away
01:01:27and Arsenal in front
01:01:28inside two minutes
01:01:30Jokeres starts tonight
01:01:32as he finished
01:01:33in Italy
01:01:34a week ago
01:01:35with a sumptuous finish
01:01:40Calafiore
01:01:41got himself
01:01:41in a bit of a tangle
01:01:42momentarily
01:01:44Schneider
01:01:44has been encouraged
01:01:46to go and have a look
01:01:47for himself
01:01:49it does look pretty
01:01:50conclusive
01:01:51that Calafiore
01:01:52grabs hold
01:01:53of the back
01:01:53of Jorginho's jersey
01:01:55Cairo have the perfect
01:01:57opportunity
01:01:58to draw level
01:01:59at the Emirates
01:02:01Jorginho
01:02:02and it's 1-1
01:02:03delight for these
01:02:04Cairo players
01:02:05who could not really
01:02:07have imagined
01:02:08themselves
01:02:08scoring here
01:02:10against the mighty
01:02:11Arsenal
01:02:14looks on the chase
01:02:15Jokeres is with him
01:02:16Havertz takes over
01:02:17will he go for goal
01:02:19here he will
01:02:19and he'll find
01:02:20the back of the net
01:02:21on his return
01:02:23to the starting
01:02:25line-up
01:02:25for the first time
01:02:27in nearly a year
01:02:28Kai Havertz
01:02:29who set up the first
01:02:30scores the second
01:02:33White
01:02:34Norgaard
01:02:35Havertz is in
01:02:36puts it on a plate
01:02:37for Jokeres
01:02:38but the flag is up
01:02:40Jokeres and Martinelli
01:02:42had a stab at that
01:02:46it stands
01:02:47it's 3-1 Arsenal
01:02:49Martinelli got the
01:02:50final touch
01:02:50Havertz certainly
01:02:52onside
01:02:52and then
01:02:53as he knocks
01:02:53this across
01:02:54Jokeres was
01:02:55level with him
01:02:56Martinelli
01:02:57has his 6th goal
01:02:58of the campaign
01:03:02here's Kurgan
01:03:06across his deep
01:03:07and it's headed
01:03:08home at the
01:03:08back post
01:03:09by Ricardinho
01:03:10well the final
01:03:11word tonight
01:03:13is for the
01:03:14champions
01:03:15of Kazakhstan
01:03:19so Jules
01:03:19as far as
01:03:20Arsenal are concerned
01:03:21played 8-1-8
01:03:22finished top
01:03:24and the most
01:03:24important thing
01:03:25now is that
01:03:25this year
01:03:26that means you
01:03:27are guaranteed
01:03:28your home leg
01:03:30second
01:03:30the second leg
01:03:31at home
01:03:32all the way
01:03:32through to the
01:03:33semi-finals
01:03:33all the way
01:03:34from the last
01:03:3416
01:03:35and if they
01:03:36qualify
01:03:36quarter-final
01:03:37semi-final
01:03:37potentially
01:03:38which is massive
01:03:38which was not
01:03:39the case
01:03:39last season
01:03:40for example
01:03:42but I think
01:03:43it makes a
01:03:43massive difference
01:03:44it was another
01:03:44incentive for you
01:03:45to try to finish
01:03:46in the top two
01:03:46and off the back
01:03:48of what happened
01:03:48to them at the
01:03:49weekend
01:03:49and all the
01:03:50talk of nerves
01:03:50I know it was
01:03:51the side who
01:03:51were bottom
01:03:51of the Champions
01:03:52League
01:03:52but they finished
01:03:54their Champions
01:03:54League
01:03:55with a 100%
01:03:56record
01:03:57don't be nervous
01:03:58no
01:04:00it's a great
01:04:01achievement
01:04:02isn't it
01:04:02I mean they
01:04:03should have
01:04:03completed that
01:04:04tonight and got
01:04:04the job done
01:04:05and they did it
01:04:06but the way
01:04:07they've gone
01:04:08about the
01:04:08business
01:04:08in the first
01:04:10half of the
01:04:10Champions League
01:04:11stages
01:04:11it was almost
01:04:12like let's get
01:04:13the job done
01:04:14quickly
01:04:14and the confidence
01:04:15from that
01:04:16has just built
01:04:16and built
01:04:17and built
01:04:17we saw it
01:04:18last year
01:04:19though
01:04:19Liverpool
01:04:19topped the
01:04:20group
01:04:20comfortably
01:04:21and then got
01:04:22a very difficult
01:04:23draw against
01:04:24Paris Saint-Germain
01:04:25there's going
01:04:25to be some
01:04:25tough games
01:04:26in this
01:04:26later stages
01:04:27and another
01:04:28positive for them
01:04:28they have Kai Havertz
01:04:30they're starting
01:04:30to introduce
01:04:31Kai Havertz back
01:04:32so they've got
01:04:32all three of
01:04:33their number
01:04:34nines available
01:04:35for them
01:04:36yeah absolutely
01:04:37it's a big
01:04:38boost
01:04:38him being out
01:04:39for so long
01:04:39same for
01:04:39Gabriel Jesus
01:04:40and now for
01:04:41Artetti
01:04:41has real
01:04:41significant
01:04:42options
01:04:42and I
01:04:42personally
01:04:43thought Havertz
01:04:43when he was
01:04:44fit previously
01:04:44he was a big
01:04:45part of why
01:04:46Arsenal were
01:04:46successful
01:04:47would he be
01:04:47your first
01:04:48of the three
01:04:48or does it
01:04:49depend on the
01:04:50opposition
01:04:50I think it
01:04:50must depend on
01:04:51the opposition
01:04:51to be honest
01:04:52sometimes if
01:04:52you want
01:04:52someone like
01:04:53Jokeres to
01:04:53throw someone
01:04:54to the ground
01:04:54like that
01:04:54but you know
01:04:56I think they've
01:04:57all got a sense
01:04:57of physicality
01:04:58about them
01:04:58I think Havertz
01:04:59leads the line
01:05:00in a sort of
01:05:00different sort of
01:05:01way
01:05:01so if it ends up
01:05:02being that he
01:05:03does it for
01:05:03Artetti
01:05:04in any particular
01:05:04game
01:05:04great if it
01:05:05doesn't work
01:05:05someone else
01:05:06can come on
01:05:06off the bench
01:05:07now one of the
01:05:09stories of this
01:05:09Champions League
01:05:10season could be
01:05:11Bodo Glimt
01:05:12their heroics
01:05:13last week gave
01:05:14them an outside
01:05:14chance of the
01:05:15playoffs
01:05:16if they could win
01:05:17away to
01:05:17Atletico Madrid
01:05:22everybody required
01:05:22back there for
01:05:23Bodo Glimt
01:05:24here is
01:05:24Julian Alvarez
01:05:26scored in all
01:05:27three of their
01:05:28home games in
01:05:28the league
01:05:28face so far
01:05:29Hansko's ball
01:05:30in towards
01:05:31Sola
01:05:31rising
01:05:32and this
01:05:33time scoring
01:05:35and it's the
01:05:36Norwegian
01:05:36against
01:05:37Bodo Glimt
01:05:40making in goal
01:05:41flung himself
01:05:42to his right
01:05:43got a hand
01:05:44on it
01:05:44but could only
01:05:45help it in
01:05:47Rente's there
01:05:48to try and
01:05:48prevent that
01:05:49final pass
01:05:49reaching its
01:05:50intended
01:05:51destination
01:05:52there's still
01:05:53work to do
01:05:54watch that
01:05:55Fett again
01:05:56not giving
01:05:56this one up
01:05:57well he's
01:05:58done really
01:05:59well
01:05:59Bjorkan in
01:06:00support
01:06:00provides the
01:06:01cross
01:06:01and the
01:06:01finish is
01:06:02there
01:06:02and
01:06:03Chauval
01:06:04Bodo
01:06:05Glimt
01:06:05to level
01:06:06well even
01:06:07after going
01:06:08behind
01:06:08in a
01:06:09must win
01:06:10match
01:06:10they never
01:06:12let their
01:06:12heads drop
01:06:13Atleti
01:06:14have plenty
01:06:15back
01:06:15and just
01:06:16didn't
01:06:16track the
01:06:17run
01:06:17of
01:06:18Frederik
01:06:18Chauval
01:06:23Bjorkan
01:06:23big
01:06:24oh he's
01:06:25still going
01:06:26and he
01:06:26tried to
01:06:27pick the
01:06:27pass
01:06:27for Hu
01:06:28at the
01:06:28end
01:06:28of it
01:06:28Evian's
01:06:29in there
01:06:29instead
01:06:29a block
01:06:30with the
01:06:31save
01:06:31and he
01:06:33couldn't
01:06:33quite
01:06:33get the
01:06:34shot
01:06:34away
01:06:34he
01:06:34does
01:06:35though
01:06:35oh
01:06:36incredible
01:06:37Kasper
01:06:38Hu
01:06:38the
01:06:39Bodo
01:06:40Glimt
01:06:40what a
01:06:42scramble
01:06:42but
01:06:43what a
01:06:43moment
01:06:44and they're
01:06:45daring to
01:06:45dream that
01:06:46this adventure
01:06:47might yet
01:06:47continue
01:06:49Atletico
01:06:49had chances
01:06:50to get
01:06:51that away
01:06:51and they
01:06:52paid a
01:06:53heavy price
01:06:53here
01:06:55might be one
01:06:56of the worst
01:06:56winning goals
01:06:57you've ever
01:06:58seen
01:06:58take it
01:06:59all day
01:07:00they will
01:07:01take it
01:07:02and what a
01:07:02story that
01:07:03is
01:07:03incredible
01:07:04I mean we
01:07:04talked about
01:07:05sporting
01:07:05the other
01:07:06great story
01:07:06but this
01:07:07is even
01:07:08probably
01:07:08more of a
01:07:09fairy tale
01:07:09of football
01:07:10they played
01:07:10in Europa
01:07:10League last
01:07:11year and
01:07:11did well
01:07:11and Spurs
01:07:12knocked them
01:07:12out
01:07:13they beat
01:07:13Roma 6-1
01:07:14but to
01:07:15beat
01:07:16City last
01:07:16week at
01:07:17home on
01:07:17the plastic
01:07:18pitch
01:07:19right by
01:07:19the very
01:07:20north of
01:07:21Norway
01:07:21and then to
01:07:22follow that
01:07:23up by going
01:07:23to Madrid
01:07:24at the
01:07:24Metropolitano
01:07:25and beat
01:07:25Atletico like
01:07:26they did
01:07:26being 1-0
01:07:27down
01:07:27and getting a
01:07:28bit lucky
01:07:29through it
01:07:30but still
01:07:31they're
01:07:31incredible
01:07:32they drew
01:07:32against Spurs
01:07:33they should
01:07:33have won
01:07:33they lost
01:07:34to Monaco
01:07:34they should
01:07:34have won
01:07:35so they
01:07:35were unlucky
01:07:35but no
01:07:36wins in
01:07:36their first
01:07:37six games
01:07:38in the
01:07:38Champions League
01:07:38and then
01:07:39two wins
01:07:39two and
01:07:40that's it
01:07:40incredible
01:07:41and so
01:07:41they are in
01:07:42the playoffs
01:07:43couple of
01:07:43other games
01:07:44to clear up
01:07:44before we
01:07:45focus more
01:07:45on the
01:07:46bottom end
01:07:46of the
01:07:47table
01:07:47and Atalanta
01:07:48were another
01:07:49side on
01:07:4913 points
01:07:50they needed
01:07:50a big win
01:07:51and events
01:07:52elsewhere to
01:07:53go their way
01:07:53when they
01:07:54faced Union
01:07:55Saint-Gilles
01:07:55Wales
01:07:56the host
01:07:56coming into
01:07:57this match
01:07:58winless in
01:07:58their last
01:07:59seven against
01:08:00Italian
01:08:01sides
01:08:01things were
01:08:02different this
01:08:03time round
01:08:04that was
01:08:05Anand Kaleili
01:08:06scoring the
01:08:07winner
01:08:07midway through
01:08:08the second
01:08:09half
01:08:09they go out
01:08:11though
01:08:11De'Uni and
01:08:12Saint-Gilles
01:08:12was Atalanta
01:08:13into the
01:08:15playoffs
01:08:15despite that
01:08:16defeat
01:08:17now Borussia
01:08:18Dortmund
01:08:19faced Inter
01:08:20with both
01:08:20sides knowing
01:08:21they needed
01:08:21to win
01:08:21and hope
01:08:22lots of
01:08:22other things
01:08:22went their
01:08:23way above
01:08:23them to
01:08:24make the
01:08:24top eight
01:08:25the game
01:08:26was goalless
01:08:27at half
01:08:27time and
01:08:28in fact it
01:08:28stayed
01:08:29goalless
01:08:29until the
01:08:3080th minute
01:08:31and then
01:08:32Federico
01:08:32Di Marco
01:08:33broke the
01:08:34deadlock
01:08:34for Inter
01:08:34with that
01:08:35free kick
01:08:36at one
01:08:36point they
01:08:37were in
01:08:37the top
01:08:38eight
01:08:38but Chelsea
01:08:39and Sporting
01:08:40Lisbon
01:08:41changed that
01:08:42Andy
01:08:43Juve
01:08:43getting the
01:08:44second for
01:08:44Inter
01:08:45deep into
01:08:45injury time
01:08:46but those
01:08:47three defeats
01:08:48in a row
01:08:48prior to
01:08:49tonight
01:08:49proved
01:08:50costly
01:08:51for the
01:08:52Italians
01:08:53they are
01:08:54in
01:08:54the
01:08:54playoffs
01:08:56we've
01:08:57still got
01:08:57seven games
01:08:58to show
01:08:58you on
01:08:59the other
01:08:59side of
01:09:00this
01:09:09so
01:09:11you want
01:09:12me to
01:09:12tell you
01:09:15how to
01:09:16become
01:09:16a champion
01:09:20in
01:09:21Milan
01:09:24watch
01:09:25and you
01:09:26will see
01:09:32brilliant
01:09:32let's focus
01:09:33on matters
01:09:33at the other
01:09:34end of the
01:09:35table then
01:09:35and Patrick
01:09:36Geary can
01:09:36take us
01:09:37through three
01:09:38games starting
01:09:39with a pivotal
01:09:39meeting between
01:09:40Club Bruges
01:09:41and Marseille
01:09:46hundreds of
01:09:47years ago
01:09:47visitors came
01:09:48to Bruges
01:09:49to trade
01:09:49Marseille
01:09:50came intending
01:09:51to conquer
01:09:51a win against
01:09:52Club Bruges
01:09:53would take them
01:09:54into the playoffs
01:09:54for Bruges
01:09:55hopes were more
01:09:56remote
01:09:57but the Belgians
01:09:58very clearly
01:09:59still believe
01:10:03Stankovic
01:10:05very much
01:10:06key
01:10:06little layoff
01:10:07there
01:10:07it's a good
01:10:07early chance
01:10:08blocked by
01:10:09really in it
01:10:09it's it
01:10:10and
01:10:10Bruce
01:10:11are ahead
01:10:12Club Bruges
01:10:13one
01:10:13Marseille
01:10:14nil
01:10:15the goalkeeper
01:10:17has not
01:10:17covered himself
01:10:18in glory
01:10:19there
01:10:19at all
01:10:24doing really
01:10:25well here
01:10:25Club Bruges
01:10:26from the start
01:10:26it's a dangerous
01:10:27cross
01:10:27it is two
01:10:28swept in
01:10:29brilliantly
01:10:30by Romeo
01:10:31Vermant
01:10:31Bruges
01:10:32to Marseille
01:10:33nil
01:10:35that's a
01:10:36brilliant goal
01:10:36that really
01:10:37is a
01:10:38wonderful
01:10:39strike
01:10:43that's a
01:10:44good ball
01:10:44played out
01:10:45for Carlos
01:10:45Forbes
01:10:46he's all
01:10:46alone
01:10:47can he

01:17:43close
01:17:46show you the
01:17:47teams that have been
01:17:48eliminated
01:17:48there are some big
01:17:49European names there
01:17:51Marseille have gone
01:17:52thanks to that late
01:17:53Benfica winner
01:17:55PSV Athletic Club
01:17:57as well
01:17:57they started
01:17:58tonight in the
01:17:59playoff places
01:17:59but they have gone
01:18:01after defeats to
01:18:01Bayern and
01:18:02Sporting
01:18:03and Napoli
01:18:04have also
01:18:05bowed out
01:18:05Antonio Conte side
01:18:07eventually
01:18:08finishing
01:18:1030th
01:18:10so let's
01:18:11show you
01:18:12the
01:18:13potential
01:18:14games
01:18:14in the
01:18:14knockout
01:18:15stages
01:18:15and the
01:18:16draw is
01:18:16Friday morning
01:18:1811am
01:18:18which you'll be
01:18:19able to watch
01:18:20it on
01:18:21the iPlayer
01:18:22so
01:18:25what stands out
01:18:26for the
01:18:26English clubs
01:18:27here really
01:18:27and that's
01:18:28Newcastle
01:18:28in the
01:18:29playoffs
01:18:29they're
01:18:29paired with
01:18:30PSG
01:18:30which means
01:18:31those two
01:18:31will get
01:18:32either
01:18:32Monaco
01:18:32or
01:18:33Carabaugh
01:18:34Stephen
01:18:35in the
01:18:36playoff
01:18:36part
01:18:37I think
01:18:38they'll both
01:18:38be happy
01:18:38with that
01:18:39I think
01:18:39it's kind
01:18:40to Newcastle
01:18:42we're looking
01:18:42at it from
01:18:42an English
01:18:43point of view
01:18:43we're not
01:18:44going to jump
01:18:44on Jules
01:18:45bandwagon
01:18:45of the
01:18:45French
01:18:46and what
01:18:46they're
01:18:46doing
01:18:47we're looking
01:18:48at it
01:18:48from a
01:18:48Newcastle
01:18:49point of
01:18:49view
01:18:49but I
01:18:49think
01:18:50Newcastle
01:18:50will be
01:18:51happy
01:18:51with either
01:18:52of those
01:18:52teams
01:18:52and if
01:18:53they get
01:18:53through
01:18:54that
01:18:54you told
01:18:55me off
01:18:55earlier
01:18:56for looking
01:18:56too far
01:18:57ahead
01:18:58Barcelona
01:18:58and Chelsea
01:18:59would be
01:19:00waiting
01:19:00for the
01:19:01winners
01:19:01and if it
01:19:02follows the
01:19:02seedings
01:19:03you would
01:19:03get Paris
01:19:07in the same
01:19:07bracket
01:19:08yeah
01:19:08absolutely
01:19:08and I
01:19:09think
01:19:09the Chelsea
01:19:10Barcelona
01:19:10part of
01:19:11that
01:19:11on paper
01:19:12like
01:19:12historically
01:19:13we say
01:19:13oh that's
01:19:13a really
01:19:14really tough
01:19:14tie
01:19:15but I think
01:19:15PSG
01:19:16Newcastle
01:19:16on that
01:19:16side
01:19:17of the
01:19:17bracket
01:19:17hopefully
01:19:17trying to
01:19:18fight
01:19:18their way
01:19:18into that
01:19:19I think
01:19:19they'll find
01:19:19a set of
01:19:20chances
01:19:20100%
01:19:20to get a
01:19:21result
01:19:21against
01:19:21the other
01:19:21side
01:19:22what stands
01:19:22out for you
01:19:23Jules
01:19:24when you look
01:19:24at it all
01:19:25I think
01:19:26there's big
01:19:26ties coming up
01:19:27potentially
01:19:27as we see
01:19:28the Juventus
01:19:28Atletico
01:19:29Madrid
01:19:29side of that
01:19:31draw
01:19:31if the big
01:19:37and won
01:19:37Italian clubs
01:19:39English teams
01:19:40would be
01:19:40favourite
01:19:40but if you
01:19:41look past
01:19:43the playoffs
01:19:43and where
01:19:43the biggest
01:19:44team should
01:19:44win
01:19:44really
01:19:45you've got
01:19:45some incredible
01:19:46last 16
01:19:47ties coming up
01:19:47you really
01:19:48have
01:19:48and then
01:19:48for Manchester
01:19:50City again
01:19:52Real Madrid
01:19:53are in their
01:19:54same bracket
01:19:55and possibly
01:19:55Inter as well
01:19:56you call it
01:19:57conspiracy
01:19:57no
01:19:58I'm joking
01:20:00relax
01:20:00relax
01:20:01relax
01:20:02I'm clearly
01:20:02rattled
01:20:03Real Madrid
01:20:03competition
01:20:04Mbappe again
01:20:05it's not been
01:20:06the easiest
01:20:06show to get
01:20:07through
01:20:10how do you
01:20:11think the
01:20:11rest of
01:20:12I know you
01:20:13can't speak
01:20:13for a whole
01:20:13continent
01:20:13but how do
01:20:14you think
01:20:14the rest of
01:20:15Europe will
01:20:15be looking at
01:20:16the Premier
01:20:17League dominance
01:20:17as far as
01:20:18the top eight
01:20:19is concerned
01:20:19all the time
01:20:20I think it was
01:20:21expected from
01:20:22the beginning
01:20:22this is the
01:20:23best league
01:20:23in the world
01:20:23it's the most
01:20:24powerful clubs
01:20:25in the world
01:20:25financially
01:20:25especially
01:20:26and even if
01:20:27as you know
01:20:28I'm not sure
01:20:29the Premier League
01:20:29season is that
01:20:30great
01:20:31so far
01:20:32they're still
01:20:33far too good
01:20:33for the rest
01:20:34and when you
01:20:34see some
01:20:35Spanish clubs
01:20:35like Napoli
01:20:36the Italian
01:20:37champions
01:20:37struggling
01:20:38Spanish clubs
01:20:39like Villarreal
01:20:39third in the
01:20:40league
01:20:40out of the
01:20:41Champions League
01:20:41it shows you
01:20:42that it's too
01:20:43easy for English
01:20:43clubs
01:20:43I mean
01:20:44Guillaume
01:20:44Balogu
01:20:44actually sat
01:20:45there midway
01:20:45through this
01:20:46sort of league
01:20:47stage and went
01:20:48it's surprising
01:20:49that it hasn't
01:20:49happened before
01:20:50really
01:20:51yeah
01:20:51I find that
01:20:52interesting
01:20:52I just think
01:20:53the league
01:20:54is so
01:20:54competitive
01:20:55in the
01:20:55Premier League
01:20:56and you
01:20:56take that
01:20:56quality in
01:20:57I think
01:20:58the big
01:20:58thing
01:20:58is that
01:20:59because the
01:21:00Premier League
01:21:00is so
01:21:01competitive
01:21:01is that
01:21:02it actually
01:21:03hinders us
01:21:03at the
01:21:04back end
01:21:04of the
01:21:04Champions League
01:21:05because we're
01:21:05not as fresh
01:21:06right that's
01:21:07it
01:21:08thank you
01:21:08to all
01:21:09three of
01:21:09you
01:21:09Stephen
01:21:10Nadam
01:21:10and Julian
01:21:1118 games
01:21:12and 61
01:21:13goals later
01:21:14we are done
