00:00:00The NBA Challenge Cup, everyone wants to win.
00:00:02Crazy gang have beaten the Culture Club.
00:00:06Gerrard!
00:00:07Oh yes!
00:00:09The score is here, but that continues.
00:00:11What a goal!
00:00:13Back with a score!
00:00:14Steve's in trouble!
00:00:16Come on!
00:00:17Give it up!
00:00:18This is the moment of joy that all professional footballers hope for.
00:00:22And Mo Manitrae, for the first time, Crystal Palace are winners!
00:00:30Good evening. Highlights from the third round of the FA Cup on Match of the Day tonight for Premier League
00:00:34and Championship Clubs.
00:00:36This weekend marks the start of the long road to Wembley.
00:00:3922 ties to pack in. Luckily, nothing gets past Rob Green nor Dion Dublin.
00:00:45No team from the sixth tier has ever beaten top-flight opposition in the FA Cup.
00:00:49So a massive task facing non-league Macclesfield as they welcome cup holders Crystal Palace.
00:00:54Commentary from Stephen Warnock and Guy Mowbray.
00:00:58The biggest day in the all-new Macclesfield FC's short history.
00:01:02If they win, it would be the biggest shock in the FA Cup's rich history.
00:01:07Macclesfield's leading scorer, Danny Elliott, has again been ruled out, having missed their last two games.
00:01:12With his role once more being played by former Manchester United junior, Damani Mellor.
00:01:17For Palace, six changes from their goal at straw with Aston Villa on Wednesday.
00:01:20But still a strong side for the cup holders, with Chris Richards back from injury and Mark Gahey, Adam Wharton
00:01:26and Jeremy Pino all starting.
00:01:29Brilliant atmosphere.
00:01:31Super day for it.
00:01:34Let Macclesfield against Palace begin.
00:01:38That was quite a nasty clash of heads.
00:01:41Paul Dawson will not be worried of taking a knock very early on.
00:01:44He's used to taking them and giving them quite a bit.
00:01:47Paul Dawson, incidentally, will have to leave the field at least temporarily with blood trickling from a cup.
00:01:53There's Rob Smethurst, the owner of Macclesfield FC, who was leading this club to ever greater height, season upon season.
00:02:03The proper job's been done on Captain Dawson.
00:02:10Uche.
00:02:13Uche, shot!
00:02:15Not far away.
00:02:15And it flew towards goal like a rocket.
00:02:19Well, there's your warning sign from Macclesfield's point of view.
00:02:23That's what Uche can bring.
00:02:24But when he lets fly there, I don't think the keeper realises how close that is.
00:02:34Richards, a little too high for Rodney.
00:02:37K.
00:02:39Rodney's challenge is deemed unfair.
00:02:41It's going to be a free kick for Macclesfield.
00:02:43He's just come into the game in the last few minutes.
00:02:45Hasn't he care?
00:02:46He's dangerous.
00:02:47He's quick.
00:02:48He's direct in the way that he plays.
00:02:50Draws the foul here for him.
00:02:51Rodney does well with his feet to get across.
00:02:55There's some more running repairs needed for Paul Dawson.
00:02:59It's a particular look, isn't it?
00:03:03Now Duffy puts it in.
00:03:04That doesn't look a bad ball.
00:03:06It's a great ball.
00:03:07It's a wonderful goal.
00:03:11Captain Dawson hits the Southman in front.
00:03:20Perfect for the non-league team.
00:03:23Just perfect.
00:03:24So this time, it's Luke Duffy to spin it in with his right foot.
00:03:29And this time he's not looking to hit that near post.
00:03:32He's just looking to hang it up and give his opportunity to the big players at the back post.
00:03:39It's absolutely brilliant.
00:03:41To mobile Macclesfield fans will never forget.
00:03:46Rob Smithhurst, almost in tears.
00:03:52Oliver Glasner now starting to look a little agitated.
00:03:55The first Austrian coach to win the greatest cup competition in the world.
00:04:02Won his home Nations Cup twice as a player with SV Reid.
00:04:08Buckley Ricketts.
00:04:09There's Mellor who goes down.
00:04:11Richard's challenging.
00:04:12Buckley Ricketts comes out of the pot with the ball.
00:04:15Palace just can't get it away.
00:04:17Buckley Ricketts didn't get it out.
00:04:19But he did.
00:04:19Yes, he did.
00:04:21He's touched it past the knee.
00:04:23He does.
00:04:24And it's two for Macclesfield.
00:04:30Now we're really in the realms of FA Cup fantasy.
00:04:37Buckley Ricketts keeps trying to get through.
00:04:40He's like a battering ram.
00:04:42He finds himself on that far side.
00:04:43And as this shot comes in, look how he readjusts.
00:04:46He just readjusts, stabs it towards goal.
00:04:50And the goalkeeper, Walter Benitez, is almost wrong-footed.
00:04:53He's going the other way.
00:04:58That's Oliver Glasner's reaction.
00:05:00What to do, what to do?
00:05:04I don't think Mark Bright and Steve Parrish are particularly impressed with anything much that they've seen so far today.
00:05:14There is still time for Palace to change the whole story.
00:05:18Here's Uche.
00:05:21Uche across the face.
00:05:22He didn't miss by a lot, but he did miss.
00:05:25You say it can change in an instance.
00:05:27It nearly did.
00:05:28And it's just because Uche gets half a yard and Heathcote doesn't want to go too close to him because
00:05:33he's worried about him skipping beyond him.
00:05:36Look at the Crystal Palace fans.
00:05:38I said off at four this morning.
00:05:41Goodness me.
00:05:46And it's Mitchell.
00:05:48Meneasic.
00:05:49It's not away yet.
00:05:52And that's Walter.
00:05:53Oh, good save.
00:05:55Funded towards Durnley's goal.
00:05:58Durnley's been relatively quiet throughout this game when called upon here.
00:06:03He makes a really good stop.
00:06:05Wonder what big brother thinks.
00:06:07Oh, he'll be happy.
00:06:08He'll be absolutely delighted, won't he?
00:06:10Very proud, I'm sure.
00:06:13Michaelsfield have had to deal with that tragic setback losing Ethan McLeod.
00:06:18But what a performance they're putting on in his memory.
00:06:22Durnley stayed back on his line.
00:06:24Dawson's header.
00:06:26That's going to be a free kick for Palace.
00:06:30Mellor was just beaten to it by Mark Gahey.
00:06:36Sosa or Johnson.
00:06:38It's going to be Brennan Johnson.
00:06:40And he's done it.
00:06:41He's cold in a beauty.
00:06:43Oh, it's Pino.
00:06:43It's Jeremy Pino who took it.
00:06:45My mistake.
00:06:46Yeah, he had to get it up and over that wall.
00:06:48It's a quite brilliant free kick from Pino.
00:06:50And you just get that sense now around the stadium.
00:06:54That worry.
00:06:55That things could possibly turn.
00:06:57Turn very quickly.
00:06:59Now all of the Macclesfield fans are holding their breaths after all this work.
00:07:04Palace have still got fight in them.
00:07:07That's Gahey.
00:07:09There's Casey.
00:07:11Now Johnson.
00:07:12Johnson's ball in.
00:07:14Looks a good one.
00:07:15Matheson's ready for it.
00:07:16This is Warton.
00:07:17And it hits the roof of the stands.
00:07:20And now we are in the sixth minute of added time.
00:07:25The board said six.
00:07:29Sosa.
00:07:32Headed away from Uche.
00:07:36It's a missed kick.
00:07:38But now Dawson will have the last kick.
00:07:40And how fitting is that?
00:07:45Macclesfield.
00:07:46And National League North.
00:07:49And knocked out Premier League Crystal Palace.
00:07:56It is the biggest shock that the world's greatest cup competition has ever seen.
00:08:05You know we spoke earlier and we spoke about hope and having a chance.
00:08:09But I never really believed it.
00:08:11That was just me hoping.
00:08:12But wow the boys were absolutely outstanding.
00:08:15And the way the performance their pups put on.
00:08:18Wow.
00:08:18You know we can give them a little bit on the side and help them in that sense.
00:08:20But they've got to cross that like you're not doing it.
00:08:23Couldn't be any prouder.
00:08:24Yeah disappointed.
00:08:26Embarrassed.
00:08:28Been involved in many games as a player and as a manager.
00:08:31I think this is one of the worst I've seen.
00:08:38So congratulations to Macclesfield for the win.
00:08:42I do whatever I can.
00:08:43Week in, week out.
00:08:44You've got to give 110%.
00:08:45And that's what every one of the lads did today.
00:08:48So yeah I'm proud.
00:08:51The lads were class.
00:08:54He was magnificent.
00:08:55They were absolutely brilliant.
00:08:57Dion good evening.
00:08:58Good evening Rob.
00:08:58I mean this is what the cup is all about.
00:09:01Yeah they're incredible scenes.
00:09:02And what a time for a club that they didn't have a club six years ago.
00:09:05And then after the recent weeks of death of Ethan McLeod.
00:09:08One of their players to bring everybody together is just wonderful.
00:09:13Like Paul Dawson Dion.
00:09:14What an afternoon.
00:09:16Yeah I mean there wasn't a blade of grass that he didn't cover.
00:09:19He was a leader.
00:09:22I'll show you exactly what he did.
00:09:24Because we've got this run of him heading it, kicking it, tackles.
00:09:29Because everything that you want your captain to do as a leader and as somebody that's going to show you
00:09:36how to compete in a FA Cup game.
00:09:39First challenge.
00:09:40Crystal Palace.
00:09:41This is what it's all about.
00:09:42This is what it's all about.
00:09:44I'm the captain.
00:09:45Clash of heads.
00:09:46He cuts his head and there's a bit of a melee there.
00:09:49But I just believe that he set the tone and he put into the Crystal Palace players' heads.
00:09:55It's going to be a hard day for you today.
00:09:57We know exactly how to play against you.
00:09:59He was the leader.
00:10:00He was getting crosses in.
00:10:01He was out on the left wing.
00:10:03He was playing in the middle of the park as well.
00:10:05This is a great clip here where he's just really tenacious and he holds on to the ball.
00:10:12And then he calms down because he's under a bit of pressure and he keeps the ball nice and simple.
00:10:16And then his team get on the front foot again.
00:10:19Yeah.
00:10:19He was just so composed at times.
00:10:21He knew where to be, when to be, when to put his body on the line.
00:10:25He's just saying that bit there is just wonderful.
00:10:27And then the opportunity to just calm down.
00:10:29And here, Dion touched on it.
00:10:31Big cambo in a 1v1 in the first moments.
00:10:34Here, same player.
00:10:36Got the muscle memory.
00:10:37Got his one-up on his opponent.
00:10:39And it is a wonderful header.
00:10:42Look at these scenes.
00:10:43Brilliant celebrations.
00:10:44I mean, absolutely fantastic.
00:10:46Well done, Macclesfield.
00:10:47And a day that will live long in the memory of the players, but also the fans as well.
00:10:51Absolutely fantastic.
00:10:52Well done, Paul Dawson.
00:10:53But Macclesfield stopped Palace, didn't he, in every part of the ground?
00:10:56Yeah, and it just touched on what Paul Dawson did, but epitomising the whole team as well
00:11:00and how they cut the lines off to Crystal Palace, slowed them down, made them look ordinary,
00:11:06really ordinary at times.
00:11:08And it was such a well-disciplined and well-executed performance.
00:11:12And the manager touched on it before the game and after the game, said,
00:11:15we want to play a 4-5-1, we want to cut the lines off into someone like Jeremy Pino.
00:11:19And it's just these lines that it made it look so pedestrian on the ball from Crystal Palace
00:11:25that they knew when to go as well, when to go in numbers that they're saying,
00:11:29right, OK, this is the opportunity that we've got to go high.
00:11:32It's not just those two.
00:11:33You can see there are three, four other players around them forcing the error.
00:11:37And, Dion, they did this for the whole 90 minutes as well.
00:11:40Yeah, we know how good Wharton can be.
00:11:42And he was forced to make mistake after mistake.
00:11:45Just through not one blue shirt going, but three and four.
00:11:48There will be a trigger.
00:11:50The trigger goes.
00:11:51And then they went in behind the trigger.
00:11:53It happened for the whole of the game.
00:11:55And it worked.
00:11:56I mean, the way that they hold the line, Crystal Palace players were offside five or six times today.
00:12:03They just couldn't get themselves in because the two centre-halves were talking.
00:12:07The two full-bats were talking a lot.
00:12:09Again, the ball goes back five yards.
00:12:11Watch this one, five yards.
00:12:12And the back five are up on the 18-yard line, making it really difficult.
00:12:17No space to play in whatsoever.
00:12:19And they're offside.
00:12:21And when you do that and you get those offside decisions, it's because that man there has worked on it
00:12:27in training.
00:12:28And I'm so pleased for John Rooney.
00:12:29Yeah.
00:12:30Look at that smile.
00:12:31Fantastic.
00:12:32In our big screen tonight.
00:12:33Lovely stuff.
00:12:33And Dion, how incredible that the last time we saw Crystal Palace in the FA Cup was in the final
00:12:38when they beat Manchester City.
00:12:40Who would have thought?
00:12:41Here we are in studio.
00:12:42And we're talking about Palace being humbled by Macclesfield.
00:12:45Well, they were humbled by the better team today.
00:12:47In every aspect.
00:12:49The work rate.
00:12:51A full house.
00:12:53You know, their biggest crowd, I think.
00:12:55And I just believe if you...
00:12:57You might not be as good as these Premier League players.
00:12:59But if you give everything and you're organised, look what might happen.
00:13:03Absolutely right.
00:13:04Well done, Macclesfield.
00:13:05Right next to the all-Premier League time between Newcastle United and Bournemouth.
00:13:08Commentary from Darren Ambrose and Dan Mason.
00:13:13Seven changes today for the Magpies with Kieran Trippier returning and rare starts for Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey.
00:13:21But this is far from a weakened team.
00:13:23Eddie Howe starting both Nick Voltemada and Johan Wisser.
00:13:28Six changes for Bournemouth who have not only lost Antoine Semenya to City,
00:13:32but also Justin Kluiver to injury.
00:13:35I mean, Adley gets the job of replacing Semenya on the wing.
00:13:39While Inis Unau starts his first Terries game in over a year.
00:13:48This is the best pass from Ramsey.
00:13:51But Newcastle have won it back here.
00:13:53Willock.
00:13:55Ramsey to his right.
00:13:57Here he is.
00:13:58Barnes with a flick.
00:13:59It's Nick Voltemada.
00:14:01It's Johan Wisser.
00:14:02What a save from Georgi Petrovic.
00:14:05He's had his critics.
00:14:07Petrovic.
00:14:07But not now.
00:14:08It's good play for Newcastle.
00:14:09He finds its way to Nick Voltemada.
00:14:11I thought he was going to shoot first time.
00:14:13Lays it to his striker.
00:14:14Wonderful save.
00:14:18In all competitions, Bournemouth have managed only one away win this season.
00:14:23That was at Tottenham in August.
00:14:26Now it's Harvey Barnes.
00:14:28He scores for Newcastle.
00:14:30Who at last have the lead here.
00:14:32Five minutes gone in the second half.
00:14:35What a pass.
00:14:36Voltemada outside of his boot.
00:14:38Round of defence.
00:14:39Slots it home.
00:14:40Harvey Barnes.
00:14:41Man in the hour.
00:14:42Brilliant.
00:14:421-0.
00:14:45Early goal in the second half will do wonders for Newcastle and the Magpies faithful.
00:14:53But they've given it to Evan Nilsson.
00:14:54And Ramsdale prevents an almost instant equaliser.
00:14:58It's their own mistake.
00:15:00Newcastle gives it away.
00:15:02Livramento got it all wrong.
00:15:04So did Evan Nilsson.
00:15:07Needs to score for me.
00:15:14Tonali.
00:15:15Second goal might be the best bet for the Magpies.
00:15:19Almost got one there.
00:15:22A real mix-up at the back for Bournemouth.
00:15:29Wall's delivery.
00:15:30It's deep.
00:15:31Oh, fantastic header from Botman.
00:15:33Off the frame of the goal.
00:15:36An inch below that would have been another goal.
00:15:45Charles flying header.
00:15:47Evan Nilsson under it for Bournemouth.
00:15:51Brooks.
00:15:53It's Evan Nilsson.
00:15:54And it's tapped in.
00:15:56By Alex Scott.
00:15:58Bournemouth level.
00:16:00They have responded brilliantly since falling behind.
00:16:04And Alex Scott gets a well-deserved equaliser for the Cherries.
00:16:09The response from Evan Nilsson as well, by the way.
00:16:12Since he's missed chances.
00:16:13Creating everything for Bournemouth.
00:16:15Hits it towards the back post.
00:16:17Alex Scott arriving perfectly.
00:16:22Solaire for Bournemouth.
00:16:25What the pass that was to Brooks.
00:16:28And suddenly Bournemouth are in here.
00:16:29Look how short Newcastle are at the back.
00:16:32And that was a vital intersection by Botman.
00:16:36Brooks.
00:16:36Oh, fantastic goal.
00:16:39Bournemouth have turned it around.
00:16:42David Brooks, the goal scorer.
00:16:44And what a goal.
00:16:46From one end to the other.
00:16:47As you said, it was a great pass.
00:16:49For David Brooks, he drove through.
00:16:51I thought he'd overdone it.
00:16:52I thought he picked the wrong option, which he did initially.
00:16:54But as soon as he gets it on his right foot,
00:16:57there's a player open on the right-hand side.
00:16:58One thought in his mind.
00:17:01What a turnaround.
00:17:05Will they get one last chance, Newcastle?
00:17:10Gordon.
00:17:16It might fall for Tenali.
00:17:18He's in.
00:17:18He goes down.
00:17:20And what's the referee going to say?
00:17:22He points to the spot.
00:17:24And Newcastle have a chance to save themselves.
00:17:27And it's Diakite with a slip.
00:17:30Losing his foot.
00:17:31It's a clear penalty.
00:17:33It's his trailing right leg.
00:17:35Connects with Tenali.
00:17:38All the pressure is on Anthony Gordon.
00:17:43He scores!
00:17:45And Newcastle United have once again given us a dramatic late finish.
00:17:52And this third-round tie is looking like heading into extra time.
00:18:00And the pass intercepted.
00:18:03Rather telegraphed that one.
00:18:06Alex Scott.
00:18:07That's a very good pass.
00:18:09It's Jimenez in for Bournemouth.
00:18:11Great save by Ramsdale.
00:18:13Potentially a match-winning save.
00:18:16It just never looked comfortable, Jimenez, when he ran through.
00:18:31It's Anthony Gordon's cross.
00:18:33It's Barnes.
00:18:33It's Edda.
00:18:34And Newcastle United have won it right at the death.
00:18:38Harvey Barnes has done it again.
00:18:41It's a lovely delivery, Anthony Gordon.
00:18:43Harvey Barnes rises the highest.
00:18:47Petrovic stood no chance.
00:18:51Alex Jimenez.
00:18:55Marcus Tavernier.
00:18:57Here's a chance.
00:18:58Oh, they've levelled it.
00:19:00Marcus Tavernier draws Bournemouth level just when they look like they were cooked.
00:19:06It's unbelievable.
00:19:07It's just confusion.
00:19:09Sven Botman, Aaron Ramsdale, Malik Chell.
00:19:11One of you has to clear that.
00:19:13They're delighted on the sidelines.
00:19:16Wow.
00:19:19Here's Tonali.
00:19:22Barnes.
00:19:23Good ball.
00:19:24Oh, Gordon missed it.
00:19:26This is quite incredible.
00:19:28Adam Smith prevents a late, late winner from Newcastle United.
00:19:33And we are going to go into a penalty shootout.
00:19:38Nick Voltamada is the next man up for the Magpies.
00:19:44Oh, it's against the crossbar and it's advantage Bournemouth.
00:19:49Plenty of power, not quite the right amount of accuracy.
00:19:55Evan Nielsen for Bournemouth to give them the lead in the shootout after two kicks.
00:20:05Saved by Ramsdale, who guessed correctly.
00:20:09And this game keeps us guessing.
00:20:13Bruno Gimaraes, the latest to place the ball for Newcastle.
00:20:20Saved by Petrovic this time.
00:20:23The goalkeeper stood his ground.
00:20:26And Gimaraes rather embarrassed by that effort.
00:20:31Can Aaron Ramsdale come to the rescue again?
00:20:35It's Cook.
00:20:36Oh, he almost got there, the goalkeeper.
00:20:40A cheeky one from Lewis Cook.
00:20:48Tonali.
00:20:48Another short runner.
00:20:49And he finds the corner.
00:20:52Level at 2-2.
00:20:53But Bournemouth still with the advantage.
00:20:56Alex Jiménez.
00:20:58He looks calm.
00:21:00He looks composed.
00:21:01But it's saved by Ramsdale.
00:21:05Bournemouth spurning another chance to take it away from their hosts.
00:21:11Into sudden death.
00:21:13Alex Chow now.
00:21:16How will he get on?
00:21:17Short runner.
00:21:19Simple finish.
00:21:20Got the job done.
00:21:21So, it's all good.
00:21:24De Foddy Diakite.
00:21:27Summer signing from Lille.
00:21:30It's saved by Ramsdale.
00:21:32And Newcastle have won it.
00:21:35Ramsdale, the undisputed hero.
00:21:37In the shootout.
00:21:39An absorbing and exhilarating FA Cup third round tie.
00:21:45It was a classic FA Cup tie.
00:21:47I think extra time, probably the last thing both managers wanted.
00:21:50Especially with our game on Tuesday for us.
00:21:52But the priority was to try and get through.
00:21:55And thankfully we've done it.
00:21:56The extra time was about who had more energy.
00:21:59Who could use better, probably, the subs.
00:22:03And no complaints.
00:22:06I'm very proud of how we played.
00:22:08About my players.
00:22:09But it's true that I wanted to win the next round.
00:22:12Anyhow, absolutely bang on, Dionne.
00:22:14Classic Cup tie.
00:22:16And if you're looking for top players, look no further than Harvey Barnes.
00:22:19Yeah, again, just a very positive performance.
00:22:24And I think he's getting better with age.
00:22:26I think he's knowing the game.
00:22:27He's knowing his position even better.
00:22:29Then knowing how to use him as well.
00:22:32What I like about Harvey Barnes is he always finds the right position at the right time.
00:22:37Gets himself there.
00:22:38Nice little flick.
00:22:39They create a chance out of this.
00:22:41They don't score.
00:22:42But he finds a different position because he wasn't getting involved.
00:22:45And when he's wide, he always tries to go direct at his defender.
00:22:50So he can create something behind.
00:22:52This on here is a little layoff.
00:22:54And he's gone again.
00:22:55Always trying to get in behind.
00:22:57And what a ball.
00:22:58What a ball from Volta Mata that is, by the way.
00:23:01And a really good accomplished finish.
00:23:03Yeah, he's sometimes been accused in the past of sort of drifting away from the game.
00:23:07But there was none of that today.
00:23:09And then after about 70 minutes, his mate came on, Anthony Gordon, on the other wing.
00:23:13And they just were unplayable at times with the pace, the directness, the speed between them.
00:23:19And their willingness to go.
00:23:20And what I was really impressed with is how he found these positions like this.
00:23:24He turns into prime Shearer all of a sudden.
00:23:26You're looking at him saying, get beyond the end man.
00:23:29What a comparison.
00:23:30He'd be delighted with that.
00:23:31And it's a fantastic ball across to win it.
00:23:34And Anthony Gordon fluffs his lines.
00:23:35And it's just something that he was unstoppable today in how he played.
00:23:40But, you know, he's got 11 in all comps now.
00:23:43Harvey Barnes, he needs to do more of that.
00:23:44And he needs to do that more often.
00:23:46Consistent.
00:23:47Consistently for season after season for Newcastle.
00:23:49Yeah, great numbers.
00:23:49Absolutely right, Dion.
00:23:50Rob, we'll talk about Bournemouth in just a moment.
00:23:52I just want to look at Newcastle's fixtures because they've got a tough run of games, haven't they?
00:23:55They've got a tough run of games.
00:23:57But if you look at it, this is the crunch point of the season for them.
00:24:00And this is what they wanted.
00:24:01They wanted to be defending their cup in the EFL Cup.
00:24:04They've got the semifinals.
00:24:05They wanted to be in the sharp end of the Champions League.
00:24:08They're in that.
00:24:09You're looking at potentially having other playoff games in there in the Champions League as well after that.
00:24:15It's a great time.
00:24:16You've just got to be in there and keep on trucking because they need the energy.
00:24:20They need to keep on driving through.
00:24:22Yeah, absolutely.
00:24:22We watched this game live, of course.
00:24:24And at one point, I didn't think it was going to end.
00:24:26When we were on air this afternoon.
00:24:28That's how it felt.
00:24:29Because everything was happening.
00:24:31And so many things.
00:24:32Goals and penalties, the whole thing.
00:24:34Great spectacle.
00:24:35But, Dion, Bournemouth deserves some credit for the way they hung in there.
00:24:38Yeah, they did.
00:24:39You know, no Semenyo now.
00:24:40So it's going to be difficult for them.
00:24:42But they actually went into the ring and made it a fight.
00:24:46Yep, quite right.
00:24:47Thank you very much.
00:24:47Right, Liam Rossini took charge of Chelsea for the first time tonight
00:24:50against Charlton Athletic of the Championship.
00:24:53At the Valley for us, Mark Scott.
00:24:57The higher the pressure, the higher the privilege was Liam Rossini's take
00:25:02on stepping into one of the hottest hot seats in football.
00:25:06And he'll certainly get an early blast of heat if Chelsea slip up here.
00:25:11Amongst Charlton's four changes is a second appearance of the season for keeper Will Mannion.
00:25:17Rossini's first Chelsea selection shows eight alterations from the loss at Fulham with Tosin,
00:25:24and Caicedo and Santos, the only ones to keep their places.
00:25:30Chelsea have gone through from 61 of their last 63 FA Cup ties against teams from a lower division,
00:25:37including their last 22 in a row.
00:25:43Caicedo popped off to Achiempong.
00:25:45He's going to have a hit!
00:25:47He's beaten away well by Mannion.
00:25:50Josh Achiempong, who has only scored once before in his entire career with a stinger here,
00:25:56that needed a firm pair of hands from Will Mannion.
00:26:03Jamie Gittins, good carry, and not a bad strike either.
00:26:10Mannion down smartly here to keep him away.
00:26:14Good direct stuff from Jamie Gittins,
00:26:16though close enough to the keeper that it's always what he should make.
00:26:25That's going to break for Jural Hato!
00:26:31The first goal of the Resenia Reign is a humdinger from Jural Hato.
00:26:41On the stroke of half-time, Charlton Antam.
00:26:46By a glorious hit from Hato.
00:26:50The first goal of the Liam Resenia Reign is a first goal from the 19-year-old for Chelsea as
00:26:59well.
00:27:00Charlton 0, Chelsea 1.
00:27:03That is a glorious strike from the teenager.
00:27:15Bring in Achiempong into it.
00:27:18Gittins.
00:27:22Jamie Gittins!
00:27:23Oh, Gui with a tap in, but he couldn't get there.
00:27:26And now Chelsea won a penalty.
00:27:28Chris Cavanaugh making it very clear that he felt the ball was won.
00:27:33This is what they were unhappy about.
00:27:36And he does get cleaned out, doesn't he?
00:27:41And a quarterback on the ales.
00:27:42Flighted nicely upfield by Tosin and beautifully controlled by Gittins.
00:27:48Campbell has taken him out.
00:27:52it's a real swipe from Campbell that gives Chelsea the free kick
00:27:58so we put an otte, oh great ball and headed home by Tosin and Chelsea have daylight now
00:28:08Liam Resenia well on track to get off to a winning start with Chelsea
00:28:15Tosin had a free header and any kind of touch from there was always likely to send it in
00:28:22their side heading through to round four of the FA Cup but there's been
00:28:26quite a few charts directed towards the ownership and it's not been complimentary
00:28:37Tyrese Campbell
00:28:40Hart in to Lieburn, Bree with the air kick and in behind for a corner
00:28:46closest that Charlton have come
00:28:52Morgensen to say it's on his line and then makes the save for the rebound's buried
00:28:57and Myles Lieburn breathes life into this Cup tie
00:29:03the man who joined Charlton at youth level after a spell at Chelsea
00:29:10scores against the Blues to give the addicts hope
00:29:15you could argue that there was a player in an offside position in front of Philipp Jorgensen
00:29:21but no VAR, no problem for Charlton
00:29:25and that show
00:29:32three in blue up there for him to aim for
00:29:36and the first time sweep is blocked, the rebound tucked away by Mark Gew
00:29:41and Chelsea have their cushion back
00:29:44his first ever domestic goal for Chelsea
00:29:49all of his previous goals for Chelsea have come in Europe
00:29:53this one might well be sending them through in the oldest domestic cup competition
00:30:02here goes Enzo Fernandes looking to add some gloss to the scoreline
00:30:06laid off for Petro Neto who will hit it now and score Chelsea's fourth
00:30:11and he had pinpoint accuracy that meant that
00:30:15Wilmanian could only stand and watch
00:30:17as Chelsea hit their fourth at the valley
00:30:22it is a happy valley for Liam Rossini
00:30:26in his first game as the Chelsea boss
00:30:30Charlton won, Chelsea four
00:30:34Chelsea running right now
00:30:37looking for number five
00:30:38Esteval
00:30:39Manion to the rescue
00:30:41no, it's a penalty
00:30:45Chelsea have the chance to hit five
00:30:47a right smile from Esteval
00:30:51I know that it's foggy
00:30:53but even I can see that this is a foul
00:30:58Enzo Fernandes
00:31:01a five-star Chelsea showing
00:31:03in game one
00:31:05for Liam Rossini
00:31:06and it is the last kick of the game
00:31:09well he said that he was going to
00:31:12ignore the noise around his appointment
00:31:14as manager of the Blues
00:31:16and his players have gone quietly
00:31:19about their business tonight
00:31:21Charlton Athletic one
00:31:23Chelsea five
00:31:27can't get carried away off one game
00:31:30let's see
00:31:31I have an idea of what I think this team could be
00:31:34but it takes time
00:31:36we need to be consistent
00:31:37we need to keep our feet on the floor
00:31:39and be really, really humble
00:31:40we knew we were coming up against a world-class team
00:31:44and we had a good structure
00:31:46we were in the game for long periods of time
00:31:48but there were just certain things we gave
00:31:50the goals for us were really poor
00:31:52and that was just too easy for them to go away from us
00:31:54Football, we talk a lot about tactics
00:31:56what I was happy was with the attitude and mentality of the group today
00:31:58and that's something that we really need to build on
00:32:01Yeah, we'll talk about his role at the football club in just a moment
00:32:04but Dion, what a start
00:32:06Chelsea made, what a goal
00:32:07Yeah, I mean
00:32:09Joel Harto, he'll never strike a ball
00:32:12like it ever again
00:32:14the young Dutch lad
00:32:1519 years old
00:32:16scores the first goal in Liam's reign
00:32:20and look at that
00:32:22that's perfectly struck on the laces, Rob
00:32:25It's an incredible strike
00:32:27there wasn't a lot happened in that first half
00:32:30there was a lot of control from Chelsea
00:32:31that was something different
00:32:35Absolutely
00:32:35clean, scored a few of those, didn't you?
00:32:37Err, no
00:32:39Not with your left
00:32:40Not with your left
00:32:40It traded everything
00:32:41It traded everything
00:32:42It traded everything
00:32:43Rob, let's talk about the job that Liam Rossini has got on his hands
00:32:46when you look at the squad
00:32:48what do you think he's got?
00:32:49Well, some things haven't changed since a week ago
00:32:52and you're looking at a guy who's tactically astute
00:32:55he's a clever guy
00:32:56and he's got to find a way in games to respond
00:32:58for when the opposition change the game
00:33:01and I think today they were sort of always in control
00:33:04they always had control of the ball
00:33:05so it wasn't really asked that question
00:33:07I think he's got to develop those second-ranked players
00:33:11the players who aren't really in the first eleven
00:33:13get them up to speed is a bigger thing
00:33:15and biggest thing of all
00:33:16find a connection between the club and the fans
00:33:20and the players again
00:33:22I think that's the bit
00:33:23we heard it in the game
00:33:24and I think that's where the discourse is right now
00:33:27Dion, what do you say?
00:33:28No, I think there's the depth is where they're struggling
00:33:33if they want to go and challenge in the top four
00:33:35start winning things
00:33:36as we were watching that goal as well
00:33:39I've chatted to Rob about it all day
00:33:41that if they could have 19, 20, 21
00:33:44top, top class players
00:33:46they will be challenging
00:33:47at the moment they haven't got that many
00:33:49and he needs to coach some players better
00:33:51and find some sort of consistency as well, Rob
00:33:53Yeah, absolutely
00:33:55it's such a quick turnaround for him
00:33:57there's such a far time
00:33:58his coaching is key
00:34:00the time on the training ground is so short for him
00:34:02Yep, absolutely
00:34:03right, disappointing week in the Premier League
00:34:05I see Manchester City
00:34:06for six points behind Arsenal
00:34:08in the title race
00:34:09but their new £64 million signing
00:34:11Antoine Semenya made his debut today
00:34:13with City starting their cup journey at home
00:34:15to Exeter City of League One
00:34:17Conor McNamara was watching
00:34:18with the coming of the top 4
00:34:20On the top 4
00:34:21On the top 4
00:34:22On the top 4
00:34:23On the top 4
00:34:26On the top 5
00:34:27We're up
00:34:28decided to have a crack
00:34:30it came off the back of Max alone
00:34:32it's the first corner of the game and it's for League One Exeter City. Pep Guardiola looking
00:34:39on for the stands today he picked up a yellow card against Brighton in midweek triggering a
00:34:45touchline ban. Great reaction from James Trafford. Liam Oaks up for the corner managing to get his
00:34:55head on that and from point blank range and given that he was impeded you've got to admire the
00:35:00reactions of James Trafford there.
00:35:05And from Rodri is accurately to Reinders and here is Erling Haaland involved for the first time today
00:35:10and it ricochets out for the corner.
00:35:15Nice little glancing touch here by Tajani Reinders. Erling Haaland usually only needs a glimpse.
00:35:24Haaland has got nine goals from nine FA Cup starts in his career so far.
00:35:31Looking to Haaland.
00:35:35Erling Haaland's touch and they couldn't. Oh can they want to touch onto the post? It's gone over the line.
00:35:40Manchester City celebrates. They have taken the lead and it's the first ever goal for City
00:35:47from Max Alain. He made his debut for the club on Wednesday against Brighton having been recalled from a loan
00:35:56spell.
00:35:58Max Alain scores in the FA Cup.
00:36:05Manchester City have not lost a home game in the FA Cup in over a decade and can level the
00:36:11all-time record for a league club in the competition if they make it 16 home wins in a row
00:36:16today.
00:36:18This is Semenho.
00:36:19This is Semenho. Rodri! What a shot! That is from Rodri!
00:36:23He's fully 10 yards outside the penalty area there.
00:36:28It is a first goal of the season for the Spaniard.
00:36:33And it's struck as true as that. No goalkeeper in the world is going to get much closer.
00:36:41Just past the 40th minute of the game. It's 35 minutes since Leo Wilkes had that opportunity for Exeter.
00:36:48It's been all City since there. This is Semenho. Wins the corner kick for his team.
00:36:58Played in by Rea Cherki.
00:37:00Oh, it's been ricocheted in!
00:37:03It came off two bullies just in front of the goal line.
00:37:07As it comes towards Nathan Ackie, alongside him is Jake Doyle-Hayes.
00:37:11Ackie doesn't really respond when the ball hits the net as much as you'd expect for a goal scorer.
00:37:15I think the last touch is off Doyle-Hayes there.
00:37:20Richardson.
00:37:22City with it back on the edge of the penalty area.
00:37:24Makedu to Johnny Reinders has a look to see who's within it's in again.
00:37:28It's four! Four ahead of half-time for Manchester City.
00:37:32This one does look to be an own goal.
00:37:36Given away on the edge of the penalty area by Briarley.
00:37:41After Reinders pulls the ball back, it's in off Jack Fitzwater.
00:37:48Stefan Fui.
00:37:52Reinders to Semenho.
00:37:54Rico Lewis made a good run and that's a great finish.
00:37:58Manchester City making it five, just three minutes into the second period.
00:38:03Reinders to Semenho. What about this for a deliberate?
00:38:06Perfect.
00:38:08Rico Lewis who has given a new two-year contract extension in September.
00:38:12He makes it Manchester City five.
00:38:15Exeter City now.
00:38:18Jerky.
00:38:20Skips away from the attentions of Jake Doyle-Hayes and Jerky picks out Antoine Semenho.
00:38:25Could this be a debut goal?
00:38:29On his first appearance for Manchester City, Antoine Semenho delivers.
00:38:37The first of what City fans hope will be many.
00:38:43Jerky up and running for his Manchester City career after the big money move from Bournemouth.
00:38:48But he is taking it all with grace and with ease.
00:38:52Jerky.
00:38:54Reinders with an important touch.
00:38:55Gets it back again from Mukasa.
00:38:57Now Bonanno Silva.
00:38:59Now Jeremy Ducco.
00:39:03Reinders.
00:39:05Brilliant.
00:39:06Patience pays as Manchester City make it seven.
00:39:11They bided their time.
00:39:13They waited for the moment and then perfectly executed from Tajani Reinders.
00:39:19Manchester City seven.
00:39:21Exeter City nil.
00:39:23They came with hope and expectation.
00:39:26There also would have been lingering some fear and doubt and those fears have been realized today
00:39:32with this emphatic Manchester City performance.
00:39:36Kaido making a little burst.
00:39:38City looking for goal number eight and they get a quarter kick.
00:39:45Kaido taking short again.
00:39:47City have done that a lot today.
00:39:48Here's Riku Lewis.
00:39:51Nico O'Reilly.
00:39:53It is eight.
00:39:56And how accurate is that from Nico O'Reilly?
00:40:01Manchester City matched their achievements of the FA Cup third round a year ago when they put
00:40:07eight passes off at City.
00:40:09Third goal of the campaign in all competitions for Nico O'Reilly.
00:40:14Delays.
00:40:16It's comfortably one back from Manchester City this time by Devine Mukasa.
00:40:20And Mukasa has got support to his right hand side.
00:40:23Ryan McAido gets goal number nine.
00:40:30Ryan McAido matching Andron Semenyo's achievement of scoring on his Manchester City debut.
00:40:38Big moment for the 17-year-old.
00:40:41Mukasa involved in the build-up too.
00:40:44The young guns taking charge.
00:40:46Manchester City need one more to hit double figures now.
00:40:52Winders trying to pick out Cherokee.
00:40:54Intercepted by Jake Doralees.
00:40:57This is young George Birch.
00:41:00Better late than never.
00:41:02What about that for George Birch?
00:41:06It's his first ever senior goal.
00:41:10That is a moment that 19-year-old George Birch will never forget.
00:41:15And the Excellent City fans can talk about that all the way back home on the bus.
00:41:24Jeremy Doku to Jeremy Rinders.
00:41:28What a backheel.
00:41:29Can Doku finish?
00:41:31She's got a detangle in his legs.
00:41:33Following up anyway is Rico Lewis.
00:41:35And Manchester City do hit double figures.
00:41:40The second goal of the game for Rico Lewis.
00:41:44Manchester City striding into the fourth round.
00:41:48After thoroughly dismantling Exeter City here today.
00:41:5510-1.
00:41:56I repeat, 10 for Manchester City.
00:41:59And Antoine Semedio Dion is in great company as well.
00:42:01First player to score and assist a goal on his Manchester City debut in all competitions since
00:42:06Sergio Aguera against Swansea City in August 2011.
00:42:09Not bad.
00:42:10Not bad.
00:42:11It wasn't bad and it looked like he'd been playing with City all his life.
00:42:16He just fitted in, stuck him on the left.
00:42:19And, you know, just little bits that he did.
00:42:21He's a very, very intelligent footballer.
00:42:25Sticking ball in areas like that where Haaland will be.
00:42:28Because Haaland's got to get to nowhere.
00:42:30A little step there, by the way.
00:42:32You like that little step, don't you?
00:42:34Yeah, only because it gives him an extra yard to receive the ball and play his teammate in.
00:42:39Nothing happened on that occasion.
00:42:41But again, he comes in this time because he's not being involved.
00:42:44Sets himself up, gets a shot off and it falls to Rodri.
00:42:48Rodri and Rodri does the rest. But he does more than that, Rod.
00:42:52Yeah, and he can do anything.
00:42:53And he's so unpredictable, which is the hard thing.
00:42:56When you've got someone like him, you've just seen him come inside.
00:42:59And then you just see now you see him stand one player up, go outside him, go outside the next
00:43:03player.
00:43:04And sometimes I just felt that the balls in were a little bit too quick for his teammates.
00:43:08He's looking and he's giving them going here, whereas before he was dribbling.
00:43:12And then that's finally someone's reading that cross.
00:43:15It's a wonderful cross.
00:43:16He doesn't hesitate, which at the top level, rather than standing and wondering
00:43:21and waiting whether he should cross it, he just does it.
00:43:23Look at that for gas.
00:43:24And then there, wow, to go beyond.
00:43:26And there's a fraction where Exeter fell asleep there and he was gone.
00:43:30Where do you chaps think that Semenu fits in in all competitions for Manchester City in that team?
00:43:36As in, how often does he play?
00:43:38How often does he play?
00:43:38He plays.
00:43:39He plays, that's what they've got him for.
00:43:41For that reason, what we've just shown there, the positivity, the end product, making a difference.
00:43:46He plays.
00:43:46Same for you, Rob?
00:43:47Yeah, I think you're looking at someone who can do all that facets from an attacking point.
00:43:52And it's a matter of time before his teammates just go, wow, I've just got to make those runs.
00:43:56Just get in there.
00:43:57I feel so for the right backs.
00:43:58I was going to say, it's a nightmare.
00:44:00Well, it is a nightmare to defend against, isn't it, Rob?
00:44:02It's so hard that you're tucked in, you're tucked narrow.
00:44:06And at times today, you're saying, okay, you're out there on your own.
00:44:09Semenu was out on his own and they just left him.
00:44:12And they were in trouble.
00:44:13Yep, frightening.
00:44:14Still to come, highlights from 18 FA Cup ties.
00:44:16But first, a reminder, plenty of football entertainment on BBC Sounds.
00:44:21Tony was the king of Finchburn.
00:44:22Same of them dressing rooms in the early days.
00:44:24That was lovely.
00:44:29I'm missing football.
00:44:30I want to be in that dressing room in my life.
00:44:32I actually do suffer from stitches and you should breathe for yourself.
00:44:35I'm like, how do you do that?
00:44:37Listen on BBC Sounds.
00:44:41Yeah, some great shows.
00:44:42Five Live also has commentary of Arsenal's trip to Portamouth on Sunday from two o'clock.
00:44:46You can listen on BBC Sounds.
00:44:48Kelly will have highlights of Sunday's eight ties here on BBC One 10.30.
00:44:52If you've missed any of the weekend's Cup action, do not worry.
00:44:55You can catch up on the BBC Sport website and app.
00:44:57Live football from the WSL on the iPlayer, quarter past two on Sunday.
00:45:01Liverpool take on the London City Lionesses and the Masters snooker from Ali Pali gets underway.
00:45:07BBC Two, one o'clock.
00:45:09We shall be watching.
00:45:10Aston Villa flying high in the Premier League.
00:45:12It's another frustrating season for Spurs.
00:45:14Could a cup run spark their season into life?
00:45:17Commentary from Ali Chira and Steve Wilson.
00:45:22Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
00:45:25Neither has lifted this trophy really for far too long.
00:45:2791, Tottenham's last FA Cup win.
00:45:311957, Villa's.
00:45:34Begin to Marlon.
00:45:36Marlon can play it into Buendia.
00:45:38Big chance, great goal.
00:45:40Emiliano Buendia.
00:45:43It's a fabulous finish there.
00:45:45Hammered into the roof of the Tottenham Hotspur net.
00:45:48Thomas Frank's side are behind again.
00:45:51What a brilliant goal that is.
00:45:53So clever the way they work it.
00:45:55Can't give them that much time in midfield to take your time, take a touch and pass.
00:46:01Absolutely sensational.
00:46:021v1 vu, the keeper.
00:46:04Hits it high, pass for Corio.
00:46:06No chance, great finish.
00:46:13Rodgers, little round the cushioned header.
00:46:18Just tell has given it straight to Bogard.
00:46:21That might be a problem for Tottenham.
00:46:23Buendia works it to Daniel Marlon.
00:46:26Buendia again and Rodgers, 2-0.
00:46:32And things go from bad to worse for Tottenham Hotspur and for Thomas Frank.
00:46:40Just watch the belief and the confidence that's running through this Aston Villa team.
00:46:45The way they move it, the way the runners off each other.
00:46:48That little touch there from Buendia into his path.
00:46:52There's still a lot to do, but the way he guides it into the corner.
00:46:56Rodgers, keeper no chance.
00:47:00They simply have to score the next goal in the game.
00:47:03That's a good ball from Matisse Tell.
00:47:05Michal Pellinja, Pedro Coro.
00:47:08Watson closed him down and made the block.
00:47:12Rodgers, Rodgers and Simons.
00:47:16That's a decent save by Pizzo.
00:47:18It's something.
00:47:21And even the reaction over the crowd, Steve, tells you something.
00:47:32Colomuani won it fairly from Lamar Bogard, four in this Tottenham attack.
00:47:36Otterbein, two on it.
00:47:40Exactly what Tottenham needed.
00:47:43Yeah, well done.
00:47:44You can feel it straight away, couldn't you?
00:47:46There's no way that's a foul.
00:47:48He did really well in closing down Moana.
00:47:50Then the pass.
00:47:51Can you find it?
00:47:52And then you're looking for the finish, because that's a good touch.
00:47:55A great finish.
00:47:58They're back, isn't it?
00:47:59And it isn't what a goal can do, isn't it?
00:48:01Yeah.
00:48:03Already you can feel a little bit of a difference in that spot these Spurs fans are craving.
00:48:09Here comes Tottenham again.
00:48:11It shall be Simons!
00:48:18Tottenham Hotspur's best 60 seconds for quite a long time.
00:48:22They might reluctantly take losing Tottenham fans, but they won't take losing limply.
00:48:28And Tottenham have at least given them that in this second half.
00:48:31That's nicely worked.
00:48:32It's cash.
00:48:33And that's a lovely ball.
00:48:35Buendia brilliantly off the line.
00:48:36That could be absolutely crucial.
00:48:39Pedro Poirot off the line.
00:48:41And Pedro Poirot to lash it away from danger again.
00:48:45Just about to see how important could that stop on the line be.
00:48:53And there's a break on here.
00:48:55Lamar Bogart has Morgan Rodgers.
00:48:57Watkins is getting forward as well.
00:48:59Rodgers through Danso and took behind by Van de Ven.
00:49:06But Aston Villa have put their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
00:49:14We've got a very tough spell of games.
00:49:17We need to regroup, continue and put, for example, two very good halves together with massive intensity.
00:49:24And then we need to beat with them.
00:49:27I know you've said before you feel like you're very aligned with the board and everyone here knows what you're
00:49:31trying to achieve.
00:49:32How close are you to achieving it?
00:49:34And do you still feel like you have that support?
00:49:36Yeah, I completely feel that support.
00:49:38No doubt about that.
00:49:39We need to put more and better performance together and keep pushing forward.
00:49:45He's a man under pressure.
00:49:46We'll talk about Thomas Frank in just a moment.
00:49:48But first of all, let's talk about Super John McGinn.
00:49:50Yes, him and him and Buendia dictated play today in the first half.
00:49:55They were brilliant.
00:49:56And it's all about understanding your role and tucking inside when he needed to tuck inside.
00:50:00And Paulini and Gray were the two central midfielders for Tottenham.
00:50:03Just couldn't live with him and his timing of his movement and then his link-up play to the front
00:50:09two.
00:50:09And from there, Villa just completely stole the show.
00:50:13Here again, drifting in between the midfield two, led to Buendia's goal, who was also doing the same from the
00:50:19other side.
00:50:20You come into central positions and just rotated the play at times, Dion.
00:50:25And it was so difficult for Spurs just to pick him up at any moment of the game.
00:50:29He seems to do all the ugly stuff very, very well that nobody else in the team wants to do.
00:50:35But he's also affecting where his teammates are.
00:50:38I mean, this one here, just bouncing the ball, keeping it nice and simple, not complicating it.
00:50:43He's a leader.
00:50:44He makes sure that all his team are accountable for their actions.
00:50:48He's pointing, he's shouting.
00:50:50See how he stops there, gets himself into a really good position, sets his team off again.
00:50:55Tries to squeeze one in the corner, not happening.
00:50:58But with that armband, he is their leader and it works for him.
00:51:03You must be delighted, Dion at the moment with the Villa.
00:51:05Everyone seems to know their role.
00:51:06They're so well coached, aren't they?
00:51:08Yeah, they are, they are.
00:51:08But like Rob's just pointed out there, that's the area that John works in.
00:51:13Yeah.
00:51:13And they know to leave that area for John and it's effective.
00:51:17Right, let's deal with this then.
00:51:18Thomas Frank, man under pressure.
00:51:19Yeah, big.
00:51:20Is he going to be there, May?
00:51:21I don't see it.
00:51:22I don't see how it is, the performances they're putting in.
00:51:25You're saying there's a bit of life today, a response, but it's becoming too often, too
00:51:31few now.
00:51:33Dion, can you see him still being there at the end of the season?
00:51:35If the results carry on like this, he won't be.
00:51:38It's all about results from managers and they keep losing, so it's no good.
00:51:41Okay, thank you.
00:51:42Highlights from another seven third round ties now, starting at Molineux.
00:51:47Perhaps when the draw was made, League Two Shrewsbury Town might have fancied their chances
00:51:52in this.
00:51:53Wolves are still bottom of the Premier League, but unbeaten in three.
00:51:57And Jorgen Strand Larsson flicked them in front early on.
00:52:00He'd gone 13 games without a goal before that.
00:52:0370 places separate these sides, a big gap.
00:52:06And Wolves surged into the space.
00:52:09Colombian Jean Arias made it two a couple of minutes later.
00:52:12Michael Appleton's Shrewsbury have lost four in a row in the league.
00:52:16A relegation scrap looms, but they searched for a way back into the time.
00:52:20Arias was adjudged to have brought down John Marquis.
00:52:23Penalty.
00:52:24And Marquis got up to reduce the deficit.
00:52:27Less than 26 minutes gone, but he grabbed the ball, clearly sensing that Wolves might wobble.
00:52:33But the foundations were not secure at the other end.
00:52:36Keeper Eli Harrison, on loan from Manchester United, didn't spot Strand Larsson.
00:52:40And it's a long way back from there.
00:52:43Wolves are apparently open to selling the Norwegian forward.
00:52:47Some fans have criticised him.
00:52:48But in a difficult season, this was a therapeutic afternoon.
00:52:52Strand Larsson is in, looking for the hat-trick, which he has.
00:52:56Strand Larsson with the treble.
00:52:59His first in over eight years of professional football.
00:53:02The game won, Wolves could enjoy themselves.
00:53:05Fair Lopez had room, had a go.
00:53:08And Wolves still had time to put Rodrigo Gomez in to score the fifth.
00:53:12The old gold has lost some of its shine of late.
00:53:15But by the end, they were bypassing Shrewsbury at will.
00:53:18This was their eighth win in nine against lower league opposition in the cup.
00:53:22Rounded off by Tolu Arakadare, 6-1.
00:53:25And Wolves fans can look forward to the fourth round.
00:53:29The end of the season probably can't come soon enough for Sheffield Wednesday.
00:53:33Marooned at the foot of the championship after a points deduction,
00:53:35destined for League One, and still awaiting new owners.
00:53:39They fell behind when Keane Lewis Potter stole in at the back post.
00:53:43The Bees, fifth in the Premier League, made eight changes,
00:53:46but it didn't hamper their serene progress to round four.
00:53:49Youngster Rommel Donovan was one of those given a start and won a penalty,
00:53:53fouled by Cole McGee.
00:53:54Matthias Jensen went route one from the spot.
00:53:57It's now five wins out of six for Keith Andrews' team,
00:54:00an admirable statistic Wednesday fans can currently only dream of.
00:54:05Fulham have found their groove.
00:54:07They're unbeaten in six in the league,
00:54:08and yet they made seven changes for the meeting with Middlesbrough,
00:54:12second in the championship.
00:54:13And it looked like it might cost them.
00:54:14Borough worked it well.
00:54:16Fulham forgot where Hackney was.
00:54:18Hayden Hackney, 1-0.
00:54:19They held that lead well into the second half,
00:54:22so Fulham sent on Harry Wilson.
00:54:23He's having a great week in a great season,
00:54:25and three minutes after coming on,
00:54:27he scored his third goal in the last three games.
00:54:30It tilted the time.
00:54:32Tom Kearney was another of Fulham's super subs.
00:54:35He played in Emil Smith-Rowe to fire the Premier League side in front
00:54:38in the 77th minute.
00:54:41Borough's chance had passed.
00:54:42Wilson inevitably was involved in Fulham's third.
00:54:45His ball queued up Kevin to score his first for the club.
00:54:48Fulham have never won the FA Cup.
00:54:50Could this be their year?
00:54:54Millwall, battling for promotion in the championship,
00:54:56ventured north with high hopes against Premier League strugglers Burnley
00:55:00without a win in 12 matches.
00:55:01Veteran striker Ashley Barnes made a rare appearance
00:55:04and poached the opening goal.
00:55:06It was like the old days at Turf Moor.
00:55:08These two sides have met just once before in the FA Cup,
00:55:11Millwall winning on their way to the 2004 final.
00:55:14Loom Chauna beat keeper Stephen Bender at his near post to make it two.
00:55:19They were gifted a 3-0 half-time lead after Bender's wayward clearance.
00:55:24Jaden Anthony scored with a first-time finish.
00:55:29Barnes hadn't scored since March, but he used all his penalty box
00:55:33naus to grab his second of the game, after Millwall failed to clear their lines.
00:55:37Burnley, whose only FA Cup triumph came in 1914, had a fifth after more poor defending
00:55:43by the championship team.
00:55:45Jaden Barnell grabbing his first for the club after coming on as a second-half sub.
00:55:50This was welcome respite for the Clarets from their Premier League struggles,
00:55:54but head coach Scott Parker won't have enjoyed the way they lost the ball close to goal,
00:55:59to allow Josh Coburn to run clear and score a late consolation past Max Weiss.
00:56:04A Cup run might just be the tonic Burnley need to revive their campaign.
00:56:10It's been a pretty bleak winter for these two sides.
00:56:13Neither of them have won a game in a month.
00:56:15But someone had to go through and Southampton were determined it would be them.
00:56:19Kuryu Matsuki had the shot, which came out to Cameron Bragg,
00:56:23who'd never scored a senior goal until then.
00:56:26Saints were proving too strong for League One Doncaster.
00:56:29Cameron Archer didn't worry about whether he'd been fouled.
00:56:32He had bigger plans. With the help of a deflection, he made it to his fourth of the season.
00:56:37It's half a century since Southampton won the FA Cup.
00:56:40A repeat would be asking a lot in terms of an anniversary present,
00:56:44but they seemed sure of progressing when Matsuki headed in their third before the break.
00:56:49Especially as Doncaster are hopelessly out of form.
00:56:52And yet, three minutes into the second half, Robbie Gott's corner was nodded in by Matty Pearson.
00:56:57And Donny started to believe.
00:57:00They began to prey on Saints' frailties. Now Owen Bailey worked the ball to Jordan Gibson,
00:57:06who placed in his sixth of the season. 3-2. Still more than half an hour left.
00:57:11A cup tie had broken out. Stoppage time. Doncaster corner. Could they level it?
00:57:23A dramatic finish and a promising start. That was Daniel Perez's Southampton debut.
00:57:31The 2021 FA Cup winners Leicester City have beaten Cheltenham Town 4-0 on the only two previous
00:57:37occasions they've met. Striker Pat Stdacker joined the Foxes after their Wembley Triumph and had never
00:57:43scored in the competition himself. He put that unwanted record to bed with Leicester City's
00:57:47first effort on target. Steffi Mavadidi had set him up for the opener. Leicester's second was all
00:57:53Mavadidi's own work. Skipping inside from the touchline to complete a thoroughly professional
00:57:58performance and ease some of the pressure on under-fire manager Marty Sifuentes.
00:58:05Boreham Wood have become third-round regulars. The National League side have reached this stage in
00:58:10four of the last six seasons. For them, that was where the good news ended. Because from the moment
00:58:14Kyron Lofthouse smashed Burton in front, they didn't look like the out-of-form side they have been.
00:58:20The League One Brewers were two up before the break. This time, debutant Kane Adam's header was
00:58:25diverted in by Boreham Wood's Charlie O'Connell. The Wood have only reached the fourth round once before.
00:58:31It was clearly out of reach here. The free kick dropped by Ted Curd. Fabio Tavares scored Burton's
00:58:37third. This wasn't going to plan for Boreham Wood. They'd been so good at home this season,
00:58:42but were powerless to stop Burton. Dylan Williams scored his first of the season to make it 4-0.
00:58:48Burton had lost their last three without scoring. Maybe they'd been saving it up.
00:58:53JJ McKinnon floated in the fifth, and even they were surprised at how easy this was.
00:59:01So, not to be for Boreham Wood, but what about Western Supermare? The six-tier team have reached
00:59:06the FA Cup third round for the first time in their history. The reward? A 247-mile trip to lead
00:59:13to
00:59:13Grimsby Town. On the East Coast for us, Chris Latcham.
00:59:23Supported by Walker. Into the feet of Warren, who's done really well to turn. Deflected and saved well by
00:59:29Harris down to his left. The ball from Warren was goal bound, and the deflection looked like it was going
00:59:37to
00:59:37carry it into the corner. Western have 11 behind the ball, and Grimsby are continuing to probe, and
00:59:48here's Vernon Flikon is importantly tipped over by Harris. Almost, almost catching out the Western goalkeeper.
01:00:04Vernon Flikon again sends one in, and this time he picks out the top corner.
01:00:13Charles Vernon's had a couple of rangefinders, a couple of testers for Max Harris, but this time the
01:00:19goalkeeper could get nowhere near it.
01:00:27Testing ball for Cameron McJanet, and Cummins felt the contact in the air and wins the free kick.
01:00:35Delicious shooting range, and Coulson has only got one target.
01:00:42Took a deflection, and looped it to the back of the net!
01:00:49Luke Coulson will claim the goal, but without that flick on the way in,
01:00:55Smith would never have been beaten. What a moment for the Western fans behind the goal.
01:01:02Almost like they sucked it into the back of the net.
01:01:09Staunton's touch took him away from goal.
01:01:11But the cross is excellent, right to the far post, and Warren heads over.
01:01:18And now the Grimsby Town fans find their voice. A couple of key chances in the last five minutes.
01:01:23Belief that they've weathered their own particular storm, and now getting back on top of this one.
01:01:29And Rhys Staunton's won a corner, and G's up the fans too.
01:01:38Michael Smith gets the header away, but it still might fall.
01:01:42Kabya has made himself a nuisance, and flicked the ball into the back of the net!
01:01:48Off the bench, and to the rescue for the Mariners!
01:01:53Max Harris beaten for a second time.
01:01:57And Jays Kabya puts the league side 2-1 up.
01:02:09Coulson has room to move into, but Khoury is on his shoulder, and drags him to the grounds.
01:02:16Coulson wasn't happy.
01:02:18He felt he was away here, getting his head up to pick out Robuston, and fell before he could get
01:02:24his pass away.
01:02:26As they tried to drag the Mariners into choppy waters.
01:02:30Coulson nicely worked. Robuston, Britain!
01:02:35Has levelled it up for Weston!
01:02:39Great Britain, they call him!
01:02:41That's his 20th goal of the season!
01:02:45And he's given them hope of reaching round four for the first time!
01:02:50Look what it means to the Seagulls!
01:02:57Sam Levelle can push on with the ball.
01:03:00It's opened up in front of him, the fans wanted him to shoot.
01:03:05Instead, he's picked out Green, and Green picks out Kabya, deflected wide!
01:03:15Desperate defending from the captain.
01:03:20Flicked on, and flicked in!
01:03:24Kieran Green, unchallenged with the header, and just gave it the eyes.
01:03:30The captain, Kieran, has come off the bench, and nodded Grimsby towards round four.
01:03:39We want to put the club on the map. We're trying to do that.
01:03:42We understand that we're still in the fourth tier.
01:03:43I'm not sure Britain West and Supermare are out of the reach that P.T. Manchester United does here,
01:03:48but at the same time, if you're still in the hat, you've got a chance to do that,
01:03:53and that's important for this football club.
01:03:55We're a tough nut to crack.
01:03:57Yeah, they obviously went in front twice, but we come back, and I think that just shows the
01:04:01character of the team, and I said to the boys in there, they've got to get their heads up there.
01:04:05They're sick as a pig in there, no one's speaking, but that tells you about them.
01:04:08They're really disappointed that they haven't come away with something, but
01:04:11I think when they wake up tomorrow morning, they'll realise that's one hell of an effort they put in.
01:04:15Absolutely fair play to West and Supermare. Dion showed fantastic character, but Grimsby Town just
01:04:21showed their EFL class.
01:04:22Yeah, it was, it was unfortunately fitness and know-how and quality of finishing. I mean,
01:04:30two little half volleys, half volley there and a little half volley there. It's a really clever finish.
01:04:35The bounce falls nicely. KB just gets on the end of it and finishes very well, and I think
01:04:41West and Supermare tried their hardest to stay with the attackers to try and compete in the box,
01:04:48but Grimsby's quality was a little bit too much for them, and they couldn't match them with quality
01:04:54and fitness, and they unfortunately came under at the end.
01:04:57Yep, absolutely. Well done to Grimsby Town. So Macclesfield, the only non-league team through
01:05:02to the fourth round draw, which takes place on Monday. The Wrexham revolution continues apace.
01:05:08After three promotions in three seasons, they're now attempting to reach the top flight for the
01:05:12first time in the club's history. On Friday night, they welcome Premier League Nottingham Forest,
01:05:16Cameron Pope. What's the first meeting between these two in more than 30 years?
01:05:22Wrexham prepare to do battle with top-tier opposition for the first time since their
01:05:28rise of the leagues began. Sam Smith is the host's danger man. Goals in both games so far in 2026.
01:05:37Last year's semi-finalists, Nottingham Forest, do not want to be the headline scalp. Still, they make
01:05:42eight changes tonight. Igor Jesus and Amari Hutchinson, the only outfielders to keep their places
01:05:49in the league win at West Ham. The race course remembers the legendary Terry Yorath,
01:05:56the former Wales captain and manager, passed away this week, aged 75.
01:06:03Wrexham enter the FA Cup at this stage for the first time since 1982. Their third round opponents
01:06:11back then, topped here in Nottingham Forest, and that day ended with a cup upset.
01:06:17Back up. Lovely curl on the ball. Oh, and it's come free, and it's Douglas-Louis, and he scores.
01:06:25And Nottingham Forest have the lead, or do they? Wrexham asking the question, I think they think it was handball.
01:06:33What you can see here, just comes off his arm, doesn't it?
01:06:42Doyle's ball.
01:06:47Dobson fighting to win it back, it's cut to Kakache! Oh, he's done it!
01:06:53Liberato Kakache's first goal in Wrexham colours, and look at what it means!
01:07:01A reward for Wrexham's perseverance, Hutchinson lost it, no foul against Dobson.
01:07:07What about the finish as well? And he gets a big bit of help as well, under deflection, off Morata.
01:07:17He goes Jesus with a foot in and then beaten by Doyle. This could get better for Wrexham.
01:07:22Here's Broadhead.
01:07:25Flicking one through, oh, and Rathbone! It's 2-0!
01:07:30Two goals in rapid succession to stun Nottingham Forest!
01:07:37Again, giving away, this time by Igor Jesus. And Wrexham weren't hanging around.
01:07:42Broadhead had his head up. A bit of fortune may be about the way it canons back to Ollie Rathbone.
01:07:49You make your own look though, they say.
01:07:53This is why people buy football clubs.
01:07:58And here goes Jesus again. Stopped by Sam Smith, but without the concession of a free kick.
01:08:04And maybe one chance late in this first half for Forest.
01:08:08Oh, they've gone quickly and inaccurately.
01:08:10And look at Sam Smith while he was inside his own heart.
01:08:14And he's away and surely, oh!
01:08:18What a let-off!
01:08:21And they can't believe it's not three.
01:08:25Down to his club colours.
01:08:27This man doesn't feel the cold, but his side are winning against the Premier League team.
01:08:33Savona.
01:08:35Oh! Off the frame of the goal!
01:08:38And this time it will count!
01:08:42And Igor Jesus has got Nottingham Forest back into this cup time.
01:08:48This ball seemed to hang in the air for an age.
01:08:51It certainly went over the line.
01:08:54Just gets the angle right.
01:08:56Off the inside of the post and despite the best efforts of Doyle.
01:09:00It's certainly a goal.
01:09:02And it was certainly needed.
01:09:06Josh Windas is crossed and straight into Nico Williams.
01:09:11He will have a free kick to follow it up though.
01:09:18Dobson's setting this one up.
01:09:21Oh, they've done it again!
01:09:23Brilliant! Brilliant from Hyde!
01:09:27The definition of bullet headache.
01:09:31One of those balls that's so close to the goalkeeper that if an attacker gets there first, well,
01:09:37they're always good odds.
01:09:39Nobody was going to stop Dom Hyam getting that ball.
01:09:43What a time to get your first goal for the club.
01:09:47And Nottingham Forest, once more, with a quarter of an hour remaining, are left with it all to do.
01:09:55Oh, Hudson, a joy!
01:09:57And back within one.
01:10:01And it didn't take long.
01:10:04There is no rest, no time to switch off against the Premier League team.
01:10:13Nottingham Forest are not done.
01:10:19Very little time remains.
01:10:21Savona.
01:10:23Hudson-Odoi!
01:10:25Fabulous, fabulous finish from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
01:10:30And he might just have rescued Nottingham Forest single-handedly.
01:10:34For the first time since the scoring started, Nottingham Forest are level.
01:10:39And that might well mean, we're set for an extra half an hour.
01:10:48Both sides are giving this game everything.
01:10:52Well, Windas!
01:10:55Saved by Sales, and he had to make himself big there.
01:10:59An enormous chance to re-establish a lead.
01:11:08Oh, McLean's missed!
01:11:10Blaze that one over the top.
01:11:15Igor Jesus.
01:11:18Saved by Oconcroft.
01:11:20And Nottingham Forest cannot take advantage.
01:11:26J. Rodriguez with Wrexham's fifth penalty.
01:11:31Oh, cool as you like.
01:11:36Nottingham Forest's fifth penalty.
01:11:39They trail 4-3.
01:11:42This has to go in.
01:11:44Romare Hutchinson.
01:11:47Facing Arthur Oconcroft.
01:11:50Saved by Oconcroft!
01:11:53These dreams keep getting wilder.
01:11:57Wrexham's epic rise has another big dose of FA Cup fever.
01:12:03It's the championship side who are in to round four.
01:12:07The first half is completely unacceptable.
01:12:09I let the players know.
01:12:10There are certain individuals who certainly know.
01:12:12And they can look in the mirror at that side of things.
01:12:14But the strangeness of football is the players who come on in the second half.
01:12:18I thought they were a credit.
01:12:19You know, and we went on and looked like a Premier League side.
01:12:21It's a big night for the club.
01:12:22It really is.
01:12:23You know, I'm just pleased for this group of players to write their bit of history
01:12:27in the FA Cup for the club.
01:12:29Had you practiced penalties?
01:12:30Had you thought about it before this game?
01:12:31Yes, we did actually.
01:12:32We practiced them yesterday.
01:12:33And, you know, it's always key to just go through and get everybody just that bit of confidence.
01:12:39And, you know, the lad's struck them well.
01:12:41But Arthur, you know, is the hero tonight.
01:12:44Congratulations to Phil Parkinson and Rob.
01:12:46Arthur Oconcroft.
01:12:47He needed that, especially after that howler in the championship.
01:12:51Just before Christmas.
01:12:52I knew you'd bring that up.
01:12:53He has the night of his life and you bring up a mistake like that.
01:12:57This is reporting.
01:12:58It's journalism.
01:12:58It's important.
01:12:59It's a brilliant night for him.
01:13:00It was a really hectic 120 minutes, wasn't it?
01:13:04And he kept his composure throughout just to back him up.
01:13:07And what an evening for him.
01:13:08He had wonderful footwork in there for one save with this.
01:13:11And then you're looking at when you can composure.
01:13:14When your team needs you and you come through strong.
01:13:17He had a little bit of luck with this save, pushing it back out.
01:13:20And then the rebound off the studs of his boots, basically.
01:13:23And when your luck's in, it's in as a keeper.
01:13:25And he was just a credit throughout the night.
01:13:28Because he had seven saves in the whole game.
01:13:30And he let in some goals.
01:13:31But the saves in the penalty shootout go in with real conviction.
01:13:35And this is the one, I think, for the winning penalty save.
01:13:37Look how far he goes beyond the post.
01:13:40And once he saves it, the power that goes through it, he gets beyond the post.
01:13:45If you're going to go, go with conviction.
01:13:48And even Arthur Oconco went with conviction.
01:13:50It was brilliant.
01:13:51We love goalkeepers, don't we, Dion?
01:13:52Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:13:53I think so.
01:13:54I think so.
01:13:55I think so.
01:13:56But also, Danny Ward is coming back into contention.
01:13:59He got injured in August.
01:14:00Big money signing, of course.
01:14:01And he's coming back.
01:14:02So, in many ways, things are happening for Wrexham in the cup and also in the league.
01:14:06I mean, they could make the Premier League.
01:14:07This story is incredible.
01:14:08Should be turned into some sort of documentary.
01:14:10It keeps on rolling and rolling.
01:14:13Ryan Reynolds enjoyed it.
01:14:15I was in Wrexham just before Christmas.
01:14:16And they were telling me what it's done for the town.
01:14:19It's absolutely incredible.
01:14:20The buzz is amazing.
01:14:22My two best mates were there at the game in a box below Ryan Reynolds.
01:14:26And they kept looking up.
01:14:27And every time they looked up, he was dancing.
01:14:29And then he had his sunglasses on.
01:14:30And he was hugging people.
01:14:32Then he would have a costume change.
01:14:35And then he's got his, you know, and he just seemed to enjoy himself.
01:14:38He seems to, he's invested in this.
01:14:40You know, he's really involved in getting this team to as hard as they possibly can,
01:14:45to achieve as much as they possibly can.
01:14:48And look at him.
01:14:49He's, you know, he's animated.
01:14:51And all the fans can see him doing that.
01:14:54Dion, you make a great point there.
01:14:55You know, he's invested in it.
01:14:56Not just financially.
01:14:57No.
01:14:57But you can see what him and Rob have done.
01:14:59Correct.
01:14:59They've done it emotionally.
01:15:00They're very much in the football club and in the town, Rob.
01:15:03It makes them feel alive.
01:15:04And they're just like any other fan.
01:15:06They're there, living it.
01:15:07Absolutely.
01:15:07Living the dream.
01:15:09Thank you very much indeed.
01:15:10All right.
01:15:11Heading into this weekend.
01:15:12Neither Everton or Sunderland had won a match in 2026.
01:15:15Could the Cup provide a fresh start?
01:15:17Commentary from Simon Grayson and Daniel Mann.
01:15:24An all-Premier League tie full of intrigue.
01:15:30And Tarkovsky does make the first contact.
01:15:32Armstrong!
01:15:34Armstrong just doesn't get his body and his knee over the ball
01:15:38and slices it over the top with a big opportunity for Everton.
01:15:44Long throw could be a route to success.
01:15:47It's been on a few occasions.
01:15:49Well, not dealt with with great conviction.
01:15:51Le Fay!
01:15:53Well, he takes full advantage and Sunderland have won in this third round tie.
01:16:00Everton didn't deal well enough with the the long throw in,
01:16:03but take Nothik away from Le Fay.
01:16:05That's a fantastic finish on the volley.
01:16:08Side-footed as well.
01:16:11Sunderland in good voice in the stands and in a terrific position on the pitch.
01:16:17Xhaka's corner of Le Fay arriving on the near post.
01:16:19Just peaked into it.
01:16:21Spectacular!
01:16:22And Pickford able to make the save!
01:16:24To Dinai Mukilic.
01:16:27Well, it's an unbelievable overhead kick and Pickford gets across really quickly.
01:16:34Garner negotiating the situation neatly in tight space,
01:16:37but Serkin first to show.
01:16:40Mundell coming inside!
01:16:42And Pickford flying across again.
01:16:46Shows the capabilities and why is England number one's goalkeeper?
01:16:50By getting across and having a strong left hand.
01:16:55Here's McNeil.
01:16:57Armstrong.
01:16:59Through one challenge.
01:17:02Paterson to hang it up.
01:17:03Beto, was he impeded?
01:17:06Was there a tug of the shirt?
01:17:11Beto's looking for it.
01:17:13Both holding on to each other.
01:17:14I think Beto's got hold of Trehune's shirt as well.
01:17:21This is Asnu's first involvement.
01:17:24A chance to rein one in with a left foot,
01:17:26and it could have been very inviting,
01:17:27but Granit Xhaka with some brilliant positioning.
01:17:29We'll look at the drive and determination from the debutant here.
01:17:32Asnu goes down, wants a penalty, he'll get it.
01:17:36Well, talk about impact substitution.
01:17:40Massive moment, and what an impact by the fire.
01:17:44James Garner accepts the weighty responsibility to try and keep Everton in the FA Cup.
01:17:52And he's more than up to it.
01:17:55Well, Sandler will howl long into the night with some justification
01:17:59about the merits of that decision.
01:18:02But James Garner not worrying about that,
01:18:04and producing the kind of coolness that's now customary.
01:18:14Maybe a little sign of tiredness there from Sunderland.
01:18:17It's Tieno Barry.
01:18:19And he's found Beto.
01:18:22And Beto only finds the side netting.
01:18:33Sunderland looking bright.
01:18:34Is it all feeding Hume?
01:18:37Le Fay's up with him.
01:18:41Xhaka on his favoured foot.
01:18:44And Tarkovsky in the way this time.
01:18:51So, James Garner.
01:18:55Robin Roofs makes the save.
01:19:02So it's Enzo Le Fay.
01:19:06No doubts, no dramas, Pickford guesses right.
01:19:11Massive presence of Roofs in front of him.
01:19:14And Roofs is turning into Sunderland's hero.
01:19:19And a tale of regret for Tieno Barry.
01:19:24Granit Xhaka.
01:19:26And spot on.
01:19:30Pickford barely had time to register that it had been taken.
01:19:34Well, one striker fails.
01:19:38Another needs to score.
01:19:40And Beto doesn't score.
01:19:42And Sunderland a one kick away.
01:19:48But one of Sunderland's great characters has a chance to win this FA Cup tie.
01:19:55Against one of Sunderland's greatest products.
01:20:00And he does.
01:20:01And you couldn't win it any more emphatically than that.
01:20:06And it's a day of triumph for the Black Cats in the FA Cup.
01:20:12Before the penalties went, the goalkeeper coach comes to me.
01:20:15He shows me a little bit where they expect him to shoot.
01:20:19What is their preferred side, which foot they are.
01:20:22I think if you save three penalties out of three, I don't want to call it a hero.
01:20:27Because I could have been a hero if I saved it in the game.
01:20:29But no, it's a nice way to help the team.
01:20:33Rob, I promise you we will praise the goalkeeping in just a moment.
01:20:36After we just tidy up the penalty for Everton.
01:20:39What are you thinking, Dion?
01:20:40The no penalty.
01:20:43Yeah, Hulme on Asnu here.
01:20:45I mean, Asnu puts a cross and then he goes to retrieve it again.
01:20:48He gets involved in the tackle.
01:20:50And then there's a little bit of contact right there.
01:20:53I don't know what the referee's seen.
01:20:55It's just shoulder to shoulder.
01:20:57It's never, ever a penalty.
01:21:00If there was a VAR, they would have, you know, taken it away.
01:21:04It's just really, really poor refereeing.
01:21:06And Xhaka's not happy.
01:21:08Not happy at all.
01:21:09As you can see.
01:21:10Yeah, that cup was never seen again.
01:21:12No, in pieces.
01:21:14Let's talk about Rob Roof.
01:21:15He's having a great season, isn't he, Rob?
01:21:16Yeah, brilliant.
01:21:17So composed, so calm.
01:21:18And he was so calm in these penalties as well.
01:21:20So he's just having a chat with the goalkeeper, Kozki Cutler.
01:21:23And he's just having a, where they've been.
01:21:25But he had a little hand up before because he'd already faced one of the penalty takers.
01:21:29And the thing is, when the guys are walking up and doing this slow motion, you've got to wait.
01:21:35You've got to wait for them to move, to blink first, basically.
01:21:39And that's what he does.
01:21:40And they're terrible penalties.
01:21:42That one, and Beto's, and really poor penalties.
01:21:44But he's waiting and making them be poor penalties.
01:21:47Because he's just keeping his calm, keeping his nerve.
01:21:51Great goalkeeping.
01:21:52Brilliant stuff.
01:21:53Right, finally, all the goals from the seven other third-round ties played across Friday and today.
01:22:00Championship promotion contenders clashed at the Bet365 Stadium,
01:22:04with Stoke City fans hoping their team could exploit the leaders' Coventry City's recent stuttering form.
01:22:10Coventry famously won this trophy in 1987, knocking out Stoke en route to the final.
01:22:15They struck the post twice in the space of seven minutes after their marked improvement following the interval.
01:22:21First, Haji Wright's header came back off the woodwork with the goal gaping.
01:22:25Then, Jack Radoni's deflected effort clipped defender Ashley Phillips' leg,
01:22:30before meeting a similar fate.
01:22:32Frank Lampard's Sky Blues would rue those missed opportunities.
01:22:36See, say, oh!
01:22:40Astonishing!
01:22:41Again, screaming out for a goal, has just had one of the highest quality!
01:22:48Progress for Mark Robbins in the Cup, and revenge for their narrow defeat in the league in November.
01:22:55These two sides will hope to be in the championship promotion race this season.
01:22:59Plenty of changes for both of the two.
01:23:01Bristol City made fewer, and started better.
01:23:04Inside two minutes, Emil Rees headed them in front.
01:23:08Compared to Watford, City have been inconsistent in the league, but it was all in sync here.
01:23:13This time, Rees spotted Anis Mehmeti, who made it two.
01:23:17It was one of those days when everything came off the city.
01:23:20Scott Twine sent in a cross, which Rob Atkinson got to before the Watford keeper.
01:23:25Three-nil.
01:23:26And two minutes later, they were in a game.
01:23:28How's this for a pass from Neto Borgias?
01:23:31Rees did the rest.
01:23:32That was four.
01:23:33Watford had largely been spectators at this point.
01:23:36They did belatedly get involved.
01:23:38Jack Greaves with a goal that barely qualified as a consolation,
01:23:41because the Robins weren't done yet.
01:23:47Earthy.
01:23:48What a lovely ball.
01:23:49Chance for a hat-trick here.
01:23:50Rees keeps his feet.
01:23:51Keeps his composure.
01:23:53His best of the lot.
01:23:555-1.
01:23:56Bristol City swagger through.
01:23:59Ipswich Town and Blackpool have met just once before in the FA Cup,
01:24:03which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Tractor Boys back in 2010.
01:24:07Kieran McKenna made seven changes from their last league outing,
01:24:10but understandably stuck with top scorer Jadon Filagene,
01:24:13who responded with a quality finish to open the scoring.
01:24:18Filagene!
01:24:19And the championship side lead!
01:24:21The home team were dominant throughout with over 70% possession
01:24:24and 31 attempts on goal,
01:24:27but they were unable to add a second until three minutes from time.
01:24:30Jacob Greaves headed in from the corner.
01:24:34Six minutes into injury time, Blackpool won a penalty.
01:24:40Ashley Fletcher's spot kick was a mere consolation.
01:24:49It was decidedly January in Cambridge.
01:24:52There's a cup tie over there somewhere.
01:24:55And Birmingham City began brightly in the murk.
01:24:58First, they tried to craft it,
01:25:00and then Kai Wagner decided to blast it.
01:25:04His first goal in just his second game since joining from Philadelphia Union.
01:25:09League 2 Cambridge United hadn't lost at home since September.
01:25:13They're 11 unbeaten here.
01:25:15But Birmingham caught them on their heels.
01:25:17Kyogo Furuhashi had only scored once since joining the Blues.
01:25:21But this is the kind of finish Celtic fans remember him for.
01:25:24Cambridge offered Birmingham more charity in the second half.
01:25:27So much space for Marvin Dutch to score City's third.
01:25:31And it seemed that would be that.
01:25:33But the Hughes, 40 places below the Blues, decided to make things interesting.
01:25:38In the 80th minute, Salai Kaikai got one back.
01:25:41And as the clock ticked towards 90, the fourth tier side hoisted one high.
01:25:46Thing's not over yet. It is a deep one.
01:25:48And Kaikai! It is 3-2!
01:25:51But Cambridge had left it a little too late.
01:25:55MK dons and Oxford United players don George Baldock Foundation t-shirts
01:25:59before their poignant FA Cup third round tie.
01:26:02The former defender, who graced both clubs, tragically drowned 15 months ago.
01:26:08Oxford's new boss, Matt Bloomfield, watching from the stands,
01:26:10got an insight into what lies ahead as the Championship's
01:26:13strugglers deservedly fell behind.
01:26:18After Aaron Collins' opener,
01:26:20Will Lancashire equalised for Oxford early in the second half.
01:26:24Injury time couldn't settle it.
01:26:25And after Jonathan Lico's wayward spot kick,
01:26:28the visitors took full advantage in the shootout.
01:26:31Have to find the back of the net here.
01:26:35And he hasn't!
01:26:36And it's Matt Ingram sending the ewes into the fourth round of the FA Cup.
01:26:45It is, believe it or not, nearly 13 years since Wigan Athletics' FA Cup triumph.
01:26:51Much has happened since to the Latics.
01:26:53For teenager Harrison Bertone, that's most of his lifetime.
01:26:56Time, perhaps, to make new cup memories.
01:27:00Bertone.
01:27:02Cuts in.
01:27:03There's a deflection!
01:27:04And it's in!
01:27:061-0 up against Championship Preston North End.
01:27:09And now Wigan of the division below had a chance for another.
01:27:12Penalty.
01:27:13Wigan had got through both previous rounds in shootouts.
01:27:17Callum Wright could settle it.
01:27:19Anxious times now for Wright and for Wigan.
01:27:23Preston with the last attack of the match.
01:27:26Alfie Devine's header.
01:27:27Sam Tickle's remarkable save.
01:27:29And had Brad parts equalised.
01:27:32Offside.
01:27:33Wigan's cup run goes on.
01:27:37Hats off to the Vale Park ground staff for ensuring this tie went ahead.
01:27:42Hats on for those braving the weather at the first FA Cup meeting between Port Vale and Fleetwood.
01:27:47The home side took the lead in first half stoppage time.
01:27:51And Cole is driving into the penalty box.
01:27:54He squares it.
01:27:55Brilliant opening goal.
01:27:56Port Vale go into the fourth round for the first time since 2014.
01:27:59And a new boss, John Brady.
01:28:03And good luck to John in his new job.
01:28:05Thanks to Patrick Eary and Damian Johnson for rounding up all the action for us tonight.
01:28:08Salford City's game with Swindon Town was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
01:28:11Rescheduled a week on Tuesday.
01:28:1492 goals so far this weekend.
01:28:15Nine more ties still to come.
01:28:17On Sunday, old rivals Derby County and Leeds United meet at lunchtime.
01:28:21Portsmouth welcome leaders of the Premier League Arsenal.
01:28:24There's a London derby between West Ham United and Queen's Park Rangers.
01:28:27And Darren Fletcher takes charge of Manchester United for a second time
01:28:30when they play Brighton Hove Albion.
01:28:32Highlights on match of the day.
01:28:33Half past ten.
01:28:34Liverpool and Barnsley round up the weekend on Monday night.
01:28:37You can see highlights of that and all the weekend's FA Cup goals on the BBC Sports website and app.
01:28:41My thanks to Rob and Dion.
01:28:43They were smooth, but not as smooth as the Silkman.
01:28:46Good night.
01:28:48Other round?
01:28:49Sunny.
01:28:50Two hands.
01:28:54One land.
01:28:55They were dying.
01:28:59One day.
01:29:03Two conditions.
01:29:05One day.
01:29:06One night.
01:29:08One day.
01:29:08One this time they must go inside and they'rebedingtain and
01:29:08not as good as a Canadian human.
01:29:08How they're going inside.
01:29:09Quality and efforts did you want to actually lift up the other people's
