00:00:01Oh, look at that!
00:00:03Absolutely phenomenal!
00:00:05Rudy!
00:00:07Welcome to Match of the Day.
00:00:50Well, it may be dry January for some, but our cup overfloweth on Match of the Day tonight.
00:00:55Six games from a brizzy Premier League Sunday,
00:00:58as well as December's Goal of the Month and all the goals from yesterday.
00:01:01And joining me, Shea Given and making his Match of the Day debut, Gary O'Neill,
00:01:05who scored twice on his Premier League debut,
00:01:07so we are hoping for a similar performance tonight.
00:01:09Yeah, it went all downhill from there, but yeah, it was a good start.
00:01:12No pressure, no pressure.
00:01:13A win for Arsenal yesterday opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the table.
00:01:18Manchester City were looking to reduce that gap against managerless Chelsea,
00:01:21who parted company with Enzo Mareska on New Year's Day.
00:01:24Steve Wilson was at the Etihad.
00:01:28In his long managerial career in three countries,
00:01:31Pep Guardiola has never gone successive seasons without winning a league title.
00:01:36That record is under threat.
00:01:38They sit seven points behind Arsenal.
00:01:40It's eight seasons since Chelsea were champions,
00:01:43in which time they've had six full-time managers.
00:01:46Another is incoming.
00:01:48City make three changes to the eleven which drew at Sunderland on New Year's Day.
00:01:53In come Guardiola, Rodri and Reinders for Ake, Nico Gonzalez and Savinho.
00:01:59Callum McFarlane's time in charge of Chelsea will be short,
00:02:03but he makes five changes to the draw with Bournemouth.
00:02:06Caicedo is suspended again.
00:02:08Sanchez injured, Fofana ill.
00:02:10In come Jürgensen, Badia Schiel, James, Pedro Neto and Jrau Pedro.
00:02:17Chelsea have lost eight of their last ten games in this stadium in all competitions.
00:02:22And I don't think many people would favour them here today.
00:02:28Estevão for Chelsea finds Enzo Fernandes.
00:02:31Pedro Neto is on.
00:02:32Here he is.
00:02:37Matthias Nunez ahead of him.
00:02:39Good ball in that and a chance for Estevão.
00:02:42It's blocked really well by Guardiola.
00:02:46That's the best chance of the game so far and it goes Chelsea's way.
00:02:50And now Manchester City have the situation under control.
00:02:55And that's a great ball from Matthias Nunez.
00:02:57What a pass that is.
00:02:58Erling Haaland arriving.
00:03:00Phil Foden arriving.
00:03:01Here's Foden.
00:03:03Brilliantly done.
00:03:06Well, this would have been a sensational counter-attacking goal.
00:03:10Great awareness by Foden.
00:03:14Well, they've done really well, Chelsea.
00:03:16They've defended sturdily.
00:03:22Bernardo Silva trying to twist Gusto.
00:03:27And he's succeeded in doing so.
00:03:29And he gets the shot away.
00:03:32Well, great work in a very small area from Bernardo Silva.
00:03:37Manages to work that bit of space quite beautifully.
00:03:41Gets a bit of curl, but not enough dip.
00:03:50Cherokee's header, Rodri, Foden, Haaland.
00:03:54Deflected!
00:03:56And really well saved by Jürgensen.
00:03:59That big deflection could well have looped over the top of the Chelsea keeper.
00:04:05But he's adjusted here to make a very good save, Philip Jürgensen.
00:04:21Heavy touch from Achenpong, but Rhys James is there.
00:04:24He's only held it up.
00:04:27Rodri...
00:04:28And Erling Haaland!
00:04:30Oh!
00:04:31Goodness me!
00:04:33You don't get any closer than that.
00:04:37Chelsea get a throw in.
00:04:41And the post gets a rattling from Haaland.
00:04:45Oh, brilliant really.
00:04:48Very unlucky.
00:04:49And his next goal will be his 150th for the club.
00:04:54It won't be long in coming, that's for sure.
00:05:03Chelsea have given the ball away.
00:05:05And Cherokee exchanges a touch with Rodri.
00:05:11Badia Shields touch.
00:05:14Reinders!
00:05:15Yes!
00:05:18Great finish.
00:05:21That is a pretty devastating finish from Tijani Reinders.
00:05:26And Manchester City break the deadlock.
00:05:29With four minutes of the first half remaining.
00:05:32Well, this really is a splendid goal.
00:05:36Haaland the threat, Badia Shield kept it from him,
00:05:38but played it straight into Reinders.
00:05:41Is there a little flick off the Chelsea defender as it goes in?
00:05:46Reinders hits it beautifully.
00:05:49Might just be a touch off the toe of Badia Shield.
00:05:53But it flew into the roof of the net.
00:05:56And Manchester City lead by a goal to nil.
00:06:01O'Reilly's cushioned header down.
00:06:03Gusto's nicked it away from Rodri.
00:06:06Well won back by Guardiol.
00:06:08Now Rodri.
00:06:15And Cole Palmer.
00:06:17Guardiol is down.
00:06:19Enzo Fernandes to Palmer's left.
00:06:21And he plays him in.
00:06:22Enzo Fernandes.
00:06:23Lovely little pirouette.
00:06:25And Pedro Neto has missed it.
00:06:27With the goal gaping.
00:06:29And it really should be one each.
00:06:33Well, Guardiol was on the ground throughout that whole Chelsea attack.
00:06:37Which should have resulted in an equalising goal.
00:06:42Enzo Fernandes did well here.
00:06:46And Pedro Neto simply has to get that on target.
00:06:55Enzo Fernandes got a boot in, but Bernardo Silva would not be denied.
00:06:59Erling Haaland here.
00:07:01Great pace.
00:07:02Tearing away from Canaba.
00:07:04Brilliant run, Gablon.
00:07:08Haaland still.
00:07:15And O'Reilly has failed to keep the ball in play.
00:07:19I'll talk about explosive here.
00:07:22Erling Haaland.
00:07:23Collecting the ball.
00:07:24A couple of metres inside his own half.
00:07:27And just driving on with enormous threat.
00:07:32Good block by Badia Shield.
00:07:35Gianluigi Donnarumma forward to Erling Haaland.
00:07:38Beautifully cushioned.
00:07:40Cherki.
00:07:40He's got the pace to get away from Santos.
00:07:43Bernardo Silva's there.
00:07:44Brilliant recovery from Harto.
00:07:47Well, that's outstanding.
00:07:50Great flick here from Erling Haaland.
00:07:53Good pace by Cherki.
00:07:54Too much for Andre Santos.
00:07:56Look how much ground Jor-El Harto made up.
00:08:07Dilap and Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandes getting forward.
00:08:11Here's Jor-El Harto.
00:08:19And Dilap.
00:08:20Good turn.
00:08:21Tight angle.
00:08:22Donnarumma save.
00:08:24And those nagging doubts about these three points from Manchester City continue.
00:08:30Chelsea have arguably been the more dangerous side in the second half.
00:08:34Well snubbered by the Italian.
00:08:40Certainly some anxiety around the Etihad right now as Enzo Fernandes
00:08:47finds Pedro Neto.
00:08:50And Jor-El Harto.
00:08:52Harto's cross missed by Cole Palmer.
00:08:55And Dilap couldn't get anything really meaningful on it.
00:09:01That was a real opportunity for Cole Palmer.
00:09:05Chelsea have taken only two points from their last eight league games against Manchester City.
00:09:09They still live in hope of getting one from this.
00:09:13Rhys James.
00:09:14Six minutes were indicated.
00:09:15Three of them have been played.
00:09:17Here's Gusto.
00:09:18Oh, excellent.
00:09:19Got away from O'Reilly.
00:09:20There's four in the middle for Chelsea.
00:09:22Gusto.
00:09:23Dilap couldn't get there.
00:09:24Surely from Enzo Fernandes for Chelsea.
00:09:26It's 1-1 in stoppage time.
00:09:31And you cannot say they don't deserve it.
00:09:35Donnarumma is beaten.
00:09:38Fernandes scores.
00:09:39Chelsea and Arsenal celebrate an Enzo Fernandes equaliser.
00:09:46There is a check, of course, possible offside.
00:09:52Enzo Fernandes, at the second attempt,
00:09:56trodded it into the back of the net.
00:09:59And the goal will stand.
00:10:02It's Manchester City 1-1.
00:10:05Chelsea 1-1.
00:10:08Pep, very frustrating finish to the game.
00:10:10It felt like the control got away from you a little bit.
00:10:13Because first half, you were 1-0 up.
00:10:17It could have been more.
00:10:18The control go away?
00:10:19For what?
00:10:19Well, I felt you were completely in control of the game at half-time.
00:10:24And they changed shape a little bit.
00:10:26And the momentum of the game changed a bit.
00:10:29I'm not agreeing.
00:10:30But it's OK.
00:10:31They scored a goal.
00:10:31That's why you analyse the results.
00:10:34Of course, they make a step up.
00:10:35We make it more intense in the pressing.
00:10:37They had the chances because we lost two balls
00:10:40in the beginning of the second half.
00:10:41But if you believe they achieved the momentum,
00:10:45OK.
00:10:46Maybe you know better than me.
00:10:47We started really well, especially the first half.
00:10:50The second half, it was a bit more open.
00:10:51It went more up and down.
00:10:52And still, we created some big opportunities.
00:10:55And yeah, disappointed that we conceded the goal so late.
00:11:00So we all know the week we've had.
00:11:02But the boys were focused.
00:11:03And yeah, in life, you either drop your heads or you keep going.
00:11:07And for us, we knew what the game plan was today.
00:11:10We knew what we wanted.
00:11:11And yeah, we'd done well to get the point.
00:11:13It's credit to the players.
00:11:15Like, imagine what they're feeling at half-time.
00:11:18Manchester City were the much better team in the first half.
00:11:20Interim coach.
00:11:21All the change that's gone on.
00:11:22All the injuries we've had.
00:11:24But the character they've shown.
00:11:25And they've shown it all week.
00:11:26Like, Rhys, Enzo, Tosin.
00:11:28Like, the leaders in the group have really pulled it together.
00:11:31So it's a special, special group of players.
00:11:34A frustrated Pep Guardiola there.
00:11:36Because City have dropped four points in their last two matches.
00:11:39But Callum McFarlane there had a game plan to frustrate them.
00:11:42And it worked largely in the first half.
00:11:44Yeah, a rookie manager.
00:11:45You know, one chance in a lifetime to manage against Pep Guardiola perhaps.
00:11:48Away at the Etihad.
00:11:49Nothing to lose.
00:11:50But he had a game plan.
00:11:50He definitely had.
00:11:51And City couldn't find a way through.
00:11:53They did eventually with rounders.
00:11:54But at the same time, this was the game plan here.
00:11:56We've seen this for most of the first half.
00:11:58You see a 5-4-1 formation, Gabby.
00:12:00And now you're asking City, are they good enough to play through these lines?
00:12:04Play through the first.
00:12:05They're really nice and compact.
00:12:06And you know Callum McFarlane would have worked on this.
00:12:08You know, leading up to the game.
00:12:09It's a big day for him.
00:12:10But again, there's a lot of turmoil, as he says, at the football club.
00:12:12But there's a clear message.
00:12:13You see the 5 again.
00:12:15This time, Rinders receives the ball.
00:12:18Achimpong jumps out.
00:12:20But you see then, this opportunity, they do get in.
00:12:22But again, they've got enough players back in a defensive position to clear the danger.
00:12:26You see in the middle, we'll see Haaland.
00:12:27You know, 2v1, there's plenty of bodies back.
00:12:29Enough to defend the cross.
00:12:31And again, they look comfortable for long periods of the first half.
00:12:34Defending against a Manchester City, who we know how good they are going forward.
00:12:38I said to Gary Offer, I said, at some stage you'll have to feel a punch when you go to
00:12:41Manchester.
00:12:42You see here, they commit six bodies forward, Gabby.
00:12:45That's great if you can get a shot off or get a goal.
00:12:47But what it does do, if you won the tackle, which they do in the edge of the box, now
00:12:50you're bang in trouble.
00:12:51They do get away because they won the tackle high up the pitch.
00:12:54And they think they've escaped the danger.
00:12:56But they never got back into that 5-4-1 formation that we spoke about just previously.
00:13:01And City, again, we know how decisive they are in the forward positions.
00:13:04They move the ball really quickly, get forward.
00:13:06And again, there's a bit of luck at the end of this because it comes off the defender.
00:13:09You see a 4v4 high up the pitch.
00:13:11They're really stretched now at this point, Chelsea.
00:13:13But they nearly get away.
00:13:14A bit of luck, a bit of a break.
00:13:16And you think Reinders on your left foot.
00:13:18You know, it's a brilliant finish from him because he's right-footed.
00:13:20And it's a fantastic finish.
00:13:21But again, defensively, I think Chelsea were really strong today in that first half.
00:13:26Pep might have alluded to that.
00:13:27He didn't think there was a momentum shift, but we certainly think there was one.
00:13:30Because 1-0 down at half-time, McFarlane wasn't afraid to make tactical changes.
00:13:34No, I think fair play to him because the easiest part of a manager's job is when you've got time.
00:13:38So when you've got the week to build your prep, like the bit that Shea's just covered there,
00:13:42you've got days to work on that on the training ground.
00:13:44But when it's match day and it's half-time and you're 1-0 down and you need to make a
00:13:47call,
00:13:48he didn't back out of making that call.
00:13:50You know, to take Esteval off, to shift the shape.
00:13:53You can see it here.
00:13:53They've moved Gusto back into his high right-back position rather than being on the left.
00:13:59Esteval has been withdrawn.
00:14:00They've put Santos on to play in that double pivot.
00:14:02And it's allowed Enzo to play higher up the pitch.
00:14:05And then he used that freedom, Enzo, to cause Man City real problems.
00:14:08You see here they regain the ball.
00:14:10Cole Palmer rolled in off this right-hand side like he did so well against PSG in the Club World
00:14:14Cup.
00:14:15And now Enzo just using that running power.
00:14:17You know, and he's able to break forward and show great quality.
00:14:20And then Neto will be disappointed with that
00:14:22because I know he's better than that from those areas.
00:14:24And then the introduction of Liam de Lap as well had a real impact on the game.
00:14:28Caused the centre-backs of Manchester City problems.
00:14:31You see Enzo again here with that running power driving the team forward.
00:14:34Wouldn't have been able to do that in the first half from the lower position he was in.
00:14:37Bit of a longer clip, but they managed to sustain the pressure.
00:14:40Get Enzo on the ball again in a high position and a great ball into Liam de Lap.
00:14:44And he did cause the centre-backs problems when he came on Liam.
00:14:47Although Manchester City did lose their two in Guardiola and in Diaz,
00:14:52they did cause the two that came on real problems.
00:14:56And then Gusto, high right back.
00:14:57He's much better on that side than he is on the left.
00:15:0094th minute, Enzo still using his power and his running power to get himself in a position
00:15:05that allows Chelsea to take a well-earned point away from the Etihad,
00:15:09which is no mean feat for an interim manager on his first day in charge.
00:15:13Yeah, his sixth goal of the season. Look what it means to him there.
00:15:15And there were some lovely scenes at the end as well.
00:15:16We saw with Rhys James obviously making him go over to the Chelsea fans.
00:15:20And you can see as a manager that must be enormously gratifying
00:15:23when you see the difference your changes have made.
00:15:25Yeah, and that should not be underestimated because that's difficult.
00:15:28He alluded to it in his post-match speech there around how the players would be feeling.
00:15:33You know, you've been completely dominated by Manchester City who just do that to teams.
00:15:37And then to be able to make a change and be able to make the players believe in that change,
00:15:41and then to produce numbers like that, XG, shots, everything up, touches in the opposition box.
00:15:46So Pep might not have felt the momentum change quite so much,
00:15:50but the stats definitely showed that there was one.
00:15:52Yeah, it might be a short tenure as interim manager because reports are,
00:15:56and we understand that, Liam Rossini is already in London,
00:15:59ready to be announced as Chelsea manager tomorrow.
00:16:01The Strasbourg manager currently where he's been managing and doing fairly well, Shea as well.
00:16:07153 matches in his managerial career today, including Hull.
00:16:11So not the most experienced.
00:16:13No, but I think this is Liam's dream.
00:16:15I think all his life is that he's managed at the very highest level.
00:16:17And at Chelsea is one of the biggest jobs you'll get in the Premier League,
00:16:21and maybe in world football.
00:16:22And I think he's ready.
00:16:23You say he's managed 153 games.
00:16:25He's done his apprenticeship and he's ready to go.
00:16:27He managed a young Strasbourg team as well.
00:16:29Got them into European competition.
00:16:31And I think he'll be buzzing.
00:16:34You talk about the squad of players that Chelsea have.
00:16:36I know they've spent a lot of money, but they've spent well.
00:16:39He's worked with young players at Strasbourg before,
00:16:41and I think he's eager to jump into this position.
00:16:43The group own Strasbourg and Chelsea.
00:16:45They know how he works.
00:16:46They like the way he sets his team up there.
00:16:48He knows how they work.
00:16:49That's important.
00:16:50Yeah, it will be important.
00:16:51And that will be a key part to him taking the role, I think.
00:16:53And he's, you know, the Premier League's tough and he'll find that out.
00:16:57But it's much easier doing it with Chelsea and the top players that you have available to you.
00:17:01There may be an introduction to the Premier League for a promotion with a newly promoted side.
00:17:04So he's going to get a fantastic opportunity at a top club.
00:17:08And obviously we'll see very soon whether he's ready to grasp it.
00:17:12Five more games to come from Sunday after December's Goal of the Month.
00:17:34That was Vincent Kompany-esque.
00:17:37Well, it was a belter.
00:17:48Wilson.
00:17:49Oh, what a goal!
00:17:55The link-up play is absolutely sumptuous here.
00:18:00It is perfection.
00:18:08A bit of space here for Morgan Rodgers.
00:18:11Might have a go at Goal!
00:18:12And it's a brilliant strike as well!
00:18:19Rodgers in a lot of space.
00:18:21And how about that for a finish?
00:18:33It's Senghori who...
00:18:34Oh!
00:18:35What a hit from Senghori!
00:18:41What a strike!
00:18:42Well, that's an absolute belter.
00:18:44Always looks good, doesn't it, when he comes in off the post.
00:18:51Pre-kick, which Chelsea hope will be a profitable one.
00:18:55Rhys James!
00:18:56Oh, it is!
00:18:58It's outstanding from Rhys James!
00:19:03Because that was inch-perfect.
00:19:04Can you feel like it's falling in me?
00:19:10Again, giving the ball in a precarious position, but he's kept hold of it.
00:19:17And Morgan Rodgers has kept it in.
00:19:20Head down.
00:19:21It's Rodgers!
00:19:25It's an absolute ripper!
00:19:28He should never score from there.
00:19:30From that position, Rodgers in red-hot form.
00:19:38Dallin with the long throw.
00:19:41Voltemada's head.
00:19:43Door goal!
00:19:48What a memorable way to score your first Manchester United goal!
00:19:53Where ever you feel?
00:19:57Can you feel it?
00:19:59Can you feel it?
00:20:01Can you feel it?
00:20:01I'm just running in my mind?
00:20:06Impressing.
00:20:07It's did that well though.
00:20:10Stack.
00:20:11Super ball from him, out to Aronson.
00:20:16Handless forward here leads, Aronson, Calvert-Lewin!
00:20:20Where ever you feel?
00:20:23Can you feel it?
00:20:25It's a fabulous team goal.
00:20:29Calvert-Lewin's incredible streak in front of goal continues.

00:20:54Having won three of their last four, Fulham faced a Liverpool side unbeaten in seven in the Premier League.
00:21:00Stephen Wyeth, watch this one.
00:21:03As the temperature has plummeted, Fulham and Liverpool have stayed hot.
00:21:08Two form sides.
00:21:10The hosts endeavour to keep it up with three changes.
00:21:12Kenny Tete is injured, so Timothy Castagne replaces him.
00:21:17Issa Diop returns and Tom Cairney's reward for the equaliser at Palace is a rare league start.
00:21:23Liverpool's form is their best since spring, but they too are stretched.
00:21:27A minor hamstring issue means no Ugo Eketike.
00:21:30Cody Gagpo starts instead.
00:21:33Alexis McAllister and Milos Kerkis replace Jeremy Fringpong and Andy Robertson.
00:21:41Underway a bit behind schedule today at Craven Cottage.
00:21:44A 15-minute delay due to a medical emergency.
00:21:48Not necessarily a fixture you would associate with Premier League heritage, but Fulham against Liverpool in recent times has been
00:21:56a blast.
00:21:59Curtis Jones.
00:22:01Gagpo's made his run and the flag has stayed down.
00:22:04Cody Gagpo is in.
00:22:07And the shot has only just bobbled wide.
00:22:11And it's the kind of chance that really should have at least resulted in a testing of the Fulham goalkeeper.
00:22:18Bernd Leno could watch it go harmlessly wide.
00:22:23And on a slot side on their best run of unbeaten form since their last visit to Craven Cottage.
00:22:30And Fulham ended a 26-match run unbeaten with a 3-2 win.
00:22:38Oh, lovely flick, Raul Jimenez.
00:22:41Wilson is in here.
00:22:43And has fired in, but from an offside position.
00:22:48Well, Fulham have really bided their time before looking to pounce on Liverpool.
00:22:53And it very nearly happened for them perfectly.
00:22:57Raul Jimenez towards Wilson now.
00:22:59That is going to require a much, much closer inspection.
00:23:05On-field decision was offside.
00:23:08But now the VAR Andy Madley is going to get involved.
00:23:13Because...
00:23:14Virgil van Dijk and Milos Kerkhez both look like they might have been playing Wilson on-site.
00:23:21And Fulham are about to receive some very good news.
00:23:25Some very welcome news.
00:23:28Because the on-field decision was wrong and Fulham do lead.
00:23:33Courtesy of a former Liverpool player.
00:23:37Harry Wilson in sparkling recent form in front of goal has scored again.
00:23:43Well, for a moment it looked like it was too good to be true when Wilson was bearing down on
00:23:48goal.
00:23:48That was certainly the initial verdict of the referee's assistant.
00:23:54But confirmation.
00:23:56Virgil van Dijk, the one that was playing him on.
00:23:59And that splendid finish beyond the reach of Alisson is the goal to make it Fulham 1-0.
00:24:05Liverpool 0.
00:24:07Since the start of November, only the top three in the Premier League have picked up more points than Fulham.
00:24:18Jo Bojlai remains an option.
00:24:22Fulham remain well organised.
00:24:28Jo Bojlai, charged down by Smithrow, corner kick.
00:24:38Jo Bojlai.
00:24:40And headed against the crossbar, Anderson there.
00:24:44Now appeals for a penalty, Fulham survive.
00:24:49McAllister head in hands, knows how close he was to levelling things up.
00:25:02Bradley, pouncing on a loose ball and driving at Fulham and finding Florian Nets.
00:25:10And once again,
00:25:12the ball finds the back of the net.
00:25:16Liverpool discover that it was from an offside position.
00:25:19Florian Verts this time.
00:25:21The unlucky player in red.
00:25:23Conor Bradley did tremendously well.
00:25:26Arguably deserved an assist for his contribution.
00:25:28But Verts was just beyond Issa Diop.
00:25:32This is just being cleared up.
00:25:34Just in case.
00:25:37Diop's trailing leg was beyond the outstretched right boot of Florian Verts at the critical moment.
00:25:45Once again, the on-field decision is going to be overturned.
00:25:50And Liverpool have an equaliser.
00:25:52And Florian Verts has another Liverpool goal.
00:25:56It has been delivered at a critical moment.
00:26:00Belated jubilation in the away end.
00:26:03It's a muted celebration from Liverpool, who know there is still work to be done.
00:26:08Issa Diop adjudged to have just been playing.
00:26:12Florian Verts onside.
00:26:15And just as in the first half of Fulham, Liverpool's goal has taken some unpicking.
00:26:21But the decision is to award it.
00:26:23And it's Fulham 1, Liverpool 1.
00:26:29He'll want more than a point now.
00:26:31So dominant out of his side bin in this second half.
00:26:37Bradley.
00:26:41Robinson.
00:26:43Super pass.
00:26:44Val Jimenez looks to be in.
00:26:47Alisson has come.
00:26:48Not dealt with it.
00:26:49Wilson!
00:26:50Oh!
00:26:51Off the bar.
00:26:52Who'll get there first?
00:26:53Virgil van Dijk.
00:26:56So close Fulham to regaining the lead.
00:26:59The direct approach nearly working so effectively.
00:27:03Harry Wilson looking to add to his first half goal.
00:27:06Denied by the crossbar.
00:27:08And van Dijk it was.
00:27:10Who made sure that he got to the loose ball.
00:27:14The unbeaten runs have taken Liverpool into the top four and Fulham into European contention themselves.
00:27:19Each of the two has the greater desire in the quality to turn the draw into three points.
00:27:29Time running out.
00:27:31But there is still time.
00:27:36Kravenbeer.
00:27:38And Bradley.
00:27:40For Frimpong.
00:27:41Quality cross required.
00:27:43And that is a quality cross.
00:27:47Which looks to have produced a match winning moment for Cody Gatpo.
00:27:55Liverpool lead having been behind.
00:27:58And in stoppage time at Kraven Cottage appear to have got the job done.
00:28:03The man asked to fulfil the role of centre forward today.
00:28:08Has responded with a goal at a critical moment.
00:28:12A vicious delivery.
00:28:14That Gatpo was alert to.
00:28:17Showing the instincts required.
00:28:20To step forward late on in the game.
00:28:24And score for Liverpool a goal.
00:28:27That looks to have secured for them a fifth win in eight.
00:28:30That's all.
00:28:30That's all.
00:28:33Having scored.
00:28:35And having been cautioned as a consequence.
00:28:38Cody Gatpo is going to be withdrawn.
00:28:41But he can leave with the acclaim of the travelling support.
00:28:45They feel as though it's job done.
00:28:53Robinson's throw to Kevin.
00:28:57And then will field defeat is harsh on them.
00:29:00Harrison Reid from distance.
00:29:04An exceptional goal.
00:29:06From the most unlikely source.
00:29:10A how and well moment from Harrison Reid.
00:29:14Just as the points look gone for Fulham.
00:29:17They have responded.
00:29:19Almost immediately.
00:29:22In the groove Fulham.
00:29:23They simply don't know at the moment when they are beaten.
00:29:26Sent on.
00:29:28To provide some midfield energy late in the game.
00:29:31And instead.
00:29:32It is Harrison Reid.
00:29:34Who has scored the most improbable late equaliser.
00:29:39A near perfect strike.
00:29:41Better than anything he could possibly have dreamed of delivering.
00:29:45An exceptional goal.
00:29:47To make it Fulham 2.
00:29:49Liverpool 2.
00:29:52Have you ever hit a ball better than that?
00:29:54It fell nice off the foot.
00:29:55And then I was just praying it went in the top corner.
00:29:57To see it dip in.
00:29:59Obviously circumstances as well.
00:30:00What an amazing feeling.
00:30:02I will tell you I have been practising and training.
00:30:04The boys know it.
00:30:05They have seen it as well.
00:30:06So I just had to get my chance.
00:30:08He says he has been practising.
00:30:09Is that what you sent him on to do?
00:30:11It is not the first time that you see it.
00:30:13To be honest.
00:30:13Yesterday of course.
00:30:14It is a moment that they use in the end of the minus one session.
00:30:18To do something.
00:30:19Of course if you ask me.
00:30:21Of course I didn't put him thinking that he is going to score that goal.
00:30:24But of course that is poor inspiration from him.
00:30:26And he deserves all the credit.
00:30:27I think we fought very hard in the second half.
00:30:30We were dominating at moments.
00:30:32Trying to create chances to go through.
00:30:35And at the end I scored I think 90 plus five.
00:30:38The moment I sat down on the bench.
00:30:40They scored.
00:30:41Wonderful goal to be fair.
00:30:42We were two one up.
00:30:44And having to defend a long throw in which we expected.
00:30:48And we brought Joe Gomez in because of course he is very good through the air.
00:30:53But they didn't take it long.
00:30:55They took it short.
00:30:57And it was an incredible strike.
00:30:58The boys should deserve to get a reward.
00:31:01Once in a while.
00:31:02But unfortunately we don't get it.
00:31:04And the only ones to blame is ourselves as well.
00:31:07Because we concede in these moments.
00:31:09But fighting so hard to be two one up.
00:31:12It is unbelievable that every time the ball goes in in the end.
00:31:17But it was a truly magnificent goal.
00:31:20Harrison Reid coming in with the heroics of Harrison Ford with that goal.
00:31:24At 92 minutes he comes on the pitch.
00:31:2696 minutes.
00:31:27I think you just need to wax lyrical.
00:31:28I don't think Marco Silva brought him off the bench for this.
00:31:31Probably just to maybe sew it up.
00:31:32Or to try and give it a bit of balance in midfield if Liverpool break away.
00:31:36But they set up for a long throw.
00:31:38It's Arnest Lutz's.
00:31:38But Reid comes into the picture.
00:31:40You know you let the pictures do this justice.
00:31:42This is just a phenomenal strike.
00:31:44It's quite funny Harrison said after that.
00:31:45I've practiced this in training.
00:31:46But again that just roider over stuff it really is.
00:31:49To get that much dip in movement.
00:31:51And Swaz Alisson's got absolutely no chance at all.
00:31:53And Silva just pops up as he hits it there.
00:31:55This is an unbelievable strike.
00:31:58I mean Gary you maybe weren't overly happy with the Liverpool defending.
00:32:00Yeah and I understand they're set up for a long throw.
00:32:03But as soon as Fulham don't throw it long.
00:32:05You have to react to this 4v2.
00:32:07You know some of them Liverpool players in the penalty area.
00:32:09Need to get up and get some pressure on the ball.
00:32:11You can't leave that 4v2 for that long.
00:32:13And of course you don't expect to be punished like this.
00:32:16But boy did Harrison Reid punished him a hell of a strike.
00:32:19I'm not sure many of his practices went where that one went.
00:32:21But the one that mattered did.
00:32:23Now there's no Alexander Isak we know for Liverpool for a few months.
00:32:27Eketike out at the moment.
00:32:28Could be back later this week for the Arsenal game on Thursday.
00:32:31It's a short term injury.
00:32:32So Cody Gakpo playing in a more central role today.
00:32:35Yeah.
00:32:35What did you make of his performance?
00:32:36Yeah I didn't mind it actually.
00:32:37You know I think Arnaslav talked about maybe in front of the goal.
00:32:40We struggled.
00:32:40But I think Gakpo done well.
00:32:42You keep an eye on him here.
00:32:43He's on the left hand side.
00:32:44But he actually bends his run here as a centre forward you want to do.
00:32:47And he gets through on goal.
00:32:48I mean it's just not a great finish at the end of that.
00:32:50On his weaker left foot.
00:32:51Of course we know him cutting in on his right.
00:32:52He's very strong.
00:32:53But again look how central the goal.
00:32:55And again this is a brilliant hitter.
00:32:56Heads it back where it came from.
00:32:57Just a little bit unlucky that it's come back off the woodwork.
00:33:00But great movement from him.
00:33:01And then again we show this.
00:33:02He's involved in the goal.
00:33:03I think latter part of the stage he went out to the left side.
00:33:05Kiesel went up more central.
00:33:06But he's not happy just to be getting involved in the build up.
00:33:08Gabby's thinking right can we score a goal.
00:33:10He makes himself 94, 95 minutes.
00:33:12Brilliant ball from Frimpong.
00:33:14And where is he?
00:33:14Number 9 in the middle of the 6 yard box.
00:33:16Where you want him to be.
00:33:17And he tucks it away nicely.
00:33:19And again he thinks he's got the winning goal at this stage.
00:33:21Before Mr Reid stepped up and stole the party off him.
00:33:24But I was happy with Gakbo how he played.
00:33:27It says he's played before there for PSV.
00:33:29He's played there for the Netherlands as well.
00:33:30So I think he knows the position.
00:33:32OK there was a lot of noise online about Florian versus goal.
00:33:36Of course during the match it was checked for offside.
00:33:38And to the naked eye there are angles where it does look offside.
00:33:43Now from a semi-automated kind of opinion and position.
00:33:46They're happy that with the tolerance that they have with the lines.
00:33:50That it is onside.
00:33:52Because the advantage when the lines touch.
00:33:54Between the last player and the defender.
00:33:56Is about 5cm.
00:33:58And it's given to the attacking player that kind of advantage.
00:34:00Are you happy?
00:34:01All the best Gary.
00:34:02Gabby's done quite well explaining that there.
00:34:04I've had my own battles with VAR.
00:34:06And trying to guess as a manager whether it's on or off.
00:34:10But they did make the lines thicker.
00:34:12Four years ago I think.
00:34:13To try and give an advantage.
00:34:15But I think all of us would say.
00:34:17That on the naked eye.
00:34:18Florian Virts' foot looks ahead of Diop's there.
00:34:22Florian Virts looks like he's just drifted into that lighter cut of grass.
00:34:26Whereas we would say Diop looks firmly planted in the darker cut.
00:34:29So you would say.
00:34:30That this is probably going to be disallowed for offside at this moment.
00:34:34But then when it then turns to the semi-automated view.
00:34:38You can see it doesn't quite look the same.
00:34:40And it looks like Florian Virts has managed just to stay the right side of Diop.
00:34:46And whether that tolerance.
00:34:47We don't have the privilege of seeing the lines here.
00:34:50But whether that tolerance of about 5cm.
00:34:52Has led to this goal standing.
00:34:54Is a possibility.
00:34:55But Florian Virts needs the goal to be fair to him.
00:34:58Fulham won't be so pleased with it.
00:34:59But a big goal for Florian Virts.
00:35:01Marco Silva's reaction seems quite measured.
00:35:04Yeah I guess the Harrison Reid goal probably takes the edge off it.
00:35:07A little bit for him.
00:35:09And I think as managers and coaches in the end.
00:35:12You have to accept that the technology is there to do its job.
00:35:14And we have to accept that at the moment.
00:35:17It's doing the best job that it possibly can.
00:35:18And it's being interpreted in the best way possible.
00:35:20You mentioned it's been a few years now that that has been the way they've been viewed.
00:35:23And actually the Premier League is the only major league left in Europe that is doing that.
00:35:27The others are still kind of working or are working to the toenail.
00:35:30Yeah so a strong possibility that maybe would have been disallowed in some of the other major leagues around Europe.
00:35:35But as it is at the moment the technology has got that one right for us.
00:35:38And cleared up a very tight decision.
00:35:39You say cleared up.
00:35:40I mean we're talking about that right.
00:35:41Yeah yeah.
00:35:41Cleared up to the best we can.
00:35:43OK.
00:35:44Next, Leeds United and Manchester United renew their War of the Roses as the Reds cross the Pennines to play
00:35:50the Whites of Yorkshire.
00:35:51Your commentator is Guy Mowbray.
00:35:55After today, every team in the Premier League will have faced all the others this season.
00:36:01The opponents Leeds look for first are the ones they've had to wait for longest.
00:36:06There are two changes to the Leeds line-up from their New Year's Day draw at Liverpool.
00:36:11With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor coming back in to start.
00:36:15Lucas Metcher is a substitute.
00:36:17Captain Ethan Ampadu ruled out suspended.
00:36:19And Jadon Bogle is out with a calf injury.
00:36:22For the visiting United, only one difference to their team in names.
00:36:26As Lenny Uro replaces Joshua Zergzi.
00:36:29He's on the bench alongside five teenagers.
00:36:32With a whole raft of senior players once again absent.
00:36:39Leeds waiting to play.
00:36:41Manchester United pales away compared with waiting to beat them.
00:36:44They haven't done that in nine Premier League meetings.
00:36:47And in seven overalls since Jermaine Beckford's 1-0 winner for then League One Leeds at Old Trafford.
00:36:5416 years ago yesterday.
00:36:57Lammans.
00:36:58Nice easy stroke of the ball.
00:37:01Offside flag is raised as Matthias Cunha has a go.
00:37:05And scores in fine style, but it's not going to count.
00:37:12And I'm pretty sure he was offside.
00:37:17Maybe not Matthias Cunha.
00:37:20But I'm pretty certain Czesko was and he went for the ball to try and help it on.
00:37:24Whether he touched it or not is largely irrelevant.
00:37:3022 minutes in and Leeds United pay tribute to Joshua Pick who died suddenly aged 22 recently.
00:37:40A lead season ticket holder from six years old.
00:37:43His dad and sister are here at the game today.
00:37:46And we wish them all well.
00:37:52Justin.
00:37:53Calvert-Lewin shielding his eyes from the low sun.
00:37:56Here's Strauch.
00:37:59Stack.
00:38:01Calvert-Lewin!
00:38:02Off the post.
00:38:05So close to scoring again.
00:38:08He was inches away from being 1-0 leads through their number nine once more.
00:38:14Just what a striker in Dominic Calvert-Lewin's form would want.
00:38:18Only needed just a little bit more head on ball.
00:38:24That clears Bourne out.
00:38:27Cunha.
00:38:28Shaw.
00:38:31Dorku can't attack it though.
00:38:33It's turned behind by Goodmanson.
00:38:36And after a spell of leads being in the ascendancy, it might be Manchester United's turn for a bit now.
00:38:44Luke Shaw to take the corner.
00:38:47It's a deep one.
00:38:48And it's Casimiro and saved by Lucas Perry.
00:38:52Brilliant reaction stop.
00:38:55Casimiro on to Lenny Uro just trying to divert it.
00:38:59All he could do there was get it goal bound.
00:39:01He did that.
00:39:03Lucas Perry in the right place.
00:39:07A game that needs a creative spark.
00:39:10A game that needs a player of Eddie Gray's abilities.
00:39:13He made his lead United debut 60 years ago.
00:39:161st of January 1966.
00:39:193-0 against Sheffield Wednesday.
00:39:21He scored one.
00:39:22And he made two before assists were a thing.
00:39:25What a player.
00:39:27Strunk.
00:39:29Heaven has a look.
00:39:30Aronson is closing in.
00:39:32And Aronson is there first.
00:39:33And finishes.
00:39:38Elland Road has erupted.
00:39:44Brendan Aronson's non-stop running has got reward.
00:39:50Aidan Heaven caught cold.
00:39:53A moment for all these young and old to absolutely love.
00:39:59Aronson has not always been flavour of the month here.
00:40:03Right now at this minute.
00:40:05He's the toast of the town.
00:40:07He wanted it just that bit more.
00:40:10But then he had to find the composure to put it in.
00:40:13Brilliantly dispatched.
00:40:15And it's Leeds United 1, Manchester United 0.
00:40:18And Manchester United now feel the need to make a change.
00:40:22Leni Jorow is off.
00:40:23Joshua Zerksi comes on.
00:40:26Well, Aidan Heaven has performed really well.
00:40:28In these seven games now in a row that he started.
00:40:32But there was an aberration.
00:40:34You can't switch off in the Premier League.
00:40:36And in this fixture of all fixtures.
00:40:38You absolutely must be on it at every second.
00:40:43Zerksi.
00:40:44Looking for Cunha.
00:40:46And Cunha has slid in and slotted it past Lucas Perry.
00:40:50It's 1-1.
00:40:54Leeds turn to get it all wrong in defence.
00:40:58This is one of huge importance for Manchester United.
00:41:03Cezco won it, laid it off to Zerksi.
00:41:05He played a perfectly weighted pass for Cunha.
00:41:09And not for the first time, Cunha found himself free.
00:41:13And just like Aronson at the other end.
00:41:15Well, how good was the finish?
00:41:18The game has been plugged in.
00:41:21From 0-0 to 1-1.
00:41:24In just under three minutes.
00:41:31Okafor on his way.
00:41:34Calvert-Lewin in the middle.
00:41:35But so is Heaven.
00:41:47Behold got a help on to that.
00:41:49Good try.
00:41:49Good save.
00:41:52Lehmann's forced to spring into action.
00:41:55After Okafor's acrobatic attempt.
00:41:59Great try.
00:42:02So Alex Ferguson was 84 on New Year's Eve.
00:42:06He was never going to miss this one.
00:42:11Dalot.
00:42:14Ugarte.
00:42:16Zerksi.
00:42:17Now Matthias Cunha.
00:42:19Luke Shaw is an extra centre forward in this move.
00:42:21Here's Zerksi.
00:42:23Zerksi across.
00:42:24Cezco's effort is wide.
00:42:26He made good contact with the ball.
00:42:30Just maybe hit it too straight.
00:42:32Planted firmly wide of the post.
00:42:35Big chance for Manchester United to take the lead.
00:42:41Behold's header goes straight to Cunha.
00:42:43Cezco gets it through the legs for Zerksi.
00:42:46Now it's Dorgue.
00:42:47Cunha wants it.
00:42:48Cunha has the try.
00:42:50Oh, was it saved or just wide?
00:42:55Look at the curl on that from Cunha.
00:42:58So, so close to making it 2-1 Manchester United.
00:43:04It's Justin who heads forward to Nyonto.
00:43:09Lovely ball from Nyonto.
00:43:11Here's Stack.
00:43:12Piru to the right.
00:43:13Stack finds him.
00:43:15Piru!
00:43:16Onto the roof.
00:43:19Made his mind up before the ball came to him.
00:43:21That that's what he was going to try to do.
00:43:25Not far away at all.
00:43:28And it is full time at Elland Road.
00:43:32Leeds draw for a third game in a row.
00:43:35There's seven unbeaten now.
00:43:37Manchester United have only lost one of their last eight.
00:43:42They're much more resilient away from home these days.
00:43:45Leeds United won.
00:43:46Manchester United won.
00:43:49We are a bit disappointed because it was possible also to win this game.
00:43:52You could feel that we were a bit tired today and also we're missing many key players.
00:43:58It was probably football-wise not our best performance but we found still a way to defend really well and
00:44:03to go in lead.
00:44:04And it was definitely possible also to win this game for that.
00:44:06We are a bit disappointed but on the other hand it shows also and says a lot that you are
00:44:11disappointed with just one point against Man United as a promoted side.
00:44:14An important point for us, we talk about this, the resilience and then everyone knows like it's so important to
00:44:20the players who miss today.
00:44:23But we have like a big character in the team.
00:44:25We need like to use the shirt and then show everything in the pitch.
00:44:28And then I think we did it and then I hope we can do much more the next game.
00:44:32Yeah, we're going to take it, you know, with a ton of confidence because, you know, where we've been, you
00:44:36know, the last month of games that we've had.
00:44:37I mean, going to Liverpool, coming back home, you know, two away games and Sunderland too, they're not easy places
00:44:43to go to.
00:44:43So, to stay unbeaten, I think we could even have more points from these games.
00:44:46So, we just need to keep going from here.
00:44:49Well, after the match, Ruben Amarim said this in his press conference.
00:44:53I just want to say that I'm going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach.
00:44:58And I was really clear on that.
00:45:01And that is going to finish in 18 months and then everyone is going to move on.
00:45:07That was the deal.
00:45:09That is my job, not to be a coach.
00:45:12If people cannot handle the Gary Neville's and the criticism of everything, we need to change the club.
00:45:19I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach.
00:45:24And every department, the scouting department, the sport director needs to do their job.
00:45:28I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on.
00:45:32The question he was responding to, Ruben Amarim, was about control at the club and that answer clearly would point
00:45:38to discord with regard to the hierarchy at the club.
00:45:42Yeah, he is not happy. It looks like there is a bit of a, it feels like, we don't know
00:45:46obviously, it feels like there is a bit of a fallout between himself and of course Jason Walcox, the director
00:45:51of football.
00:45:51And he said in numerous cases, two or three times there, that he is the manager, not just the coach.
00:45:56So what that tells me is, he is overseeing players coming in, he is overseeing maybe players going out, who
00:46:00comes to the club, who doesn't.
00:46:02Or he would like to.
00:46:03He would like to, but maybe that has not happened.
00:46:05Maybe it has been nowhere in January now, the promises of maybe players coming in, maybe the goalposts have changed.
00:46:10And a lot of, Gary may tell you better, but a lot of managers, they are head coaches now and
00:46:13they have got heads of heads doing other things.
00:46:15But you look at the great Sir Alex Ferguson, he managed that football club like no other.
00:46:20I look at maybe Anunay Emery at Aston Villa, it feels like he has got the final say in everything
00:46:24that comes and goes in Aston Villa and look where they are at in the league.
00:46:26And also I would say if Man United won on Wednesday night against Burnley, they are up the fourth.
00:46:30And if you look at their bench in the last couple of weeks, they have got a bunch of kids
00:46:32on there.
00:46:33So I don't think he is doing a bad job, but it does feel there is a bit of a
00:46:36falling out behind the scenes perhaps.
00:46:38What do you think as a manager sitting in that chair, his aim was? What was the end game?
00:46:42Yeah, no, I think when you deliver a press conference like that, you're obviously trying to make a point.
00:46:46He's unhappy about something. It's very difficult for us without knowing the inner workings at the football club and the
00:46:51conversations that go on, what he's unhappy with.
00:46:54I agree with Shea that there's not much for him to work with at the moment.
00:46:58If you look at that bench that Manchester United are naming, you know, they are fifth or sixth in the
00:47:02league and maybe they're not underachieving too much with what he's got available to him.
00:47:06So I understand his need and his want for more backing. But it is a dicey game to play when
00:47:12you're sat in that chair and you start to criticize people above you.
00:47:15Maybe when it's not gone overly well for you over the last 18 months. But, you know, he's an intelligent
00:47:20guy, big boy.
00:47:21I'm sure he knows what he's doing. And if he feels he needs to make a point in that moment,
00:47:24then he has every right to do so.
00:47:26I guess recent example, Enzo Mareska, it didn't quite work out for him, did it?
00:47:29No, it goes one way or the other. You normally get some support or it can end fairly abruptly.
00:47:33On the pitch, the player that they're looking to at the moment for creativity and an attacking threat, you know
00:47:37very well, Matthias Kunja from your time at Wolves.
00:47:39Yeah, one of my favorite players that I worked with at Wolves. We did an awful lot of work with
00:47:43him on arriving in attacking areas that really suited him.
00:47:48So Manchester United have used him in a similar zone, but it does still feel like he's carrying a lot
00:47:52of the burden in the attacking.
00:47:54I know they're missing players at the moment. Fantastic finish. He's unlucky that Cesco's just not quite managed to get
00:47:59back from an offside position, but shows his quality.
00:48:02But here, just a lack of attackers on the pitch from Manchester United. And, you know, Kunja needs people.
00:48:08He needs runners to be able to find and he'll find them. His right foot's one of the best in
00:48:11the business.
00:48:12So there he's only got Cesco and Dorg, who's really late to arrive. So a fantastic ball into a dangerous
00:48:17area from Kunja, but not enough attackers for him to play with and combine and create things.
00:48:22Here, Dallow playing outside, poor ball inside, and now Aronson punishes them on the counterattack.
00:48:28And this was the catalyst, really. This was the thing that sparked a reaction from Amarine and Manchester United.
00:48:33Zerksi comes straight off the bench and literally instantly you see three attackers who are able to combine.
00:48:38No fullbacks playing higher up the pitch. Three out and out attackers.
00:48:42And they're able to combine. Cesco sets Zerksi. Kunja makes that running behind.
00:48:47And we did loads and loads of finishing drills with him. And his right foot, when you get him in
00:48:50and around the goal, is deadly.
00:48:52He hits the net time after time. Same again. Zerksi, Cesco. They work it between them.
00:48:57And then they find the third link. Mateus Kunja. Once you get him here, if he's got a runner, he'll
00:49:01find it.
00:49:02In the first half, he didn't have one. Second half, Zerksi makes a fantastic running behind.
00:49:06Perfect weight on the pass from Kunja. And then Cesco will be disappointed he should do better.
00:49:10Same again. Kunja. Drops down to him. He's got two to combine with. Two attackers who he can play with.
00:49:16Would probably like more, but at least he's got two. They combine again.
00:49:20Zerksi and Cesco are able to take the defenders away. Gets Mateus Kunja half a yard.
00:49:25And then that one of the right foot nearly clinches the whole three points for Manchester United.
00:49:29But another big, big performance for him. And here you can see, like, they're not blessed with goals.
00:49:35You know, Mateus Kunja, four. Casemiro, four. And then there's not a lot else in that group.
00:49:39And I understand they're missing players, but this is Manchester United.
00:49:43It's the biggest or one of the biggest clubs in the country.
00:49:45And you would expect their starting XI and bench to provide a lot more goal threat than it does at
00:49:50the moment.
00:49:50So heavily reliant on Mateus.
00:49:51And it says a lot about Leeds and their run in December in particular.
00:49:55So the reaction of a lot of the players and the manager there that, you know, yes, they're happy with
00:49:59the point.
00:49:59But they've had such a good run since that defeat at the end of November to City.
00:50:03They haven't lost a game in Manchester City.
00:50:05He was under pressure, Daniel Farke, as well, wasn't he?
00:50:07And they trusted him. They stuck behind him. Seven unbeaten. Eight points clear of the drop zone.
00:50:11He's doing a great job.
00:50:12OK. We've got plenty more sport coming up for you on the BBC.
00:50:16There's another round of Premier League fixtures in midweek, which means another match of the day.
00:50:20I'll be back on Wednesday evening at 10.40.
00:50:23There's live third round FA Cup football next Saturday.
00:50:26Non-League Macclesfield FC face holders Crystal Palace on BBC One at midday.
00:50:31The Masters snooker begins next Sunday on BBC Two.
00:50:34And if you've missed anything over the festive period, match of the day and individual highlights of every Premier League
00:50:40game are available right now on iPlayer.
00:50:42Now, with half this season's games played, Everton and Brentford faced each other, separated in the table by just a
00:50:49single point.
00:50:49Your commentator for this one is Tom Gale.
00:50:52David Moyes feels Europa or Conference League qualification is a realistic game for Everton.
00:50:58Jack Grealish is now fully recovered from the festive lurgy.
00:51:01Tien O'Barry says watching videos of former toffee striker Romelu Lukaku helped inspire his goal last time out at
00:51:08Forest.
00:51:0927 points is Brentford's second highest telly at this stage of a Premier League season.
00:51:14Quivin Keller has seven seasons at Liverpool, included only one Merseyside derby, a 1-0 victory at Anfield in April
00:51:21of last year.
00:51:23After a dry December, Igor Thiago is looking to end a six-game wait for a goal.
00:51:33O'Brien tried to reverse the ball, can only find Dam's guards.
00:51:39Thiago blocks Jensen's attempted ball and Grealish gets away.
00:51:43Jack Grealish, back to Dwight McNeil, who draws a fine stop from Quivin Callaghan.
00:51:53First big moment for the Irish goalkeeper.
00:51:58First corner of the game to be taken by Dwight McNeil.
00:52:02Tricky one, cleared off the line by Thiago.
00:52:08Well, a nervy few minutes for Keith Andrews's men.
00:52:12And it's Brentford's number nine, back on defensive duties.
00:52:18David Moyes just a few days away from Mark in 12 months since his return back to the club.
00:52:23Everton, 11 points better off at this stage than last season.
00:52:30Tarkovsky.
00:52:31The annals intercepts.
00:52:33Cross towards Thiago!
00:52:38A fair sniff of a goal for Igor Thiago and he dispatches it.
00:52:45David Moyes clearly not impressed.
00:52:48But that happened ever so quickly for Brentford.
00:52:53Everton are in possession here.
00:52:56Tarkovsky.
00:52:57That pass is red.
00:52:58And Janel very speedy on the delivery.
00:53:02And Thiago gets in behind Michael Keane.
00:53:05Only Erling Haaland has bagged more goals than the Brazilians so far this season.
00:53:09His 12th of the campaign to make it Everton nil.
00:53:14Brentford one.
00:53:16Brentford's first effort on goal bringing about maximum rewards.
00:53:22Jensen.
00:53:24Thiago to make it two!
00:53:26Denied by Jordan Pickford.
00:53:30Excellent movement off the ball from Thiago.
00:53:34Jordan Pickford uses the angle to his advantage.
00:53:39Grealish.
00:53:42Last chance possibly here for Everton to change the scoreline in the first half.
00:53:47Grealish.
00:53:49Still Grealish.
00:53:51Onto his left.
00:53:52Ball across!
00:53:52And what a save!
00:53:54Barry denied!
00:53:55And so too Keane.
00:54:00Incredible goalkeeping from Quivine Kelleher.
00:54:03Keeps Brentford in front.
00:54:13Coyote.
00:54:13Dam's guard.
00:54:15Gets away from Irabuna.
00:54:17Goes low.
00:54:19Actually gave the Everton man another chance at that.
00:54:21But it will be a Brentford corner.
00:54:27Janelt in front of the away support.
00:54:31Decent one and it's headed home!
00:54:35Captain fantastic Nathan Collins!
00:54:40Well what a start to the second half for Keith Andrews' side.
00:54:45The run's not tracked.
00:54:48The run's not tracked and it's a simple header from close range for the Irishman.
00:54:53Everton nil.
00:54:54Brentford two.
00:54:59The two.
00:55:02The two.
00:55:04The two.
00:55:07The three.
00:55:08Jensen.
00:55:09Through the legs of Keane.
00:55:11Sharder.
00:55:13Sharder.
00:55:14Tiago!
00:55:18Grandford.
00:55:19A running riot at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
00:55:26look at that from Jensen
00:55:30Thiago takes charge
00:55:32his second of the afternoon
00:55:35who saw this scoreline coming pre-kickoff
00:55:40is the suspicion of an offside
00:55:42VAR are we having a look
00:55:46onside goal stands
00:55:48I'm not sure that's necessary from Thiago
00:55:52he's hug Beto
00:55:55well after what David Moyes described as
00:55:58Everton's best performance since his
00:56:00return back to the club
00:56:01away at Nottingham Forest they're following it up
00:56:04with a horror show here against
00:56:06Brentford
00:56:09Garner's ball in
00:56:10decent one, net by Torkoski
00:56:12and tipped over
00:56:13by Kelleher
00:56:17decent stop
00:56:18from underneath his crossbar
00:56:24better challenges
00:56:27higher
00:56:30so slides in and the decision is Everton
00:56:36throw
00:56:42Grealish
00:56:43Beto glances it on and Everton have one back
00:56:50muted celebrations
00:56:51a sterny look from David Moyes
00:56:55is there life in this game yet for the home sides
00:56:59it's the first time this season
00:57:01that an Everton player has come off the bench
00:57:04and scored
00:57:06neat header
00:57:07Keller have beaten
00:57:11I think a few minutes ago maybe some Everton supporters were questioning whether or not they should see this one
00:57:17out
00:57:17well that goal certainly changed their minds
00:57:22Dam's guard
00:57:23only Lewis Potter to aim for so far
00:57:26does find it back to Thiago on a hat-trick and it deflects
00:57:31and into the welcome arms
00:57:32of Jordan Pickford
00:57:35the speed in which Keith Andrews' side transition
00:57:38and they still manage to get a shot on target
00:57:45roll
00:57:46goes low again
00:57:47and here's Thiago
00:57:51he's in
00:57:52on a hat-trick
00:57:54Igor Thiago
00:58:00caps a superb
00:58:02away day
00:58:03for Brentford
00:58:04he secures the match ball
00:58:07and puts an end to this contest
00:58:10Everton were taking risks
00:58:12they were pushing men forwards
00:58:14and look
00:58:16at just how much time and space
00:58:19Igor Thiago has
00:58:21he's got the freedom
00:58:22of the Hill Dickinson Stadium
00:58:24to bear down on Jordan Pickford
00:58:28Everton 1
00:58:29Brentford 4
00:58:34as you can see
00:58:36lots of blue empty seats
00:58:38amongst the home supporters
00:58:41they've seen more than enough
00:58:46Grealish
00:58:49Grealish
00:58:50Barry
00:58:52still time for more goals in this match
00:58:58there hasn't been many positives for Everton here this afternoon
00:59:01but both of their strikers on the score sheet is one
00:59:05Everton 2
00:59:06Brentford 4
00:59:11I thought we were excellent
00:59:13right from the off really
00:59:14played with a lot of personality
00:59:17conviction
00:59:18energy
00:59:18spirit
00:59:19all the aspects of the game
00:59:20I want to see from our team
00:59:22it come into a very very difficult
00:59:24ground
00:59:25even though it's a new ground
00:59:26difficult club to play against
00:59:27manager to play against
00:59:28who I have
00:59:30a serious amount of respect for
00:59:31so we knew we'd have to earn
00:59:33a result today
00:59:34but I thought we were excellent
00:59:36disappointment that we didn't play better
00:59:38but
00:59:40no we're just a bit short at the moment
00:59:41in some areas
00:59:43but in areas we lost the goals today
00:59:45we weren't short
00:59:46we've been very strong in those areas
00:59:47but I thought we were
00:59:49disappointed defensively today
00:59:50and
00:59:52certainly not as strong as we have been
00:59:53a word of appreciation for Igor Thiago
00:59:55I'm sure you go against him
00:59:56a lot in training
00:59:57so you'll know about his attributes
00:59:59and
01:00:00a short spell without scoring
01:00:02but back amongst the goals
01:00:03he's just a handful
01:00:04he has a bit of everything
01:00:05he runs in behind
01:00:06he works hard
01:00:06he holds the ball up
01:00:07and he can finish a ball
01:00:08he has everything to be the top striker
01:00:10and if he keeps going like this
01:00:11there's no reason he can't be
01:00:12he's played really well recently
01:00:13and not scored
01:00:14so I always felt that goals
01:00:16would come again
01:00:17it was unrealistic to think
01:00:18he was just going to continue
01:00:19banging in goals
01:00:20left, right and centre
01:00:21week in, week out
01:00:22like he had been
01:00:22so his performance again today
01:00:25was sensational
01:00:27and he truly deserves the accolades
01:00:28that he'll get off the back of it
01:00:30Certainly not a typical Brentford performance
01:00:32on the road this season
01:00:33they've lost 7 of 9
01:00:34but they were running rampant
01:00:35at the Hill Dickinson today
01:00:37and Thiago in particular
01:00:38off the back of 6 games
01:00:39without scoring
01:00:40Yeah, he was excellent Gabby
01:00:41there was no sign of a lack of confidence
01:00:44after not scoring for 6 games
01:00:46obviously he's been in the goals
01:00:47over the course of the season
01:00:48Everton were poor
01:00:49this is not their finest day
01:00:51mistakes as you'll see
01:00:52in the build up to a lot of these chances
01:00:53but proper number 9
01:00:55great movement off the back of the centre half
01:00:56and a fantastic finish
01:00:58and you can see him here
01:00:59his team mate spoke about it there
01:01:01Nathan Collins
01:01:01always wanting to threaten in behind
01:01:03these runs in behind
01:01:04so hard to deal with
01:01:05Pickford manages to save this one
01:01:07but then maybe he learns
01:01:08from that chance
01:01:09where he's smashed it
01:01:10and Pickford's got a hand to it
01:01:11he competes at the top of the pitch
01:01:13and he's a target man for them
01:01:14but now you see him again
01:01:15just threatening in behind
01:01:17that Everton back line
01:01:18and he caused them
01:01:18real, real problems today
01:01:20he doesn't get the first one
01:01:21gets this one
01:01:22and that's a great finish
01:01:23to just lift it over Pickford
01:01:24would have been easy
01:01:25to smash it against him
01:01:26another poor ball from Everton
01:01:28and then not well organised
01:01:30behind the ball
01:01:30Everton on that clip
01:01:31and you leave Thiago
01:01:32in this sort of space
01:01:33in the form that he's in
01:01:34and all of us were pretty sure
01:01:35that this was going to end
01:01:36one way in a goal
01:01:37another little dink finish
01:01:39and a Premier League hat-trick for him
01:01:40and well deserved
01:01:42a fantastic performance
01:01:44and look at that
01:01:45he's in very good company
01:01:46across the world
01:01:47he is
01:01:47and I think there's a
01:01:48big tournament coming up
01:01:49in the summer isn't there
01:01:50the World Cup
01:01:51that I'm sure he's got his eyes on
01:01:53because Brazil
01:01:53haven't really ever set
01:01:54number 9 for a while
01:01:55and I know he hasn't
01:01:57been called up yet
01:01:57but if he stays on that list
01:01:59and he keeps the company
01:02:00that he's keeping at the moment
01:02:01then it would be very
01:02:02very hard not to take him
01:02:03I mentioned Brentford's
01:02:04away form
01:02:05because actually
01:02:05their league position
01:02:06is very good
01:02:07and it's been built
01:02:07on their home form
01:02:08Hill Dickinson
01:02:10for Everton
01:02:11at the moment
01:02:12their form there
01:02:13isn't very good
01:02:14is it
01:02:14and having had a good start
01:02:16to their new home
01:02:17things are looking a bit wobbly
01:02:18yeah Moyes said
01:02:19they're short in a few areas
01:02:20and again he'll be looking
01:02:20maybe at the window
01:02:21to try and strengthen
01:02:22but yeah
01:02:22the graph speaks for itself
01:02:24doesn't it
01:02:24I mean they're very
01:02:25Hill Dickinson's
01:02:26a brand new stadium
01:02:26and sometimes the opposition
01:02:27look like they
01:02:28like playing there
01:02:29more so in the home team
01:02:30and sometimes that happens
01:02:31Gabby
01:02:31but David Moyes
01:02:32will want to put that right
01:02:33we know he's a top manager
01:02:33and I'm sure he'll get it right
01:02:35okay
01:02:35Eddie Howe has said
01:02:37that January will be
01:02:38a season defining month
01:02:39for his Newcastle side
01:02:41they begin 2026
01:02:42against another side
01:02:43struggling for forming
01:02:44Crystal Palace
01:02:44commentary comes from
01:02:45Martin Fisher
01:02:48January will be defining
01:02:50it will certainly be tiring
01:02:51nine games over the next
01:02:5428 days for Newcastle
01:02:55in four different competitions
01:02:57Palace know all about
01:02:59hectic schedules
01:03:00this is their 32nd match
01:03:02of the campaign
01:03:03no Premier League side
01:03:05has played more
01:03:06one change for Newcastle
01:03:08Harvey Barnes
01:03:08replaced by Jacob Murphy
01:03:10who scored in their last
01:03:12two wins here
01:03:13over Palace
01:03:14the Eagles give a debut
01:03:15to Brennan Johnson
01:03:16who only joined them
01:03:18from Spurs on Friday
01:03:19for a club record fee
01:03:21of £35 million
01:03:26neither side
01:03:28in good form
01:03:29at the moment
01:03:29first win in four
01:03:31for Newcastle on Tuesday
01:03:33first point in four
01:03:35for Palace
01:03:36on Thursday
01:03:39to Nali
01:03:40to Nali
01:03:42two to his right
01:03:44gets it back
01:03:45from Gimmarais
01:03:46on now for Murphy
01:03:47Whistle waits in the middle
01:03:49Mitchell with the block
01:03:51Newcastle's corner
01:03:56some pieces again
01:03:57something that they have
01:03:58struggled with
01:03:59of late
01:04:00Lewis Hall
01:04:01to swing this in
01:04:02for Newcastle
01:04:03it's deep
01:04:04Henderson helps
01:04:04it on its way
01:04:08Whistle
01:04:09in by
01:04:10Tonali
01:04:12punched away
01:04:13by Henderson
01:04:14back in by Hall
01:04:15Cher
01:04:15great save
01:04:16Henderson
01:04:20well it wasn't the greatest
01:04:22of punches away
01:04:23by the Palace
01:04:24goalkeeper
01:04:25at the start
01:04:25of all that
01:04:27but he was
01:04:28in the right position
01:04:29to deal with it
01:04:30when it came back
01:04:31his way
01:04:31from Fabian
01:04:32Cher
01:04:36Gimmarais
01:04:37lovely ball
01:04:38Whistle
01:04:39in on goal
01:04:40squares for Gordon
01:04:421-0
01:04:43Newcastle
01:04:47eighth goal of the season
01:04:48for Anthony Gordon
01:04:50his first in the Premier League
01:04:52that hasn't come
01:04:52from the penalty spot
01:04:53this season
01:04:57I wonder there
01:04:59if Whistle
01:04:59is actually
01:05:00just ahead
01:05:01of Lerner
01:05:03so tight
01:05:04isn't it
01:05:08cut of the grass
01:05:09it looks ever
01:05:09so tight
01:05:10but it's
01:05:10the shoulder
01:05:11of Whistle
01:05:11that is just
01:05:12ahead
01:05:13of the Palace
01:05:14man
01:05:15it won't
01:05:16count
01:05:18Newcastle
01:05:18celebrations
01:05:19cut short
01:05:21Matthew Donahoe
01:05:22today's
01:05:24VAR
01:05:24with a decision
01:05:28inside
01:05:29for Gimmarais
01:05:30looking for
01:05:31Whistle
01:05:33and the block
01:05:34was by
01:05:35Canber
01:05:37Whistle
01:05:38looking sharp
01:05:39timed his run
01:05:40better there
01:05:41than he did
01:05:41earlier
01:05:432025
01:05:44brought welcome
01:05:45glory
01:05:46for both
01:05:47of these clubs
01:05:47a first
01:05:48domestic
01:05:48trophy
01:05:49and 70
01:05:49years
01:05:50for Newcastle
01:05:50first ever
01:05:52piece of silverware
01:05:53in Crystal Palace's
01:05:54history
01:05:55the future holds
01:05:56for them
01:05:57in 2026
01:05:59now Hughes
01:06:00Mitchell
01:06:01and Pino
01:06:01to his left
01:06:03it's Pino
01:06:04through for Hughes
01:06:05who's in
01:06:05oh he should have
01:06:06buried it
01:06:07what a chance
01:06:08for Will Hughes
01:06:10well he doesn't
01:06:11score many
01:06:11but he really
01:06:13should have
01:06:13buried that
01:06:14opportunity
01:06:15lovely way
01:06:16to pass
01:06:16by Pino
01:06:17and from
01:06:18there
01:06:19Hughes
01:06:19somehow
01:06:20puts it
01:06:21wide
01:06:22of the target
01:06:22and look
01:06:24at the reaction
01:06:24of Oliver
01:06:25Glasner
01:06:29now Gordon
01:06:31four round the corner
01:06:32Newcastle with four in the box
01:06:34here's Joe Linton
01:06:35now Whistle
01:06:36now Tudale
01:06:37and Palace
01:06:39scramble it away
01:06:42desperate defending
01:06:44but affected defending
01:06:45by Crystal Palace
01:06:46particularly by Tyric
01:06:47Mitchell
01:06:49Joel Linton
01:06:52Barnes with his first involvement
01:06:57stop by Canberra
01:07:03sixth corner that Newcastle
01:07:04have had today
01:07:05none of them have really
01:07:06caused Palace that much
01:07:07difficulty
01:07:10came off the bar
01:07:11that one
01:07:14and by Lorcan's face
01:07:16he intended it
01:07:17look at the swing
01:07:18on that
01:07:19Henderson will argue
01:07:20that he had it covered
01:07:23now a chance for
01:07:24Miley to cross
01:07:26Gay nods away
01:07:30good a nice trip by
01:07:32Wharton
01:07:35Newcastle getting the free kick
01:07:37this is where
01:07:39Oliver Glastonel will be getting
01:07:41a little concern that
01:07:42Palace are beginning to tire
01:07:44again
01:07:47first phase dealt with
01:07:48here's the second from Barnes
01:07:50arriving back post
01:07:51is Miley
01:07:52and it's not at home
01:07:56Bruno Gimaraes
01:07:57again
01:08:00comes up
01:08:01trumps for Newcastle
01:08:05Palace's resistance
01:08:07finally broken
01:08:09and Gimaraes
01:08:11nods home
01:08:12from inside the six
01:08:13short box
01:08:14his seventh
01:08:15Premier League goal
01:08:16of the season
01:08:17and that matches
01:08:19his best ever tally
01:08:20in the Premier League
01:08:21of two seasons ago
01:08:23it's another goal
01:08:25that Palace have
01:08:26conceded from a set piece
01:08:27it has been their
01:08:28undoing
01:08:29all too often
01:08:30in recent weeks
01:08:33driven in by Murphy
01:08:34Miley
01:08:35for Cher
01:08:36and a header from Barnes
01:08:38brilliantly saved
01:08:39by Henderson
01:08:40it almost bounced
01:08:41to Whissa
01:08:43that Canva
01:08:44was there
01:08:44for Palace
01:08:45to shove it
01:08:46behind
01:08:49Newcastle
01:08:49pressing hard
01:08:50now for a second goal
01:08:53another dangerous corner
01:08:55Joel Linton
01:08:55got a touch
01:08:56and it's in
01:08:58Malik Chow
01:08:59makes it two
01:08:59to Newcastle
01:09:00and that is that
01:09:02I'm sure
01:09:03from St James'
01:09:04another set piece
01:09:06brings another goal
01:09:07against Crystal Palace
01:09:09and once again
01:09:11they have
01:09:12tired significantly
01:09:14the longer the game
01:09:15has worn on
01:09:16real pinball in there
01:09:18for a second or two
01:09:19and it's
01:09:20Chow who gets
01:09:21the vital final touch
01:09:26forward by Kimmerich
01:09:27Barnes looked like
01:09:29he timed his run
01:09:29brilliantly
01:09:30Barnes is in here
01:09:31for Newcastle
01:09:32for number three
01:09:35how was that
01:09:37put wide
01:09:37by Joe Willock
01:09:40Henderson
01:09:41did really well
01:09:42to block the effort
01:09:44from Barnes
01:09:44but it looked like
01:09:45it was just
01:09:46a temporary reprieve
01:09:48as Joe Willock
01:09:49came bursting in
01:09:50from the far side
01:09:51from there
01:09:52Joe Willock
01:09:53has found a way
01:09:54of missing the target
01:09:56but it won't matter
01:09:57Newcastle have come
01:09:59through this one
01:09:59in the end
01:10:00rather comfortably
01:10:01Newcastle 2
01:10:02Palace 0
01:10:04Two goals
01:10:05happened from
01:10:06two set plays
01:10:06and that's
01:10:07what we have
01:10:09to solve
01:10:10the problem
01:10:10conceding goals
01:10:11from set plays
01:10:11I think from our
01:10:12last six defeats
01:10:13in five games
01:10:14we just conceded
01:10:15goals from set plays
01:10:16and not one
01:10:17just every single one
01:10:18today two
01:10:18four at Leeds
01:10:19two against
01:10:20Man United
01:10:21one against Tottenham
01:10:22two at Strasbourg
01:10:23you can't win games
01:10:25this is our responsibility
01:10:29it's my responsibility
01:10:30to give the players
01:10:31better solutions
01:10:32that they can defend
01:10:33it in a better way
01:10:34I think we work
01:10:35really hard
01:10:35at our set pieces
01:10:36and pleased to see
01:10:37them come off
01:10:37and they can win
01:10:38and lose your game
01:10:39so it was a defining
01:10:40factor today
01:10:41we're coming at 0-0
01:10:42we know we could
01:10:42play better
01:10:43I thought we did
01:10:44play better
01:10:44especially with the
01:10:45introduction of the
01:10:46substitutes
01:10:46I thought they all
01:10:47made a difference
01:10:48and finally we had
01:10:49some sort of strength
01:10:50back in the squad
01:10:51today
01:10:51you could see our
01:10:51bench was much
01:10:54stronger
01:10:55and I think that
01:10:56made the difference
01:10:57so back to back
01:10:58wins for Newcastle
01:10:59United
01:10:59and that coincides
01:11:01with two Premier
01:11:02League starts
01:11:02for Johan Wisser
01:11:03he offers something
01:11:04of an Isak-esque
01:11:06quality to Newcastle
01:11:07you see the difference
01:11:08I agree totally
01:11:11Gabby
01:11:12and it was a good
01:11:13link up play
01:11:13with him and
01:11:14Gemara today
01:11:14you see in the
01:11:15picture he drops
01:11:15deep and
01:11:16Valtomar is good
01:11:16at this as well
01:11:17dropping deep
01:11:17but I like to keep
01:11:18an eye on Vissa
01:11:19his movement
01:11:19after a striker
01:11:20he drags the
01:11:21centre half out of
01:11:22position
01:11:22but he's not happy
01:11:23we can get involved
01:11:24in link up play
01:11:24watch where he ends
01:11:25up here now
01:11:25he probably should
01:11:26score here
01:11:26Johan at the age
01:11:27of the box
01:11:27you know it's a
01:11:28timid sort of shot
01:11:29at the end of that
01:11:29but again he's got
01:11:30one thought in his
01:11:31mind is to get in
01:11:32the box
01:11:32and again Bruno
01:11:33receives the ball
01:11:34here look at Vissa
01:11:34his first thought is
01:11:36can he stretch the
01:11:36opposition can he
01:11:37play down the
01:11:38sides
01:11:38and again a spit
01:11:39like Isak last
01:11:40season he'd done
01:11:40that a lot
01:11:41it's very difficult
01:11:42for defenders to
01:11:43defend against
01:11:43pace and power
01:11:44he was marginally
01:11:44offside in this
01:11:45occasion obviously
01:11:45Gordon with the
01:11:47follow but the
01:11:47goal was rightly
01:11:48disallowed
01:11:48again can Bruno
01:11:49play that ball
01:11:50you see Vissa
01:11:51peeling on the
01:11:51back of the
01:11:51centre half
01:11:52that's what he's
01:11:53good at you know
01:11:54occupying the
01:11:54centre halves
01:11:55and again he
01:11:56doesn't come out
01:11:57to try and link
01:11:57up on the age of
01:11:58the box
01:11:58but maybe I've
01:11:58ultimately
01:11:58he's getting in
01:11:59the middle of the
01:12:00goal
01:12:00he's the best
01:12:00opportunity to
01:12:01score goals
01:12:01you know Palace
01:12:02just do enough to
01:12:03defend us but
01:12:04again him and
01:12:04Bruno are in the
01:12:05box here trying to
01:12:06score and Eddie
01:12:07mentioned set plays
01:12:07it's a huge part of
01:12:08the game
01:12:09we highlight Bruno in
01:12:10the middle of the
01:12:10box and we
01:12:11should mention
01:12:11Lewis Miley at the
01:12:12back who was
01:12:12absolutely brilliant
01:12:13today by the way
01:12:13keeps it alive and
01:12:15you want your
01:12:16captain to step up
01:12:16at a key moment
01:12:18the first goal in
01:12:18any game is so
01:12:19important and again
01:12:20captain fantastic
01:12:21steps up to the
01:12:22plate gets the
01:12:22all important goal
01:12:23and you look at his
01:12:24stats as well he's
01:12:25matched his best
01:12:26goal scoring record
01:12:27already and we're
01:12:28only in January so
01:12:28again such huge
01:12:29important goals and
01:12:31you mentioned Eddie
01:12:31mentioned momentum
01:12:32for this team now
01:12:33back to back ones
01:12:34can they push on
01:12:35they've got some big
01:12:35games coming up
01:12:36Oliver Glasner
01:12:37bemoaning the fact
01:12:38that Crystal Palace
01:12:39can't defend set pieces
01:12:40and they do have a
01:12:42terrible record
01:12:43they do I'm sure
01:12:44this is driving him
01:12:45I'm sure this is
01:12:45driving him mad
01:12:46because they're
01:12:47always in games
01:12:47you know they're
01:12:48defensively sound
01:12:49they're well
01:12:49organised well
01:12:50coached but like
01:12:51he said there if
01:12:52you're going to
01:12:52ship this many
01:12:53goals from set
01:12:54pieces over 50%
01:12:55of the goals
01:12:56they've conceded
01:12:56have been from set
01:12:57plays and it's
01:12:58been a real
01:12:59struggle for him
01:12:59and the more it
01:13:00happens the more
01:13:01it becomes a thing
01:13:02because I'm sure
01:13:02he'll do a meeting
01:13:03on it tomorrow
01:13:04or the next day
01:13:05around we need to
01:13:06be better at it
01:13:07and then the lads
01:13:08go out onto the
01:13:09pitch they give a
01:13:10corner away and
01:13:11instantly everyone's
01:13:12thinking oh no
01:13:13another corner
01:13:14you know we've
01:13:14struggled off these
01:13:15this season
01:13:15so the quicker they
01:13:16fix it the better
01:13:17easier said than done
01:13:19but I'm sure
01:13:20Glasgow will be
01:13:20working hard at it
01:13:21okay thank you
01:13:22Tottenham staggered
01:13:23into 2026 with a
01:13:24goalless draw of
01:13:25Brentford on New
01:13:26Year's Day their
01:13:27first in 137 Premier
01:13:28League games they
01:13:29were hoping for
01:13:30better at home to
01:13:31upwardly mobile
01:13:32Sunderland your
01:13:33commentator Robin
01:13:35Cowan
01:13:36goalless draws for both
01:13:37Spurs and Sunderland to
01:13:38begin the new year but
01:13:39the mood from the
01:13:40respective fan bases
01:13:41couldn't be more
01:13:42different Tottenham's
01:13:43travelling fans were
01:13:44vociferous in their
01:13:45dissatisfaction and
01:13:46another toothless
01:13:47display in response
01:13:48Thomas Frank has
01:13:49replaced a holding
01:13:50midfielder in
01:13:51João Polinha with a
01:13:52more attack minded
01:13:53Matthias Tell the
01:13:54other change sees
01:13:55Ben Davis make just
01:13:56his second Premier
01:13:57League appearance of
01:13:57the season and first
01:13:59from the start
01:14:00Sunderland have taken
01:14:01points of all of the
01:14:02current top four in the
01:14:03Premier League Manchester
01:14:04City the latest side to
01:14:06leave the stadium of
01:14:06light frustrated
01:14:07Regis Labris names the
01:14:09same 11 with this a
01:14:10fixture former Arsenal
01:14:11man Granit Xhaka will
01:14:12have been especially
01:14:13looking forward to
01:14:19Archie Gray
01:14:21given away but Granit
01:14:23Xhaka can't keep hold
01:14:24of it
01:14:25Gray
01:14:27allowed to advance
01:14:29options right and
01:14:30left
01:14:31Serkin got a little
01:14:32touch on it
01:14:34Porro's delivery
01:14:36Mukiele
01:14:38the faintest of glances
01:14:40ahead of Rashadison
01:14:43had he not got that
01:14:45touch
01:14:45that would have been
01:14:461-0
01:14:49Thomas Frank has
01:14:51admitted that the
01:14:51first half of the
01:14:53season as Tottenham
01:14:54head coach has been
01:14:55difficult to enjoy
01:14:58out of there
01:14:59and now
01:15:00and now
01:15:01Tell
01:15:02Ty
01:15:02went to place it
01:15:06really not a bad
01:15:07effort from Tell
01:15:08but
01:15:09Roof's
01:15:09but pretty sure
01:15:10that
01:15:11that was heading
01:15:12wide
01:15:15good spell
01:15:16of sustained
01:15:16pressure this
01:15:17from Tottenham
01:15:18but
01:15:18is there something
01:15:19at the end of it
01:15:20Romero
01:15:45takes it down
01:15:48Van Der Ven
01:15:48and touched in
01:15:50by Ben
01:15:51Davis
01:15:54well Tottenham
01:15:55looking for
01:15:56more potency
01:15:58up front
01:15:59and it's the
01:16:01defenders who
01:16:01combine
01:16:02to get their
01:16:03first goal
01:16:04you've got to say
01:16:05this was slapdash
01:16:06from Sunderland
01:16:08Christian Romero
01:16:09had time to
01:16:10take it down
01:16:10slip
01:16:12and
01:16:13Mickey
01:16:13Van Der Ven
01:16:14shot
01:16:14is turned
01:16:15in
01:16:16by Ben
01:16:17Davis
01:16:19his first
01:16:20Spurs goal
01:16:21in over
01:16:22two years
01:16:24some hope
01:16:25for Reggie
01:16:26Slabris
01:16:26only Aston Villa
01:16:27have won more
01:16:27points from
01:16:28losing positions
01:16:29this season
01:16:30than Sunderland
01:16:32Kiele
01:16:34Charleston
01:16:35wins it
01:16:36Hume
01:16:37has a go
01:16:41opened up
01:16:41nicely for him
01:16:44no one
01:16:45really closing
01:16:45him down
01:16:47they've really
01:16:48failed to lay
01:16:48a glove on
01:16:49Tottenham so
01:16:50far in this
01:16:50first half
01:16:55Ben Takur
01:16:56tried to
01:16:56flick that
01:16:57forward
01:16:58here's
01:16:58Trae Hume
01:16:59onto
01:16:59Mayenda
01:17:04finds

01:17:19unconvincing
01:17:20from the
01:17:21Tottenham

01:17:24this was a
01:17:25chance

01:19:28Frank
01:19:28has
01:19:30this
01:19:30section
01:19:31of the
01:19:31season
01:19:31as a
01:19:32marathon
01:19:32and I
01:19:33think
01:19:33they've
01:19:34hit the
01:19:34wall
01:19:36two
01:19:37minutes
01:19:37stoppage
01:19:38time
01:19:38remaining
01:19:41Pedro
01:19:41Porro
01:19:42can't
01:19:43slide
01:19:44Polinia
01:19:46or
01:19:46Rosewell
01:19:47but
01:19:47couldn't
01:19:49hit the
01:19:49target
01:19:49and is
01:19:50that
01:19:50Tottenham's
01:19:51final chance
01:19:54more frustration
01:19:55for the Spurs
01:19:56fans
01:19:57and a familiar
01:19:58sound for
01:19:58Thomas Frank
01:20:01what's your
01:20:02kind of message
01:20:02and is there
01:20:03an understanding
01:20:03about the
01:20:04frustration
01:20:04from the
01:20:05fans
01:20:05no but I
01:20:06think
01:20:07the first
01:20:08and foremost
01:20:08throughout the
01:20:08game
01:20:08I think
01:20:09the fans
01:20:09were very
01:20:10good
01:20:10and backing
01:20:11us
01:20:11and were
01:20:12behind the
01:20:12team
01:20:12that's
01:20:12all we're
01:20:13asking for
01:20:13after I
01:20:14always said
01:20:14that's
01:20:15different
01:20:15so and I
01:20:16also pretty
01:20:17sure that
01:20:17the fans
01:20:17they will
01:20:18acknowledge
01:20:19especially
01:20:19first half
01:20:20acknowledge
01:20:21the hard
01:20:21work
01:20:21throughout
01:20:22the game
01:20:22from the
01:20:22players
01:20:23acknowledge
01:20:23that
01:20:23they tried
01:20:24so hard
01:20:24throughout
01:20:25the game
01:20:26sometimes
01:20:26it just
01:20:26don't go
01:20:27your way
01:20:28we reach
01:20:2830 points
01:20:29this afternoon
01:20:30which is
01:20:31really positive
01:20:31for us
01:20:32and it
01:20:33gives us
01:20:33confidence
01:20:34because even
01:20:35if you go
01:20:36through a
01:20:36difficult
01:20:36period
01:20:37I think
01:20:37it was the
01:20:38case this
01:20:38afternoon
01:20:38you always
01:20:41you're always
01:20:41on the edge
01:20:42you don't
01:20:43you don't
01:20:43give up
01:20:44and the
01:20:45opponent
01:20:45I think
01:20:46can feel
01:20:47your quality
01:20:47so I think
01:20:48it's really
01:20:49positive for
01:20:49the future
01:20:50but we'll
01:20:51have another
01:20:51challenge in
01:20:52three days
01:20:52and go
01:20:53again
01:20:53we're playing
01:20:54with three
01:20:55front players
01:20:55that hasn't
01:20:56got that many
01:20:57Premier League
01:20:57goals in
01:20:57Wilson
01:20:58Mati
01:20:58and also
01:20:59Kolo
01:20:59a very good
01:21:01player
01:21:01but probably
01:21:02lack the
01:21:03final two
01:21:04three good
01:21:04actions
01:21:05and goal
01:21:05and assist
01:21:06sometimes
01:21:07you're on a
01:21:07spell where
01:21:08you need
01:21:08to work
01:21:08very hard
01:21:09to get
01:21:10the margins
01:21:10on your
01:21:11side
01:21:12frustration
01:21:13for Spurs
01:21:13because in
01:21:14that first
01:21:14half
01:21:14they looked
01:21:15far the
01:21:16better
01:21:16team
01:21:16had so
01:21:17many chances
01:21:17to put
01:21:18the game
01:21:18away
01:21:18yeah
01:21:19the game
01:21:19was there
01:21:20for them
01:21:20I preferred
01:21:21their approach
01:21:21I thought
01:21:22they were
01:21:22slightly more
01:21:23aggressive
01:21:23you can see
01:21:24here this is
01:21:24right from the
01:21:24start
01:21:25after Sunderland
01:21:26not going to
01:21:27give Sunderland
01:21:27an easy
01:21:28afternoon
01:21:28which sometimes
01:21:29it feels like
01:21:29they can
01:21:30at this stadium
01:21:31they got after
01:21:31them but then
01:21:32poor decision
01:21:33from Richarlison
01:21:33and the story
01:21:34of it was
01:21:35they just
01:21:35really lack
01:21:36quality
01:21:37it's not a
01:21:38difficult ball
01:21:38here from
01:21:39Benton Kerr
01:21:39big space
01:21:40to leave that
01:21:41in for Richarlison
01:21:42he misses it
01:21:43lose the chance
01:21:44they get it
01:21:44back again
01:21:45Colin Rwani
01:21:47again easy
01:21:48pass
01:21:48big big space
01:21:49to get that
01:21:50in with Premier
01:21:50League quality
01:21:51doesn't manage
01:21:52to find it
01:21:53Sunderland off
01:21:54the hook again
01:21:55and when Spurs
01:21:56were on top
01:21:56and Thomas Frank
01:21:57talked about
01:21:58missing some
01:21:58opportunities
01:22:00here Pedro
01:22:00Porro when he
01:22:01breaks
01:22:01he finally shows
01:22:03a moment of
01:22:03quality and you
01:22:04think this is it
01:22:04what a ball
01:22:05and then they
01:22:06lack quality on
01:22:07the end of it
01:22:07with a really
01:22:08poor first touch
01:22:09and the chance
01:22:09fizzles out
01:22:10and then when
01:22:11you need a
01:22:11moment of quality
01:22:12this Sunderland
01:22:12side never know
01:22:13when they're beat
01:22:14and this is real
01:22:15top top draw
01:22:16the moment of
01:22:16quality didn't
01:22:17come from Spurs
01:22:17it comes from
01:22:18Sunderland
01:22:19fantastic link up
01:22:20from Brobby
01:22:20and that pass
01:22:21from Le Fay
01:22:21on the volley
01:22:22to get the weight
01:22:23of it and the
01:22:24direction of it
01:22:24right
01:22:25and then an
01:22:26emphatic finish
01:22:27from Brobby
01:22:28smashes right
01:22:28through the ball
01:22:30absolutely no
01:22:30chance for the
01:22:31goalkeeper
01:22:32and this Sunderland
01:22:33train keeps on
01:22:33rolling and
01:22:34they're very
01:22:35very difficult
01:22:35to stop at the
01:22:36moment
01:22:36and there's
01:22:37pressure on
01:22:37Thomas Frank
01:22:38you could hear
01:22:38the boos
01:22:39couldn't you
01:22:39at the end
01:22:40of the game
01:22:41what do you feel
01:22:42the mood
01:22:43music is like
01:22:44around Spurs
01:22:45they're 13th
01:22:46couple of wins
01:22:46they're in the
01:22:47Champions League
01:22:47position
01:22:48it's very tight
01:22:48in the middle
01:22:49of the league
01:22:49I know that's
01:22:50not what Thomas
01:22:51Frank wants
01:22:51he wants results
01:22:52and the fans
01:22:52want results
01:22:53but I think
01:22:54Stake Wolf
01:22:54maybe
01:22:55I know Johnson's
01:22:55left this week
01:22:56maybe he'll get
01:22:56money in the
01:22:57January window
01:22:57to strengthen
01:22:58his squad
01:22:59and push them
01:22:59up the league
01:23:00okay
01:23:00shall we take a
01:23:02look at all
01:23:02the goals
01:23:02from yesterday
01:23:03then
01:23:09oh deary me
01:23:11given straight
01:23:11to Evan Nielsen
01:23:17and away from
01:23:18Semenyo
01:23:19and still going
01:23:20and across
01:23:21and blocked
01:23:22but in
01:23:23Arsenal level
01:23:24and it is
01:23:25Gabriel
01:23:27Jokoret
01:23:28has got the
01:23:29wrong side
01:23:29of his man
01:23:30Sanessi
01:23:30struggling
01:23:31to recover
01:23:31Odegaard
01:23:32now
01:23:33Rice
01:23:33brilliant
01:23:35absolutely
01:23:36clinical
01:23:37from
01:23:37Declan Rice
01:23:40here's
01:23:41Bukayo
01:23:41Saka
01:23:42Rice

01:23:47Cook
01:23:49opens up
01:23:50for the
01:23:50hit
01:23:50here
01:23:51what a
01:23:52hit
01:23:52too
01:23:53from
01:23:53Kruppi
01:23:55Rodgers
01:23:57Watkins
01:24:02Cash is in
01:24:03space
01:24:03Kamara's

01:24:05McGinn
01:24:06coming in

01:24:10Aston Villa
01:24:11Gibbs-White
01:24:12bursting forward
01:24:12and he's
01:24:13onside
01:24:13it's Morgan
01:24:14Gibbs-White
01:24:15for Forrest
01:24:17hope is
01:24:18restored

01:24:23the goalkeeper
01:24:24is in

01:24:36is in
01:24:37there
01:24:37blasted
01:24:37home
01:24:38by
01:24:38Ruta
01:24:41Bucicicu
01:24:41tries to
01:24:42send it
01:24:42away
01:24:42sliding
01:24:43in
01:24:43but
01:24:44Yasin
01:24:44Ayari
01:24:45collects
01:24:45it
01:24:45here
01:24:45oh
01:24:46it's
01:24:46the
01:24:46perfect
01:24:46start
01:24:47to
01:24:47the
01:24:47second
01:24:47half
01:24:48for
01:24:48Brighton
01:24:49Hove
01:24:49Albion
01:24:52and it
01:24:53goes to
01:24:53Huang
01:24:54Huang's
01:24:55ball
01:24:55across
01:24:56and
01:24:56Wolves
01:24:57in
01:24:57front
01:25:02as far
01:25:03as
01:25:03Mane
01:25:04who goes
01:25:04down
01:25:05and wins
01:25:05the penalty
01:25:07so
01:25:08Huang
01:25:08with an
01:25:09opportunity
01:25:09to give
01:25:10Wolves
01:25:11a 2-0
01:25:12lead
01:25:13an opportunity
01:25:14he takes
01:25:18Mane's onside
01:25:19no question
01:25:20of that
01:25:20and he has
01:25:21a goal
01:25:22and it's
01:25:23three
01:25:28a big
01:25:29moment
01:25:29a big day
01:25:29for Wolves
01:25:30I know
01:25:31you're pleased
01:25:32for your old
01:25:33team there
01:25:33one of your
01:25:34other old
01:25:35teams as a
01:25:35player
01:25:35West Ham
01:25:36in big
01:25:36trouble
01:25:37yeah it seems
01:25:38that way
01:25:38doesn't it
01:25:38I thought
01:25:39that when
01:25:40they appointed
01:25:40Nuno
01:25:41that they would
01:25:42start to move
01:25:42themselves away
01:25:43and we'd see
01:25:43an upturn
01:25:44it hasn't
01:25:45hasn't quite
01:25:45gone that way
01:25:46yet
01:25:46I'm sure
01:25:46they'll be
01:25:47doing their
01:25:47best in
01:25:48January
01:25:48to give
01:25:49him some
01:25:49support
01:25:49and try
01:25:50and give
01:25:50themselves
01:25:51an opportunity
01:25:51because that
01:25:52gap just
01:25:52seems to be
01:25:53widening
01:25:53you know
01:25:54Nottingham
01:25:54Forest
01:25:54haven't quite
01:25:55capitalised
01:25:55but Leeds
01:25:56have moved
01:25:56themselves
01:25:56away from
01:25:57it
01:25:57so
01:25:58fantastic
01:25:58win for
01:25:59Wolves
01:25:59absolutely
01:25:59delighted
01:26:00for Rob
01:26:00as well
01:26:00because I
01:26:01know he's
01:26:01working his
01:26:01socks off
01:26:02there and
01:26:02he's got
01:26:02their first
01:26:03victory
01:26:03which will
01:26:04feel like
01:26:04a big one
01:26:05but West Ham
01:26:06with an awful
01:26:06lot of work
01:26:07to do to move
01:26:07away from
01:26:08that bottom
01:26:08three
01:26:08Big game
01:26:09against Forest
01:26:09on Tuesday
01:26:09of course
01:26:10now we've
01:26:10loved having
01:26:11you here
01:26:11haven't we
01:26:11we've had
01:26:12a great day
01:26:12today
01:26:12we've all
01:26:13been in
01:26:13since 12
01:26:13o'clock
01:26:14watching all
01:26:14the matches
01:26:15I'm sure
01:26:15you've had
01:26:16a lovely
01:26:16time
01:26:16you'd much
01:26:17rather be
01:26:18managing
01:26:18of course
01:26:22this has
01:26:23been great
01:26:23it's not
01:26:24quite as
01:26:24stressful as
01:26:25managing
01:26:25but I do
01:26:26miss being
01:26:26on the
01:26:27touchline
01:26:27it's a
01:26:27fantastic
01:26:28feeling
01:26:28so hopefully
01:26:29back soon
01:26:29hopefully
01:26:30something comes
01:26:30up that
01:26:31you feel
01:26:31you want
01:26:32to do
01:26:32more than
01:26:33spend time
01:26:33with Shea
01:26:33and I
01:26:33yeah
01:26:34good choice
01:26:35really
01:26:36okay here's
01:26:37how the
01:26:38Premier League
01:26:38table looks
01:26:39after 20
01:26:39games played
01:26:40back to back
01:26:41draws for
01:26:42Manchester City
01:26:42means Arsenal
01:26:43have a six
01:26:44point lead
01:26:44at the top
01:26:45Brentford have
01:26:45made their
01:26:46joint best
01:26:46start to a
01:26:47Premier League
01:26:47season and
01:26:47are only four
01:26:48points off
01:26:48Liverpool in
01:26:49fourth in
01:26:49fact a mere
01:26:50four point
01:26:50separates
01:26:51fifth all
01:26:51the way
01:26:51down to
01:26:5114th
01:26:52Leeds
01:26:52extend their
01:26:53gap above
01:26:54the bottom
01:26:54three to a
01:26:54healthy eight
01:26:55points after a
01:26:56seventh match
01:26:56without defeat
01:26:57but Crystal
01:26:57Palace's run
01:26:58of poor
01:26:58form continues
01:26:59with a
01:27:00fourth league
01:27:00loss in
01:27:01five now
01:27:02it's time
01:27:02for the
01:27:03results of
01:27:04goal of the
01:27:04month
01:27:19and in
01:27:20third place
01:27:21is Fulham's
01:27:22Harry Wilson
01:27:23on 23.92%
01:27:26of the vote
01:27:27this is
01:27:27relevant
01:27:28because Morgan
01:27:28Rogers got
01:27:2923.96%
01:27:31of the vote
01:27:33talk about
01:27:33tight margins
01:27:34for his goal
01:27:35against Manchester
01:27:35United
01:27:36so the winner
01:27:37with 26.46%
01:27:40well it was a
01:27:40team goal really
01:27:41wasn't it
01:27:41but it was
01:27:42finished by
01:27:42Dominic
01:27:43Calvert-Lewin
01:27:43for Leeds
01:27:44United
01:27:49he's
01:27:50did that
01:27:50well though
01:27:52stack
01:27:53super
01:27:54ball from
01:27:55him
01:27:55and to
01:27:58Aronson
01:27:58numbers forward
01:27:59here
01:27:59leads
01:28:00Aronson
01:28:00Calvert-Lewin
01:28:07it's a fabulous
01:28:08team goal
01:28:11and Calvert-Lewin's
01:28:12incredible streak
01:28:13in front of
01:28:14goal continues
01:28:19scored on the
01:28:2028th of December
01:28:21against Sunderland
01:28:22a lovely team goal
01:28:22happy with that
01:28:23one
01:28:23yeah
01:28:24I thought they were
01:28:25all good goals
01:28:25but nice to see a team
01:28:26goal win
01:28:27thanks for coming
01:28:27thanks for coming
01:28:28Shay as well
01:28:29we'll see you again
01:28:29definitely
01:28:30that's it from all of us
01:28:31so the festive period
01:28:32ends with Arsenal
01:28:33six points clear
01:28:34at the top of the table
01:28:34as Manchester City
01:28:35are left frustrated
01:28:36by the Enzo Late Show
01:28:37goodnight
