00:00PEGI DICIOTTO
00:30There's a 10-year-old girl who the game sets up may or may not be your daughter who is
00:36watching you.
00:36And if you play ghost-like and you don't kill anyone and you're very stealthy,
00:40then she does drawings on the wall of her bedroom that present you as a father figure and they're very
00:46calm.
00:48And by contrast, if you murder everybody and you play very violent,
00:51she's got like black crayon and she's doing these monstrous drawings.
00:54You're affecting her.
00:55And we've had so many players come to Raph or come to me or come to someone on the team
01:00and say like, wow, that moment where I walked into her room and I saw that drawing on the wall
01:05and I realized like an impressionistic child is watching how I handle the situation
01:11and I changed my play style because of that.
01:14So anyway, long story short, there's something kind of magical about Emily for us in the game.
01:19And as soon as we finished Dishonored 1, we began talking about how what we really felt energy about
01:26was continuing Emily's story.
01:28What kind of person would she grow up to be?
01:30What kind of empress would she be?
01:31And as you find out in the game, what kind of outlaw would she be?
01:35Right.
01:35Speaking of growing up, she's clearly not the same age she was when we last saw her.
01:41How old is she now?
01:42Yeah.
01:43The once 10-year-old girl is now the 25-year-old woman.
01:48She's been through 15 years of history since the last game and the events of Dishonored 2.
01:53What else can you tell us about the person that she's become and grown from since being in the original
01:58game
01:58and being such a little girl to being the beautiful young woman she is now?
02:03Well, we've talked a lot about what she would be like as a person
02:07because she was born the daughter of the empress, very privileged life, living in Dunwall Tower,
02:12royalty, best education, all of that.
02:15But she was very imaginative.
02:16In the first game, she's always talking about,
02:18someday I'm going to be on a sailing ship tracking whales and fighting pirates.
02:23And, you know, she's an imaginative kid.
02:25But then this terrible thing happens where her mother is,
02:28there's a political assassination.
02:29Her mother's killed in front of her.
02:31She's taken away by these people, rescued by Corvo.
02:34And so she's a person of privilege but then who dealt with a big tragedy.
02:38And she's sort of marred by that.
02:39And then she spends the next 15 years raised and educated by Corvo Itano.
02:45And so that's kind of, she's a hybrid of those things.
02:50So cool.
02:50You could play as her for the entire game.
02:52Is that correct?
02:53Yeah.
02:54The way we set the new game up is that you start the game 15 years after the rat plague
02:58has ended.
03:00And you play for about the first 20 or 30 minutes as Emily.
03:04You get to kind of see a day in her life.
03:06And you get to see Corvo for the first time as a character moving around in the world.
03:11And then there's a dramatic pivotal event that happens.
03:14And from that point, you choose to finish the game as either Emily or pick it up as Corvo.
03:20And for the rest of the game, you're either Emily, Caldwin, or you're Corvo Itano.
03:25You saw that in the trailer that they introduced some new powers.
03:28Do you want to lead us into those?
03:30Can we take a look at those again?
03:31Yeah.
03:31So what you saw there is Far Reach.
03:37Emily doesn't have Blink.
03:39Blink was a signature power in the first game.
03:43There was a moment where all the powers were optional.
03:46You bought them with runes and you upgrade the ones you want.
03:49There was a moment near the end of the project when Rafael Colantonio, co-creative director, said,
03:54What if we just gave everybody Blink?
03:57And it transformed the game.
03:58It was a signature mechanic.
04:00So for Emily, it was kind of a bold call for us to say she doesn't have Blink.
04:03She's going to have Far Reach, which allows you to upgrade in many different ways.
04:07You can use it to pull yourself across.
04:10You can stick to walls.
04:11You can, like, yank people toward you and assassinate them in midair.
04:15You can do different things with it.
04:16It's as cool as Blink, but mechanically different.
04:19And at the end of that video, we saw another power she has called Shadow Walk
04:22that we'll be talking more about in the future.
