00:30Percelling the consequences to what you do
00:31and seeing how the simulation deals with your choices
00:35It feels like the player has full ownership of his experience
00:44My goal is that everything that the player wants to do
00:47he should be able to do it
00:49As you can go everywhere
00:51then it has to be functional everywhere
00:54If he sees a door, it's an opponent-able door
00:57If he sees a roof, he should be able to climb there
00:59and he knows that this is a valid path
01:01As you guide Corvo through the world
01:03as you see this world from a first-person perspective
01:06you can constantly approach the game
01:08with all-out violence or subtlety
01:10like, you know, you can be very surgical
01:12and how you move into an environment
01:13and how you deal with the assassination target
01:17What is really interesting in Dishonored
01:21is the possibility for the player
01:24to really invent his story
01:28he can really play the game
01:31the way he really wants
01:33he can really play the game
01:35he can play the game
01:36without ever killing anyone
01:38or being a savage beast
01:40and attacking everyone
01:43but it will have consequences in the game
01:45I feel like we might have made the first assassination game
01:48where you don't actually have to kill anybody
01:49So, the IA in Dishonored
01:53is quite particular
01:55in the sense
01:56where it really needs to react
01:57to what the player is capable of doing
02:00whether it be by his powers
02:01or whether it be
02:04that the player can be quite furtive
02:07compared to the IA
02:09In Dishonored, the player has the possibility
02:11to play in different ways
02:13and if he chooses the really furtive way
02:17to try to...
02:18There's really no reason for you to listen to me
02:20If you ever need steady work
02:22you come see me
02:23He can listen to what the IA will say
02:26He can listen to the conversations
02:29He can listen to the conversations
02:31He can obtain some...
02:32He can have some indices
02:33on how to solve his mission
02:39So, the player will be able to use
02:41the combinations of powers
02:43that are very varied
02:45For example
02:46they will be able to stop the time
02:48and start to use their ball
02:50to shoot on the different enemies
02:53The lights will take the normal time
02:54and all enemies in the room
02:56will die
02:56He can use this
02:58completely incredible combinations
03:01and I think
03:02we will be quite surprised
03:04what the players will be able to do
03:07So, when people play Dishonored
03:08and once in a while
03:09they figure out something
03:10that just feels utterly creative to them
03:13and
03:14that they wouldn't have expected
03:15to be able to do in the game
03:17that is a magic moment for us
03:18That's what we live for
03:21I watched a guy the other day
03:22do something I had never seen in Dishonored before
03:24He was running away
03:26after killing off
03:26a couple of high profile
03:28assassination targets
03:29two members of parliament
03:31and he was up high
03:32on a balcony
03:32and the jump would have killed him
03:34because it was maybe four stories up
03:36but he had the possession power
03:38and in our game
03:38when you possess somebody
03:39it's not like you leave your body behind
03:41and possess them with your mind
03:42it's a corporeal thing
03:44so you move physically into them
03:46and then you pilot them around
03:47and so he jumped off of this balcony
03:49four stories up
03:50and plummeted to the ground
03:52and I thought he was going to die
03:53on the pavement next to the river
03:55but he was angling for this guard
03:57that was walking a patrol down there
03:59and as he got close to the guard
04:01he activated the possession power
04:03and moved into the guy
04:04and it kills the inertia of the fall
04:06and he lived and walked past the other guards
04:08who didn't know anything was wrong
04:10and that is a moment you can't have in another game
04:13What? What? What's happening?
04:16Once a programmer came back to us
04:18and he shot a little video of something
04:20that was really fun he wanted to show us
04:21so what he did was that
04:23he summoned a set of rats
04:25then he froze time
04:27then he pulled out the spring razor
04:30which is this kind of mine
04:31that you can stick to things
04:32so he could actually froze the rat
04:34stick the mine to the rat
04:36then he possessed the rat
04:38and then he moved the rat around
04:39and close to a guard
04:42and ejected as the mine exploded
04:44I think what is special to Dishonored
04:46is that the moment-to-moment emotion is great
04:49in a shooter for example
04:51you know that shooting at a guy will kill you
04:53and you have to take cover and progress
04:58but in Dishonored you can combine things
05:01in a way that even the result can be unpredictable
05:04For us the thing that is a thrill
05:05is whenever we are surprised by the game
05:08we see that for the first time
05:09like a character responding to something
05:11all those powers will chain together
05:13and still simulation works
05:16for us it's really mind-blowing
05:19What I like to do when I'm playing games
05:21to share experiences
05:22every player experience would be pretty different
05:25I would love the player to feel that
