Shocking Video: Hospital Staff Allegedly Drink Alcohol Inside Pathology Lab in Varanasi

A controversial video has surfaced from Varanasi, showing hospital employees allegedly consuming alcohol and smoking inside the pathology department of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Government Hospital.

The viral footage, which reportedly surfaced on Saturday, shows three men sitting around a table placed between pathology machines with glasses of alcohol, snacks and cigarettes. A fourth person is seen recording the video. Two separate clips of around 20 seconds each have circulated on social media.

In the video, a person is seen opening the lab refrigerator, taking out items, placing them on a plate and joining the others at the table. Moments later, another individual lights a cigarette inside the lab cabin.

The incident has raised serious concerns because the pathology lab is used to conduct blood tests for patients visiting the hospital’s emergency and outpatient departments, including samples from pregnant women.

Chief Medical Superintendent R. S. Ram said the video has come to his notice and an investigation has been ordered.

He stated that the footage appears to be from before he took charge but described the act as highly inappropriate. “The video is being investigated. After the probe, strict action will be taken against those responsible,” he said.

Hospital authorities are currently trying to identify the lab technicians and contract staff visible in the footage. Officials said strict disciplinary action will be taken if the allegations are confirmed.

The incident has sparked concern among patients and staff, raising questions about workplace discipline and hygiene standards inside a critical medical facility.
