00:00Well, we talk a lot around here about the Texans, what they need to do,
00:06and then when they do do something, we like to really dig into it.
00:11Is it good? It's bad? Is it ugly?
00:13What do we like? What do we not like?
00:15Where do they need to go next?
00:17Love that banter. Love having those conversations.
00:20Hell, I was still going back and forth this morning, Ron,
00:22with somebody about the O-line.
00:24The O-line video got posted of, like, there's no sugarcoating it.
00:28And I love it, by the way.
00:31I'm going back and forth with some old boy about, well, they did get Ariante Urshry,
00:34and I said, yeah, well, they got one.
00:35But they missed on a few, so that's good banter.
00:39But I'm going to tell you, Ron,
00:40and I think this offense in Houston leaves a lot to be desired.
00:43I think for us as fans, us as media members, and I'll be honest with you,
00:51I don't think that anybody in the uniform over there looks at this team and goes,
00:56yeah, man, we are lights out.
00:58We got an explosive group.
00:59It's time to go light the scoreboard up.
01:02Like, I think it's the approach, the way they build the roster,
01:07kind of what they expect from this offense,
01:09I think it's pretty understood team-wide what they're looking at.
01:12But I'm going to tell you, man, and my point is,
01:14I don't think C.J. Stroud is chomping at the bit to be in this offense.
01:18I think he's going to do the best that he can.
01:20I think he's going to do the best that he can.
01:22All right?
01:23But there's one player out there, boys, that I think is in hog heaven,
01:27and that is Dalton Schultz.
01:29I don't know if y'all heard this, but Dalton Schultz, he went on Jim Rome.
01:33And I didn't even know, to be honest with you,
01:34I didn't know Jim Rome was still around until we hit,
01:37until Tyler said he was in the building the other day.
01:40I didn't know Jim Rome was still doing his thing on radio.
01:42You did?
01:43That's wild.
01:44You don't go into the jungle often, huh?
01:46He's moved more digital.
01:48But, yeah.
01:48Is that the deal?
01:48Is that what it is?
01:49When Tyler said he was in the building the other day,
01:51I guess it was a month ago or so, two months ago maybe,
01:53I was like, really, what's Jim doing over there?
01:54He taking over?
01:55Yeah.
01:56He taking our spot or what?
01:57Right over there.
01:57He was in the Super Bowl.
01:58Well, then I saw him in the Super Bowl.
01:59I saw him in the Super Bowl.
02:00This was before that.
02:02But Jim Rome sounds just like Jim Rome 20 years ago.
02:05But Dalton Schultz went on with Jim Rome.
02:07And here's what Dalton Schultz,
02:10how Dalton Schultz feels about his little contract extension
02:14and being here in Houston over the past couple of years
02:18as well as moving forward for the next couple.
02:20To get that deal done, you got a one-year extension done,
02:22and that's going to take you through 2027.
02:24How nice is it not to have to worry about that
02:26and just focus on ball and not worry about your contract?
02:28Yeah, dude.
02:29It's awesome.
02:30There was many years of my career that I was like,
02:33as soon as the season was done,
02:34that was at the absolute forefront of my mind,
02:37stressing, worrying, where am I going to be?
02:40Where am I going to go?
02:41Am I going to have security for my family?
02:44So I've spent my years doing that.
02:46And I'd say after the last contract that we just did with Houston,
02:50that three-year extension just really put me in a place mentally
02:54that was fully at ease.
02:56And then obviously having gone through it at this point, dude,
02:59I'm just happy to be here.
03:01I love Houston.
03:02I love the Texans.
03:04I love my teammates.
03:04I love everything that has kind of been established here
03:07since D'Amico's gotten here.
03:09And I'm really excited to just kind of continue that
03:11and hopefully build that into a Super Bowl season.
03:15Super no-nonsense guy, it seems like.
03:17That was different Dalton Shills than we encountered it.
03:20Yeah, he was in a rough spot at the Super Bowl.
03:22But I'll be honest,
03:23I don't know that there's a Texans player right now.
03:26Now you start – I'm going to run down the list here,
03:27but you start running down the list of what's going on for Dalton Shills.
03:31One, he's making $12 million a year,
03:33which is, as we know, is equal to what Travis Kelsey's making.
03:38So, one, he's getting paid.
03:40Two, he did a 180 last season.
03:44Bobby Sloick's last year here in that offense
03:46was an absolute nightmare for Dalton Shills.
03:49I was ready to get out of the Dalton Shills business.
03:51It was hard to watch 86 play football on Sundays,
03:55if I'm being completely honest.
03:56And I think I made that very clear.
03:58Very clear.
03:58He did a 180 last season.
04:02Damn near had a career year from a statistics standpoint.
04:06And if you watched him play,
04:08was really, really good on multiple fronts.
04:12Right?
04:12I mean, you don't expect Dalton Shills to go out there
04:14and be the lead back and do fullback things
04:18and de-cleat guys and pancake guys.
04:20I'm not saying that was the case by any means.
04:22But clearly went out there and felt like he fit
04:25and enjoyed and was being asked to do things
04:28that he is capable of doing at a high level.
04:33I've mentioned, had Damian had a career year last year, Ron.
04:36He has to feel.
04:37He has to feel like this year
04:41it's extremely possible to have even a better year,
04:44which would be a career year for him in this offense.
04:47I mean, this is an offense.
04:48This system is a great fit for him.
04:50He's mentioned that.
04:51It is a system.
04:53Why is it a great fit for him?
04:54Because he said it.
04:55No, not for me, but just because he said it.
04:57I'm just saying, when you watch what they want to do
04:59in this system, it's a great fit
05:01because, like, usually we look at, like,
05:04oh, man, the tight end, the Dalton Schultz
05:06in the middle of the field is like a safety valve.
05:08Yeah.
05:08Well, that's, like, number one.
05:10Yeah.
05:10That's, like, one of the number one things
05:13this offense wants to do is get it out quick
05:15right there, and he is a beneficiary of that
05:20immediately in this offense.
05:22Yeah, no question.
05:23And I think he was more referring to, like,
05:26the terminology and kind of the techniques
05:28and mechanics that they ask them to execute.
05:30He's aware of and good at, and it's a strength.
05:33But to your point, the offense has all,
05:36this offense has always been very tight end friendly.
05:38I would argue that the, you know, one reason
05:42and one way that the sack and pressures
05:45on C.J. Stroud improved last year
05:47is because guys like Dalton Schultz
05:49became more of a priority.
05:50I would imagine that that's going to be
05:52even more of a priority in 2026,
05:55and that is if C.J. Stroud kind of,
05:57if he really leans in to this offense.
06:00So the great fit for Dalton Schultz in this offense
06:03has to have him absolutely through the roof excited.
06:07Um, he doesn't have a lick of competition.
06:09No.
06:10I mean, there is nobody on this team
06:12that's going to take snaps from Dalton Schultz.
06:14No.
06:14Right?
06:15If Brevin Jordan can stay healthy,
06:16there'll be a Brevin Jordan package.
06:18You look at Foster Moreau,
06:19the guy they just brought in,
06:20along with Cade Stover,
06:21they're going to be in-line tight ends
06:23that are going to be reserve guys,
06:25or they're going to be second or third options.
06:28They're never going to take reps or targets away
06:31from a guy like Dalton Schultz.
06:33So he's clearly the lead dog in that tight end room.
06:36Again, I would like for that to change.
06:38I would like for them to use a first-round pick
06:40on a tight end.
06:41I would like for them to bring a tight end in here
06:42that's not injury-prone,
06:43that brings a little something else to the table.
06:46David Njoku's one of them that I'd like,
06:47but I mean, that's...
06:48He's still out there.
06:49He's still out there.
06:50Sadiq, you talked about him?
06:51Yeah.
06:51Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:52And another thing, he spoke about it there.
06:55Dalton Schultz sounds like a no-nonsense guy, Ron.
06:59You know, on this team, one thing you ain't got to deal with
07:01is a bunch of silly stuff.
07:04You know, I just...
07:06This organization, we talked about it,
07:08I talked a little earlier about how healthy it is.
07:10You know, there's a lot of organizations out there
07:12you got to deal with.
07:14You may be driving to the game on a Sunday afternoon
07:17and Tyreek Hill's yanked over and handcuffed by a cop
07:19because he wouldn't...
07:20Whatever they were asking him for, he wouldn't do it.
07:22Right, you're liable to wake up on a Sunday morning
07:26and guys not be showing up, guys be jackassing around.
07:30You know, we've all been there.
07:32We've all seen that.
07:33This organization seems to be full of professionals
07:35and I just feel like Dalton Schultz is a guy that,
07:38outside of gaming, being probably a little bit too committed
07:40to the gaming community of mine for my liking,
07:43outside of that, he seems to be pretty straightforward, oh boy.
07:46Yeah, no, and I enjoyed what we got from him in the Super Bowl.
07:51I enjoyed just...
07:54Like, it stuck with him and he is...
07:57I just felt like there's going to be a lot of motivation
08:00coming from him and I wonder how many of the guys
08:02out there feel that way.
08:03I feel like a Will Anderson probably feels that way.
08:05I feel like CJ probably feels that way.
08:07We've heard CJ.
08:08I feel like Nico's probably driving himself nuts
08:11because he wasn't available and didn't play.
08:13I feel like there's a lot of guys that have a lot of feelings
08:16very similar to Dalton Schultz
08:20and if they were put into the Super Bowl spot,
08:22they would have been in a tough spot as well.
08:25Yeah, that would have...
08:26That interview, if you hadn't heard it on...
08:29Tyler, do we have that interview up somewhere?
08:30I'm sure we do, on the website somewhere.
08:33The old Dalton Schultz from the Super Bowl.
08:35Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:36Yeah, I mean, if you're a Texans fan and you ain't,
08:38that's exactly what you want.
08:40That's exactly what you want your players in general,
08:43but one of the veterans on your team,
08:45that's exactly how you want them to feel.
08:47And the coolest part about that interview for me, Ron,
08:50was that it seemed to be he was over there
08:52kee-keeing with them Dallas boys, right?
08:55There was clearly a history there with him and the Cowboys,
08:58yada, yada, yada.
08:59But when he got over there with us, man,
09:00it seemed like a Houston-centric conversation.
09:05And, boy, he went...
09:06His old dauber was down in an absolute hurry.
09:09So, yeah, it was good.
09:11If you hadn't heard that, go to our website,
09:13sportsradio610.com,
09:14and see if you can't grab that.
09:15That was a good time.
