00:00There have been a lot of explanations that now feel like excuses for this defense.
00:07Oh, hey, man, Tyler, you're doing this against Josh Allen, Joe Burrow.
00:14Most of y'all have, the entire time I've been here,
00:17told me how bad Dak Prescott sucks.
00:20But now you've added Dak, but you're in Dak.
00:24I mean, hey, it happened.
00:28Colts are a rival.
00:30That field is like Oddly's son.
00:34Lucas Oil, these are all things I've read.
00:37Hey, man, that field, man, that field was tough in London, man.
00:42I mean, nobody get up.
00:44That field was a struggle.
00:45I mean, look at those wide receivers they got.
00:49Well, then, as you said, that goes out the window.
00:52All right, we've gotten further and further away from you not playing in the preseason,
00:56and now J.J. McCarthy has done it to you.
00:59And I mean done you in.
01:01And not just done you in.
01:02I mean, somehow Matt Nagy, who got fired in Kansas City because he wasn't doing a good enough job as
01:08the OC
01:09and got fired in Chicago because he seemed to not be creative.
01:12He just got jokers running around the place wide open all over the place.
01:16Tight ends I've never heard of running around the place.
01:21So, we've reached this point here where J.J. McCarthy does you in.
01:27The Giants run game, which was supposed to be your strength, they do you in in the second half.
01:33And not just do you in the second half, Clint, you got punked, and they checked your card, and you
01:39didn't want none of it.
01:40But nobody wanted to tackle Cam Scadaboo.
01:44I ain't seen zero.
01:45I ain't seen three.
01:4829 was done after he was able to successfully get a 15-yard penalty for getting his ass run over.
01:55But this feels like, Clint, they've reached rock bottom.
01:58There's no, oh, we'll have D'Amico take over play calling now.
02:02No, that's done.
02:03He's already tried that.
02:04All right, Reed Blankenship.
02:06He was hurt, folks.
02:07He didn't play in the game, so that's thrown out the window.
02:13Now, Clint, this is rock bottom, and this is, they're out of excuses.
02:17They're out of anything with this defense the way it's playing.
02:22Yeah, it's definitely rock bottom.
02:24I mean, I just don't, you know, to me, it's the only thing left is you've got to put your
02:34foot on throats.
02:35What do you mean by that?
02:37I mean, you've just got to hold guys accountable.
02:39You've got guys.
02:40Now, I think big picture overall the problem is D'Amico.
02:45Now, this is maybe a holding guys accountable, foot on throat type deal.
02:48But he just said it.
02:50It's the first time I've heard a coach say it.
02:51He said it, I'm sorry, yesterday.
02:54You know, in one of his cuts, he talks about, you know, playing downhill.
02:57We've got guys waiting.
02:58We've got guys, he called it, sitting in a chair.
03:01We've got guys sitting in a chair waiting for the running back to attack them instead of playing aggressive downhill
03:05and swarming.
03:05Well, hell, aggressive downhill and swarming is your identity.
03:08How you got so many guys doing that?
03:10So, now.
03:11That ain't never done that before.
03:12It may be D'Amico Ryan's made a major mistake and let his foot off the gas with this defense
03:18and let them smell themselves this offseason and this preseason.
03:22And that's why we are where we are.
03:24But the reality of it is, I'm going to tell you right now, man, if Reed Blankenship would have tried
03:28to tackle the way that Derrick Stingley Jr. tried to tackle, his ass would be cut today.
03:32If Reed Blankenship would have collision Derrick Stingley Jr. twice, not once, but twice in man-to-man situations, one
03:40of them was for a big play early.
03:41The other one should have been a big play late that would have put a nail in the coffin of
03:44the Texans, by the way.
03:46His ass would have been cut up out of here.
03:48We wouldn't have been hearing the end of that.
03:49No, it would be all over that text line.
03:52So, I mean, if Reed Blankenship would have got ran through the way that old buddy MJ Stewart got ran
03:58through, even though it drew a penalty, we would never hear the end of it, right?
04:02And the reality of it is, I know they're pros, but when you've got a bunch of dudes that are
04:07quote-unquote sitting in chairs when your identity is to be downhill, you've got major problems.
04:13And I just, I don't know how, other than, because in 2026 you can't, you can't go back and start
04:20practicing super physical in a bye week in week eight, even though I think they should.
04:25I'd run them out there in full pads defensively.
04:27We'd be full pads a couple days this, we absolutely would be.
04:31But to your point, I don't think by rule you can.
04:35You can't do that kind of thing.
04:36So what do you do?
04:37The only thing you can do is hold them accountable and yank them off the field when they embarrass you
04:42from a tackling standpoint.
04:46I'm going to tell you what part is.
04:48I mean, that's where we're at, though.
04:49I mean, I know it's extreme, but that's where we're at.
04:52I mean, anything's up for, you've got to try anything at this point.
04:55But your best players are, I mean, the ones that are doing it.
05:00I mean, I'm going to tell you, man, that Will Anderson on that long schedule in overtime, that long run.
05:06By the way, nobody's saying anything.
05:08Where was he at Sunday?
05:09Who, Will?
05:10Yeah.
05:10Oh, I don't know where he was.
05:11It felt very much like the Buffalo game.
05:13The tackle that was blocking him, there's a quote out there today, an audio video out there of him today
05:18saying he feels like he's the best tackle in the game because 51 was kept out of the box score.
05:23Was that what Andrew said?
05:24No, it wasn't Andrews.
05:25It was the other one.
05:25It was the other one?
05:26It was Illuminor.
05:27Oh, God.
05:27Or Aggie.
05:30I was going to say that, listen, Will has been one of the best players on this team.
05:34But this is the second game where he hadn't impacted the game.
05:38Well, he impacted it the wrong direction.
05:40I mean, he completely vacated that whole right side when old buddy, when Scadaboo went for that long run and
05:49pulled his hammy or whatever he did.
05:50Got his, caught a cramp, whatever the hell he did.
05:52I mean, that was unacceptable.
05:54You're best guys.
05:55Your bet, when Scadaboo's touchdown run, I don't know if it was a touchdown or one of his long runs
05:59early on when all the missed tackles happened.
06:00It was definitely a touchdown.
06:02Stingley.
06:03And you mentioned that Zizal Shear had him first, but that was just a missed tackle.
06:06Stingley turned his back on the thing.
06:08I mean, it was a poor effort.
06:09Henry lost.
06:10I mean, you can't have your best dudes out there doing that kind of stuff.
06:15It's hard to pick the one guy that is living up to the identity that is Swarm right now.
06:20Yeah, no, and this is the part to me, and you can send your thoughts in, 7-1-3-5
06:26-7-2-4-6-10, about this defense.
06:29And I see people here on the text line and YouTube and Twitch jumping in on this.
06:33See, Tyler, this is the part that's concerning to me that is beyond the bye week and the rest of
06:40the season is the most concerning thing is we've just gone through all these excuses and everything that's happened.
06:46And, like, as you said, man, you loved it when D'Amico said he's taking over because, all right, this
06:52is the best defensive mind you got on the team.
06:56He got his job because he was going to be – he was a great defensive coordinator.
07:00And, as you said, one thing we shouldn't have to worry about is this defense ever having any problems.
07:05You said that when he was hired.
07:06You said that throughout the time that he's been here.
07:12Tyler, it doesn't seem like – it doesn't seem like he has answers to fix this.
07:19Scariest part of it all.
07:21You are dead right.
07:22That is the scariest part.
07:24Right, that this is D'Amico Ryan's.
07:28And it's not just like he don't have answers.
07:31Like, there's a couple times you look over there like – you look at Nick Kaley.
07:35Hey, man, he's out there playing with CJ and the Pips.
07:40He's out there with Jarrett Wayne.
07:42He's out there with Xavier Hutchinson.
07:44It's got to be his lead guy.
07:46Like, he's got a young offensive line.
07:48You've got – we've seen injuries.
07:50We've seen guys.
07:52He can't figure this out with Will Anderson, who is playing at an MVP level.
07:58He can't figure this out with Daniil Hunter.
08:01He can't figure it out with Stingley.
08:03He can't figure it out with the Zs.
08:05He can't figure it out with Henry Toa Toa, who is back.
08:08He can't figure it out with Bullock.
08:10He can't figure it out with Kamari Lasseter.
08:13All of those guys that I named short of Henry Toa Toa that have been pro bowlers are all pros.
08:21I don't really have a good answer.
08:23They're getting their ass ran through with those dudes.
08:29It'd be one thing, Clint, if half them dudes was hurt.
08:33You're like, all right.
08:34You're trying to figure – no, they're on the field.
08:37Stingley, Will, Hunter, Lasseter, Bullock.
08:41They haven't missed a game.
08:45And he can't figure this out.
08:50Belichick would have figured this out.
08:51I know that's unfair.
08:54Steve Spagnuolo would have figured this out.
08:56Something.
08:56Something out to stop some of this stuff.
08:58And I say those names because D'Amico Ryans is somebody that is thought to be in the defensive side
09:07of the ball, elite, at the top.
09:11He can't figure it out with those dudes.
09:14Yeah.
09:15Clint, since he's took over, they're still giving up explosive plays at a high rate.
09:21Clint, the run game, the run defense has gotten worse.
09:25And, like, we poof and we're like, all right, now he's taking a play call in.
09:28Like, we ain't foos.
09:29We know your ass has been involved in this defense from the top.
09:33Now, that's the scary part, Clint, is he hasn't – they've got a bye week now, and the hope is
09:41through the bye week that maybe they come back and he has some answers.
09:47But this deal of our scheme is fine.
09:50At some point, you've got to say, all right, either – like, we've got to stop.
09:54We know they know the scheme.
09:55They've played it the last two years.
09:56It's got to be something that somebody is doing to us that is forcing us to play differently.
10:05He knows more football, more defensive football than I'll ever know in my life.
10:10But I know, damn it, hey, bro, something's got to shift.
10:13How are you not figuring this out when you've got all these players?
10:18And if he can't figure this out right now with those dudes, you're not always going to have them players.
10:25Yep.
10:25So, that's the scariest part to me, Clint, is that one of the best defensive minds we believe that the
10:32Texans have can't figure this out against J.J. McCarthy.
10:36Well, that's the – that's the mind-boggling – forget whether he figures it out or not, but, like, the
10:44reluctance to change.
10:49The – like, I mean, I'm at a point where I've said take the air out of the defense a
10:54million times.
10:55I mean, the safety should be noticeably closer to the line of scrimmage.
11:00I mean, we should see, like – like, I mean, an unsafe amount of press man coverage with the corners
11:06to figure – you know, to see if you can get your guys home in critical situations.
11:11Yeah.
11:12But there's still opportunities throughout games for these just easy completions for J.J. McCarthy to throw for a high
11:20percentage.
11:23I mean, you know what I mean?
11:24It's just like you look at some of the – some of the – the opportunities that these guys are
11:32giving.
11:32I mean, the opportunity to throw the corner ball over the top at the end of the first half to
11:36get in field goal range.
11:37I mean, that – that was a – that was obvious.
11:40The way you were lined up and the – and the – the way you played defense, it was obvious
11:45where the quarterback was throwing the ball.
11:47That was easy.
11:48I mean, it was a difficult throw, but it was easy read-wise.
11:51Like, they're making it really easy on quarterbacks to play at a pretty high clip, and that's – that's alarming.
11:58Because the – make it hard and allow your front to get home was their M.O.
12:05And, and boy, they have just done a 180 on that.
12:08Yeah.
12:09Text line says, what is – Kamari can't – Kamari Lasseter can't figure out for Kamari.
12:16But then you got to – but again, like, if – but again, if Kamari is struggling with something,
12:21we can't just keep seven straight weeks just running him out there and just letting him continue to struggle.
12:26You got to figure something else out.
12:28Kwame Lasseter.
12:29Yeah.
12:29I just – look, he's – I'll be honest with you, like Lasseter –
12:34I'll just use – that's one example.
12:35With the problem that I've – that I've mentioned multiple times this year with this defense,
12:42it's going to impact Kamari Lasseter more than anybody because he's not as good a cover guy as Derek Stingley
12:48Jr.
12:48And right now, you got him in the middle of the field, so at the nickel defender position.
12:54So now receivers have a two-way go on him instead of him being able to use the sideline, you
13:00know,
13:00as an outside corner.
13:02So now you've got a guy that's not a Derek Stingley – that's not an elite cover guy,
13:07and he's playing a position where receivers have two-way goes,
13:13and they're eating him up right now.
13:15And he's playing on his heels.
13:17He just – like, innately, he is not a player that plays well on his heels.
13:21He's a downhill aggressive player, and he's not being put in position to do those things.
13:26I can't – I just – I simply can't believe that we're not seeing an overcorrection of overaggression.
13:35Yeah.
13:36Like, I'm talking – I'm talking Brian Flores, Miami Dolphins all out.
13:40They're doing something to force them to play at that level.
13:42Something.
13:43Something different than to let Kamari Lasseter get neighbors on him in the slot
13:48and just run right by him on a slot fade.
13:50Like, that kind of thing – and let the quarterback have all day to do it, to get it there.
13:56That's not the identity of this defense.
13:59Text line coming in.
14:00D'Amico is stubborn.
14:01He needs to start putting more pressure on the offense by blitzing more.
14:04He did blitz him more in the second half of the game against the Giants.
14:08Other teams are scheming our elite talent are relevant.
14:13And listen, I think there's some truth to some of the things he said when he said –
14:17or Nick said that some of our great players aren't playing to the level that they can play at.
14:23I think there's some of that there.
14:25But I think you can't just – it's hard for me as a coach seven weeks in to think,
14:31all right, that's just what it is only.
14:34Well, then what can I do to make – how can I get the best out of Derek Stangley?
14:40How can I get the best out of Aziz?
14:42How can I get the best out of Daniil Hunter?
14:45How can I get the best out of these guys?
14:46When I know what they are, these aren't a bunch of Travis Kelce's walking around here.
14:53They're 35 and 36 years old, and they're out of their prime.
14:56All of these jokers are in their prime.
14:59Aziz – Daniil is what, the only one?
15:02We hadn't seen him have a drop-off like this.
15:05They didn't just fall off the absolute map.
