Two teenagers riding an e-bike have died in a collision with a motorcycle south of Brisbane overnight. Their deaths follow the release of a report last week recommending strict new restrictions on the use of e-bikes in Queensland.

00:01Police say just after 9pm a Harley-Davidson motorcycle travelling along Middle Road here
00:07in Greenbank moved to overtake a vehicle when it crashed into an e-bike coming in the opposite
00:13direction. Now the two passengers on that e-bike, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old
00:18girl, both died at the scene. The rider of the Harley-Davidson was taken to the Princess
00:23Alexandra Hospital here in Brisbane where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
00:28Now the investigations into this incident are obviously in their early stages, however
00:33early indications are that the e-bike did not have headlights on at the time of the crash.
00:40This incident comes just a week after the release of a Queensland Parliamentary Inquiry into both
00:46e-scooters and e-bikes. It made a number of significant safety recommendations following
00:52a number of deaths and thousands of injuries here in Queensland last year. Now they included
00:58that only those aged 16 and over who carry at least a C-Class Learner's Permit be able
01:03to ride e-mobility devices and also that all devices that can achieve a speed of 25 kilometres
01:09per hour and over be reclassified as motorcycles. Now the Government says it is currently considering
01:17all those recommendations.
