00:00An 18-year-old was killed in a collision involving eight motorcycles on the Butterworth
00:10to Kulim expressway in the early hours of Sunday.
00:14Central Seberang Parai OCPD, Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris, said police were alerted by members
00:20of the public to the incident, which occurred at approximately 3.30 a.m. at kilometre 8.2
00:27of the expressway, heading towards Kulim.
00:30Preliminary investigations found that all eight motorcycles were travelling from Seberang
00:35Jaya to Kulim when one of the bikes brushed against another, causing it to lose control
00:40and veer.
00:41The incident triggered a chain collision involving the other motorcycles.
00:45The teenager was thrown from his motorcycle and struck the metal divider separating the
00:50vehicle and motorcycle lanes.
00:52He suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
00:56His body has been sent to Hospital Seberang Jaya for a post-mortem.
01:01Seven other riders, aged between 18 and 22, sustained injuries to their arms and legs and
01:07were taken to Hospital Seberang Jaya for treatment.
01:10The case is being investigated under Section 41, subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act,
01:171987, for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
