00:00After further review, and somebody made a very fair point on the fan text, so I will adjust.
00:09Intricacies and important plays you might have missed from the Cowboys, not particularly surprising at all, collapse against the Cardinals.
00:19That's fair. Shocking at this point with this team and this franchise is that's probably a silly thing to say.
00:26But I do not know how you can watch the end of the game, though, and not be stunned and
00:32shocked.
00:32I really was, yes.
00:34I think that, yes, in the grand scheme of things, the Cowboys aren't surprising us in how they do things.
00:44Right.
00:44But even still, I was watching that thing going, how?
00:51Life's tough, man.
00:52No.
00:52No, man.
00:54I've never wanted to punch Alec before, but when he played that, it made me want to punch him.
00:59Let's say, maybe today, probably not, but if they lose to the Colts, would you want to do a call
01:05-in segment where we don't actually hear real words from the callers?
01:11They just give us the noise approximation that they make because of this loss.
01:15Because I really like your, ugh.
01:17I don't know if we want to do that.
01:20Probably not.
01:20Because I think the Tolos will take that as opportunities to do noises that we probably would have to dump.
01:26Oh, yes.
01:27We'd be like, you can't do that on radios, ma'am.
01:31That is, oh, man.
01:34Equal opportunity.
01:36Because we, hey, we're the station of persons.
01:38That is very true.
01:39And as everybody knows, we began the spearheading the operation of being, by being the show of persons.
01:46You know what?
01:47I think you began that.
01:48You're right.
01:48I did.
01:49You told me how important persons were.
01:51I did.
01:51And look what happened.
01:53Yeah.
01:53As I was telling people about how the city of Mansfield is very inclusive.
01:59Person heavy.
02:00With Broad Street.
02:01Okay.
02:03You ruined it.
02:03It represents persons.
02:04All right.
02:06Are you okay if I go first?
02:07Go ahead.
02:08I want to go back to the very first drive.
02:10Oh, that was mine.
02:11Was it really?
02:12No.
02:12Okay.
02:13You got this, dude.
02:14God, you're such a jackass.
02:18All right.
02:18I want to go back to the very first drive.
02:20The reason being, and I realize that the Cowboys lost, but the reason being, when Jerry says progress,
02:25I think we only isolate certain parts of the game.
02:28And this was one of the parts of the game that I was like, yeah, and it kept building over
02:32the better part of three quarters.
02:34And I was like, sure, I see progress.
02:36And people might be like, well, Arizona is not very good.
02:39Have you seen this defense?
02:41That's fine.
02:42You could play against a college team.
02:45And I would be like, hey, good job.
02:47So the very first, the very first drive, you get pressure by Kenny Clark on the first play from scrimmage.
02:54And Brissett has to throw the ball away.
02:56Did he throw the ball away too soon?
02:58Maybe.
02:58Irrelevant.
02:59So right away, boom.
03:01Second and 10.
03:03Second place.
03:04Somebody that we have talked about.
03:05It's been tough to find positives on this team.
03:08But one of the positives I think we have is Shamar James.
03:11And Shamar James, it looks like Jeremiah Love is about to get past him.
03:18Or if you love wrestling, it looks like Shamar James did a switch on him and then suplexed him back
03:26right when it looked like he was going to get past him.
03:28So now you have a third and eight.
03:30Dude, I do want to point.
03:32Can I stop there real quick?
03:33Like, there's, and I know it's, tackling's difficult.
03:37It's a, it's, there's a reason that there's so many missed tackles this year.
03:41For not just the Cowboys, but for lots of teams.
03:43And there's so many times, though, where you see a dude tackling a guy and you're like, don't suplex him
03:49into the end zone.
03:50Or don't, don't throw him four yards further down the field.
03:54Shamar James is going to come into play again for that very same reason.
03:57And that play in particular, he did, he did make a stop and, and turned him around on that one.
04:02And I liked that play.
04:03And so what do you set up?
04:06You set up a third and eight.
04:08And because of how much this defensive struggle, I put in my notes, feels big.
04:13Then Quinnen and his offsides.
04:15And you're like, son of a biscuit.
04:18And it's third and three.
04:20But then, you get pressure, yet again.
04:24But this time, you've started to see, if you want to look at a sign of progress, I really do
04:29think, I know they lost, and this team sucks right now.
04:32But I really did think that this was a sign of progress, is you've seen more pressure plays turn into
04:39more positive results.
04:40As opposed to, hey, you got pressure.
04:44Good job.
04:45Good job.
04:45It still ended up with, like, a gain for 12 and a first down or whatever the case might be.
04:52But you got pressure on this play.
04:56And then it's a tough throw.
04:59Wilson can't haul it in.
05:00It would have been a really tough catch because of the pressure forced an early throw.
05:04And you get a punt.
05:05And I was like, man, that feels huge for this game.
05:08Because Arizona had scored three touchdowns on the opening drive.
05:12But more importantly, in seven games, the Cowboys defense had given up five game opening touchdowns.
05:20Or, like, first defensive drive touchdowns.
05:23And so the fact that not only did you not give up a touchdown, you didn't give up any points,
05:27and you forced a punt, I thought, really set the tone for the day.
05:30And, again, for most of three quarters, that was the case.
05:36Yeah.
05:36No, that's a significant moment right there to start.
05:39I really thought that was going to set the tone for what was going to be a lovely victory.
05:45But, you know.
05:45Well, I mean, Kevin, that's part of having to play four quarters.
05:49That's right.
05:49Or they didn't play the minute and 35 of the third quarter also.
05:56Four quarters, four quarters plus, which the Cowboys are terrible at.
05:59Yeah.
05:59And Schottenheimer has mentioned this a couple times now.
06:03We got to, you know, he said it.
06:05It feels like he's mentioned it ten times.
06:06We got to learn how to finish opponents.
06:08Right.
06:10But, Kevin, you brought that up early in the season, that that fourth quarter comeback seems to be a struggle
06:15for this team.
06:16It really is.
06:16By the way, I'm pretty sure that was Elijah Garcia.
06:20Okay.
06:21On the pressure right there.
06:23Yes, it was.
06:23And that's another one that we've talked about as, like, being in a positive category at a time when it's
06:29tough to find positives.
06:30Yeah.
06:30Um, I'm going to skip ahead to the fourth quarter then.
06:34Is that okay?
06:35Yes, please.
06:36And in this, there's another conversation.
06:40Uh, fourth quarter, 920 left on the clock.
06:44Now, this drive itself does end up being a field goal.
06:49Okay?
06:50Okay.
06:50I just want to, like, it did end up getting points.
06:52And the drive did end up going longer.
06:54But there's a, on this particular play, um, Dak Prescott drops back, does what he does, looks over and sees
07:03George Pickens bracketed.
07:04He's got a cornerback underneath him.
07:06He's got a safety over the top and says, well, I can't throw to that guy.
07:09Oh, and I ever throw to that guy.
07:11He can't beat a double team.
07:12Right.
07:13It's obvious that there's a single, uh, man, uh, there's man on man against CeeDee Lamb on the other side
07:18of the field, which there is.
07:20Okay.
07:22CeeDee Lamb makes his break to turn towards the sideline.
07:25Dak Prescott is already standing there looking and the cornerback on CeeDee Lamb falls on the ground.
07:32And for whatever reason, Dak feels pressure that is not there yet behind him.
07:38And I'm going to give Dak a lot of credit.
07:41There's, there are times that he makes movements, subtle movements in the pocket that I'm just like, man, that was
07:46a really good step up.
07:47That's a really good step there.
07:48On this particular occasion was poor.
07:51This is a touchdown.
07:52If he throws the ball to CeeDee Lamb, that cornerback is laying on the ground as CeeDee Lamb gets the
07:59ball.
07:59And he, or he's getting up as CeeDee Lamb gets the ball and CeeDee Lamb's already turning upfield and there's
08:04nobody else there in the way.
08:06And again, I want to go back to this from here on.
08:09Um, this is, oh man, how did I lose that?
08:15All right.
08:15So on that particular play, the Dak scrambles for four yards.
08:20Now, on the third down following that, third and six, LJ Collier gets unnecessary roughness.
08:27Oh yeah, what a dumb penalty.
08:29Which keeps the drive going.
08:30All right.
08:30Three yard run, six yard run, two yard run, four yard run, one yard run, seven yard run, minus two
08:39yard run, one yard pass.
08:40In completion, kick the field goal.
08:43I appreciate that they stuck to the run there.
08:46Yeah.
08:47I still feel like you had the, this is the moment, Kevin, in the game.
08:51I know you say that he waits till the last four minutes.
08:54That play specifically would have, in my opinion, nailed the coffin close.
08:59Because it would have been 31-17 at that point.
09:02They scored two more touchdowns after that on you and ultimately to tie up the game.
09:09Right, right.
09:09And if you're at 31, that game's over and you can move on with your life.
09:16Yeah, I think I'm with you on that.
09:18Is it, okay, so is it that drive, do you think, and then the drive immediately after you get the
09:26onside kick where the conservative tag comes in there?
09:30Or maybe it's overtime, too.
09:31The four plays for the field goal.
09:33So, I mean, you get a zero yard run, you're sacked, and then the three yard run.
09:40The three yard run's the thing that's driving you nuts, right?
09:43Yeah, because it's, because like it's third and 16.
09:46I realize there's not a great shot that you're going to get it.
09:51But even if you were sacked again, it's still going to be a very reasonable field goal.
09:57And I just...
09:59That was a 41-yard field goal.
10:00Now, I will say that Brandon Aubrey from 54, 52 yards out lately has not been great.
10:07It's somewhere in that window.
10:0952 plus, Brandon Aubrey has suddenly fallen apart.
10:13Really?
10:14Over like the last 20 field goals he kicked.
10:18Is it 52 or 54?
10:19One of those two numbers.
10:20So you don't want to be too far out.
10:22I don't think you're going to take a 15-yard sack there, because that was a 41-yard field goal.
10:26But I understand what you want to...
10:31You want to show more aggression.
10:33Yeah, I want to try to win the game right there.
10:35And when you go watch the coach that was coaching the game last night against the defending champions, Ben Johnson,
10:43you watch his aggressiveness, are you not sitting there going,
10:46why can't my coach have that too?
10:48That edge about him, that he believes that these things are going to work.
10:52And again, for last year, Kevin, I said that too many times it was because he didn't trust the defense.
10:57Maybe he still doesn't trust the defense.
10:59But at this point, you're right.
11:01You do need to do some things that are going to help your defense whenever you know that they're reeling.
11:06Can I stick to this one other thing real quick?
11:08Sure.
11:08All right, so this is something that I was noticing as I was watching yesterday, Kevin,
11:13when I woke up way too early because of my Freddy Krueger dream.
11:16Right.
11:18Man, Freddy Krueger would be a totally different thing.
11:21I had a dream that Freddy Krueger was trying to kill me.
11:23And so then when I woke up, I knew I couldn't go back to sleep,
11:26because if you do, Freddy Krueger will actually, in fact, kill you.
11:29So I stayed awake and started watching film early.
11:33I started noticing that a lot of the routes are very – I've been bringing this up to you,
11:39I think, for a couple weeks now.
11:40I'm dropping back.
11:41If George Pickens has a bracket, then I have one-on-one coverage with CeeDee Lamb.
11:46And if that's not there, then I'm probably going to try and go to Jake Ferguson.
11:50And not enough times do I think he goes to Javante,
11:53because I don't think he feels he has the time to get to Javante for his fourth read there.
11:57But then I started noticing something else, and then I saw a post from John Owning
12:01that I was like, that's a great word for it.
12:03It's called siloing.
12:04And siloing, Kevin, is not Rebecca Ferguson making sure that her silo 17 is secure,
12:12or whatever one they're in.
12:13But this is where you say, all right, George Pickens, this is your area.
12:20CeeDee Lamb, this is your area.
12:22Tight ends and Ryan Flannoy, these are your areas.
12:24Guys, we are not going to cross it all.
12:27We're not going to run any schemes that create space for you.
12:31We are going to say, you beat the man in front of you because y'all are top-tier dudes.
12:36Right.
12:36I trust that y'all can go out and beat your guy.
12:39Instead of running mesh, which intentionally creates space for a specific receiver
12:45because the defense against you can't stop it from happening.
12:49And Kevin, over and over and over, we're seeing this from Schottenheimer's play calling.
12:53And John Owning said, it's like we're back in Jason Garrett times all over again.
12:58And that's what I would say is lacking in creativity with dudes.
13:03Can you imagine getting George Pickens lined up on a linebacker?
13:07Right, right.
13:09All right, I got one more for you.
13:11It's the last drive of regulation.
13:15You get great coverage when you need it on the kick return.
13:19That is something Stephen mentioned yesterday and I think is fair.
13:21Your coverage, your kick coverage has been very good.
13:26Wanye Thomas gets a tackle at the 20 with 105 to go.
13:31All right?
13:31So they don't have a ton of time, but they have enough time to move down the field.
13:36And I want to go there.
13:37I mean, you saw a 14-yard pass.
13:40Then you get a 21-yard pass.
13:42It's infuriating.
13:44Porter and Downs are standing there on the sideline.
13:46Now we know more about Downs with a concussion.
13:49And unfortunately, Joey Porter has shown to be, I mean, look, let's face it, like a little bit fragile in
13:54his early time with the Cowboys.
13:57And we haven't been able to have him out on the field as much as you would like.
14:04But it was the dump off to Algier and Shamar James can't keep him in bounds on the tackle.
14:11He is focused specifically on getting the tackle and tackles him out of bounds.
14:17Now with that in mind, it's third and five at the Dallas 40 with 27 seconds and the clock stops.
14:26If you're able to, like Shamar James did, if he was able to do the exact same thing he did
14:30to Jeremiah Love and suplex him back into the field, maybe he would have got a penalty for that.
14:35But if he can make the tackle and pull him back into the field of play, a couple of different
14:40things happen.
14:41First of all, Arizona is going to have to run up there and spike the ball again.
14:44So now it's going to be fourth and five.
14:46And so that's going to add some pressure to it.
14:48But you're also going to probably run off, what do we think, another six, eight seconds.
14:52And so now you're down to 19 to 21 seconds left from the Dallas 40.
14:58Now our defense can do amazing things at giving up points.
15:02But I would feel a lot better there than I did third and five with him having a time to
15:07calm down, think over the play and everything.
15:09Instead, you would have been facing fourth and five at about the Dallas 40 with probably around 19 seconds to
15:17go.
15:17So I thought that tackle, I appreciate that he made it.
15:19But the inability to keep him, Algier, inbounds right there, that was tough from James.
15:26I was talking specifically on that play to my son Carter about that.
15:31He was like, all right, so hold on.
15:32And I was explaining to him why it's important to tackle a guy before getting out.
15:36This dude's a freshman learning how to play football and knowing that, understanding that concept and making sure you're trying
15:42to get to a guy before.
15:43Now I'm sure he's trying.
15:44They're trying.
15:45I don't question that at all.
15:47If you would have, this changes things a lot, and that's what further review is.
15:51Especially over the years.
15:52Does it not feel like, obviously, NFL officials have gotten significantly more liberal with letting the clock go?
15:59Stop it.
16:00Oh, yeah.
16:00No, I'm not joking about politics, Kevin.
16:03With letting the clock go.
16:04It used to be like, if you even touch part of Out of Bounds, they're like, nope, stop the clock.
16:08Now they're just like, eh, let it keep going.
16:11Yeah, they might even think about stopping the clock before.
16:13They're just like, hold on, let's just be sure, let's keep it.
16:16But, I mean, just think about that one dude against Green Bay last year.
16:20He should have just let the clock run out.
16:22Oh, man, yeah, we have no luck with that.
16:24Yeah, old NFL would have been like, nope, the game was over like two minutes ago.
16:28So, because of that, on the next play, you can't get a lick of pressure.
16:32Yeah.
16:33And when they complete that 27-yard pass, and now it's at the Dallas 13, do you have
16:38no doubts that you're going to lose?
16:39Well, I mean, unless you're a stupid idiot who thinks in overtime, you can go win it all.
16:44But by that point, some of that stupid idiot-dom had faded.
16:48Okay, it had already faded.
16:49As evidenced by that sentence construction, Alec.
