A Leadership Habit Behind 8 State Championships | Lessons From Built Wright Co-Author Bryant Wright

What does it take to build a championship culture that lasts?

In this clip from The Mason Duchatschek Show, Bryant Wright shares a leadership practice that helped his team achieve 8 consecutive state championships.

Instead of focusing only on performance, Bryant focused on building leaders first. Each year he gave his team leaders a leadership book and required them to read it. Once they finished, their names were written in the book, creating a leadership legacy that every new group of leaders inherited.

Combined with intentional mentoring before and after practice, this simple system helped create a powerful culture of leadership and accountability.

Bryant Wright is also the co author of the new book Built Wright: What It Takes to Build Something That Lasts, where he shares lessons about leadership, culture, and building organizations that endure.

This conversation is packed with insights for business owners, CEOs, executives, HR leaders, sales managers, and team leaders who want to build stronger leadership pipelines and high performance teams.

If you want better culture, stronger leadership, and teams that perform at a championship level, this clip will challenge the way you think about leadership development.

00:00I decided to want to develop not only great runners and great people, but great leaders.
00:06I got this leadership book and all the leaders that were part of the leadership group, I said, you need
00:12to read this book.
00:13So I gave them that book and they read it.
00:15And then at the end of the season, after they had read it, I'd let them put their name in
00:21it.
00:21I'd put the date, what year they were.
00:24And then the next year, that next group of leaders would open it up.
00:29And they're like, oh, this kid read it, this kid read it, this kid read it.
00:31And like for six years, we've been state champs.
00:34So that was one thing I did.
00:35But then I also spent time, a little bit of extra time before practice or maybe a little bit after
00:42practice.
00:42And these are the things I want you to be doing.
00:46These are things that leaders do.
