00:00They wrote him off, but he ain't right back, though.
00:03Now they got to write him a check.
00:04Again, Geno Smith was just traded to the Jets from the Raiders
00:08in a late-round pick swap involving 6th and 7th-round picks.
00:12Frankie Vitterini from Gangs All Here podcast in U-Stadium
00:15is on to talk all things Geno.
00:18Let's go.
00:19Hey, second time's a charm here, Frankie.
00:22Let's get straight into this, man.
00:24Let's get straight into this.
00:25Thumbs up or thumbs down on the trade
00:28in terms of what they gave up
00:30and thumbs up and thumbs down on Geno
00:33as your potential starter again.
00:37Well, I have two thumbs in this, right?
00:39Yep.
00:42Thumbs down.
00:43Two thumbs down on it.
00:44Why, my man?
00:47Start with the trade.
00:49They gave up a 6 and a 7.
00:51That's not much.
00:52Yeah, the trade's okay.
00:52So let's start with that one.
00:53Let's start that one.
00:54The trade's fine.
00:55Well, they flipped, so we gave them a 6.
00:57They gave us their 7.
00:59Which is fine.
01:02That's fine with me.
01:05Although, I'd rather not do that for Geno Smith,
01:07but we're really not paying him anything,
01:09so more than what his contract is.
01:11We're not, like, extending him.
01:13The issue here with Geno Smith is,
01:16guys, this is like putting lipstick on a pig.
01:18I mean, this is what it is.
01:21It's the Jets trying to sell us something,
01:24trying to convince us that, oh, Geno Smith in, you know, 2024 had over 4,000 yards,
01:30and he's going to be able to give us, you know,
01:35play at the quarterback position with Frank Reich that we haven't seen in years.
01:39He's better than Justin Fields.
01:41That's all true and fine.
01:43That's not what this team needs.
01:45Again, I stated yesterday, and I was fine with how free agency went day one,
01:50and I'm good with what Muji's been doing this offseason.
01:53The Jets needed to find a quarterback that was a little bit of an unknown,
01:57somebody that could maybe flash a bit.
02:00Take a shot.
02:01Roll the dice.
02:01This is so conservative to me.
02:04It's just a conservative move.
02:06A lot of Jeff fans aren't happy with this move.
02:08Do I think Geno Smith's a bad quarterback?
02:10No.
02:11Do I think he makes sense here?
02:13No, I don't.
02:15That's the problem.
02:17Take a swing.
02:18That's why I was all into, like, a Tyson Bajan,
02:21or even if you wanted to, like, bring in Marcus Mariota,
02:23or somebody that maybe has something in the tank there that could flash
02:31and offer some excitement or some real difference at the quarterback position,
02:36you know what you're going to get with Geno Smith.
02:38But I'll say this.
02:39If you want the first overall pick like the Raiders have,
02:41maybe Geno Smith's the right guy for the job there because he just did it,
02:45you know, last season.
02:49Oh, man.
02:50All right.
02:50So, now that Geno is back in Florm Park,
02:54do you still feel like the Jets take a quarterback within the first two rounds
02:59of this year's draft?
03:02That's a great question, man.
03:04That is the million-dollar question.
03:06Are they going to take one at two?
03:07No.
03:08Are they going to take one at 16?
03:10I don't think so.
03:11But if our boy, Ty Simpson, and I won the bet this time
03:16because I brought him up first.
03:18Ty Simpson's there, Brandon, at 33 or 44.
03:22I don't think the Jets are going to pass up on Ty Simpson if he's there at 33 or 44.
03:27Now, I don't think he'll be there at 33 or 44.
03:30I don't.
03:31I think he'll be a first-round pick.
03:34But I think the Jets are looking at quarterback at some point, obviously.
03:38I think, you know, you can't put all your eggs in the 2027 quarterback class basket.
03:45I don't think that's the smartest thing in the world to do.
03:49You know how things can change on a year-to-year basis.
03:51Now, if that class looks as stacked as you're going to get, I mean,
03:54I could roll off 12, 14 guys next year that I think I'd rather draft
04:01than maybe Ty Simpson this year, honestly, just in terms of upside and here
04:06and prototype and what I'm looking for for the Jets.
04:10But I don't know to answer that question, Brandon.
04:15I think they'll look at it.
04:16If Ty Simpson's there in the second round, they will draft Ty Simpson.
04:20But are the Jets going to do it at 16?
04:22I don't think so.
04:23But it's not the craziest thing in the world.
04:27We saw how Brees Hall responded with his tweet when the Jets signed all those
04:34defensive guys on the first day of legal tampering.
04:38Now, if you're Garrett Wilson, what are you tweeting out now that they've traded
04:44for Geno Smith?
04:46Well, listen, man, to be completely fair to Geno Smith,
04:51honestly, based on the quarterbacks that we've had here in the last five to ten years
04:57outside of Aaron Rodgers, I mean, Geno's right up there in terms of value
05:04or in terms of a quarterback that can get the ball out and throw for over 3,000 yards.
05:09I mean, he's done it the last four years in a row.
05:12And as I said, in 24, he threw for over 4,300 yards at a 70% completion percentage
05:19in Seattle.
05:19I mean, that was a big year.
05:21So, listen, Garrett Wilson wanted Justin Fields, apparently.
05:26This guy's going to be a lot better at getting you the football than Justin Fields.
05:29So, I don't think this is going to really hurt Garrett Wilson's value.
05:33It probably might even help his value a bit.
05:36I just wanted somebody that, as a leader and as somebody that I think the team needs
05:41and makes it somewhat of a pleasure to watch the team on Sunday.
05:46We're kind of, like, rolling back a mistake that we already had made.
05:50And, Brandon, the funny thing with Geno Smith is I loved him coming out of West Virginia.
05:55I was a big fan.
05:57I thought he should have been the first overall pick, potentially, in that draft.
06:01I was ecstatic when we drafted him.
06:03It feels stale.
06:05It does.
06:06It's like a stale move.
06:07But from Garrett's perspective, he'll be just fine.
06:09What do you think of the move, by the way?
06:11I mean, I like it.
06:12I mean, in terms of what's there, you were – I mean, we talked to Costello yesterday
06:15during the live show when we had it.
06:17He was like, there's no way a Kyler Murray is going to come here because, you know,
06:21this is that place where if you're a quarterback trying to jumpstart your career,
06:25you're not going to go to the Jets.
06:27Geno's already jumpstarted his career somewhere else.
06:31I think for him, he just needed a landing spot.
06:34This is a place where he's familiar with, and I believe that where he would have
06:37the most value at.
06:39Anywhere else, he's not going to be a starter.
06:42He'd just be a guy that, you know, you bring in.
06:46But he's like the Russell Wilson of last year.
06:48Russ, I'm going to bring you in, but we're going to draft the Jackson Dart
06:52to take your job immediately or as soon as we feel as though this kid is ready.
06:56So I think Geno could hold off whichever quarterback that they bring in if they –
07:02you know, if they draft a young guy.
07:03You could hold them off by playing well, but it's inevitable.
07:08If they take a quarterback in the first two rounds, you're a place gap guy
07:13until that quarterback picks up the system and shows that he can take over
07:19a Frank Reich offense.
07:20So, I mean, it's for the right now.
07:22And you think about it, you need to get weapons outside of Garrett Wilson.
07:27How are you supposed to bring in a potential Romeo Dobbs or a Debo Samuel
07:32or one of these receivers, and you have no quarterback to kind of sell to those guys?
07:37At least with the Geno, you've got a vet put in place to where you could be like,
07:40all right, if I get Seattle Seahawks, Geno, I'm going to get the Rock.
07:44We're going to make some moves.
07:45But if I get Vegas, Geno, same old Jets.
07:49So that's my –
07:50You know what?
07:51You said that perfectly.
07:53That was the – probably out of any explanation I could have thought of
07:57that made me a little somewhat – a little bit somewhat excited about the move
08:02to a degree is the last point you made.
08:04He would be best, Geno, for our situation looking at that second receiver coming.
08:10And that's via the draft too, Brandon.
08:11I mean, we're going to do our mock draft in a couple days, 4.0.
08:16If you want Jordan Tyson, and the more mocks I do, one of those two receivers,
08:21Tyson or Lemon, is usually there at 16.
08:24Even Sadiq is potentially going to be there at 16.
08:27I'm not saying that that's the move, but you never know.
08:29He's looked at it as more of a weapon than a tight end anyway.
08:32You're better off with Geno Smith than most other guys.
08:34I just hope – available, I'm saying.
08:37I just hope that that room is not just, oh, we got to sit there for a year
08:42and watch Geno Smith play quarterback.
08:44And, like, they're just telling us it's 2027,
08:47which honestly is probably the most rational way to go about this.
08:51But how long are we going to just watch meaningless football?
08:54You know what I mean, man?
08:55At least – you're basically saying at least bring in some competition.
09:00Make them fight it out.
09:00Yeah, somebody that could pop, man.
09:03Yep, yep.
09:04So we'll see, man.
09:06All right, man.
09:06Appreciate you chopping off, Frankie.
09:08Appreciate you, Brandon.
09:09Thanks, man.
09:10Thank you, Brandon.
09:10Thank you, Brandon.
09:12Thank you, Brandon.
09:12Thank you, Brandon.
09:14Thank you, Brandon.
09:14Thank you, Brandon.
09:14Thank you, Brandon.
