00:01Brought up, brought up some good times.
00:042023 was awesome.
00:06I mean, I'm going to miss him.
00:09I don't know why everybody else is so, uh, so in the mood to celebrate.
00:14And by the way, you know, till we see you again, it's a quick drive up 95 to Atlanta.
00:20He's going to be a Falcon.
00:22You're going to ride up and check out a couple of games.
00:24I'm going to go to the varsity.
00:25You know, my, you know, my routine, my routine in Atlanta.
00:29I go to the varsity and grab a burger or two.
00:32Maybe a glizzy shoot over, see a two of Falcons game back home before Sunday night.
00:39I'm busy.
00:40I don't know what day it is, but I'm busy.
00:42Man.
00:44They couldn't wish him a happy birthday on Twitter.
00:50Ridiculous.
00:51So the deed has been done to, uh, will no longer be a Miami dolphin, nothing in return.
00:57Just, uh, Hey, we wish you well.
00:59Your services are no longer needed here.
01:02And Malik Willis is the new quarterback for the Miami dolphins.
01:07It's look, it's a little bit shocking to me.
01:10This is not the route that I thought that they were going to go, but I will tell you,
01:14they are all in on being green Bay.
01:17We are, we are the queso heads cabezas.
01:20The queso, we are like green Bay to the South.
01:25I don't know if this is what Steven Ross had envisioned when he started making the changes
01:31with Chris Greer, but we are all in being green Bay, not a bad organization to, uh, to
01:40try to emulate.
01:41Yeah.
01:42One playoff games last couple of years, like that one, a super bowl, but they're, they're
01:46a successful organization.
01:48I, uh, I am a little shocked though.
01:5145 million guaranteed.
01:53I understand Malik Willis, his contract is fine.
01:57If you look at it compared to who you should be comparing him to, right?
02:02It works out to be what between 22 and 23 million, uh, average salary, um, over the
02:09course of each year, I'm not necessarily now, obviously they think because $45 million, I
02:17don't care if that's on the low end of quarterbacks, $45 million guaranteed is in my opinion, a huge
02:24gamble to take on the quarterback position when you don't necessarily need to take it yet.
02:31Like my thought was, Hey, you've got Quinn Ewers on the cheap, cheap.
02:37And you can ride next season with him, start to accrue your assets so that you can make
02:46a legit team for the following season.
02:51But they obviously are of the opinion Malik Willis was going to sign somewhere else and
02:57he would have, he would have gotten this money if not more somewhere else.
03:03And I guess that Sully and Halfley had determined, Hey, if we don't get them now, this is our
03:11only chance to get them.
03:13And we think this guy is a guy that we can build around.
03:17So they obviously have a deep belief in Malik Willis.
03:22They slow played it.
03:23They talked about having competition in the quarterback room.
03:25There obviously isn't going to be competition in the quarterback room.
03:29Malik Willis is your starting quarterback going into next season.
03:33They have a deep belief in him.
03:37They paid him as the, I want to say it's the 22nd and 23rd highest paid quarterback in the
03:43league.
03:44So like you're saying, it's a lot of money, but you have to look at, you know, look at the
03:47landscape.
03:49Where is they believe in him?
03:50Is he the 20th best quarterback in the world?
03:52I don't know.
03:53And he hasn't played enough games for anybody to know, but Halfley and Sully, they've seen
03:57him.
03:57They've seen him for a couple of years now.
03:59He held it down when Joy Love got hurt.
04:02Not a bad contract.
04:03I'm kind of with you, Hawk, to the, to the, what has he proved to, to be the guy to
04:09go out
04:09there and really like, he was a target.
04:12They saw their target.
04:13They went and got their target is exactly what they did.
04:15So this is Sully's first big addition.
04:18And this is his first evaluation.
04:20You made this your quarterback.
04:23He better be good.
04:24Yeah.
04:25Yeah.
04:26I mean, Sully did not stray far from the ranch.
04:29He identified Halfley as the coach he wanted to go get.
04:33He identified Malik Willis as the quarterback he wanted to go get.
04:38And, uh, this is where we are.
04:41The Dolphins off-season cuts are Tua, Tyreek, Bradley Chubb, Nick Westbrook-Akine, James Daniels,
04:51Jason Sanders, Alec Ingold, Liam Eikenberg.
04:54We know today Minka was traded.
04:57So he goes in the division to the Jets.
05:01And did I see Jake Bailey?
05:03Is he the Dolphins punter?
05:04I don't even know if he's the current Dolphins punter.
05:06He was.
05:07He, he signed elsewhere.
05:09You, you've got a complete rebuild going on here.
05:13This is from the ground up, but most important part of the rebuild is generally the quarterback.
05:21And they wasted no time in telling you who Tua's replacement is going to be.
05:28So you got to have trust in Sully and Halfley.
05:31So I trust them and we will see.
05:35I, I, I, I, I don't know how to feel because I know the Dolphins over under on season wins
05:41was four and a half.
05:42I can't imagine that this moved it at all.
05:45No.
05:46So then it's too much unknown.
05:48Then what did we do?
05:50You think it moved it, Solana?
05:51No, no, this is a proven, he has a lot to prove.
05:55They're taking him on so he can prove he's a starting quarterback.
05:59That's fine.
05:59But that, that number was made.
06:01Solana sounds really soft to me.
06:02Does he sound soft to anybody else?
06:04Yes.
06:04That, that number, I'll just raise myself over here.
06:07That number was raised or was, was made prior to anybody knowing who the Dolphins quarterback was going to be.
06:14Correct.
06:15And now you add a quarterback.
06:16I'm not telling you that Malik Willis is going to move that from four and a half to nine, but
06:21it should go up at least a little bit.
06:23Especially as the pieces start falling into place around Malik Willis.
06:27It's a five and a half.
06:30And by the way, it has not moved.
06:32I'm looking at the Hard Rock app right now.
06:33Four and a half is the Dolphins win total.
06:36I don't think it moves it at all.
06:38I just, what do you know about him?
06:40I don't think he would move it if they named Quinn Ewers the quarterback.
06:43If they got Mack Jones, if they, like, I just don't think that Malik Willis moves the needle at all.
06:50Well, what I know about him should move it the other way.
06:52It should move him to less than four and a half.
06:55Because I was just looking at some of the numbers.
06:57With the Titans, he posted an 11 total QBR.
07:00That was 68th of 69 available quarterbacks who had 90 or more dropbacks.
07:06And then last year, or from 24 to 25 with the Packers, an 86 total QBR.
07:12Best of the 62 quarterbacks with 90 or more dropbacks.
07:17But the caveat being, we saw last year, he threw 35 pass attempts.
07:22So, yeah, we don't know anything about him.
07:25But I told you guys from the very beginning, I was so interested if Sully and Halfley made a strong
07:30push for him.
07:31In other words, he didn't open the market, and after a couple weeks or months, nobody had really offered him
07:37anything, and they settled on him.
07:39I mean, literally at noon, the negotiating period opened.
07:43Boom.
07:44He's your quarterback.
07:45Here's the deal.
07:46It's done.
07:46And he's on Pat McAfee five minutes later after a workout talking about this contract.
07:51Clearly, it was done already before that negotiating window opened.
07:55They wanted this dude.
07:56They played it coy, but they wanted this dude.
07:59That's what I said.
07:59They slow played it.
08:00If they talked about competition in the quarterback room, it's very apparent.
08:04They had their eyes set on Malik Willis.
08:08No one else.
08:09Everything else was kind of like, well, we'll see.
08:12Maybe it'll affect the market a little bit.
08:13They wanted Malik Willis.
08:15They got Malik Willis.
08:17There was never, in my opinion, a notion that they weren't going to get Malik Willis.
08:23But if Steven Ross hired these guys, especially Sully, because of his ability to evaluate talent, then they can't be
08:31this bad at evaluating talent.
08:33They were around this dude more than anybody.
08:35He's got to be.
08:37But to your point.
08:39But to your point.
08:40They saw him.
08:41They know they wanted him.
08:42Like you said, they played it coy.
08:44The second they could sign him, they signed him.
08:46That contract was already.
08:47They were already writing up those numbers last week.
08:50They said Malik Willis is going to be our quarterback.
08:52That's what they said.
08:53So you had your target.
08:55You hit your target.
08:56Now you have to prove to us or he has to show us that he's worth it.
08:59Couldn't beat out Will Levis in Tennessee.
09:02Was a backup there.
09:03He wasn't no way going to play over Jordan Love, a first-round pick in Green Bay.
09:06They brought him in to back him up.
09:08So now he has to prove that.
09:11Well, Huck, you said they're making Green Bay South almost.
09:14They're building the Packers in Miami.
09:17I don't know if that's a terrible idea.
09:19It's not.
09:20It's like the Winn-Dixie by me just closed.
09:22I was hurt today.
09:23I rode past the Winn-Dixie.
09:25The signage was gone.
09:26Nothing's there.
09:26If Publix buys that space, they're going to make it a Publix.
09:31And Publix is very successful.
09:33Green Bay's been successful.
09:34Well, here's the difference.
09:36No, no, no.
09:36Here's the difference.
09:38One of the guys who was running Publix buys that space and calls it Jublix.
09:45Because it's not.
09:47Green Bay's not coming in to run.
09:49They hired a guy from Green Bay, and he's trying to emulate.
09:54So this is Jublix.
09:55It's not Publix.
09:57We're hoping it's as good as Publix.
10:00But don't get a mistake, and it's still Jublix.
10:03We got to figure out what Jublix looks like.
10:06By the way, Jimmy, write that down.
10:08That's a good idea by me.
10:09Open Jublixes near Publix.
10:11Lower prices.
10:13A capital P, same color, green, Jublix.
10:19I like it, man.
10:20I like what they did today.
10:21Honestly, these guys found a quarterback that they think can be a more than serviceable,
10:28but a quality starting quarterback.
10:31We saw Seattle just win a Super Bowl without an elite quarterback.
10:35We've seen the Eagles do it without an elite quarterback.
10:38Somebody who's mobile.
10:39Dude's got a cannon of an arm.
10:42And if the two people who are around him in that building who are now running my organization
10:46feel like he could be the answer for the next three, four years at least,
10:51then I'll ride with it, man.
10:52This is their first decision.
10:53They can't be this bad of decision makers.
10:55With their first big decision at the helm of the organization,
10:58they have to know that he's legit good.
11:02Well, I would say to you, it's an easy decision for them.
11:06So I'm not necessarily, it's not a ballsy decision by any stretch of the imagination.
11:11I'll give an example that hits close to our show.
11:14Zach Gelb comes on with us every week.
11:16He doesn't have his network show anymore.
11:18So I go to Len, our program director, and I say,
11:21hey, we need some part-time help around the radio station.
11:24This is a true story, by the way.
11:25I think I told everyone last week that Zach Gelb is now one of our part-timers
11:30and he can fill in for us when we need.
11:32But I didn't search all the air talent in the country.
11:37I was familiar with Gelb.
11:39I've seen him work up close because we have him on every week.
11:43And I'm comfortable that he's very good at what he does.
11:46So I lobbied for him.
11:48Hey, we need to get this guy on our roster.
11:51But admittedly, I didn't look at 50 other air talents around the country
11:56and really make a determination.
11:58I knew I was comfortable with him.
12:00I knew he was good enough to do the job.
12:02And so he gets the job.
12:05But I'm not necessarily certain this is a ballsy or gutsy decision.
12:11I hope it works.
12:13Yeah.
12:13I'm a Dolphins fan.
12:15The notion of having a guy with a cannon for an arm who also can extend the play.
12:20God bless us.
12:22We haven't had that.
12:23You just said, I hope it works.
12:24I didn't know if you were talking about Gelb or Malik Willis.
12:27Both.
12:28But it's honest.
12:29No, really.
12:30It's honest.
12:31I hope Gelb comes in and does his thing.
12:33Because I listen to him when, you know, his show, I listen to him on YouTube
12:37and all his last show.
12:39He's good at what he does.
12:40That's what Sully and Halfley are betting on.
12:43I've watched him play.
12:44I've seen him play.
12:45He had an opportunity.
12:46I'm willing to give him this opportunity.
12:47And we trust his ability to take over as a starter.
12:51They hoping to.
12:52We're all hoping.
12:53A bunch of hope is going on right now in South Florida.
12:55That's what it is.
12:56I got more faith in Malik Willis than I do in Gelb.
12:59I'll just throw it out there.
13:03You hate Gelb, bro.
13:05Anyway.
13:06Joe Shad had tweeted out,
13:08Tua Tagovailoa was a pro bowler and he led the NFL in passing yards,
13:13passing touchdowns, and passer rating.
13:16But he joins Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Tannehill, Jay Cutler, Matt Moore,
13:23Chad Pennington, Cleo Lemon, Joey Harrington, Gus Perrott, and A.J.
13:28Feeley on the list of QBs who couldn't break Miami's drought without a playoff win.
13:34Last to do it was Jay Fiedler.
13:39Named the list of all my friends.
13:42I think he missed Josh Rosen in there, didn't he?
13:47That act two.
13:48You've been asking people about Tua's act two.
13:50Yeah.
13:51Somebody asked me about that, and I had to be.
13:53I think his body's shot.
13:55I don't know if he goes dead landing balls.
13:57I think his, I think it's the, not just the concussions.
14:00I think the knees, the ankles, all that I think is getting to him.
14:04Three, four games, though.
14:05Three, four games, you got to keep your team in the hunt.
14:09Oh, yeah.
14:10A small window with a sprained ankle by the starter?
14:13Oh, no.
14:13No, that's, I think that's his, that's the rest of his career.
