00:00The Miami Dolphins, they've hired Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Halfley,
00:05couched underneath the college football championship game yesterday.
00:08The Dolphins made their head coaching hire official.
00:12Stephen Ross released a statement, quote,
00:14I believe great things are ahead for the Miami Dolphins with Halfley leading the way.
00:18He's an accomplished coach with a proven track record as a leader and motivator.
00:23He has tenacity.
00:24He has grit, while at the same time establishing trust with his players
00:28in order to get the most out of them.
00:30I would submit to you this.
00:33Next season, the Miami Dolphins season,
00:36is going to be one of the most uninteresting, boring seasons
00:40we have sat through in a while.
00:42Mike McDaniel, there was a little vibe of interest because we knew,
00:46remember when he was coming here, he had all like,
00:48he had rap quotes at his press conferences.
00:51We'd never seen a head coach like that.
00:53Tua was still a thing.
00:55Tyreek Hill is on the roster.
00:57I have a feeling next season, everyone knows you're looking at what,
01:04a six and 11 season.
01:08I mean, there's no real hope for much of that.
01:12So it's already going to be a boring season.
01:14It's going to probably be a bridge season for quarterback.
01:20And this is his first season as a head coach.
01:24The cap constraint is heavy.
01:26I just think it's going to be a very bland, blah season.
01:33It's not even like, you know, North Carolina in college football, terrible season.
01:39But you've got Bill Belichick and the girlfriend and you like, like this just seems to me like we are headed towards a really boring, bland season.
01:49Not to say that you won't see the building blocks for the future of something great or that it won't be the start of something great.
01:56I just have a feeling next season in particular is going to be very boring and uninteresting.
02:03You just said it.
02:05This is a change of culture and setting a foundation and foundations and stability is very boring.
02:12So they hired a foundation stability guy and that's boring as hell.
02:17I wanted to go offense because you have to score points.
02:19But, you know, the comfort level of Green Bay and Green Bay with the GM and head coach, I like.
02:25But, Hawk, I think you hit it on the head.
02:27We win six.
02:28We win six.
02:30We should be happy.
02:31It's like you talk about building a house.
02:33So if you're building a home, you're going to take pictures and show your friends when walls are going up or a roof is there.
02:42It's not the laying of the foundation.
02:44It's the most boring part of the construction process is the laying of the.
02:49But now it's extremely important, but the most, the most important, the most important, but the most boring part visually.
02:57And entertainment wise is the laying of the foundation.
03:01Yeah.
03:02Hey, Hawk, check out this cement, bro.
03:04Yeah, exactly.
03:05All right.
03:05I see it.
03:06It's coming.
03:07And that's right.
03:10It's that's about it.
03:12Yeah.
03:12Well, I'd like to go on record.
03:14If that is the course that they take, we'll see.
03:16We'll find out.
03:17Don't win six games.
03:18Win less.
03:20I'm already on that train.
03:21But when you say if that's the course they take, is there another option?
03:24What's the other option?
03:25It's it's probably the only option, but I still think we've seen it in the NFL quicker turnarounds.
03:31They can go out.
03:32They can get Willis.
03:33Right.
03:33I'm not saying there can't be a quick turnaround, but to think that next season when they have
03:39all these salary cap, when all this cap dead money, like I just don't see how maybe you
03:45get Malik Willis and he's good.
03:48But is he Patrick Mahomes?
03:51No, I'm with you.
03:52I'm not saying that they're going to be Super Bowl contenders next year, but I don't I
03:55wouldn't put it past any NFL organization to go from where the Dolphins are at cap hell
04:01to somehow, for whatever reason, competing in a playoff for a playoff spot next year.
04:07Again, I'm not I'm not suggesting they will.
04:09I'm just saying if you're not, then don't do this thing where you win six or seven games
04:14again.
04:15Like if next year is a bridge year, be the Saints, be the Titans this year, be the Raiders
04:21this year.
04:22Go all in.
04:23Do it the right way.
04:24Not how they did it in 2018, which is where they won five games and they screwed themselves
04:29out of a generational quarterback.
04:31Put yourself in the best position to have a elite draft pick the following year and don't
04:37get back on the hamster wheel.
04:40I've had I've had we've we've actually us three have talked about this through the years.
04:44How do you do that with the first time head coach that has to prove himself?
04:47And with a bunch of young guys that are on the page, how do you tell them?
04:50How do you tell them don't win six games, Solana?
04:53He doesn't have to prove himself because we just told you tell a how do you tell a roster
05:00don't win six games?
05:02You don't tell the roster don't win six games, but you literally you can construct the roster
05:07so it's impossible to win.
05:09I understand it, but that literally means getting rid of everyone.
05:14Devon H and the like, and I don't.
05:17I don't think they're at that point.
05:18I don't think I'm with you.
05:19I'm with you, but I'm telling you where I'm coming from.
05:22I just don't think that's reality.
05:23What what Steven Ross chose to do here was to strip it all down, which, by the way, I
05:27asked for.
05:28I'm not complaining.
05:29I don't even have a take on any of these hires.
05:31I'm willing to see it play out, which I think should be how most Dolphins fans feel about
05:36this.
05:37Fine.
05:37These are your selections for likely your last rebuild of this organization.
05:41I'm willing to see it play out.
05:43But next year, do it the right way.
05:48You stripped it all down.
05:50Be bad for a year.
05:51Put yourself forward by putting yourself backward for a year.
05:56And the Titans, the Titans were terrible and they had the first pick of the draft.
06:00So now they're rebuilding.
06:01But I would say the Raiders, they went and hired Pete Carroll and went and paid Geno and
06:07were still terrible.
06:09You know, like the thought you're saying, I understand the concept of it, but it's way
06:14harder to do that.
06:15It's a lot harder to pull off because the people who are out there in the coaching, no one's
06:18ever going to try to lose a game.
06:20Period.
06:20End of story.
06:21Again, you can construct a roster that makes it difficult to win games, but that doesn't
06:25mean it's going to work.
06:26A couple other notes in the NFL, the Titans, speaking of the Titans, they hired Robert Sala
06:33as their head coach.
06:35All right.
06:36The Steelers are set to interview Brian Flores today for head coach.
06:40I also read they're going to interview Mike McCarthy tomorrow for the head coaching vacancy.
06:44I think I saw Mike McDaniel was interviewed today by the Raiders.
06:48Maybe anybody see that as a head coach?
06:52I think so.
06:53Well, he's not going to be the offensive coordinator in Detroit, which a lot of people were linking
06:57him to that job.
06:58They hired somebody else.
06:59Although I did see something that was interesting that said he's not a culture fit for Dan Campbell's
07:04team.
07:05Like as, as interesting as it might've been to see Mike McDaniel take over for Ben Johnson,
07:12a season removed from Ben Johnson.
07:14When you realize that maybe Ben Johnson was the key to that Detroit offense, Mike McDaniel's
07:19style doesn't really jibe with Dan Campbell's style.
07:25You know, Dan Campbell would pee in his off-white ones.
07:30Polar opposites.
07:32Like just polar opposites.
07:32But I think that, that, that is why Mike McDaniel perhaps may have been interested in
07:36that position from the standpoint of, let me go see how a different type of competitor,
07:42a different type of coaching style could benefit my coaching style moving forward.
07:47I think that's why a lot of people thought they would be a good fit for one another from
07:51the standpoint of McDaniel could absorb a lot of knowledge for his next opportunity.
07:57And Anthony Weaver.
07:58I think a zebra has its stripes.
08:00Speaking of why Tennessee hire Robert Sala, because it's, he's very Mike Grable-ish and
08:05they saw success with Mike Grable.
08:06Like if you want a Mike McDaniel, you get a Mike McDaniel.
08:09You can't make Mike McDaniel, Mike Grable.
08:11It's just not going to happen.
08:12They're not, they're not that person.
08:15Anthony Weaver, our defensive coordinator.
08:18He's interviewing for the Baltimore Ravens head coaching vacancy today.
08:22Remember he has history there.
08:24He played there and he was a coordinator there as well.
