00:00I don't know if you guys saw, BetOnline's got the season win totals for the NFL.
00:06The team with the biggest difference from the previous season,
00:13either positive or negative, is the Miami Dolphins.
00:18Miami Dolphins, last season, their total was set at 8.5 when the season began.
00:26And the total right now, over-under for wins, Dolphins, on the season, next season, is 4.5.
00:37Which is, by the way, the lowest in the NFL, according to BetOnline.
00:43They have the lowest win total in all of the NFL.
00:49Got the Cardinals with 5, and I don't think there's any team Raiders at 5 as well.
00:58Dolphins, 4.5. Jets, 5.5.
01:01Those are your bottom feeders.
01:03According to BetOnline, those are your bottom feeders for the coming season.
01:07That's quite a difference.
01:09A 4-game difference on your over-under win total is pretty significant.
01:15And I take that to mean there is no quick fix, there's no easy fix.
01:25I almost extrapolate it out to say, what would be the point in spending a lot of money on Malik
01:33Willis?
01:33Because if you're over-under win totals 4.5, let's say Malik Willis has the greatest season he's capable of
01:40having.
01:41Is it worth three wins?
01:43Yes.
01:45Now you're at number 13 draft pick again.
01:49Yeah.
01:50So.
01:51What's our talk?
01:52It's to the point of Malik Willis and Kirk Cousins and Jimmy Garoppolo and Mac Jones.
01:57What's the goal for next season?
02:00Is it to try to get to 500?
02:03Like, what are we really, what are, what are we, what are we training for?
02:07What are we working for?
02:09What's the goal for next year?
02:10I know Halfley and Sullivan want to win as many games, but what really is the goal?
02:15And I think that's the thing that we have to come, come to grips with as Dolphin fans.
02:20Well, I think it's for them to start building their base, right?
02:23Building what their era is.
02:24And for me, I would just say, go with Quinn Ewers then, because if he's spectacularly good,
02:31if there's an upside there that we haven't seen, then wow, maybe you put together eight,
02:36nine wins and you say to yourself, you know what?
02:39We've got a rookie quarterback, a second year quarterback, who's a lot better.
02:44We get him some help.
02:45And if he's no good, well, you got the benefit of having a terrible season and a higher draft
02:50pick, and you can go and address the quarterback.
02:52So I kind of feel like, and again, all I'm doing here is based on what BetOnline is saying,
02:59but I look at that and I go lowest over under win total in the league and the biggest drop
03:05off from one season to the next in the league.
03:07You might as well just roll the dice with Quinn Ewers because you're not going to fix it
03:12with Malik Willis.
03:13The only thing you can end up doing, like you say, is maybe add two or three wins, which
03:18probably isn't what you're looking to do anyway.
03:21If you're adding two, three wins because of Quinn Ewers, that you want to find out because
03:26you've got them on the cheap, but to add two or three or four wins and pay Malik Willis
03:3215 mil a season for the next two seasons to do so to me, wouldn't be worth it.
03:40I genuinely wonder what Halfley and Sully's real pinning of Malik Willis is, and I think
03:47that is going to be real eye-opening into whether or not they go out and get him.
03:52For me, the only reason you go out and get Malik Willis is not because you think he's the
03:57difference between being a three-win team and a six-win team.
04:00It's if you genuinely believe there's a chance, and they would know better than anybody there
04:05around him, that he could be the next Sam Darnold or has the upside of being a legitimate
04:11starting quarterback in this league.
04:14And if they do believe that there's a chance he can be, and it's not just a one-year rental,
04:20then I think you should go get him.
04:21But if they just think, hey, he's a one-year rental at best.
04:25But he's not going to be a one-year rental, right?
04:28What do we see, Crowder?
04:29He's going to get two or three years, 40, 45 million, they're saying.
04:34But I'm kind of with Solana.
04:37If they think, though, he's the next Sam Darnold, then you spend the money.
04:41Then I'm with it.
04:43Yeah.
04:44But quickly, Solana, sorry, I'll let you finish, man.
04:46But even last year, everybody's saying he filled in when he did fill in for Joy and Love.
04:50He was amazing.
04:51He was amazing.
04:51He threw 61 passes, completed 31 of them, 51% completion percentage, three touchdowns.
04:58I mean, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, or whatever it was.
05:02Like, it wasn't amazing.
05:04It's the thought that he can be amazing.
05:07I'm not arguing to go get Malik Willis.
05:10I'm telling you that if it were me, and I'm talking to Sully and Halfley, right, as Stephen Ross,
05:18I'm saying, hey, what is this guy?
05:20Can he actually maybe be a legitimate quality starting quarterback in the NFL that could answer our QB issue so
05:28that we don't have to try to get lucky in the NFL draft and hit on the right guy over
05:31the next two, three years?
05:32Then he's worth the investment, in my mind.
05:35But if he's not, if you're just looking at him as, hey, a guy that, you know, two years, we'll
05:42have him here until we find the next guy, then what's the point?
05:45Like, if you're looking for the next guy knowing that you're bringing him in anyways, then just go find the
05:51next guy with Quinn Ewers and put yourself in a better position to get the next guy.
05:56I've been going back and forth on this for a while.
05:58Like, do we want Malik Willis?
06:00What should the Dolphins approach be next season?
06:02Because I know they're in a bad position with the cap.
06:05I don't know what I want yet.
06:07I honestly have no idea.
06:08But if they go out and get Malik Willis, I hope it's because they think he can actually be, I'm
06:15not going to call him a franchise guy, but you know what I mean?
06:17A starter that could put you in a playoff position.
06:20Right.
06:21There's no point in throwing the money at him that he's going to command if you don't think that.
06:25So you're right.
06:26We'll find out what they think of him.
06:28If they go out and sign him and say, yeah, we're willing to earmark 50 million towards this guy over
06:35the next three seasons, then you know they think this guy is the guy that they'd be looking for a
06:41season from now.
06:42Right.
06:42But to that point, if you're going into week 15, 14 games, Quinn Ewers has you at 2-12, Malik
06:50Willis has you at 14-10, like, what's the point of giving him $15 million, $20 million a year to
06:59get you two more wins where you're already going to be at the playoffs?
07:02That's what Sully and him have to figure out.
07:04Like, is he, like, what's the point of bringing in a two-year quarterback on a rebuild, giving him $20
07:10million a year where he's going to give you two or three more wins over Quinn Ewers and lower your
07:15draft position?
07:18Because I don't know.
07:19We've talked about this last week, Solana.
07:21What is our goal at this?
07:23What's the goal of this quarterback?
07:25Is it just to get through the transition or is it to win more games?
07:30Everybody wants to win games, bro, but three more games?
07:33So four and a half to seven.
07:37Seven and nine?
07:39Right, right.
07:40But if in the short term, in the way I'm looking at it, right, they believe he could actually be
07:46a quality starting quarterback, right?
07:48I'm not going to say he's Sam Darnold, but somebody that has that trajectory given the opportunity.
07:52Okay, maybe next year, Crowder, because the roster is so unbalanced, because you don't have the ability to go build
08:00a winning roster around him, maybe next year you only do win five or six games, but you see promise
08:06in him.
08:07And then with another draft and another opportunity with more flexibility at the cap, now you can put a quality
08:13roster around him.
08:14You don't have to waste a potential starting quarterback in the first 15 picks because you have a quarterback already.
08:21And that to me is the upside if, again, they view him as that.
08:26But if they don't, then yeah, I'm with you.
08:28Why go and roll the dice and throw a bunch of money in at a guy that really hasn't proven
08:33anything.
08:33He's proven he's a quality backup.
08:35Maybe, maybe a starter.
08:37We don't know.
08:38But that's where it makes sense, what Solana is saying.
08:40If you think he's going to be a good quarterback, an excellent quarterback, well, you go, okay, he'll get his
08:49reps.
08:50He'll learn our system over the course of a season.
08:53We're going to win five, six, seven games, but also we're going to have a hundred million dollars the next
09:00season freed up in cap space that we're not going to be hamstrung.
09:03And so we know that we've got the quarterback.
09:06We don't have to waste a dime or a draft pick on a quarterback because we've already got that guy
09:12built in.
09:13So that's the benefit.
09:14But they have to believe that he's the guy.
09:18If they don't, then it makes no sense.
