23 September - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Do you have your thick coat out yet? There's a bit of a nip in the air again, similar to yesterday morning, a touch of frost in a few places and even a few pockets of mist and fog.
00:10We have lots of settled weather around at the moment because high pressure is in control and it's going to continue to be through the next few days.
00:17What that means is lots more fine sunny weather as we go through the rest of this morning, really, albeit a few showery bursts still for Orkney and Shetland and a few more showers across parts of East Anglia and towards Kent.
00:28Some of them could be a little bit on the heavy side. Some blustery winds here and a bit more cloud and then that cloud's going to become more widespread as we go through the day.
00:36So after a sunny morning for many of us, it is going to be markedly cloudier by the afternoon.
00:41Still some bright or sunny spells around and if you catch the sunshine, well, that will help warm things up a little bit.
00:47Otherwise, under the cloud, well, temperatures are a little bit below average for the time of year, most places seeing highs in the mid-teens Celsius.
00:54Then later on, well, we're going to see the showers fizzling out eventually across parts of the southeast, but it may take a little while for them to do so.
01:03So still some showers continuing overnight for a little while yet.
01:06And then otherwise, we are going to have a lot of dry, clear weather once more.
01:11Some places sticking with the cloud, particularly coastal parts of Wales, maybe southwest England and the far southwest of the borders area as well.
01:18But otherwise, dry and clear for the majority of us. So again, we're going to see our temperatures dropping.
01:23Similar to last night, really. Towns and cities mid-single figures, but rural spots a few degrees lower than this.
01:28In fact, some parts, particularly around Scotland, could drop below freezing.
01:32So a touch of frost and again, some mist and fog patches could develop through the early hours of tomorrow morning.
01:37Otherwise, through tomorrow, well, a bright sunny start for most of us.
01:41Sunny, mist and fog will quickly burn away. And then, yes, we are going to see more cloud bubbling up as we go into the afternoon.
01:47But still, there will be some bright or sunny breaks around and only one or two showers here and there.
01:52These are going to be short-lived and light, so not really causing any problems at all.
01:56And most of us won't really see any of them.
01:58With the sunny breaks, again, the sunshine is all important for how warm it's going to be.
02:04Similar temperature-wise to today, really mid, possibly high teens in a few places.
02:08So temperatures may be up a degree or so, but again, the sunshine is going to make all the difference.
02:14Then as we go towards the end of the week, well, Thursday's looking largely fine still.
02:18Friday's starting to turn cloudier, perhaps some thicker cloud, maybe even a few spots of rain pushing in from the west.
02:24But it's really by Saturday that's when we're going to see some wetter and perhaps even windier weather arriving.
02:29So a more unsettled theme for the weekend.
02:32And worth noting that by day, the temperatures don't change a huge amount.
02:36By night, we're actually going to see our temperatures rising, so the nights are going to become a fair bit milder by the time that we get to the weekend.
02:43For more information about that, why don't you check out our deep dive, which Honor will be bringing to you later on.
02:47Bye-bye.
