00:00Nathan Zagura was on with the Morning Boys and Daryl today and talked about the Browns quarterback room and where
00:08the Browns could be going in the offseason.
00:09I really don't think you can have another three-person quarterback competition, let alone four, like you did last year.
00:16So, to me, if you were to bring in another veteran, and I'm just going to throw out a name,
00:20not that I'm advocating for this,
00:22but just a name that was mentioned from The Athletic yesterday of the quarterback room predictions, and they mentioned Justin
00:27Fields for the Browns.
00:28I'm not saying that's the answer, but to me, if you make a move like that, I don't think one
00:32of Deshaun or Shadour can be here.
00:34I don't think you can have three quarterbacks.
00:37I think that it's got to be, you know, Deshaun and Shadour Sanders are going to have a competition to
00:41be the starting quarterback.
00:42That's what Todd Munkin has said. That's what I believe to be the case right now, and I think Deshaun
00:46Watson is very much in that competition.
00:49Now, if you were to bring in another quarterback that you really thought had a legitimate chance to start, then
00:54I would say that somebody's got to go.
00:58Deal, Deshaun. We can't do that.
01:01Ideal world, you're right. But Deshaun has no place to go is the problem with this.
01:06He does. It's called not on the field.
01:08Well, that's what I would want for him as well, but the idea that if you've got to kick some
01:12players off, the easier one to kick off here is Shadour.
01:16I would disagree. I think Shadour's going to be here in a year, and I don't think Deshaun will.
01:19I think Shadour's going to be here in a year as well. I think he's going to be here beyond
01:22a year.
01:22But if we're trying to figure out how you maneuver some of these players, the implication I took from that
01:27was that it would be Shadour.
01:29That would be the one that is out. Now, unless how do we get to a spot where Deshaun just,
01:33I don't know, never even shows up?
01:36I think this probably actually came about, to backtrack a little bit, about a year ago when he tore his
01:44Achilles for the second time.
01:45I think the Browns have to act like Deshaun is part of this for whatever reason, whether it's because he's
01:52going to be here and it's just the niceties of it.
01:55I think it just makes the incredible amount of sense. I think Nathan's right, by the way.
02:00I think have a two-man quarterback room.
02:02I agree with that too.
02:02And I think it's easy that you just go to Deshaun and say, hey, we haven't seen enough in workouts.
02:07We're going to get this veteran quarterback in. It's going to be him versus Shadour.
02:11And the only way you see the field this year is if both of those guys go down.
02:15So it is, in fact, a three-quarterback room. It's just a two-quarterback competition.
02:19I think it's very similar to last year where they said it was a four-man quarterback derby.
02:23And it was really a three-man quarterback derby with Shadour throwing to guys in accounting.
02:28Oh, okay. So Shadour will be like, oh yeah, I'm used to this. I know what you guys are doing.
02:31And they'll be like, Deshaun, I've been there, slugger. Sorry about it.
02:35I've seen this one. It'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
02:38And then is Dylan just gone out of this equation too?
02:42I would imagine so. Although, wow, way to tank a guy's value.
02:47Gone from the 92nd pick in the draft to, I saw somebody suggesting you might be able to get a
02:52sixth or seventh rounder for him.
02:54I think that was me like a month ago.
02:56I was on Twitter yesterday. That's where I saw it.
02:58But it wasn't you. We had this conversation, I think, like a month ago.
03:01And I said sixth or seventh rounder. I think it was a debate between us about what his value would
03:05be.
03:05Because I was so hell-bent on, I think, it being a sixth or seventh rounder.
03:08I also, listen, the Mac Jones thing still sticks in my mind.
03:12That Mac Jones, for a pick in Dylan Gabriel, might be a way that you kind of get both of
03:17these things that we're talking about accomplished.
03:19Sure. But yes, I would be, if they, well, no, I shouldn't even say that.
03:24I would be very surprised if they didn't add a veteran quarterback of some repute to that mix.
03:30Which means I'd be very surprised if Dylan Gabriel was here by the time training camp was underway.
03:35I've been working under that understanding for a while.
03:37Well, I just, I don't see how he, I don't see how he lasts with the team.
03:40But I'm trying to figure out how we get to a spot where it's only two quarterbacks and it's a
03:44legitimate two-quarterback competition.
03:46And then where, if Deshaun's the odd man out, do we have to do any obstacles with the NFLPA?
03:52Like, is there something we have to satisfy that way?
03:54No, because you don't owe anybody anything.
03:56Like, he's still getting paid, right?
03:58No, I'm just, I legitimately don't know.
04:00I'm trying to ask because, like, I don't think you owe anybody anything.
04:03That's not really how this typically works.
04:05Well, but like the NFLPA, what are they going to do?
04:07Be like, he's better than the other guys?
04:09Well, that's subjective, no?
04:11I mean, so that would, yes.
04:13And so that's kind of the rhetoric the Browns would have to go on.
04:16I think you have to legitimately have him out there for a couple weeks and then just be like, we
04:20don't see it.
04:21And then just continue down that narrative.
04:22And in the process of it, for those couple weeks, just be like, I mean, just tell everybody and anybody,
04:26this guy is just, it's, I see the 650 days off that he's had.
04:31So I think the Browns know you can't do a three-man quarterback battle.
04:35I also think the Browns know that you don't really, Deshaun doesn't serve any purpose other than running out the
04:42string on his contract.
04:43And so I think, I really do think the odd man out is Deshaun.
04:48Because anything other than that feels just, it feels counter-logical at this point.
04:53And I can't imagine, like, well, the problem is I can't imagine the Browns doing it because of arrogance.
04:58Or they just keep doing things that don't make sense anyway, so that's why we can't really count against anything
05:04that they do.
05:05Because what I've been saying all day long, sound out what makes the most sense.
05:08Deshaun Watson, March 17th, the next year is gone, and they're going to invest heavily in that?
05:13That doesn't make any sense.
05:14Or they're going to put Shador out there and then invest in somebody that they can at least have under
05:18contract for a couple more years.
05:19That makes way more sense.
05:21But I do, I've seen a few people use this line, the Browns are done adding to the quarterback room.
05:28And my rebuttal is, they haven't started.
05:31You can't be done if you never started something.
05:34Right?
05:35Sure.
05:35The Browns, what you're saying is, because it's weird, the framing of this does matter.
05:40The Browns just passing on the quarterback market.
05:45I can understand why some people think that matters.
05:48But let's call it that, instead of, the Browns, they're just done adding.
05:53No, no, is that, no, no, they're not.
05:57They never started.
05:58Well, no, but I think what's interesting about this is that if you do add, or at least what Nathan's
06:01suggesting here,
06:02is that if you do add and you decide to do something different to the quarterback room,
06:05it's going to come at a cost of either one of Deshaun or Shador.
06:09216-474-0092, are the Browns done adding to the quarterback room?
06:15You heard Nathan Zagura say the Browns can't have a three-man quarterback competition.
06:20Would you consider Deshaun to be the odd man out from the competition, not from the roster,
06:25but from the competition, or would you consider it to be Shador?
06:28Or...
