00:00The last eight standing and an all-premiership clash under the lights as Falkirk and Dundee United take centre stage.
00:08Both have won the trophy twice. United's last triumph was all of 16 years ago
00:13when Craig Conway's man-of-the-match performance saw Peter Houston's side defeat Ross County.
00:19Falkirk have had to wait a fair bit longer given it's been 69 years since they got their hands on
00:25it
00:26but both can put themselves into a fabulous position to reset the dial
00:31if they can become the first side through to the semi-finals this evening.
00:37Falkirk have had a wonderful first top flight campaign since 2010 under that man.
00:42A top six place all but sealed two years ago Calvin Miller's goal was beating Cove Rangers in League One
00:49on their way to the third tier title. The Bairns have grown up a lot since then
00:54and will fancy their chances that they can match anyone left in the tournament
00:58as Jim Goodwin will. Dundee United have had their problems this season
01:03but all of those can be wiped out by lifting the silverware as they return to the Falkirk Stadium
01:09three weeks on from their victory here in the Premiership.
01:12It promises to be quite the night in front of a sell-out crowd.
01:17The hosts thrashed Colmarnock here last weekend as they got back to winning ways after a couple of narrow defeats.
01:25Including that one against United.
01:27They've got past Hearts and Stennis Muir to get here.
01:30And John McGlynn sends out the 11 that produced that demolition job six days ago.
01:34Both Tate and Stewart scored doubles.
01:37Liam Henderson was controversially sent off when these two met here last month.
01:41Cole Donaldson is a former United player and was relegated with them in 2016.
01:48United racked up an important victory over St Mirren on Tuesday night.
01:52Catching Falkirk in sixth looks unlikely now but it has surely ended all thoughts
01:56of being dragged into the fight to avoid 11th.
02:00Fata and Iovu are suspended for them.
02:10Well it's going to be quite the night but before we get underway there is going to be a minute's
02:15applause
02:16here ahead of kick-off for former Falkirk player John Markey who sadly passed away recently.
02:23Foint up a few times.
02:24Thank you!
02:24Thank you!
02:26We have a we have a great stand on.
02:27Bye!
02:28Hi!
02:29You have a great stand!
02:29Hi!
02:30And that it will take you!
02:31As longtime?
02:52Any time's anymore,
03:23A tribute to John Markey. If you followed Falkirk in the 60s and 70s, you'd very much be considered a
03:32legend of Brockville.
03:39A long time since the Bairns played there, but they've made this place their home over the course of the
03:46last couple of decades.
03:47And it is an imposing venue for Dundee United. There is Stephen McLean, the 2016 final referee who's taking charge,
03:55enjoying his 16th season in the game.
03:58He's produced four red cards in his last five, incidentally. And they've been pretty high profile ones too.
04:05And as Falkirk kick off the first of the quarterfinals, four ties over three days, one of the biggest weekends
04:12of the Scottish football season.
04:14Falkirk or Dundee United will be the first team into the hat for Hamden next month.
04:19It's almost too tight to call this one, but perhaps home advantage will tilt it the way of John McGlynn's
04:25side, given United have only won two of their last 12 away games.
04:29Though James McFadden, one of them, was here.
04:32Yes, and you would. Typically fancy Falkirk, but Dundee United have had some decent results here against a high-flying
04:39Falkirk side.
04:41And it is the Cup, so anything can happen, but I'm really looking forward to the game.
04:45I think we've got a really good gaming store. Hopefully we'll get the goals that they've delivered in the league
04:50games here.
04:53And there's Ross Graham, who was on the score sheet in that 3-2 victory.
04:58The Liam Henderson red card was pretty controversial at the time, was the denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.
05:05We've seen one or two of them recently, indeed, in this competition in the last round.
05:14A game at Pataudry between Aberdeen and Motherwells, a very similar sending off after a VAR review.
05:23Lucas Stevenson is in the wars already.
05:30That game was sitting at 2-2 when Henderson received his marching orders.
05:38He's enjoyed a couple of wins in the tournament this season.
05:41Jim Goodwin, the Scottish Cup's caused him plenty of nightmares over the course of the last few years.
05:50He's taken one right in the dish, James McFadden.
05:53Yeah, I mean, he's taken a sore one there, but he's just, it's good defending, actually,
05:57because he's marching the runner.
05:58Calvin Miller just steps in front of him, Calvin Miller's arm comes up.
06:01There's a sore one for him, but just make sure that Calvin Miller doesn't get him behind,
06:07because we know how important it is to Falkirk.
06:09He's been excellent this season, they all have been, really.
06:14It's not the first time we've seen a team come up from the second tier and finish in the top
06:19six.
06:22It's not arithmetically impossible, Dundee United overtake them, but it's a pretty substantial gap of nine points.
06:30Twelve to play far before the split.
06:34It's how they've done it as well, Liam.
06:35Coming up from League One into the Championship, and then coming up and playing the exact same way as they
06:41did in League One, it's really impressive.
06:46And then coming up from League One, it's a huge win for them, it's a huge win for them, and
07:00you can't see them having to nervously look over their shoulder, I know they're in a similar position to Aberdeen,
07:07and they've got those points on the board the other night, and they'll be a little bit frustrated, because again,
07:12Mike, a couple of other teams in the league, thinking, well, they won't think they're the Rangers, too many draws.
07:17Yeah, I think they will be, Jim, good win a bit.
07:20So we're left frustrated because I think that, you know, this season, there's a period where there's a problem with
07:27goalkeepers and they were losing goals that, I know every team can then look at goals of loss, but certainly
07:32didn't help them, and it will be a frustration.
07:34You look at, you know, the successes of what I was just saying, this season, then the target for them,
07:40the United, having, you know, been top six last season, would have been to get top six again, and so
07:45that will be the frustration.
07:51But they've got a great opportunity here to have a successful season.
08:00Well, if you're not going to challenge for the league title, I think most supporters would accept even finishing 10th,
08:05if it meant picking up silverware.
08:10Without a doubt.
08:19There's Miller.
08:22He's finally beginning to show what he's capable of in the top flight.
08:27A bit of a slow burner for Calvin Miller, he had to go down the divisions.
08:35But it is incredible to think that four of that Falkirk, starting 11 tonight, were part of the team that
08:40won League One.
08:43Yeah, I mean, hugely impressed with the job that John McLean has done, you speak, but Calvin Miller has fought
08:48as much as he's getting the iPhone.
08:50For a gem, there's also capabilities and ability to revitalize, rejuvenate players, get the best out of them.
08:58Calvin Miller being the prime example of that.
09:04Broggio on the right for Falkirk on loan from Aston Villa.
09:12Didn't have to tweak too much in the January winter transfer window, did with Lenny.
09:30Ashley Maynard Brewer, who's coming to Dundee United, there was immediately installed as number one.
09:39Through a few goalkeepers this season, Dave Richards, Kucherenko before him.
09:44James was hinting at earlier.
10:05Scott Bain there will be hoping to get back into that Scotland squad for the friendlies coming up at the
10:12end of the month.
10:47There's a decent take by Max Waters that, brings the ball back for United, that's Karistes, it's called Chevy over
11:02on the right side of the United defence quite often, he's put back there, he's primarily a midfielder, I've seen
11:09him wing back, he's played centre back, as Will Ferri picks up.
11:14Levi Henderson.
11:25He's gone down, there's no foul.
11:28Oh, Tate.
11:36In a sense they're just kind of feeling each other out at the moment.
11:39Yeah, as you would expect, I mean, spoken about how good the games have been against each other in the
11:44league, but this is a cup, it's winner takes all, so it's understandable.
11:49Clearly, you know, Falker received plenty of politics this season for how they play, they're a tough team to play
11:54against, they play really good football, exciting, they've got energy, I don't understand, doesn't United?
11:59They're trying to figure them out early on, trying to exploit that space in behind.
12:11He hits back to McCann, that's away by Stevenson, Miss Philip Lysa, he's been excellent recently, one of the real
12:20standout performers.
12:24Brogill, Spencer, and the header is in, Barney Stewart!
12:35Right in front to the United supporters, and this dream season for him personally could lead to a dream season
12:45for Falker Football Club!
12:49Nah, he's a man on form, Barney Stewart, another one with an unbelievable story, and he's getting the goals you
12:57want, your striker to score now.
12:59It's a good play from Falker, Pacey working the wide area, Brad Spencer, gets a good position to take the
13:05shot away, going for that far corner,
13:08just pushing it away, can't get enough on it, Barney Stewart, alert, nice composed finish.
13:17And I like it because he's not desperate to get in the middle, he's peeling off into space to allow,
13:22potentially,
13:23for the cross to the back post, or the shot back across the goalkeeper, into a position where they can
13:28affect it.
13:31Well it's the two scorers from the last round combining in the end, they are the Falker supporters chanting Barney
13:38Army!
13:40As Barney Stewart scores his seventh Falker goal of the season, and when you add that to the eight he
13:46scored for Dunfermline,
13:48in the first half of the campaign, a man who could have been a tennis player, a rugby player, a
13:54Gaelic football player!
13:55He's scoring goals for Falker and trying to push them towards a place in the semis and return to Hampden
14:04Park.
14:05Yeah, well he's chosen well, because he's clearly very good at football, and it's another one with an unbelievable story.
14:12Barney Stewart just keeps getting better and better, credit to him and John McGlynn, first of all for spotting him.
14:18And secondly, to get performing at the levels he's performing, coming into Falker, you could see he had the attributes,
14:25he was raw,
14:26you know, his workmate was excellent but just had to learn the position well, seems to be, you know, clearing
14:33what he's doing now.
14:34It's here with the challenge, as he stops Brodjil.
14:43And switch out to Ferry, can United hit back quickly?
15:02The United players will probably enjoy playing on the artificial surface tonight, given the state of the Tannadice pitch at
15:14the moment.
15:22They find themselves behind.
15:27There's a Will Ferry special, headed away by Henderson.
15:32It's picked up by Pan Kamara.
15:37It's a comfortable one for Bain.
15:41Great start for Falker though, isn't it?
15:43Absolutely.
15:45Just speaking about how they're trying to figure each other out.
15:48Falker getting wide, patient.
15:51Brad Spencer probably, from the United point of view, too much space to get the shot away.
15:57Certainly for Barney Stewart being unmarked to head into an empty net.
16:01A bit of sympathy for Brodjil here, he was being pulled back initially, it's gone against him.
16:09Yeah, that's a good little turn, using his body just to back in, Brodjil.
16:14As you can see, he's getting pulled at his sofa, Chris does, but he's pulled him back before.
16:20He's got one set in the face.
16:22He's got one set in the face.
16:36All comes to nothing in the end.
16:39Chevy's header.
16:42Samsford worked it back.
16:43It's Graham's ball.
16:46Clear by Lisa.
17:01First thing these two have met in the tournament since 1966.
17:10That's 67, they played 66 and 67 and haven't met since.
17:16First one, Falker managed to draw up, Tanadice lost the Brockville replay.
17:21United went on to lose 5-0 to Aberdeen in the next round.
17:24The only other meeting came, as I say, the year after.
17:281-0 United win.
17:40Trapanovski, by the skipper Donaldson.
17:45He was at Dundee United at a particularly bad time as they were relegated in 2016.
17:58During United still in the championship, these two went head-to-head plenty.
18:03There was a dramatic play-off which United edged.
18:09Play-off semis.
18:18Calvin Miller.
18:22There's Brogiot.
18:24This is promising for Falker.
18:28Shot the turn from Stewart's blocked.
18:31United have to be careful here.
18:34He blocks.
18:38And Strapanovski.
18:44Chevy.
18:47Camara.
18:48Now Sapsford.
18:51One end to the other right now.
18:52Sapsford is a nicked off him.
19:00Stewart.
19:09just passed the ball about with such purpose and poise
19:12so confident
19:13they do and they get a lot of podders for it
19:15but the work rate is exceptional as well
19:17trying to stop the space for Dunne United to get through
19:20putting pressure on
19:21making it very difficult
19:25slip by Henderson
19:30Lucas Stevenson
19:32taking on McCann
19:37goal kick only
19:40that's great defending
19:42he's another one
19:42Leon McCann
19:43he's been revitalised
19:45under John McGlynn
19:45probably doesn't get the plaudits
19:47because of the attacking players in the team
19:49but certainly
19:51need to step up again
19:53to the Premiership
19:54showing exactly what he can do
19:59real mainstays
20:00McCann
20:00Henderson
20:01Donaldson
20:02Miller
20:02Yates
20:06Brad Spencer
20:13many people felt that they might struggle
20:16given John McGlynn retained faith with
20:19those guys who
20:21helped them come up from League One two years ago
20:23not even two years ago
20:25and he's supplemented them with more experienced players who have played at the higher level
20:30and I suppose many of those who were part of the League One squad had experience of playing at the
20:35top level and at big clubs as well
20:38another big club in Falkirk who for too long were sitting in the doldrums
20:44after that relegation after that relegation on the final day
20:46in Kilmarnock in 2010
20:51a lot of soul searching went on at this football club during the ensuing years
20:57until they bounced back
20:59in the last season's thrilling championship victory
21:06who knows what the ceiling is nowadays
21:09let's see what's going on in the Scottish Premiership just now
21:13there's Ferry
21:14it's a good ball as well
21:17flicked away by McCann
21:20it's a great cross
21:21brilliant
21:22it's a great cross
21:23from Ferry
21:25flick on from Waters
21:27and he's taking a sore one
21:28Liam Henderson
21:28but he just does enough
21:30to stop Sapser
21:32from getting a clear header
21:33a free header at it
21:34just a little shift
21:36if you go with the flick on
21:38he does take a sore one
21:39but
21:41I mean it's not a foul
21:42Sapser's every right to go for it
21:44he's aggressive
21:44but Henderson
21:45just doing enough
21:46to stop him getting that free header
21:49in terms of troubling Scott Bain
22:04and again
22:05by Ferry
22:07it's Yates I think on his head to that
22:11and it comes again
22:12that's an awkward one for
22:13Henderson
22:14who's just
22:15dust himself down after the
22:17collision
22:20I could have gone horribly wrong for him
22:22he's running in there
22:23looks like he's going to
22:24kick it towards his goal
22:26very unconventional
22:27to say the least
22:28but
22:29gets the job done
22:32there is fire tonight
22:33incidentally
22:35there is a three out of four
22:37of the quarters
22:38the only exception
22:39it's done Fernland tomorrow night
22:41Ferry's corner
22:42beaten away by Bain
22:44and he has a go
22:50Bain right behind that
22:54there's a card coming here
22:56it's
22:57Chevy
22:58Scott Bain's trying to play the early kick
23:00Calvin Miller made the run
23:01Barney Stewart
23:02made the run
23:03he's going to try
23:04and release it early
23:05Chevy
23:06just jumps in front
23:07stops him
23:08automatic booking for that
23:14Scotland have goalkeeping problems again
23:17for these friendlies
23:18against Japan and Ivory Coast
23:19at the end of the month
23:20Scott Bain come into the reckoning
23:22do you think?
23:22yeah he has to
23:23I think that
23:23you know
23:24it's the reason Scott Bain
23:25decided to leave Celtic
23:26and go play
23:27week in week out
23:29certainly
23:30his performances
23:30I mean we sing the praises
23:32of Falker
23:32and rightly so
23:33Scott Bain
23:34has certainly been
23:35a big part of that as well
23:39ten clean sheets
23:40in his
23:4033 appearances
23:49up and under
23:50came from Dylan Tate
23:51there
23:52he's got Falker
23:53up the pitch
23:56there's McCann
24:01another to Tate
24:09Spencer back out of
24:10McCann
24:11wicked ball
24:12and it's 2-0
24:14and Finn Yates
24:18has proved Falker
24:20in a wonderful position
24:21to get to the semis
24:242-0 up
24:2520 play
24:27wow
24:27what a cross this is
24:29from Leon McCann
24:30I mean we sing these praises
24:32defensively
24:32against the strong
24:34Lucas Stevenson
24:35but this cross
24:36coming in
24:36is outstanding
24:38the time they run
24:39from Yates
24:40and the header
24:41but it's all about the cross
24:43I mean they're so patient
24:44look at that delivery
24:45right over the top
24:46of Chevette
24:47in front of Graham
24:48Yates just ghosts in
24:50little glance in header
24:51it's a magnificent goal
24:56second goal of the season
24:59and how valuable that could be
25:04for Finn Yates
25:06and for Falkirk
25:12and what a time they are having
25:21been in the semis quite recently
25:22Falkirk
25:232023
25:23when they were beaten
25:25by Cali Thistle
25:27third tier side
25:30but they are going to be
25:31a clear and present danger
25:34for anyone that's left
25:35in this tournament
25:36and Dundee United
25:38have got a whole heap
25:39of work to do here
25:40yeah they have
25:41I mean Falkirk
25:41have started the game
25:42as we expected
25:44with the ball
25:45with control
25:46aggressive when they're
25:47pressing
25:47to win it back
25:48trying to limit the space
25:49for Dundee United
25:50which they have done
25:52and then they're showing
25:53real quality
25:54I mean that cross again
25:55from McCann
25:56you always look at the goal scorer
25:58but that is
25:59that is an unbelievable cross
26:01from McCann
26:03and you can see
26:04the tails are up Falkirk
26:05you can see that anyway
26:06from the start of the game
26:09a little slip there
26:10from Ferry
26:11Falkirk could be in again
26:12here
26:12it's Miller
26:13it's a really important challenge
26:15it's a good one as well
26:16Maggi
26:19as Waters chases
26:25motors ball in
26:26away by Donaldson
26:29near Stevenson
26:33away by Yates
26:34who did play
26:35in that semi-final
26:36in 23
26:38this did Henderson
26:40Donaldson
26:40and McCann
26:42Stephen McGinn
26:43who's assisting
26:44John McGlynn
26:45was also on the pitch
26:46that afternoon
26:47at the National Stadium
27:04well United must be
27:05absolutely stunned
27:06yeah
27:07I mean
27:07they would have known
27:08the task ahead of them
27:09but
27:09spoke about the results
27:11and performances
27:12between these two
27:13throughout the season
27:14especially here
27:17but Falkirk
27:18speaking about them
27:19pressing going forward
27:20they always seem to find
27:21that extra man
27:22and when they
27:22when the ball goes forward
27:24for Dundee United
27:24it's a Falkirk player
27:25that's getting in the way
27:26then
27:27you look at the speed
27:27they're going forward
27:28at here
27:29and there just seems to be
27:31a spare man
27:31the Colt Donaldson's
27:32trying to join the attack
27:33here
27:33I mean
27:33they're winning 2-0
27:45you look at the difference
27:46when you look at the difference
27:46Dundee United have won it back
27:47and it's side to side
27:48it's in front of Falkirk
27:49they're not able to find
27:50those gaps
27:51maybe not willing
27:52to play that
27:53that pass
27:54that risky pass
28:1057 was the last time
28:12Falkirk got their hands
28:13on the Scottish Cup
28:15under Englishman
28:16Reg Smith
28:23he did a replay
28:24to beat Kilmarnock that year
28:32Bayern's legend
28:32Dundee Man
28:33amongst the scorers
28:35in front of
28:35almost 80,000
28:37in hand
28:41I've seen
28:42Trapanovski's down
28:43out of your picture
28:44just now
28:44struggling for United
28:45as this goes from bad
28:47to worse for them
28:49here's Calvin Miller
28:50Falkirk are going to
28:51play on here
28:54United down to 10
28:55as the cross comes in
28:57and
28:57Manor Brewer
28:58and a fingertip to that
29:02and that's gone behind
29:04for the corner
29:05that's another dangerous
29:06cross from Lillard McCann
29:09probably not what he's
29:10intending
29:10to put Manor Brewer
29:12in as much trouble
29:13as he did
29:13scramble in there
29:14not taking the opportunity
29:16Trapanovski
29:17you can see him here
29:17he just steps
29:19on his right foot
29:21to try and get down
29:22the passing lane
29:24Scott Baines
29:25forward pass
29:27I don't know if his
29:28foot's just got planted
29:29but
29:30you can see straight away
29:31he was in
29:32all sorts of trouble
29:34I always fear the most
29:36when that happens
29:42Jim Goodwin I think
29:43thought that tonight's
29:44match would be
29:46along similar lines
29:47to the two meetings
29:48here
29:482-2 draw
29:493-2 United win
29:51so far
29:52it's been more like
29:53the game at
29:54Tannadice
29:54which Falkirk
29:55won 3-0
30:07Trapanovski's in
30:08trouble
30:09yeah he is
30:10I mean you can see it
30:10straight away
30:11and it's
30:11because there's no one
30:13near him
30:13and you can see
30:15that it's one where
30:16when he twists
30:17he feels it
30:18straight away
30:20I mean it's not
30:21going to be planned
30:21so far
30:22in terms of the game
30:24and the scoreline
30:24for Jim Goodwin
30:25but they wouldn't
30:26want to have been
30:26forced into an early
30:27change either
30:31they're being forced
30:32into the change
30:33and Julius Iskissen
30:35who scored the
30:36winning goal here
30:37in that 3-2 win
30:40is going to come on
30:41for Trapanovski
30:44arrive at the United
30:45after three seasons
30:46with Haugesund
30:47in Norway
30:47the Dane
30:52who did win
30:54the Danish Cup
30:55in his homeland
30:57and it's Sunday
30:58you skip
31:05Falkirk
31:05on the offensive
31:06again here
31:08Miller's ball
31:11it's going to be
31:12a corner
31:13from the United
31:14with a free kick
31:15there
31:16trying to walk
31:16one off the
31:17training ground
31:17and Calvin Miller
31:20getting himself
31:21free
31:21aiming for that
31:23far post
31:23but
31:24could quite get
31:25there
31:25and
31:27that's a big
31:28decision
31:33Benbrogio
31:34Benbrogio
31:34is over it
31:40Spencer
31:42went away by
31:44Chevy
31:49yeah they're
31:49they're just trying to
31:50change the angle
31:50yeah they're just trying to change the angle
31:50Falkirk
31:51you can see
31:51some big physical players
31:54just trying to move them around
31:56move the ball
31:57maybe
31:58see if one of the
32:00main attackers
32:01takes her eye off it
32:02takes her eye off the man
32:03create that little bit of space
32:34some good
32:35whether it comes down the right hand side
32:37down the left
32:38through the middle
32:39they always seem to have a spare man
32:40it's another dangerous cross from Leon McCann
32:44it's a foul on Dylan Tate
32:49free kick as good as a corner out in this near side
32:54see Kereshtes
32:55just keeps the pressure on
32:59and then
33:00start getting desperate
33:01Kereshtes
33:02I don't think he can win it
33:04first of all
33:04secondly
33:05he doesn't need to go make it
33:06he doesn't need to make the challenge
33:07he's got nowhere to go
33:16in from Spencer
33:18Brewer does enough
33:22there's going to have to be an almighty sea change
33:25if Dundee United
33:25Scottish Cup dream is still to be alive
33:27by the end of this one tonight
33:30undoubtedly Liam
33:32Falkirk started really well of course
33:33with the scoreline
33:34but just in the play
33:35you can see the energy
33:36speed in that pass
33:37I keep saying it
33:38it feels like they've got an extra man at times
33:50you'll feel absolutely nobody
33:52has left in this tournament
33:54the team of course knocked
33:55the premiership leaders hearts
33:57out of this tournament
33:58two rounds ago
34:00they've given Celtic
34:02particularly here
34:02they give Celtic a really good game
34:04and a match
34:05they lost 1-0
34:06but it was exceptionally harsh on them
34:09that night
34:10they of course had
34:12beaten Aberdeen
34:13a couple of times
34:14beaten Hebs
34:15thrashed Hebs
34:17they won't be scared of anything
34:19that's left in this tournament
34:20if they can get the job done here
34:21absolutely
34:22I mean
34:22I think you can see that
34:24in general
34:25in the league form
34:26that they fear no one
34:27they don't really
34:28they don't change
34:29they don't go away from what they're good at
34:31yes they can make
34:32you know
34:32they can adapt
34:33and come up with ways to exploit
34:36teams
34:36but they don't change
34:37they don't get away from
34:38what they are
34:39they're absolutely
34:41they're never right
34:42not to fear anyone
34:45a couple of draws against Rangers as well
34:49so
34:49it's all good
34:50for Falker
34:52United there in a hole
34:56in a whole heap of trouble
35:04given where they are in the league
35:06their season
35:07comes down to tonight really
35:10two down
35:13yeah there's going to have to be a big improvement
35:15in how they've performed
35:19there's a chance potentially for Waters
35:21if we can get the better of Donaldson
35:24just to hold it up
35:26there's Ferry
35:28they need the next goal
35:33Falker just strangling any
35:36Dundee United attack
35:37and look at that
35:38you can hear the United fans
35:39the reaction
35:40from their supporters
35:41with the
35:41they're having to play negative passes
35:44because Falker
35:44give everyone behind the ball
35:45as the cross comes in
35:48Stevenson
35:48but Bain holds on
35:49yeah I mean
35:50when the ball gets through to Waters
35:53Donaldson's on his left hand side
35:54I think he just needs to hold him off
35:56let that come through him
35:57and drive towards goal
35:59as soon as he turns back
36:00you see the recovery of the Falker players
36:02getting back
36:03and then all of a sudden
36:04they've gone from
36:04which could have been a shot of goal
36:06to a touch for the centre back
36:08and a half way line
36:08great ball by Broggio for Miller
36:11and our Brewer holds on
36:17he's been in post at Tanner Ice
36:19for three years now
36:20Jim Goodwin
36:22there have been
36:23high points
36:25along the way
36:26there have been
36:26tough moments
36:28took over too late
36:29three years ago
36:30to prevent another relegation
36:32a couple of them
36:33in the last decade
36:49Sapsford
36:49there's no one in the middle of the head
36:51there's no one there
36:52I think Waters needs to go and bust to get in
36:55but Sapsford has a little look
36:57you can see there's no one there
36:58and I know I've just
36:59been critical of Waters
37:00and knocking through
37:01and getting the shot away
37:02driving forward
37:03but he's in the middle of the goal
37:04I think Sapsford has to
37:05make a better choice there
37:15right here's what's to come
37:17off the ball in Sports Sound
37:18tomorrow
37:19Graeme Souness
37:20joining Stuart and Tamman
37:22off the ball
37:22from 12 on BBC Radio Scotland
37:25Sports Sound has
37:26coverage of all the action
37:28of course
37:28including
37:30that rearranged premiership match
37:32in Dundee
37:32and title chasing
37:34Motherwell
37:35Jess McFadden
37:37very excited at the moment
37:38because of that
37:39Women's World Cup qualifier
37:41Scotland against Luxembourg
37:42on air
37:43for 15 BBC Alapa
37:48and Sports Sound is on
37:49all the way through
37:53including coverage of that
37:55Dunfermline Athletic
37:56Aberdeen quarterfinal
37:57on the other side of the
37:59Kincardin Bridge
38:00from here in the kingdom
38:037.30 kickoff
38:05as the holders
38:07go to Fife
38:17I mean even at this point
38:1910 minutes left
38:20in the first half
38:2011 10 minutes
38:21plus stoppages
38:23the way this game's
38:24going right now
38:25it's very difficult
38:27for the United fans
38:28to see a way back
38:29and they're
38:29the ones who are here
38:30and they're here
38:31in terrific numbers
38:32behind Maynard Brewer's goal
38:34seen it go into
38:36that goal
38:37a couple of times
38:37in this first half
38:38difficult for them
38:40to get any kind of
38:41optimism that they can
38:42turn this around
38:42yeah I mean
38:43you know that's
38:45twofold
38:46the performance of
38:47Falkirk
38:47and the energy
38:48and they're showing
38:49the quality they're showing
38:50but also the lack of
38:51threat
38:52and probably urgency
38:54from the team
38:55again I'm going to highlight
38:57Max Water's going through
38:58chance to roll
38:59Cole Donaldson
39:00get his shot away
39:01drive into the box
39:02and turns back the way
39:04they're not seeing enough
39:05I think that
39:05they've gone direct
39:07which I don't mind
39:08and at times
39:09they've looked to
39:09maybe get in the space
39:11Scott Ben
39:12just getting involved there
39:14a wee Cruyff turn
39:15yeah I mean
39:17there's another one
39:19but that's why
39:20it's difficult
39:20because you're talking
39:22about a good Falkirk side
39:22and they receive
39:24all the points
39:24they get
39:25because of how they play
39:26but they've turned up
39:27they're playing
39:28they're enjoying themselves
39:29they're playing
39:30they have freedom
39:32Dundee United
39:32just can't get near them
39:34and they're on the showboat
39:36as well
39:36as you saw
39:37from their own goalkeeper
39:38there
39:44Cray Gordon's an injury
39:45doubt for that
39:47friendly double header
39:48World Cup warm-up
39:49matches at the end
39:49of the month
39:50Angus Gunn
39:51is clearly struggling
39:52for game time
39:53in Nottingham Forest
39:56as Bain come into the thinking
40:05last squad
40:06Scott Bain
40:07so
40:07you shall see
40:10United looking for a break
40:11it's come to Will Ferry
40:13gets it on to his right
40:15on the left
40:18yeah he's got to hit it from me
40:19I think there is a little gap
40:20we've got a good angle here
40:21where he can just fire that
40:23towards the back post
40:25this one from Tate
40:28Stewart can't make it stick
40:35there's a difference
40:36Falkett win it back
40:38they're sprinting forward
40:39numbers to go
40:40and put Dundee United
40:42under pressure
40:42get round the edge of the box
40:44Ferry's got a chance there
40:45to drive forward
40:46it's a little amble
40:47then a turn back
40:48try and work it out
40:48to the other side
40:49and now all of a sudden
40:50Falkett have everyone
40:51behind the ball
40:52in a good shape
40:56Sadsford
40:58it's just not happening
41:27folk are hoping to get into the earth
41:29thirteenth Scottish Cup final, semi-final of the final as well.
41:37Becoming more and more realistic with every passing second in this quarter.
41:58It's not just the job, but the flag's up anyway.
42:06That's Neil Lundgren from Falco, so patient, not along the back.
42:10Dundee United, no interest in pressing them, trying to win the ball back.
42:14Alissa makes a run wide, inside, sorry, Finn Yates takes his position up,
42:19which then allows that pass to be played.
42:21It goes slightly early, but the rotation's very good to create the space.
42:27And that's the danger.
42:28Dundee United could say, yeah, the ball's with centre-backs and sit in a good shape
42:32and try and make it difficult to play through.
42:35Falco aren't all about just trying to play through for the sake of it.
42:38They will exploit the space.
42:40As you can see there, time's running a little bit better.
43:05They just haven't got to get up to the game with Dundee United.
43:07Whether it be putting under pressure, getting close to Falco when they have the ball,
43:12and the use of the balls being poor.
43:14You can understand trying to miss out that press from Falco because they are so good at it.
43:19But the quality of the pass, sometimes the decision-making just hasn't been there.
43:23They haven't got going at all.
43:38Ferry.
43:53Ferry.
43:55Ferry.
44:03Ferry.
44:08Ferry.
44:09Ferry.
44:16Nicked back, here's Kamara, Waters, Kamara gives that away, didn't I go, Agi, but a
44:31real misunderstanding, surrender possession again, it's decision-making again, he's got
44:36a chance to play that forward, Kamara, he opts to go side, again allows a recovery for Falkirk
44:43and then they capitalise on the slack pass, United can pass Air United in the fourth round
45:02before edging past Spartans, the red card to Yohu made that more difficult than it probably
45:14would have been otherwise, too many different ties for Falkirk, both of which went to extra
45:23time, draw with hearts, went through on penalties, then needed extra time again against Steny,
45:37he's got it through, Calvin Miller, oh and that's just gone past off his own man Stevenson, Maynard
45:44Brewer is mightily relieved that that touch has gone for a corner rather than a third Falkirk
45:49goal, yeah but if he doesn't, if he doesn't get back Stevenson, Calvin Miller's no doubt
45:54putting his side further ahead, it's a great recovery and it's desperation, and it's again
46:00finding that spare man for Falkirk, they are getting dragged all over the place by Falkirk.
46:09There's his stance, there's going to be a minimum of two minutes added on at the end of this,
46:14Miller's ball, it wasn't far away Chevy, there's enough, to the air from Yitz,
46:29the United supporters are furious at what's being served up, to get a goal back before the interval,
46:38and could make all the difference in the world.
46:45Sabsford's down next, in a foul, there's Kamara, punched off him by Miller but he's penalised,
46:57Sabsford's backing his feet, Stevenson,
47:07right to left to Kamara to Kerestes.
47:15Jehí looking for Ferry.
47:28I wonder if that was a corner and a throw down here, it will be a corner, and Eskison
47:34has come out to take it, it's better, it's a forward pass, it's a risky one, forcing
47:39Falkert to run back the way and defend, it's the sub to take it, it's poor, the Chevy's
47:53tried his best to get on to the end of that, but hasn't really got it into an area that's
47:59going to hurt Falkert, we haven't been able to hurt Falkert from an open plate, you're
48:04expecting then, you know when you're up against it, can you cause problems from the
48:09set plays, and it's a poor delivery, will Jim Goodwin be angry when he goes in to speak
48:28to his players at the interval here? Yeah, I would imagine so, I think that they've just
48:33haven't been able to take part in the game, Falkert have dominated the first half, I wonder
48:38if he's thinking about a change of shape, if he's sitting in that back three, at times
48:43a cut in between, stepping in and going trying to be aggressive, which then leaves space,
48:48they haven't really had any control in the game.
48:53Henderson was under pressure from Satchford, dealt with it well enough, here's Miller,
48:59there, Ben Yates goes down, no foul, right we're into those two minutes, at the end of the
49:17first half, there's Ferry, Waters probably enjoying their best period in the match, Dundee United,
49:41Ferry's cross, away by Donaldson,
49:47got a chance to get back onto this Will Ferry, opportunity here, and a goal,
49:55Eskysen, in first half stoppage time, and Dundee United are right back in it.
50:05Well, your looks are a bit more, Dundee United, they've got a goal out of nothing, but it's
50:10about being persistent, it's about being brave and putting forward, and a good bit of quality
50:16from Will Ferry, and it's no surprise, getting into a great area, little cut back, gets the
50:21head up, it's at Scott Bain, need to see from here whether, I feel he should be keeping that
50:27out of the back of the net, probably, but it's a powerful side foot, from Eskysen, and that
50:37is an absolute lifeline for Dundee United.
50:41Well, that can make all the difference, said that a few minutes ago, if they could score
50:47before half time, gives them all kinds of renewed hope that look to have been extinguished.
50:52Absolutely, I mean, it just totally changes it for Dundee United, because they've been
50:57so far off it, it's frightening, Falkirk will feel they could and should be further ahead,
51:03they've been dominant, but Dundee United somehow have got themselves back in the game.
51:09Well, it's been a quite incredible season, across the board, and another chapter of it
51:18is being scribed here tonight, Stewart and Yates at Falkirk seemingly on easy straight,
51:25until the substitute Eskysen, who came on for an injured Trapanovsky, fired past Bain,
51:32who couldn't keep it out, and Dundee United are back in the tie, and I was asking James if
51:39Jim Goodwin would be angry with his players at half time, he might well still be, however,
51:45it might be slightly more diluted, James, than it might have been, and Eskysen not giving
51:51Dundee United that hope.
51:53Yeah, he'll still be angry, he'll still demand a lot more from his players, he may well still
51:57look to adjust the shape, but it certainly helps him to reinforce the message that they
52:03haven't turned up, they haven't performed this first half, Falkirk have been great, but
52:08they're still well in it, and what a time to score the goal, just leading into half time,
52:13gives them that hope that they can go and keep themselves in this competition.
52:21Well, it's always one of the weekends to look out for in the Scottish football calendar,
52:27quarterfinal weekend in the Scottish Cup, halfway through the first of the ties, it is Falkirk
52:32two, Dundee United one.
