00:06Hello everyone, five days to go until the party starts in Mexico City's footballing cathedral,
00:13the legendary Estadio Azteca, and just a week now until what's felt like the longest of waits for Scotland
00:19as they prepare to lock horns with a Haiti side that seem to be sharpening Scottish focus
00:24with each passing performance that they've produced.
00:32After a few days in the Florida sunshine, Steve Clark's men are in the Newark suburb of Harrison, New Jersey,
00:39for one final tune-up.

08:36Alongside the skipper at the heart of the Bolivian defence, Luis Hakeen.
08:45Well defended by Grant Hanley.
08:50When you think back to qualifying, Grant Hanley's performance in Copenhagen was so important.
08:59Robertson.
09:04There's a foul by the new Spurs full-back.
09:09Yeah, I mean, I think when you look at the ball there, it goes back to gun.
09:13It looks like Scotland are under a bit of pressure, but they play it forward.
09:16Shankman wins a flick on, Adams is on the end of it.
09:18And that's the benefit of playing with the two strikers,
09:20because you can get one that goes and, you know, challenges for the aerial ball.
09:24The other one can then put themselves in a position to take that pressure off,
09:28and it doesn't come to anything down that left-hand side with Andy Robertson.
09:32But it is, you know, a benefit of having the two strikers.
09:40We were watching bits of the Haiti game last night.
09:42They were playing Peru, they lost 2-1, led all the way through till ten minutes to play.
09:48The Peruvians won it.
09:49It was very difficult to see any football on a TV in New York last night,
09:54given it's all about the basketball here just now.
09:58As the Knicks manage to get 2-0 up in the series,
10:05beating San Antonio and they're at home on Monday at Madison Square Garden,
10:09so that'll be quite the night in the Big Apple.
10:13Ball swung in there by Fernandes and comes to nothing.
10:20Yeah, I mean, that's a deep cross, Christie's in a good position,
10:23and that's what's going to have to happen.
10:25You're playing a 4-4-2, you have to make sure,
10:28particularly in the wider areas, Ganondorf and Christie,
10:30that they've switched on to balls coming in at the other side,
10:33make sure you're nice and narrow, tucked in in these defensive positions.
10:39And these are things that Steve Clark will be looking at
10:41with the game against Haiti in mind.
10:45If you're going to go with two strikers,
10:46then you need to make sure that every part of that team works,
10:49because as much as we look at the threat going forward,
10:52you also have to be aware of what happens behind them,
10:55and Shanklin were a nice little flick on once again.
10:58Yeah, you have to get them both involved in the game,
11:00otherwise you're at least one man down, aren't you?
11:02Yeah, but Lawrence Shanklin knows exactly where to be, to go,
11:06and affect the ball, and it is important, it sounds really simple,
11:10but if you can see that your team are under pressure,
11:11you need to be in a position to affect it, where you're that out ball,
11:15and we know he's so intelligent, he's so good at that.
11:18Shea Adams, interesting to see how that link-up is with those two.
11:25Robertson, Christie, Robertson's there, options waiting,
11:30and Shanklin was one of them!
11:35He's at it again!
11:38He could be about to become the main man for this team!
11:44And Scotland in front in Harrison!
11:47Inside five minutes!
11:50They are cooking in the heat!
11:53And it's a brilliant goal.
11:55You just spoke about the benefits of having the two strikers,
11:57but the play from Robertson and Christie is excellent.
12:00Shea Adams is the one that goes and occupies the front post area,
12:02look at Shanklin, he loves hanging out of that back post.
12:06There's a lovely composed header into the top corner.
12:12Goalkeeper, absolutely no chance, but the link-up plays excellent.
12:15And Andy Robertson, you can't take away from the cross,
12:17he knows that he's at the byline, he knows that has to have a chip,
12:21stand-up ball to the back post, and Shanklin near the head at home.
12:26He's taken his international tally from four to seven in these warm-up fixtures,
12:33and counting.
12:36It's a great start for Steve Clarke.
12:39And here come Bolivia looking for an immediate riposte with Villamil.
12:43Leaves it for Miguelito.
12:46Ganondolk was in the road, and now he's on his bike.
12:53Adams ahead of him, others arriving now.
12:55It is Adams, Robertson to his left.
12:58Shimmy's on to his right.
13:01Spilled there by Guillermo Viscara, the Bolivia keeper.
13:06There are promising signs though in the infancy of this game.
13:09Yeah, very good, Ganondolk set off down the right-hand side.
13:12Direct running, straight out defenders.
13:14I thought that Shea Adams could have played it to Andy Robertson,
13:17but he uses him as a decoy, gets the space,
13:19and gets his shot away, hits the target.
13:21So, not too much criticism on that front.
13:25Shanklin again setting Ganondolk away down the right-hand side.
13:42It's Tomei, playing it short to Ribera.
13:49Ribera, the main striker for Bolivia tonight, making his debut.
13:52Very inexperienced at this level though.
13:56Four and thirteen matches for his youth team this season.
14:01He plays in Argentina.
14:04Tilaris de Cordoba, not a senior football player really, as yet.
14:16He will be warming up Algeria in Kansas City.
14:23As the Algerians prepare for a fifth appearance at the World Cup Finals.
14:35Here's Hendry.
14:36Back from Christie.
14:43McTominay.
14:47Shanklin out to Ganondolk.
14:50Exactly where he wants it.
14:55The goalkeeper, Robertson.
15:06They've got the goal but also they've started the dry turn.
15:09That will be to the delight of the manager down there.
15:12Absolutely.
15:13Looking at the threat going forward.
15:15Picking and choosing the right moments and went up the tempo.
15:18And that was a really good cross from Ganondolk.
15:21The flag against Adams right now.
15:24Tom and it.
15:26It's Christie.
15:27Gets it back.
15:33Not a great effort but it's good play once again.
15:36Crisp passing.
15:38Just doesn't sit nice for Ryan Christie to get a clean connection on it.
15:43But these are the things that Steve Clark's looking at.
15:46You know the threat that you carry going forward.
15:48I think we've shown that.
15:49I know it's really early.
15:50Also having a bit of patience.
15:52Much has been made of the conditions and rightly so.
15:54It can't be 90 minutes to just go forward, forward, forward.
15:57There has to be an element of control in there.
16:00And there has been in the early stages of the game.
16:06Hickey and Ganondolk got caught in a fan call.
16:12Spots him foul there.
16:24Ganondolk protesting his innocence.
16:27He does just drop him.
16:29I think it's the correct decision.
16:35On their way to the finals in 1994.
16:38Bolivia became the first team.
16:40To ever beat Brazil.
16:43In Brazil in a qualifying match.
16:47Angus Gunn readied himself.
16:50For this Miguelito free kick.
16:58And that again against the Brazilians.
17:01Last year.
17:02It was a dreadful delivery.
17:04To Miguelito.
17:06And Scotland defence will be happy.
17:10And that continues.
17:21Generally when you look at the scheduling of the World Cup.
17:23The FIFA have.
17:25Deliberately scheduled the earlier kickoffs.
17:28With the exception of the opening match.
17:30Between Mexico and South Africa.
17:32In Mexico City.
17:33Generally.
17:33In the hotter states.
17:35The matches are in the evening.
17:37So the matches.
17:38Earlier on.
17:40Are in cooler climates.
17:41Or under domes.
17:48I'm pretty sure when Scotland go to Miami.
17:50To play Brazil.
17:50I'll still be.
17:52A bit on the toasty side.
17:54There's Miguelito.
17:56Winning the corner.
18:04There's Miguelito.
18:15Winning the corner.
18:17To Paniagua.
18:19Taking it short.
18:20To Miguelito.
18:29The goal.
18:29The goal.
18:30The ball doesn't threaten.
18:31Gun's goal.
18:33Boom, mate.
18:45Henry takes command of the situation
18:53and McTominay is away
18:55Christie can find him
18:56and there's way too much on it
19:00won't be thanking his team mate for that one
19:01after making the run in the first place
19:03yeah he's just thought
19:05absolutely no chance I'm chasing that
19:07unless he just over hit from Christie
19:09and that's the other dynamic
19:12of the team McTominay we're used to seeing
19:14advanced in support of a striker
19:16or off a side and being narrow
19:18he's playing in a deeper role
19:20but he will have licence to go at the right times
19:22as you see there
19:25only Rasmus Hoyland scored more for Napoli this season
19:28than Scott McTominay
19:30scored 14
19:39in terms Lautaro Martinez
19:41World Cup winner with Argentina
19:42was the top scorer in Serie A
19:46their way to the Scudetto
19:59Hakim out to Rocha
20:03who plays in Russia
20:04indeed the two fullbacks play for the same club
20:06than Akron Togliati
20:27handball there from Morales
20:28isn't surprising if I tried to
20:32just play on there
20:33you could see straight away with his reaction
20:34that he was well aware it hit his hand
20:43Angus Gunn getting the gloves tonight
20:45does that give us a pointer to next week?
20:48I think
20:48well he had to play
20:49you know Craig Gordon started against Curacao
20:51we've got three goalkeepers that don't play regularly
20:53so I'm not surprised that
20:56if Craig Gordon gets an odd last week
20:58that Angus Gunn gets an odd this week
20:59because
20:59they need to get some
21:01some games
21:03but
21:04it may well give us a pointer
21:05to what's happening
21:06next week
21:07against Haiti
21:08yeah
21:09precious little football
21:10they're all three goalkeepers in the squad
21:14for their club sides
21:16it's 220 minutes
21:17Craig Gordon managed
21:18Angus Gunn 45
21:19and that's in league matches
21:26one half of football for Gunn
21:29for Nottingham Forest this season
21:30he came on for Matt Sells
21:31in a 1-1 draw
21:32with Crystal Palace in February
21:36but both performed very well
21:37when they were asked
21:39you know for Scotland
21:40so
21:41I think with the experience
21:42that they have
21:43make sure they're ready
21:45whoever gets an odd
21:56Christie wanted the free kick
21:58he's got it
22:03inverted that penalty last week
22:06so he took his
22:08international tally
22:09to 10
22:13he's getting a 68 cap tonight
22:20talking about Kenny Dalglish's record
22:22been under threat from Andy Robertson
22:23could be a few others go past him
22:26Christie's ball in
22:27he's coming off the toe of Hanlick
22:29too high for both McTominay
22:32and Shankland
22:33whose goal separates the teams
22:34James
22:35it's another fine take
22:36classic Shankland really
22:37from any classic Shankland takes
22:39to be fair
22:40yeah
22:40but once again
22:42I think
22:43if you asked
22:44every single member
22:45of the Tartan army
22:46who they want to start up front
22:47for Scotland against Haiti
22:4990-95%
22:50would say Shankland
22:51yeah
22:51and understandably so
22:52because
22:53you know how lethal it is
22:55and his goals do speak for themselves
22:57but I think his all-round play is really good
22:58his intelligence
22:59to when to be
23:01you know
23:01the more advanced striker
23:02when you're dropping in
23:04even in terms of pressing
23:06I think you can see him always organising
23:08telling people where to go
23:09and that's
23:10you know
23:11key when you're pressing from the front
23:12you need players there
23:13that know what they're doing
23:15so
23:15yeah
23:16Shankland's certainly put himself in a position where
23:19it looks to me
23:20as if it's trying to find
23:21who's going to partner him
23:22if he's got a goal with a 4-4-2
23:25it looks like it's going to be Shankland
23:27and he and other
23:28and I think that's absolutely right
23:30because his eye for goal
23:31is second to none
23:32within the squad
23:3524 for club and country this season
23:40albeit
23:41new club for him
23:42next term
23:44swapping hearts for Rangers
23:54Bolivia
23:54yet to really threaten
23:55Angus Gunn
23:58as Efrain Morales picks up
24:02he was born in
24:03the States
24:04in Georgia
24:07he's giving it away to Christie
24:08but it's a poor touch
24:12he's just
24:13difficult to judge the bounce there
24:14Christie's expecting just to take that in his path
24:18letting him off the hook there
24:24the Scotland players have been
24:27playing on the Miami surface
24:29the inter-Miami surface
24:30which I think is
24:32the way they're talking there
24:34sounds like
24:34one of if not the best football pitches
24:37in the world
24:38at that training centre
24:39I guess if you've got Lionel Messi
24:44turning up
24:45every morning
24:46to perform on it
24:47you want the best
24:48yeah I was just about to say
24:49I wonder who influenced that decision
24:53but it helps you
24:54talking about preparation
24:55of course it helps you
24:56wanting the best facilities possible
24:59and also
24:59you know
25:00you heard Steve Clarke
25:01before the game
25:01speaking about how different
25:02the surface is here
25:05the players are
25:06knocking the ball about well
25:07looking comfortable on it
25:09it's not as if it's a terrible surface
25:11I have to say
25:11it still looks pretty good
25:16did you get a chance to walk on it earlier
25:18did you get a close up look at it
25:20yeah I did see it
25:21it was fine
25:21I didn't really go on it
25:22because
25:24I don't play anymore
25:25so
25:27I don't like the
25:29I don't know
25:29it just doesn't feel right
25:30if you're playing fine
25:31if you're not
25:32stay off the pitch
25:32Adams does well
25:33just he's not quite able to
25:35latch on
25:39managed a goal right at the end of the season
25:40Shea Adams for
25:42Torino
25:43in the Turin derby
25:44against Juventus
25:46eight goals in total
25:51for the campaign
25:52he's not always a regular starter
25:54for Torino
25:5519 in the league this season
25:58for Scotland's number 10
26:05there Shanklin
26:07just a
26:07little by Hakeem
26:17Shanklin for Adams
26:18oh that's a good effort as well
26:21he just whistles by
26:23he catches it so well
26:25see Adams I think
26:26when the ball's laid off to him
26:27McTominay made a run beyond
26:29little reverse potentially on
26:31but
26:31he catches it really well
26:33Adams
26:33just unfortunate to see it
26:36just goes
26:38agonisingly close
26:38by the post
26:58the summer's World Cup final
27:00taking place
27:00in this state
27:02the MetLife
27:04isn't too far from here
27:12this is a
27:15nice stadium as well
27:17home of the New York Red Bulls
27:1915 miles
27:20from Manhattan
27:21just a couple from New York
27:32Robertson in space
27:41good move for him
27:42to Spurs
27:42yeah I think that
27:44Spurs have obviously
27:45domestically in the league
27:46been disappointing
27:47in the last two seasons
27:49but they've got a
27:50coaching manager
27:51in his airbait
27:53that
27:53are you expectable
27:55that Spurs
27:56further up the table
27:57I think Keefe and Andy Robertson
28:02who's playing
28:03weekend week out
28:04Gannon Doak
28:06from Adams
28:07blocked by Shankland
28:14intentionally
28:23Irvin Vakka
28:30and Hakeem
28:31for Tome
28:37well won back by Ferguson
28:41shaggling out for Gannon Doak
28:48there's plenty in
28:49and around the box
28:50here
28:55she's flicked away
28:57from Shankland
28:58by Vakka
29:03Christy
29:03Shankland
29:04lovely touch
29:05for McTominay
29:062-0
29:13fantastic play
29:17and Scott McTominay's
29:1915th Scotland goal
29:21gives them a
29:222-0 lead
29:24in their final
29:25warm-up match
29:26yeah it's a great play
29:27I think nice and patient
29:29once again
29:29Gannon Doak
29:30down the right-hand side
29:32just overhits the cross
29:33ever so slightly
29:34look at this pass here
29:35and the lay-off
29:36from Shankland
29:37excellent
29:37and it's just outside
29:38McTominay
29:39does really well
29:39to catch it
29:41as well as he does
29:42I mean the goalkeeper
29:43will be disappointed
29:43he hasn't kept it out
29:44he's bouncing in front of him
29:45but the link-up playing
29:47and the strike is good
29:49Lauren Shankland
29:50once again
29:52involved
29:52as you get a little
29:54water break
29:59well his other
30:0014 goals
30:01all came in
30:01competitive matches
30:04Scott McTominay
30:08and it's
30:09touch fortuitous
30:10because Guillermo
30:11Vizcarra
30:11as James was saying
30:12will be disappointed
30:13that that's evaded him
30:16Scotland are in
30:17a fantastic position
30:18here now
30:20and what's been
30:21most impressive
30:22out there
30:23for me James
30:24is
30:25the way they've
30:26gone about it
30:26because
30:27I guess it can get
30:29in your head
30:29when you hear
30:30all this talk
30:31about the heat
30:31going up against
30:33South American
30:33opposition
30:34you've seen what
30:35Haiti are doing
30:36performance-wise
30:36I know they lost
30:37last night
30:38but they've performed
30:38very well in the game
30:40all of that can
30:41affect you
30:42but they've gone out
30:43there in a really
30:44professional manner
30:45and have found
30:45themselves in a 2-0 lead
30:47Yeah it can
30:48and I mean
30:48you're more than
30:49aware of the heat
30:50that you're going
30:51to be playing in
30:51but often
30:52as I found
30:54when I played myself
30:55it was never
30:56actually as bad
30:57as you thought
30:57it was going to be
30:58and you started
30:59to actually feel better
31:00look scoring
31:00early definitely helps
31:02and I think the fact
31:03that there's not
31:03a huge tempo
31:05to the game
31:07helps without a doubt
31:08but they have
31:09really coped
31:10to it very very well
31:11I think that
31:12the control
31:12in the game
31:13has been excellent
31:14at times
31:15when it's needed
31:16to be
31:16you know
31:17a higher tempo
31:18it's been there
31:18particularly going forward
31:20and yeah
31:21I think that
31:22they can be really
31:23pleased with the
31:24work so far
31:24I mean some of the
31:25some of the football
31:26has been really good
31:27a lot of control
31:28in the game
31:29mentioned Ben Gannan
31:30Dope
31:30I think his
31:32deliveries have been
31:33much better
31:35so
31:35it bodes well
31:37and Lawrence Shanklin
31:38getting himself a goal
31:40and an assist
31:41just showing exactly
31:42what he's capable of
31:44these cooling breaks
31:45as they're officially
31:47known as
31:47will last for three minutes
31:49you're going to have
31:50to get used to these
31:51did see them at
31:52Hamden last week
31:54there's going to be a lot
31:55to keep your eye on
31:56as well
31:57new rules
31:57coming into play
31:59there's going to be
32:01new VAR interventions
32:02across the competition
32:04there's going to be
32:06time limits
32:07on things like
32:08substitutions
32:08ten seconds for example
32:10five second restarts
32:12injured players
32:13have to leave the pitch
32:14for one minute
32:17no tactical timeouts
32:19for goalkeepers
32:19no covering of mouths
32:21in confrontational situations
32:25and a few other
32:28instances of
32:29VAR intervening now
32:31on things like
32:32incorrectly awarded corners
32:35attacking fouls
32:36it happened before
32:37play is started
32:38second yellow cards
32:39which I think is a
32:39massive one
32:40and mistaken identity
32:42on cards
32:43as well
32:44it all sounds
32:46on the face of it
32:47relatively positive
32:49VAR moving in the
32:49right direction
32:50yeah it does
32:51and hopefully
32:52it's done at a speed
32:54that keeps the game
32:56flowing
32:57certainly you mentioned
32:58the water break
32:59last week
32:59at Hamden
33:00it wasn't necessary
33:01in that occasion
33:02but it is in this occasion
33:03because the players
33:04have been desperate
33:04got off
33:05get a cold towel
33:07drink a cold water
33:12so
33:13play restarts
33:15from centre
33:15in Scotland
33:162-0
33:17to the good
33:20this is going
33:21swimmingly so far
33:29as ever with Scotland
33:30I wouldn't get used to it
33:33if they can
33:34go on from here
33:35maybe score another goal
33:36or two perhaps
33:37against a team
33:38that beat Brazil
33:38last year in qualifying
33:40for the World Cup
33:41a massive boost
33:43that would give them
33:43ahead of the Haiti game
33:44in particular
33:47which really feels
33:49like a non-negotiable
33:50it feels like
33:50they have to win
33:51that game
33:51and if they can
33:53scramble a point
33:54from Morocco
33:55or Brazil
33:56then they'd
33:57effectively be through
33:58four points
33:59will get you through
34:00three
34:00will get you through
34:01with a goal difference
34:03around about
34:04minus one
34:05minus two
34:06it's that Haiti game
34:07roaming into view
34:09now
34:10it's just gargantuan
34:12for the Scotland team
34:13yeah
34:14I think that
34:15you know
34:15for this
34:16for this game
34:17it's maintain the control
34:18if you get an extra
34:19goal or two
34:20fantastic
34:21but just maintain
34:22the levels of performance
34:23make sure you can
34:24control games
34:24see them out
34:26milk still off
34:27on that threat
34:28and manage the conditions
34:34this is Fernandes
34:35for Bolivia
34:40to Miguelito
34:46open up for him
34:47so he uses Tommy
34:49sits back
34:51five
34:52green and white
34:53in the box
34:55Tommy's effort
34:56that's the save
34:57from Gunn
34:58which was
35:00pretty comfortable
35:01but nonetheless
35:01he'll be happy
35:02with that
35:03absolutely
35:04he does really well
35:05he worked the space
35:05Tommy
35:06and he catches it
35:07well enough
35:08Gunn
35:09down to his left
35:10hand side
35:11clean enough strike
35:13comfortable save
35:15happy to get a touch
35:18have to be
35:19making a save
35:20in one
35:20as comfortable
35:21as that
35:45will be the biggest
35:47world cup ever
35:4848 teams
35:50taking part
35:51across 16
35:52host cities
35:54US, Canada
35:55and Mexico
35:59for a spell
36:01during the group
36:01stage
36:01there's going to be
36:03four games
36:04a day
36:09as Hickey
36:10manages to
36:11pop that
36:12back to Gunn
36:27real assuredness
36:28about this
36:28Scotland performance
36:29right now
36:32Dan and Doak
36:33is after it
36:34Adams is waiting
36:35for three
36:46well Scotland
36:47are on fire
36:48here
36:49then Harrison
36:53with the world cup
36:54just days away
36:56yeah I mean
36:57it's a lovely
36:58weighted pass
36:59for Gunn
37:00and Doak
37:00to run on
37:01he gets his head up
37:02final ball
37:03excellent
37:03for Shea Adams
37:04and it's a nice
37:05cool finish
37:07it's so strange
37:08to be standing
37:09here
37:10Scotland
37:10three goals up
37:11I have to say
37:12this early in the game
37:13but the performance
37:14has been excellent
37:15it really has
37:16shown a lot
37:17of different facets
37:18to the attack
37:19Garen Doak
37:20being at the heart
37:21of it once again
37:22and it's a lovely
37:24little pass
37:25into the path
37:26of Shea Adams
37:27to slot it home
37:31and this could not
37:32have been going
37:32any better
37:33Steve Clarke
37:34and his team
37:34yeah it's remarkable
37:3712th international
37:38goal for Shea Adams
37:43I think to try
37:44and temper
37:45the expectation
37:45that we can now
37:46go on and win
37:47the world cup
37:47Liam
37:47I have to say
37:48that Bolivia
37:50are obviously
37:51playing a post-season
37:53friendly
37:54in Scotland
37:54are preparing
37:55for the world cup
37:56so you have to
37:56factor that in
37:57as well
37:57but nonetheless
37:58absolutely fantastic
37:59so far
38:01yeah well so often
38:03in the last 28 years
38:05or even before
38:06they made the last
38:07two European
38:08championships
38:08Scotland
38:09where the warm-up
38:10opposition
38:11for teams going
38:12to the big show
38:14Scotland are putting
38:15on a big show
38:16here in New Jersey
38:41Bolivia looking for a
38:42response here
38:46not at the party
38:47Scotland are
38:49Ryan Christie
38:51pitch open up
38:52right in front of him
38:53and if he gets this
38:53on his left
38:57he scuffed at it
38:58and made it
38:59simple for Piscara
39:01yeah it's not the best
39:02effort but it's good
39:03play once again
39:04Christie cutting out
39:05the pass driving
39:06forward he has
39:07options and he
39:08manages to get his
39:09shot away it's not
39:09what he's looking for
39:10he's trying to bend
39:10that into the far
39:11post but he has
39:13options and that's
39:13another you know
39:15positive to look at
39:16you're winning the
39:17ball you're offering
39:18something on the
39:18counter-attack
39:19first it was Christie
39:20and Adams then he
39:21had two or three
39:22joining him and he
39:23had options there
39:25another good thing to
39:26see for Steve
39:27Clarke
39:51keen for
39:52Morales
40:00Scotland 3-0 up
40:02they kind of
40:03deserve to be
40:03absolutely
40:08Caniagua to the
40:10left for
40:11Villamil
40:15to the left
40:16Domi
40:17and Fernandes
40:19in the corner
40:21yeah I mean it's
40:23good you narrow up
40:24there's a team
40:25close those gaps so
40:26you're not played
40:26through force it
40:27into wide areas
40:28get out and stop
40:29the cross if you
40:30can't stop the cross
40:31then you're ready to
40:31go and defend the
40:32cross
40:34another example of
40:35this system in
40:36action
40:43go back to Domi
40:50flags up
40:51over there
40:56this is a
40:58big problem for
41:00the Bolivian coach
41:02Oscar Villegas
41:03failed to reach
41:05the finals
41:07well adrift
41:08they were in
41:10seventh spot
41:10they squeezed out
41:12Venezuela
41:13for the playoff
41:16they beat
41:17Suriname
41:18and CONCACAF
41:19nation but
41:22coming up short
41:23against Iraq
41:24that hit them
41:24hard
41:26the largest
41:27landlocked country
41:28in the southern
41:29hemisphere
41:31Bolivia
41:31they're a tough
41:32team to gauge
41:32how good they are
41:33because they're so
41:34good at home
41:35due to the
41:36conditions that
41:36they play in
41:37the altitude
41:37so they are
41:38a tough team
41:39to see exactly
41:40where they are
41:41you can look at
41:41where they finish
41:42and whether it's
41:43a bit higher
41:44you can say
41:44that's impressive
41:45but their home
41:45form is so good
41:46and it's so
41:47false if you like
41:48because of the
41:49altitude
41:49because they use
41:50it so well
41:51to their advantage
41:51it can be difficult
41:53but nonetheless
41:53you still have to
41:54play of the team
41:55that's in front of you
41:56and this has been
41:57up to this point
41:59a very very good
42:00performance from Scotland
42:02yellow card out
42:03for Fernandes
42:04there
42:05incidentally
42:07see wiped out
42:08Gannon Doak
42:09down below us
42:16well all week
42:17we've been talking
42:18about Haiti
42:19not just because
42:20the game's coming up
42:20next weekend
42:22but because of
42:23what they've been
42:24doing on the pitch
42:25they hammered
42:26New Zealand
42:27they were leading
42:28Peru all the way
42:29through to the
42:2980th minute last
42:30night in Florida
42:32but this is going to
42:33sharpen Haitian
42:34minds and it might
42:35sharpen Moroccan
42:36and Brazilian
42:37minds as well
42:38yeah I think that
42:39without doubt it will
42:40because I mean
42:42there's still
42:43time to go in the
42:44game and there'll
42:44be a lot of changes
42:45which could disrupt
42:46the rhythm of the
42:47team and the
42:48performance just due
42:49to the fact that
42:50lots of changes
42:50are made
42:53but yes you have
42:54to take note
42:55you're always looking
42:56at the opposition
42:57I think it's been a
42:57good performance as
42:58well as being three
42:59goals to the good
43:01and they look like
43:02a group of players
43:03that are hungry to go
43:04and get more goals
43:05in the game
43:06so yeah you have to
43:07take note
43:07and that's a little
43:08warning but
43:09it's all about
43:11Scotland and what
43:12Scotland can do
43:13in preparation for that
43:14opening game
43:14against Haiti
43:21yeah it looked like
43:25a foul on
43:25Scotland and it was
43:28yeah he does well
43:29he gives the ball away
43:30Lawrence Shantland
43:31but the reaction's
43:32excellent to go and
43:33win it back
43:33just gets his toe in
43:35he's brought down
43:57it's been tough
43:58for Ben Gannon
43:59since that night
44:00against Denmark
44:03the injury
44:05obviously
44:06meant he missed
44:07most of the rest
44:08of the season
44:11he's not started
44:12a club game
44:13since his loan
44:13spell at Middlesbrough
44:14when he was there
44:15on loan from Liverpool
44:17ahead of his move
44:18to Bournemouth
44:20last summer
44:22and he's a player
44:23that I think
44:25he would say himself
44:26he would admit himself
44:27he needs to play
44:28yeah
44:29you know all players
44:30want to play
44:30but I think when you
44:31look at
44:31the type of player
44:33he is to fine tune
44:34that final ball
44:35Hickey
44:39plenty of air in that
44:40yeah
44:40I'm just on Gannon
44:41to fine tune
44:42that final ball
44:43the more you play
44:44the better that becomes
44:45but I have to say
44:45I think that his
44:47decision making
44:47his final ball
44:48has been really good
44:49this afternoon
44:50this evening
44:51and I think the type
44:52of game is suiting him
44:53because he's not
44:54constantly getting the
44:55ball run down his throat
44:56to go and drive
44:57and make things happen
44:58he's using them
45:00at the right times
45:02and the more he plays
45:03the more he plays
45:04he would expect
45:04the better he'll become
45:12problem in time for
45:14Gabriel Villamil
45:28some of the scotland players
45:30taking on some
45:31advice down below us
45:33from Stephen Naismith
45:35Steve Clarke standing
45:36in the centre of his
45:38technical area
45:40but those scotland fans
45:41who've come here
45:41there'll be many expats
45:43clearly
45:44are inside the stadium
45:45this evening
45:47and absolutely
45:47love what they have
45:49been watching
45:50without doubt
45:51it's been a really
45:53strong performance
45:54and you know
45:55I would expect
45:56the levels
45:57to stay the same
45:59you'll get
46:00changes either
46:01at half time
46:02through the second half
46:04that players
46:05that want to come on
46:05and impress
46:06and try and
46:07get on the score sheet
46:08themselves
46:09so it bodes well
46:10and it's nice
46:11to feel the positivity
46:12of a scotland performance
46:14leading into a major tournament
46:20yeah we remember
46:21before they went
46:22to Germany
46:24there was the
46:25draw the Finland
46:27which looked like
46:28was Craig Gordon's
46:28swan song
46:29and a fairly uninspiring
46:312-0 win over
46:32Gibraltar and Portugal
46:33this has been much
46:34more like it
46:35and that's brilliant
46:36from Ganondorf
46:38denied by Viscara
46:41lovely little shimmy
46:43from the winger
46:44to set up the shot
46:47he's unfortunate
46:48because it's gone
46:49right down the throat
46:49nah he's caught it well
46:51Lauren Shantland again
46:52with the flick on
46:53creates a problem
46:56nice interchange there
46:57Robertson and Christie
46:58draws a Scotland corner
47:03into the final 5 minutes
47:05of the first half
47:08they don't show
47:09any signs of slowing down
47:11Scotland are hungry
47:12to get more goals
47:14they look like
47:15they're enjoying
47:15themselves
47:16and rightly so
47:20Lewis Ferguson
47:23his 24th cap
47:25Adams
47:25and Robertson
47:30there's a big chance
47:31for number 4
47:33what a delivery
47:34it is
47:34from Ferguson
47:35great little
47:36flick on
47:37from Che Adams
47:37at the near post
47:41he just missed
47:41and he just missed
47:42times of jump
47:42and it was maybe
47:43a little bit too high
47:44for him
47:44anyway
47:55the cynics will say
47:56this has been a dreadful
47:57Bolivian performance
47:58but focusing on the
47:59positives
48:00it's been outstanding
48:01from Scotland
48:02yeah I mean
48:05I'm here to focus
48:06on how Scotland
48:06are doing
48:07and they're doing
48:07very well
48:08I have to say
48:09that some of the
48:10attacking plays
48:11have been excellent
48:11to link up
48:12Robertson and Christie
48:13down the left
48:13Ganondorf
48:14has looked bright
48:15and obviously
48:16you've got Shanklin
48:17and Adams
48:17both on the score sheet
48:19and look pretty solid
48:21defensively
48:21so
48:23yeah
48:23the cynics can say
48:24what they want
48:24this has been a good
48:25performance with Scotland
48:32Miguelito
48:37back to their full
48:38compliment
48:38now Villamil
48:39has returned
48:40to the fray
48:41and he's on the ball
48:42now
48:44Fernandes
48:47well the ref is going
48:48to pull the whistle
48:49it's an advantage
48:49for Bolivia
48:50because they haven't
48:50taken
48:51but
48:52the ref
48:52bringing it back
48:53by the looks of it
48:55to see
48:55if a player
48:56gets a shot away
48:57when an advantage
48:58has been given
48:59surely that's the advantage
49:01yeah I mean
49:01it felt like
49:03he had the advantage
49:03he's decided to take
49:05the shot on
49:05the angle's not great
49:06and the execution
49:07is poor
49:08he had an opportunity
49:09to cross it
49:10free
49:10he was in time
49:11and space
49:12to cross it
49:13yeah I think
49:14that was
49:14correct initially
49:15from the referee
49:16to let play go on
49:18surprise he's
49:19brought it back
49:20I have to say
49:27well what a week
49:28it's going to be
49:29what a few weeks
49:30it's going to be
49:31whether you're a
49:32Scotland supporter
49:34out in the States
49:35at the games
49:35and enjoying the
49:37party atmosphere
49:38that there will be
49:39in Boston
49:40and in Miami
49:41or you're back home
49:42you're watching games
49:43down the bar
49:45in the pub
49:46or at a fan zone
49:48at a big event
49:50it's been 28 years
49:51and everyone's
49:52just going to have
49:52to make the absolute
49:53most of it
49:54because you don't know
49:54when it's going to
49:55come around again
49:56absolutely
49:57and let's hope
49:57the players do as well
49:59I've just seen that
50:00back there
50:00I didn't think
50:01it was a foul
50:04free kick will be
50:05taken by Tome
50:12it's a congested
50:14area between
50:15the penalty spot
50:16at the six yard line
50:17and Galito hits it
50:20and all comes to nothing
50:23I guess justice
50:24was done there
50:26yeah but it's
50:27I mean good situations
50:28to be in
50:28where you haven't
50:29to go and defend
50:29these set plays
50:30it is all about
50:32preparation
50:33as much as you
50:34don't really want
50:35to be facing them
50:35normally
50:36it keeps you sharp
50:38dealt with once again
50:59it's got the most
51:00recent game against
51:01South American
51:01opposition was against
51:02the Peruvians
51:052018
51:06James Clark
51:07of the coaching
51:08set up for that one
51:09there's a
51:09an end of season
51:11double header
51:11and another one of those
51:12where you're warming
51:13other sides up
51:13that was for the
51:152018 World Cup
51:18lost in the Azteca as well
51:21there's Ganondol in Scotland
51:22looking for number four
51:24before the break
51:24Adams to his left
51:26he's on to it
51:27Shea Adams
51:28second chance
51:30is four
51:41an absolutely remarkable
51:43first half here in New Jersey
51:47for the Scotland team
51:51a week before the
51:53greatest show on earth
51:55they're putting on a show
51:57what is happening here
51:59honestly
51:59Ben Ganondol
52:00terrific drive and run
52:02using his speed
52:03not only that
52:04that little delay
52:05sets Shea Adams away
52:06he probably
52:08takes a heavier first touch
52:10than he'd like
52:10when he cuts inside
52:11but he doesn't give it up
52:12and that's a wonderful finish
52:14but it's all about the
52:15the power
52:15the drive and run
52:16from Ganondol
52:17a lovely finish
52:19from Shea Adams
52:19and
52:21Scotland 4-0 up
52:22before half time
52:26Scotland have struggled
52:27to be 4-0 up
52:28at half time
52:29against
52:29the likes of
52:30the Faroes
52:31and San Marino
52:35footballing minnows
52:37yeah I mean
52:37it's quite amazing
52:39we keep saying
52:40how good the performance
52:41is and
52:41often you create chances
52:43and you're not taking them
52:44but
52:44they've been clinical
52:45they have been clinical
52:46but really threatening
52:49and the variety
52:50and the chances created
52:51has been very impressive
52:53also
53:01genuinely Steve Clark
53:02could not have wished
53:03for this to go any better
53:04than it has
53:09and two goals
53:10for Shea Adams
53:10will do
53:11his
53:12confidence
53:13no harm
53:13at all
53:16there have been
53:17people questioning
53:18his inclusion
53:19in the team
53:20when he started
53:47he started
53:52And the Bolivians absolutely stunned and looking bereft of ideas and truth.
54:03One back by Ferguson.
54:16Well you would imagine given the score line now,
54:18and Clark will be looking to get another couple from the bench on for the start of the second half.
54:23I think that would have been the plan anyway.
54:25I think it would have been, you know, players to play first half and the subs to come on for
54:30the second half
54:31to make sure they're, you know, fit and ready.
54:34So I don't think there will be any reaction to the score line.
54:37Possibly, you know, protect one or two that he maybe didn't plan for,
54:42but I think substitutions would have been planned anyway.
54:47What a game to come on to.
54:49Yeah.
54:49They better switch though.
54:52And there's...
54:54Cost in by Fernandes and probably their best ball in this first half, which is just about finished.
55:00We've played the three minutes that were added on.
55:04It's another example.
55:05It's Ryan Christie getting back.
55:07When you play that 4-4-2, everybody focus on the strikers,
55:09but the wide men have got such a job to do,
55:11and defensively as well as attacking.
55:13And I think Ganondolk and Christie have done that brilliantly.
55:19Just looking to see this corner out.
55:21Miguelito is over it.
55:24He's beating everyone.
55:27The referee blows for half time.
55:33And Scotland are making a bit of a statement here.
55:37And suddenly, some supporters who were rightly concerned about that Haiti game coming up next week,
55:45which is so crucial to their hopes of getting out of the group for the first time in their history,
55:51are now wondering just what kind of impact Scotland can make on this tournament.
55:56An astonishing half-time scoreline here.
56:01Shanklin with the opening goal.
56:03McTominay and a double from Adams.
56:06Have given them a dream scoreline at the interval.
56:11Here in Harrison.
56:15As they prepare to return to the World Cup Finals.
56:19And it's the best possible way of going about the preparations,
56:23because at half-time in New Jersey, it's Bolivia 0, Scotland 4.
