01:08It's so easy. Just call 1-888-SHOWTIME. It's showtime!
01:29If you look at his undefeated record, his IVF junior welterweight title, and his seemingly unlimited potential, you would think
01:39he's super.
01:43But if you look at his inconsistent performances, and his lack of a signature fight, you might wonder if his
01:51talent is superficial.
01:54So what kind of super is Zab Super Judah? You'll be the judge, next on Showtime Championship Boxing.
02:06Bye-bye.
02:50This evening we complete another
02:52in a series of back to back
02:54Saturday nights of Showtime
02:55Championship Boxing we make
02:57our return to the familiar
02:58grounds known as Mohegan Sun
03:00here in Uncasville Connecticut.
03:02It is a special night of the
03:03fights aside from seeing one of
03:05today's brightest stars in
03:07action tonight's card will
03:08feature boxing stars of
03:10tomorrow in our main event
03:13flashy southpaw Zapp Judah will
03:15put his IBF junior welterweight
03:17title on the line against
03:18veteran Reggie Showtime Green.
03:21Tonight's telecast will also
03:23include the promising 17 year
03:25old Juan Diaz who's unbeaten in
03:26his first six pro fights.
03:29Plus you'll see the professional
03:30debuts of Olympians Rocky Juarez and
03:33Francisco Bojato we're under the
03:37big top the fully enclosed
03:39temperature controlled Uncas
03:40Pavilion capacity about three
03:42thousand the fans assembling
03:43tonight for a look at one of
03:44boxing's current young standouts
03:46and for a glimpse into the
03:47future with dreams of Olympic
03:49gold behind them.
03:50Our other headliners now want
03:52to win the championship but Zapp
03:52Judah already has a prestigious
03:55world championship.
04:01Hello again everybody Steve
04:02Albert ringside from Mohegan Sun
04:04undefeated Zapp Judah tonight's
04:06marquee attraction and a
04:07potential superstar but will also
04:09showcase talented members of the
04:11Olympic class of 2000 even though
04:12the most recent crop of Olympians
04:14failed to bring home the gold the
04:16group from Sydney could be right up
04:18there with the fighters from
04:19Barcelona and Atlanta in terms of
04:21skill as thoughts of gold now
04:23turn to green as in money.
04:25While Zapp Judah's dreams of
04:26Olympic glory were dashed with a
04:28crushing loss at the Olympic
04:29trials he's put it behind him and
04:31gone on to win a cherished world
04:33title.
04:33Tonight he can't look past a gritty
04:36Reggie Green in hopes of a big
04:37bucks unification showdown with
04:39either Kosciuszew or Shambay
04:41Mitchell.
04:42While Judah never had that Olympic
04:43experience he did have an
04:45outstanding amateur career.
04:47Undoubtedly he can relate to the
04:48anxiety and excitement that the
04:50former Olympians must be
04:52experiencing just about now.
04:54With that let me bring on my
04:55ringside partner former world
04:57champion Bobby Chez and Bobby as
04:59you know Judah coming off an
05:02uncharacteristically sluggish
05:02performance in his last fight a
05:04fight in which he should have
05:06been highly motivated.
05:07Now despite what he told us
05:08yesterday do you think that he
05:10not only has to win but win
05:12impressively which he didn't
05:13believe.
05:13Well Steve a win is a win whether
05:15it's by an inch or by a mile but
05:16certainly in the case of Zapp
05:18Judah an impressive win does
05:19different things.
05:20He gives him an added aura about
05:21invincibility.
05:22He's undefeated.
05:23He's a world champion.
05:24It adds to his price tag and his
05:25reputation.
05:26He wants the big fights against
05:27Kosciuszew and other big
05:29champions at big prices.
05:30He's got to look impressive
05:31every time out of the box.
05:32Can't be looking ahead past
05:34Reggie Green tonight.
05:34That's for sure.
05:35Also tonight Olympians Rocky
05:37Juarez and Francisco Bajardo make
05:39their professional debuts.
05:41The feeling is Juarez the silver
05:42medalist will flourish as a pro
05:44now that he's able to shed that
05:45headgear wear smaller gloves and
05:48have longer fights.
05:49At 17 Bajardo was the youngest
05:51member of Mexico's 2000 Olympic
05:53team and Bobby in your opinion
05:54are these the types of fighters
05:56who will make the smooth
05:57transition from amateur to pro.
05:59Steve these are exactly the type
06:00of fighters that will make that
06:01transition very smoothly for
06:02several different reasons.
06:04One they have a wealth of
06:05experience in the amateurs which
06:06gives them a little bit of an
06:07edge turning pro but they don't
06:09have the burnout factor.
06:10Too many amateur fights where
06:11the body won't hold up over long
06:12pro careers.
06:13Couple that with the fact that
06:14they spend a lot of time with
06:15some quality pros in the gym
06:16and have great management and
06:18promotion.
06:19People who have track records
06:19proven track records to guide
06:21those young fighters properly
06:22they add up to great careers
06:23and possible world titles.
06:25Bobby we look forward to seeing
06:26them later tonight.
06:27The other undercard bat will
06:29feature teenage sensation Juan
06:30Diaz off to a 6-0 start.
06:32And Bobby why at this tender young
06:35age is he already being
06:36considered a star in the making?
06:38Well Steve by the time he was
06:39just 16 years old he had already
06:40beaten several amateur world
06:42champions and world championship
06:43contenders in the amateurs.
06:45He's done everything that needed
06:46to be done.
06:46He was too young to go to the
06:47Olympics so he decided to turn
06:49pro.
06:49He's 6-0 as a start but I'll tell
06:51you what he has shown maturity,
06:52patience, and the skills of a
06:54fighter beyond his years and if he
06:55stays like this he could wind up
06:57being one of the youngest world
06:58champions in history.
06:59On the subject of showing a lot
07:01of patience we had expected to see
07:03Olympian Jeff Lacey as well tonight
07:05but his fight fell through.
07:07For more on that let's get it over
07:08to our Tim Smith.
07:09Tim.
07:10Thanks Steve.
07:12Well if intimidation counts for
07:13anything Jeff Lacey just moved to
07:15the head of the class of the U.S.
07:16Olympic team for 2000.
07:19Jeff you go to the weigh-in you take
07:22your shirt off.
07:23The next thing we hear your opponent
07:25is at the front desk of the hotel
07:27checking the bus schedule trying to
07:29find a bus back to Cleveland.
07:30What's up with that?
07:31I don't know.
07:32I don't look pretty much like a ghost
07:33but I guess that's what he saw.
07:36He saw a ghost?
07:37I guess so.
07:38I don't know.
07:39I can't jump in his head and find
07:40out what it is that he saw but I wish
07:43I knew.
07:44How disappointed are you not to be
07:45able to make your debut tonight on
07:47national television in front of a nice
07:50crowd here at the Mohegan Sun and
07:51for your people back in St. Petersburg?
07:53I'm disappointed because I spent five
07:55weeks in Big Bear training hard for
07:57this.
07:59I was really liking to come out here
08:02and show the Mohegan fans out here to
08:04the Mohegan Casino these fans.
08:05It's a pack house tonight that what
08:08Jeff Lacey has in store especially the
08:09people back at home.
08:10So now it's back to work back to the
08:12gym to get ready.
08:13Do you have any idea when your next
08:14fight will be?
08:16They're trying to schedule a fight for
08:17me to fight on ESPN 2 February 2nd I
08:21believe maybe if we have an opponent
08:24there I will keep my shirt on this
08:25time.
08:27Okay Steve the lesson that this young
08:29man has learned don't take your shirt
08:31off at the weigh-in if you want to
08:32fight that night.
08:33All right Tim bringing new meaning to
08:35the expression keep your shirt on
08:37got to be very disappointing for
08:38Jeff Lacey.
08:39You know Steve not just for Jeff Lacey
08:41but for us as well after watching
08:42some of the tapes of him in amateur
08:44competition and hearing the
08:45incredible scouting reports I'm
08:47extremely disappointed here's a
08:48young man I was really looking
08:49forward to watching so was I so
08:51we'll get to see Jeff Lacey on
08:53another day.

10:40opponent big moment for this
10:50young man 168 amateur wins Bobby
10:56not your typical Mexican style
10:58face first fighter more of a
10:59stylist a boxer who relies on
11:02speed big things are expected
11:03from this guy well Steve that's
11:05correct the scouting report is
11:06that he's not just a tough guy
11:07who comes in face first just
11:08tries out bullion out manual
11:10machismo style he can box he can
11:12move he can be sharp hit and not

11:16got some butterflies flying around
11:18his stomach right now yeah I can
11:19guarantee you that he does he's
11:20just 17 years old this is an
11:22awful lot not only showtime with
11:24the crowd all the things are
11:25expected from him I'm sure he's
11:27think it's at least a little bit
11:29worse so that's Pachito
11:32Pajaro getting set for his first
11:34professional fight here's
11:38Dietrich Castor his opponent out
11:40of West Monroe Louisiana son of a
11:42high ranking officer at the
11:43Swanson Correctional Center in
11:47Monroe happens to be his mom
11:48Castor good athlete ran track in
11:51high school didn't show an
11:52interest in boxing until he was
11:5318 despite only 17 amateur bouts
11:55he went 14 and 3 he won the
11:57Louisiana State Amateur title in
11:59ninety nine he's 0 1 and 1 as a
12:03professional all right we're set
12:05now for the numbers as we show
12:07you the tail of the tape
12:10Pajaro has mentioned just 17
12:12years of age Castor is young as
12:14well just 21 Pajaro 5 6 and a
12:17half Castor a little taller they
12:19reach Pajaro 66 inches Castor a
12:22three inch advantage and at the
12:24weigh in they both came in at 1
12:2532 and a half standing eight
12:27count in effect same for the

12:29cannot be saved by the bell in
12:30any round if an accidental

16:40left hand very low
16:41hands up hands up and so very active
16:45Bojado looks like he's just waiting for
16:48his moment being very patient here
16:53Castor seems very quick and right now I
16:56think he's got the attention at the very
16:57least
16:57Bojado
17:02hands up
17:02when you're just starting out making the
17:05move from amateur to pro you're not
17:07only fighting the nerves but could
17:10there be a tendency Bobby to over
17:12react to switch up and fight a
17:14little too rough because now you're
17:15a pro
17:15well you know what sometimes they
17:17get tense sometimes they worry
17:18about not starting too fast because
17:20of that fourth round the fourth
17:21round comes a big factor to you
17:23pass it because you've only been
17:24three in the amateurs sometimes
17:25three two minute rounds three three
17:27minute rounds is different and
17:28four threes I guarantee you is a
17:29lot different
17:30minute gone by in this opening
17:32round zap Judah advised the
17:35Olympians to stick to their amateur
17:36style here in the beginning keep
17:39that speed going hit and not be
17:41hit Judah said one thing he's
17:43learned about boxing is that you
17:45can't just be a professional you
17:46have to become a professional you
17:48grow into it that comes with time
17:50and dedication Judah knows what
17:53he's talking about he was one
17:54hundred and ten and five as an
17:55amateur but was beaten in the
17:57nineteen ninety six U.S.
17:58Olympic trials and off to a great
18:00start as a pro right now a lot of
18:05defense here by both fighters no
18:07real connecting punches a lot of
18:09grazing blows black blows nobody
18:12making a statement just yet the
18:17hot or showing his quickness with
18:18that left right combination but his
18:22opponent the deeper cast or able
18:24to elude nice body punches by
18:28Bojato very effective heavy left to
18:32the stomach by Bojato auto five
18:36six and a half one thirty two and
18:38a half managed by Mike Tyson's
18:41manager Shelley Finkel his
18:46trainer is Alfonso Marquez the
18:48venerable Joe Sousa is the second
18:51assistant Joe Hernandez the cut man
18:54for an amateur just coming out of
18:55the ranks where aggressiveness by
18:57itself is points and punches or
18:59points Ohio showing a lot of
19:01patience a lot of poise taking his
19:02time and picking spots less than
19:05thirty seconds of the opening
19:07round Derrick Castor all one and
19:10one as a pro just twenty one five
19:14seven one thirty two and a half
19:17turn pro in pay of 2000 and there
19:20he goes down to the canvas first
19:22knockdown from Bohato nicely left
19:24hook right hand but that's the
19:26red on the button with his pants
19:28seven not take the car to the hot
19:31off to a very fast start a knock
19:34down in the first round of his pro
19:43debut
19:43hey you off battle listen to me
19:46hey hey keep that dog gone left
19:50hand up all right he's trying to
19:51measure you he's going to try to
19:52catch you with that right hand and
19:54left hook I was just off balance
19:55and when he coming with you can't
19:56jump in all right I want you using
19:58that jab not with that right hand
20:00but after you throw your punches
20:01you throw your combinations and
20:02slide to the side all right angle
20:04give an angle okay watch Bohato
20:08come in with a nice left hook
20:09right hand there's a straight right
20:12hand there's the hook right hand
20:13he just leaps in with it throws a
20:16little shoulder feint comes right
20:17through watch it again there's the
20:21lead right he steps to him hook
20:23right hand on the top of the head
20:25and it's just straight power shot
20:26just pushes him to the canvas and
20:28he had everything behind that
20:30punch that was a spiraling right
20:32that sent Castor to the deck
20:33left hand of this box a lot of
20:36power behind that right hand
20:38after the hook so Bohato now
20:41enters round two against Castor
20:43coming off the knockdown see if
20:48you watch Castor he jabs a very
20:50quick jab but he's jabbing with
20:52backward in mind jabs and steps
20:53back immediately never steps
20:54forward double jabs his body
20:56behind it and it's going to be
20:58less effective he needs to keep
20:59behind a wall from not let him
21:00set he's the puncher cast or not
21:03as bad as his record indicates but
21:05he is really stepping up in terms
21:07of quality of opposition here
21:08tonight against the Olympian from
21:10Mexico he did improve in his last
21:14fight talking about the man of the
21:15black trunks cast score scored a
21:18first round knockdown but he felt
21:20he got robbed and won the last two
21:21rounds the fight was in his
21:23opponent's hometown and he had a
21:25four round draw and we know how
21:27boxing politics can affect people
21:29especially the fighter oh good left
21:31hand there to the jaw by Bahato
21:34well that'll get your attention too
21:38Bahato looking very impressive
21:41Bahato's picking off punches very
21:42nice with his hands you see he
21:43doesn't use waste a lot of movement
21:45doesn't use a lot of movement
21:46picks him off fires back quick
21:48hands by Bahato and also
21:51defensively able to get away from
21:53those punches by Kastor he's
21:58backing Kastor up who is feeling
21:59the power of Bahato good left hand
22:03a left hook right to the chin and
22:06a flurry here by Bahato it was like
22:09a double left hook but there was a
22:10slight hesitation and there's a big
22:12left hook down goes Kastor for the
22:14second time the fight is over
22:16what a mirage by the Mexican
22:18Olympian victorious in his
22:20throw debut here in round two
22:22you showed me something there
22:23Steve he is a terrific finisher
22:24he kept his combination short
22:26crisp and he got accurate and he
22:29got right to the point wasted
22:30almost nothing very economical
22:33and he gets the job done very
22:37quickly round two and now the
22:38doctor over there checking the
22:40eyes of Dietrich Kastor
22:43right in my eyes let's hope he is
22:46okay he felt the wrath of
22:49Panchito Bahato there the
22:52celebration turn around the other
22:53side of the ring we certainly
22:55lived up to the scouting report
22:57we saw a nice shouting report
22:58patience good combinations good
23:00power both hands smart doesn't
23:02get hit much he had it all no
23:05but he put Kastor down twice one at
23:09the end of the first round one
23:10near the beginning of the second
23:12round and then the referee John
23:13Callis stepped in stopped the
23:14fight and Mr. Bojado with reason
23:17to smile as he chalks up a big W in
23:22his pro debut you know Steven he has
23:24the perfect style right now for the
23:25pros he's patient he doesn't waste
23:27much in the way of punches goes to
23:28the body where he's supposed to
23:29come back to the head finishes well
23:32complete package in date from day
23:34one and he's only seventeen Bobby
23:37I'm jealous you have ties over the
23:41net right there he is Francisco
23:45Panchito Bahato thank you so time
23:48many events Kelly Gary Sonny passing
23:52on his thank yous to everybody as
23:54you can hear he goes to one at all
24:02meanwhile Dietrich Kastor now all
24:04two and one in his three
24:06professional fights he really
24:08took a beating over the course
24:10of two rounds at the hands of
24:12this young man Francisco Bahar
24:23I'm gonna take a look how it
24:24started while coming in to see
24:26sets up with a nice left hook
24:27there it is hesitates comes back
24:29in with a one-two now he's trying
24:31to work that left hook in to his
24:33credit Kastor trying to duck it
24:34out of the way but he is hurt his
24:36legs are not under him the ropes
24:38are holding him up and Kastor's
24:39going to work you see me doesn't
24:41neglect the body throws nice head
24:42shots great combination up top it's
24:44just too much for Kastor just
24:46the punches were landing cleanly
24:48far too much they were to see
24:50that left hook again another
24:51angle that's the one that gets
24:53right around the gloves follows
24:54it back again the killer instinct
24:56all over him immediately giving
24:58him no room to breathe no room
24:59to recuperate steps around lead
25:02right hands mixes it up and
25:04he'll take left hook again
25:05that's the big left hook that
25:06really hurt him and that
25:07combination was more of a
25:08finisher than anything else
25:10Bahato showing that he knows
25:11how to complete the job one
25:14more time we'll take a look
25:16watch that left hook right
25:17around the glove he never sees
25:18it goes back he's hurt he puts
25:21his hands up but he never gets
25:22out of the way and Kastor
25:22doesn't to me well how doesn't
25:24let him get away he corners him
25:26steps around him on the ring
25:27and again Kastor never throws a
25:29punch back so he gives a lot
25:30of nothing to worry about and
25:32Bahato destroyed and a
25:38spectacular start for the
25:39Mexican Olympian Ponchito Bahato
25:42here we go from overhead you see
25:44the finishing touches being
25:45applied to his opponent Dietrich
25:48Kastor Francisco Pancito Bahato
25:52born in Guadalajara raised in
25:54Los Angeles California all over
25:57Kastor and that was it up we go
26:02to Jimmy Lennon Jr. for the
26:04official numbers ladies and
26:08gentlemen we have the time of
26:09one minute thirty eight seconds
26:11in round number two he's the
26:13winner by way of knockout in his
26:16professional debut Francisco
26:19Panchito Bahato Francisco
26:29Panchito Bahato victorious in his
26:32professional debut and he did it
26:36in very impressive fashion here at
26:38Mohegan Sun in Uncasville
26:40Connecticut a night he'll never
26:41forget coming up next it's U.S.

28:11surprised because I thought I was
28:12gonna feel a little more nervous
28:14butterflies in my stomach but I was
28:16relaxed and I and I was just
28:17thinking positive what were you
28:19thinking after you got the first
28:20knockdown well I just keep listening
28:24to my corner that to stay relaxed
28:26and just keep going with the
28:28combinations how did you take a
28:31look at the monitor here and and
28:34describe some of what's going on
28:35here well right there I hit him
28:36with a with a right hand first and
28:38came back with a with a hook I
28:40felt great when I see him go down
28:41so I kind of got expired a little
28:44little excited there's like and
28:46this is the second knockdown tell
28:47us a little bit why what's going
28:48on here well right there I fixed
28:50them with a right hand came back
28:51with a hook not just following them
28:53right there with the combinations I
28:55got a little wild which I have to
28:57overcome that and I got to relax
28:58and just throw regular plant
29:00punches natural well I got to tell

30:00to throw a nice right hand very
30:00simple straight right to the body
30:02but young guys don't always
30:03remember to do these simple
30:04things it looks like a small
30:06thing but it's a big thing right
30:07here as we roll the tape
30:08beautiful right hand right to the
30:10body doesn't neglect the body
